can i just take a moment to talk about ~race things~
like i’m half indian but never really saw my indian family much when i was growing up, my dad has a digestive condition so literally can’t eat curry lol so like a lot of indian food wasn’t really done at home, my indian family are catholic bc #colonialism so i never got the religious angle either, and since the age of 12 i’ve grown up in a very white middle class environment, so i’ve not really had the cultural upbringing that i would’ve wanted. and now that i’m an adult i’m trying to learn more about food and traditions and everything bc i don’t want it to just die for the sake of my dad marrying a white woman, don’t get me wrong my mum is great but like i wanna keep that culture alive for myself and maybe one day my kids.
and it’s been kind of difficult like reconciling the fact that i am mixed race with the very culturally white upbringing that i’ve had. i’ve very often felt “not indian enough” to do stuff like idk wear a saree or talk a lot about indian culture bc i’ve not had the experience growing up that 100% ethnically indian (especially non-christian) people have had in this country. but like at the end of the day. i am half indian. and i am allowed to access my own heritage and my own culture.
it’s taken me a long time to realise that i am well within my rights to celebrate that heritage, particularly bc i’m pretty white-passing and it’s rare that i’m treated like anything other than a white girl (in fact i’ve quite often had people tell me they assumed i’m white and wouldn’t have known otherwise if i hadn’t said anything). quite often i’ve been in situations with white people who’ve acted like i’m making a big deal out of very little when I talk about race stuff because they just see me as another white girl and i’m like okay i may look like a white girl but i’m not and being white passing doesn’t mean i’m not allowed to acknowledge that i’m not actually white.
it’s been really refreshing for me to date a boy who has been super supportive of me trying to unpack all of this. i had a conversation with him last night about wanting to wear a lehenga to his sister’s wedding and being worried that i’m ~not brown enough~ and i’ll look like i’m attention seeking or even worse it seeming like cultural appropriation and he was like but it literally is your culture. just because you haven’t always been able to participate in it doesn’t mean it’s not your culture. and i feel like i really needed to be told that. and then i bought the lehenga i wanted and he was like good for you you’re gonna look beautiful and i was like !!!!
idk where i’m going with this post but yeah. maybe just like a shoutout to other mixed race or biracial people who feel like they’ve had too “white” an upbringing to participate in their own non-white culture. we are valid 💖

Happy Diwali 2022: Short, Motivational, Emoji, Funny Captions With Images
Diwali is a time of lights and we spend the occasion decorating our homes with lamps and lights. You could start getting your house ready for festivities by tidying up or making rangoli paste. Children enjoy setting off fireworks. Many people use Diwali for both - at home to celebrate the "festival of lights" and as their financial new year. The festival is celebrated in many places by decoration, exchanging gifts, and worshipping various deities. One such goddess is Lakshmi, who is worshipped in many homes and businesses.
