You were at Dylan’s show? How was it?

It was a good show - it lasted only 1h10 minutes which felt short. The venue was very nice, good sound and the lights production was really cool. The crowd was good, mostly young women but some couples and some parents (and a random middle-aged guy who came solo who was in front of me).

She was really excited to play and she has a lot of energy on stage. There's only a bassist and a drummer (and her on the guitar sometimes) - so she 's using backing tracks for some of the songs (the band doesn't do back vocals). On the first song it felt like the backing track was over taking her mic and I was like are you kidding? can she not sing?! but it was adjusted later (and maybe she was a bit more stressed on the first song).

She did a brand new song, and like her latest single (The Alibi) it's way more pop. Not guitar-driven at all. It was... different. So it's interesting to see if she's going the pop route (pulling a Harry as I called it!). The Alibi live was really good tho, it's catchy. The rest was pretty rock and banging.

She did a cover of Out of the Woods by TS with just her on the guitar and imo it was awful. Like I think people enjoyed it since they like to OG version but it was just... missing something? Also to me it's really weird to be covering TS when she's touring herself at the moment. The other cover was Unholy - but rock - and at the beginning I was very sceptical but it ended up being really good.

She was quite chatty but sometimes I didn't get what she was saying. In terms of stage presence, she's really good because you couldn't tell she was nervous (I think it was her biggest venue ever). It did feel a bit like a performance at times - and reminded me of Harry's first tour (and the drapping in pride flag + her HS song added to that). But then I'm thinking - it is a performance so maybe I should give her some slack (it's just the whole rock aesthetics/ persona from her IG is annoying me so much).

All in all, very happy I went to see her (even if it took me 90 minutes to go back home cuz apparently I can't take the bus in London lol). I would see her again when she has new material and/or in a bigger venue. This morning I had a song stuck in my head so I listened to her live album again. But in the future I wonder if in the middle of the day I'll be like hey I feel like listening to Dylan? Her songs are quite catchy from the melody but I find the lyrics a bit simple/ not memorable (or too easy).

I went to discover her live and have a good time and I did get that. I also was a bit 'analytical' with the show - and I find myself doing that most of the time now that I know more about touring.

As I posted, it also makes me miss Louis and AM gigs because I realize they are truly one of a kind. Louies are SO loud we never realize when we're at the show, but yeah you don't get that level of screams at other shows.

So if you have the chance to see her in the future, def do it's the tickets are affordable and you wanna have a good rock night out!

the other day you, me and a couple other anons were talking about hybe's strategy for katseye and how they don't really know 1) what western audiences want and 2) what aspects of kpop that western audiences do actually like, and i feel like gnarly encapsulates that perfectly. i said before that western pop stans don't really like cute and want cunty hot girl music instead and this is that ig so yay well done hybe (tho i do have thoughts bcs one member is still a minor but i digress). however, western pop stans also don't like experimental kpop at all and that's exactly what this song is. gnarly is the most kpop song they could have ever given katseye, even more than touch was. i don't understand this choice at all. what were they thinking?

actually i think both gnarly and touch were made with the goal of going viral on tiktok — touch is repetitive enough to be catchy which makes it a great choice for going viral, whereas gnarly as a lot of one liners (“making beats for a boring dumb bitch” whatever that means) which the producers/writers are very obviously hoping will go viral on sns. there’s nothing wrong with wanting to go viral per se, but making music with that goal in mind doesn’t necessarily mean that the music cannot be GOOD ???? actually…. dare i say that it’s easier for songs to go viral when they are good ?

so the thing is i didn’t have high hopes for this, bc i hated sweetener and people were saying this was like a part 2. and shitting on positions, my favorite ari album, to compare this one. so i’m like i’m gonna hate this. but i am actually so excited bc i like it. i finally have new music to be obsessed w rather than relistening to the same songs over and over.

YASSSSSSS. again we know i love a 90s vibe. the slowdown right before the chorus is insaane. and the choral style harmonies on the “is” of the boy is mine scratches something in my brain as well as the “gotta be a reason why” robotic voice thing. this is so catchy. this is totally a fantasize vibe. so good. 10/10

she also loves 'the man' and she also sings the bridge of 'death by a thousand cuts' EVERYDAY.

kyouka will also make her own covers of taylor's older songs,, she'll make a cover of 'sparks fly' that sounds edgier. it sounds amazing 😌

she'll lie on her bed, and probably cry to 'superstar' thinking how sweet it would be if someone wrote a song about her like that :((

folklore and evermore aren't her favorites, but she adores the writing so much that it influenced hers.

28 Reasons - EP review

Reviewing 28 Reasons the title track:

Music production analysis:

Exactly what I thought we would be expecting, this song is perfect for Seulgi. The lyrics also perfectly seeds into the darkness of a human being. Although, my belief is different to what the video was about, it was a video in which it was answering one of the biggest questions in the philosophical world, this song was trying to just prove an explanation to it. Giving weird examples of "I kiss your brother, I steal that heart, you can't even feel the poison" shows that I may have been the perpetrator for kissing him, but deep inside him he has a heart in which is willing to give to evil because he can't feel it, he might be evil, and trying to not become tempted towards evil. Another part is the bridge, where it says "You're in danger, but it's okay, you're grown up", how we are growing up and only then we might realise if we are truly pure evil or pure goodness. The lyrics was a beautiful argument, going from the pov of evil to the pov of good. The instrumental, the whistle that was added made the song 20000x better, the bridge made me realise how much this instrumental sounds like something out of a movie and with that I am going to move on the the music video production.

Music video production:

I mean I didn't expect anything less, the music video was so beautiful to look at, it was almost like watching a movie, the two different people of Seulgi, itself makes it so much better. It's such a beautifully put music video. The angles were beautiful, the settings that Seulgi was put in, was really good, the wider perspective in the beginning, with the white, probably shows the good and how she is much lost in a wide grassland, it shows how small the goodness we have is compared to this world, how, the bad stares at the good, possibly leading to her death as she was levitating later on in the video, it was brilliantly made. To fit the music, the lyrics, it made it overall really easy to understand what was going on, I'm really grateful to the production team that made this debut even more excellent, I have no words except fantastic!

Dead Man Runnin':

Interesting production, I do have to say my favourite part is the bridge, it's godly. The chorus on where she keeps the note for longer, the bridge again, where there is a normal, quiet bridge and then repeats it again but with a more upbeat instrumental is just perfection. This song is truly really good, but not something I will listen to, if you like a song that is dark and that gradually gets louder I would recommend this.

Bad Boy, Sad Girl (ft. BE'O)

How do I explain my love for this song, I love it so much. It's so good. It's simple but cute to listen to every now and then. It's a lovesick song, but with feelings of anger yet is put in a such a calm, beautiful manner in which makes me vibe in my own bedroom, I cannot explain my love for this song, because it's too good. The chorus is so addicting and catchy to listen to. These days I have just been randomly saying to myself "eme hageganun bad boy bad boy bad boy gwe nisen chi hejonan sad girl sad girl sad girl, onel bam dom up alone" it's so good. Favourite from the album.

Anywhere But Home:

Yet another bop. This fits Seulgi's voice so well, probably the best out of any song here. The chorus is so cute and catchy, a simple yet beautiful song, I might listen to this while I'm going to get the train or something, again a song of love but it's a matter of is this serious love instead of hopeless love that we see in Bad Boy Sad Girl. Really good tho. I would recommend this to people that like Red Velvet b-sides ig, or jus something sweet to listen to, it sounds almost magical, this love in this song.

Los Angeles:

It sounds like a really good DJ remix, ngl. I'm not saying tha just because of the chorus, the whole song just sounds like it, with the background noises, even during the bloody bridge. So, if you like DJ remix songs like Alan Walker songs or David Guetta or Sophie Francis songs, I guess this song might be partially to you liking, it's just a has a bit of a darker concept.

Crown:

It's not an extraordinary song, it's a pretty decent song, but it's the perfect song to end the experience of the album. It really made me think and realise that I have to take all of this album in, and that's only when I realised how good and perfectly this album was made. It was beautiful for a debut. And I only wish Seulgi to go forward from here as a solo artist, this concept also really suits her and I hope she continues with it.

favorite thing about the group: their music and quality of performance. the fact that they are so genuine and lovable and monster performers, and it does not compute in my brain how we even deserve them. i think they are kpop's greatest hope. jongho's vocals. they make me laugh and they make me so happy, and sometimes i could cry because they love each other so much. and they obviously have one of the coolest concepts industry wide.

something i’d like to see from them: i want them to do a rock concept. like. a proper rock ep and not just a japanese title track. don't be shy.

I’ll listen to their top song on Spotify & tell you my thoughts: just watched the jungle mv cause it was the first one youtube told me to look at ... kind of a serve, no??? that topline is sooo catchy. and someone in this group is great at riffing and doing adlibs! ooh la la! singer number 2 (checked and he is seunghun apparently. GREAT singer) has a certain something, a je ne sais quoi ... he is simply giving us drama! j'adore! i think that rap was not needed and hyunsuk doesn't have to rap either, tho (he is a good singer!). this is what txt wishes they would sound like! the logo is a little too exo for me but imitation is the greatest form of flattery, as they say.

I’ll look up photos & tell you who stands out to me: i think seunghun? i can't look at pictures cause of my face blindness, but he struck me first. oh and he is the hot red haired guy, too!

I’ll tell you if I’d look into them more: very promising if they have more songs like jungle!
