Pyrrha, for the rewrite challenge

Alrighty, this one will be fun! Here's the thing about Pyrrha, I love her, but I don't know if I would write her to survive the fall of Beacon in a re-write. I go back and forth on it. So I'll write up to the fall of beacon, and then I'll write an 'if Pyrrha lived' thing too, because I just can't choose. XD

So, backstory for our girl. For a long time now, I've headcanoned that Pyrrha's parents were kind of like the Hunter version of pageant parents. I'd have it so Pyrrha's semblance was discovered when she was a toddler, and her parents started to make her do daily exercising, take daily fighting lessons, watch old Vytal tournaments, and started trying to build her up a brand to make her into 'the world's best huntress' as early as possible. (Also she'd be doing 'semblance training,' because in my rewrite, I would make semblances something that takes effort and training to use effectively.) I'd make it so that Pyrrha had a slow building resentment to her parents and the future they envisioned for her, but they put a lot of pressure on her to continue, insisting that she loves combat and has a duty to help people. So, Pyrrha would spend the first fifteen years of her life kind of just doing what her parents want, erring on the side of rich and feeling like she can't complain because of all the nice things she has, but also not happy. And she wouldn't have any friends, always too busy with training and brand deals and stuff to make or keep them (though I'd make it so that she and Neptune know each other from the combat school in Mistral. XD) Pyrrha's first big choice that's outside of what her parents want would be attending Beacon instead of Haven.

As for her time at Beacon, I would first introduce Pyrrha not right after Jaune comments about wanting to find a cute quirky girl, but as someone who seems eager to learn and inspired by Oz and Glynda at when they address the students. I would still make her partners with Jaune in their first challenge, but I wouldn't have Pyrrha teach Jaune how to fight alone. I'd make it so that Team JNPR and RWBY figure out pretty easily that Jaune (although less clueless than he is in canon) can't fight very well, and Jaune, Ren, Pyrrha, Ruby, and Yang keep covering for him and insist on helping him learn, and Weiss and Blake reluctantly get pulled into it. So it's actually a group thing that helps establish a bond between Team RWBY and Team JNPR, rather than like... A ship thing. I would also make taking Cardin down a peg into more of a victory for Pyrrha thing rather than making it all about Jaune while she secretly helps from the sidelines. I would have it so that even though Cardin still bullies Jaune, he also picks on and disrespects the other mains, and Pyrrha frequently rises to the challenge and 'embarrasses' him, and Cardin's misogynist vibes from canon turn into blatant misogyny, lol, and Pyrrha figures out a way to get him suspended or maybe even expelled eventually. I would also start setting up her and Weiss as having crushes on each other around the dance arc, having Pyrrha's crush on Jaune still present but not reciprocated, and having Pyrrha wind up with a romantic moment with Weiss rather than pairing Weiss off with Neptune for that. I'd make it so that Pyrrha's family also is trying to get her to do all this stuff she doesn't want to do, and she confides in Weiss about it and that kind of makes Weiss think a bit about her own family and what she wants.

Then we get to season three territory, and I would use the whole Maiden thing ("Guardian" in my rewrite) to give Pyrrha a stronger connection to Oz and Glynda specifically, and make Oz really contrast her parents by assuring Pyrrha that going through with being a Guardian is her choice and her choice alone, that she doesn't have to do it, and really is just guilt trip free. I'd have Pyrrha keep it from her team, and instead confine in Weiss what's going on without specifics (to get Team RWBY more involved in inner circle stuff earlier.) Then maybe Weiss would be the one who goes with Pyrrha when she goes to become a Guardian during the fall. If I had her die, those are the only changes I'd make, and I'd have her death impact a lot of people outside of Jaune, specifically Weiss. I'd also have a funeral for her that Ruby and JNR would attend at the end of V3 before they set off on their mission but Weiss, Yang, and Blake have to miss due to their respective issues, which is a wild missed opportunity in canon.

But if I did have Pyrrha live, I still wouldn't have her be involved in the main story for a while. I would have her lose to Cinder and nearly die (which is what Ruby sees and triggers her silver eyes still,) but be taken to Atlas by Ironwood to receive critical care. Ruby would tell people what she saw, leaving most people certain that she's dead and Jaune one of the only people who insists she might still be alive (I do like Jaune as a concept, I'm not gonna give him nothing. XD) Pyrrha would take a while to recover, but then start working to help Ironwood in Atlas, not attending school there and instead tutoring directly under Winter and the Ace Ops. She'd be more serious and subdued after her near death experience, and not very sure of herself, leading her to not take the offer of becoming the next Winter Guardian and instead having Penny slotted for that role. And Team RWBY and co would be shocked to meet her again when they were brought in on Ironwood's plans. Then I'd have her kind of act as a bit of a bridge between Team RWBY and Ironwood and the Ace Ops along with Penny. And I might have her be on Team RWBY's side while Penny is on Ironwood's side when they have their split (though of course I'd give that heavy editing and not make Ironwood a villain.) But also as for Pyrrha and Weiss... I'd have Weiss have moved on and now have stronger feelings for Yang, and Pyrrha would have to deal with and accept that. I might find someone else to put Pyrrha with eventually... But yeah, her and Weiss wouldn't end up together.

That's my plan, anyway.

Babe Across The Bar [LGBT+ Fem!Reader]

Warnings and Information: Feminine LGBT+ reader who expresses romantic/sexual attraction for more than just men. HOMOPHOBES BEGONE! List is primarily TBB centric, with a few bonus Clones. Minor suggestive content/dialogue. Pining. Gay Panic™. Mentions of alcohol. Sprinkling of Mando'a. Minor language. There's one line that could be interpreted as the reader experiencing being outed against her will, but kept vague in Tech's section of these snapshot scenarios. Hardcase's section deals with homophobes. Doesn’t follow the typical headcanons put into bullet points format because I ended up being a little too inspired for these! Some of these also deviated from the original prompt, but I feel they still relate enough to warrant inclusion.

Word-count: 4,694

Prompt: How would the boys (any boys, all the boys, whomever boys) react to their gal friend/crewmate and/or feminine S/O commenting on how stunning another girl is?

Hunter (Crewmate offering to be your wingman)

His eyes often flit to the door whenever someone walks in out of habit in large part to his senses. Keeping an eye on his surroundings. Things he was trained to do. So he notices the attractive woman who's just strolled in through the front entrance of 79's. Her clothing, her hair, her nails are all beautiful and immaculate.

And he notices how your breath hitches in your throat when you see her. But it's not insecurity or jealousy that made you do that. He's caught on for a while now that you "swing more than one way" as it were. But you've never been explicit in your words, or given him the big speech, so he's kept his mouth shut. If a member of his crew has something to tell him, he wants to give them a chance. You're no different.

But the comment under your breath is enough to finally ask. "Oh Maker, she's gotta be one of the angels from Iego…" You've just compared her to the Diathim of Millius Prime, practically swooning.

He takes a sip of his drink, eyes trained on the bombshell beauty you seem to be pining for. "You wanna go talk to her?"

You shake your head rapidly at him, trying not to choke on the drink in your hands with the fruit-flavored and colorful, jelly-like particulate. (It's new to the novelty drinks menu at 79's, so Hunter's not sure how it tastes, but you seem to like it.) "Oh stars no!" Did he misread the situation before him, were you looking at her with jealousy after all?

You sigh, putting your head in your hands with a groan. "She's so out of my league… She's probably only here for the troopers, anyways." you add solemnly, finally slumping forward in your seat at the bar top. Hunter sets down his glass and plants a steady hand on your shoulder in a gesture of comfort. He's still getting to know you as a regular part of his squad, in all fairness, but he should have trusted his instinct. You did seem to have a thing for women.

So maybe he could offer to help.

"Well… if you've had enough liquid courage and want to try your luck, I'll be your wingman, cyar'ika." he says, giving you a friendly pat after slowly sitting up. You'll think about it, you murmur.

You never end up making a move to so much as introduce yourself to her, much, much too nervous. At the end of the night, Hunter, who had tried to coax and encourage you several times throughout the night, just gives you another pat on the back. "Maybe next time, cyare. Don't feel too bad." As you walk back to the Marauder together, Hunter won't pressure you into it of course but he offers to help you practice for next time, if you think it'll cheer you up. As part of his squad, there'll always be the banter and the teasing of course, but Hunter will always offer to help.

Crosshair (Initially confused (+ insecure) partner)

Sight sharper than a knife, he was not quite afraid to check out the beautiful woman hanging off another Clone's elbow once upon a time. But now, with you, he keeps himself in check for the most part. You've briefly had that talk as a relatively new couple, that really it’s okay. It’s only natural to look. We’re all kriffing human, after all, aren’t we? The whole possessive ownership aspect is weird and icky to you, and you’re not gonna get yourself in a twist just because you catch him glancing at another woman. But he realizes there's probably something else you should have talked about together.

You like women too, and you’re looking at them just as much. It's hard to miss by the fifth instance of a remark like "Oh, she's cute!" and subsequent gestures with your glass to indicate who you're looking at. He's trying so hard not to feel like you’re testing him. Like you’re playing some little game by calling his loyalty into question, just how “obedient” he’ll really be. "Oh, yeah?" There's a strange twist of discomfort in his guts that he can't figure out. Is he jealous? Is he upset? (Should he order something to eat from the overpriced appetizer menu?)

"Yeah, I mean, look at her," you invite him with a flashy smile, "she's cute!"

He blinks at you with mild concern. He's heard alcohol brings out a different side in people, and he can't recall the full array of what you've had to drink. "Are you feeling alright?" He's unsure why he's so bothered. Is it because you're not paying attention to him?

"Better than alright, Cross. What's wro-? Oh. Oh shit didn't I tell you?" you set down your drink with a soft laugh and an apology, face looking flushed in a way that has nothing to do with the red and purple club lights. "I, uh, I play for more than one team, romantically at least. I'm sorry if I never told you, Crosshair."

He frowns for a split second, but he quickly answers that there's no need to apologize. He was a little confused at first sure (and perhaps slightly envious that you were commenting so openly on other people who weren't him), but he takes a look now at the woman you had indicated. She's not just cute, "Oh, the smoke show in the red dress?"

"Yeah. That's the one." you nod approvingly, the movement slow and deliberate. "She's a stunner, ain't she?" Certainly is, he agrees. (One of his brothers sighs playfully and makes the remark that nights out to 79's, or any bar for that matter, will get a lot more interesting from now on.)

The rest of the night carries on this way, you making the occasional glancing once-over of another trooper's arm-candy for the night, but most of your attention is given to Crosshair. You're with him for a reason. You know how to behave yourself, for kriff's sake. Any inkling of the horrible, hateful stereotypes of your orientation being true are so far from reality. You don't make passes at everyone you see. You keep your comments innocent and general if you decide to get a little gutsy and talk to one of them.

The redhead's got curls to die for, what kind of product is she using?

That is such a cute dress (with pockets!) that you have to know where she got it, because you swear you've seen fashion like that on Naboo.

Sorry if this is weird to ask but she's totally wearing a designer fragrance from one of the Core Worlds, right?

By the end of the night, Crosshair is reassured that you're not playing any kind of game with him, and perhaps the two of you will be having another talk to smooth out any wrinkles he has in his understanding of your orientation; but you promise him over and over you're with him for a reason in case any of your comments tonight made him feel any doubt. Just because you swing more than one way does not mean you're going to leave in the event you feel a stronger preference for women for a while. You love him.

And he wholly believes you.

Wrecker (Your enthusiastic hype-man)

"Oh shit." You hunker down in the booth seat, wide-eyed and breathless.

Wrecker reflexively glances down at the casual fatigues he wore to 79's tonight instead of the dark red and gray armor he typically wears. "Wha'? Did I get dip on myself again?" He doesn't see anything, so he takes a look at you, and that's when he notices you practically halfway under the table. "Did you drop something? I can lift the table so it's easier to-!"

"No!" you blurt out, sitting up. "That won't be necessary! Don't lift the table!"

You're starting to confuse him. "Then what's wrong?"

"She's here." A slightly shaky finger is pointed across the Clone bar, where seated at the counter, is the woman who's only ever shown interest in the other girls often brought here, or the dancers. You've had a not-so-silent crush on her for ages but didn't want to go and try anything. Until last week when she turned down what must've been the hundredth trooper. "Sorry fellas, afraid I'm not interested. But you'd all definitely be my type if I was into men." Oh Maker you'd been a hopeless mess.

The endless inner cycle of 'do I want to BE her, or do I want to be WITH her?' had finally sorted itself out in your head after that.

Wrecker knew from the jump that your romantic and sexual interests did not begin and end with men when he caught you staring at the same woman as him in a dirty jumpsuit on the airfield. And then literally caught you when you tripped over Tech's box of tools in your distraction. Ever since, he's done his best to help you make a move over someone you were clearly feeling something for.

"Go talk to her!" Wrecker encourages you, nudging your ribs with a careful elbow, "Say hi!"

"Maker, I can't, she's so pretty a-and like-? Oh Wrecker I can't even explain it… It's like I look at her and I just-"

Wrecker chuckles softly, leveling you with a look that tells you he knows exactly what you mean. "Have trouble thinkin' straight because she's gonna be paying attention and you don't want to kark it up?"

You bite your bottom lip so hard he's worried you'll make it bleed and get it all over your pretty little outfit. "Y-yes! I'm so nervous…"

He tells you not to worry about it too much, you're overthinking it! "Introduce yourself, mesh'la. You'll kick yourself for days if you don't." Okay, okay, he's right. Here goes nothing, you say. You slip out of the booth seat and sidle up to the drinks counter under the notion of ordering another drink first, but your crush takes notice of you in her proximity, and all she manages is a pleasant hello before you're a grinning mess. Wow, you had it bad for her. You stammer through your introduction, and give her your name as you say it was nice to meet her, and sure, you'd love to chat while the drink slinger whips something up!

In one of your many nervous glances around the club, he makes sure you get a clear view of his approving thumbs up. You're doing great! You end up talking to her for nearly forty-five minutes before she has to leave, she's got work in the morning, but she's scribbling something down on the bar top that Wrecker can't see.

"Hey, look at you! You did it, kid!" Wrecker cheers as you walk back over to the booth in a daze, your eyes focused on the slip of flimsiplast in your hands.

"Sh-she gave me her comm frequency… What does that mean?"

Wrecker can only laugh. Oh man, guess even you will have your help-how-do-I-function-around-a-girl-I've-never-even-met-a-girl moments he's seen many Clones have.

"I think that means she wants to keep talking to ya, ad'ika."

"O-oh." Is all you simply say. "Holy kriff I did it. I talked to her." you add after a long, long pause as Wrecker adds the number into your contacts for you, just in case the flimsi gets wet and you end up losing the number before the night is over.

"You sure did! I knew you could do it!"

Tech (Not-so-surprised friend)

To him, the fact that you have a romantic, perhaps even sexual interest in women is as obvious as the fact that the phenotypic eye color for (most) Clones is brown.

That's simply just how it is, in his world. But he has extensively researched how significant a coming out is for people such as yourself who do not fall under a heteronormative scope. He does not ask. He does not hint to you that he knows. And if he has let it slip, he is careful to express that it is not a big deal.

Not a big deal in the sense that he would end a friendship with you, or view you as if there was something "broken" and "defective" about you. That would be rather hypocritical of him after all. Well, sort of. He's more deviant than defective, because his genetic mutations do not hinder his ability to perform as a competent soldier of the GAR, and much like your inclinations, that is not something he has control over. He is simply a Clone from a "bad batch" much in the same way that you are a woman who fancies other women.

If you were to even come out to him, he has already carefully considered what he would say to you. He values your friendship and your company. He would very much like to maintain this by saying the right thing.

That he is glad that you trusted him enough to share such an important facet of yourself. That though, quite honestly, he has questions, he will save them for another time. That he understands you must be nervous, scared even, but he will never treat you any different than before you told him. And he most definitely will not tell you that he deduced this months ago.

But blast him, when you sent him a message asking to meet up at 79's a little earlier before the typical meetup, he was so certain that this was the conversation. So he had been mentally coaching himself on what to say, but more importantly what not to say so much, that when you slipped into the booth and said "I wanna tell you something, Tech…" it slipped his mouth faster than a Mon Calamari in water.

"That you like women?"

Oh shit. Oh shitshitshit. That was the thing he was supposed to refrain from saying or asking!

"Hah… Was I really that obvious? Did I worry for nothing?" You ask with a sincere laugh. You're not offended, or angry, or anything in the slightest. In fact, you look relieved. "...Tech?"

"I'm so sorry." is all he can offer. Oh Maker, he's so incredibly sorry, he tells you. He's robbed you of the chance to have a very significant conversation about what many deem unnatural, but in fact it's not; just before you joined him in their usual booth at 79's he was reading an admittedly rather heartwarming article about same-sex couples occuring in the galactic animal kingdom before you arrived, actually! (Everything from the little nuna to the mighty and magnificent purrgil!) But he's suspected this for some time and didn't think it was his place to ask. He's sorry he's ruined this chance for y-

You interrupt him with a laugh as you take one of his hands and squeeze it reassuringly. You just laugh and laugh, a grin from ear to ear the whole time before you settle yourself. "Oh, Tech… It's okay! I don't care if it didn't end up being surprising to you. I'm just so glad you understood that you shouldn't say something just because it was obvious in this case. Thank you. You're a good friend. Not everyone has been."

He's sorry to hear that, first and foremost. "But I am… glad that you trusted me enough to want to tell me."

Echo (Friend who's known for ages)

Echo carefully tests whatever fun and colorful drink you ordered for yourself as you give his a try. The two of you have been friends for ages, since before the Citadel. So that means Echo's known nearly as long as you've been friends that you swing more than one way. In fact, it was surprisingly comforting to know that had not changed since ending up in a Techno Union chamber.

"Hey, cyar'ika. Can I ask if you… Would it be weird to…" he sighed sharply and says he's just going to rip off the bacta patch and ask. "Do you still like women in addition to-?"

"Don't worry. That hasn't changed while you were gone." you told him, wrapping him up in a careful hug on one of those first nights since he'd been freed and given time to rest. To fill himself in on what happened in the galaxy around him since being plugged into an algorithm. "Welcome back, Echo."

He sets the drink down and shakes his head, and you give him back his beverage with a disgusted shudder. "Ugh. How can you stand that?" you both tease each other in tandem.

"I don't understand your taste in beverages, but at least I understand your taste in women." Echo rags on you with a mischievous smile, indicating someone across the club who's been staring at the drinks menu for the last three minutes. "How about her? Clone News Network suggests she's a little shy, perhaps, but I've heard you have a similar hobby. That's something, hm?"

You scoff, knowing well enough that the rumor mill requires taking things with a grain of salt. "Oh no, that's not enough to just-"

"She's also of 'multiple persuasions'." Echo assures you, quelling that particular anxiety. "Believe me, I asked around rather… extensively." he suggests.

"Oh, did you now?"

"Mhm."

"Are you trying to set me up on a d-?"

Echo shakes his head. "Mm-mn. Only asked if any of the boys had gotten a vibe, or heard anything. She's pretty forthcoming about it, turns out, so it's not like this was something I found by invading her privacy or betraying trusts." He's a skilled tactician, he reminds you gently, and he understands that asking around takes delicacy and knowing that you can't just ask any ol' brother.

He's nothing but mindful, as ever. "If you wanna do anything about it, that's up to you. You get more out of something when you want it, I wasn't going to set you up for something against your will."

You take a thoughtful swig of your beverage and set the glass down on the bar top once more. "If I did… would you help me plan on how to make a move? You know I'm a little hopeless with this stuff. Guys are one thing, but, I dunno, it's different when trying to flirt with another woman as a woman." you admit with a nervous laugh.

Of course he would, Echo promises sweetly, kindly as ever.

BONUS CLONES

Fives (Gives you advice)

Between reminding Hardcase not to go in rotary cannons blazing nearly every mission, and coming up with sufficient battle strategies as an Advanced Recon Commando, Fives is nearly convinced that he'll go gray by the time he's, what, technically fifteen? Nearly.

So in a way, he loves when you send him a message asking for his input on low-stakes stuff. No one's in any danger, he's not worried about a brother's safety, and he still gets to show off how smart he is.

>Oh Maker Fives help there's a total babe here tonight I think she's super cute but I don't know if it's safe to make a move or say anything what do I do

It's 21:00: are you at 79's?

> Yeah why

79's is a pretty accepting establishment, so see if anything she brought with her or is wearing has any kind of pin, or keychain or deliberate color scheme, Ka'ra. Take a deep breath.

He chuckles as he watches the bubbles start and stop at the bottom of the messaging feature repeatedly. Poor you. Must be so nervous. So worked up on your own anxiety and panic that you might benefit from a second, teasing reminder.

Ka'raaaa. Did you take a deep breath, silly? I don't care what the song says, love is not a battlefield, you don't need to panic.

He thinks for a second and changes his mind.

Actually no, scratch that. It is, but it isn't. You still need a strategy, but you need to have a level head first.

> You're right, you're right. Taking a deep breath

Captain Rex seems to materialize behind him and over the shoulder like a hologram, peering down at the screen out of curiosity. "Those don't look like reports. One of our brothers having a little lady trouble at 79's again?"

Fives laughs in good humor. "I'm not exactly sure why I got designated the 501st's biggest flirt, but I'll take it, Captain." He can get plenty nervous and unsure of what to say like anyone else, but Fives cares about his brothers; of course he's going to do his best to help them. "No, it's our favorite mechanic here on Coruscant." He trusts his Captain will exercise his discretion and make no mention of knowing the romantic and sexual persuasions of their friend if she hadn't made explicit mention to him. "I see. Well, wish her luck for me. I've got my own reports I've put off long enough."

"I'll have mine in by 21:30, Captain!" Fives promises, knowing he'll probably be helping some of the Shinies learn to fill them out properly once again. A little extra guidance and another source of advice goes a long way for many, brothers and friends alike.

> Good call about looking for pins, Fives. I think I'm in the clear

He's not totally sure what that color scheme ties to when you describe the personal touch this "total babe across the bar" has added to her handbag looks like, but the simple fact that you're now fairly sure you're safe to flirt with her (if that's what you decide to do) brings you a lot of relief.

Him too, honestly.

You gonna go for it, mesh'la? The Captain and I wish ya luck if you do!

> I'd have to think of the right words first, but thanks Fives. You coming to 79's later tonight?

Have reports to finish up, so we'll see.

Very funny, Ka'ra. I just try to be helpful to whoever asks.

> I'm only teasing~ You're a very smart dependable brother, and friend, Fives. Next time you come to 79's if it's not tonight, I'll buy you a drink as a way of saying thank you.

Fives smiles. He'd like that, he responds. He wishes you luck once more, and says he should get a start on wrapping this particular report up since it contains information the Captain will need to report to General Skywalker with.

Never told us there'd be this much damn paperwork to do as part of our training on Kamino if you're gonna be made an ARC trooper.

> Good thing you're smart, Fives. I'm confident you'll figure out something wicked intelligent, like how to stop this war one day. 🩷

Captain Rex (Doing his best to learn and support you)

"Huh… gotta say, there's certainly a lot to try to understand; I might still have a few questions about it, but I'm not gonna pry into it if you don't feel like explaining it." The Captain admits, scratching the back of his neck with a soft chuckle. "I'm not quite up to speed on all this, but-"

"Rex, it's okay." you assure him. "I know you're doing your best. I only told you a short while ago, remember? And hey," here you take his hand and give him a friendly squeeze, "it took me a while to realize this stuff about myself too. It's not always like the media where it just… "clicks", suddenly! It's almost like a building suspicion, or passing thoughts that you try to excuse at first, but then you realize that you're feeling these feelings and thinking these thoughts more and more. And that's when you tend to figure out "Oh, hey, that term I found on the Holonet describes me!" and it all makes sense. For the most part."

"Oh?" Rex asks, intrigued.

"Sometimes you find a label or orientation that fits you better than one you were first using." you explain, scribbling down a few labels off the top of your head onto a scrap of flimsi you had among your things as you met up with the Captain for a cup of caf on your day off, "Like say, you think this one best explains you," you circle an example, "so you use it for a while. But then later you hear about this-" you x-out the first label and circle a new one, "and you find it does a much better job of explaining how you feel. And there was nothing wrong with identifying with the first one for a while until you found what fit better and changed it, either."

He nods thoughtfully, very clearly mulling this over. Then it hits him. "A little like, well, when a Clone finds their name?"

"Yes!" you cheer, "Yes, kinda like when a Clone finds his name! Maybe he thought he wanted to be called Skip for a while, but he decided he felt more comfortable with naming himself Tripper after hearing someone else say it for the first time."

He thinks he better understands this now when he thinks of it in this context, he explains with a smile that suggests a lot of relief. He's just so busy, but he wanted to understand what you meant after the last night out you had with the 501st and you were all sharing embarrassing stories. Rex wasn't a stranger to the fact that men could like men and women could like women, but some of these other labels were lost on him.

"I've been around a while, but I have to admit I don't know what that means." he sheepishly replied when you explained what your orientation was as part of your embarrassing situation. But now that he knows, Rex wants you to know you'll always have his support.

Hardcase (Identifies as a Kriffing Problem if you don't respect his friends)

It's good news for you, bad news for the nasties when they decide that they want to be antagonistic in a safe space. You wanted to check out a new, very accepting bar in the area, and had asked Hardcase to come along with you to help ease your nerves about it.

His lively energy would do everyone some good, you figured. He was friendly and personable, so he'd get along with everyone. And you were right; Hardcase truly does get along with everyone from the snappily-dressed bartenders to the other allies who are there to support their friends in case there's trouble.

Everyone except the bigots. He's always been all-smiles off the battlefield due to his energetic nature, and you've never seen him drop a smile so fast. When it's time to get serious, Hardcase gets serious. "What the kriff did you say?" He's not asking because he didn't hear what insults had been lobbied your way, he's giving the other guy a chance to back down and leave if he knows what's good for him. "I know you didn't just say that about my friend."

The other guy repeats himself, louder this time. "I said anyone who identifies as a-"

"I'm about to identify as a kriffing problem if you don't shut the hell up." Hardcase warns him one last time, putting himself between you and the antagonizer who overheard you mentioning there were a lot of cute girls here tonight.. "Sorry that you feel so threatened by a woman finding someone other than you attractive, but that's a "you" problem that you should take somewhere else." He suggests they take a hike to 79's specifically. He conveniently "forgets" to mention that it's a Clone bar, and as the troublemakers leave, he tips off a few of his brothers about what's headed their way.

"Don't worry about them. They'll find out how many of us identify as a kriffing problem before they think about trying this again anytime soon." Hardcase promises, his sweet and charming smile present like it never even left as he checks on you after the fact.

Is there any headcanons about any of the characters you haven't gotten the chance to share?

As for headcanons hmm let's see.

I have been asked once if I had any trans headcanons for any of the characters, which of course I do. Radar is one of them. I see his adventure with Jesse and everyone in season 2 not only as a growth of personality and his strength to overcome the dangers of their world, but also as a means of finally finding comfort in his identity, especially with his friends who make him feel safe and comfortable with himself enough to come to terms with this, and finding it much easier to live his best life surrounded by friends who support him. I love to imagine later after season 2, Radar gets like a girlfriend who is so kind, loving, and supportive of him and he's seriously the happiest little guy in the world. I don't tend to make ocs for existing franchises though, so nothing will probably ever come of that character. It's just a nice thought I run by from time to time.

Speaking of Radar, I also like to hc that the tattoo on his arm is the witherstorm. Being such a big fan of Jesse himself, I think he'd definitely get a tattoo of what it was that began the whole story.

Also I know it's like, widely agreed upon that Radar is a child for some reason, but I hc him as a young adult because children can't get tattoos, run an adult job, nor do I think Jesse would be down for child labor. That's just me personally though, everyone has their own hcs.

For Aiden, I know I don't talk about him much because I genuinely hate him lmao, but I do hc that he and the Blazerods built their own lives in what used to be Sky City. Maybe owned up for their actions, and became notable citizens out there. That letter Jesse received at the end of season 2 from him, I imagine Jesse read and tossed into the trash. Aiden will never be a part of his life ever again after his attempted murder of both him, Lukas, and the rest of the Sky City people. Aiden's own story is just that. His own. Especially after the events of episode 5. The Blazerods will never be welcome back in BeaconTown so long as Jesse stands as leader. They get to continue their story without Jesse, and honestly? That is the best possible way it could ever be.

As for Petra, if you have read my Recovery fic, you know I hc her leaving BeaconTown at the end of season 2 and going on her own way where she discovers a path of being a griefer bounty hunter. It takes a long time for her to realize her inspiration to help people comes from the way Jesse does, but they both do it in completely different ways. Whereas Jesse stays in BeaconTown, leading and providing for his people, while Petra on the other hand chases down the people who leave towns burning, finding the utmost gratitude from those towns when she brings those griefers who looted and vandalized these peoples homes to justice. It's everything she needs. Adventure, combat, and a sense of belonging. She finds that she loves her job, but of course misses her friends dearly. She knows though that Jesse and the rest of her pals would be so happy for her for finding her calling, and when she does comes back, she gets to gloat about how much of a badass she's become, and how much people in towns across the world see her too as a hero. Jesse couldn't be more proud. Always embrace in the tightest bro hug they both can muster whenever they see each other again.

I haven’t thought much about his past, but I think that he is also a foreigner (as many other characters!), or rather his family is from other lands. He himself was born and raised in Yharnam, but his roots are southern.

Another doodle to show how exactly I see him (It's Laurence in the left and Edgar in the right, nevermind xD) :

What can be said for sure is that he is very cute!

A "father" for his soldiers (hunters), an excellent fighter, a strongman. An exemplary family man - in my headcanon he is married, and perfectly copes with the role of a father and husband. However, what he couldn't do is to be the "head" of the family - I think he is very shy and timid in private and in more intimate settings!

He's also a great knight! Like, a true knight (I mean not a medieval robber and feudal lord, but a really exemplary servant, master of the sword and sir in shining armor. I swear I read a legend about a knight with a magical, talking sword, (no, not Excalibur xd) It reminds me a lot of Ludwig, though I've forgotten the legend ;_;)

He has a lot of virtues, but his flaws.....

Stone-faced. Which made it hard for Laurence to get along with him at first. Ludwig is very closed and takes deeds rather than words. Laurence couldn’t understand his loyalty and endeavor to serve for some time, but when he got it – he started to fear that Ludwig will abandon the Church after discovering it’s dark secrets.

Ludwig is quite infantile inside - he loves strategy and tactics, but mostly uses it in games for children! And actually the one who got him talking and also befriended was Gehrman, who offered him to play a board game. Gehrman and Ludwig are good friends in my opinion and drinking buddies xd I just like to imagine them drinking a huge mugs of beer while Laurence sips juice through a straw from an exquisite glass. Both friends were a bit silly and eventually acquired enough local jokes that pissed Laurence off LOL

Ludwig had nightmares very often, and a restful sleep is a reward for him. Moon influence – thanks, Laurence.

He is Edgar's idol also! He dreamed of being like the perfect knight (but didn’t succeed xd). And I really like the headcanon that Ludwig picked up little Edgar on the street in his last sane year and gave him to the Orphanage on which the Choir was based. In my headcanons Edgar is stuck being 20 years old in a Nightmare, so I guess that's probably a pretty realistic course of events...? How did he survive his stay at the Orphanage, where children were "used" to communicate with the Great Ones? I-don't-know! xd I just like to think that way, haven't tried to seriously consider it.

Ludwig conducted the massacre of Old Yharnam with true steadfastness. That's why people started call him "The Beast" - he never once showed compassion for people turning into beasts. The problem is that when he does something, he shows no doubt. All his doubts and worries were left in Laurence’s hands, and Vicar was in no hurry to clear his image in front of people or dissuade them.

The Moonlight, after the incident with Old Yharnam, had been the only source of meaning for him. The moon called, the moon comforted, the moon promised. Under its influence, Ludwig forgot everything that brought pain, just as he had forgotten his wife and son and daughter, who had died turning into beasts.

Ludwig had faith in Laurence. Ludwig also believed in healing blood. It had healed his wife, and he believed it was the future of Yharnam. Vicar asked him not to ask questions, promising to tell him one day WHAT the Church was doing, but he wasn’t able to fulfill a promise. Ludwig found out everything for himself later.

Djura admired him at first, but later joined those who called Ludwig "The Beast." He could understand everything, but he couldn't forgive him for following heartless orders.

Ludwig had been an inspiration to Damian(Me? Not to mention Damian? HAhahahaha) during his years of service as a Tomb Prosperctor. Although Damian considered this service "unholy" (the old belief that the dead should not be disturbed), Ludwig inspired him to keep going.

And! Also he was a good friend of Maria. She wasn’t as naive as Ludwig, because tried to discover secrets of Research Hall, but they both had sensitive hearts. He was a good man and she valued it during those hard times. Also how couldn’t Ludwig not appreciate Gehrman’s best apprentice? Young, talented, kind-hearted – Maria was another «knight». (I love so much female archetype of «knight». I have some examples from other games and OH MY GOD, AHksdhfksjhfiwhe General Beatrix from Final Fantasy IX plus Lady Maria is a duo of my heart…)

I used to call myself holyvicar shipper, but actually no… I like it, as much as other pairings, I can even feel it, especially if feelings are one-sided (Ludwig is in love), but Laurence really wants to feel the same, but simply can’t. Ludwig is too easy for him? I don’t know. Ludwig/Maria? Ludwig/Micolash (lol)??? I appreciate any fanart or fanfics but not really into these ships. So Ludwig is married in my world.

How intelligent is your version of Boba in Gifted Kids AU?

Hi, sorry for the delayed reply. Answering asks is always on my backburner.

Anyway, I'd say Boba is very intelligent in GK, but in the specific areas he's trained in. Like his friends, I consider him a prodigy in his field, though whether that's a result of genetic engineering, Jango's training, or just natural talent is unclear, and is most likely a combination of all 3. I draw my inspiration for young Boba from a multitude of sources, including his appearances in the movies, Clone Wars, and the Boba Fett junior novels (although admittedly I only read one).

Boba's strengths lie in combat, spatial reasoning (mostly manifesting in good marksmanship), and strategy. Boba has gone through some advanced combat training in his short time with Jango, apparently even more advanced than that of a typical clone trooper, as evidenced by his first appearance in Clone Wars in which he is able to outperform the other cadets during target practice. When Jango was home, he spent a lot of one-on-one time with Boba, training him to succeed in the bounty hunter world. When not doing combat training with his father, Boba had some independent learning modules he kept up with, so he got some degree of formal education as well.

Also, canonically to the junior novels, Boba was a bookworm growing up, and especially loved reading about starships. This is a trait I carried over into Gifted Kids, and also added that he enjoyed classic adventure stories. The Adventures of Green Cloak and His Band of Thieves, which he was reading in the Death Sticks chapter, for example was a Star Wars version of Robin Hood. (Not canon, to be clear. I made that up.)

I also headcanon that Boba has a talent for picking up languages. I think Jango taught him, or at least got programing to teach him, several languages that are useful in the bounty hunter world. In my headcanon, Boba is fluent in Basic and Mando'a, conversational in Huttese and Ryl, and has picked up some Trandoshan from Bossk. In the GK timeline, he's also learned to understand some shyriiwook thanks to his training sessions with Mever and Tujji.

Where he struggled at first, was with emotional and social intelligence. The lessons he got about how to process emotions when he was growing up were.... not great to say the least. He basically learned the "push everything down, and then one day, you'll die" method of expressing emotions. After Jango died and Aurra took him under her wing, she encouraged him to turn his grief and pain into rage, hoping to turn him into a weapon she could point at opponents.

In the beginning on GK, I deliberately described emotions from Boba's PoV as "pain in his chest grew/lessoned" because Boba did not know how to name his feelings or identify why he was feeling a certain way. I also wanted Boba to witness his friends' emotional moments, so that he could learn through observation how other people expressed their emotions too. He's learned a lot from his friends, and in the latest chapters, he's able to not only identify his feelings but analyze them too.

Boba's come a long way since the beginning of GK and he still has further to go.

Made on Monday August 26th.

I slightly changed Tokisaki's design. She used to have back hair, but I thought it was a bit too much, so she only has the front part now. Also be careful not to be gazing at her too much, or you'll be destroyed by her protective older brother Tokisada, who, in my Headcanon, has a "scar" of the curse "carved" in his body. Also his fingers are a lighter color as a side effect to being imprisonned in ice for God knows how long...

Rouge Redstar & Naomi Orthmann : Metallic Rouge

When some girls from Mahana are having some time together on one of the wooden docks of their villages after hunting down some monsters. And it's even better with some fresh food and drinks !

Kayna was a mentor to both Leïa (my OC, right) and Ruby (@emilie_nct on Instagram, middle), so she is pretty much like a big sister to them ♥

Fun fact about our characters :

We both had the game the day of its International release (July 9th 2021) and we created without even knowing that the other one got the game. At the end of the same year, we were talking about our experience in the game, and we showed our characters to each other. We were shocked by how similar they were, so we decided to make them twins, with Ruby (middle) as the older one, and Leïa (right), as the younger one, just like us in real life (we are not blood related but she is older than me).

The final is a silly little idea that I had.

2 types of Snaky Boys meeting randomly at the Swimming Pool. They both are linked to fire (one manipulates it and the other uses a flamethrower), but where they are very different is ... the "Snake part"... While the Warrior of the Snake is just born the year of the Snake (in Chinese Zodiac), the Demigod has literal snakes coming out of his body (and a Abyssal Serpent inside but Otouto doesn't know that), so that was ... unexpected to say the least...

Also since Messmer is 11'9" (304 cm), it must be hard for him to find fitting clothes, so that's why his clothes are a bit too tight for him ngl.

Thanks! I've never written my own list before, but it was fun coming up with these!

On to the answers:

1. Have you pulled inspiration from media sources other than the property your fic is related to (a plot point from a TV show that has nothing to do with the characters/setting of the fic, a line from a book, etc.)? If so, for which story? Why did you find that media source compelling?

Well, I very openly ripped off an entire running gag from 30 Rock for the basic concept of Nemesis. The subplot of Jack having a nemesis who is a literal teenage girl who is just as into the rivalry as he is has always struck me as hilarious, so to shove Tarkin and Leia into those roles for a bit of crackfic was really fun, as was writing a Palpatine cameo that is sort of an unhinged version of Hank Hooper.

But, also, I am like 99% sure I had recently watched that episode of Community with Jack Black in it shortly before I thought of the idea for The Short Stick, and I think just the entire idea of "how annoying would it be to be a background character in this world where certain people are quite literally operating as main characters?" kind of snowballed into that fic.

Also also (and not entirely on topic, but it's topic-adjacent), I am positive I read a fic in which Han and Leia apologize to each other through gestures rather than words at some point during my Epic FanFic Binge Read of December 2022 and I immediately adopted that as headcanon. At the time I was not planning on writing fic, and I could not tell you which story it was (I seriously read so, so much during that time and a lot of stuff bled together and I didn't have an AO3 account yet, so there's no reading history for half of it), but that adopted headcanon sort of inspired the basic concept of Speak Louder.

20. Is there anything about any one of your fics that you have been dying to discuss but haven’t had the chance to?

Soooo, Han's motivations in Purpose of Heritage are not all Leia-centric. Like, a lot of his motivations aren't entirely Leia-centric at this point. The story's currently a little over a year past A New Hope on its timeline and while my intent is for there to be glimpses of their relationship with one another being different than their relationships with other people, he is operating on a mixture of motivations including but not limited to:

not wanting to be killed by a bounty hunter or Jabba

not wanting to be killed by the Empire

being friends with Chewie

being friends with Luke

being friend with Wedge

respecting Rieekan

finally kind of feeling like he belongs somewhere and realizing that he really likes that feeling

fearing the fact that he likes belonging somewhere and not wanting to face what that means about him needing others

shame over various aspects of his past

guilt for taking that damn reward money for sort of rescuing a person when like the only moral code that he is consistently dogged about keeping to is "don't treat sentients like product" (this is Leia-related, but still, I'd argue, not entirely Leia-centric)

and, yeah, caring for Leia in some kind of way

It's been really important for me to give him a mixture of motivations (even if no one ever sees them outright since this story is told entirely using limited third-person from Leia's POV) because I don't think it's likely that Han Solo was all-in on being 100% about the Princess all the time from the moment he stepped back on Yavin. I think he's a more complex and baggage-laden character than someone who is driven entirely by his affection for a woman he just met, and I promise that's the intent with which I've written his character even if his actions could be interpreted in a variety of ways.

Well I was gonna put a giant list but wait you ask about my favorites right??! i... don't know 😰 I'm really bad at choices 💀 But hey I'm gonna try! (+ had a giant list) I promise not real angsty or sad ones because I'm in the mood for happy things now! ✨

But first well I'm going to link my backstory headcanon for him and the last headcanons list I share for him in an ask game (it's going to be really similar that's why)

If I really had to choose one... well I would say he made the small hair ornament.

And that he made the mercy blade (it was his secondary weapon : in bloodborne we can wield 2 weapons and 2 firearms so...) and passed it down later to the first official hunter of hunter's.

Now here's some put randomly, hope you enjoy! :

He had a few class at Byrgenwerth, didn't go far in the studies but still and have a few classes with Laurence XD

Then he became Byrgenwerth's groundskeeper (employee #1)

he help Willem?/Laurence? to make the gold pendant by potentially making/finding the gold blood gems.

Specialist to hang out looking at the moon at 2am (I mean Caryll too. Byrgenwerth campus was a mess at times)

Of course he love flowers and weapons too! He could speak about hours of it! he's not real social but really cultivate he compensate with his close friends.

With Maria (and a bit caryll & maybe Rom??) they were in charge of cultivate the first Lumen flowers they bring back from Loran.

Part of the siderite use for his weapon and badge came from a meteorite he found when he was little.

yes he knew quite some stuff in astronomy, anatomy & geology (because I say so)

he got inspired by the undead alive giant "arms" for the burial blade.

His name originated from you know the cut content cainhurst knight missing a leg with a spear on a monster horse (kinda look like the tree sentinel in elden ring)

he could had become knight for Cainhurst but he politely declined

About his scarf I fall in love with a friend's version : Maria give it to him as a present. Alternatively it was from his family.

Yeah he had way too much version of the "how to pick up fair maiden books" (the church had them first!) because a few person give it to him or the workshop or it was to other hunters lol. Maybe it's just cool action novels too

he make great tea. And good food too

Ok so when he was older (after Maria passed away/before the dream and all) he got a dog! A white female wolfhound that hunt alongside him for years.

Of course he had dolls and made clothes for some plushies when he was little. he couldn't do really detailed broderies but sew clothes wince he was young.

He made hats for his friends for a Christmas or smt

Well he made the doll clothes but the one the doll wear or a precedent version of the made it for Maria. Or at least he made the red neckerchief!!

Probably design/made at least 1 church outfit or accessories

Of course the charred hunter set is from him??

This man can fix almost anything! (Like weapons)

He don’t need a lot of sleep it’s crazy but when he’s in deep sleep just talking doesn’t work you need to move and push him

His cane is a little trick weapon too. A simple yet cool and fancy sword cane.

Update : omg i forgot to said he made little wood animals figures for his friends! (And more complexe one too!)

What are Sergeant Barnes's intentions with Kitten?

Every God deserves a tribute. Why shouldn't he also have a bride? Contracts ought to be honored, don't you agree? AS for how he plans on gettin' hold of Kitten for good well... Ma Rogers may have t'knock some sense into him 'fore he's allowed to admit it, but it's already too late. Blood always flows home, after all, an' these are her kinfolk. what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have? ━━ Well, I suppose my love for the character came first and foremost, but I had some ideas about him that I wanted to explore. I started out writing some fanfiction for him on AO3, but found that I really wanted to interact with other writers in the fandom, and roleplay is the most straightforward way to do that! I'm really enjoying it so far!

is there anything you don’t like to write? ━━ There's a few things I prefer not to roleplay, the first and foremost is Jilco. Sorry you will just never catch me doing anything concerning that. Another thing is Silco getting his way 100% of the time. I like there to be struggle in most aspects of his life and work. He doesn't make it easy on himself with his choices, and it gives me more to do in roleplay.

is there anything you really enjoy writing? ━━ I love writing Silco getting himself injured or in peril. He's delightfully stubborn, which usually ends up with him getting himself into some terrible situations, in canon and otherwise. I also really enjoy writing him being protective over those he cares about, because he expresses those emotions in such a unique way from other people.

how do you come up with headcanons? ━━ Usually I just get inspiration from a scenario I'm writing or a perspective I'm exploring. Silco makes his opinions pretty openly known in the show, which gives me a great base to start from. Another blessing of the great writing team on Arcane. So yeah, most of the time I just search for inspiration. Sometimes I turn to ask memes and quizzes, but other times I just think of it on my own.

do you write in silence or do you play music? ━━ I have to have music on. I have entire playlists dedicated to characters I play, and Silco is no exception. His playlist mainly comprises of dark techno, industrial, and some alternative pop. It's mainly music that either matches his character or the vibe of The Last Drop under his reign. It just helps me get into his mindset with a touch more immersion.

do you plan your replies or wing them? ━━ I try to plan where I can, but also leave things loose enough that it doesn't feel like it's railroaded. I prefer to have heavy communication with my rp partner, and a general direction of where the thread is going. Goals, themes, tropes, etc etc. That being said, I also don't mind having a bit of improve for shorter form roleplay, where there's a paragraph or less to write at a time.

do you enjoy shipping? ━━ With Silco? It depends. He's not exactly a very open person with his love since Vander, but it's not impossible. When he does form a bond with someone, it's usually deep and passionate, regardless of its type (platonic, romantic, familial, etc). I've had some interests, but really I wait for my rp partner to bring it up, because the last thing I'd want to do is overstep! Let's just say I'd be happy to explore it with the right people.

So someone asked me a question about my characterisation of Viney (I swear I exist just to answer this question). Unfortunately, the answer was WAY too freaking long, so to avoid completely clogging up the comments section I'm putting it here instead

(Someone in the comments of Grasping for Safety Chapter 15 asked where the inspiration for Viney being so angry came from when that doesn't seem to be particularly canon. Also, why is she so attached to Hunter when in canon she seemed more distrustful/meh on him? And why does she seem like she disliked Amity even before the fic started?)

Yessss let me ramble about Viney >:3 I have so many thoughts about her it's not even funny-

TL;DR: she isn't normally Like This, there are some particular aspects of this situation that are bringing a lot of anger out for her. I relent that I wasn't able to really establish how my version of Viney NORMALLY acts before Chapter 2 happened, but oh well

(Some parts of the answer are spoilers for the rest of the fic so this is nonexhaustive)

As for Viney headcanons--(obligatory disclaimer that all of this is just kind of taking some stuff from canon and fully running with it in my own direction)--I think she doesn't trust people generally (based on how hostile she was to Luz at first in The First Day) but once she decides she likes someone she goes All In and would trust them with her life (based on how quickly she decided to adopt Luz into their friend group and tell her all their secrets). We know she dislikes the rules about tracks and magic use, and when she gets in trouble for disobeying them she just turns around and does it in secret, so I think she has a lot of anger and distrust about the education and Coven systems, and just authority figures generally. But also, whenever she's faced directly with an authority's displeasure (including the Labyrinth Runners scene where Hunter looks to her and Skara for back up!) we see her back down in favour of staying quiet and just taking whatever is thrown at her/her friends. That combined with how surprisingly quickly she warmed up to Luz after Luz defended her from the detention teacher's scolding in First Day makes me think she's got a lot of issues with authority but doesn't really feel like she can do anything about it. But she wants to, and she hates her and her friends being treated unfairly, so anyone who steps in on their behalf is immediately her bestie. Also, given how she refuses to stop mixing magic in the detention track and worships Lord Calamity (the Ultimate Troublemaker™), BUT won't talk back to any teachers or Bump, I think she wishes she could stand up to those systems/the people enforcing them but feels like she can't. So, anyone who does tell them off immediately earns her respect (and on the flip side, anyone who kisses up to them is her enemy).

Relatedly, I headcanon she decided to join Willow's Flyer Derby team because Willow mentioned the abomination teacher had it out for her and Viney was immediately like "yes, I will help you stick it to an unfair teacher!" especially since getting her club approved is more of an indirect way to go against them than telling them off to their face. Like, I think she was interested in the team already but that sealed the deal. And then, Viney sees the Flyer Derby team as all on the same side, working against this power-tripping teacher, so all her teammates got adopted as her friends in her mind.

Basically, she's kind of got this very black-and-white, us-versus-them way of thinking, which is great if you're on "her side" because she will do anything for you (except stand up to an authority figure haha) but if she decides you're on the "other side" then she just kind of hates you, even if you didn't actually do anything wrong. (And I think her first impression of Amity was more in-passing back when Amity was the Queen Bee of the school, top student, teacher's pet, etc.; so yeah, Viney definitely disliked her before this fic started, and isn't aware/doesn't care that Amity's had any character development since then. And when Amity didn't actively stand up for Hunter in the healing homeroom, Viney just decided she was unequivocally on Bump's side and had it out for Hunter, because she sees the worst in people she dislikes.)

Also related to the us-versus-them thing, I think it's really interesting how she turns on Luz and Jerbo so fast; she seems pretty loyal to her friends but then immediately goes off on them based on so little. In First Day she literally spills all the trio's secrets to Luz, then hears an out-of-context remark from Gus and immediately goes "you think you're too good for us??? GET OUT" Viney doesn't even give her a chance to explain, just kicks her out. And in Any Sport, Jerbo is literally just on the teacher's team, with seemingly no context to the match and just trying to have fun, and she is immediately pissed with him, actively targetting him in the game and being passive aggressive afterward. And he didn't seem surprised, he's preemptively just like "Oh no..." so I think her getting mad over stuff like that is just a normal thing for her. (And it never really came up but she's still a little bit upset over that in this fic, and LOT bit mad with both him and Barcus for not immediately jumping on the helping Hunter train, even though she didn't even invite them to.) Point is, she seems to have got this very strong "you're either with me or you're against me" mentality that she refuses to be swayed on, and she has difficulty hearing or seeing things from other people's perspectives because she just feels like everything is a personal attack, especially in the heat of the moment.

That said, this level of anger issues (and how she's standing up to authority figures) aren't really my Viney's normal. She's usually just standoffish with strangers and chill with her friends, with a healthy dash of anti-authority sentiments baked in, but this situation is... unique and has pressed a lot of buttons for her. Said situation pushed her to go directly against Bump's orders in Chapter 2 in favour of going after Hunter, giving her a taste of disrespecting authority figures (and getting away with it), and now she's hooked. The fact that she went from standing up to Bump for the first time ever and then a few chapters later went right for attacking a Coven Head is so iconic, she's really speedrunning her way from Quiet Delinquent to Full On Criminal and I love that for her. Eda would be so proud <3

And THEN there's her opinion on Hunter~ I think they're SUPER interesting and I have so many thoughts and I'm SOOOO normal about them (lying), and THERE WILL BE MORE VINEY AND HUNTER CONTENT IN THE FUTURE :D But some of it has been hinted at, especially in Chapter 5 and I wanna ramble some more so I will >:3

So like, Hunter was on the Flyer Derby team standing up to a teacher, so he was on "Viney's side" which made her immediately like him. They played one game together and now they're besties, working against the system, sorry I don't make the rules. And then he literally kidnaps her, gives her over to the Emperor's Coven, which is basically the teacher's pet of Covens, completely against her will. And if you haven't noticed, a lot of her issues have to do with not having control of her own life and her own choices. Like, that's a pretty traumatising thing to happen in general but it really pushed that specific pressure point for her.

So yeah, as she so eloquently put it in Chapter 5, "she might have wanted to bash his face in just a little bit at the time." But THEN he literally threw himself in between her and a Coven Head to protect her. So, once she calmed down a bit from that whole Event and could see things more rationally, she looked back and recontextualised all their interactions with this new information (including the fact that the highest ranking EC member is literally school-aged), and ended up coming to the conclusion that he seemed more naïve than malicious, and is probably just indoctrinated. So she kind of feels like they're kindred spirits in the whole victim-of-the-system department, he just doesn't know it yet. He's not her friend or anything, but she does feel for him and would like to help him embrace his inner rebel, but has absolutely no idea how to do that so they just end up not really talking.

Then the Emperor's Coven attacks Hexside, and all those issues with the Coven system and not having control over her life and magic and the trauma of being kidnapped that one time are dragged back up, yayyyy~! And THEN she sees Hunter and Gus are being dragged around, Hunter unconscious, by some Coven scouts and Graye himself- and she just snaps and drags Skara into recklessly trying to save both of them. Because she is NOT about to let the EC abuse their aurthority and treat people she happens to care about like that. Then Willow and Bump show up, the scouts get away with Gus, and Willow convinces Bump to let them bring Hunter back to the homeroom.

This is where we veer away from canon but a lot of it still applies to my canon thoughts about her. So, again, Viney really wants to help him (she heals him and tries to be comforting through the whole scene) but still doesn't feel capable of standing up to Bump and the illusion teacher, and honestly feels like she's a bad friend for it. Especially since not only does she kind of feel like she owes him for standing up to a literal Coven Head, but also he was literally just getting kidnapped by the EC and she knows how THAT feels. She does believe everything he says though; she had assumed he left the Coven and then they kidnapped him to get him back, and him working with Gus makes sense to her since they were both being dragged around. She still has some mixed feelings about him but she doesn't think he's lying; she tends to give her friends the benefit of every doubt and assume the worst of everyone else, so.

Of course, Bump and the illusion teacher are immediately hostile to him, and she can tell it's really freaking him out. While most everyone else interprets that as him being nervous because he's lying, she gives him the benefit of the doubt and assumes it's because he's just traumatised and is now being bullied by random teachers threatening to send him back (what a revolutionary thought /s). And it's infuriating to watch someone get interrogated before they can even fully stand about how they must be evil and lying and dangerous, and she thinks they're just being unfair because they decided they're not going to trust him. Which is what authority figures do to her, because she's been labelled a "troublemaker."

SO, she goes full-on projection, throws those mixed feelings right out the window, and gets REALLY invested in helping him, because she doesn't want him to feel like he's completely alone with everyone out to get him. That mixed with her black-and-white, us-versus-them thinking makes her very defensive of him because anyone saying anything slightly critical of him must mean they also want to bully him just like the teachers! There is no other explanation! (He's her bestie now and that means she'd die for him, sorry not sorry.)

That's also part of why comfort is always her first go-to; she reassures him, she tries to talk him down, she heals him before getting him out of the airship, etc. because her first priority is that he feels like he has someone there for him and he's not alone. She's pretty loyal to her friends anyway but seeing so many authority figures push him around when he's clearly already in a vulnerable place gets her blood boiling and she is beyond ready to make that everyone else's problem. (In canon she wasn't pushed to the point of standing up to Bump nor did she end up projecting onto Hunter quite so much, but I think after canon Labyrinth Runners she spent a lot of time checking in on him, loudly defending him to any wary students, and just being very friendly. I don't think he knew how to take that haha)

IN CONCLUSION I think about Viney too much tysm for asking <33
