A few months back, I asked if it was okay to write using Clora and Seb. Finished the work - thought I'd lost it on my hard drive and a virus scan located it.

Not sure if it's sad or happy, but the basic premise of it is Clora getting frustrated/upset at Sebastian and Sebastian comforting her, Sebastian getting upset at a predicament Clora's in and Clora comforting him, and them both getting frustrated/upset and having to comfort each other.

@sunshine-goblin AAA THANK YOU!!! im honoured its your fav fanfic AND ALSO THE LONGEST YOUVE READ BAHAHAA fr, when you say its as long as four books in lotr it rly makes me realize how insane i am😃👍 aw IM GLAD I COULD INSPIRE YOU TO DRAW MORE AND WRITE AS WELL😭 I was curious so i creeped you and everyone go look at their HL blog @sunshines-legacy your MC is so cute and so is your art🥹💖 as for tips on writing a longfic and brainstorming and motivation and stuff, my motivation was my brainrot and unhappiness with the canon story/ending LMAOO, and looking at the story of the game and playing around with what i was unhappy with/what i WISHED could have happened instead, was a lot easier than just coming up with plotlines from scratch. but something i highly recommend is just OUTLINING and making a timeline, one of my fav parts of writing was just putting on some cafe ambience in the background and doing stream of conscious type word documents where id just barf ideas and then worry about making it pretty later....like look at how many versions of the same chapter i have BAHAHA or like different renditions bc i couldnt decide if id wanna keep a scene/what order, so id make a timeline and keep smoothing things out until i was happy with it and whatnot

brainstorming is defs my fav part of the process and the most helpful part to me. just getting a blank document and writing stuff you want to happen without worrying about how it connects to the story, and then a lot of the times as i was doing that id just keep going and it would kinda tie itself together/id come up with a solution as i was writing / once the ideas kept flowing. so basically : TIMELINES AND OUTLINES I VERY MUCH RECOMMEND, but very low pressure and barebones ones. for example, this is what my outlines/brainstorming look like

its honestly just me talking to myself LMAO, and a lot of the time ill interject and be like "OH YEAH AND THEN THIS CAN HAPPEN" as the ideas come while im writing BAHAHA. its a super fun process and honestly nothing feels better than just getting hit with that flash of inspo, and since its all very low effort theres no pressure to actually write well and its just a chill fun time AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR OWN PROCESS / WRITING💖💖💖it can be difficult but HOPE U HAVE FUN TOO💖💖

i have like a little template in my drafts with my basic layout (like title, prologue, warnings, pairing etc and so on) and i just keep it to copy and paste for a new fic. and underneath the header and info section, i just outline messy dot points. and each dot point gets turned into a few paragraphs or a scene. and i always have some typa thesaurus open 😭

— 4. where do you find inspiration for ideas

oouh!! mostly song titles i think, i always use them as a jumping point. or actually i really love pinterest, and web-weaving type of posts when it comes to themes i wanna explore (mostly in sfw fics, as opposed to like short smut) 😁

nope 😭 my drafts are always super messy and all over the place and im always a little self conscious esp since i jump between ideas and dialogue. BUT i am always yapping in peoples dms and talking abt ideas anyway or getting dialogue checked for clarity...

omg! rent-a-dilf by @screampied i found it sooo charming and effortlessly engaging and also super fun even tho i've never played the sims.

i forgot to like this and add it to my queue so i took an hour to find this particular one, but what you know by @starmapz sukuna and reader are so well characterised and incredibly written! i also loved little yuuji and choso's cameos :(

and they were roommates by @sugoroo i loved it so bad, so EXCELLENT and the tension and smut had me on the edge of my seat. choso's made me laugh 😭

— 13. whats a common writing tip you always follow?

honestly it feels like a cop-out answer but i always try to remember 'unlearn shame' in my head. like when im writing, like for no reason, i get a bit embarrassed or self aware or im overthinking a sentence?? i just have to remember that it is just never that deep....😭

however, a better answer i think would be that for 99% of my fics (so excluding very short fluff, or straight up jackhammering smut) i always always do worldbuilding first. my favourite authors are j.r.r tolkien and george rr martin so middle earth/westerosi levels of high fantasy are massive inspirations when it comes to the grand scheme of creating a world for my characters to interact in.

also i rlly love mythology, folktales and medieval history so they always play a role in how i write or treat common themes. i think its super interesting and poignant at how some stories survive thousands of years and resonate across different cultures, and they remain classics for a reason <333 if that makes sense

like okay say! even in fics that aren't a part of some royal/fantasy/myth au right, like idk say im writing about gojo dying (rip king 😰) its obviously set within the jjk world in 2018, but i would try to see how the following works express the same theme of grief, battle, leaving a loved one behind:

the death of sigurd in the volsunga saga in norse myths

patroclus and achilles in the illiad

a medieval french epic called the song of roland, where roland's death is felt so strongly by his fiancee that she dies

tristan and isolde (tristan being mortally wounded n knowing that he will leave isolde behind, and she succumbs to grief)

the japanese folklore tale of the warrior tomoe gozen, and how she mourns her lord and lover

hmm honestly, i did have an answer for this at first like 'oh yeah this one xyz i wish it got more notes' but that being said i feel like there's none that i feel truly flopped on par with how im improving writing and getting more comfortable. but! if i had to choose: goo goo muck #1 with the minotaur au because i rlly put some thought into how i could incorporate sukuna, yuji, and yuji's execution with the myth of the beast trapped in the maze.

and ditto! i think its my longest fic so far 😭 and it took me so long to plan out a timeline from childhood to gojo's death

it would be poor form and incredibly remiss of me to not say user @creamflix 🤭 i really love how ur dialogue flows, and the way you describe scenes make me feel like i'm really there (a+ for me)

also @tonycries simply because every time i try my hand at smut, it takes me 4 days to think of something new, and i'm always wondering on how to reword shit so i'm not writing the same thing over and over, but they keep it soooo fresh and new with every fic and soooo well written!!

As someone who has TRIED to write longfic for a while, I find outlining and sticking to it so fucking hard?! Like I never know what I'm doing at all. And I wanted to ask how do you do it??? Like what's your process if you have one or just whatever tips you have, because I feel like the pacing and plot/character evolution in your fics is so good? Idek dude I'm desperate this is so hard 😭😭 but I really wanna do it so. Help please

Honestly this is the first long fic I’ve managed to write, it’s something I’ve struggled with a lot as well. I guess I have a couple tips, but it’s by no means expert advice. It’s also possible some of this is too basic, idk, but I’ll do my best to be helpful.

Outlining and thinking into the future is really important but I’d actually recommend you give yourself a little flexibility to change things as well. I like to have my end point set- that means I know how characters start out and how they change through the course of the fic. After that I basically just have to get from point A to point B by figuring out what events happen to change the characters over the course of the plot.

In Debaser the start point is a closeted, self-denying Billy and a Stu that’s not yet completely sure of his place in Billy’s orbit. At the end we have a Billy who is still closeted but admits his sexuality to himself and has fallen in love with Stu, and we have an equally but more openly in love Stu who is also significantly more confident (if also severely injured).

It helps to have a solid midpoint as well, this is basic plot structure stuff. You need the characters to face a challenge and overcome it, and for Debaser this is Maureen’s death. It’s their first murder but it also marks the beginning of a significant change in their relationship. Before Maureen their behaviour has been almost justifiably kinky to Billy. He can tell himself that he’s only getting off on causing Stu pain, but kissing him crosses a line, and then there’s everything that happens at Christmas and it just continues from there.

As I’m writing this stuff I try to be mindful that I’m creating a sense of escalation- the characters are making progress or regressing, but either of way the stakes are getting higher. Scream lends itself well to that, so I got lucky.

It also helps that I’m sort writing a book slasher, at least later in the fic. It means I can make use of those tropes, so I have something to lean on. I’d recommend figuring out some tropes that you like from the genre you’re working in, and put your own spin on them or find a way to subvert them.

I often work through this kind of planning with more of a visual map, then this eventually gets turned into bullet point summaries of each chapter. When I actually go to write the chapter a lot of the time I realize some of those planned plot points don’t quite work or don’t feel in character, and in those cases I often change those details. If it works better for the story I’m telling then it’s good to go off-script a little. There are usually some major events that I won’t change, but most things are fair game.

Finally, I’d recommend writing ahead. It’s really benefited me to know what’s happening in the next few chapters before I edit for publishing. That way I can add in or change any details that no longer work with what’s coming up in the future.

I hope some of this makes sense (and is helpful) but like you’re right, it is hard. It’s such a scary process honestly and that’s part of why Wave of Mutilation is taking me so much time. But yeah I think it’s normal for it to feel kind of awful to do this kind of thing. Truly the only thing i hate more than writing is not writing.

We're Not Mad Professor!

Sebastian and Ominis x f!reader. Can be read as platonic!

A/n: This is my first fic...I'm not used to writing them! I hope this is okay, the prompt is so silly it makes me smile :)

"Did we just-"

"yep."

"And you turned her into-"

"Uh-huh."

The two boys share a look of disbelief as they look down at the ground. A puddle of robes and skirts, weighed down by something-or rather someone. You.

"I wasn't aiming at her."

Sebastian's face is filled with both horror and shock as he bends down and lifts up a rock. A plain, smooth, grey rock. It's still warm.

"Can she breathe? I mean, rocks don't breathe. Oh merlin, did I kill her?"

"relax." Ominis shakes his head in wonder. "Lydia The Small was transfigured into a lyre for three years and was perfectly fine. Still, we need to get her to Professor Weasley."

"Absolutely not!" Sebastian whirls around, and Ominis's wand showed him the outline of him holding the rock-or you as Ominis was slowly accepting- in his hands carefully. "No, I am on my last straw! If I get one more strike, I have to spend my lunch period in detention for the rest of the year!"

"Well then what do we do about it?" The question hangs between the two boys before Ominis carefully ventures. "Um, Garreth is good at Transfiguration. We can ask his help?"

"Are you out of your bloody mind? Honestly Ominis! Let's take her to nurse Blainey. At least she hasn't burned her brain away from too many exploding cauldrons."

Sebastian starts walking towards the castle and Ominis hurries after him, matching his pace. "Because the nurse knows better than Professor Weasley? Why don't I take her to Professor Weasley, I don't have any strikes."

"You are dreadful at Transfiguration."

"Thanks?" Ominis blinks, shaking off the insult. "They would never believe you turned her into a rock." A quick stumble on a tree root and Sebastian scrambles to catch you after accidentally letting go of the grey stone you had turned into.

"Merlin, Sebastian, put her in your pocket!" Sometimes, on days like these, Ominis wonders how Sebastian is still alive. Thank merlin for a head of common sense, or else Sebastian wouldn't have owed Ominis three different counts of his life.

"i don't want to put her in the dark!" Yep, Sebastian definitely wouldn't survive without Ominis.

"Rocks don't have eyes, you absolutely moronic oaf."

"Wait...she's blind right now?" A look of shock passes Sebastians face before he realizes. "Oh, no Ominis I didn't mean it like that-"

"Sebastian, just shut it okay? You're making an idiot of yourself."

The walk back to the castle is quiet. Sebastian could cry from how panicked he is...could you even survive being transfigured into something so...un sentient? Well, maybe. He is well aware that Ominis doesn't mind the matter. Sebastian bitterly reflects on how his best friend is more likely more worried about the weather than the rock- girl- in his hands.

Not true. Ominis is thinking about what you would sayvwhen they finally get you back to normal. Priceless.

Well, After he got you back to normal. However long that will take.

Sebastian Sallow is a strange boy, sure. But nobody in the school expected to see a panicked and tear stained Sebastian enter the great hall while cupping a rock. Not to mention he was followed by an eerily calm, slightly amused looking Ominis. And no MC.

"Nurse Blainey?" The nurse looked up at the sound of her name and her face fell when she realized who had said it. "One lunch break, Sallow. Please."

"We need your help, please." Ominis peeked around (or what he assumed was around) his friend. "Could you accompany us to the hospital wing?"

And so she did, grudgingly, but she did. "What is it, boys? I hope you know you interrupted my first patient free lunch since I started this job."

"I am very sorry Ma'am. I am afraid this matter is urgent." Ominis spoke for both he and Sebastian. "You see, our friend is hurt."

"How bad?" The womans eyebrows furrowed as she looked between the two.

"Well...she got hit by a spell. A transfiguration spell."

Nurse Blainey's face went from concerned to enraged in a matter of seconds. "No! This prank that you lot have been pulling is not funny. Three of your little friends have tried it already- with a sheep no less- and I am not falling for it again. If this friend really got hit by a transfiguration spell, you need to go to Professor Weasley."

"Madam!" Sebastian cried. "We can't! She would skin us alive!"

"I'm about to skin you alive! I'll make a deal. Bring me your friend, and I will do my best. If this turns out to be a prank, I will see to you being removed from the quidditch team, Mr. Sallow, and you from the Chess club, Mr. Gaunt." The nurses face softened at Sebastian's anguish. Ominis's poorly hidden amusement made her suspicious, but she knew that after that threat, both boys wouldn't dare to go through with a prank.

"Thank you, Ma'am. Truly! We owe you one." Ominis smiled.

"Yes you do. Now, take me to your friend."

"Actually, we have her here!" A barely stifled giggle left Ominis's mouth as his wand provided him with the outline of Sebastian presenting the rock.

"...You're joking."

"I'm afraid not, ma'am."

Nurse Blainey screamed in frustration. "I would have thought you better than this! I meant it when I said I would have you both removed, I might even recommend suspension!"

Sebastian nearly dropped you in his scramble to save himself. "Nurse, we really are serious! I swear! I swear on...on MC's life!"

hello love!!! im actually surprised as well for being able to write this much 😭 BUT!!! the answer is making outlines!! i have very verrryyy detailed outlines for every fic im writing rn (nb and tlp) and it helps me greatly bcs it feels like i have some sort of like a guide(?) where im going with a scene. for instance, this was my rough outline for tlp

and somebody asked this before as well so this is generally my 3-step writing process

sometimes tho i do still tend to get stuck even when i have an outline before me and what i do is just not write at all and leave it be for a few days. some other times i do force myself to sit down in front of my laptop and just write whatever 😭 so ig u could say i word vomit to just let the scene out!!! and honestly i feel like that was my writing mistake before then, hency why i wrote less. i was sort of apprehensive about "word vomitting" bcs i felt like my first draft should be the final one, but u gotta realize that the first draft can be very different from the first one if gou go thru it again and edit!

tl;dr: write outlines! it doesnt have to be very detailed. just the poignant moments in your fic and see where u can go from there! writing is easier when ur not freeballing it HAHA x but ofc thats just my opinion and it can vary for person to person! hope this helped anon ♥️

THE BELOVEDEST OF THEM ALL …… my extremely neglected best friend’s brother!kenjaku fic T_T my magnum opus even . i started writing it out a while ago but had to stop bc i can’t decide how to format it …. i think it’d be best to tell the story through a lot of flashbacks but it’s difficult to decide where to put what flashbacks in a way that doesn’t disturb the flow, yk??? but i do have everything outlined and i’m super excited to finally post it :33 someday… bfb!kenny is the actual loml i have so much lore planned for him. this fic is just a whole bunch of yearning and tension… the tiniest tiniest bit suggestive bc he truly makes me ill.

ANOTHER DEARLY BELOVED WIP that’s been rotting in my drafts for a while ….. 👉👈 i think that out of all of these fics this is the first one that i wrote the outline to?? probably even before i made this blog. it’s basically just a canon-aligned au where gojo navigates his maybe-possibly-feelings for you, a new teacher at jujutsu high!! sooo really just my attempt to write what i view as a more canon-aligned gojo and his feelings towards love :3 mostly character-centered fluff and slowburn… some office au vibes…. i’m very fond of this reader!! and i love this version of gojo so bad i really hope i can do him justice…

my sickeningly fluffy cult leader geto fic <333 bc i’m spreading the agenda that he is a puppy of a man towards his s/o. this one is just meant to be funny and sweet!! i adoreee the thought of him dating a retired sorcerer with a normal ass job so in this one the reader works at a preschool…. and they’re meant to attend some kind of event for the preschool + is offered to bring a plus one. mild chaos ensues (geto doesn’t want to be anywhere near your non-sorcerer colleagues but he also wants to support you so he’s having a bit of a crisis rn…..) i LOVE this one and i’m so excited to write it out <333333 i think this geto is the most endearing man alive.

Omg I’m so sorry I don’t know how I missed this one!! 😭 But here you go!!

So No Rest for the Wicked was a Halloween fic that I was going to write + post last Halloween, but I ended up not liking the first draft so I scrapped it. (I was also overwhelmed with school + my first internship 😅) Here and there I managed to edit the outline and get it to a concept I liked.

In this fic the reader is an FBI agent who is tracking down a notorious killer. It’s set in an alternate universe where the avengers and all that don’t exist. (It’s super inspired by crime shows I love -> Criminal Minds + Bones ❤️)

The reader is at their wits end with the case and ends up needing to team up with her friend/neighbor Bucky Barnes to solve the case. He just so happens to be a vigilante who’s taken justice into his own hands after he left the military.

Not only is he a great ally, he’s also the FBI’s biggest suspect 👀🔍

Hello there! Nice to see you again.

Starting a fic is always the daunting part of making one, but I always make sure to have written down an outline and knowing the in and outs of your narrative (character arcs, how do you want things to progress, outlines of your chapters, how do you want it to end, etc).

I can't say much about promoting, because I personally think it comes down to luck (I didn't expect ppl to even like my work to begin with), but I think as long as you put your work out there, there will be people who will find your work and be interested in it no matter what. Don't let the lack of engagement of your content discourage you as well -- make sure you do your content for your own happiness and enjoyment as well! (Of course, there's nothing wrong with finding happiness in sharing and people finding/appreciating your work - but engagement ≠ the worth of your work existing, and I have to emphasize that very heavily)

Honestly I'd stick to writing it out the first chapter first than making references UNLESS you really want to put down how you want Michael (or other characters) to look in your fic (especially if you plan to have your own distinct design to him), but I don't blame you for finding references daunting and difficult - they're so difficult to create and draw. I honestly don't know what to advise you for this part as I also personally have a hard time making reference sheets and whatnot - a silly part of me tends to think about how satisfied I'd be seeing it finished and being able to use it for future purposes as a little thing that motivates me.

It's okay as well if you want to create references/artworks as you go along with writing the actual fic, though!

Make sure to make an outline first of your entire fic story (and outlines for chapters you'll write about), and don't stress out too much about the process of everything else - sometimes the frustration/pain of writing is part of it, it makes finishing the work/going through it all the more satisfying. You can even get a beta reader if you want a fresh pair of eyes to look at it.

I'm curious to see what you'll write in the future though! :] I'd love to read it someday, but no rush at all! You can't rush art after all :]

Probably Late-Night Dances, which involves MCD🫣🫣 or really any of the handful of fics I've written where a character doesn't make it.

Oooh maybe Fly The Black Flag? I kind of borrowed the ending from POTC but changed some things, and a little while later, I was able to write a sort of epilogue/outtake where Rowaelin have a child, and it was super fluffy and cute and heartwarming.

No? I don't think so, this community is genuinely wonderful and so supportive :))

Yes I do, hehe. I've only ever written F/M explicit content

Probably The Only Option, which has a whole plan/outline and some notes for the plot but will probably never be anything more than what it is. This also happens to be the fic that sparked my main idea for an original novel, so it might never be more of a fanfic, idk.

I honestly don't know lol. I think I can write family dynamics/kids pretty well, but I grew up with a bunch of siblings so it's kind of easier for me to write sibling and family dynamics. I'm also the proud (?) owner of an inner angst monster that I call Frederick, and he's very very good at having ideas for making situations painful 🤭

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Definitely consistency. Even in oneshots, I'm prone to forgetting what I wrote earlier or if they're linked oneshots/in the same setting or world, I tend to forget or change details about the setting, which just bothers me SO much. And don't even get started on how horribly inconsistent I am in long fics 😭😭 like, I'm a hella planner, but somehow I'll be rereading old parts of a draft (hello, Until Proven Guilty) and realize that there are big glaring gaps from the earlier parts to the later parts and just cry over the plot holes.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Love it! If the language is significant to a certain character, particularly to their background/development, I love to see dialogue in another language. Wish I spoke better in the other languages that I sort of know (Spanish/tiny bit of Italian) so I could incorporate it into writing. I think it's also super super amazing how some writers can create original languages.

Not sure if you’ve answered this question before, but i absolutely LOVE your writing, and i just have to ask how you get over the embarrassment of writing smut 😭😭 i have SO many ideas i want to write but every time i open a document to do it, i can hardly type anything without feeling a huge wave of embarrassment, and i end up not writing anything. Do you have any tips or is there a way you can share your thought process while writing smutty scenes?

what annoys me the most (as a chronic quitter with debilitating adhd lmao) is that it's really just practice. and lots of it. i used to get really self-conscious about it (and sometimes still do), but the more i wrote, the less i stressed over it. once you get a feel for what works for you, it becomes so much easier, honestly!

and read lots!! when i first started writing smut, i combed through my favourite fics and found what appeals to me the most. what styles, what type; length, detail, dialogue, positions. and then i just wrote blocks of what i enjoyed. it makes it less embarrassing when you're writing what you'd read anyway.

as for actually writing it:

my process used to be that i'd plan scenes out and section them off (build-up - who initiates, etc; foreplay - which character is giving/receiving, what else is included, etc; sex - positions, length; end - how does the scene end?).

it makes it easier to write each piece separately and then come back and link them all together. and i prefer this style of outlining/writing because if i ever got stuck on something, i could just skip it and write another part. i'm so caught up in writing the steps, and focusing on how everything flows and sounds, that the actual smut doesn't really bother me.

but now i just focus on what feels natural for the characters. i don't really do too much planning outside of "hey, that's hot; lets do it" but it definitely took practice to get to that point.

i love your writing. interviewer voice can you tell us a little bit about the process behind the scenes? like are you and outline guy or do you wing it. do you write in microsoft word or some other program. are there certain things you keep in the back of your mind about the characters as you write. etc

oh thank you :’) i really don’t have much Of a process quite honestly, i just kinda go!! typically i do write fics in order, only pretty rarely do i start with one scene further along into the story and then go back and build around it (ive done this with one im working on rn and its kinda gotten me stuck so……idk how people do that consistently 😭) i’ve dabbled in outlines but i usually end up thinking of something While i’m writing and just adding it in at that time since im on the doc anyways…then i never go back and add it to the outline, so the outlines always get abandoned. most of my planning and conceptualizing happens in the tumblr dm’s with em @lesbianrobin tbh!! and i use google docs <3 there’s probably like. at least 100 unfinished fics in my google docs <3 as for keeping certain things in mind, i really just try to adhere to whichever canon im focused on (which is usually Mostly actual canon with a little tweaks like making hopper alive and in hawkins post s3 or building off canon like with details i made up about steve’s life) and try to remember the characters canonical voices. sometimes if im having trouble i’ll watch a clip or two and just try to remind myself of the cadence that characters talk in. and i just kinda vibe <3

Omg I saw your post about finishing writing a duel that took three months to finish and honestly SAME 😭. I’m in the middle of writing fics too but I always lose motivation once I have to finally write the duel in the chapter. Idk how you do it but that’s amazing that you finally did it lol. I know I’ve been avoiding them and just continue writing the plot before anything else. It will catch up to me tho… someday… xD

Jokes aside, thanks! But as much as certain card interactions have frustrated me over time (and continue to frustrate me), the truth is, there is no continuing the plot without finishing the duel first where my stories are concerned, because the duels in my stories, in the chapters that have any, are the plot. I usually stuff them with so much introspection and plot-heavy interaction between the participants that I couldn't continue with the scene that's supposed to follow after even if I wanted to. In that way, I kinda shackle myself to whichever duel is currently plot-relevant until it's done. And sometimes, that's not too much of a problem, but in the current WIP... o o f. Save to say, I picked some tricky decks to figure out and have a LOT of plot on my hands. On the upside, sticking it out and writing intricate duels is usually worth it because it makes the story feel more like something that's actually part of the 5Ds universe. (And I didn't need my sanity, anyway, ha. haha. hahahahaha.) Having an extremely detailed duel outline with all the stats (plus occasional plot remarks to go along with certain card plays) certainly helps, though.

For what it's worth, I wish you lots of luck with whatever duel might currently be looming over your fic, haha. May you find all the motivation, energy, and concentration you need to see it through.
