@thetarttfuldickhead's tags just making me want to cry and to hug Roy (especially contrasted with Ted's squirrelly jumping around during his first session, you know? *sniff*):
#forever losing my mind over the look on roy's face here#so goddamned vulnerable#reinforced by the fact that he's sitting down and dr sharon is standing#like that'd be perfectly normal for anyone else waiting for the doctor to arrive#but here it very much feels like A Choice#both from a doylist perspective but also form a watsonian one#roy sitting down as a (potentially subconscious) sign that he is - in a way - surrendering to this#is open to it and willing to do the work#even if it scares him#i have never wanted to hug roy more#or been prouder of him#and the way dr sharon smiles?#she is so very very kind#maybe roy x therapy was the real ship otp all along

Sun and Moon as Two Broken, Overcompensating Parts of a Whole
I think treating Sun and Moon as opposing coping methods in the same person/body could be an interesting slant to the Daycare Attendant. Where Moon is the part of the DCA that needs them to stop, to rest, they can't keep going on like this. And Sun is the part of the DCA that can't stop no matter what, that has to keep things together, that can't let them rest because the moment they relax everything will fall apart. The need for rest vs the need for progress, acted out in two personalities in one body. Neither are fully right, and neither are fully wrong. They can't give up and succumb to their circumstances (Moon), but they can't keep burning themselves out trying to shove broken pieces back together (Sun). And actually, both are making what the other needs a hostile option. Sun needs to rest, but he can't because the moment he does, Moon will shove him down forever. Moon needs the drive to keep going, but Sun is actively burning them out and making it so excruciating that Moon can't even consider trying. Since neither can reach true peace solely with their own methods, they overcompensate with their faulty coping mechanisms and spiral almost past the point of no return.
That's why merging into Eclipse finally gave them peace. Because together, they have the ability to rest, take things calmly and slowly, not succumb but allow space to breathe. Whereas apart, they literally split at the seams; Sun will forever keep trying to run and Moon will forever keep trying to stop. Crucially, because both are a part of a whole--they'll never be able to operate on their own entirely because they each need the other to be their whole self. Which is literally what Eclipse is. Yin and Yang slotted together.
(This post is a mix of speculation and ideas for how the DCA works in a narrative. It's not meant to be a lore analysis or 100% canon-accurate, just to work from a story perspective.)

while society emphasises success and competitiveness, our reality often involves a significant absence of drive and motivation. it’s hard to explain to others why we don't care about climbing the ladder when they’re racing to the top. it’s even harder to explain to ourselves, I think
I still distinctly remember my German teacher starting a whole ass rant when I told her I had no dreams or goals in life lol
i think I talked about this previously, it’s not that we don’t understand the importance of those achievements; more so that the internal drive to pursue them is missing. there's a lot of pressure put on us, since our society is fixated on success and competitiveness, and I think it should be mentioned that underachievement ≠ inadequacy
I read that the best thing to do is setting those personal goals for yourself and ticking them off when accomplished to get that sense of purpose. but honestly, has that worked out for anyone?
I heard that working with a good therapist who understands szpd can be helpful. I heard that support groups are apparently a thing, too
but I think the best thing is to work towards acceptance. no drugs can fix us, no amount of therapy will either so, at some point, we'll have to learn to live with who we are. being different doesn't mean we're worse, or our lives lesser. but we first have to accept that we aren't like other people, and I don't think we should hold ourselves up to the same standards if we don't want to, either

Whenever we talk about beta mer darling and octomer Azul, i feel like we're scientists narrating a marine life documentary ahshdjfnnf
"Now, the lonely octopus mermaid uses his camouflage to lurk, following his potential mate. Cecaelias are one of the smartest species of the ocean, and even with his clumsiness, this one will not stop until getting his ideal partner-"
-Cuts to mer darling-
"-A lonely beta mermaid, that has not interest in her suitors, regardless of species. Beta mermaids can be very hostile, even to potential mates, even if it tires them out."
Omg imagine it's researcher and filmmaker Rook with you as his assistant, and for each episode he quite literally transforms you into said creature (merfolk/beastfolk/fae/etc) just so the subject he's filming (Azul, Jade, Floyd, Leona, Ruggie, Jack, Malleus, Lilia, etc) will be more enticed to fuck you for ✨ 𝓈𝒸𝒾𝑒𝓃𝒸𝑒 ✨ you've tried to decline numerous times, but Rook always pays you so handsomely and he rescues you when certain creatures (ahem Azul ahem) try to keep you forever. I imagine Rook films you for the entirety of the pregnancy, so you're forced to spend the gestation period with said mer/beastman/fae until you give birth and can (hopefully) escape. But maybe there comes a time where you can't escape or Rook isn't able to rescue and protect you and so now you're trapped with the one who thinks of you as a treasured mate. >:)

yeah no the agent orange thing is actually wild - my grandpa was drafted to vietnam and was exposed to it, which gave him health problems later in life that he ended up passing away from BUT the military insisted that he hadn't been exposed for a full ten years after he passed until they finally admitted a few months ago that yeah actually he had been exposed and our family was supposed to have been receiving financial compensation this whole time but they just. hadn't done that
and that's the way the US government treated an actual american who was exposed - it's so so much worse from the vietnamese perspective
yeah im reading the wikipedia article and it says
the Vietnamese Red Cross estimates that up to one million people were disabled or have health problems as a result of exposure to Agent Orange. The United States government has described these figures as unreliable, while documenting cases of leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma, and various kinds of cancer in exposed U.S. military veterans.
which, considering how very very neutral wikipedia tries to be, reads like a loud blaring "THEY WERE LYING THROUGH THEIR TEETH"
also tho the part that gets me is like. i never knew about "herbicidal warfare" in general, that's....so evil. like, we were not even just using this weapon on soldiers (which would already be fucked up), we were trying to destroy the entire country itself? the land and animals and plants so even those who werent exposed are starving and destabilized??? just indiscriminately raining down death over vast swathes of land? what the FUCK.
that...genuinely sounds as bad as hiroshima and nagasaki to me, morally speaking. just...slower.

The way that the Suspicious Object Detector works is pretty vague, acting more like a Pokedex than anything, but I like to think that it's sort of a telepathy machine.
It gathers information that's impossible to observe from the outside, not to mention things that its recipients haven't disclosed to anyone before (Raffina's pouch, the doll that Schezo made by hand, etc). Sure, it senses energy as well, but the detailed stuff has to come from the person's thoughts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With that interpretation, then, why would Sig's profile just be "he likes bugs"? Other characters suggested much more self-awareness than that, like Suketoudara knowing he comes across as a nuisance, for example.
Wellllll, Angst Headcanon Extraordinaire that I am, I do have an idea.
At this point in the story, Sig is decidedly Not Himself. But considering that Risukuma's episode takes place before he meets up with Ringo, it's likely that Sig hasn't been like this for very long, yet. That part is important, because the longer his power builds up, the less like himself he becomes, until he eventually discards his name entirely.
So, if he's still hanging in there, trying to cling to a sense of identity even while he's largely being piloted by his demonic powers...
Perhaps that's the one trait he decided to latch onto as his lifeline, due to its simplicity, and it's been repeated in his head so many times that it's the only thing the detector can pick up. For all we know, it could be the only thing he remembers by now.
Because it's not like there isn't anything else it could pick up on, if we use the other characters as a template. It could've easily referenced other things that tend to crop up in his bios; the way he always moves at his own pace, his ability to fall asleep standing with his eyes open, or y'know... the fact that his eye and arm are red? And that he doesn't care about it??
Tumblr media
Risukuma has to notice his arm for himself, but it's such a standout feature that you'd think the Suspicious Object Detector of all things would mention it. Especially since it's most likely the thing it was sensing a strong reading from in the first place.
For Sig's thoughts to be blocking all of that out, he must be trying really hard, huh?

Our entire system has a bit of an issue with this ourselves, so here's a kind of niche positivity post
It's okay if your inner world is hard to access/visualise. It's okay if your inner world lacks realistic structure - if the layouts don't make sense, if everything is both infinitely spread out but also close together, if the way things look changes each time you check, etc. It's okay if you struggle to visualise first person, if you end up visualising in any of many kinds of third person. It's okay if these things change over time
If you want to work on changing these things, that's fine too. But it's fine to just accept them as well. Everyone is unique, and experiences things in their own way

also this isnt really proper shade at larian or anything and the writing of this game is SAURE good so dont take it this way but.
i sure do wish. Minthara was not villain batted as hard as she was. Her being locked to "evil" runs and being mutually exclusive with several party members. Her being nothing more than a miniboss for your average player- who does not even know shes a potential party member! Her being so chronically unloved by the community because... shes the "evil" companion. Hell, even the amount of people saying frankly really edgy shit about killing her or hurting her completely unprompted lmao. Like I genuinely think shes been pretty unfairly demonized both by the community and by the meta of just like... the game itself because she's really actually..... kind of, dare I say, sweet? if you get to know her. ugh.
#also if i had two nickles. shes sylvanas all over again lads i fear#idk obviously larian handles her character much better than wow ever handled sylvanas but its genuinely like#kind of eerie how similar they are and how hard they where both villain batted considering how evil they actually are#ESP compared to their male counterparts#like i would argue that neither of them are any more evil- and likely are even less evil- than a lot of the men in the same game that#are not villain batted at all.#like every character in warcraft is a war criminal so sylvanas is hardly uniquely evil on that front#and i have a hard time buying that minthara is anymore inherently evil than astarion lol#idk again larian handles trauma much better and it feels... inauthentic to accuse them of not treating minthara well because shes#traumatized. thats def not the argument im making here but it IS really sad to relate to / find catharsis in another traumatized elf#only for her to be. villain batted just like the last one :/#idk. its just a bummer.#like again thankfully its not a thesis of larians like. karlach and shadowheart and laezel are all beautiful and wonderful examples of like#traumatized women allowed to be angry and validated for being angry#BUT im selfish haha i want my bestie minthara to be able to have a happy ending w the rest of us and i dont want to see her demonized for#idk being a traumatized angry woman like!! it seems outta place for that to be the message but#whatever im rambling ive lost the plot#my post

The Real Gundam?
I “love” how I’ve counted no less than four or five episodes of Witch From Mercury where you suddenly have assholes going “OH LOOK WEAKLINGS THE REAL GUNDAM STARTS HERE.” once it’s finished. That’s like basically a third of the series already aired, guys. The “Real Gundam” has been here for ages, and honestly the brutality on display on WfM is all the more potent in part because it’s been used sparingly and carefully. Like, SEEDs poppin’ people might be technically more graphic in terms of people dying, but it’s impossible to take seriously because it gets ridiculous.
I mean, that’s also ignoring the fact that Gundam has cast such a wide net that Gundam can literally be anything and in any tone. G Gundam was an over-the-top kung fu battle tournament where the main protagonist is comedically tortured with pizza in the first episode. Turn A Gundam spends plenty of time using its mech to help with laundry and watching a drunk idiot get into a barrel to float to Earth through space. The Build Fighter series is patterned after sports anime. Gundam Wing is a fever dream.
That’s not even getting into the stuff like SD Gundam, various video games (remember the JRPG on the PS2?), and other assorted media.
And yet, somehow, it’s the Gundam series that stars a female protagonist who is in a relationship with another woman, a series that has attracted new viewers to a franchise that, lets face it, has kind of grown stagnant creatively since it retreated back into UC after Unicorn was a success. Gotta be gatekeeping, I guess.
And I mean, for fuck’s sakes, its not like Gundam is some hidden gem or long-lost series. It’s basically similar to goddamn Marvel or Final Fantasy or whatever. It’s mainstream, people pick it up from osmosis, they’re aware of its existence and that people die in it.

Hey, so...
Does anyone remember this post I made recently?
.
.
.
I made some art for it...
If you wanna see it...
Here it is:
Tumblr media
I'M SO MAD AT MYSELF IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SURVIVING THE MANSION BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE UNTIL AFTER I FINISHED IT AAAGGH
...Aside from that little oopsie, though, I'm actually really proud of how the logo came out? I based the font off a style called "Micro 5 Charted". Thank goodness I was using graph paper!
I'm not sure if that Kanji is correct; Google Translate doesn't seem to like the word "oni" or "stick", especially together, so I spelled out the Romanji in the English box and then tried to copy the characters Google offered me as closely as possible. I think I'd be more surprised if I got the Kanji correct, honestly.
Henry Stickmin title screens usually have two different fonts for the verb and the noun, and I thought about trying to make "Mansion" look like an actual house, but that made my brain hurt to much to conceptualize, so I stuck with different colored fonts. Hmm, that clock sure is there. I wonder what it means gets hit by a bus
-----
Anyway, here's some theoretical scenarios of what the main gameplay would look like! This one stars General Hubert Galeforce and some other guy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Option 1: Shoot
Result: The monster hears you move as soon as you pull your gun from its holster. No time to defend yourself.
FAILURE (DiE!)
Option 2: Backup
Result: Your radio refuses to work, even though it was just fine before you entered the mansion. The monster waits until you've realized this, then goes for your throat.
FAILURE (No one will hear your screams...)
Option 3: Time Out
Result: The monster does not hear you and goes into a separate room, out of sight and out of mind. Galeforce survives... for now. But what was that thing...?
-----
I don't know how feasible it would be, but I imagine this would be a cross between typical RPG Maker-styled games (pixels, speech boxes with pictures of the characters, moving around a set floor plan, puzzle solving, etc) and typical Henry Stickmin-styled game play (cutscenes, choices, possible interactivity [grabbing items/bios], the occasional quick time event, etc) (voice acting would be a stretch). Most of the gameplay, like exploring the mansion, puzzle solving, and running/fighting the monster, would be RPG style, and then occasionally switch into a cutscene that requires you to make a choice; usually with just one correct answer but possibly others that could result in diverging dialogue/interaction/paths/endings? Something to think about.
Anyway, Galeforce! Poor man has no idea what he almost walked into, haha. I experimented with perspective and limb placement here, which was exhausting but also a lot of fun! Dynamics are hard with stick figures, but considering that they're they only character medium I've ever been decent at, I made it work.
And the Oni... I tried to give it some sort of anatomy, but quickly realized that I do not have the skills to pay those bills. I opted for a more of a shadowy figure looking thing with a big smile instead (you can see some of the lines where I tried to make it have arms, I think). I opted for Ao Oni's purple-y blue color scheme verses HetaOni's gray alien look. Back in the day of fan made Ao Oni games, people would usually try to put their own unique spin on the Oni sprite, with HetaOni's being the most unique I ever saw (keep in mind, it was one of the few designs I ever saw, so there might be cooler ones out there, who knows). In theory, a game called Sutikku Oni would use a stick figure shaped monster, but with my current art skills, that would just look like a normal stick person with a big head (look! Geoffrey Plumb's cousin!). I think the less we see, the better; all good horror games know when to leave things to the imagination!
-----
I also made a second one, featuring my boy Dave Panpa!
...Dave, I'm so sorry... *MAKES HIM PEEP THE HORROR*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Option 1: Call for Help
Result: You call for help...
FAILURE (...but nobody came.)
Option 2: Run
Result: You tense your muscles in preparation to run. The monster is faster.
FAILURE (YoU... wOn'T... eScApE...!)
Option 3: Pretend to be a Piano
Result: Frozen with fear in front of the piano, it's all you can do to hope the monster thinks you're also a piano (a sopping wet piano, but still). It's deadly quiet. You can hardly breathe, and you're afraid to. The monster stares at you for an uncomfortably long time, before walking away, out of sight and out of mind. You stay still a little longer before collapsing to the ground. Dave Panpa survives... for now. How on Earth did that work? Or... did that thing let you live out of pity...?
-----
UGH the piano! Pianos are so hard to draw! Luckily, I had an almost head on reference that I was able to use for the first picture. For the above view shot, I had to do some wild guessing. The red stuff near Dave's head in the second picture is the red stuff he was referring to. Is it blood? Paint? Something else? Who knows! But as we all know, any self respecting Ao Oni fan game needs a piano puzzle!
I imagine Dave was dragged along for the ride when the Toppats decided to find the treasure of the mansion (or something to that degree), fully intending to leave him there to die if there was, in fact, a monster inside. Poor Dave... Maybe there could be an ending where amends are made? Or maybe not...
I mostly put the smile on the monster's shadow as a means of showing that, indeed, it is the monster, but now I'm wondering if the monster's mouth glows or something? Hot fires of Hell, delivered right to you! Can you beat the heat?
-----
Thank you all for coming to my fixation ramble that absolutely no one else except me finds interesting! Any thoughts before you go?
(A cricket chirps, then leaves because it's in the wrong conference room)
...Yeah, I figured.
