welcome the the sixteenth fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.

“No, really, he’d love to,” Lance said into the phone, just as Keith pressed the button for the kettle to start heating up.

Those words were enough to raise Keith’s suspicions just a tad. He shot Lance an inquisitive glance while opening the cabinet to retrieve his box of morning tea, but his husband was the picture of innocence, flipping casually through a Home Depot catalog they had received in the mail yesterday.

“Oh, definitely. If you need someone to paint your insides white, Keith’s your man.”

Keith dropped his box on the counter, tea bags spilling out onto the granite.

this one made me LAUGH. out LOUD. it’s domestic and fluffy and FUNNY dear god, like it’s such a lance thing to do and such an objectively funny prank that i just!! literally just typing this makes the urge to reread it too great my hand has been forced.

one of my fave vld tropes EVER is lance being whipped and then equally as furious that he’s attracted to keith at all. it’s endlessly funny to me. and then keith being the eyebrows raised, not surprised one??? gets me every time. also keith is a massive sweetheart in this fic and i love him

“A pillow fort sleepover!” Lance cried out, leaping up with such alacrity that Pidge had to grab her laptop to prevent it from sliding to the floor.

“No way, we're not—” Pidge stopped and blinked, exchanging a glance with Hunk, then looking back at Lance again. “... Oh.” She evidently had not been expecting such a tame suggestion. “Okay.”

Or, Lance is bored out of his mind and decides to organize a sleepover with the squad. Nonsense ensues, and Lance works through some confusing emotions—particularly those involving a certain mullet-haired team leader.

okay there are too many good things about this fic i cannot choose which to highlight, and so i will mention them all. ahem: a) lance is a ray of sunshine who regularly uses his power of cuteness to his advantage, b) adorable team bonding, c) shiro is a dorky nerd, d) HEALTHY LANCE AND ALLURA COMMUNICATION, e) krolia and romelle have actual characters, f) lance has allergies which isn’t rly important but he gives me a vibe that he’s allergic to several things and it’s very validating to see it in fic, g) lance validation and feeling expression for the piece of shit game show episode, h) observant lance!! and i) literally the most painful and necessary and well-written klance fight i’ve read in a while! hurt badly but was resolved wonderfully 10/10

4. Terminal Velocity by @speakswords [GORE WARNING]

The only fate worse than being tortured to death is watching, helpless, while the person you love most takes your place.

this is one of my fave vld fics of all time. although fair warning it is very violent for a good chunk of time. the story is EXCELLENT, the entire thing will have u biting ur nails in terrified anticipation and i mean that literally. whole time i was gagged. at the edge of my seat. AND i have several specific lines screenshotted bc the pure fucking devotion and care knocked me out of the water

5. you and me are cosmic dust by Yuu_chi

Knowing that your team loves and trust you no matter what and believing it are two very different things.

i LOVE keith angst. i know this fandom is very langst heavy and honestly i am too but sometimes keith angst is so so good. and this fic is one of them!! excellent read and features observant lance as well. OH and there’s a little sprinkling of suave keith in here too lol

36.   your favorite trope

So if we're learning one thing here today, it's that I am highly indecisive. God, I love so many tropes. I think it'd be easier to ask which tropes I don't like, I guess?

But I definitely love a good slow-burn, a good friends-to-lovers or enemies-to-lovers or strangers-to-whatever-to-lovers with everyone suffering from being painfully in love. I guess I just very much love reading about them falling in love and being dumb about not noticing that it's mutual lol. Yeah I think that's it, something like mutual, very lovesick pining.

39. a trope you would like to see (more) in the fandom

Oh idk, I don't think I have enough of an overview to really say something I missing, but as a never-fully-recovered former emo kid I'd love to see some more of the stuff the MCR fandom had for example, like idk... vampires obviously, but also ghost stuff or like tragic angsty historical fics or idk. I guess just some dark stuff? For funsies lol.

41. How do you choose the fic you read

Firstly it's gotta be Wilmon-centric, then I look at the word count, and compare that to how much time I have lol, then I read the summary and idk? I guess either the writing style needs to catch me immediately or it needs to be some original premise. Or a retelling of one of my favorite scenes, that also catches me lol. So I guess I just base what I want to read on the summary. Oh, or a trusted mutual/friend recommends it!

46. did you stay awake up to an veeeery unreasonable hour to finish a fanfic

Yeeeeeeep, very much do that, probably too often. Sometimes my eyes will be falling shut, but I tell myself I gotta push through, there's only x chapters left lol

Yes WIP!!!! I love WIPs for soooo many reasons, most of all because it's such a fun journey and because the waiting just kind of heightens the excitement for the next chapter!

Tell me about an underrated girl!!!

I cannot pick just one and I've covered most of the popular marauders characters but Charity and Aurora have been on my mind a lot lately so you get a 2 for 1!!!

Charity

I looooove Charity so much, I think she's a Hufflepuff but while she displays a lot of the typical traits I refuse to let her get the Pandora treatment and purely be a whimsical fairy dream girl. I think Charity is the kindest of Snape's Gang but if you get on her bad side you fucking knoowwww. She's optimistic but knows when hope is lost, especially as she gets older knowing how much things fell apart, so she sees the good in people but is also so aware of the bad. Her friendship with Aurora is so precious to me, she wants her to be the best version of herself and Charity is the 🥰 to Aurora's 😐. Charity's relationship with Igor is partly based on emotions, I think Charity definitely loves the idea of loving Igor, of having this gentle relationship with someone who is only known for being tough and bad which I think comes into her optimism, but I don't think in canon she ever really gets the chance to love Igor, but in an AU I could see that happening. I think that the first time Charity ever even considered using an unforgivable is in retaliation or defence when someone hurts one of her friends, if she actually used one I would say it is defending Aurora. I could totally see Charity being friends with some of the Gryffindors, especially Mary!

Aurora

My precious Ravenclaw Aurora AAHHHHHH!!! I've found out that I really love Ravenclaws recently, a lot of my faves are from that house. She is the type of quiet that can settle into the background but those who are aware of her find her deeply uncomfortable. I think how you feel about her is like an arc of "nah she's chill" to "she's....unsettling" back to "nah she's chill". She sees the world for what it is and chooses her actions selfishly but not in a negative way, she will always be her own priority however two people can come close. Firstly is Charity, her bestie, the person who can make her smile like no one else, who can crack her shell. Aurora is patient, which I think is needed in her friendship with Charity who is like bbrrrrrrrrr and Aurora sometimes has to wait for her to collect her thoughts but she finds it endearing, she loves it. I think Charity brings out parts of Aurora that would have been left deep inside, both platonic and romantic (I need to post more about cosmicbunny). Her relationship with Severus is the opposite, they are comfortable in the silence but she allows herself to become the rambler because he likes it. They are perhaps more equal in their back and forth. They can understand each other without speaking and know what the other needs, she never feels that she needs to be anything other than Aurora with Sev. She is the most distant from the Death Eaters I think, she is fully aware of what some of her friends do and what they are like, but she stands by and does not necessarily partake. She would defend them if asked but she's comfortable making her own path once they leave Hogwarts. I think Aurora rooming with Pandora could be so fun if they're both Ravenclaws like the vibes ugghhhhh yes

I have so many other thoughts about these two both together (platonic and romantic) but also separately. We all know I love a bit of seabunny but Charity and just Charity could destroy me.

This will likely get long, so it's going under a cut. Also it will very likely get chaotic. There will be lots of ships, a variety of characters and lots of crossing over. don't hate me if your faved ship isn't here... I also will likely just list all the canon ones down at the bottom and not delve into hc's about them.

omg now i have to try and not forget anyone LOL. so we're gonna start at the beginning.

Starting with an obvious Alex Cabot x Olivia Benson:

these two had chemistry, they flirted, they had lingering looks and touches. They had some form of relationship over s2-5. They definitely slept together, and had a lot of conflicting emotions as they tried to figure things out. I'd like to think that they were dating and in the midst of talking about making things official/taking it to the next level right before Alex got shot. They had no choice but to end it to keep Alex safe and by the time she got back in s11, things were different, weird, Alex wasn't the same person she was before and wasn't in the same place. They do try and go on a couple of dates after Alex has settled, but it's more of a "lets get this friendship back on track" because woof the girls be *fighting*

Casey Novak x Elizabeth Donnelly

it wasn't what either of them expected, when Casey transfers into SVU Liz is her direct supervisor. It's not *wrong* but it's also a little on the shady side when it comes to breaking the rules. Which is exactly what pulls them together more. I think Liz sees a lot of herself when she was a baby prosecutor in Casey. She wants to protect her, esp after Alex has been "killed". This is proven by not once, but TWICE Liz steps down from the bench to defend Casey in court. They're fiery, it's a mentor/men-tee relationship that likely spurred into a sexual one somewhere along the way. It's also VERY likely that Liz helped Casey figure out her sexuality. Liz was married before, but is in the age range that gay marriage was wrong when she was growing up. Casey we know was brought up very catholic. So homegirl doesn't even know what's going on in he head, and after Charlie, she's not sure she wants to date a man again. Liz helps her figure that shit out, and likely guides her through a couple of sexual experiences and they kinda keep things going from there on. THEN in s9 we obviously see the absolute demise of their relationship. I still believe that Casey only returned to the DA's office after hearing that Liz retired. BUT, Liz had her called before the bar to SAVE her career and license (as McCoy earlier said he would yank her license if she fucked up again in Blinded)

It was supposed to be/actually was more casual with Liz, but because she was Casey's mentor, Casey valued her opinion of her a lot higher than she would have otherwise. Their emotional side of their relationship was very foggy and lines scrambled because of that kinda thing, if that makes sense?

Casey Novak x Melinda Warner

definitely dated. Melinda wants to protect her girl, they're bad ass crime fighter, break a few rules to do what's right. There are a few cases/episodes where you can tell they're definitely hanging out. I like to think that it had pretty good potential, but they just figured they'd be better off as friends. And again, casey disappears after her suspension.

Elizabeth Donnelly x Lena Petrovsky

you cannot tell me these two have not fucked

Chester Lake & Casey Novak

these two didn't have anything happen sexually, but he was definitely crushing on her (can't blame him) and i think she accepted that dinner offer, but made it clear it was on a platonic base only. I think these two had such intertwined arcs across s9 that they definitely hung out a few times after work and I like to think that Casey goes to visit him in prison every couple of months (at one point i had a fic idea about that but i can't remember details now. LOL. maye it will return to me)

Dean Porter x Olivia Benson

While i don't think they actually ever managed to fuck. I really think they had the best chemistry out of all the toxic dick choices that were available to her.

Dana Lewis x Olivia Benson

They fucked your honour. Even Calvin knows they have "this your girlfriend?" like.... cmon...

Alex Cabot x Casey Novak

the ever favourite and popular ship despite only having one episode together. Now, in the "real world" these two likely would have known each other prior to alex's death, they would've worked in the same building, same social circles, hell they would've been at school at the same time. They're technically sharing the da's office in s12/13. Which is the prime time for their relationship. Alex is back in NYC, she doesn't really know how to be herself, she's not sure if she can/wants to do the job that almost killed her. She's unsure of herself, on shaky legs persay. Casey's waiting out her suspension, unsure of what to do, and if it's worth it to keep fighting. They somehow run into each other and that's when it all starts. They're both lonely, a little lost, don't feel like themselves anymore kinda thing. They find solace in each other, comfort, a sense of belonging. This is one of my fave ships for Casey, because it truly does have amazing potential. They date, it's serious, likely living together. I think they stick it out when Alex goes to the congo, but when she leaves the da's office again to do vigilante shit, they break up. Not that Casey doesn't support her decisions, they just know they have to go their separate ways.

Rafael Barba x Rita Calhoun

obviously they go on this list. They are a divorced couple who were never married. Whether they dated in college, or shortly after being back in NYC, it happened. Hell maybe it did actually get serious and that's why they know each other *so* well. But they just don't quite fit together long term. Rita spoils too much, Barba finds it overwhelming. (however when things open up to poly, I think they could definitely work) They remain really good friends and I'd honeslty believe they have a "50 and still single" pact kinda thing and are known to still hit each other up for sex because they know it's good and there's no annoying legwork of having to pick up someone new.

Rita Calhoun x Olivia Benson

Now, these two were never going to be endgame and EVERYONE knows it. It was never even a relationship. A couple nights here and there when they were both stressed and needed a relief. It's very likely far before Noah comes along, and Rita is very upfront about her views on children. It's more that they're friends who Olivia enjoys doing different things with that like, Cassidy won't do with her

Rafael Barba x Sonny Carisi

in the world where things make sense, Rafael would have likely been mentoring Carisi through his final year at law school, letting him sit second chair or do more help on the law side of case work with him. One ep of that was stupid, it shouldve been way more. I like to think that somewhere in one of those late nights, a couple glasses of scotch, there's admittance of "you know i don't actually hate you" "oh i know, you tease out of admiration" kinda thing that leads to a little more. I can see them actually dating, but I can also see it just being casual, cause Sonny still has heart eyes for amanda the entire time. Whatever they have going on obviously drops off the face of the earth when Barba leaves.

Rita Calhoun x Amanda Rollins

now this one, is a handful of hook ups and nothing more. Amanda is too chaotic for Rita, their worlds also don't collide very well. Amanda's more likely to be found smoking in some dive bar and avoid the high end places that Rita likes. I like to think that this happens somewhere between Amanda x Nick, and early s17 when Amanda finds out she's pregnant. i DO also believe that Rita kinda keeps her under her wing a bit, encouraging her to cut off her family, let her know if she ever needs help with things (and of course amanda is too stubborn to ever ask for that) but in moments where like, kim has fucked her over, yet again. Amanda finds some anonymous donation and it's like, this unspoken thing between them because you also can't say no to Rita.

William Dodds x Olivia Benson

again, they fucked your honour. and even if there were never officially "dates" they would regularly use each other as plus ones to events that they had to go to for work.

Rafael Barba & Olivia Benson

it never happened, but i had to include it. It was a constant "will they wont they" likely even with money down on it from the squad. They deeply care for each other, love each other, but can never quite figure it out. They're also both so fucking stubborn and there are times when they both have sticks up their asses and hold grudges, neither ever willing to admit defeat or apologize and they know that wouldn't be a healthy relationship.

Rita Calhoun x Casey Novak

my beloved.

these two are a ship that i will die for. It's one of if not the most solid relationship Casey has ever had. They might be endgame. While there's a chance that they would have crossed paths earlier on, they don't really start to pay attention to each other until post suspension/alex leaving.

They might have a case against each other, Casey might be finding prosecution a little stale for herself now. She wants something more. She was so intertwined with alex before that now that she's off pursuing something more, she feels the need to do the same, even if it's within the legal world. Enter Rita, where she can learn about working defence, but not necessarily criminal defence, ya know?

They end up complimenting each other super well, it's the prime golden retriever x black cat, and the smol/tall vibes, which is always hilarious because casey has like, four inches on rita. So i see them in a long term serious relationship.

Kat Tamin x Pippa Cox

Pippa's nervous post hank bs, simply returning to NYC is hard enough, but she finds this solace in Kat. She wasn't around for the whole thing so she doesn't have the subconscious judgment that a lot of other people have. Kat's great with the kids, she's got lots of energy and she's absolutely going to *worship* pippa. Pippa's also likely going to wean her onto a healthier eating style cause Kat is known to crush two pizza's and a litre of pop for dinner kinda thing. Endgame material.

Peter Stone & Sonny Carisi

now, these two haven't directly hooked up. it's not Peter's style. BUT, they've definitely had a few threesomes together with another girl. there's no doubt in my mind.

Kat Tamin x Grace Muncy

these two have hooked up. kat is a daddy. grace is a brat. it just works. they were probably casual fuck buddies/fwb's for a while.

Grace Muncy & Tonie Churlish

they've either hooked up, dated, or mutually pined for each other up until Grace left. I'm in the midst of rewatching Grace's eps so I'll get back to you. lol

Joe Velasco x Grace Muncy

i'm not saying i ship it. I'm saying that these two have this teasing, bantery sibling ISH relationship, and they're likely each other's wingman's more often than not. BUT, there was probably at least one super drunk night that they don't really remember but they woke up together and basically never talk about it.

Samantha Maroun & Rita Calhoun

I can lowkey see a couple of dates here, but it ending up not leading any further than friends. They've both got really good style, Sam wears a lot of colour similar to rita, they probably shop together and i think they'd get along really well.

Honorable mention to Joe Velasco x Amanda Rollins

because if they had met any earlier? they would've hooked up. even just once. they had good chemistry when they did meet and I could see it happening, but she was obvi already with Carisi

I know I must be missing a couple. And there's probably characters I've forgotten about, or not included in this, or just don't have any thoughts about. Also not including any canon ones cause we all know the canon ones. There's also LOTS of other "omg they'd be best fucking friends" that i skipped over cause this was more relationship based. (like, casey, dodds, carisi, kat and grace all have chaotic golden retriever vibes)

Could potentially see Grace x Bobby(?) from OC being a thing, but i can't remember if he's got a gf/wife or not because I clearly don't pay attention when I watch that show lol.

Do you make your bed? —I do - or I try to, I feel better when it's done and it makes me feel like I can move on with my day 🫡 Exceptions are for when I'm late, but then I would do it before going to bed!

Favourite number? — 5 (but 3 or 7 also work) (I like odd numbers in general)

What's your job? — I quit my job a few weeks ago sooo at the moment unemployed fanfic writer I guess 🤠

If you could go back to school, would you? — I think so! I would love to go back to study something I really like without the pressure of earning the degree since I already have one, and then take the time to actually learn and discuss the topics rather than to focus on grades.

Can you parallel park? — In theory, yes, I can. In practice... maybe? I don't drive often, so when I have to park I try to make it as easy as I can for myself (so not parallel park)

Do you think aliens are real? — Yes, I think it'd be quite sad if we were the only form of life in the universe

Can you drive a manual car? — Yes!

What's your guilty pleasure? — Cheesy romance and romcoms, I'm down baaaad for it, especially the 90s ones

Tattoos? — Not yet, mostly because I'm too indecisive on what to get and where haha

Favourite color? — Red, then shades of purples, blues and greens :)

Favourite type of music? — Taylor Swift definitely, but otherwise I love pop-rock and instrumental/classical soundtracks from games and movies

Favourite childhood sport? — I had a complex relationship with sports as a kid so I don't think I had any really? But I loved to run around and play hide and seek if that counts lol

Do you talk to yourself? — Occasionally, when I need to "hear" the steps in a process or to guide myself through something step by step. Sometimes I do it when I'm in a very good mood too!

What movie(s) do you adore? — Oh! Lords of the Ring trilogy is my absolute fave of all time, then the Ghibli movies, Pride & Prejudice (2005), and I cannot think of others at the moment although I'm sure there's at least like 20 more haha

Coffee or tea? — Tea always, but in recent years I've learned to like coffee (although I love the smell more than the taste)

First thing you wanted to be growing up? — A teacher! And I'm kinda glad I didn't choose this path now 😬

Gege wrote that Yuuji is indecisive. What do you think going shopping is like with him, especially when he needs to buy stuff for himself. I also wonder what it's like going shopping with Sukuna, I suspect he's got opinions.

Aaaah yes I can relate to Yuuji :) Here are my ideas on how I imagine Yuuji and Sukuna when going shopping:

I think the way Yuuji dresses is rather cool. My guess is that he probably is inspired by his fave characters from manga or anime or the movies he likes to watch. So I headcanon that Yuuji has a general idea of what kind of outfit he wants to get when he goes shopping. So he is super enthusiastic when he sees a stack of clothes that fit that idea and hurries over to that section of the store. But just when sweet Yuuji is beaming at a red hoodie he wants to get, he spots a yellow one... and now he has a problem ;) He can't afford both, but how could he pick one color!!?? The same thing happens when he wants to buy new sneakers and has too many options. Yuuji can waste hours in a clothing store, unable to make a decision. It's just like when someone asks him if he likes cats better or dogs. It's impossible for him to only choose one!! But if you are with Yuuji and you tell him which hoodie etc. you like the most, he will smile gratefully at you and buy that one. He loves the thought of wearing something you picked for him.

When you go shopping for your clothes with Yuuji, it will be the same. He cannot really help you make a decision, because frankly, he thinks you look hot in everything!! And he would feel so bad for implying one outfit looks better on you than the other because wouldn't that mean one of them doesn't make you look pretty?? He cannot tell you that!! He definitely will have opinions when you go shopping with him. Sukuna likes to be in control, so he won't just be a passive shopping partner who smiles and nods. HE picks clothes for you that he thinks will look good on you and then makes you model every outfit for him while his gaze trails scrutinizingly over your body. He has good taste, though, so usually, you will end up with an outfit that looks really pretty. So, if you are someone who is indecisive, Kuna is an amazing shopping partner. But if you have a good idea of what YOU want, it can lead to some bickering. Sukuna doesn't fight fair, so he will use all his charm and his flirty nature to get you to do what he wants. How can you resist when sexy Sukuna steps up really close behind you and kisses your neck and whispers to you how beautiful you look in the dress he picked and how he can already imagine how cute you will look when he bends you over a counter in that dress.

Also, I think Sukuna is the type who will just have a whole outfit delivered to you before a date. Including shoes, jewelry, and underwear. Of course, he knows your size! He knows everything! And that way you don't have to stress about what to wear, so he is really just taking good care of you, right?! (Personally, I would be grateful because I always have a hard time deciding what to wear)

I guess it depends on definition of angsty...I've definitely had some dramatic scenes close to the end (especially Sons of Love and Death and Even Death Won't Part Us Now), but I can't NOT have a happy ending. I guess the end of (Love Will See Us Through These) Dark Days is pretty bittersweet...but it's inspired by The Hunger Games so that was inevitable ;)

what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Just about everything, haha. I love having lots of drama along the way, but if it doesn't have a happy end, what's the point?

do you get hate on fics?

Only once; someone got mad because I included KnightRook in We Cannot Choose Our Fate rather than a CS baby. They apparently forgot the 'back' button on their browser was a thing.

do you write smut? if so, what kind?

Hell yeah. The more magic, the better. (also: the wetter, the better. put them together and you get mermaid smut. yes.) But mainly, I just like to do really feelz-y stuff.

Not really, but not because I don't like them or anything--I've just never really been inspired to (although there's an idea in the back of my mind involving a Community/OUAT crossover).

As far as things I started publishing...Untitled Monster Loving Fic is probably the only one. I have an idea for how I want it to go, but I kept getting stuck rewriting Killian's backstory so it's just been chilling.

Hmmm...Dialogue, maybe? That's at least what comes to me easiest. I've been told my worldbuilding is good but it could be better.

what are your writing weaknesses?

Probably descriptions. I can see things vividly in my head but that doesn't always make its way to the page (or, on the other side of that, I sometimes worry I'm too thorough in that regard and the details bog down the flow).

thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for fic?

Only if it's a language you're at least conversational in. Otherwise, be prepared to be called out by a native speaker.

I want to say I started a Sabrina, the Teenage Witch story when I was a kid, but never finished it. OUAT is the first one I've ever published anything for.

The first character I fell in love with: Probably Sheena

My ultimate favorite character: Kratos

Prettiest character: Definitely Raine, but even as a lesbian, I cannot deny that Kratos is very good-looking.

My most hated character: Kvar, and then Mithos is a character I love to hate because he's so fucked up.

My OTP: ToS is one of my gen fandoms, so I don't really like it for ship purposes. But my favorite ship is probably Kranna, thanks to all the awesome fan content that was made for this ship.

My NOTP: Once again, not too passionate about this one. But I'll go ahead and say Shelos. I DO ship them, but only unrequited Shelos because I think Sheena deserves better (and I want her to have a girlfriend, sue me). I also don't like Raine/Lloyd because I don't believe Raine would fall for him.

Favorite episode (moment): Oh my god, definitely Colette becoming an angel and Kratos betraying the party. What a way to raise the stakes and really gut the player. That part still gets to me.

Favorite season (act): I have a hard time choosing between acts 1 and 2. Act 1 is great because you have Kratos and you start to understand the horror of Colette's situation. Plus, I love Kratos and Lloyd's relationship. Act 2 is great because you know more about the world, the stakes are high, you get introduced to the rest of the main cast, and you get to explore Tethe'alla.

Least favorite season (act): Probably Act 3. I do like it, but the pacing gets out of control during the final act. So it is brought down.

Character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but I hate: Forcystus seems somewhat popular with the fandom, and I don't get it. Probably because we don't get enough time with him.

My 'you're a piece of trash, but you're still a fave' fave: Zelos, that's an easy one. Kratos also counts.

My 'beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this' fav: How could I not say Colette for this one? Hey game, can you please stop tormenting Colette FOR FIVE MINUTES?!

My 'they're kind of cute, and I lowkey ship them, but I'm not too invested' ship: Zelloyd. I get it, I really do. But I don't think that I can quite see it playing out. I'm also choosing Kratos, sorry Zelos. :/

Here are my takes that I couldn't fit:

Lloyd and Kratos are my favorite relationship; messy parent-child relationships are super interesting to me.

I'm not insanely passionate about Colloyd, but I do think it's cute. I can't see either of them being with anyone else, and I like the childhood friends-to-lovers angle a lot. They are adorkable all the way.

Sheena/Colette is awesome. People tearing down female characters to "prove" one of them is a better fit for the male lead pisses me off. And these arguments are almost always dripping with misogyny. That's one of the reasons why I ship Sheena and Colette (in addition to thinking they would be so cute together!).

#2: a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom

I'm not a top/bottom purist in the sense that I think MOST characters would be a switch if the situation calls for it but that being said I DO think NHS is too lazy to make the effort to top all that often. Like, straight up, I cannot see this man putting in EFFORT not even for sex so yeah that's my thought regarding that lol.

#7: what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

I can't really think of any MDZS characters that I hate because of fandom, though the way fandom sometimes talks about certain characters makes me want to chew cardboard because that would be slightly more interesting than some takes I have seen with mine own two eyes, but I CAN say that as a longtime Naruto fanfic writer, sometimes I just severely hate Tobirama when he's depicted in fic as this brilliant but oh so shy woobie of a man whose brother walks all over because he just can't speak up but secretly he's emotionally hurt by all this. No. No. Stop. Stop. Tobirama is canonically a bit of an asshole and he definitely knows how to self advocate. I LIKE him because he's such a fun brilliant but asshole character who has made mistakes and engineered some really shitty lives for some parts of the cast and also refuses to acknowledge this in any meaningful way, stop blaming Hashirama he's probably being bullied by his younger brother not the other way around.

#17: there should be more of this type of fic/art

This would cater only to me but there should be more period drama-esque arranged marriage fic/art. That would make me so happy. Alas, it is not uber popular to write these in the fandoms that I'm in which just means I need to make all of my own food but that's okay.

K, O, U, X, and Y!

K: How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom(s).

there aren't enough of us!!!! (World Trigger) But that DOES make it one of the most chill anime fandoms I've ever been in, so I mean, silver linings lmao. There's something very fun about the camaraderie in a small fandom and I definitely feel that here as well! I enjoy how chill everyone is and how everyone has made themselves comfy in whatever corner of this sprawling cast makes them happiest, but will also visit and appreciate OTHER people's particular fixations.

MP100 has its *cough* problems but frankly as a veteran of Promare circa 2020 it feels downright calm lmao. It helps that I pretty much exclusively spend time in the Shimateru niche these days, which is of course full of the coolest people in this fandom. My primary complaint is that I wish I could just enjoy seri-rei and shima-mine in peace without landing among a bunch of assholes but eh, at least there are some fantastic Japanese artists in those ships whose work I can enjoy without reservations. And it makes me pleased in a deeply petty way to write seri-rei but ONLY as a background ship to shimateru LMAO

i truly think about danoh and go '<3' she was just so great! and oh, i really liked danoh and haru's relationship, but the thing that stole the show for me was the friendship between danoh and dohwa. i was rooting for their happiness the whole time and their antics made me laugh so much! and i started liking jooda at some point towards the end, as well!

you're right, they are both lovely!

oh, i could talk about wifty for days! i love it! su zaizai and zhang lurang are so !!! zaizai is definitely my favorite character but i just love the five of them so much! their friendship was so lovely, and the relationship between jiang jia and gu ran was so funny and cute! there are just so many things i liked about it (zaizai's vlogs, how they touched the issues related to family, the way they talked things out and, when they didn't, zaizai didn't let anyone—not even her crush—treat her bad; the proposal... dies). the only bad thing about it is that it had to end </3

my favorite color is blue. and yellow. you mix them together and make green, which is another favorite color of mine <3 my hobbies are simple in the boring way, i love listening to music, taking a walk while i listen to more music, solving sudokus while i listen to even more music, and writing, and drawing (i am not good and i cannot do those two every day but i enjoy them a lot). and yes, giffing is another one of my hobbies <3 i love seeing the different approaches from different people when it comes to one scene, how supportive everyone here is, and i love coming up with an idea and seeing whether it turns out how i wanted it or if it's worse/better. when it comes to sets, i usually love making simple ones themed around an specific thing (an example from my old blog), but i try to make more elaborated things every now and then (one, two) if i can! <3 (when you reveal yourself, i'd love to hear your answer to that question, btw!)

A familiar gloved hand comes into view, pale fingers pushing back Lance’s fringe with a soft groan, and Hunk realizes that Lance's mouth is currently preoccupied and will not be able to respond. But it’s too late because Hunk’s already opened his own mouth to speak.

“Hey Lance, Allura wants to– hoLY F- oh yup okay that’s definitely a dick, goodbye I’m gonna erect myself out of- eject! - eject myself out of the airlock now.”

He turns on his heel and speed walks the fuck out, and even Yellow is sending him questioning concern that tingles the corners of his mind (though it’s tinged with amusement, the filthy traitor) and he ignores Lance’s choking and coughing and swearing.

He also chooses to ignore Keith’s mortified cry of his name along with “wait-!” because no Keith, why the fuck would he wait?!

‘Oh sorry, let me just pause in my desperate attempt at fucking off for a moment so you can remove your genitals from the back of my best friend’s throat and try and convince me that your penis was checking for cavities’.

like holy shit 😭😭 words cannot express how out of pocket this whole fic is like i genuinely cannot read it without smiling

LABYRINTH!!! you genuinely cannot make me pick from labyrinth the entire song is flawless not a line is wasted or should be changed and the beauty is in how the song’s narrative progresses and builds upon itself so to isolate just one line is sort of misleading anyway

unironically “karma is my boyfriend” changed my life for the better in so many ways. it is STILL a top 3 song off midnights. if karma has no fans then i am dead

“does it ever miss wicklow sometimes” 🥲🥲🥲🥲 no seriously how does she have me crying over a ROCK

mastermind is another unbeatable song for me but if i HAVE to choose im going with “i’m only cryptic and machiavellian cause i care” because of the line delivery, the meaning, and yet again, the way it captures Taylor Swift™️ so so well. but yeah the whole song is stacked with incredible lyricism and the storyline is so compelling

the great war has a lot of my favorites not necessarily because of the lyrics but because of her delivery but the one image from it that i really adore is “crimson clover” and also “i drew curtains closed / drank my poison all alone”

there’s a lot more from paris than i expected. “2003 unbearable” honorary mention because that is my birth year. “sit quiet by my side in the shade / and not the kind that’s thrown, i mean the kind under where a tree has grown” is an all time favorite for me. i get so excited to sing along to it and i think it’s hilariously clever word play

and also “let the only flashing lights be the tower at midnight” gets to me every. time.

Door Reviews: The Beginner's Guide (2015)

hey there reader.

i’ve been busy lately. work been kicking my ass. i’ve been meaning to play this game for the past couple of weeks, but just couldn’t find the time.

i found the time just today. and now, i will write a review.

i won’t follow my usual format for this one. i’ll just write what comes to mind.

this game is a game about games. well, not specifically about games, but about the process of making games. about what the process means to people. to the artist and the audience. i seem to like this genre of game a lot, what with two of my fave games being immortality (2022) and chicory (2021).

made by davey wreden, the person who made the stanley parable (2013), it continues that weirdness and levity, but brings with it something more personal. how can it not be, when it’s davey wreden itself who narrates the game?

the game was made using the source engine. it shows with the assets. it does feel somewhat dated, but it still works. even though i say it’s dated, it still presents as an experience that gets its points across really well.

it’s one of the games that epitomizes that games can be artistic experiences. it’s the kind of game that i continue to seek out. it is whimsical at times and yet can be tough to get through. nonetheless, i am glad i played this game.

i will now start discussing the game within its context. spoilers will abound. and maybe also some dungeon meshi spoilers actually, specifically about shuro and laios. and spoilers about the prestige (2006) movie.

alright. let’s talk about this game right and proper.

you know how i said davey wreden was narrating the game? well, i was sorta kinda lying. it’s a fictionalized version of himself. a fictionalized version that, i’d imagine, is not at all who he is in real life.

he talks of coda and his skill in game development. talks of how the chosen engine informs the art one can create. talks of the themes coda explores. the prison games. the lamp posts. the three dots.

i especially liked the house game part. it’s therapeutic in a way. i would not have minded it had it gone on forever. davey definitely minded though.

as the game went on, we get more insight into coda as talked about by davey. he is this tortured artist who needs to be rescued by davey. but all of it gets turned in on its head with the tower game.

i am reminded of laios and shuro. coda here is like shuro in that he is not being direct with his hatred of davey. he chooses to express his discomfort by way of games he developed. and here, davey is laios who does not get what coda is trying to say. except davey is worse than laios. much worse in that he has shown himself to be such a narcissist, feeding on the approval of others and only using someone’s art as a means to an end. he uses someone’s pain to make himself feel better, to make himself feel useful.

i have to admit however. the things he talks about. they somewhat feel relatable. i do feel good when i manage to help someone. i do feel good when the reason that someone feels good is something that i did.

but what davey does wrong is that he does not learn from his actions. he chooses his own selfish needs over respecting his former friend’s boundaries. he released the beginner’s guide to the public in a bid for approval, despite being clearly told that this action is the very thing that made him lose the friendship in the first place.

and he is self-aware about this! and yet, like the scorpion, he cannot help who he is.

coda and davey represent two kinds of ways one interfaces with art. coda is art for art’s sake. the way one has fun splashing paint on a canvass. doodling on paper. the simple joy of creating. he understands the process of creation itself. the highs and lows. he is comfortable in himself. davey represents the desire to see the audience’s reaction to one’s art. the likes, retweets, faves. the discussion. the ego-boosting.

it evokes the prestige (2006). except more focus is given to hugh jackman’s character, and his psyche. he wants to see the look on their faces. except… davey specifically wants to see their faces look at him.

the tower section really turned the game on its head and exposes davey as an unreliable narrator who is only out to get what he wants.

the story starts out rather nice, discussing the art process, how coda made what he made. but for it to end like that is gutwrenching. i felt for coda, and am disgusted with davey.

like i said earlier, i like this game. it told its story well. it felt very real, like it can happen to anyone. and in a way, it kinda is. it may be a fictionalized version of davey, but he must have drawn from his real life experiences. and it seems like he has looked inward and matured from this cartoonish version of himself… or at least, i hope he has. i think that, in itself, is artistry. to continue to better yourself. to eschew stagnation, and become more than what you are.

Bruh, I am definitely going through something mentally this week.

I accidentally started re-reading old Naruto fanfic faves and now I've moved onto daring to dip my toes into reading newer stuff I've never read before. If I open Stormborn/Backslide or any of blackkat's old (but undeniably phenomenal) Naruto longfics someone take my tablet away from me.

I refuse to relapse a third time into this fucking series.

In other news, I've been watching Brooklyn 99 on netflix and that's been helping my mental health somewhat. Things with my aunt's estate are fucked. They can't find her will, her home is apparently a hoarders disaster which isn't surprising because she apparently was really sick but never bothered to convey that to us. She knew she was apparently dying and gave her animals away to a friend but...didn't bother to call her own sister and tell her she was near the end of her life which is so fucked I cannot even wrap my brain around it.

Who would choose to die alone? Who would choose to nurse grudges to their literal grave rather than try and have one last conversation with your family? I just cannot mentally wrap my brain around it. Cause yeah, she and my mom weren't getting along but she didn't tell my brother either and he's the only one she seemed to like. She always looked down on my because I didn't have a college education and (from my POV seemed to think I was the same white trash as my mom which...I'm not).

It's wild to me. And I feel so bad for my mom and my brother because I fully expect we'll find a will eventually and she will have left all her stuff to the guy she gave her animals to and he's just waiting for mom and my brother to do all the heavy lifting and grunt work because he can't be arsed to do it.

My brother has to go back to California tomorrow, I don't know if mom is coming back from Houston or what. I really don't want her to have to deal with this shit without a buffer.

I want to drive out to Austin to see him before he leaves but he kinda gave me the impression he didn't want me to do that. I might work overtime tomorrow because they are offering it and I need the extra cash. That and it'll help keep my bad brain thoughts from spiraling.

I just started a stupid, horrifically cliche BL J-drama on Netflix called "I cannot reach you" because I cannot handle thinking too deeply on anything right now.
