Crush! One word titles are my favorite!
Hi anon!
This is actually the only non DC fic in my WIP list! It's a two-shot I'm writing for FTH
It's for the Digimon Adventure fandom (which idk if you're familiar with or not so this might not make much sense if you dont) and features two of my favorite characters.
Basically, Jou has a one sided crush on Koushiro and is trying to gather the courage to admit his feelings. Koushiro is aroace in this and is trying to figure out why Jou is acting different/how to explain his lack of interest isn't a rejection of Jou specifically.
I don't usually write romantic things since I'm aroace myself, but this has been really fun to work on. Just the emphasis on their friendship and importance to each other while showcasing some ways aroace people navigate these sorts of situations has been really cool and almost cathartic to write.

playing through every fuckinggg vvideo game with gay bitches in it to try and salvage the last 2 weeks of my break. effortpost incoming
potionomics:
kind of insane how high effort the presentation is. the past ten years have been leading up to a kind of cultural dominance of Matte 3D (spiderverse, borderlands, arcane, and every work trying to cop the vibe of any of these three things) so even though this is literally the thing that Matte 3D was supposed to be a break from it still feels refreshing to see an incredibly high effort well-arted-out Shiny 3D thing that splits the difference between "looks like anime" and "looks like a western thingy tryna be anime" really well. of course with shit like The Super Dope And Viral Digital Circus becoming skibidi level popular i can only assume that we're gonna get ten years of Shiny 3D coming up and the ouroboros devours its own tail but right now it still feels fresh in the moment
that being said mannnnnnnnnnn fuck all the stupid ass characters in this game. the writing in this game has the unenviable task of like. trying to sound Whoalsome (cuz it has to market itself that way) while being not as annoying as like when cartoons and games and shit do le quirky dialogue (cuz if you do that now people yell at you on twitter) and for the most part it succeeds but it kind of doesnt matter when every single fuckinggggggg social link conversation is about like your adventurer friend telling you how they feel imposter syndrome about being in a fantasy rpg guild before asking you Okay But Really Though How Can I Contribute To Woke Capitalism While Prompting Reform As A Budding Small Business Owner In Dragontown❓ Awful. you can be gay and have one of several epic girlfriends in this but even after all that they only talk about how they are choosing to work with small clients with their marketing firm (not a joke) fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuc kkkkkk. they dont even show up when you win the fucking potionomics tournament so who cares.
half the steam reviews are bitching about the day limit thing which is fucking insane to me. the game is extremely generous with your time and the day limit at least sets your ass on fire a little bit which is the only uncomplicated positive emotion thsi game gave me. you might fuck up the first 10-day cycle once or twice but if you can clear that you can do the whole game. i maxed out all the social links and ccleared everything and It Was Fine. also there's a really scary egyptian stereotype character.
summon night swordcraft story:
i played this shit because i saw hazel talk about it being surprisingly gay ina video then i play it and if you do the personality quiz at the start of the game good your summonable creature is just straight up a woman who wants to fuck you. so then i watch the hazel video again and she didnt even get or mention that character. crazy.
anyway the summonable woman thing is kind of fucking epic especially with how played straight it is b ut also really funny to think about. every single other character summons like a cute stage 1 digimon type creature to help them out in battle and the creatures all fuck off when they're not fighting but your thing is a human woman with her tits out who just walks around with you all the time who wants you to fuck her (ESPECIALLY IF YOURE A WOMAN!!!!!!) all the time. i want to imagine that all the other ccharacters are like either incredibly mad or uncomfortable about this but just choose not to say anything about it.
i played this shit on a gba emulator on my phone while chilling on my bed and straight up if i got a steam deck and could play video games on my bed or while lying down it would bef ucking over for me. i would never get up. i think at this point its kind of essential for me that video games require the suck ass task of sitting on an ikea chair to be able to be played. either way its incredibly mechanically and textually light so its kind of perefect to be played while dicking around On Da Phone. the story is extremely standard jrpg but it is a little sweet that for the protagonist, becoming stronger is directly conflated with becoming kinder to other people and learning more about her world. again not the craziest thing in the world but its sweet
apparently da sequel is also gay but i kind of cannot be bothered to wwant to play it because the protag isn't as sauced up as this fucking girl. complete perfect harmony of artstyle and character design and the gba making all the art crunchy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ITS FUCKING PRATTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i usually do the thing of naming every rpg protag with my name whenever i play these things b ut this bitch has so much personality just thru her portrait and vibes alone that i stuck w the default name. idk i am extremely charmed by her shapes
crymachina
this shit looks soooo fucking good what the fuckkkkkk. i posted before about how it looks like the renders they used to have on the boxes of graphics cards but it really is Like That. most of it is still filtered through the lens of extremely NIS-america/JAST japanese enthusiast B-game jank but still. the prerendered cutscenes in this are straight up my favourite part of the game they are straight up gorgeous. god tier anime girl 3d artism
the aesthetic and story are both kind of insane hi-concept sci-fi bullshit to the point where i kind of have to salute it no matter what just for swinging that hard and high. extremely weird pacing and it feels like it got truncated at some point and a bunch of the stuff that was meant to be in the game got put inside some of the stupid ass nier-weapon-story-type things this game has. for the record i hate when any video game does thiis cuz eevery single weapon story is like. okay i spent 10 minutes looking for it but there's a meme with a nier weapon story screen and its like
Weapon story 1:
Girl:I am having heart surgery
Boy: I know... I love you
Weapon story 2:
After surgery when the girl woke up, with only her father next to her
Weapon Story 3:
Girl: Where is he???
Weapon story 4:
Father: who do you think gave you the heart?????
it's completely fucking insane to me that people will make fun of fallout skeletons and skyrim journals and shit like that as if this isn't on the exact same level
anyway its pretty good and like. blatantly about being a gay bitch on e very thematic level its kind of crazy. really fun game to think about. i don't like one of the artistic decisions made regarding one of the late-game twists but whatever. The way you unlock the final ending is one of the most fun ways to do it ive ever seen and i was incredibly pleased when i figured it out. the gameplay in every other aspect is extremely perfunctory but the way you unlock the final ending is kidn of just incredibly pog-worthy in a way that you can't really feel if you just watch a video or read a description of it, especially if you figure it out yourself.
THATTTTTTTTTTT BEING SAIDDDDDDDDDDDDD i think the ending is just Fine. I think i have a built in brain immunity or something to like. specifically sci fi video games cuz i saw this had the same thing as nier automata where a lot of people were going on about Auuuuuuu Fuckkkk I Cried At The Endddd So Crazyyyy but when i hit the final end i was just like Hruh That's It??? and spent like 10 minutes making sure if that was the final final for realsies ending. idunno man.
but also overall i still really liked this game and i still think it is extremely bold for what it does so if youve read this far and have 60-ish dollars to throw around you should absolutely buy it at its stupid ass japanesegameonsteam price cuz i wanna see more crap in the Cry_____ vein (crymachina was made after crystar which like. shares loose Vibe Associations but as far as i can tell is otherwise completely unrelated) and just more games that make as many crazy ass aesthetic decisions as this one. either way im definitely gonna keep an eye on what furyu puts out after this
ok thats it. im gonna try mary skelter 2 now hopefully i dont die

For Yamato, life was pretty good. Above-average grades, bassist and main vocals in a band, and a good set of friends.
But for his best friend Mimi, life was…just okay.
She had average grades, she was not part of a band despite Yamato encouraging her to share her voice, and a few friends. But that was fine by her. She knew Yamato’s other group was not the best, but at least she was sure that hers were honest and liked her for who she was.
She had tried telling Yamato about his side, even his younger brother Takeru agreed with her. But he would not have it. She gave up at some point, at least he still hung out with her. What would she do if her childhood and best friend stopped talking to her? Although he was a year older, he did not treat her as if she was a kid.
“Are you going to the gig?” he asked, leaning on her desk.
Mimi sighed. “I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know, of course you’re going.”
She pouted. “It’s Valentine’s Day.”
“So?”
“There’s going to be a crowd,” she replied. “And they’re each bringing their own dates, which is twice the crowd.”
Yamato snorted. “I’ll save you front row seats.”
Mimi thought for a while. “On the house?”
He smirked.
“Okay, I’m going.”
He grinned. “Great!” He stood up straight and began to walk away. “I’ve got practice, I’ll see you later.”
She brought her hand and gave it a slight wave. When he had disappeared, her friend Koushiro replaced him. “Taichi and Sora are waiting for us outside,” he said. “Or are you going to wait for him?”
She looked at Koushiro then at the door. “No, let’s go.”
It was not unusual for her and Yamato to head home together. After all, they were next-door neighbors. However, it was getting rarer and rarer. With him having band practice and hanging out with his friends, she would find herself either going home alone or with her other smaller group.
When she arrived home that day, she peeped out her window, splitting the blinds with her two fingers, and looked for any signs of Yamato. Albeit she knew that he was still practicing, it was sort of a habit of hers now. When she first started going home without him, she would take a peek to see if he had arrived home, she was excited to know what had been going on with him.
Unfortunately, often he would come home too late and she would be too tired to talk. So she stopped waiting. Well, that was what she would say to herself.
When she saw no signs of him, she walked away from the window and flopped on her bed. Grabbing a magazine from her floor, she flipped through it before pausing at a headline.
“Thirty, flirty, and thriving,” she murmured. “Hm.” She scanned the cover and found attractive women, seeming to be in their thirties, who had their own little story to share. She twisted the magazine sideways and down before throwing it back down on the floor. “If only.”
Later that night, after dinner and back in her room, Mimi heard Yamato’s voice. He was talking to someone and laughing at what the other person had said. She frowned before shaking her head. She pulled up her blanket, turned off her lamp, and closed her eyes.
Valentine’s Day had arrived and Mimi tried her best to push her way to the front of the bar where the mini-stage was. When she finally reached it, she let out a sigh of relief as she sat down.
“Hey, you made it!” Yamato grinned while he approached her. “Are you doing okay?”
She nodded. “Big crowd,” is all she said.
“Yeah.” He nodded as he scanned the place. “Hey.” She looked up at him as he took out his phone and focused it on her. “Smile.”
Mimi giggled and did as she was told.
Yamato had a knack for taking pictures of her. It all started when she admitted that she liked cameras, she loved cameras. Because they help keep fond memories together. Yamato surprised her once, with a small, colorful camera. She was the first one he ever took a picture of…and so far the only.
“I’ll be up in a bit. Need anything?”
She shook her head. “I’m good.”
He smiled. “Come backstage for me after the show.”
“Would they let me in?”
He chuckled and then leaned down and whispered, “The password is ‘harmonica’.”
She let out a soft laugh. “Okay.”
The show was great. The band was getting better and better, she had to admit. Yamato was the best among them all and she was proud to have him as a best friend. She grinned the whole way through the gig, feeling very, very proud.
When it was done, she took a few minutes to allow the crowd to disperse before walking to the back. The security had held her back but when she used the word “harmonica”, she was surprisingly let in. She found Yamato chatting with a girl, she did not know her so she probably was not from school. What surprised her though, was when he leaned down and kissed her.
Mimi did not know what was happening. One minute she was standing backstage. Next, she was on a bench underneath an oak tree. She replayed the scene over and over again, taking deep breaths as she did. Her hands gripped the edge of her skirt and she suddenly began to sniffle.
What was happening to her?
She sobbed. If she was more than who she was now, would he notice her?
Oh no. She wanted Yamato to notice her. Oh no.
She shook her head. Remembering the magazine she had flipped through a few days ago, she wished to become like one of those successful women. She needed to be one of those successful women.
“Thirty, flirty, and thriving. Thirty, flirty, and thriving,” she chanted as the wind became stronger and stronger. Continuing her mantra even with tears and quivering lips, she hugged herself. “Thirty, flirty, and thriving. Thirty, flirting, and thriving….”
And again, she found herself in a place she did not know where.
She stared at the ceiling. That was not her ceiling. The bed she was lying on was too comfy. And there was a man sleeping beside her.
She froze. There was a man sleeping beside her.
She slowly pushed herself up from the bed, careful not to wake up her companion, whoever he was. Thankfully, she was fully clothed, as was the man. There were glasses on his bedside table and she wondered if she knew anyone wearing them.
“Um…hello?”
He did not budge.
She poked him. “Hello?”
Again, no movement.
She frowned and finally shook him. “Hello!”
The man jerked away and turned around to face her. “It’s still so early, Mimi.”
“Early?” she wondered. She looked around and found an alarm clock on her side table. It was 10:34 A.M. on a Thursday. “I’m late for school!”
The man sat up and rubbed his eyes. “What are you talking about?”
“It’s ten-thirty on a Thursday, my attendance record is ruined!”
The man looked at her quizzically. He grabbed his glasses and put them on. “It’s too early for jokes, Mimi.”
“I’m not—wait, I don’t even know who you are! Who are you? I don’t know where I am! Where am I?”
The man sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose, his glasses hanging by the tips. “I’m not in the mood for jokes, Mimi.” He stood up from the bed and headed out of the room.
It was then that Mimi became terrified. What was happening? She looked down. She was still in her body but were those…did she have boobs now? Her eyes widened. “No way.” She turned her head left and right and found a full-body mirror nearby the window. Scrabbling off of the bed and running to the mirror…she nearly screamed, or maybe faint, whichever, at what she saw.
It was her. Definitely her. Just taller. Looked a little older. And with boobs.
She looked around the room. “This is a dream,” she murmured. She dashed out the room, barefoot, and inspected the whole place. It was obviously an expensive flat. Were her parents here, too?
“Mama! Papa!” she called. “Mama! Papa!”
A door opened and out came the man looking less sleepy. “Why are you calling for your parents?”
“Aren’t they here?”
“You’re acting really weird, Mimi.”
“Stop calling me by my name! I don’t even know who you are!”
The man groaned. “I’m going to prepare for work.”
‘He didn’t answer me!’
She was just about to march towards the man again when a phone rang. She recognized the ringtone. So she knew it was hers. It was loud and ringing but she had no idea where it was.
“Mimi!” the man shouted.
“I’m looking!” she shouted back.
She did her best to follow the ringing and she found the phone on the couch. She looked down at the caller and saw Hikari Yagami on the ID. She grinned and then answered. “Hikari!”
“Oh, good morning, Mimi. I’m sorry to call so early but—”
“What’s happening?” Mimi demanded.
“Um. Your meet and greet session was moved to one P.M. rather than its later schedule, and a song re-recording, too. But you’re free the rest of the day.”
“Hikari! Do you know what’s happening?”
“I…what do you mean?”
“Can I see you now?”
“Of course. Would you like to meet at the office?”
“I don’t know where I am.”
“I don’t understand….”
“I don’t know where I am,” she repeated.
Hikari stayed silent. “Maybe I should come to you.”
“Good. Great. Good idea.” She sighed in relief. “Please hurry.”
“I’ll do my best.”
Even though it only took half an hour, Mimi felt as if she was waiting for thirty years. The man was still inside the room and so she could not get changed and was instead pacing by the door.
Finally, a knock and she opened the door all too quickly.
“You know better than to open the door without looking, Mimi,” Hikari deadpanned as she entered.
“Sorry,” Mimi said with a nervous chuckle. Once she had closed the door, Hikari was already in the living room. “Hikari.”
“Are you okay, Mimi?” Hikari asked once she had settled down on the couch. Mimi followed and sat close to her. “You seem out of it. And you aren’t…dressed.”
“I am out of it,” Mimi replied. “I don’t know what’s happening.”
“That’s alright. It was a pretty late night when we brought you home. What don’t you remember?”
“Everything!” Mimi nearly yelled. “One minute I was in a park, the next thing I knew I was waking up with a man beside me! And I look much older!”
Hikari cocked her head. “But we didn’t go to the park. And Jyou stayed over to tuck you in properly. And you don’t look any older to me.” She squinted. “You’re perfect, as always.”
Mimi pursed her lips. “Hikari,” she said quietly. “I think my wish came true.”
“What wish?”
Mimi sighed and whispered, “Thirty, flirty, and thriving.” But Hikari heard her clearly as she raised an eyebrow. “I saw it in a magazine a few days ago and…,” she trailed off. “I wished it after I saw…well, it’s embarrassing really.”
Hikari smiled. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”
Mimi shook her head. “What is happening, Hikari?”
Hikari stayed quiet, she looked as if she was thinking. “I’m still confused. I don’t know what’s really happening to you. Could you start from the beginning?”
And so Mimi did. She repeated the magazine slogan and recalled what had happened the night before…or whenever that was. When she had finished, her head was bowed down, a frown on her face. She waited for Hikari to laugh or tell her that she was losing her mind, but she heard nothing. She looked up and saw her biting her bottom lip.
“So that’s how it is,” she said.
Mimi nodded.
They were silent until a door closed and she looked up to see the man, whom she remembered Hikari saying was Jyou, stepped out and walked over to her. He nodded at Hikari and greeted her. “You’re here early.”
“Mimi needed some help.”
“Oh. Well, that makes sense. She’s been acting a little weird this whole morning.” Jyou shrugged and kissed Mimi’s forehead when he was close rough, making the girl blush. “I’ll see you, okay. I’m not sure if I can stay over tonight.”
“Um…uh…well….” She did not know what to say. She turned to Hikari for help, the younger girl nodded slowly as if telling her to keep up the charade. Mimi cleared her throat. “Yeah, sure. That’s fine. I’ll see you.”
Jyou lowered his head and kissed her, making her jerk slightly, surprised. When he had stood up straight, he waved goodbye, and headed out the door. When he closed it from the outside, Mimi whined. “That was my first kiss!”
Hikari smiled, looking amused. “I’m sorry he stole it.”
“And I don’t even know who he is!”
“That’s Jyou Kido. He’s supposed to be your boyfriend. He’s a very successful doctor. You met when you had a bad accident on stage.” She tilted her head. “But…I think you’ve always liked someone else.”
Mimi looked at her. “I don’t know what you mean.”
Hikari shook her head. “So, where do you want to start.”
It turns out, Mimi was now a successful singer. She had begun singing when she reached high school, finally succumbing to the pressure of her family and friends cheering for her to share her voice. She ended up enjoying it and was discovered by a producer. She remained friends with Taichi, Hikari’s older brother, Sora, and Koushiro. Hikari had become her PA, which Mimi wondered about knowing that she had always wanted to become a teacher. Hikari had married Takeru, Yamato’s younger brother. Which led to the question she had dreaded.
“What about…Yamato? He’s your brother-in-law now, right?”
Hikari cast her eyes down. “You two…just drifted apart.”
“Oh,” was all Mimi could say. Hikari looked back at her. “What’s he doing now? Is he still part of a band?”
Hikari shook her head. “No. He stopped playing. He still has his harmonica, but he’s now a photographer.”
“Photographer?” Mimi asked in surprise. “Why?”
Hikari shrugged. “He suddenly found a new love for it. He’s very good at it, too. You should see his works. I mean, you’ve seen them but why not see it now?”
But Mimi was not thinking about his photos. Instead, she was wondering why she and Yamato had fallen apart. What had happened? Did she do anything wrong? Did he do anything wrong? ‘There’s got to be some explanation.’ She returned to listening to Hikari talking about his achievements. “Do you know how we drifted?” she interrupted. “Or why?”
Hikari paused. “I…um…you…well.”
“Well?”
Hikari took a deep breath and exhaled. “It was after that Valentine’s Day gig. The one you said you were in before you woke up at this moment. He looked for you after, but you left. At first everything was fine, but you suddenly started to become distant, then avoided him. We all wondered about it but you never told us why. Yamato gave up when he graduated and well…you guys just never spoke to each other again. You never even asked me for updates.”
Mimi sat there, mouth slightly agape. She tried to process the story. There has got to be a mistake, right? She would never distance herself away from Yamato, she would never avoid him. In fact, if they did drift apart, she was pretty sure that it would be him distancing himself away her, it would be him avoiding her. But her do that to him? No way. There must have been some understanding.
“That…maybe there was a misunderstanding? I’m sure there’s an explanation.”
Hikari shook her head. “You’d never say.”
Mimi sighed. Maybe that kiss between Yamato and the girl hit her more than she thought. No, it definitely did. “Where does he live?”
Hikari’s eyes widened. “You want to see him?”
“Of course. Maybe…I can fix things. Did he say anything about me, since we…you know, went our separate ways?” It hurt just to say that.
Hikari lowered her head and squirmed in her seat. “Not…really.”
Mimi felt her stomach drop. “Oh.”
“Do you think it’s a good idea to see him again?”
“I can try,” she replied without much thought. “Who knows, right?”
Hikari nodded. “I suppose.”
Later that day, after she pried the younger girl for the address, pressured her to cancel the day’s plans, helped her with her outfit to make sure no one would recognize her, suggested some choice of words and filled in some blanks between her middle school self up to the “present”, and a pep talk, Mimi was ready to go.
Luckily, the city did not change much, and she knew the building Hikari had given her. It was a bit far from the hustle and bustle, it was very Yamato. When she had arrived and stood in front of the door, she shifted from foot to foot before knocking lighty. She heard nothing for three seconds, and it made her change her mind. Just as she was about to turn, the door opened, the chain still in tact.
There stood Yamato. He looked older, and much taller. But he was still very handsome.
“Uh. Hi.” Mimi was nervous, she gripped her purse tightly. She was not even sure if he would se through her disguise. “I…um….”
But then he shut the door. Mimi blinked, wondering if he was that mad at er. Then he heard a clank of the chain and Yamato opened the door once again, this time, wider. This surprised her. Yamato leaned on the door, his eyes scanning hers.
“I…it’s me,” she started. “I don’t know if–”
“Mimi Tachikawa,” he said softly.
“Uh. Yeah.”
Yamato sighed. “What are you doing here?”
“I…it’s a long story really. But I don’t think you’d believe me.”
“Try me.”
Mimi opened her mouth but closed it at the last minute. “It’s my fault isn’t it,” she said instead. “That we’re in this situation.”
He sighed. “I guess you can say that.” They heard voices along the hallway and he instructed her to get in. She did as she was told and he apologized for the mess. Or, what he called a mess.
“Do you want anything?”
“No, it’s alright.”
Yamato nodded and gestured towards his sofa. Mimi sat down and then watched as he followed.
“What can I do for you?” he asked.
Mimi stared at him for a while. When he gave her a questioning look, she laughed nervously. “It’s so nice to see you.”
He looked taken aback, but his face softened and he said quietly, “Likewise.”
“I heard you were into photography now.”
Yamato blushed but nodded. “Yeah. I realized I’m better at it then I thought.”
“You were always good at everything.”
This made him smile. “Thanks.”
Mimi took a deep breath and said, “I’m sorry about what happened between us, Yamato. I think we should start over again. We can rekindle our friendship, pretend nothing had happened in these past years. Hikari told me it was my fault and I’m sorry.”
“What do you mean Hikari told you it was your fault? You didn’t know?” His gritted his teeth.
Mimi shook her head. “That part isn’t important. But I do want to be friends with you again. If this situation is going to go on forever then I don’t want to be in bad terms with you.”
He huffed. “You can’t just turn back time.”
“Why not?”
“It doesn’t work that way, Mimi!” he shouted.
Mimi jerked back.
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “What you did hurt, Mimi. What happened hurt. You were my best friend and you just left me. You might think it didn’t bother me but it did. It really did. And I never got an explanation! You just up and left! I forgive you, Mimi, I really do. But I don’t want to get hurt again.”
“I’m not going to hurt you,” she said softly.
Yamato shook his head. “You’re a successful singer, Mimi. And I’m just a photographer. Whatever happens…our relation–friendship, wouldn’t work. And anyway, you’ve got Jyou Kido now.”
“So?”
Yamato looked away. “It doesn’t matter,” he muttered. “I think you should leave, Mimi.”
“But, Yamato–”  But before she continued, a picture behind him caught her attention. “Is that me?” she asked. She stood up and walked over to the wall. “It is me!” It was her in a recital, probably from high school, recognizing the uniform. She looked beside it. It was her on stage. Then another. And another. And another. They were all her.
“Why do you have pictures of me framed on your wall?”
Yamato turned away. “It’s creepy, I’m sorry.”
Mimi looked at the photos again. “You took all these?”
He nodded.
“They’re…perfect.”
“They’re not that great.”
“I think they are, and–” Another picture caught her eye. It was on his sidetable by his bed. She walked over to it while Yamato told her to stop. She did not. Instead, she picked up the picture frame. “It’s us.”
Yamato sighed. “It was the last photo we took of us together.”
“Oh.”
“I think you should go.”
“But–”
“Go, Mimi. Please.”
Mimi felt her heart ache. “Okay,” she said. She placed the picture frame back on the table and walked past him. But just as she did, he heard her say, “I’ve always loved you.” Her eyes widened but her feet did not stop moving. She opened the door, closed it behind her, and walked away.
She did not break down until she sat on the bench under the big oak tree. If only she could turn back time again, she would. She wanted to make everything right. She did not want this future, or present, or whatever this was. She did not want it.
“I want to go back,” she whispered. “I want to go home.”
The wind was strong and her hair was flying all over the place.
“I want to go home.”
And when she opened her eyes, it was night time again. There were no people around, but she was in the same spot. She looked down at her clothes and smiled when she saw the they were the same as the night of the Valentine’s Day gig, she stood up and jumped for joy.
“I’m back!” she shouted with glee. “I’m back!”
“Mimi!”
She turned to the side and saw Yamato sprinting towards her.
“Mimi!” When he stood close to her, catching his breath just a little, he said, “I didn’t see you backstage.”
“I…um…,” she began. But the memory of Yamato kissing the unknown girl flashed in her head. After taking a few deep breaths, she smiled and shook her head. “I had to clear my head. Too stuffy in there.”
Yamato nodded. “Yeah, it was. I was worried. You should’ve at least messaged me.”
“Sorry.”
He walked closer to her. “What did you think of the last song?”
“Perfect for the day,” she answered. “Crazy for You is such a classic. I’m actually surprised you guys did a good rendition of it.”
“Yeah. It was, wasn’t it…,” he trailed off.
“Listen,” she started, “whatever happens, we’re going to be best friends forever, okay?”
Yamato blinked. “Where is this coming from?”
She sighed. “I…know that after what I saw I was going to make a huge mistake, probably the biggest mistake of my life.”
“What did you see?” he asked.
She realized what she had said. Although she wanted to make something up, she knew telling him the truth was the best. “I saw you kissing someone  backstage,” she said quietly. “I…I got jealous. And…I did things I was not happy with.”
“What do you mean ‘did’?” He sounded very confused. “What are you talking about?”
“It’s a long story,” she groaned. “What I’m trying to say is, I promise nothing is going to come in between the two of us, okay? Not even that girl I don’t know.”
Yamato stayed silent. “It was a test.”
“A test?” Mimi cocked her head.
“I wanted to see if there could have been something between me and her.”
“And was there?” She did not want to know the answer but here she was asking anyway.
“None.”
“Oh.”
He stepped forward. Mimi did not step away. Then, he leaned down and caught her lips. It was sweet and innocent. She liked it. She loved it. When they had separated, she asked, “What was that for?”
“That was another test.”
“Did I pass?”
He nodded.
“Do you think I’ll still pass when we’re older?” She remembered the relationship she had with Yamato in the future, she definitely did not pass back then.
Yamato raised his arms and held onto her shoulders. “No matter what age, young and lively, or old and gray, you’ll always pass.” He leaned down again, this time she met him halfway. “Don’t leave me,” he whispered, his lips hovering hers.
This startled her, as if he knew what was going to happen if she had walked away. “I won’t,” she responded just as softly. “I won’t.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Mimi.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Yamato.”

Thing's that makes me believed that Yameiko should be endgame.
Hello! It's been a long time huh!
First of all, that's my opinion about the digimon series, and it's not my intentions offend anyone. Only thing that i wanted here is just express my opinion and all of us put on a reflection moment about the serie.
It's been a long time that I wanted to talk about this, since that i watched the first Tri  movie, but I felt like I was only person that thought that way and my opinion wouldn't be well accepted.
But i see some Yameiko post's, i rebloged then and when i posted photostos or talk about them, people starting liked, and i felt more confortable in post this, even there's a little people talk about them, and i felt that i need to share this and who knew more people posted more about this ship.
So let's get started!
So I'm going to start with this list, with the times when Yamato saved Meiko's life. That's the part more evident in this ship.
Since i watch first move of digimon tri, there's only thing that kept me whatch all serie, i mean, there was two people that makes me watch the whole serie, Yamato and Meiko.
Why? Beacause the first interaction betwen them it was so intense and effective that it made me wonder if this wasn't something to keep an eye on them, for some possible development in the future.
They were also developing Koumi and, as far as I imagine, the first part it was to introduce us to the story that was being told. This also applies to any story being told.
Anyway! Let's go to the scenes.
The first scene them together, without anyone of the group, it was a scene that yamato saves Meiko, in a moment very vulnerable for her in the first Tri movie.
Tumblr media
I don't think Yamato in that moment saved her because she is someone importat to him, but he does because she needed help and we know he have these protect instinct when he’s see someone in danger.
But ask yourself, do you think that other times that his saved her life, it was only for because she was in danger?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For example, the way he screams because he is forced to accept that Meicoomon needs to die, and when he ran to stop Meiko (when she went after the meicrackmon) and wold end up killing herself along with meicoomon, he doesn't think twice before running up to her (as Taichi did and, he only did because Yamato ran after Meiko).
Do you think that there's not something more behind, and what could be?
Tumblr media
And if you were Meiko in these situations, do you couldn't feeling something for your savior? ...
I think this may be possible had some feelings for each other in a life-or-death situation. Because it brings good feelings of comfort, safety and protection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See how in this scene it’s seems like them try to come closer to each other
Tumblr media
Or in this scene when Yamato say to her don't apologizes for what happening with Taich and move on.
You didn't find it weird the Meiko’s reaction when she find that Yamato is Takeru’s brother?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What If she does that expression because she started know more about Yamato, the one who saved her life and, and she felt grateful to him, and the guy who was more close to her until then (Takeru) it was your brother?
See how Takeru be impressed with this?
Probably he getting something behind the Meiko's expression. He knows better than everyone in the group how treat a girl, and how she could feellt and there’s a lot of scenes that could prove that.
And don't you think it's strange the way Yamato gets introspective in this second film?
Tumblr media
Okay... We know it's because he and Taich weren't well, but is there the only reason he's a recluse?
Did you see this scene when Meiko talked about Meicoomon to the girls, and said that her digimon never evolved before?
Yamato had his back to her and when she says so, it soon shows him leaving the table where the guys were sitting and Nishijima looking at him with his face that he didn't understand what was going on.
That doesn't seem like nothing important, but why put this part in this scene? There any meaning behind it?
Tumblr media
What if he was introspective and watched her and tried to get to know her better and how would she act with the rest of the group, at the same time he was still mad at Taich?
I think it might be possible because no one knew much about her, and he saved her and of course he'd keep an eye on her after that.
I started thinking that way when I realized how Takeru at the beginning of the second film, he was very attentive to what Meiko was doing, like trying to make her more comfortable with the group, when he saw her talking to Himekawa or when he was asking questions in front of everyone in the group.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Oh! See this reference that she lived in a city in the city where Yamato and Takeru's grandmother lived).
It may sound crazy, but what if Yamato and Takeru were suspicious of something and were wondering how Meiko ended up getting into this whole situation?
No one would suspect Takeru's behavior, since he was always a very kind guy and Yamato was always a more observant and reserved guy and both could draw their own conclusions in different ways.
And I think everyone agrees that Yamato would be able to do this kind of thing, like when he went to meet Himekawa and Nishijima to learn more about the Meicoomon’s investigation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i know this scene would be less important to defended this ship.
Anyway i still think this scene is very weird don’t you?
Now let's talk about how much he's worried about her and her feelings and always put her in the group as a member.
Tumblr media
It’s so cute that scene!!
The second time he saves her, she still wants to run after meicoomon to try to stop her, he stopped her immediately and say don't do it because she could get hurt and Meicoomon would become more unstable.
Tumblr media
Okay again it looks like he's protective instincts, but I could believe it if he'd done it a few times. but if you put other times that he done that, it seems something more envolved.
for example see this scene when Meiko comeback to school after days without talk with anyone in the thirth Tri movie?
Tumblr media
This scene call’s my attention for only two things:
Did you see the way Yamato talk to her and how Mimi call him?
Tundra (or correct term tsundere) is a Japanese proverb, used to describe someone who hides his good feellings by someone being rude to that person ( as like Yamato did in this scene). Usually this term is used in shoujo mangas or animes to develop a couple.
So ... why put this if there's not meaning behind that?
We know how Yamato it’s a person who hide he’s feelings and can’t get express them. So ... it’s could be possible that Mimi, Taich and Sora say the truth in this scene.
But there’s much more!
Tumblr media
This scene is very curious to analyze. For us who were watching, we knew that Takeru wasn't thinking about Meiko in the first place when he said that, but in Patamon who was infected.
But look at that curious, Yamato looks directly at Meiko, thinking that his brother was referring to her, he apologizes and is sad to have been insensitive.
But look what's more curious this, at first Yamato wouldn't bother to defeat the digimons if they were infected, but when it happened and Raguelmon had to be defeated, he had that reaction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This act for me has more meaning than any words.
Tumblr media
Yamato is one of those who scolds Joe for talking like that of The Meicoomon, because he knew how it affected Meiko.
Now let’s talk about the cave scene! ... Meiko’s talk about your insecurites about meicoomon and your friedns try to say her to don’t give up to Meicoomon and don’t close yourself and share with them all your problems and ...
Tumblr media
Only people talk to her to comfort and were Taich, Hikari, Sora, Mimi and Yamato, and the Yamato's words, there's more impact than any other said before.
And remember how the trailer made us thought that was Yamato holding Meiko’s hand?
And it’s not only time that he does that!
Tumblr media
This scene is so interesting. Look how mad Yamato seems for not being able to say the right thing for her. He tries so hard to say that she and Meicoomon are not undesirable and felt part of group.
And his not your first time do this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this scene Taichi, Yamato and Joe were talking about Meicoomon and Taich doubts whether they would be able to save Meicoomon. Yamato doesn't think twice before saying that both are part of group and leaves the place very mad.
It is curious to see how Taichi did not seem very sure that Meicoomon had salvation, but Yamato was willing to do anything to help because Meiko and Meicoomon were part of the group.
Tumblr media
And don't forget Yamato's reaction when he sees Taichi raising Meiko and how he seemed to want to cut that scene quickly by telling them to move on.
You think this scene he wasn't feeling at all about seeing both together?
These scenes It made me think that this kind of behavior is not typical of someone introspective like Yamato.
And why does he have such an intense feeling if he's met Meiko a couple days ago, is there something more than partner or friends?
A random curiosity!
Do you realize that in the scene where the digimons recover their memories, Meicoomon appears discreetly in only in Gabumon's and Palmon's memories?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This may sound silly, but if the digimons have a strong connection with their partners, they sure know what's going on in their hearts, and Gabumon knew that saving Meicoomon was important to Yamato, but why?
Did he have any hidden feelings that only Gabumon knew?
And last! Did you notice that the boku ni totte song the lyrics fit perfectly with Meiko and everything she went through?
Okay! ... know the song has another meaning, but doesn't that mean she can't have another interpretation either, right?
If you take the lyrics song sung by Yamato's Japanese voice actor. The lyrics speaks of a very vulnerable moment and this person says he wants to be strong enought  to protect someone and Yamato has a very great protective instinct for Meiko as we saw earlier.
In the chorus it says things like "You say good bye!" and “Don’t say goodbye”  At the end of Tri Meiko left everyone for returned to Tottori.
In addition parts of the song the lyrics say how the person who is leaving is irreplaceable for him, and as i said earlier, Yamato always tried to comfort Meiko by saying that she was part of the group.
Now it's coincidence or there's a deep meaning behind?
See for yourself!
I'm not trying to say that my opinion is the only truth, only the producers and writers behind of the series can answer that, but with all this evidence, wouldn't that be more than enough not to underestimate them?
I hope see more Yameiko's fans here, even  them not being canon in the future, because i think them deservered a especial attention in the fanbase for your "development" as a possible couple.
I hope you like it, and if you could, comment too, even if you don't agree with me, as long you argument be respectfull.

Me: I'm going to do something for Odaiba day!
Also me: ...time to revive the dumb Detroit: Become Digital AU from last year!
ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
This was kinda weird to write in a way. The combining of DBH and Digimon elements made my brain go.. “heeey, hol up” haha.
I decided to call the Digivice in this world a CyberTechD, so when you see CT-D that's what it is. ^^ Also, Tamers can summon various, temporary, items to assist in battle because....-shrugs-.
TW for uh...major injury I guess. An android gets disarmed. >;3c
A tip about the series of Digimon kidnappings was what brought Gavin and Nines to this suspiciously empty house, in the quieter part of town.
“Well,” Gavin tsked, “Isn't this sus?”
“This some kind of shitty prank?” Dante huffed.
Nines began scanning the area. “Or a trap?”
Gavin made a noise of agreement, the uneasy feeling -that everyone else fuckin' dismissed- was getting stronger. “...So how about we leave since this a bust?”
“Agreed.” Dante tugged his neckerchief. “I'm getting the heebies.”
“Duck!” Was all the warning Dante got before the roar of blue fire shot past him.
Dante yelped, hitting the ground and covering his head. He glared at Arc. “What the hell was that?”
Gavin spun, stumbling back a bit, his surprise swiftly turning to anger as he saw what Arc shot out of the air. On the ground, still smoldering, was a weakly sparking control collar.
  “What the fuck!”
  “We'll head them off!”
Nines and Arc were off like a shot towards the alleyway between the houses.
It took a few beats before Gavin and Dante scrambled after them.
“Nines!” Gavin called to their retreating backs. “You asshole! We talked about this!”
Dante -naturally faster- glanced back, sticking out his tongue. “Ha! Come on, speed up human!”
“Fuck off!” Gavin growled. It wasn't his fault that all his partners possessed inhuman abilities.
Nines and Dante were probably parkouring about like the showoffs they were. Thank the gods that Arc took pity on him and stayed within range so Gavin didn't get completely left behind. The alleyway took a few twists and turns before opening up into a large semi-empty lot, a few abandoned shipping containers littering the area. They arrived in the lot a minute or two after Nines did, Dante perched on his shoulders.
“H-hey.” Gavin panted. “What ha-have I...fuck...said about leaving me behind?”
Nines smirked at him. “Perhaps we need to rework your work-out regimen.”
  “Y-yeah? You can shove-”
“Our assailants fled this way. We didn't want them to get away.”
Placing his hands on his hips, Gavin frowned as he looked around. “Then were the hell are they? What do your android eyes see?”
Nines' lips thinned. “I'm...not entirely sure. There's some sort of interference.”
“Tch, so much for “advanced technology”.”
Nines tsked. “Detective, you know perfectly well...”
Dante rolled his eyes as the two began to bicker. Hopping off of Nines' shoulder, he toddled over and pat Arc's arm.
“Good job frying that collar buddy. You sensing anything?”
“You are welcome.” A slight smile graced his muzzle. “The growing frequency of these collars is getting...worrying I must say.” Sniffing the air he frowned. “To your other question. Yes and no. There is a faint trace of Digimon in the area, but it does not smell old. Just like the last time.”
“Right.” Dante looked around, knowing exactly what Arc was getting at. “Not good.”
Looking back at their humanoid partners, Dante rolled his eyes again. Nines was staring passively -with a hint of amusement- as Gavin scowled up at him. If this was any other time Dante would’ve tried to smash their stupid faces together because god damn.
“Yo! Deal with your UST some other time. We've got company.”
That snapped them out of their little stare down. They didn't even have time to be properly flustered as two Digimon materialized out of the darkness caused by the shipping containers.
Since the kidnapped Digimon were more frequently shown in their rookie or in-training forms on their missing reports. These Digimon being in their higher form made it harder to find the exact match; only a rough estimate given how chaotic 'volution lines tended to be. Then again, the glowing red collars they wore gave them a pretty good clue that these were more than likely their 'mons.
“Ah, hell!” A hidden voice groaned. Unfortunately, Nines couldn't pinpoint from where. “We were promised a rare prototype 'mon and a mutt that would fetch a good price!”
Another laughed mockingly. “And all we got was some half-blind devil and a shaggy mutt. What a bust!”
“How 'bout you come out and say that to my face!” Dante growled.
“Wait, wait.” The first voice hissed quieting down and completely ignoring the irate Impmon. “Take a closer look at the scruffy mutt, man. Wasn't Cyberlife experimentin' with those crazy x-antibodies or whatever?”
“No shit? That one of them?”
  “I think so.”
Nines' eyes narrowed, his sensitive hearing catching the thugs conversation. “They're planning something.” He muttered to his team.
“Tch.” Gavin's hand hovered over his CT-D.
All the while, the Digimon watched them with a blank, unblinking gaze. Standing unnervingly still. Certainly not the demeanor of a Digimon ready to fight.
“We can't attack them.” Nines hissed, nudging Gavin's arm. “They're the missing partner Digimon. I'm sure of that.”
“You think I don't know that?” Gavin hissed back, eyes darting around attempting to catch even a glimpse of the kidnappers. “They're going to attack, you know that. We can not, not fight back.”
“Don't worry. We'll go easy on them.” Dante winked.
Gavin gave Dante a warning look. “You better.”
Arc nodded. “Rendering them unconscious would be sufficient.”
At once, the Digimon unfroze and began to trot stiffly towards him.
“Shimaunimon and Gaogamon.” Nines scanners told him. “Both Champion level.”
“It's only two, this shouldn't take too long.” Gavin scoffed.
As if on cue a couple of flashes came from the far corner of the lot, behind a row shipping containers. A Blackgreymon and Peckmon joined the fray.
“Fuckin' really? Hey, you catch that Nines?” Gavin nodded towards the flash.
Nines frowned. Why would they give up their location so readily? “...Yes.”
“Oh?” Dante smirked, bouncing on his toes readily. “Four against two? I'm game!”
Then braced himself. “Let's do this Arc!”
  Arc nodded. “Let's go.”
  (Cue Brave Heart ( •̀ω•́ ))
Impmon digivolve to...   Gabumon digivolve to...
  “..Blackgatomon!”   “...Garurumon!”
~(too lazy to write battle)~
  “Lightning Paw!”
“Two down! Two to go!” Dante cried as he incapacitated the Blackgreymon, their control collar snapping.
Arc just shook his head at his rambunctious partnermon. “Actually, three more.” He growled, before bounding off to intercept the Gaogamon and newly digivolved Aquilamon, shooting off Howling Blasters as he went.
“Fuck! Another?! How many do these assholes have? What is this? Gotta kidnap them all?” Gavin rushed to gather the unconscious Pagumon to set them beside the Elecmon. “Hey! Remember to hold back, yeah? They're not fighting you willingly!”
  “Spiral Claw!”
“Yeah, yeah.” Dante tsked, dodging the Peckmon. “Don't have to tell me twice! Lightning kick!”
A Pinamon hit the ground. Scared and confused, but still conscious.
  “Grand Horn!”
“I wouldn't have to- Oh, fuck!” Gavin growled, summoning a gun to shoot electrified blasts to stun the Aquilamon. “-keep telling you! If you would listen to me once in a while!”
  “Cat's eye!”
Aquilamon dropped to the ground. Stunned and asleep.
Gavin eyed it, as he kneeled down to sooth the Pinamon. “That's better, I suppose, but for fucks sake. Nine and Arc are blood thirsty bastards and even he's going easy on these guys.”
“Who's blood thirsty? Would you like several examples of why you're confused?” Came Nines' voice from his ear-piece.
“I want them alphabetized and chronological, jackass. How goes it?”
At the start of the battle, while the kidnappers were presumably distracted with whatever the hell they were doing to the Digimon, Nines began to sneak over to their last suspected location. Nines convinced him that this was a good plan. Didn't mean Gavin didn't hate it though.
“Our suspects are hiding in an abandoned house near the light we saw, but if I go in now I have a 48% chance of success. They’re up to something. How is the fight going?”
“Damn it.” Looking around at all the collars littering the ground. “I...think we're done? Maybe?” He looked up as Arc set a Gaomon into the pile. “Does this seem way too easy? It's feels too easy. Did they just throw fodder at us? We'll come to you.”
Dante and Arc were panting, and a bit scuffed up yet neither looked all that exhausted despite the battles they just fought. Collared ‘mon were usually a bit harder to fight than this. That bad feeling from earlier came back full force.
  “No. You remember last time?”
Gavin's jaw tightened. Last time they successfully found a group of kidnapped digimon they were only able to recover two of the six. They let down their guard during the fight, only taking their eyes off them for a couple of minutes and in that time the digimon vanished back into the grip of the kidnappers.
 “Shit, I know but...”
Nines sighed. “Let's just-” An odd noise in the background caused Gavin to tense. “Oh, no.”
“What!?” A shiver raced down Gavin's back.
Dante and Arc bristled, their pupils pinpricked.
A crash. “I'm h-di-g back to-rds you! G-- --ady!” Interference caused the connection to crackle and then cut out.
  “Nines? Nines! Fuck!!”
  The air crackled with energy.
They waited. One beat. Then two. When Nines appeared around a corner, they all let out a relieved breath. Relief only lasted a moment. Arc shot forward with a snarl, Dante perched on his back.
Gavin began to run forward, then stopped. He looked back, then at Nines, then back again.
“Well be back. Promise.” He said to the Pinamon. “Keep watch.”
Pinamon chirped at him, and puffed up. “Right!”
Gavin nodded then took off after them.
A digimon appeared out of the shadows. “Karatenmon – Ulimate.” His CT-D pinged into his ear. This one had not one, but three collars.
'Fuck! How did they force it to go that high?'
They were going to have to digivolve again.
When was the last time Dante had to go past champion? A couple years at least. Could Arc even do it? The previous battle wasn't that hard but did they have the energy? Fuck!
Arc intercepted the flying 'mon before it could reach his partner. Slamming it to the ground with a freezing fang. He was quickly thrown off, skidding across the asphalt with a snarl. Dante yowled, leaping off of Arc's back.
  Lightning paw!
  Satori!
Karatenmon dodged out of the way at the last moment. Dante collided with the wall behind them with a pained yelp.
  “Nines!”
Nines looked over his shoulder to see his partner running towards them, his own weapon at the ready. “I told you to wait!”
“When do I ever listen to you!” Gavin called back.
Nines face twisted with displeasure. Turning his attention back to the battle, he was relived to see their partners back on their feet. “They need to evolve again!”
  “No shit!”
  Scorpiomon – Ultimate
Gavin skid to a halt, his eyes darting around. 'Where's the other one?'
The 'mon appeared out of the ground, a couple feet behind the distracted Nines. Gavin cursed and began sprinting towards him.
  “Behind you!”
Nines was able to dodge out of the way off the pincers. He changed his weapon to a gun, but it was a few seconds too late.
  Tail blade!
Gavin reached Nines just as the attack hit. Nines screamed. Blue blood splashed onto Gavin's face and front as the tail blade cleaved through Nines' shoulder and took a chunk off his side.
In a split second Gavin summoned his gun, firing electric blast after blast into Scorpiomon. They hissed as electricity coursed through their body.
  “Son of a bitch!”
They hit the ground, stunned. For now.
  Feather flare!
Arc hit the ground with a cry, sharp feathers sinking into his ice hardened fur. He had been distracted by his partner's pained scream, he wasn't able to dodge in time. Then they dived at him, ranking their claws down his side.
Arc snapped at the foe, catching a leg. Ice traveled from the bite, encasing it and the collar around their leg.
They screeched, flailing in Arc's grip. Their other foot slashing Arc’s face. After being released, they flew up. With a mighty flap of their wings, more sharp feathers were driven into Arc.
Arc de-digivolved with a pained cry.
  Lightning paw!
Dante's claws raked across Karatenmon's face as they readied another attack with their swords.
  Lightning kick!
The swords clattered to the ground -as did one of the collars- as Dante landed in front of Arc, snarling protectively.
Gavin dropped to his knees beside Nines. He was curled up on his undamaged side, a hand pressed against the spot where his arm used to be; the cut, exposed wiring sparked and popped dangerously. He whined in pain through clenched teeth.
“Oh fuck-fuck-fuck! No-no-no-no-no!” He slammed the emergency button on his CT-D then began to struggle out of his jacket. The operator barely got a word in. “Officer down, I repeat officer down! Get someone down here! Right fucking now! Sending location!”
The operator's words were muddled in Gavin's panic. He began to bring his jacket over the gaping wound.
“St-stop.” Nines groaned, his LED burning red. “'s Dangerous.”
“I don't fucking care!” He pressed his jacket to the wound, assisting Nines in stemming the blood. The knees of his jeans were already getting damp.
“I will, ha, will shut down i-in about 10 minutes. If I-ah fuck!”
The pain in Nines' voice made Gavin's heart constrict, and he couldn't do a fuckin' thing about it. His eyes darted around. Karatenmon was recovering from Dante's stun and he had no fuckin' idea how long the blasts he delivered to Scorpiomon would last -he was surprised they lasted this long-. Hell, he wasn't even sure if he had it in him to fire another round, Besides that Dante still needed to evolve, and he needed energy for that.
  “You'll be alright, you'll...”
A tiny pained, smile tugged at Nines' lips. “..yeah.”
Anger, sharp and sudden, struck him. “Dante! Digivolve! Now!”
“I know!” Dante snarled back, behind him Arc was pushing himself up shakily. “I'm trying!”
“Try harder! Nines is...we're going to die if you don't! DO IT!”
  “I KNOW!!”
Tumblr media
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAym9zRXOZs
Nines opened his eyes a blood-red light lit up the darkening lot; at first he thought it was back-up, but the lack of sirens dashed that hope. The light emanated from Gavin's CT-D, blinding in it's intensity. First surrounding Gavin then shooting out and enveloping Dante. Arc looked horrified. Even Karantenmon briefly looked as if they wanted to run.
  “Gavin...what...”
His voice was drowned out by the cries of pure rage.
Back under the collar's control, Karatenmon took the opportunity to dive for the vulnerable digivolving Dante. A blue blaster barley slowed it down. It didn't stop him from trying again and again.
With a deafening roar a huge, clawed paw shot out of the light sending their foe into a nearby container. The light died down and where Dante once stood was a huge, hulking lion-man digimon. His thick, jet black mane hung messily over his face. From the darkness his burning, blood red eyes glowed hauntingly bright. Another roar of pure anger, then he was charging the Karatenmon.
  Sato-augh!
The last collar had snapped with that attack. Gavin had to call Dante off.
Nines pushed himself up slightly without resistance, the hand previously pressing the jacket down was now lax as all his focus was on Dante.
“Get them!” Gavin snarled. His eyes had taken on the same horrifying glow.
Nines knew he shouldn't be moving so much, the more Thirium he lost the faster his timer towards shut down went. He was past caring through. He had to get through to his partner.
  Necrotoxic claw!
Karatenmon was barley to block the attack with their swords.
“Gavin! Stop!” Nines reached out his hand and gripped his partner's arm, shaking him.
Nothing. He was too entranced with the fight.
“Gavin! Snap out of it!” He tried again, tugging him forward and nearly unbalancing himself in the process.
This time, Gavin's eyes -red and burning as they were- locked with his briefly; it was unsettling. Sanity returned for a second before a sound behind them grabbed his attention. The ugly snarl twisted his face once again as he brandished his weapon.
“Try it! I fucking dare you!”
  Stinger su-augh!
A roar and a lion head shaped blast was shot.
  Blue blaster!
The attacks sent Scorpiomon flying back, their two collars shattering and clattering to the ground. Karatenmon was kneeling on ground, a sword thrust into the ground to keep themselves upright. They had won and the digimon were freed. They were also confused and terrified.
But Dante was still out for their blood. Gavin snarling right along with him.
Nines then noticed blood dribbling down Garvin's cheek. When had that happened? That's when he noticed the flying feathers from the scared Karatenmon, the origin of the cut on Dante's maw. Dante roared and so did Gavin. It suddenly hit Nines that they were linked in a way he'd never seen. They were lost in their combined pain, fright and rage. It would burn them both out if they weren't stopped.
“Arc!” Nines called, he used his grip on Gavin's arm to both pull himself up and to knock Gavin off balance; Gavin fought against his grip. “We need to knock some sense into them!”
After sending another purposely weak blast at Dante, he looked as his humanoid partner and nodded hesitantly.
Nines' CT-D flared with white light, then shot over into Arc. He pushed as much energy as he could spare into it – many overflowing emotions passed between the two of them. Pain, determination, fear...love.
“Gabumon digivolve to...Garurumon digivole to...”
“...Bladegarurumon!”
Arc brought his swords up just in time to block the attack aimed at Karatenmon. Claws screeching as they hit the golden blades. “Dante! Please! Snap out of it!” he growled.
Ah. So that wasn't the best idea. Nines saw his time drop from 4 minutes to 2 and a half. Damn.
Gavin froze. A strangled noise of conflict breaking through the blind rage.
Good, he needed this opening. “Look at me Gavin.” he pressed his bloody fingertips to Gavin's cheek. Wide eyes darted to his, the burning less intense -he knew one wrong move could ignite it again.
“Good boy.” He breathed in relief. “Now listen to me. I need to shut down on my own, if I’m forced then, well...I need you to calm down, so I can do that. Come on love, focus on me. Breathe.”
Gavin let out a shuttering breath.
  Necrotoxic claw!
Another screech of metal and a set of growls.
“No.” He ordered firmly, moving to grip Gavin's jaw as his head began to turn. “Don't look.”
Gavin blinked, as if coming out of a daze. Slowly but surely coming back to himself. The horrid light fading away.
“Just focus on me. There you...Ugh..shit.” He hissed, teetering over.
Gavin caught him before he could hit the ground, his voice rough from screaming it hoarse. “Fuck. I-I didn't..I lost control, I...” He shuttered, breathing ragged. “I didn't know you could feel pain.”
Nines snorted bitterly. “Nearly being sliced in half...Is...ah...fuck!”
He pressed his face into Gavin's thigh, groaning in pain as Gavin put pressure on the wound.
Head clearer and the overwhelming rage in check for now, Gavin dared to look up. A crow-like digimon was cradling a clam-like digimon, while they watched the battle warily. Dante...Dante was merciless, blind with the rage Gavin himself had been entrapped in only moments before. Sparks flew from Arc's blades as tried his best to defend against the blows. He didn’t know how long Arc could keep that up.
“Dante!” Gavin called but it was in vain, his voice was shot and Dante was too far gone. He didn’t even seem to recognize Arc now.
Nines shuttered under his touch. “I’m going to shut myself down for now.”
With his free hand, he blindly soothed back Nines' fringe. He couldn't pull his attention away from his partner. “Y-yeah. Do what you have to. They'll be here soon.”
Nines went limp, his breath evening out. His burning-red LED fading to soft white.
The blood-chilling roars nearly drowned out the approaching sirens.
“You'll be alright Nines.” Gavin promised. “Please be alright.”

August Media Madness
Well, August may have sucked for me personally, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t keep track of all the media I consumed this month! And spoiler alert, I watched a lot of movies involving adorable talking bears. Although, I have a feeling that as soon as the fall television premieres start, I’ll be watching a lot less movies.
July’s media
Movies!
Dear Evan Hansen
Thank you bootlegs. This isn’t a movie, but I didn’t want to make a separate category for plays when I’ve only seen one this month. Anyway, if you haven’t heard of it, Dear Evan Hansen involves an incredibly anxious teenage boy who is tasked by his therapist to write motivational letters to himself. Unfortunately, Connor Murphy, an angsty boy who goes to Evan’s school sees one of the letters, takes it, and promptly decides to kill himself, with the letter still on his person. Everyone ends up thinking he and Evan were friends and that this letter was a suicide note that Connor wrote to Evan...and a beautiful fake gay relationship friendship was born. Call me basic as hell, but I’ve watched this show twice now, and listened to the soundtrack more times than I can count, and it’s turning into my favorite musical. There are so many important messages in it, and it takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. Every character does good and bad things, and no one is blameless or innocent...except maybe Zoe Murphy. If anything just listen to the soundtrack. 10/10
Tumblr media
Night on the Galactic Railroad
Cats...on a mystical train...This seems like the kind of movie they would show you in film school. Very dull plot and characters with the themes being the main takeaway. What even is the plot of this movie? Darker, grittier, furry version of the Polar Express? Incredibly boring slightly more religious version of Over the Garden Wall? I just kept watching it because the main character looks like a cat version of Kagayama Tobio in middle school...cat-gayama. 4/10
Paddington
An adorable bear from South America travels to London and gets into all sorts of trouble with an English family. It’s very charming and sweet, and the aesthetic in this movie is on point, like Wes Anderson directed a children’s movie. This is one of those movies you hear about where everyone loves it, and you think it can’t possibly be that good, but then you watch it and you were wrong! So wrong! 10/10
Paddington 2
Naturally. This time an adorable South American bear goes to prison, and his family tries to clear his name. Again, A+ aesthetic and imagery, but I think I preferred the plot of the first movie a little more because everyone was all together. 9/10
Christopher Robin
Do you like Winnie the Pooh? Do you like jaded adults finding happiness in their lives again? Do you think the movie Hook had a good premise but was extremely long and kinda boring and could have been a better movie with a little tweaking? Well this is the movie for you! Christopher Robin has grown into an overworked adult, and his old friend Winnie the Pooh inadvertently helps him reconnect with his wife and daughter (and also his inner child) just by being the sweet, clumsy, dry humored bear we all know and love. I was so skeptical of this movie at first, and I was absolutely blown away by how funny and meaningful it was. 100/10
The Road to El Dorado
Two lovable Spanish con men named Miguel and Tulio are accidentally swept away on a journey to the fabled city of El Dorado, where everything is made of gold. Once they reach the city, the locals believe they’re gods due to an (un)fortunate series of coincidences, and the con men try to keep up the charade with the help of the best character in the movie, Chel (who I’m pretty sure caused an entire generation of lesbians’ sexual awakening). This is one of my favorite animated movies of all time and one of the reasons I wish Dreamworks would go back to their 2D animation days, where the visuals and music were just as stunning as 3D movies are now. This movie is a classic, and I desperately want a sequel! 10/10
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before
When Lara Jean thinks it’s a good idea to write 5 secret love letters to 5 boys that she’s had crushes on over the years, everything is fine until her little sister mails the letters to all the boys (because even a 6th grader knows Lara Jean is lonely and emotionally stunted as fuck). This is a Netflix original movie that was adapted from the book by Jenny Han...which I haven’t read, but now I really want to. Overall, this was super cute, but I wasn’t really crazy about the boys. They weren’t horrible people or anything, and they never pressured Lara Jean or made fun of her for being “innocent”, but they were just kind of bland. I’m much more interested in the other boys we didn’t see in the movie! But the family relationships were so heartfelt, Lara Jean’s fashion sense is AMAZING, and the acting/casting was awesome. 8/10
Tumblr media
Summer Wars
I...don’t even know how to describe the plot of this one. A teenage boy named Kenji goes on a country holiday and pretends to date an acquaintance of his in order to impress her enormous family...but it’s really about an AI that becomes sentient and wants to mess up the world through this universal internet program called OZ that’s kind of like a mashup of Facebook and Second Life...but actually no it’s about family sticking together and using a Japanese card game to save the world…but apparently it’s got the same plot as the Digimon movie because they’re both directed by Mamoru Hosoda. Yeah...
Guys, I have a confession to make...this has always been my favorite Mamoru Hosoda movie. Everyone falls all over themselves saying Wolf Children is the best Mamoru Hosoda movie, and that’s great for them but it doesn’t even come in second for me. Summer Wars means a lot more to me personally because I come from a big extended family, and when I first saw this movie, I was blown away by how accurate the family dynamic was. There are so many characters, but everyone has their own personality. Not to mention the music makes the summer atmosphere so on point. And I’m not going to lie...I bawled like a fucking baby the first time I saw this movie. So anyway, I like Summer Wars more than Wolf Children, thanks for coming to my TED talk. 10/10
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Unappreciated researcher Milo Thatch goes on an expedition to find the lost city of Atlantis.
Okay, there are two kinds of Disney fans in this world: Treasure Planet fans, and Atlantis fans. And I will support Treasure Planet as the best underrated vaguely steampunk inspired Disney movie until you can pry my 15 year old dvd copy away from my cold dead hands. But Atlantis is pretty good too. I could write essays comparing the two and why both of them should be successful but weren’t. My main problem with it is that the characters are great, but I feel like we don’t see enough of them, and as a kid a lot of the humor went by so fast that I completely missed it. Also the glowing eyes and spirits taking over the Atlantian princess’s body freaked me the fuck out as a child. NEVERTHELESS! This really is a great movie, with extremely well developed lore and well designed characters that chills me to this day. 8/10
Deadpool 2
The merc with a mouth is back, and man there’s so much going on in this movie I won’t even try to explain the plot. I literally had to go back and add this in because I was so into this movie when I was watching it that I forgot to write it down! Even though I really liked this sequel, I think I liked the first one better, just based on how much I laughed. There was so much going on plot wise, but it really seemed to work for this movie. There were also a lot of great new characters (Domino is my favorite character of the franchise now), but since there was so much stuff going on, a lot of jokes and plot lines were sort of hit and miss. Anyway, I’m sure everyone’s seen this one by now but just in case, I highly recommend it. 9/10
Books!
The Adventure Zone Graphic Novel: Here There be Gerblins by Clint McElroy (technically all the McElboys) and Carey Pietsch
Yeah yeah, for anyone who doesn’t know I’m Adventure Zone trash okay. TAZ is a DnD podcast where 3 brothers and their father create one of the most famous campaigns in history involving three idiot adventurers going on a quest to find a missing person and getting sucked into a much larger grand plan to protect the world. This graphic novel is a visualization of the first arc. I don’t even really like Here There be Gerblins all that much, and yet here I am. Oh well, the art was amazing, and of course I already knew the story. But it was kind of hilarious to see the name changes they had to make to some of the characters and places. I was a little disappointed that the ending was so rushed, and we don’t really spend time around the moon base before The Director is in our face changing the Lunar Interlude parts but whatever. 10 dead gerblins/10
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
When a disease that only affects children kills off nearly all the kids on the planet, the survivors are left with supernatural powers and are taken away to concentration camps in order to “protect” the public. I’ve been wanting to read this for a long time, and since the movie just came out I thought it was the perfect time. This is one of those books that some people adore and some people hate. I thought it was just okay. For everything that I didn’t like, there was something to make up for it. Personally, I felt that Bracken focused on the wrong part of the story. Everything takes place years after this disease has come, and I think it would have been more interesting to see everything from the children’s points of view when this disease was first starting. I would focus on each different character as a child and how they wound up in their respective camps. Oh well, there’s way too many pros and cons  that I could delve into, but you like the YA dystopian genre then I say go for it. I didn’t like it enough to read the other two books (not yet anyway). 7/10
TV Shows!
Camp Camp
You know how there are summer camps that specialize in science, or acting, or space, or whatever? Yeah Camp Camp is about a summer camp that throws literally everything you can think of into one summer camp. If you don’t believe me, just listen to the theme song. Seriously though this is one of the best shows I’ve watched all year, but boy howdy this is not one for young children. It’s like Gravity Falls and Rick and Morty had a baby! Anyway, the characters are both surprising and hilarious. David the camp counselor (voiced by Miles Luna) is genuinely likable when you think he’d be the most annoying person on the planet, and the kids are so accurate it’s scary. Also Yuri Lowenthal is in it. And Griffin McElroy has a recurring role where he plays A GHOST! I’ve never been into Rooster Teeth stuff, but they have a winner with this one. 10/10
Tumblr media
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
After her husband leaves her, Midge Maisel gets super drunk, goes on stage, and gives a hilarious rant about her relationship at a small comedy/talent club and somehow gets sucked into becoming a rising comedian as a woman in the 1950s. It’s good. Great acting pretty funny, but Midge and her agent/manager Susie are the only likable characters. Everyone else just kind of...sucks 8/10
Voltron Season 7 (spoilers)
Okay, I know everyone had mixed feelings about this season, but I did come out liking a lot of it. It had a lot of flaws (I really thought it would be Shiro’s season, and man was I wrong), but this is the sort of thing we can’t really judge until the last episode of the series is finished. I like to think of the positives: the action was amazing as usual, HUNK IS GETTING MORE AND MORE DEVELOPMENT EVERY SEASON, I refuse to believe the team introduced Adam just to have him killed off immediately so he’s still alive in my mind, we get to see everyone’s reunions with their families, the lost in space episode was cool, and say what you want about the game show episode, but I loved it! There were a lot of good things so it was easier for me to look past the...not so great aspects of the season. 7/10
Galavant
A musical comedy mini series involving a renowned medieval hero named Galavant on a quest to rescue his ex girlfriend from her “evil” husband King Richard. But maybe she doesn’t want to be rescued. Well, that’s just the first season. It’s best to go in knowing as little as possible. I remember liking it when it first came out, and it’s still pretty cute...but sometimes I feel like it’s trying too hard. A lot of the music isn’t really...memorable, but the characters are likable so it’s still worth the watch. 8/10
Disenchantment
Speaking of medieval comedies...Princess Bean doesn’t want to get married, mystical elf Elfo doesn’t want to live in an enchanted forest where everyone is happy all the time, and Bean’s personal demon Luci just wants to watch people suffer. Honestly, I wasn’t very into this show at first, but something compelled me to just keep watching, and by the end I was totally into it! This is one of those shows where you think there isn’t going to be a plot, but then the last few episodes come up and smack you in the face! 7.5/10
Tumblr media
Round Planet
A documentary parody...mockumentary...satire...That’s really not a great way to describe it. It’s a nature documentary with funny commentary. I like nature shots and animals so I liked it, but there’s a lot of tangents and running jokes and British references that sometimes don’t land. Oh well, if you like unconventional documentaries, just watch it. 8/10
Honorable Mentions
DnDnD: I don’t think I’ve ever talked about this podcast before, but there’s a DnD podcast made by Practical Folks (aka the Drunk Disney youtube channel). It’s pretty good! I want an Adventure Zone crossover now!
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: Every time I think I’m out, it pulls me back in. I finally got the DLC and spent most of this month playing this freaking game AGAIN!
The Heathers soundtrack: I finally listened to the Heathers musical soundtrack...and I didn’t love it. There are some good songs in it, but overall I’m unimpressed. And I never could really get into the plot, I’ve always thought it was really weird and over dramatic.
Legendary by Stephanie Garber: I’m about halfway through this book, which is the second in the Caraval series. And it’s pretty good! More on that next month.

Blind
Title: Blind
Category: DIgimon
Rating: T
Pairing: Ami/Arata at the end
Summary: Ami was the outsider of the five original friends, she was only an experiment that was successful while the beta test wasn’t. When she had a half-cyber body, no one could figure out how she was so positive. She was that way because she saw something she’s only dreamed of seeing.
Disclaimer: I don’t own any rights to the Digimon Franchise
~~Story Begins~~
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
Ami wanted to shut that alarm clock off, it was too loud, to close to her. Her fingers twitched and then voices, unfamiliar voices except for one, they were talking fast, too fast for her groggy mind to understand. She slowly opened her eyes and stared.
Was her eyes open?
She felt herself blink, eyelashes touching her face as she blinked.
Black. Darkness.
“Ms. Aiba, can you hear me?” a voice asked. “Blink once for yes and blink twice for no.”
Ami blinked once, tried to sit up but she felt heavy, then it came back to her. She no longer had a half-cyber body, she was back in her physical body. This is why she’s only met with darkness once she opened her eyes. She had no eyesight, lost it at the age of three, an age where she didn’t remember colors, shapes, she doesn’t even know how her own mother looks like and every time her mother comes home, she has to feel how her mother looks like now.
She’s blind.
“Do you remember what happened?”
Eaters, Royal Knights, Yuuko, Yuugo, Nokia, Arata, Kyoko, Pete, Connect Jump, Alphamon, Digimon, Suedo.
Ami blinked once again before sitting up, something was covering her mouth, she wanted it off. “I can talk,” she said hoarsely, cracker, her mouth was dry. Than all of sudden like her prayers have been answered, whatever was covering her mouth was removed. “Thank you.”
“Your welcome. You are at Central Hospital and you are last victim of EDEN Syndrome to wake up,” the familiar voice said.
Ami closed her eyes, focusing on the person’s breathing, it sounded familiar too.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
That explains the beeping, it wasn’t an alarm clock but a heart monitor.
“Is Yuugo okay?” she asked. She wanted water but she wasn’t going to let them help her drink. She’s blind but she’s not helpless.
“He’s fine, in rehab now. Most of the victims were able to leave the day they woke up,” this person who hasn’t introduced himself said.
“What do I need to do to get out of here?”
“Just some exercises, being able to keep food and liquid down. Uh...would you like-”
“I don’t need help,” Ami said. “I just need someone to tell me where the glass, plate, and silverware are located without being a smart mouth along with what I am going to be eating and where they are located on the plate.”
“Okay, we’ll get someone to bring you a glass and some food before we do the exercises,” the person said and Ami finally put the pieces together over who this person is. “I’ll go contact Mr. Kamishiro, I’m sure his son and daughter would love to -”
“It will be hard to contact Mr. Kamishiro when you are him,” Ami said interrupting the CEO again. It was a bad habit she had, she didn’t do it much, only when she felt like people were disrespecting her which was quite often. “Can you contact Mrs. Mochi please?”
“Of course, you are the patient,” Mr. Kamishiro said. “How did you know it was me?”
“Your breathing pattern matches Yuuko’s but your voice almost sounds like Yuugo’s. Can you please not tell your children about me being blind? They don’t need to know.”
Ami couldn’t stand the thought of them treating her differently than what they did. She wanted them to least remember her for who she was when she was part digital. She wanted them to remember her in a good light. She closed her eyes, fighting back the tears, she wants none of them to see her as a person whose blind, but someone who they could count on.
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
A hand patted her head causing her to open her eyes. “I won’t let them know that you are awake until after you have been discharged. I’m sure you have a different set of memories than what I have over EDEN Syndrome, but I do know that I owe you so much gratitude for bringing my son back to me.” She lifted her head at him, even though she couldn’t see. “Thank you. I know it’s not much, and it will not truly repay you for saving my son, but I have an appointment made for you to see if eye surgery is possible.”
“Mr. Kamishiro, I don’t deserve to be rewarded, Yuugo is a friend of mine,” Ami said.
“I know, but please accept it, because I truly don’t think you realize how many lives you saved,” he said kindly. “Also as a token of my gratitude for helping Yuuko come out of her shell and actually enjoy her young life instead of worrying about my business.”
“But - “
“If you won’t accept it, then I guess I can call Yuuko, let her know that you are awake and I’m sure you can picture what’s going to happen next.”
“Fine, I’ll go to the appointments,” Ami said looking down. “Thank you, but I wish I could have helped everyone sooner.”
Another pat on her head before Mr. Kamishiro left, leaving Ami alone with her thoughts and -
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
Hours later, Mrs. Mochi and her son Ryota, took Ami home. Ryota hugging and crying Ami the whole entire time, proclaiming on how much he missed her at school and hanging out with her.
Sakutaro Kamishiro was sitting in his office working on some documents when he received the phone call he’s been expecting from his daughter. “Hello?” he answered.
“Father! Why was we not informed Ami is awake and got released?” Yuuko asked angrily.
“She woke up today and asked for me to refrain from telling you that she was awake,” he said.
Nokia appeared on the screen now, “Why? Did she forget us?”
“No, she knew who I was without me introducing myself,” he said. “She has her reasons.”
“Which are?” Yuugo asked as Yuuko got back on the screen.
“I am not at liberty to say, however the four of you can figure it out. You are all amazing hackers, no?”
The call ended and Arata crossed his arms, this wasn’t a good day for any of them, and Ami had some serious questions to answer whenever they find her.
A week later, Ami was walking down the sidewalk with Sakura. Ami was laughing about what Sakura was telling her about the way Ryota was acting without Ami being in school. Ami didn’t notice it but Sakura was looking at her, a concerned expression on her face.
“You keep forgetting, don’t you?” Sakura asked.
“What do I keep forgetting?” Ami asked back confused.
“That we care about you because you are a friend,” Sakura said.
“Sakura!!” a voice yelled and Ami sighed.
Click click. Click click.
Nokia was running towards them from behind, when she got closer her running stopped slowly as she walked and then stopped. “No way, is that - “
“Hello Nokia,” Ami said turning around as Nokia stood behind them. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
“Ami!” Nokia said shocked. Ami felt arms wrap around her neck and her chin was on Nokia’s shoulders. “You idiot! You stupid idiot of a jerkface! I don’t know whose worse of being a jerkface, you or Arata. Do you have any idea how worried we have been?”
Ami felt a little wetness on her neck, than the smell of salt was mixing with the scent of oranges and daisies, “Are you crying, Nokia?” Ami asked not hiding her surprise.
“Of course I’m crying!” Nokia exclaimed. “We’ve been worried about you, especially Arata! You should have seen him, should see him now! He’s even more distraught due to Kyoko’s reaching out to him and having her tell tell him that someone recommended her to him to be her assistant.”
“Did he accept?” Ami asked.
“Yes, he accepted it,” Nokia said pulling away from Ami. “He wasn’t too pleased about it but he accepted it. So why did you give up the job? You was excellent at it, I mean Arata is just as good as a cyber sleuth as you but - “
“Nokia,” Sakura said. “Ami is -”
“I’m blind,” Ami said for Sakura who was unsure and uncertain about saying it. “I can’t see nothing but darkness. I would make for a terrible sleuth.”
“Your blind?” Nokia asked shocked. “But, but -”
“Sakura,” Ami said. “I’m awfully thirsty and I need to talk to Nokia alone.”
“Of course, would you like anything Nokia?” Sakura asked.
“No thank,” Nokia answered.
Step. Step. Step. Step.
“The reason as to why I was able to see before was because I had a half cyber body,” Ami said grabbing Nokia’s arms. She moved her hands down to Nokia’s hands and clasped them, “Nokia, I need you to check something out for me.”
“What do you need?”
“I want you to see if you can hack into me,” Ami said. “I know I’m asking a weird favor from an acquaintance.”
“Excuse me? We are friends! We will have girls sleepovers where we gossip about all of the latest important information including your crush on Arata -” Ami felt the heat rise on her neck, “late night ping-pong matches, we WILL break through the wall because it is there together!”
“Nokia!” Ami said shocked.
“I am a friend, you are a friend,” Nokia said. “We are friends.”
“Please don’t tell the others,” Ami said. “I don’t want them to think differently of me.”
Nokia stared at Ami, she’s never heard the redhead sound so small and not confident. “If that’s what you want, but Ami, we wouldn’t think any less of you. Especially Arata, he would feel -”
“No! No one needs to know right now,” Ami said. “I’m sure they will eventually find out and just think lowly of me and of themselves.”
Nokia hugged Ami tightly, “I won’t tell anyone that I am now in contact with you,” Nokia said. She doesn’t know much about Ami’s life but she could tell that someone who she was close to left once they found out she was blind.
Three days later, Nokia was sitting at K-Cafe with Arata who was looking at her trying to figure out what she was saying.
“Can you repeat that?” Arata asked.
Nokia crossed her arms, “If Ami was here, you would understand what I was asking.” She said meaning it literally and figuratively.
“Ami wouldn’t use crazy descriptions,” Arata said with a quick glare before his expression went back to normal and he let out a sigh. “Speaking of Ami, she’s good at hiding. No one has seen or heard from her since she got out of the hospital.”
To Nokia, Arata was a lot like her older brother but ten times sweeter than her actual brother. Shocking she knows, but Arata does care about them. He may start saying random information and facts but he takes the banter easily returning it. It broke Nokia’s heart seeing him trying to hide the sadness he’s feeling because Ami wasn’t around.
Much like Ami’s clothing, Ami was the bright sunshine in their lives. Now, with her being out of touch with them, their lives were dreary weather with nasty grey clouds.
“So, this case you brought to me?” Arata asked.
“Can you hack into something that is like a digital mind to bring back one of its senses on this human-like android thing?”
“So you want me to hack into its hard drive?”
“No, there isn’t any hardware! Just a digital mind.”
“If it is an android, there is a hard drive. You cannot have a android with just a digital mind.”
“It’s not an android like robotic android but close to it,” Nokia said.
“That’s the point where I get confused,” Arata stated. “Can you be clearer on it?” Nokai shook her head, Arata watched her. “Is this case for you or for someone else?”
“I want to help one of my friends out without them, knowing I took it as a case,” Nokia explained. Ami will most definitely kill her if she finds out. “They’ll be mad at me if they found out.”
“Than I can’t do it,” Arata commented. “If you want it to be a secret and if you can’t give me any more details, than it is impossible. I mean a picture or something of what you are referring to would help but you can’t give me even that. It could be something as simple as the wire work.”
Nokia sighed. She would try to attempt on what’s she’s asking Arata but she isn’t a geek like Arata nor is she as experienced as a hacker.
“I’m sorry,” Arata said. “I wish i could help, I really do, because knowing you this android thing you are referring too means a lot to you or to a friend of yours. But until I get more information, I can’t understand.”
That is why Arata is ten times better than her brother, he cares about her and would try to help her with it even from behind the scenes while her brother just shoves her away laughing.
Arata watched as Nokia lit up, an idea came to her and it was going to be an idea that’s really stupid, “Don’t worry about it! I’ll get you as much information as possible. Just be patient with me and I promise you, you won’t regret it.”
It’s been a month since that meeting with Nokia and being a cyber sleuth kept Arata busy. He was distracted from his missing friend, Ami, and he completely had a newfound respect for her, but right now, something else was a distraction for him.
It was pain and the cold, relentless rain soaking him and staining his white cut up coat with his blood, his ankle was throbbing just as much as his shoulder was and it slightly hurt to take deep breaths. A gang from his school ganged up on him, getting their revenge on him for busting a lot of their members, a lot of them leaders.
He was gripping the iron fence, trying to breath as he walked slowly towards his apartment that was a forty-five minute run away.
All of a sudden, he was no longer getting hit with the rain. He looked up to see an umbrella was over him all of a sudden. “What the hell?” he looked over and saw Ami standing next to him, a concerned, concentrating look on her face. “Ami!!”
“I guess you’re right,” Ami said with a small smile. “I’m too soft-hearted. Here hold this,” She offered him the umbrella, he took it letting go of the fence. Ami walked around him and wrapped the arm holding the umbrella around her neck. “We aren’t too far from my mom’s place. Mom should have a lot of first aids there as well.”
“He, thanks,” Arata said. “I would laugh but my god it hurts to breath. They did a number on me.”
Ami knows they did, she can hear his labored breathing pick up in hitch at certain spots, she can hear the pain in his voice, and the way he’s dragging his feet making a skid slash sound on the wet pavement. She can smell the strong iron from his blood, it was overpowering the scent of rain.
“Don’t talk,” Ami says gently as they approached a door of a small two story house. “Save your breath.” The arm around her neck tightened before relaxing. What was that? An involuntary twitch. A defensive mechanism? Was he truly that worried about her?
“Tell me not to talk,” Arata said as Ami unlocked the door, “You haven’t been in contact for over a month and you want me not to talk? You know you have so many questions that need to be answered. You vanished by choice!”
“I have reasons,” Ami said calmly as they entered the house. She took the umbrella from him and closed it. “Come on, kitchen is this way.”
“I want to know what those reasons are for,” Arata stated as he found himself sitting on a kitchen chair, watching Ami get the first aid out. “But...uh...thanks...again...y’know...for taking care of me...again. I must look pathetic to you.”
Ami just stared at him as she brought the first kit over. “You aren’t.”
“Hmm?”
“You don’t look pathetic nor are you pathetic,” Ami said. She moved some of her loose red hair behind her ear nervously. “I’m going to get the other first aid kit from upstairs and don’t thank me yet. You are going to hate me here soon.”
“How?”
“I’m about touch when I’m bandaging someone up,” Ami explained, she couldn’t see the small blush and annoyed look he was giving her. “So you will need to take your coat and shirt off. If you are wearing shorts or pants on underneath, you can leave them on. But...uh..I think you have a twisted ankle.”
“My shirt is staying on!”
Ami held back her giggle, even if she didn’t know what he looked like, she would find him cute. However, she knew most of the injuries were on his top part, the scent of blood was stronger there and if it was his legs, it wouldn’t be as strong.
“No, your shirt is coming off,” Ami stated. “You was clutching your shoulder out in the rain, plus I think you have fractured rib somewhere,” Ami explained. “Your shirt might have been stained if you outer clothes have blood on them. She walked up the stairs.
Arata took his bloodied clothes off, hissing at the pain in his shoulder, “Damn, she’s still so perspective about this,” he grumbled.
He heard a thud sound from above and he looked at the ceiling. He chuckled to himself slightly. He looked back down at the first aid kit, guess he could do it but he was a baby when it came to peroxide.
“Okay, I’m back,” Ami spoke bringing another first aid down with her. “What do you want me to work on first?” She was opening the first aid cut and getting everything out.
“Shoulder,” he grumbled. “Do you have any clothing I could possibly borrow?”
Ami shook her head, “No,  I don’t but I did call Nokia when I was upstairs and asked her to bring some of your clothing over.” She ran her hands over his shoulder. “Did she ever tell you?”
“She was in contact with you?” Arata asked anger within his voice. “Why her? Why not the rest of us?”
“Because Nokia saw me shopping with a mutual friend,” Ami explained. She used a wet wipe to wipe the dried blood away. “It’s not as deep as I thought the wound was. That’s good.”
“So, Nokia kept it a secret that -”
“Sting!”
“-she knew - God damnit, crazy, that goddamn sting!” Arata exclaimed feeling the harsh, burning, bubbling sting of peroxide disinfecting the wound.
“I warned you,” Ami said with a shrug. “Hold the cloth here.”
“I am NOT holding the stinging alcohol of death!” Arata snapped.
Ami gave him a pointed look, “You can hold it so I can wrap your shoulder and see if your ribcage is fractured before Nokia gets here or -”
“Fine, fine,” Arata grumbled holding the dreaded thing.
“I’m sorry if it’s not great,” Ami explained grabbing the gauze and bandage and started to bandage his shoulder, “I’m a bit rusty.”
Arata watched as Ami bandaged his shoulder, smoothing out any bumps that appeared, “It is a lot better job than what I would’ve done, you are so perceive.”
“I’m just sensitive with my skin,” she responded. “I like for it to feel as natural as possible.” She finished wrapping his shoulder. “I’ll get you some painkillers in a little bit, but how does that feel?”
“Amazing,” he said moving his shoulder. “Minus the soreness of the wound.” He took a sharp intake of breath as her hands ran down his chest, “What are you doing?”
Ami felt some of the rib bones give way a little when she pressed down gently, she did this all the way down, “Well, slightly cracked rib cage,” Ami said. “Better than what I thought. You are two for two so does that mean your ankle won’t be twisted?”
“You was checking out my rib cage?” Arata asked. He hated having his shirt off, girls seemed to love his slightly muscled chest and the old scars near his stomach, but Ami was acting like nothing was there.
“Yep, now your ankle, you was dragging one earlier,” Ami said.
“You don’t have to do all of this, I can do my ankle,” Arata said.
“Do you want to?”
“Sure, but how is Nokia bringing my clothes over?”
Ami shrugged, “I didn’t ask. I just figured you two are dating since she seems to be studying more.”
“What? No!” Arata said as he looked at his swollen ankle. “She keeps wanting me to take this weird case for her.”
“Weird case?” Ami asked before there was knocking.
“Ami! Let me in!” Nokia’s voice yelled. “Please, there is something I need to tell you!”
“It’s unlocked,” Ami said.
The door could be heard opening and shutting before Nokia peaked into the kitchen once she saw Ami, she ran over to her with a bag in her hand. “I’m sorry! I promise I didn’t say anything to Yuugo and Yuuko but they know!”
“I’m surprised they just now figured it out, it is on my file from the beta test,” Ami said.
“What do they know that I don’t know?” Arata asked.
Nokia looked over and handed the bag to Arata, “Here’s your clothes. Yuuko and Yuugo were messaging us in a group chat on Digi-line.”
“My digivice is broke,” Arata stated as he put a blue shirt on. “It got broke when I was getting beaten up.”
“So you don’t know?” Nokia asked.
“What don’t I know?” Arata asked. He hated feeling in the dark.
“Ami’s blind!” Nokia said before freezing up, her hands covering her mouth in surprise. “Oh gawd, I wasn’t supposed to tell! I’m sorry,” Nokia turned around and pushed her head into Ami’s chest as she hugged her fellow red hair friend. “I’m sorry, I’m sowwy!”
Ami blinked once, twice, before speaking, “Nokia, you are literally the first one who shared that information with no hesitation in telling that to someone in front of me.” They were small, but she heard tiny sobs and the smell of salt started to mix in with the overpowering scent of disinfectant. “Nokia, are you crying again?”
“I can’t help it! I get so emotional,” Nokia explained. “Here you are living life like you can see, not asking for any help and you do it with ease! You cook with ease too, I mean I have sight and I still have hard time cooking!”
Ami sighed, “Thirteen, close to fourteen years does that to a person,” Ami said. “Can you please let me go?”
The information finally registered within Arata’s mind, “You’re blind, Ami?” he asked.
“Yeah, been blind since I was three,” Ami said. “Nokia, let me go or I’ll force you to drink a full pot of my coffee.”
“Nope! Nope!” Nokia said letting go of Ami and went around the table. “So, Arata meet Ami. She’s the one who I have been asking about in my case.”
“What?” Ami and Arata asked together. Nokia found that adorable.
“Ami has a digital mind,” Nokia said.
“You mean to tell me that the android human like thing you’ve been referring too is Ami?” Arata asked.
“I’m an android? Ami asked tilting her head before shaking it. She had more important things to worry about instead of whatever Nokia was calling her. “You are so dead, Nokia!”
“Uh-oh,” Nokia said sweat dropping. “Oh, would you look at the time. I need to get going. Toodles!”
“Wait a minute!” Arata said standing up as Nokia ran out of the kitchen. His ankle started to bring him pain as he stood on it, “Gah!”
All of the anger Ami had left when Arata let out a pained yelp. Even now, knowing that she has no chance with him, she still cares. “You never did wrap your ankle up,” Ami commented as Nokia left. “However, you know now the reason as to why I wanted to vanish from your lives.”
“It’s a stupid reason,” Arata snarled at her with a glare. “Do you honestly think that we would treat you any differently, leave you, all because you can’t see?”
“I have my reasons!” Ami said wrapping her arms around her.
“They are stupid,” Arata said staring at Ami. “Just because you can’t see doesn’t mean your personality doesn’t, it means nothing except that you are a creative thinker and a fighter. You overcome obstacles that we don’t usually think of.”
Ami smiled and shook her head. “So, I’m an android?”
“She wanted to know if I could hack into a digital mind and make this android like human thing have it’s senses, that was the weird case. She was apparently talking about you.”
Arata watched as Ami sat down on the other end of the table. “All I wanted to know if any part of me was digital. I asked Nokia to try and hack into me,” Ami said with a sigh. “I don’t know why she cares so much about helping me get my sight back.”
“Because it’s Nokia,” Arata commented. “Ami, do you want your sight back?”
“In a way, yes. I mean, I was always scared of seeing the world. I only heard of the bad and I’ve learned how to take care of myself without help and not just rely on what I’m told to do. With me being blind, I couldn’t be a cyber sleuth like you, and I can’t see everything going on. I miss seeing you glare at Nokia, the nervous habits Yuuko has. The half cyber body it was a bittersweet experience,” Ami explained looking down at the table.
“Think about it,” Arata said sensing there was another reason as to why Ami wanted her sight back but not wanting to talk about it. “However, don’t eyes lose their color when they are blind? Why are yours still so blue?”
“My eyes were originally a darker blue, at least according to my mother,” Ami said.
Scrap. Scrap.
“Stupid ankle,” she heard Arata  say in a whisper and she mentally laughed.
“You should really wrap your ankle,” Ami said.
Step, drag. Step, drag.
“What are you doing?” Ami asked listening as the self-proclaimed geek moved closer to her.
“I’m trying to figure something out,” Arata commented.
“Oh?”
Ami felt the air around her move, than the small touch of his skin touching her face, “How did you know it was me who injured?”
“I didn’t until you spoke,” Ami said. Silence. Ami started to laugh, “I’m kidding. I’m not that crazy.”
“You could have fooled me,” Arata grumbled but Ami could hear the smile.
“Naw, I was actually passing by when I heard some people ran by laughing as they talk about how bad they had beaten you up,” Ami explained. “I’m surprised I even heard them considering how loud this rain is.”
“You know Yuugo and Yuuko are are going to demand to see you,” Arata said moving away from her.
“I know, I just hate the way people act after they find out I’m blind,” Ami explained. “I mean, Nokia has always been caring, her heart on her sleeve, but to ask you to do what she wants you to do is just as bad.”
“I’m still confused over that,” Arata stated. “Explain it to me.”
“It’s complicated, I’ll much rather tell Yuugo and Yuuko at the same time as you, if you don’t mind.”
“But yet, Nokia understands it.”
“Please,” Nokia’s voice was heard as the door opened and shut. Ami heard three different footsteps walk into the place. “Ami is going to kill me and so isn’t Arata.”
“Nokia was the one who thought of the description in the first place,” Ami said laughing. “Welcome back Nokia. Hello Yuugo and Yuuko.”
“Ami! You have a lot of explaining to do,” Yuuko said and Ami can imagine her firsts clenched together in front of her.
“I am more curious over how you knew it was us,” Yuugo said. “Nokia gave us a brief description over your condition, Arata. She left out the fact that your clothing is ruined,” Yuugo said pointing to the bloodied clothes still on the floor.
“I can always buy new ones, the digivice is going to be a bigger issue,” Arata said.
Ami giggled, “You two have different footsteps than Nokia or Arata, but they sound similar to each other and they sound similar to your father’s footsteps. Only since he wears heavier shoes, so his steps are bit more heavier.”
“So, Ami,” Yuuko said. “Why did you not tell us that you were blind?”
Ami furrowed her brow, Yuuko sounded scared, mad, worried, and concerned.
“Ami has a bad habit,” Nokia spoke. “I learned this through Sakura and her boyfriend - Ryota. It’s hard to believe it, considering how much she cares for all of her friends and everyone.”
“Nokia!” Ami said snapping at her.
“It’s true. Just so you know, I’m currently standing behind Arata. I’m using him as a shield,” Nokia said.
“Lucky me,” Arata grumbled.
“There is nothing to be ashamed about,” Yuugo said. “We all have our bad habits.”
“Ami-” Nokia said again, “keeps forgetting that her friends - us included- care and worry about her as a friend.” Ami looked down. “She just forgets that people do worry about her and it isn’t just because she’s blind, but that we genuinely care.”
“You forget that we care?” Yuuko asked angrily. “Do you have any idea -”
“Nokia gave me some details,” Ami said, “but I know from experience that sometimes upon knowing something that wasn’t previously known, people have a different image over that person. Plus, I’m not only blind but I also have a digital mind.”
“Digital mind?” Yuugo asked confused.
So, Ami explained everything from when she woke up and Alphamon was talking to her, explaining what they talked about and the options she had, how her digimon who she loved and cared for as family and how much they loved and cared for her returned allowed them to help her restore her data so she could return back to her body.
To Ami, the sound of the rain outside is deafening, no one said anything and she wonders if she should have stayed with Alphamon and with her digimon. If she stayed with her digimon, would she be erased from existence, like Suedo.
“Are you kidding me?” Arata asked breaking the silence. He scared her, she didn’t show it, but she wonders if she said her thoughts out loud.
Scrap.
“You mean to tell me that you wanted me to hack into Ami’s mind, to allow her to see? Are you crazy, Nokia?” Arata asked.
Ami blinked.
“Excuse me?” Nokia asked back. “It’s a great idea!”
“Yes, it is expect you never think about the consequences of what could happen,” Arata argued.
“Ami would be able to see, obviously!” Nokia said.
Ami tilted her head. “Are we missing something?” Yuugo asked.
“If you are, than I am too,” Ami answered.
Ami guesses that Yuuko and Yuugo can’t hear the hidden emotions that Arata and Nokia have within their voices. Ami isn’t even sure Arata and Nokia know about the emotions themselves. There isn’t any malice within the insults the two throw at each other. If she was anything like Nokia, Sakura, or even Lilly, she would tell her two friends to kiss already, but she’s not. She wasn’t - isn’t - brave enough to tell Arata that she has feelings for him, and even since Nokia knows about it. She wouldn’t mind the two dating as long as they were happy.
“How in the world is she going to explain to those who knows she’s blind that she can see all of a sudden?” Arata asked.
“Uhh...well, I figured since Ami’s good at thinking on her feet that -”
“You’ll just leave her to figure it out on her own?”
“Calm down,” Yuuko said. “I know it’s hard for you to talk with each other like normal human beings, but do try.”
“No, I mean, I’ve thought of some reasons that Ami could use,” Nokia said.
“How about if her eyes change colors and shape?” Arata asked. “Did that ever cross your mind since her digital mind is made up of different digimon?”
“Is that even possible?” Nokia asked.
“Yes,” Yuuko and Arata replied.
Ami just sighed and placed her arms on the table, resting her head on her arms. She didn’t know what time it was, but she was tired, and she had guests over so she couldn’t leave to go to her room and take a nap. Plus Arata still hasn’t bandaged his ankle.
She doesn’t know who is worse when it comes to using a first aid kit, Arata or her mother.
“Tired?” Yuugo whispered to her. She nodded. “When did you go to sleep?”
“Ten in the morning on 9-8,” Ami responded.
“You’ve been awake for over twenty-four hours,” Yuugo said with a sigh.
“Y’know,” Nokia said with a slight tease in her voice, “You seem more work up over her eyes than what she does?”
“I’ve calmed down,” Ami said not raising her head from her arm pillow. “Still it would have been nice if you asked if I wanted my sight back before you took it up as a case.”
“Well, I wanted it to be a surprise for you,” Nokia said.
“You don’t just surprise someone who has lived most of their young life in the dark with sight. It’s completely disorienting. Trust me on it,” Ami explained. “Besides, I have eye surgery soon, right Yuuko and Yuugo?”
“Yes,” Yuuko said. “That’s actually how we found out, was that Ms. Rei told us the good news about your surgery.”
“Besides to find out as to why you didn’t tell any of us that you are blind, we also came over to see if there was anyone who you would like to stay with after the surgery for two weeks,” Yuugo explained. “It would have been Yuuko and I but I start a new physical therapy around that time.”
“When exactly is her surgery?” Nokia questioned.
“Around December, her surgery is a week before New Year’s Eve,” Yuuko said.
“Sakura and Ryota are out,” Ami said. “Don’t want to ruin their holidays the first year they are together. I’ll be fine, I’m still going to be in darkness until the bandages come off.”
“I can’t,” Nokia said sadly. “I have to go to my grandparents house for the holidays. Do you have any idea how bored I’m going to be? They don’t have internet service there or anywhere nearby so I can’t play on my digivice or go to EDEN. They live out in the country on a farm, there isn’t any malls or shops nearby and there’s chickens!”
“Aww, too bad,” Arata commented and Ami heard the smirk in his voice. “The good news is that you’ll have fresh eggs every morning.”
“You seem so eager about it, how about you go in my place?” Nokia asked.
“I’ll pass, thank you,” Arata said back smartly. “I already have plans made as well and they don’t include a farm.”
“See, I’ll be perfectly fine,” Ami said moving her head up to rest her chin on her arms.
“No, see, I’m going to stay here with you for your surgery and all that,” Arata said. “My family likes to have these crazy parties that are more like Nokia’s kind, not mine.”
“Excuse me, what’s your idea of a party?” Nokia asked.
Ami couldn’t help but giggle as her two friends went back at it Yuuko laughed with her as Yuugo let out a sigh.
“Well, since Arata is staying here until he heals,” Yuuko said.
“What?” Ami questioned. She didn’t remember saying anything about that.
“When was this decided?” Arata asked equally confused.
“Just now, so brother and I are going to take Nokia and leave,” Yuuko stated.
“It must be hard to currently walk on that ankle,” her brother stated with amusement in his voice.
Scrap. Scrap.
Even in unison, the twins got up from the table. “What? But I don’t want to leave. It’s raining and I’m cold!”
“You’re leaving with us, No-ki-a,” Yuuko spoke.
Arata watched as the twins pulled Nokia out, “We’ll be back tomorrow, Ami,” Yuuko said.
“Okay?” Ami responded.
Nokia kept on struggling as the three left and Arata let out a sigh of relief. Nokia could be annoying a lot of the time but still naive to the world. That’s possibly why he looks at her like the younger sister he never wanted.
“You know,” Ami spoke to him. “She’ll have the cutest but biggest freakout if you kissed her.”
He turned his head and stared at her, wide-eyed. “What?”
Ami tapped her face, right under her ears. “I can hear what others can’t. The insults you two throw at each other aren’t filled with malice like everyone believes. I can also hear how you care for her underneath the fake anger, plus there’s Under Zero incident. So just kiss her, and wrap your ankle up. If I have to tell you again, I’m just going to do it.”
“Forget about my damn ankle,” Arata said. “Why in the world do you think I want to kiss that airhead?”
“I just explained it,” Ami said. “It’s not like I can do anything else, expect listen. Listening is essentially what I’m good at it.”
“Nokia is like the little sister I never wanted,” Arata explained with a chuckle. “I do have feelings for someone through, but they are completely out of my league.”
“Have you tried to tell her or do something to let her know your feelings?” Ami questioned. “Not going to lie, you don’t seem like one to care about leagues in the first place.”
Arata stared at her, “Eh, I think I’ve tried once.” He chickened out, he honesty tried it when he walked over to her earlier this day.
“What happened?”
“Why are you asking?”
“Honestly, Alphamon is currently interested in it. She leaves me alone most of the time unless something’s piqued her interest.”
“I got scared and pulled away.”
“That isn’t like you, Arata. Was she taken already?”
“No, I don’t think so. They keep their life private.”
“Like me, huh?”
“Yeah,” Arata scratched the back of his neck. “Maybe you can give me some advice over what I can do to win her over?”
Arata watched as her eyes glazed over with confusion before returning to normal. “Okay, I can try but wouldn’t the others be better suited for it?”
“Nope, Nokia is too girly, Yuuko is to elegant, and Yuugo wouldn’t even know where to begin. I think you are the more romantic type.”
“Our roles are switched,” Ami said with a chuckle. She thought about it for a minute. “Unworthy proposal and a letter pertaining the truth about a gentleman’s scheming ways.”
“What?”
“Oh, dear, please tell you that you have at least read Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice? Mr. Darcy and Ms. Bennett?”
“Nope, but how exactly did you read them?”
“Audio books. Pride and Prejudice plus the zombie version are the two I listen to the most,” Ami explained. “How in the world do you NOT know them?”
“It wasn’t a school assignment,” Arata said. “But onto the point of you helping me with romantic advice.”
“Amusement park is out considering you need a new digivice,” Ami said closing her eyes and thought about it. “How about going to see a movie? I can understand how that can be romantic or maybe if there’s no good movies around, a walk to the park? Of course, when your ankle gets better.”
Scrap. Scrap. Step, drag. Step, drag.
“No words of pain?” Ami asked.
“No, I remembered,” Arata said as Ami felt pressure on the back of her chair and she turned to hopefully face him, his warm slightly labored breathing fanning her face. She could smell the mint from his toothpaste. “Perhaps you didn’t hear me right.”
“Huh?”
“I believe I said that the girl I like is you.”
Ami felt her neck start to burn with a blush but before she could argue, his mouth was on top of hers, effectively silencing here and shutting down her mind. The pressure of his hands on her chair moved to her shoulder and the back of her neck, she could feel them tremble gently, thank goodness he was just as nervous about this as she is. The taste was minty but there was a tint of strawberries.
Strawberries was a weakness she had, Arata was another weakness so when the two were combined, she was completely gone.
Arata felt Ami gently grab his shirt and pull him closer as she started to kiss him back. Arata pulled away and rubbed his nose against hers.
“Arata?” she questioned in a small voice.
“I stand by my statement that you misheard me,” Arata spoke.
Ami giggled and she couldn’t see the smile on Arata’s face or how his eyes were filled with warmth.
Two weeks after New Year, Arata was slowly unwrapping Ami’s bandages from her eyes.
“It’s okay, Arata,” Ami said reaching up to grab her boyfriend’s (not officially boyfriend but totally boyfriend) arms. “Calm down, everything will be okay.”
“You’ve been hanging around Nokia, unsupervised,” Arata grumbled placing his forehead against hers.
“I’ve been unsupervised with hanging around you these past weeks, if anything, you should have rubbed off on me,” Ami said.
“So says the girl who made me listen to two books,” he grumbled back playfully.
“You enjoyed them, especially the zombie version.”
“How could I not?”
Ami laughed as Arata continued unwrapping her bandages. She wasn’t telling Arata that she could see him every so often. She wanted to surprise him, the least she could do after he so dutifully took care of her.
Arata didn’t even have the last bandage completely off her eyes before Ami reached up, grabbed his face and kissed him.
“I told you,” Ami said with a smile as the last bandage slowly fell to the floor in between them. “It will be okay. You should really learn to trust me.”
Arata stepped on the fallen bandage as he pulled Ami closer playfully sneering at her, “You knew and didn’t tell me?”
“I wanted to surprise you, considering all that you did for me,” Ami explained. “Every so often, I could see you as you unwrapped the bandages.”
“I see,” Arata said gently grabbing her chin, “So I don’t need to sit with you while watching two movies that are based off of your two favorite books, now do I?”
“No, you need too,” Ami said with a whine as her eyes closed allowing Arata to kiss them lightly.
Arata chuckled. “If you insist.”
Ami hugged him tightly and smiled, “You know, you didn’t have to rent or buy them for me.”
“Brought, and I know,” Arata said hugging her back. “But this way I can distract you throughout the movies.”
“Maybe Nokia is right, you are a jerkface.”
“Possibly, possibly not.”
Ami giggled and kissed Arata lightly, “However, you are my jerkface and I wouldn’t try to change a thing about you.”

The Hero has Arrived: The Rising of the Shield Hero Premiere is Ready to Take Us to Another World!
Finding out that you’re a mythical hero summoned from another world is probably confusing enough, but what happens when you find out your legendary weapon is… a shield?! In Rising of the Shield Hero, that’s exactly what happens to Naofumi Iwatani, who ends up summoned to a mysterious new world after examining a book he found about four legendary heroes. Naofumi has a bit of an unfortunate and unusual start to his adventure in another world, as he doesn’t seem to be a flashy, heroic figure like the other three summoned people are--instead, he finds himself without any adventuring companions, no offensive weaponry, and so many unanswered questions!
Rising of the Shield Hero is based on the popular light novel series of the same name, with 19 published volumes, and is currently published in English by One Peace Books. The upcoming anime will start in January 2019, but at Crunchyroll Expo, fans and attendees were able to take a sneak peek to see what the buzz over this isekai series was all about! Before the nearly hour long first episode premiere, there was a Q&A panel with Junichiro Tamura, the producer, and Kevin Penkin, the composer of the show’s music. Read on to see what they had to say, along with some thoughts of the premiere!
What did you feel when you first heard that you’re going to be working on The Rising of the Shield Hero?JT: Rather than getting told to be working on Shield Hero, I pitched the project after I heard how popular how popular Shield Hero is overseas, so I’ve been thinking a lot about the overseas market and trying to make stuff that you all will enjoy as well as Japan.
KP: I’ve been working on Shield Hero for over a year now, which is pretty crazy; it’s a pretty big project! We were just finishing up another show called Made in Abyss before, and as that show was basically coming out, the staff was like “Let’s do another one!” and I was like “Oh, okay!” (laughs) It was maybe like a week where I wasn’t doing anything, and then, all of the sudden I had to go and work again. It’s been a good ride so far! It’s super intense, but totally worth it.
Since you both have been working on this for quite awhile, any interesting moments that you can share while working on Shield Hero?JT: The episode that we’re going to watch here, episode 1, I’ve actually been working on it for several months; it took a lot to get it perfect, so I hope you all will enjoy it!
KP: The PV for Shield Hero was released this morning, so I can talk about that without revealing any spoilers. I almost accidentally gave away a huge Abyss spoiler last month when I was in a convention in Germany; someone had to basically had to cut me off before I talked too much! (laughs) For Shield Hero, there were some interesting moments with the instrumentation, because they wanted symphonic rock, but they also wanted some Spanish Flamenco guitars at times, so trying to make that work was an interesting sort of experience, which you can totally hear on the PV. It’s very different from the previous stuff that I’ve worked on, but it’s been an interesting challenge!
Some of us may not be familiar with The Rising of the Shield Hero, could you talk about a bit more about the story before we watch the world premiere?KP: With Shield Hero trying to explore some of the more raw emotions that the main character feels at times, exploring what it’s like to be betrayed and incorporating that into the music has been pretty interesting. Obviously, it’s an isekai, and looking into the history of isekai and how stories have unfolded within those projects, but also figuring out how this one could be different and how we could push new and provocative sort of emotions and circumstances.
JT: Unlike most of the isekai projects that have girls and are a harem, this one is different and a lot darker; the main character has to go through a lot of hardships. I would like everyone would like go through these hardships and rise along with Naofumi, and it’ll be more of a cathartic experience for everyone once you get through the hard parts.
Kevin, your recent work in Made in Abyss became a huge hit! What kind of soundtrack should we anticipate from The Rising of the Shield Hero?KP: Don’t expect the same! (everyone laughs) I’ve always been interested in creating a consistency of experience, but never a consistency of sound. While there are some personality traits as a composer that you may have, trying to get to the same emotion in a very different way, I think is really important. The reason for that is if you do the same idea twice, it becomes flat; whatever magic you may feel from something the next time you hear the same thing, it’s probably not going to give you the exact same experience. Shield Hero is a pretty big departure from the Made in Abyss music at times, but hopefully it still does its job well, and actually still gut punches you when it needs to!
Tamura-san, you previously mentioned that you’re actually the one that made this project happen! What were some of your roles and responsibilities in making The Rising of the Shield Hero happen?JT: I pretty much everything and anything that needs to be done for the project: I gathered the staff, managed the budget, apologize if I need to! (everyone laughs) Unlike Hollywood producers, who are pretty executive, I’m in the bottom rank. I’m the first to go and act in order to get stuff done.
You mentioned you had to do a lot of talking with a lot of different staff. How’s your working relationship with the animation studio Kinema Citrus, which brought us a lot of works in the past?JT: With the big success of Made in Abyss, I’ve been working with the head of Kinema Citrus, Muneki Ogasawara, for 10 years, and we’ve been talking about trying to do a big project together, and it finally came to fruition!
Kevin, you’ve obviously worked with Kinema Citrus for Made in Abyss. How is that gonna work with this relationship moving on to another project?KP: Kinema Citrus are really cool people, because first off, they gave me a job, which is great, so I can pay rent and eat! (everyone laughs) They definitely took a chance with hiring me, because I come from making video game music, but anime is slightly a different beast in the sense that you’re trying to map out an entire series in your head and without a lot of precedence to really start that process. In Made in Abyss, they didn’t know what they wanted in terms of sound, and so it was up to me to find something that I felt was consistent with the series in terms of aesthetics and values. Shield Hero was the same, where they might have an idea, like symphonic rock with some Spanish guitar, but how do you make that work? How do you make that a consistent sound throughout the entire series? They’re a very trusting company, and obviously, you have to deliver and do the best work possible, but they are very kind people to work with.
As you mentioned, sometimes you’re not really sure what to make out of it, so do you often get the source material, or do you get to see some of the behind the scenes stuff before you compose the soundtracks?KP: Reading the manga is very important at times, but I think I would have to have conversations with someone like Tamura-san and try to get to the bottom of what is the core essence about the material is a good starting point. Those core values end up shaping some of the early pieces of music to try and get to that baseline to work from, no pun intended! (everyone laughs) It’s sort of like a skill tree in a way, that once you have the foundation, you can spread out and put variations into the tracks. So yeah, conversations are really important; discussions with the director involved, so you can have some really detailed discussions. Background art is very important as well; if you look at the color aesthetics of The Rising of the Shield Hero, it’s pretty varied at times, which you can focus on that and develop ideas from the color palette. There are quite a few ways you can derive what direction you should go in, but communication is key.
Tamura-san, The Rising of the Shield Hero anime is an adaptation of the light novel series. For the readers, what should they anticipate when they watch this anime series?JT: I can’t quite spoil where it’s going to end, but there’s quite a bit of source material to go through; this part will only go through a portion of it, as there’s a lot of drama and character development. Hopefully there’ll be a season 2!KP: Let’s get through the first season! Let’s not jump the gun there! (everyone laughs)
Any notable anime that influenced or inspired you? What inspired you to work in the anime industry?JT: I have been inspired by Space Cobra! Space Cobra is my favorite, even though the content may not be the same sort of series as Shield Hero.KP: As you were answering that, I had a little revelation in my head… When I was a kid, I watched Pokémon, Digimon, Dragonball Z, and I didn’t really know what anime was at the time, because it was just on the TV at the time. But… the first anime I watched, knowing that it was an anime actually was School Days! (everyone gasps, exclaims and laughs) And I was like “Okay, this is kind of interesting!” And obviously at the end, something happens, and I won’t spoil it, but something crazy and messed up happens. I realized that the sort of whiplash that I saw there is maybe my kind of my aesthetic, where I really want to put people in a comfortable false sense of security and then whap them over the head! So yeah, that might have had a little influence influence subconsciously! Studio Ghibli is a huge influence as well, which solidified my passion for animation.
What should fans keep in mind as they watch the world premiere screening? JT: Rather than standing up here and keep talking, I’d rather you just watch it! I’d love to see all your reactions, because unlike Japan, you’re all open pretty open about how you feel. (everyone laughs)KP: Really?!JT: Yeah! I actually like you all more than Japanese fans! (everyone cheers) Once it starts streaming on Crunchyroll, hopefully you’ll all come back to watch episode 2 and the rest of the series. Promise?KP: This is about a good 12-15 months of work going into 48 minutes of film. It’s going to be very interesting to see the results of it. Have fun!
With that, the premiere of episode one began. We don’t want to spoil too much for those of you who couldn’t be there with us, but let’s just say that Shield Hero gets things going in a way that really takes isekai stories and turns them on their head! Naofumi is apparently a legendary hero summoned from another world, but his life seems to be pretty miserable in his new role, and ignoring his odd equipment, he’s treated pretty unfairly from the start. The idea of a hero who can’t use any offensive moves, magic, or weapons is certainly pretty unique, and seeing Naofumi struggle to learn how to progress with his shield and its potentially secret abilities was quite interesting. Sadly, Naofumi doesn’t fair overly well when it comes to other people in this first episode, and by the end he’s left to fend for himself, but the premiere kept us guessing on what would happen next, as Naofumi seemed to be about to have a fateful encounter with someone new.
The animation quality for this first episode looked great and really helped build an exciting, vivid world for the story to unfold in! And, as expected, the music was quite nice to help set the tone and mood of what was going on during the story, creating a serious fantasy atmosphere that blended the odd circumstances of the action on screen with the emotional moments of Naofumi’s seeming misfortunes. Following the episode, we were treated to a PV of upcoming scenes and conflicts, and it certainly left us wanting more!
