Hey there!! 💕❤️💕 Welcome back!!! 💕❤️💕💕❤️💕 slkskjnsdkjns she saw this and im really glad u like it!! 💕❤️💕💕❤️💕
U can! 💕❤️💕Me and my friend really like your questions because it’s very thoughtful and fun!! 💕❤️💕
EDIT: My friend said they interpreted this question differently into ‘how complex vs simple’ their lifestyle is and!!!!!!!!!! maybe we’ll edit and add it in anon if u send in another ask I’ll ask my friend if they want to answer?? I’m sorry!!!!! My 2nd house sun immediately: Wealth
Please send us more questions, but maybe not this one bc it’s about their personal lifestyle/how they live (+ not their personalities or what they’ve shown us) and it may be treading on 1. making assumptions about their personal life in which we’re in no authoritative position to commentate on
2. we can obviously talk about how we view them and write commentaries on how we feel/what we think, but there’s also a line where we have to acknowledge people might see us as credible information/authority in our own rights when it’s out in public/shared to an audience
3. what they’ve shown us clear boundaries between public figures and their audience might be wiser
4. acknowledging our position of power + influence to the community rather than ignoring the fact that our words have sway will help us in the long-run by making conscious, thoughtful choices on what we could give/bring to the fan/outside community as well.
I hope this makes sense?? 💕❤️💕 I hope it’s ok if I mulled it over last night and thought I might not – it might not be the best idea to talk about it/put it out there??
Please don’t feel bad at all!! 💕❤️💕I really love your questions and I actually wrote as I tried to figure out how to do this (literally just disclaimers before I realized oh maybe there’s no way to do this properly and I shouldn’t??) – I don’t want you to get out of this ask empty-handed, so if it makes it any better – I’ll publish my working through below the read more and you might see what I was working out as I try to answer your question?? 💕❤️💕
Long commentary on BTS privilege, social inequality + wealth disparities in the real world (disclaimer for this ask?) + Working Outs and Why It Didn’t Work ⬇️
Note: From here on below is me writing my thoughts down as I tried to answer the ask, I hope that – even though I couldn’t answer your question – this is a good answer in other regards either way? Hopefully?
Just a disclaimer note on BTS and this topic as well: In my head I’m immediately going into commentary about social inequality, wealth disparity and how poverty + classism exists in real life.
Just a quick tangent, but real people suffer from this issue. Our society have consequences when it comes to wealth inequality + the ability to afford basic human amenities (healthcare, living/housing, food, education, transportation, disabilities etc.)
Even when they’re relatable, BTS are billionaires who knows their position is privileged. Lets - make that clear for a second.
They still do their best in variety shows where they have to compete/entertain the audience. What I’m trying to say is. I’d rather not ignore/make note that there’s a difference between being privileged, being aware of these issues and still preferring simpler lifestyles for themselves. Than being ignorant and completely insensitive/unaffected from the matter. They’re still privileged, let’s make that clear. And thus, as relatable as they are to the public/audience, they benefit from the social/economical/political power they have given by those around them (their audience, accessibility medias and production).
In the context that is related (i.e. army joking that BTS fights over ramen) – BTS have never once shown that they’re unaware of their wealth + privilege, even it was a joke – the thing that is missing is the context – they’re usually seen competing in BTS run/gayo, but it’s produced to let them showcase their dynamic and chemistry - the prize (commodities/money) was never actually the main focus.
A highly competitive game with members who know each other well - is actually what these shows are about.
BTS doesn’t glorify their own wealth, nor have they acted as if they are poor in order to gain relatability or sympathy from the audience/masses (looking at armis 💜 who does this. delete armi 💜)
It’s a part of why they have fans and why people like them. They’re able to sell products + contribute to relief/charity organizations and advocate campaigns. Whilst they are in position of privilege compared to others - they’ve never not acknowledged that they could afford to do so for reasonable personal requests (i.e. safety on flights and in airports, security in their home, equipments to perform/produce with, reaching out to audiences that usually never has the opportunity to connect with them despite liking them for a long time, etc.)
I think it’s just important to note - for those who are armys and those who are looking at it from the outside - that this is what we see and why we’re talking about this.
I just want us to acknowledge that they’re privileged and their lifestyle choices are personal, I think that’s what I’m doing here.
So, commentary on social inequality of the world we all live in + BTS privilege in all this/disparities. check.
This is going to be disgustingly generalized to an incredible amount because we don’t have houses – to be completely honest, within the context of the question having houses is exactly what we need for these types of answers.
From a technical stand-point, not having houses when we’re talking about specific contexts within a person’s life (basically why we have so many houses - for different contexts) – will make this reading terribly vague and misleading as well.
Actually, should we do this at all.. because simply saying oh Taurus/Libra placements would want materialistic things to show x, y, z is incredibly misgiving and is like a blanket statement. Without houses in question, there’s no specification on what it is used for or what kind, or what type of actions/manifestations these signs are going to have in order to express themselves.
Planets in signs can only do so much to talk about the energy that is being produced – placing them in houses and context, gives them manifestation that doesn’t simply exist in a vacuum by itself.
All placements in a chart make up a cohesive picture of what it is used for, when and where. With only the how/why (placements) — the best I can probably do to answer the question is just explain how it could possibly manifest and why/what reasoning it may have to express itself that way.
While that is something I could? probably talk about. It… just doesn’t answer the question in a way that’s satisfying. This question is really good… and there’s a way to get there and give it the answer it wants. But.. with what we have, it’s a disservice to answer half-right and do a poor job overall, than to actually give the full answer.
Hnnnfghfnhgn there’s also.. some disclaimers on personal life for idols/public figures and how this might.. be almost assuming or intruding on that territory? From a glance it isn’t like it’s not something they’ve not shown us publicly or told us about. But they also didn’t advertise it, and what they do with their personal life/lifestyle– is that something we (as fan) are in anyway, shape or form, capable or have any voice to talk about as if we know what they’re doing? Does that? make sense?
Like, intruding as in - do we have any authority to tell them to get a pillow or stop drinking wine or something like that. Speculate, on what restaurant they go to/how $$$ it is, or does things that are privileged, things that aren’t going to han river to bike, etc. Can we really pick and choose certain choices they choose to do with their lifestyle, while being completely separated from reality of their other?
Idk.. this is getting complicated.. but maybe sticking to things they are proud of and does talk about openly/happily in their public and professional persona might be better… considering that they should have? a modicum of personal life back to themselves? we could at least do that and choose to respect them right… thats? hm. what’s right.
Fine wine and dine, lavish restaurants and other personal choices on their expenses and love for/lifestyle… maybe.. its for the best if we leave it to their own authority and discretion, over their own private/personal life and what they choose to share with people they know/care for/love.
I think the end all of it might just be: can I imagine them coming to say to us “army, you know how I am right? I’m like this in my personal lifestyle/choice” – and of what they could say, I don’t think that’s something they may be willing to share without their explicit consent, nor can I imagine it right now if it’s about messy habits or a flaw they may have. So hm.
The question addresses simpler lifestyle too – we don’t have authority to commentate on JK’s pillow choices, but being exposed like that suddenly might not be something he’s entirely comfortable with or would advertise to others as well? Not to mention, they all seem to not advertise anything that is outrageously privileged that would smack anyone in the face – they’re pretty sensitive to keeping things personal, private, under-wraps. Even when they choose to eat at a well-known restaurant, it’s not in bad-taste or done frivolously. In a way, they all tend to keep a simpler lifestyle about them to not let their wealth + privilege get in the way of their work + connecting to us, focusing solely on what their skills are + performance and music.
Simply going by that.. is it wise to talk about something we might just choose to show decency/a modicum of respect for the idol’s privacy maybe.. uhhdfjgnn i!!!!!!!!! there’s thoughts and feelings and im just trying to let it out so it makes sense and then i can navigate between it and see what i can do/the right way to talk about it (if it exists)!!
God.. I guess there’s.. no way I can possibly do this?? Considering if I think about it from all sides – I can’t approach it technically, without houses. I literally can’t answer this question, it isn’t about choice because answering this question is directly asking about the houses. So I literally can’t answer correctly. I also can’t – or well, I don’t think the moral issue is ok here when I think further on it. Consequences are inevitable with all posts/production, but optimizing it so that it affects people positively and minimize damage to others is always something to check through. This may not be a good idea, just to do. So maybe not.
Hhndndhnndf ok,,, gotta,,, write something for the introduction so it makes sense.
Note: I did go through this, edit and write some additional paragraphs to make it make sense. But I hope this? gives you insight or some thoughts to my working process and what I consider/go through when I make these posts as well? Thank u for ur time, I hope it isn’t too disappointing ;; let me know what u think/how u feel anon I’m sorry I couldn’t do this question but please let me know if you’re ok or not!!!! 💕❤️💕💕❤️💕

This isn’t an abortion or gun problem, this isn’t a left and right problem, this isn’t a difference of opinions problem. This is a government problem.
Our government in the USA is such an outdated and amended mess it needs thrown out completely and started over. Our government doesn’t care about the people. It care about the rich and corporations and to religious extremists.
With this post I’m asking all you for your help in creating a;
Declaration of Revolution and Reform
I hope to push you all into thinking about how the United States government no longer represents the interests of the majority of people and that the governmental systems we have in place now are outdated and no longer fit into our modern society and advancements. Not to mention that the constitution is no longer a gold standard for leading this country and is instead stagnating our advancements and isn’t recognizable to our modern society and values.
The constitution and its amendments are outdated relics and should no longer be used for our future. I believe we need a complete rewritten and redefined governmental documents that fit in with our modern standards and values. The constitution didn’t say anything about black or womens rights or child labor nor healthcare or any form of rights to privacy. I believe due to this it should no longer represent our country and that by keeping these outdated values and opinions for our government we are holding the American people back from moving forward.
Our government is using and abusing its power and its structures to harm the people instead of help them. This in turn no longer represents the values of the American people who believe in our democracy and ability to vote for our rights and all else. The government is allowing the Supreme Court to make decisions that directly affect the American people without the voices of the American people being given the chance to vote on it. Outdated laws that weren’t in effect until the supreme court’s decision triggering on the action of roe v wade is against the American values of democracy and allows for old laws that have long since been socially not accepted or outright unwanted be put into place effective immigration without allowing the voices of the people to choose. This does not represent our country as we see it and our government is allowing these governmental powers to make the decisions without the consent of the people. The constitution no longer represents this country’s values and ideals and it’s only place is as a historic relic and not as a form of governmental practice anymore.
No of this fits with the foundation of the United States and not to mention there are several other issues to be addressed. Electoral college is another highly outdated part of the government as well as how the house and senate work. These governmental systems do not accurately portray or represent the people as they once did as there are many flaws and the systems could use rehauling and review by the American people.
As a reminder as to why a declaration of revolution and reform would be a great opportunity for the entirety of the people of this country is a list of issues which I’m sure many of you could add to;
Housing crisis where corporations or the rich can own multiple homes and apartments and basically squeeze money from people instead of allowing the everyday people the ability to own a place to live, climate crisis and the future of natural disasters and resources which is in desperate need of immediate attention so that current and future generations can thrive, wage gaps and the fact the wealth gap being great than that of the French Revolution, and I could possibly go for days on issues than need urgent attention but because of lobbying and voting windows and all around government departments slowing the processes down or throwing them out for lining their own pockets or their own extremist agendas that do not represent the majority of the American people and just think of all the corruptions within our government and issues at hand.We are in desperate need of Revolution and Reform to make this country once again stand for the ideals of the majority of the American population and its health and safety of its citizens.
So I challenge you all to collaborate and spread this sentiment to other platforms and to anyone who will listen that we desperately need a change in this country that directly reflects our values and society as it is today not as it was years ago. Remember this isn’t about right or left or abortion and guns or anything like that this is about the integrity of this country and the wills and freedoms of the American people and our own future.
This isn’t just about you this for everyone.

THE NUMEROLOGY OF YOUR HOUSE ADDRESS.
Every home has a story, a history that makes it the way it is today. In many cases, you can see that history, and that personality, in the small cracks in the walls, and the faded markings on doorways.
More than its history, according to Numerology, every house also has an innate personality that you can unlock by understanding your home’s number.
WHAT IS NUMEROLOGY
At its most basic level, Numerology is the study of the numbers that make up the Universe.
Numerology has a long history, dating back at least 3,000 years to Ancient Mesopotamia, and is practiced by different cultures across the world including the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Chinese, Indians, and Japanese.
Modern Western Numerology is largely based on Greek Numerology, otherwise known as Pythagorean Numerology, as the mathematician, philosopher and teacher was one of its most famous followers.
Pythagoras and his followers believed that the Universe was constructed according to a divine geometric plan, which is why the same geometric patterns recur repeatedly throughout nature.
Following on from this, they believed that numbers are the building blocks of the Universe and that, like human DNA, they carry information about the Universe that can be read and deciphered.
Numerologists believe that everything in the Universe has a number, or a series of numbers, that define its innate character. For example, a Life Path Number, which is determined by a person’s date of birth, reveals in general how their life will play out, the opportunities they will have, and the lessons they will learn.
LOCATION NUMEROLOGY
Like people, places also have numbers, which reflect the energy of the location. It is possible for people to be compatible or incompatible with a location, feeling comfortable, or decidedly uncomfortable, in that space. This can explain why some people fall in love with a place the moment that they arrive, while others just don’t feel right in a certain location, despite there being no obvious reason for their discomfort.
DETERMINING THE NUMBER OF YOUR HOUSE
To determine the number of your home, you first need to select which part of your address has the most resonance for your home.
For example, perhaps you live at 1704 8th Avenue. In this case, it is your house number that is the most important number for your home, so you will use your house number to determine the number of your home.
To do this, you need to reduce your house number to a single digit number from 1-9, or one of the three Master Numbers (11, 22, 33), which are special numbers within numerology.
0 is also a significant number within numerology, but as it means infinite possibility, and all things that can possibly be existing, you will never encounter a person or a place that is characterized by the number 0.
To reduce your house number to a single digit or Master Number, you simply need to add the digits together.
For example, 1+7+0+4=12, and then this is to be reduced further 1+2=3, revealing that the number of this home is 3.
If you live in an apartment, for example, apartment 31C at 1704 8th Avenue, then your apartment number supersedes your street address.
In this case, you determine the number in the same way, but don’t ignore the C. In numerology all letters have a corresponding number, so you need to determine the number of the letter C (see the list below) and add this to your equation.
So, in the case of apartment 31C you would add 3+1+3=9, making your home a number 9.
1 – A, J, S
2 – B, K, T
3 – C, L, U
4 – D, M, V
5 – E, N, W
6 – F, O, X
7 – G, P, Y
8 – H, Q, Z
9 – I, R
Perhaps you live at a named address, for example, Rose Cottage, in this case, the name of the address is more significant than any other part of the address. To calculate the number of this address, assign each letter a number, and add these together until you get a single digit or Master Number.
So, for Rose Cottage we would determine the number for Rose 9+6+1+5=21, which reduces to 2+1=3. We would then determine the number for Cottage 3+6+2+2+1+7+5=21, which reduces to 2+1=3.
Here, in theory, you would add 3+3 to give you a number of 6 for your home, but as 33 is a Master Number, you would keep 33.
WHAT DO THE DIFFERENT HOME NUMBERS MEAN?
HOME NUMBER 1
This represents independence, innovation, and ambition, and is a great place to live if you are self-employed or an entrepreneur. It is also a space that can help people living together retain their autonomy and freedom. The space can sometimes breed a lack of cooperation as everyone pursues their own agendas.
HOME NUMBER 2
This represents a loving and friendly atmosphere where guests will always feel welcome. It is an excellent number for a family home, promoting harmony and close relationships. The space can easily become highly emotionally charged, so it’s important to cleanse it regularly to maintain harmony.
HOME NUMBER 3
This represents a location with a cheerful and upbeat energy, and perhaps a place that sees a lot of social gatherings. It also resonates with a lot of creative energy so is a great space for artistic endeavors. The space can tend to a feeling of being disorganized and unfocused, but clearing the clutter can help to curb this.
HOME NUMBER 4
This represents a solid and secure environment which a lot of discipline and structure. It can lack excitement and feel stifling for some people, however it is also a great energy for setting realistic goals and bringing in wealth. Creating a work-life balance is important for people who live in this space.
HOME NUMBER 5
This represents a gregarious space which always throws up unexpected surprises and adventures. It favors progressive ideas and is a great place to live if you love your freedom. It can be difficult to create a quiet space in this type of home, but creating a tranquil garden or bringing plants indoors can help to balance this energy.
HOME NUMBER 6
This inspires beauty, love, and harmony and vibrates with a balanced energy. It is a space that nurtures and is great for couples. There is a wonderful healing quality to this number, making it a great fit for those who work in a caregiving setting. The space can make some people feel overwhelmed by responsibility and can also turn them into homebodies. To help balance this energy, it is important to make time for social or creative activities outside the home.
HOME NUMBER 7
This represents secrets and the desire for privacy. Those seeking a quiet space to reflect and grow, thrive in this kind of environment. This space can leave some people feeling isolated and alone, however it is also great for those seeking spiritual development. This space is also a good fit for writers, artists, and those who need alone time in order to get their ideas out into the world.
HOME NUMBER 8
This represents prosperity and abundance, and so is a lucky space for many endeavors. It can be a place that gives people physical energy and can also help boost ambition and the motivation of those living there. The abundance of this space can leave some people with the feeling of always wanting more, and never reaching satisfaction.
HOME NUMBER 9
This represents universal love and compassion and is a space where all people typically feel welcomed and accepted. If you live in a 9 home you will probably find that guests often drop in unexpectedly. This makes it a good space for older couples and for young families. The sharing energy of the space can be a struggle for people who need to take time to work on themselves, but this can be balanced by creating a sacred space in an area of the home.
HOME NUMBER 11
The Master Number 11 represents intuition and illumination, and 11 homes are inspiring and creative places. Living in this space can help to promote innovative ideas and new creations. 11 is a number of light, that lends itself to airy spaces that make the most of natural light. Because 11 has such as strong vibration, this kind of space can often bring spiritual tests.
HOME NUMBER 22
The Master Number 22 represents the master builder and the creative energy of the Universe. This is an excellent space to feel grounded, and in control of shaping your world. People who spend a lot of time in this kind of space may feel excessive pressure to create and succeed.
HOME NUMBER 33
The Master Number 33 combines the characteristics of 11 and 22 and represents the altruistic side of life. Locations with the number 33 are often spiritual places, or places where people work to support others, rather than for personal gain. People who live in a 33 space can sometimes feel overwhelmed by responsibility for others.

Vote “NO” to #GetSickDieQuick
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Better Care Reconciliation debuts after closed door meetings. Following the Congressional Budget Office mark up and his colleagues’ 1st review of the bill support fades to less than 20%.
Defend The ACA
Vote “NO” to #GetSickDieQuick
What you should know if you live in Columbus, MS. (Particularly if you are female, ages 19-40, a person of color, or you earn less than 40K annually)
· Columbus, MS population breakdown ethnic breakdown is 14,187 African American/8,842 White and the gender breakdown is 10,860 Male and 12,780 Female.
· On average women earn $16,000 less annually than men.
· Most residents earn less than $40K annually, less than both the state and national average. Residents living at or below the Federal Poverty Line are 31.2% a number that is more than double the national average.
· Of those living under the FPL women are the majority on gender lines. Racial demographics put Latino/Hispanics in the smallest spot with 351, Whites at 1262 and African Americans at 6605. Of this number women make up 5,767, particularly young mothers ages 19-24.
· Wealthiest Families (earning $200k or more) are only 2% of the total population, and are white, married and over the age 45.
Why are these statistics important?
The current White House administration, the 115th congress and the majority of our state elected officials, including Governor Phil Bryant, are republicans who support the President and the GOP ad infinitum. Republicans in congress and the white house have been pushing through an oppressive legislative agenda while the national conversation has centered around covfefe has been an epic example of how we have become hopelessly ADD as a country, dangerously so.
Women have lost protections on several fronts in many red states, including North Carolina ruling if a woman refuses sex, having agreed initially, regardless of whether she is being violently attacked and harmed, the act does not constitute rape and she cannot press charges. In Missouri, a law recently passed making it legal for employers and landlords to restrict access to employment and housing based on a woman’s reproductive choices. (Including use of birth control, pregnancy, or having ever had an abortion) Clean water is no longer considered basic human rights and police are empowered to shoot on sight while their victims are left to suffer and die and have yet to see true justice.
As terrifying as the loss of liberties, especially the right to privacy, are the Senate Majority’s newest health care legislation may be the worst yet. Senator McConnell debuted his Better Care Reconciliation Act (aka Trumpcare aka #GetSickDieQuick) after closed door sessions with Republican leadership and the GOP attempted to ram it through for senate approval well before anyone really knew what the legislation contained. Typically, republican, the win was more important than service of the public good.
Fortunately, following the Congressional Budget Office mark-up, a public outcry rose with enough force to have even GOP senators beginning to pull their support from the bill. The Republicans claimed the bill included a tax break for the American voters, preservation of Medicaid and a more competitive market for consumers.
Sure, it does, if by American voters you mean families earning a quarter of a million dollars a year or more, and define preservation as defunding it billions of dollars while limiting those who qualify for coverage and finally considered a competitive market to be one where individual premiums are so high consumers are put in a position to choose between health care or rent. True to form the GOP plays fast and loose with the truth, defining the BCRA according to White Privilege and the values and preferences of the smallest segment of the population.
During President Obama’s two terms in office, the President and the first lady worked hard and well to provide programs and legislation that might improve the quality of life for the greatest number of Americans possible and with respect and dignity for all walks of life. From healthy, edible school lunch options to an improved economy, lower unemployment and finally the Affordable Care Act.
Even if you are currently covered by Medicaid or an ACA silver plan there are some details and provisions in the ACA you may not be aware of, I won’t detail them all obviously but the ones I think are the most important for a side by side comparison.
· ACA created agencies to create a national standard of care, so if a resident from Massachusetts has a heart attack while visiting his daughter at the W he can reasonably expect the same standard of care from the medical team at Baptist he might experience in Boston.
· Insurance plans, forms and policies are streamlined into a greater format uniformity. Simplifying the process of selecting individual coverage consumers understand what their coverage includes and can ensure their needs are met.
· In a demand similar to the expectation of user friendly format for policy selection, the ACA makes transparency by insurers a legal requirement. Additionally, insurers dollar distribution is also federally mandated under ACA mandating 80/85% be allocated to healthcare costs. The remaining 15/20% is the maximum percent allowed to be diverted into profits and administrative costs/salaries, thus removing the opportunity to deny customer claims to increase profit while introducing a penalty when graft or embezzling occurs.
· ACA protects patients from losing their coverage during an illness, price gouging or coverage denial based on a pre-existing illness, coverage spending caps are prohibited and hospitals whose patients return for a second stay as a result of healthcare providers failing to diagnosis or effectively treat an illness will be penalized financially.
· ACA provides comprehensive preventative medicine and wellness care and counseling to women and children, a subject class whose healthcare has been either ghettoized or predicated on assimilation to the standards/values of the Republican majority when it was provided at all.
· Providing vaccinations and immunizations without any additional charge (co-pay, deductible) is mandatory under ACA. As is HPV, HIV or other STD screening, testing and counseling. Mammograms, colonoscopies, breast feeding (education, equipment and counseling), family planning services and contraception: all are considered preventative medicine and must be provided without assessing an additional cost.
· States choosing to expand Medicaid and by doing so the number of citizens covered by healthcare could be subsidized 100% until 2016 and from then would receive 90% of the amount of total funds required to fund that states Medicaid. (Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant declined to increase state coverage and turned down millions of federal dollars.)
· Prior to the ACA’s implementation many individuals were opposed to the ACA “compulsion” to participate in the health.gov marketplace; however, when it all finally got off the ground ease of access and ability to use were major selling points.
· Working incomes families were incentivized to participate in the market place initially with the threat of penalty and later with a tax credit for eligible participants. For example, a 27-yr. old with an annual income of 20K would see an increase in her yearly federal tax refund of approximately 750$
· ACA generates revenue to offset its costs with an increase of payroll tax on families earning $200K and up of .9%, an increase of 3.8% to net investment income tax on the same tax bracket, and leveeing an excise tax on Health Insurance companies, Large pharmaceutical and medical supply companies and tanning salons (excluding any who could prove a medical necessity or treatment).
Clearly this is only a thumbnail sketch, the ACA in its entirety is over 2,000 pages, though it does give some of the most crucial broad strokes from my point of view. Especially in comparison to the Senate’s proposal. As mentioned previously, congressional Republicans made two arguments in support of this bill. The first, an interpretation so loose many reporters consider it unabashed lying. When confronted during interviews and forced to defend a bill obviously written to benefit a wealthy and privileged class over the needs and protections of those living under the poverty line (a group disparately made up of women and children) their second argument is disgusting and dismissive.
Vice President Pence has argued if individuals (particularly women) would exercise some personal responsibility and display genuine faith God will provide. White house counsel Kellyanne Conway’s answer was to “go out and get jobs.” If they are able bodied and they want to work, then they’ll have employer-sponsored benefits like you and I do-cnbc.com One republican suggested that if those affected employed some self-control and spent “their” money on health care instead of a new cell phone they could afford the premiums without a government subsidy.
If you are not insulted you really should be regardless of whether you are covered by Medicaid or not. The GOP’s current incarnation has made the privilege of straight, white America an acceptable standard for interpreting the entirety of the nation. Their ideology argues against providing for citizens who not only benefit from, but need government assistance to survive at all, much less with an acceptable quality of life. The 23 million Americans who would completely lose their coverage under McConnell’s BCRA are written off as lazy, stupid and faithless. Twenty-Three. Million. Tax paying citizens from all walks of life. Relegated to second class status because: households earning a quarter million or more shouldn’t be burdened with additional taxes just because they have more wealth according to the Republicans. To say nothing of the poor overburdened and victimized Pharmaceutical companies and insurance providers.
Because while the GOP is doing their best tap dance in an attempt to convince the public they aren’t stripping and raping Medicaid to create billions of dollars in tax relief for the uber rich, that is precisely what they intend. In order to cover the cost of the billions they intend to lavish upon themselves (the majority of congress can claim additional non-earned income from dividends and capital gains that are currently subject to the additional tax of 3.8%) and the 1% they also intend to decrease the cost share subsidies for Medicaid users. The result would sky rocket premiums beyond what most could afford. In practical terms, it could be translated this way: The 27-year-old with an annual income of $22,000 would not receive an additional refund of $750 dollars, but would instead be forced to pay up to $5,160 in out of pocket costs to maintain coverage. With the prohibition of the spending cap and the other provisions afforded by the ACA an huge section of the populace will find themselves without healthcare and likely with a crushing amount of debt with no option for relief, the ones who do not succumb to an early death.
Call me crazy but where do these leaders, our elected officials whose sole purpose is to serve and represent the will of the governed, where do they live that a cell phone costs 5k? The absurdity of their “bootstrap” argument is beyond the pale and dismisses the cost of medical care in the twenty-first century particularly in relation to our country’s growing economic disparity. The minimum wage is worth less in the current economy than it was during FDR or LBJ’s presidencies and the conditions and illnesses often covered by Medicaid did not even have treatments at that point in history. Better we should write those people off? Let them die because of a genetic condition or mental disability incurred while fighting overseas? It’s what will happen if the GOP passes their #GetSickDieQuick healthcare plan.
This travesty is NOT a foregone conclusion. The public outcry as soon as the details and deficiencies of the #GetSickDieQuick plan were made known forced the senate to delay the vote and the bill has lost all but a small margin of support. The poignant, eloquent and enraged testimonials from parents of special needs children, the disabled and veterans from predominately red states and the loss in votes and voter confidence those testimonials represented had senators dropping from the bill like flies. As a citizen of this country with a voice and a vote you DO have power, but you must wield it.
Victory is not certain at this point. If Senate Republicans delay the vote long enough for the President to become embroiled in a new batch of nonsense and the public’s attention wanes or is redirected do not doubt our corrupt representation in the senate will pass this legislation while our heads are facing a different way.
Taking action in the twenty-first century is a quick and simple matter. Most of us carry the means to speak out against tyranny in our pocket or purse (assuming it isn’t already in our hand). You have the right to life and liberty-this provides for a reasonable quality of life and the freedom to express your demands and expectations to your government and if your government refuses to hear you, well then, we vote the bastards out.
Too many Americans have succumbed to the myth that they have no power to effect change, struggling to carve out a life in the face of growing bigotry and hate, fearing the very agencies and officers whose purpose is meant to protect them and their freedoms, anesthetized by the constant onslaught of news and social media, we have either accepted the lies fed to us by those with the most power or become apathetic towards our government whose structure was meant to curtail the disparity of experience between social classes and prevent corruption from running amok.
We are not doomed, not yet. President and Mrs. Obama proved just how close that promise of a brighter future still is and we can get it back. But the America we want, the one we thought we already had requires commitment from the electorate and involvement in the political process if we expect fair and honest representation. The section of the population with the most wealth and power will always seek more of what they have and they certainly won’t give any of what they have away without a powerful incentive to do so.
Speak out and often and follow through at the voting booth. You cannot do so too often or on too many issues. People of color and those living with less than BOTH the state and national average are the majority of the population in the state of Mississippi. It is absolutely absurd that our representation in congress and the Governor’s mansion so poorly reflects our state’s demographic and it is correctable. Particularly in Columbus, where democrats make up 48% of the publics. Based on the current population statistics from the census bureau changing the minds of or adding an additional two hundred votes to the left and the democrats would win in a landslide. In the meantime, you can (and should) contact your representatives. Makecalls.democrats.org provides a suggested script template if you are struggling with what you would like to say or how you could most effectively say it.

When we rebuild it
In 1972, I was eight years old and the elections were coming. I asked my father what the differences between Republicans and Democrats were. He said that Democrats’ first question was “What is the individual’s duty to society?” And that the Republicans’ was “How do we protect the individual from society?”
There was a lot more -- he explained the extremes, from progressive to liberal to socialist to communist, and from conservative to reactionary to John Birch Society to fascist. He also confirmed that he was a Republican. A Jewish Republican from Chicago, technically the null set, but that’s a story for a different day.
For today, I wanted to start with the terms he laid out above. Both of those driving questions are good ones. And there are times where I would come down on one side of an issue or the other, depending on my own worldview. Should the government tell me how to love? Probably not. Should it tell me that, say, a year of national service is a way for me to pay back for infrastructure? Probably so. These are my answers, not necessarily yours. Yours could well be the the opposite.
My point is that the basic nature of the opposing sides made sense, not just to me (more of a progressive sort) and to my father. He’s been frustrated by presidential elections since about 2004, as his party has drifted away from him.
I get it. Beginning in 1980, my party drifted away from me -- and I wasn’t even able to vote yet! In my mind, Ronald Reagan successfully demonized the word “liberal,” and ever since then my Democratic party has been afraid of its own policies. They have been formed not in light, but in the shadow of the other party. “Hey, at least we’re not those guys” isn’t really much of a platform.
I’ve been thinking about this since the election, and as I’m typing this, it looks like all hell is about to break loose with the Russia investigations. Maybe it won’t. Maybe they’re planning a war with Iran or North Korea to try to distract us. Maybe something else. But let’s say for now that things go A to B to C, the way they always do when Bunker Time starts, and there’s about to be some serious, fast, shocking, destabilizing changes. I’d like us to prepare for them.
I have a message for everyone who is heart sick, everyone who has woken up every morning will a sense of ill-ease, as if we have just remembered there is a candle burning next to a stack of newspapers. Everyone who looks at the weather and wonders if the weather will ever be normal again. Everyone who is being priced out of housing and who is feeling like there is a rug about to be ripped out from under them, be it healthcare, pensions, job security, education. Everyone who feels that the parties in charge are no longer accountable to citizens. My message is that we’re all in this together. And that has to be the message that the party getting us back into the light will trumpet every place it can.
I have a recurrent fantasy about facing the few folks I know who are Trump voters. It has nothing to do with getting anyone to change their minds. It goes like this: I’m on a stage in a debate, and I am allowed to ask the first question. My question would be “Can you articulate my position?”
(In my fantasy, that always throws them.)
See, I ask that because each side (and we are down to sides now, tribal and unthinking, rather than people who bond together differently on different issues) sees the other as kinda dumb. And they’re right. My side is kind of dumb about stuff. Obama and drones, Obama and surveillance, Obama and the death of privacy, Obama and the bankers -- all of those things are horrible and I ignored them because, hey, Obama was an adult who backed up my point of view. I absolutely, positively realize I made some mistakes there.
Likewise I made a mistake in dismissing Reagan. Yes, he lied repeatedly, covering up crimes with folksy witticisms that drove me insane. But they weren’t just distractions. They gave people energy to go out and be Americans and work hard and have something to believe in. It drives me crazy that his bellicose Russian strategy paid off in some ways. Yes, I realize it’s more complicated than that, but I do see merit in the position: whatever else his flaws were, there’s a good argument that Reagan helped defeat our ideological opponent, and that’s got to at least be taken in and considered.
I would be curious if Trump supporters could say of me why I voted the way I did, at all times assuming that I’m not a complete idiot, but instead human and bound by my experience and perceptions. I would like to do the same for them. But there’s a lot of noise. I’m not sure why they voted for him beyond what the media reports, and the answers are so jumbled: economics, racism, wanting an authoritarian dad, not understanding cause and effect, a weak Democratic candidate, misogyny, delight in the LOLZ of it all -- I’m not sure i know anyone who votes like that.
I have a feeling, not supported by any evidence, that there’s an un-examined reason for all the rising authoritarianism in the world. The questions my father said the parties asked back in 1972 only have equal interest for voters in a world where the future looks limitless. If there is an infinite amount of resources, then figuring out our responsibilities to each other follows.
But I think that’s no longer the case. I’ve said it before, but the world no longer sees the future as a renewable resource. We see limits where we didn’t before. It’s climate change. The earth is starting to treat us like an opportunistic infection and it’s starting to burn us off of it. That’s terrifying. We all know it’s coming, even the people who deny it. They deny it because it’s terrifying and because taking responsibility for our actions is not something Americans of any party have ever been good at.
They also deny it because the corporations that now control most discourse are looking for short term gains. Decreasing resources mean that the people who own them are getting richer. They will always put the thumb on the scale to make sure their agenda gets heard. Their agenda is “anything that regulates us, or promises to allow more people access to wealth is bad.” But they don’t phrase it like that. They instead make promises that are insupportable (”More jobs!”), but only if you know how to analyze them.
I am by the way a fan of capitalism. But I’m a fan of them they way I am of teenagers. See: the stock market has the emotional maturity of a teenage girl. OMG OMG OMG OMG, like that. And corporations have the ethics of 14 year old boys. I like 14 year old boys but I don’t think they should be allowed to drive, as badly as they want to. So: yes to your energetic natures, corporation and teenagers, but like a good parent -- and citizens of democracy are the parents of capitalism -- I need to reign that energy in to make sure it doesn’t drive the car into a ditch.
When we rise again, it is going to be chaotic. There will be competing voices. Some will be Democratic party fossils who think that trying to capture 50.1% of the vote is good enough. No. It’s got to be a new set of questions. It’s something like “What is the individual’s duty to society?” again, but taking in the current state of affairs. People who are smart at platforms should understand that it’s crucial to be positive and specific.
Start like this: it’s tough out there, so the way we’ll handle this is by banding together and figuring out 10 million new jobs building the boats that go into the ocean and clean up the plastic, which will we figure out, using science, how to use to build housing; we’ll rehabilitate the planet and we’ll do it using the world’s greatest workforce. Let’s do it as a joint force between business and government and figure out how the maximum number of people can benefit.
There’s more, but that’s the place I’d start.
This isn’t going to convince a lot of Trump voters. I don’t worry about it too much. One thing I’ve read repeatedly is that they think progressives look down on them, and guess what? That’s right. I’ve seen a lot of FB threads where people assume the only way someone voted for Trump was to momentarily dislodge themselves from their Lazyboys, then bring Pop-tart-sticky fingers to the ballot box, where they voted against their own interests and then farted and giggled about it.
That’s not helpful.
I have a different narrative about that.
My day job is that I write historical fiction, much of it about con men, much of it about the pursuit of power. Trump is an amazing character, purely American, exactly our Golem, our Anti-Golem, a creature into whom every poor American aspect, everything we’ve tried to sweep under the rug, every little awful thing we have done as Americans and yet still tried to argue that America is the greatest country on earth, all of that was poured into a mold and made into a President. Let’s ignore class and race and hereditary wealth and how the law buys different justice for the rich and Gerrymandering and the rights of people of color, and the problems of reality TV blending into reality, and the death of our educational system, and let’s no longer teach kids how to think, because thinking is hard, but revelation is extremely fulfilling, and when we do all of that, we have marked a chalk outline, and then dropped Trump right into it. It’s kind of amazing and it’s the kind of thing that makes me think he really is our own special kind of doom.
But he’s not. He’s a con man and a serial domestic abuser and a sexual assailant and a bully. What all of these characters have in common is that they are weak. Trump is a small, weak coward who will fold when a rolled up newspaper gets near his nose. That’s not so much the point as this: the victims of con men, abusers and bullies internalize shame to an extent that evades logic and reason. When you realize you’ve been betrayed it’s awfully hard to admit it, and you want to defend your bully even more. So: I’m not on board with shaming anyone for having voted for him, nor still defending him. That’s going to last for a while, and I’d just let that happen and have some sympathy for it.
Instead, this: we’ll just be over here, listening. We are all in this together. And to be honest, there’s something that everyone who is liberal, conservative, or at some different part of the politcal spectrum can agree upon is that we’re all kind of a bunch of jerks. Yep, we’re really assholes a lot of the them. And that makes sticking it out hard. But what choices do we have? I would rather team up with other people in my neighborhood and work on something to turn back that feeling of dread that’s been in my soul than use the fear of the future to barricade my precious, dwindling resources away from them.
Step one: have a pathway for all of those people who are about to realize they’re fucked. Step two: see if you can articulate their points of view. My campaign slogan: “Sure we’re jerks, but we’re all jerks together.”
This post will update as coffee and time allow.
