I’d LOVE to hear your favorite recipe 🎤🎤
yes!!! okay, so i do have a bunch that take a lot of energy, but to me, a favorite has to be quick, cheap, and not include too many steps so i can make it on pretty much any weekday night. my current go to: Peanut Butter Udon
you need: - 1 pack of instant udon noodles - about 1 tablespoon of neutral vegetable oil - 1-2 spring onions - 1 clove of garlic - sesame seeds (optional but recommended) - about 1 teaspoon of fresh, grated or finely diced ginger (optional) - 1-2 tablespoons peanut butter - about 1 cup of (instant) vegetable broth - 1 teaspoon of soy sauce - sesame oil (optional) - black pepper (i also add a bit of msg but that's just my taste) - very optional if you want to add protein: diced chicken breast or any other bite-sized pieces of chicken
Step 1: finely cut up your spring onions into rings, separate the white from the green. dice your garlic and dice/grate your ginger if you're using any Step 2: heat up your vegetable oil in a pan, add the white spring onion rings, the garlic, the ginger, and the sesame seeds. after about 2 minutes, add the peanut butter and stir
Step 3: here, you add the chicken if you're using it, and fry until it looks done-ish, otherwise add soy sauce and then vegetable broth, as well as a little bit of sesame oil to taste, and your spices. it doesn't really need any salt at all
Step 4: let it simmer until thickened (if you had chicken, the simmering also ensures it cooks all the way through and ends up really tender)
while doing that, heat up water for your instant udon and cook according to the package instructions. it shouldn't take longer than five minutes
when the noodles are done, add them to the sauce along with the green spring onion rings and enjoy!
#<3#thanks for asking!!#this is a super tasty favorite of mine. it ends up tasting so rich and comforting#plus with how much of it is optional the only fresh ingredients you really need are spring onions#everything else is stuff that you can have in store forever#i did two weeks ago when i was really sick make this cold and with garlic powder and no spring onions#just mixed together what i did have on hand and poured it over the noodles#it was still pretty decent just a bit thin but it was an emergency meal situation

(reposting this post from last year because it won’t show in my travel tag and it annoys me quite a bit (((a whole fucking lot))))
5 years ago and last year, I didn’t appreciate Korean food much. But during my last trip to Seoul, I learned to love the food I didn’t even like before! In fact, I spent quite a lot on food >__> So I decided to get the most out of the spending by… writing it down. My overlimit credit card and I proudly present:
SEOUL CULINARY DIARY
Fried chicken 양념 치킨 (yangnyeom chicken) is the first meal I had during the trip. Getting exhausted and hungry while trying to find Sinseonggak Jajangmyeon from Gongdeok Station, a hole in the wall chicken place got me interested. The owner saw me hesitating in front of her shop so she encouraged me to go inside, and I went. The place only had one table with 2 chairs. I was doubting at first, but ended up ordering half and half chicken set with fries. I was actually trying to order rice, but they don’t have it there (fortunately so, because I ended up struggling to finish the chicken). They served the chicken and fries with coleslaw and 치킨 무 (chicken mu) aka cubed radish pickle. Not much to say other than how amazingly delicious the chicken was, it’s like KFC but a zillion times better. Asked for more coleslaw because it was so good, fresh cabbage and tasty mayo. Also, I used to not like chicken mu but I ended up enjoying it. What I was surprsied about was that this little restaurant accepts credit card! They have that cashier machine thingy too. Really impressed. My guess was it was sponsored by the government for small businesses. If only the government here does that too~
My visit to Hello Kitty Cafe at Hongdae was planned. Pretty easy to find, you can follow this map here. I instantly chose strawberry mousse because it was the most representative of Hello Kitty. Tastes good, but nothing special. For drink, I ordered sweet potato latte because it seemed unique. It tastes just like our sweet potato, but in liquid phase. Overall, this place was nice to hang and chat, but the dessert was quite expensive. The mousse alone was 11500 KRW (around 130k IDR / 10 USD).
Still hungry after dessert and strolling around Hongdae, Izakaya bar was my next stop. Though it was a Japanese bar, it had 막걸리 (makgeolli aka Korean rice wine). The price for 1 litre of makgeolli was only 8000 KRW (87k IDR / 6.7 USD). Unfortunately, they asked me to order one food menu too aside from drink, so I ordered beef okonomiyaki (sadly it had shrimp and octopus too, so I didn’t enjoy it much). The makgeolli was nice. You had to drink it with a tin bowl. Felt quite buzzed by the end of the night because I had to finish half of this jar, possibly more.
Seoul was raining the next day, so a bowl of 삼계탕 (samgyetang aka ginseng chicken soup) seemed like a good choice for lunch. Personally, I am not really fond of samgyetang. I think it lacks the spice, but maybe it’s because my tongue is too used to overly spiced Indonesian food. Anyways, Tosokchon Samgyetang is a famous place, so I went there. The atmosphere was great there. I got the middle floor seat, sitting between a chinese tourist family and a couple of college guys. Ordered one regular samgyetang (there are a few types of samgyetang, but I chose the cheapest one, of course), a bottle of soju, and one pajeon. The pajeon came so late I thought they forgot this (they didn’t write the order, but only remembered it in their head). Pajeon had shrimp and octopus so I had to remove them before eating them. Samgyetang tastes like samgyetang did, I didn’t have improved opinion of it. But the weird part was I kind of didn’t hate soju anymore?? I used to dislike it, because it smelled like nail polish remover and tasted like how nail polish remover probably tastes like. Still smelled vividly like that, but I could finish half a bottle (probably more) of it. Obviously I got drunk in the middle of the day and passed out on the train ride.
SUM Cafe is located near Cheongdam Station Exit 6. I took pics and took a look at the magazines displayed there, but apparently you couldn’t sit in the cafe and read magazine without buying anything, so I ordered a lemon tart + coffee set. The lemon tart tastes just like those lemon biscuits from Khong Guan assorted biscuits tin. I meant it in a good way, because I like them biscuits. But this tart was way to overpriced. I went downstairs to take a look at the new SUM Market. It was a mini market, but the goods are packaged with SM artist names or arts on it, and sold about 5-10 times more expensive than the regular goods with regular packaging. In other words, the place was a capitalist hell. Sadly I still bought a thing, aka a bottle of SHINee’s sparkling water. Sounds ridiculous, but it was the least ridiculous thing of all things there. It was also the cheapest.
I got drunk for the 2nd time that day, this time at a bar called Oz in Itaewon. Last year I went to why not, the bar across from it, but it was too quiet and exclusive, so I chose Oz for a new experience. Because it was early, the bar still only had a few people. The bar was small with only bar seats available. The bartenders were CUTE and they tried to chat with us, albeit struggling while doing so. I ordered Banana Bomb, aka banana uyu mixed with vodka. Unexpectedly, it was really tasty. I wish we had banana uyu here so I could make this drink every other weekend. I can’t recall what others drank, but mine was the tastiest. Tho I didn’t reject Luthfi’s offer to finish his drink.
On the morning of my Railbike+Nami+Garden of Morning Calm Tour, I went to 7-11 to buy snacks. I was about to buy my favorite snack aka Thor’s Pretzel. But like dramatic fated meeting of lovers in kdramas, I stumbled upon a 2+1 deal for Cheese In The Trap potato chips! As a passionate CITT fan ☠webtoon only☠ I instantly bought it. I finished those three tubes mostly by myself during the whole day trip.
At Nami Island, I had lunch in the BBQ restaurant. Originally, I only ordered the pork one, but the restaurant won’t let 2 people share one set. Finally, one pork set, one chicken set, a bowl of dwenjang jjigae, and two bowls of rice were ordered. Plates of banchan and lettuce were served as well. Dwenjang jjigae came first, so I ate it with rice because it was cold and I was hungry. Personally, I didn’t enjoy it very much. Then, the meat came and I got into the grilling. I tried the wrap with kimchi and pickled chilli, but I ended up liking it without. Maybe because I’m not into Korean pickled things in general. All in all, the grilled pork and chicken was A++++ and I ate very happily. Most likely because it was the first time I ate rice in 4 days.
As I arrived at the Garden of the Morning Calm, I saw stalls of street food and I spotted The French Fries Coated Corndog!! I never found it in Seoul, so it got me super excited. After I finished going around the park, I went to buy it right away. They offered a few choice of sauce such as tomato ketchup, mustard, etc. I chose garlic. It was way tastier and better than the other corndog. I was so pleased. It was also so big and fulfilling.
The last day in Seoul, I chose to have brunch at Myeongdong Kyoja. Located near artbox in Myeongdong, it was easy to find. Famous for its 칼국수 (kalguksu aka knife cut homemade noodle), I ordered that along with a set of 만두 (mandu aka dumpling). Kalguksu had the width and thickness of pho noodle and the broth looked thick and rich but it was refreshing and not heavy. It got minced meat (pork? I think) and four dumplings. I enjoyed it very much. The portion was big, tho. And I still had to eat half of the dumpling set too. It was too much, but it was a great meal nonetheless. I had to poop before eating to reserve some space for the food.
Notes: All restaurant stated above (except street snack stalls) accepts credit card and provides free water.
Phew.
So that was my culinary diary from my last trip to Seoul. It was very mind opening. I had a great time and I feel like Seoul will never bore me?? There are still so many restaurants on my list that I have yet to visit. Which means I absolutely have to go back, right?
Right.

Jakarta's secret gems you should try even tho you're broke as Fuck !. Part 1
Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. Famously known as the most crowded traffic city in the world, the central of urbanization in Indonesia, full of people, vehicles are everywhere, and sometimes can be freaking chaotic. A huge city with so much of modern skyscrapers towering above 10million+ citizens, you'll find Jakarta full of contrasts, from a wealth and poverty, historical and high end modern places, you'll overcome life, tears, and love also in Jakarta.
Let's back to the main purpose of this story. My point is, id like to tell everyone some (secret) places in Jakarta (mostly place to eat) that is not that expensive but worth a visit!. Whether you're currently living your life in Jakarta or Have a plan to visit Jakarta these places should be on your Bucket list, FOR SURE!!!
1. Waytuki Vegetarian, Indian Cuisine.
This vegetarian restaurant would definitely get 5 stars from me, compared with any other Vegetarian restaurants I've been up to. My first impression about this place was, clean, quiet, tidy, the strong aroma of Indian spices and of course cheap price!. The India atmosphere when entering this restaurant will make you think that you're in Mumbai with a Bollywood music echoing and a beautiful mural on the wall. This restaurant serves of course Vegetarian food in Indian style from a thick curry to a tasty Briani. I ordered Briani rice with curry, pratta bread, and Mango Lassi'.
All the dishes came with side dish sauce and curry so you could your bread into. The portion of Briani Rice was big, Prata Bread was filled with some potato and some "fake" meat, the Curry, however was seriously stunning and Mango Lassi' was a bit sour yet still delicious!. The Good News. The total price was bellow 120K Rupiah for 3 Persons! Approx: 40K / Person.
Location: Waytuki Vegetarian, Jl. Pintu Air Raya No.28, RT.6/RW.1, Pasar Baru, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta City, Jakarta 10710, Indonesia
2. Ragusa (Es Italia).
Next Time you feel sweaty on a sunny day, then have a stop to this place RAGUSA (Es Italia), but be patience because this place is always full of people. Established since 1930, this legendary place deserves a predicate The First and The Oldest Ice Cream Place in Indonesia. I think what makes this place always full of people because of the Ice Cream itself and the affordable price. The price around 15K - 35K Rupiah.
I ordered Banana Split and Special Mix. I could say the taste was fine and good. The Ice Cream reminds me about an old kind of Ice Cream seems more like the traditional one. However the place was small and full of people and Lil bit dirty. They only serve Ice Cream.
FYI: I don't know either, which one is the oldest one, Ragusa or Zangrandi In Surabaya. But both of them are good and serves Ice Cream too.
Location: Ragusa Restoran Dan Ice Cream Italia, Jl Veteran 1 No. 10, Gambir, RT.4/RW.2, Gambir, Kota Jakarta Pusat, DKI Jakarta 14410, Indonesia
3. Galeri Buku Bengkel Deklamasi (TIM) .
Located in downtown Jakarta, specifically in the same area with Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) this place will satisfy for all those who crazy for books and some of the old goodie stuff!!. I can stand for hours in this place for just looking some books to buy! Awesome this place is AWESOME!!. This small independent bookstore selling new and used (mostly) books with some old stuffs like a cassette. If you are looking for some used - rare books, well you need a Lil-bit effort to stroll the aisles. You know, having such a cheap-affordable books that caught your eye will make you want to purchase every book, especially for the master of a bookworm!!. Some books from Cholin Thubron and an Indonesian author like Aryantha Soethama are commonly found at this cool place. I can get 3 books for only (below) 100K rupiah.
Well, overall, this place has made me realize that reading a book is important same as feeding my stomach, I have to regularly feeding my brain so that I Could learn whether is new-thing or knowledge. This place is seriously telling me that I should spend my time more often reading a book (since it has definitely consumed by work, technology, and Internet). I'm so glad that I found this Place, I highly recommend it to everyone in Jakarta.
FYI: At that time, I had a chance to interview directly with the owner Mr. Jose. This bookstore established since April 28th, 1996. The costumer come from all over the world, USA, Europe, Malaysia, Singapore and many more. Back In time some public figures were often bought some books from here, like Moerdiono and Salim Said - Until now, Moeldoko, Prabowo, Muhammad Nuh, Anis Baswedan, Sandiaga Uno, Fauzi Bowo, Fadli Zon and many more other.
Location: Galeri Buku Bengkel Deklamasi, kompleks Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) Jalan Cikini Raya, Jakarta Pusat, RT.4, Cikini, Jakarta, Kota Jakarta Pusat, DKI Jakarta 14728, Indonesia
4. Martabak Orins.
Martabak Orins have it all, the overload Toppings, the brilliant taste, and of course the most affordable Martabak Millennials in Town!. For me, Martabak Orins is the only one thing that I HARDLY CAN'T AFFORD even though I am full as heck. Martabak is an Indonesian kind of pancake that commonly famous "lately" with toppings like Nutella, matcha, Skippy and any other millennial’s kind of taste. But the original one is chocolate and cheese.
Few times a month, me and some of my fellow workers and some friend order this martabak. I have no words to say about this Martabak, Should definitely on your list when you're around Jakarta. I Would not recommend any martabak joint unless this Orins. The price is bellow 100K Rupiah. Worth every Rupiah you've Spent!
Location: Click HERE
5. Mie Ayam Bakso Yunus !.
If you are the big fan of Noodles and meatballs, well this one is for you. Bruh, I mean it BRUH. When I tell you its good, its really fucking good. This place one of the most affordable noodles on the market (probably). The noodles, it goes out like that super-fast serving!. It's served steaming hot with some seasoned chickens on the top, meatballs which is quite chewy and soft at the same time, the broth is so so tasty and delicious, also you can add the crispiness with some cracker what perfect comfort-food for a rainy day. At 50K Rupiah you'll get 2 (Mie Ayam Bakso) and Ice Tea. Well Priced, good portions, classic Indonesian Flavors, Why don't I eat here more often.
FYI: The only downside of this place is the parking area, Park your car around Tebet Traditional Market.
Location: Mie Ayam Bakso Yunus, Jalan Tebet Barat Dalam VIII D, Tebet Barat, Tebet, Kota Jakarta Selatan, DKI Jakarta 12810, Indonesia
6. Bubur Ayam Barito.
THE BEST BUBUR AYAM IN TOWN! Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!.
Whenever I need a chicken porridge this place where I'll be headed. The porridge is Thick, its already tasteful with or without additional soy sauce and the diced chickens are quite a lot. The best part is this cheese stick that will add a crispiness while eating the soft warm porridge. The portion, however large and pretty filling, but even so they were just too good to have any leftovers. Overall the porridge was FANTASTIC!. Brace yourself, this place is always full of people. The price around 16K - 19K rupiah. And they only open at night start at 6PM.
Location: Bubur Ayam Barito, Jl. Gandaria Tengah 3, Kramat Pela, Kebayoran Baru, RT.3/RW.4, Kramat Pela, Jakarta Selatan, Kota Jakarta Selatan, DKI Jakarta 12130, Indonesia
7. Gulai Tikungan (GULTIK).
Absolutely Cheap. I had often heard about this place "Gultik" as one of the most visited street-food in Jakarta, as recommended by most people I know so I decided to give a shot. Basically Gulai is the Indonesian kind of dish made from beef and sometimes chickens, rich with curry-like spice and a thick yellowish sauce. Unlike another Basic Gulai, this Gultik has a light sauce (pretty much like a broth) and small portion, yet still has a rich-delicious taste of Gulai will make you fall in love with it right away. For normal, it Took 3 up to 4 portions / person. With the price approx 10K ++ Rupiah / portion.
Actually, there are several stalls that sell some similar foods (Gulai) but my favorite one placed right in front of "Hanamasa". Why?, because I think the place was much better compared with others stalls. They also sell "Siomay" which is nice and cheap also. However, some people might say that the authentic and original seller is located in front of SMA 70.
FYI: Looking for parking could be so so stressful here.
Location: Gulai Tikungan, Jl. Mahakam No.28, RT.1, Kramat Pela, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta City, Jakarta 12130, Indonesia
To be continued...
Thank you for reading this. For the next I'll post other places in Jakarta, that you have to try. If you guys have some secret place in Jakarta that I should review it, I would happy to know it through the comment section below or through my askFM link bellow ! Happy for sharing.

Whisk dry ingredients: Whisk together flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl until combined. Set aside.
Beat sugars, oil, and eggs: In a stand mixer or using a hand mixer, beat together sugars, oil, and eggs for about 1-2 minutes until slightly fluffy. Add vanilla and sour cream.

Paris + London Eats
We spent the bulk of our trip in Paris, so the majority of the food you’ll see in this post is from our time there, but one of the best meals we had was in London. We’ll get to that in a bit.
Before I even dive into the restaurants we visited, I feel the need to throw a few disclaimers out. My experience with food while in Paris, outside of the pastries and sweets, was not the best. I'm sure a lot of that had to do with the fact that I've never left the US until now so experiencing authentic food from somewhere else was completely out of my comfort zone. I’m a very picky eater. I’m also the type of person that tries different things on the menu but I do so up until I find that one thing I really like (usually some sort of pasta), and from that point forward I get the exact same thing every single time. I’ve become more open to expanding my palate in recent years, but at my core, I don’t like very many things when it comes to food…unless it’s full of sugar, of course (sad, I know). With that said, take my thoughts about the food in Paris and London with a grain of salt.
I've listed the nine (9) restaurants we visited, and I've included my thoughts on the meals we had with a rating of my experience (using a five-star scale).
PARIS EATS Le Cercle **
This is the first place we visited to grab food while on our trip. It was the start of my underwhelming experience with food. I wasn't happy with the way my burger was prepared including the bacon that came with it that felt undercooked. Mario wasn't impressed with his meal either.
We appreciated the host here, who spoke a bit of English for us to help us understand the menu to place our orders.
Café Gustave ****
We had brunch here before our tour of the Eiffel Tower. It was simple and inexpensive and quite delicious. The omelet and salad we had paired together really well. The special was fairly inexpensive and came with croissants, juice and coffee.
Le Champ de Mars ***I had a pretty basic salad here with tomatoes and avocados as the highlights of the dish. It was good but I wasn’t impressed. Mario had chicken with a light gravy-like sauce that was really good, along with a side of fries.
Mario opted for a dessert here and it proved to be quite tasty! I also appreciated how the menu included a description of each item in English.
Hure’ Createur De Plaisir **** A breakfast spot where we grabbed croissants, pastries, you name it. So, so good...and sweet. This is where I had the best macaroon I’ve ever had in my life, a pistachio macaroon.
Angelina ****
OMG, y’all. We went here specifically for the hot chocolate and it was so worth it. It was called, Chocolat Chaud "Africain", and it tasted like chocolate, and chocolate only had been melted down into a smooth and creamy consistency then poured into a cup. It was so rich and delicious and almost too much to take in. We couldn’t even finish the chocolaty goodness because it was just that rich. Good. Pricey. But, again, so very worth it!
We also had eggs here that I could have done without because of the price. We ended up spending over $55 at this restaurant for breakfast on a serving of eggs and hot chocolate for each of us. Way too much for what we got. In hindsight, we should have gotten hot chocolate only here.
youtube
Boulangerie Patisserie De La Tour Eiffel ***
I got more eggs while here. I learned that I couldn’t go wrong if I ordered that, so I got an omelet and a salad for dinner, which I enjoyed. Mario had a burger, fries and a salad which I tried and thought was well-prepared too.
Before we arrived I learned that in order to get water without being charged for bottled water we should ask for a jug of water specifically. So, “une carafe d’eau, s’il vous plaît” was one of the few key phrases I learned before our arrivea and used everywhere we went!
New-York a' Paris **
We had a really late dinner here on our last night in Paris. We just wanted to head back into the heart of the city one more time and this is the place Mario decided we should check out. The food here felt a bit larger than life, and I felt like our burgers had way too much going on. But, the flavors were good.
The atmosphere was great as well, and the host was super nice. She served us champagne on the house when she found out we were visiting Paris to celebrate our anniversary.
LONDON EATS
Café Rouge***
We had breakfast here while in London. Again, just like in Paris, I felt the bacon wasn’t cooked as well as I’d prefer. But everything else we had was pretty good, especially Mario’s French toast.
I liked the atmosphere here as well and the open windows throughout. I noticed that was the case in many restaurants we visited in Paris as well; that indoor/outdoor feel meshed together when it came to sitting down for a meal. I really liked that about being there.
Pizza Express *****
Hands down, one of the best pizza’s I’ve ever had. Ever. This, of course, was my favorite meal of the entire trip. Both of us really enjoyed our meal here!
Funny story: We had a really hard time deciding on where to go. I mentioned this place and he brushed it off. After walking in (and out of) about three places Mario was finally fed up and agreed to go here. He was so happy we did from the moment he add the cheese bread. The dough balls were excellent as well. Good. Simple. Yummy.
The best!
I'd love to hear about your food experience in other countries. Do you tend to enjoy almost everything that's put in front of you; embracing new flavors and dishes? Or, is your palate as immature as mine?
xoxo, Nicole
