Something I've found I really dislike about fandoms in general is how often many of them fall into discussing just headcanons about the characters to the point that they start missing the point of the characters themselves. Like I get it, shit is fun to do! Absolutely. And there's a level of it that I think totally works longform too, where these headcanons are informed by objective facts from whatever media, like the Burnt Ivory King from Dark Souls 2 possibly being a woman, things like that. But some fandoms get so deep into the headcanons they come up with that they start treating them as fact and will start to just overlook the actual facts about a character, or what a character's narrative purpose really is. I just find it really frustrating, especially when I think the media has a lot to say or is generally overall interesting, but actual discussions about it online are dominated by "these two characters are definitely in love and that is a fact because this one boss fight has some arguable sexual tension" like these characters are so much more than that! Please!
