So I’ve had the Ceremonials album on repeat for the last month or so, partly because tis the season and partly because of hearing Seven Devils in the AAA teaser again. Which I think we all can agree whoever chose that needs a raise.

And damn y’all, it really reads like the Agatha AgathaRio show’s bespoke album. Idk maybe I’m reaching but i swear to god, there are some crazy aligned songs in here.

Strangeness and Charm - Rio, idk what else to say

No Light reads to me like a conversation between Rio and Agatha post Nicky, it’s devastating. Can also read parts of it as Agatha to Nicky (no light no light in your bright blue eyes, i never knew daylight could be so violent. You can’t choose what stays and what fades away, I’d do anything to make you stay.) DEVASTATING.

Don’t get me started on Bedroom Hymns.

Anyway, there are some outliers but it’s kinda freaky. Makes me wonder if Jac has heard the full album (I mean if they used Seven Devils in the trailer, I would imagine)

Whatever happens, if we started with Seven Devils, I can only hope we end with Spectrum, that’s all I’m sayin.

I’m really growing to appreciate that once we got Dune two and actually saw Florence Pugh take on the role of Irulan the paulirulan tag grew in size over the last couple of months. I’m glad I’m not the only one seeing the (potential) fail marriage of the century vision here. Denis can’t let me down the material is really all there.

This is not to say that I don’t like paulchani but the way Villanueve has changed certain aspects of Chani’s character (for the better in my opinion) has shifted how I feel about that dynamic. I’m not really sold on the passionate all consuming young love fest of it all, especially with how it’s played up in the books. Don’t get me wrong there are some beautiful lines but I can’t help but think about the missed opportunity with irulan (as a character and her relationship dynamics).

I also had my brain warped by Florence and Timothee’s chemistry in little women so I’m part of the apparent minority (?) that believes they’ll likely have better chemistry than paulchani. (Note: I have also seen racist stans on twitter praise their chemistry over zendaya and timothee on account of Zendaya being biracial which is disgusting and stupid).

I could write a whole separate meta on what I like about Denis portrayal of Chani but it honestly boils down to her having more agency and actual principles. We as an audience know she comes back to Paul obviously, we just don’t know when and what changes her mind. Which is very intriguing because I’d like to know what Paul gets up to in that time of separation and how irulan is involved. I also think, if Denis were to go this route, Chani could play a key role in forming a resistance against Paul’s rule (something she could end up abandoning when she goes back to him, also interesting to study motivations there. I feel like that can get really dark with Paul involved). Then the two would be on opposing sides in the similar way I imagine paulirulan would be on opposing sides vying for power in different ways as they rule together (like Paul promised in Dune part two, another key difference from the book alluding to a more interesting complex dynamic).

All of this is to say I want a real love triangle that’s not really a love triangle bc everyone is doomed by the narrative and it’s all really dark and gross, thus making it romantic.

I like the breakdown in the Deadline article. They pointed out that Challengers had the 2nd biggest opening of an R-rated romantic drama since the pandemic, second only to Don't Worry Darling which debuted to $19.4M. That movie mobilized Harry Styles hardcore stans and it was a mystery thriller. Challengers is not that. And many of the articles compare it to Saltburn which also has the homoerotic elements, creative visuals, catchy music, morally dubious protagonists, popular young cast while also being considered artsy with its Oscar winning writer-director and cast full of Oscar nominees and winners. Challengers already made more domestically and globally in 1 weekend than Saltburn made throughout its entire run. Deadline also breaks down how much money was spent on TV advertising (which is generally the most expensive item in promo budgets). It was $4.3M which is not a lot. The promo tour of Challengers got a lot of visibility because Z leaned heavily on her fashion card and was able to do stuff like getting the covers of the American and British Vogue, have a spread in the NY Times and get all the fashion and entertainment accounts to cover her. Amazon didn't have to pay for that coverage and they didn't even pay for the international premieres (which were not huge events, but allowed Z to make an impression), only for the LA one

Overall what we have to consider is what would be the box office if the movie if Z was replaced by a good but relatively unknown actress. First it's highly likely that the movie would not even get a wide release and would be limited to a few art house theatres and would not reach $5M globally through its whole run. So already the presence of Z made a $20M difference. And for Amazon another big aspect regarding profitability is how well it does on Prime and Zs popularity will also help in getting people to watch it there

I think all of that is mostly true. I do think the thought from some on the other side that the movie got so much press because Z and so therefore it should have seen more of a bump from that, but to your point I'm not sure that this film gets a widespread release without her in the first place.

Don't Worry Darling had Harry Styles, but there was also so much drama around the production and Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh that I think it had initial interest because of that and then kind of flamed out afterwards.

lmao yeah i know her ways, i actually didn't bother to check this account because when i saw it defending MP to any extent i just read it as a typical gayrrie. but now that i've checked the account, it is indeed another ZOT3 alias.

i'm telling y'all, she had a fake zayn account once to try and look normal. she's a low key zayn stan.

you can also see her interests dip and dive, for example i remember blocking some of her accounts which referenced taylor and the lesbian taylor conspiracies, but now you can see she's truly threatened so is talking about her a lot more.

can never forget when she claimed that after the stans waited outside taylor swift concerts to hang out and sing together, that harry styles fans would soon be doing that. they didn't. not only didn't they, but there were still tickets to all his shows available.
