summary: what happens when your academic rival and sworn enemy starts acting like he’s sweet on you?

the bell on the door chimed softly as you pushed it open and stepped inside the coffee shop. the rich aroma wafted through the air and surrounded you immediately as your favorite barista called out a quick welcome to you. you pulled your tote bag closer to your side as your eyes scanned the shop, and you smiled when you located your friends at a booth near the back. you made your way over to them quickly, immediately chuckling at their conversation.

“so i told her to put a sock in it! like seriously, nobody cares!” your friend alice giggled, her saccharine sweet voice filling your ears as you sat. she was gesturing with her hands as she spoke, and though you didn’t know the subject matter just yet, you laughed along too. next to her, your roommate laura was nursing a very large iced vanilla latte as she propped her head on her hand.

“i agree,” laura stated, glancing around the table. “also guys, this iced latte is the bomb diggity.”

clara, your other close friend and alice’s roommate, laughed at their conversation as well before turning her gaze toward you. “why the long face?” she asked, reaching across the table to grab your hand.

the gesture was sweet and provided comfort, something you appreciated about her. “just pissed about biology again,” you replied, looking around the group. your friends made sympathetic sounds as they looked you over, knowing how hard it’d been for you this semester.

the barista walked over seconds later with a large iced matcha and sat it in front of you, smiling as she placed it on the coaster. “looked like you were having a rough day,” she tutted, patting her hand on your shoulder softly. “this one’s on the house.”

you thanked her profusely before she walked away, and then you turned your attention back to your friends. “was justin pissing you off again?” laura asked, a concerned gaze spread across her features, “you seem so flustered.”

and she was right. you were flustered. he’d been making your life so miserable lately… but the problem was that he wasn’t really doing anything at all. you couldn’t stand him because he always seemed to know the right answer, he was so smart and the only person who seemed to truly rival you academically. it was frustrating, infuriating that a quarterback who’d most likely end up going pro was beating you out of academic achievements, especially when you wanted to make this your career.

you cleared your throat and looked around the group before beginning to tell them about your very strange morning, and your very awkward encounter with justin.

the day started innocently enough. laura had an earlier class than you so she was gone when you woke up, but she’d made sure to leave you a note behind with a muffin sitting next to it, and you made sure to thank her while you were telling the story. she nodded in response, engaged with what you had to say. 

you had taken a quick shower and gotten dressed, packed your bag and grabbed your water bottle and headed off to class, all normal parts of your day. all three of the girls focused their attention on you while you spoke, excited for what you had to say next. 

once you got to class, things started to take a turn… but not for the worst. your eyes immediately found justin, already seated at the front of the room, and that had always pissed you off. his much larger frame made it difficult to see sometimes, but you had to pick your battles and today you’d decided this wasn’t one. you took a seat a few rows behind him and grabbed your computer and notebook from your bag before placing them on the table. the lecture was short and you tried to focus on the busy work your professor had assigned, scribbling thoughts into your notebook mindlessly as you scrolled through the documents she’d sent over on your computer. 

it wasn’t hard work by any means, but it seemed to be tripping up a few people in the class based on how many students you’d seen trot over to her desk to ask questions in the last half-hour. after about the fifth or sixth student, she stood from the desk and walked to the podium to address the class, something you knew would end up angering you. 

“since we are having difficulties with the assignments,” she began, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose, “you’ll do it as partners. you may pick your partner, but i don’t want to see or hear any playing around. and it’s still due tomorrow by 11:59p.m.” 

you sighed heavily. you didn’t know hardly anyone in the class nor did you want to do partner work with anyone. suddenly, you heard a deep voice speak to the professor, asking her “can we work alone?” and you knew it was justin. 

you watched her shake her head no and justin tipped his head back in frustration as he realized he’d have to pick someone. he gathered his things and stood from the desk, towering over the rest of the room as he walked slowly toward your table and sat down next to you. 

you looked him up and down as he took up most of the space in your area, disgust evident on your face. “i figured we could work together,” he said, rubbing his hand over one of his biceps, “at least this way there��ll be no cheating and we can both do an even amount of work.” 

as high-school as it sounded, he was right. to this day people still tried to get you to take over and do most of the work in projects. you shrugged reluctantly before answering him. “fine, we can work together. which sections do you want to do?” 

you watched him scroll through the information on his computer before telling you that he could do sections 1a through 12c if you’d take 1d through 12f. 

“okay,” you softly mumbled. justin’s eyes lingered on you for a few moments before he turned back to the work, and you wondered what he was thinking. 

he didn’t know why you hated him so much. he admired you, he admired your brain. justin didn’t think he was a naturally smart person, he had to study really hard all the time to get the grades he did, and for you it came so naturally. he could kinda tell you saw him as competition, but he never understood why you’d always been so cold to him. 

he watched you as you worked quietly, but he could sense the agitation that was bubbling up inside of you. 

“why are you staring at me?” you finally asked him, your eyes shooting daggers in his direction. “sorry,” he replied, looking back at his computer screen. there were fifteen minutes left of class, something you were both silently thankful for. 

you began writing answers down in your notebook again as you watched him slowly stick his hand into his bag, grabbing something softly before pulling it out. his large hand obstructed your view from what he was holding, but whatever it was sounded a little noisy as the tiny box shook from his movements. 

he placed the small pink box on the table and slid it toward you and you slowly realized that it was a package of your favorite valentines day candy, conversation hearts. you gave him a look as if to ask “for me?”, and he nodded softly. 

you picked the small box up and popped it open, dumping a few of the candies out on to the table. your eyes scanned the silly messages on the tiny hearts before you picked up a pink one and popped it into your mouth. the sweet candy immediately began to melt on your tongue and the corners of your mouth turned up slightly into a smile. 

“how’d you know i liked these?” you asked justin, a pleased look adorning his features. “i overheard you telling laura you loved them the other day in the coffee shop. i just wanted to get you some because… well, just because,” he replied. he was lying, but you didn’t need to know that yet. he got them for you because he had a huge crush on you, and even if that didn’t phase you at all, he still wanted to be your friend. 

you were confused but you still mumbled a quiet “thank you.” 

the last bit of class went by quickly, and once you were dismissed you grabbed up all your stuff and quickly shoved it in your bag, ready to head over to the coffee shop to meet the girls and debrief this whole situation. justin packed his things as well, and before he turned to leave he quickly asked you, “are you free tonight? o-only because we have to make a powerpoint for this as well.” 

he was nervous, and you’d be lying if you said you weren’t too. his question had almost made you panic, you thought maybe he was trying to ask you on a date. “yeah, i’ll be free around six, does that work for you?” you replied, rubbing your arm sheepishly. 

“six sounds perfect, do you wanna come to my dorm? my roommate will be out so it’ll be quiet and we can focus,” he added. 

you shook your head yes as you slung your tote over your shoulder. “that sounds good to me! laura will be home but she’ll just be watching reruns of friends while she does her work,” you laughed. 

“i love that show,” justin smiled. you exchanged numbers quickly and justin fired off his dorm number to you in a quick text.

you looked down at the table and saw the box of candy still sitting there, so you picked it up and began to place the pieces you hadn’t eaten yet back in the box. justin was examining them as you did so, and before you could grab the last one he trapped it under his finger before sliding it across the table to you. 

“well, seeya later!” he smirked, lifting his finger off the candy and turning toward the door. you watched him walk away before you looked down at the little green heart that sat on top of the wooden tabletop, its yellow lettering staring back up at you. ‘cya l8r’ was printed boldly on top of the tiny confection.

all of your friends stared at you with wide eyes before alice squealed, doing a little happy dance in her seat. laura and clara giggled at your confusion. “what’s so funny? i’m upset that i have to do this project with him and you guys are laughing?” you asked, feeling slightly offended. 

“oh my god, don’t tell me you’re that oblivious, y/n!” alice joked before taking a long swig of her iced chai. you took a hefty drink of your matcha before replying. “oblivious to what exactly?” you questioned.

“oh my god, earth to y/n!” clara jested, snapping her fingers in front of your face. “he likes you!” 

you grimaced as the three of them giggled again. “he doesn’t like me. why would he like me?” 

“hello?” laura laughed, “he literally got your favorite candy just because he overheard us talking. and he wanted to be partners with you so you wouldn’t have to do all the work for your assignment. anddddd the little joke with the candy was so cute and corny it’s like it came straight from a rom-com.”

maybe laura was right… maybe they all were. you had never thought of justin as more than anything but an academic obstacle that stood in your way of being the best in the class… but maybe he did like you. 

“it doesn’t matter if he likes me or not,” you finally spoke, trying to keep your tone calm. “i mean, thinking about it now… he is kinda cute…” you mumbled, staring off into the distance. it was no lie that justin was handsome, but something in your head was telling you to snap out of it! 

your friends all eyed you suspiciously before you spoke again. “anyway, it doesn’t matter if he likes me. i’m going over to do a project and that’s it. after that, we go back to being rivals.” 

alice cocked an eyebrow at you before she answered. “it sounds like the rivalry is pretty one-sided.” 

that couldn’t have been any more true.

hi hi!! sorry it took me so long to get to this but thank you so much for the prompts - this drabble is adjacent to your first one. it's not exactly on point but it's part of a larger fic ('so it goes') that i'm getting close on finishing up that does have actual morgan&nat interactions! this is just the lead up to that. it was going to be that but then tony and nat started talking and they have a mind of their own lol. still, i hope you love it as much as i love you for this super sweet ask <3

this takes place in this drabble's universe where tony and pepper break up (but changing it a little so it's after they have morgan) and tony and nat get together about a year and a half after infinity war. you don't have to read that one to get this one <3

At first, he doesn’t realize that he’s keeping his two lives separate. 

Natasha comes upstate often, but sporadically. They don’t speak of it, but he knows that she’s running operations for the Avengers. Sometimes, he wants to call up Bruce or Clint or Thor or, god, even Steve, and demand to know why it’s Natasha who has to keep the world together while the four of them wallow. But then he’d be a hypocrite because he’s wallowing too, and that useless conversation isn’t compelling enough to open up a line of conversation that he wants to remain closed. Plus, it would violate the unspoken agreement between Nat and him that their time is sacred, separate, and private. 

It takes him about eight months to realize that she never visits when Morgan is with him. 

Initially, he’s grateful. Morgan knows about Natasha, but only as Daddy’s friend who visits him sometimes when she’s not there. He certainly talks all about Morgan to Natasha, who easily keeps up with the proper commentary, questions, and advice when he gushes or worries about his daughter. 

Morgan, as the brilliant three year old she is, is the one who throws a wrench in things when she finds Natasha’s jacket on the couch. When Tony tells her that his friend must have left it when she was visiting a few days ago, Morgan collapses on the couch and immediately pouts. 

“Auntie Nat?” She demands in the cutest toddler voice he’s ever heard. Tony has never really liked kids, but this one? She’s amazing. He nods in response to her question. “She was here?”

Tony smiles. “She’s here a lot, munchkin. Who do you think has been helping me with all your pretty flowers?” 

“You do the flowers with her?” Tony’s brow furrows at the disgruntled tone. Is she jealous? He opens his mouth to reassure her that he loves planting flowers with her the most when she speaks again. “I wanna do flowers with Auntie Nat!” 

“You don’t even know Auntie Nat,” Tony points out, crouching down in front of her and tucking her hair behind her ear to see her face. 

“Yes I do! Mama said she’s your friend, and Uncle Rho says that they ‘venge together. Daddy, I want to ‘venge with Auntie Nat too!” 

Tony chuckles, lifting Morgan into his arms and pressing kisses to her cheeks until she giggles. “There will be no avenging, but maybe there can be flowers,” he tells her. “No promises. I have to talk to Auntie Nat first.” 

A few days later, she runs into her mother’s arms, chattering about Natasha and her red hair that she saw in pictures and can she have red hair like Auntie Nat’s or Mama’s? Pepper raises an eyebrow at Tony, who shrugs. 

“It’s about time,” she says, kissing his cheek in parting before getting into the car and driving off. It used to hurt, this part. But it doesn’t hurt anymore, because Morgan’s departure signals Nat’s arrival. 

For the first time, that idea of that separation makes him frown. 

The frown lasts for another few hours, when Nat pulls up in the 1965 Shelby Cobra, one of his favorites that he’s permanently loaned her. Not like he has to drive anywhere. He tries to put on a grin for her, but she sees right through it. 

“What happened?” She demands immediately, before even greeting him. Her eyes scan their surroundings, as if looking for a threat.  

He just shakes his head at her, holding out his arms. “Get out of the Compound mindset and into the cabin one,” he cajoles. “Kiss me, and I’ll explain.”

She caves, pressing a gentle, domestic kiss to his lips, the one he loves that makes him feel like they’ve been together forever. When she tries to pull back, he resists, holding her close for a beat longer. She allows it, sinking into his embrace in return. 

“Okay,” he sighs after another thirty seconds, leading her into the house, “I’ll tell you everything.” 

“If only it was this easy creating treaties with aliens,” she drawls, spotting her jacket on the couch. “Oh, I was looking for this one.” 

Tony ignores the second comment, turning to her with wide eyes, affecting the most offended look he can come up with on the spot. “You’re telling me you’re out there kissing aliens to get them not to destroy the Earth?” 

Natasha spots the joke from a mile away, but she plays along. He’s sure she knows how much he’s missed verbal sparring with the team. “I’ve never kissed an alien,” she retorts, but then, almost as an afterthought, something flickers in her eyes, and she turns quickly to grab the jacket. “I’ll just put this with my things upstairs, so I don’t forget it again,” she adds, walking toward the stairs. 

Spotting the flash like a seasoned veteran he is of understanding this particular woman, he narrows his eyes, following after her.  “Wait wait, what was that?” He accuses, making his way up the stairs. They creak with each of his steps, even Morgan’s light steps, but never Natasha’s. “You’ve kissed an alien?” 

“I haven’t kissed anyone since we started this,” she soothes, entering his room and hanging the jacket up in the closet space he’s left for her. She’s clearly hoping to drop the subject.

Oh no. Tough luck. He’s not really upset, especially not with this new, roundabout admission that they are exclusive, but he’s not going to let this go. “Who?” He pushes, fighting to hold back his grin. He stays in the door, bracing his hands on the frame. Not that she couldn’t get past him easily. She shakes her head, pursing her lips. “I swear I will never bring it up again, I solemnly swear, but if you don’t tell me, I’m going to keep asking and asking… better yet, I’ll ask the only alien we really know-”

The skin around Natasha’s eyes tightens just a little, but it’s enough. 

“Thor?!” He shouts, before rubbing his hands over his eyes. “Agent Romanoff… You - how - when -” 

“A mission,” she explains, short and sweet. “Before Ultron. For a cover. That’s it. Are you done?” 

Something in her voice makes him pause. “Yeah, Nat. I’m done.” She moves to leave, and he drops his hands to let her. 

The house is silent for a little while before he goes to find her. She’s on the bench on the dock, listening to the wind whistle through the trees. It’s getting dark early now, a sign of the approaching winter. The trees still have some color, though, and it’s beautiful. 

He doesn’t waste another second. “Look, honey, I’m sorry. I touched a sore spot. You know I don’t think less of you for what you’ve done, right? Because if I haven’t made that clear, I’m making it clear here and now.” 

She sighs, patting the seat next to her. He sits so that their legs press together, and she leans her head on his shoulder. 

“It’s not that,” she says. “I just… I saw Thor last week.” Tony stays silent, waiting for her to continue. “I want to respect your feelings on this, Tony,” she adds finally. 

He squeezes his eyes shut, then opens them. “Tell me,” he requests, and she does. 

She keeps it brief, but even brief, it sounds terrible. Tony had never been close with Thor; he was always going off-world, doing his own thing. Tony would never admit it, but he’s always been cautious of the demigod after realizing that it was his brother who terrorized New York. And then, during Ultron, Thor had choked him, gone off on his own again, and hadn’t really come back for any substantial amount of time afterwards. Sure, Tony’s well aware that he hadn’t tried to understand the life of a god king, but then Thor hadn’t seemed to think much of him either. 

He really hadn’t thought Natasha to be all that close with Thor either, and from her words, he hadn’t been wrong. But she’s been making efforts, and all of those efforts have been going to waste as Thor sinks deeper and deeper into a depression of which none of his friends, people, or the Avengers can cure him. 

“I didn’t want to tell you,” she says, reading the horror in his expression. 

He wants to tell her that she can tell him anything, that he’s willing to help, that he can go see Thor or Thor can come here because Tony himself is happy now, is content, is willing to help, can save the world again…

“- Hey, Tony. Tony! Listen to me, solnyshka, count my heartbeat. One, two, three, breathe.” 

He opens his eyes. He hadn’t even realized that he had closed them. “Natasha, I’m sorry,” he breathes. 

She shakes her head. Are those tears in her eyes? “No, I’m sorry. You had something to tell me?” 

“Nat, Thor-”

“No,” she says, final and serious. “No, Tony. Tell me what you wanted to say.” 

He caves. He’s afraid to admit he caves because he wants to. What kind of superhero is he? “Morgan wants to meet you,” he offers. “She saw your jacket.” He chuckles a little wetly, but Natasha is too kind to comment on it. “She’s jealous that I get to plant flowers with you and she doesn’t.” 

Natasha is silent for a moment, then: “and you want this? Pepper is okay with it?” 

This time when he laughs, it comes out clear. He can feel her relax next to him. “Of course I am,” he tells her. “You two are the best parts of my life.” Natasha smiles. “And never worry about Pepper. She saw this coming far before you or me.” 

She turns into him, burying her cold nose in his neck. Perhaps she is protecting herself from the cold autumn air, but he thinks he knows better. “With Pepper’s brains and your good looks, that kid is going to go far.” 

“What about my brains?”

“I know what I said,” she retorts, but he can feel her smiling against his neck. 

He sighs, but he’s grinning when he wraps his arm around her a little tighter, turning his face into her hair. “You’re not as inscrutable as you think, you know,” he whispers. An offered truth. 

She inhales, and they watch the lake for a while before she returns the favor. “I know. I’m not trying to be inscrutable with you,” she confesses.

OOOOh good question. That's either gotta be Angels In Hell's Kitchen (Daredevil), Talking to the Moon (ATLA), or a place where you don't need to talk all the time (Phantom of the Opera)!

I have WIPs of crossovers! Multiple, actually! There's an HTTYD x WOF one, and another one about kid geniuses from diff books! but I never went that far with it (it was fun tho)

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not exactly but kind of?? I wrote a Hamilton fic once about Lafayette hugging and kissing Hamilton and Laurens platonically and how they were embarrassed by it, and how they ended up realising that it's okay for Lafayette to be that affectionate. And I got a comment that was annoyed that a lot of people are "forcing" men to be soft and affectionate or something. I can't really remember tho because I didn't read the comment (my friend told me not to LOL)

OH GOODNESS. That's a very good question... maybe a place where you don’t need to talk all the time (Phantom of the Opera), aka my Deaf!Raoul fic! I really enjoyed writing that one.

soft thoughts on Nat? (that valentine's gifft makes ne wonder)

authors note: this is literally the cutest ask ever omfg… also ive never done soft thoughts on anyone before…?! heheh im excited (also this might be super inaccurate bc im kinda projecting but… wtv) anyways this one is probably going to be long-ish, but it can be read as gender neutral. (i got help from zehina and kylei too btw :P) also normalize men being soft in relationships please!!! they don’t always have to be the tough guy :3 i hope most of it is right @writingforstraykids hehe :3

nat has to love cuddles. it’s the same thing over and over again. you’re sad? “come cuddle 🥺” you’re tired? “come cuddle 🥺”. she’d give the best cuddles too, which leads me into the specifics… nat would hold you close to her and fondle your hair while cuddling. if you’ve read her fics, that’s one of the things she talks about most. just laying down with her while she massages your scalp and rakes her fingers through your hair like agh 🥺💕 she’s so cutie

another thing, nat really hates when someone is in pain. if an anon mentions that they’re upset, she always asks what’s wrong. and she’d do the same to you, so so so incredibly caring. she’d always ask about your day, and you could talk for hours on end, but she’d pay attention the whole time. and if you asked her to recite everything you just said, she’d parrot it right back 💕

when you have a tummyache, nat would kiss and rub your cute lil tummy till you’re content. she hates seeing her baby in pain, and does anything she can to make you feel better. just imagine small little pecks across the soft skin, her nose nuzzling into your plush with every kiss 🥺

nat gives compliments. a lot of them, to just about everyone she knows. but what if you were to turn the tables? she’d get so blushy, trying her best to stay composed. if you were to shower her with compliments, she’d get so red. especially when in public. just small gestures to show your affection and some praises thrown around here and there is enough to get her all warm and fuzzy 🥺💕

nat cares deeply about every one of her friends, so what’s to say she wouldn’t care for her lover the same? of course, she shows everyone so much love, but once you’re the one being treated this way, everything changes. everything she does and says comes directly from her heart, and she’s never afraid to show you how genuine her words are.

nat is godly at aftercare. there’s nothing she loves more than taking care of her love. she always makes sure you go to the bathroom after and runs you a bath. even after a soft scene, she will always reassure you and make sure you know how much she loves you. her heart just about bursts whenever she hearts your heavy breathing and soft snoring as you fall asleep in her arms 🥹

when it’s gloomy out and you want to go outside, the two of you will drive around for hours. nothing is better than spending time with your lover, and long drives with the light pitter-patter of the rain in the background also gives you some more time to talk to eachother. when she’s driving you, she likes to intertwine your fingers with hers and place her hand onto the gear stick, just to feel you close to her. and since you’re traveling so much, you normally try a new place to eat! kind of like a special occasion ☺️

kissing nat is so sweet too. with the small pecks here and there, as well as the steamier moments you have with her, you will always be able to feel how much she loves you. kissing is never exclusive to just the lips either, and i’m sure she’d kiss all over your face if she had the chance 💕

it’s basically impossible to hide your feelings from nat, considering how attentive she is. if you talk or text a specific way, she can tell exactly how you’re feeling just based off of that. this ties back to the point about comforting. she’s constantly checking up on you, providing as much comfort as she possibly can. she never wants her baby feeling upset 🥺💕

nat is an amazing artist. if you’ve ever seen her art, you’d know. imagine going on a nice picnic date, feeding eachother fresh fruits and doing silly poses while sketching eachother. bonus points if it’s springtime, picking flowers and braiding them into her hair 🥺 you could be there for hours with her and never get bored, not when you’re in your lovers arms with the light breeze brushing against your cheeks >//<

kisses were already mentioned, but lazy/sleepy kisses deserve their own section. you both work hard, as one does, and sometimes it’s hard to talk to eachother when you’re drained of all energy, and so is she. so what do you do? you hop into bed with her and curl into her, planting lazy kisses to her face while half-asleep. there’s something about these kisses that are so intimate, recharging you after such a long day. the two of you end up getting so comfortable that you just fall asleep in eachothers arms, lips still brushing against each others 🥺

pda with nat sounds soooo sweet. just holding hands while in public or linking arms? kisses to the cheek while walking and talking? hugs while you’re at small gatherings and watching the smile grow on her face? she’d get soooo giggly and so so happy. we all know how cuddly she is, so chances are she’d do it right back to you :3

being with nat will always feel like a dream. at some points, you may even think she’s too good to you, because that’s just how amazing she is. she loves with her entire heart, and she’s damn good at it too. you will never feel neglected or unwanted with her, not with the amount of attention and love she gives you. with all the constant reassurance, the compliments, and the sweet gestures, there’s no doubt that she loves you hehe <3

i feel like little leclerc would actually be a little shy and have anxiety (like tries to hide it) and the biggest reassurance to her is her brothers and her mum, like handholding walking around the paddock with lorenzo when theres loads of people and cameras, and when she held hands with charles in the award ceremony fic just YESSS .

like being a little shy to ask to hold their hands but lorenzo,charles and arthur secretly know/can sense when she wants to/ needs that reassurance.

and i lowkey feel like this is the one thing arthur wouldn’t like make a playful joke out of cus theyve always loved holding each others hands when they were younger .

and cuddling up to pascale during races or when little leclerc is not feeling to well/ having an anxious/ stressful day like yeass just like all the hugs and reading Pascal has given to LL in other fics

I can’t even begin with how happy i am that someone got this ? like I tried to be subtle with the handholding, cause anxiety is something (at least for me) that can be embarrassing to say out loud 😕 but the fact that you got her characterization from just a simple hold of a hand ?? the brothers and pascale def can sense it even when little leclerc doesn’t know it herself! and arthur knows her anxiety is not something he can joke about and he would never do that as well! 🥹🫶🏻

hi art 💓 so im rereading iw couples breakup drabble as one would do everytime shes on her period (its a canon event i think ppl would relate) and i have a few questions!!! 🥹🦋

1. what were the iw couple doing before they were in the car? like did they spend the day only to then break up? i rmb reading that jk was on tour, did he came back and break up w them right away? did he at least get them a present???!

2. what events led him to the decision? we know that prob he’s overwhelmed, the uncertainty of his career and the drabble from where he saw how draining it is on oc. but is there a bigger thing that happened?

3. u wrote that he “practiced” breaking up with oc. like is this true? how long has he thought of breaking up w oc before he actually did it? and how did oc not expect anything??? ☹️☹️

4. who is this “not married yet” girl that jk was teasing tae about? that sounds so saucYY a drabble for that would be super fun!! its gonna be super angsty too!!! hahahahhaha

5. we know jk regretted it right away after breaking up w oc, but why didn’t he backtrack and take it back? i know oc must’ve thought hes crazy but he didnt even call or text first? us reading is comforted by knowing that jk is also having the worst time, but oc doesn’t. yet theyre brave enough to be the one who reached out first, bc for all they know, jk could be with some other people right now, alr over them. did oc know that he’s not that kind of person or deep down they’re just being as brave as they can asking for what they wants which is him?

6. can we pleaseeeee have more drabbles where we can see how much the boys adore oc? or just their dynamic i would say. also do they have a special connection with each of the boys on different things? like maybe a drabble where jk & oc pack a homemade lunch to bring when visiting jin hobi or yoongi 🥹🥹

7. after the initial breakup, were things ever awkward? were there times when oc had to get used to him being in their life again or something less dramatic? did he ever see doubts or worry in oc’s eyes and is the even when he gave u reasons to drabble, the first time they had to address the traumatic event in their relationship? do they ever talk about it now? or laugh about it?

ALRIGHT [cracks knuckles]

1. he broke up with oc as soon as he arrived back from tour 🥲 like literally. our guy was still jetlagged. he just wasn’t in his right mind at the time honestly. oc hopped in the car thinking they were going to spend time together someplace else but… yk what happened… ofc he got oc lotssss of presents though </3 including those gifts he talked about in the video oc watched before they called him :(

2. at the time they were already making plans about what will happen in the next few years of their career including the m word ehem ehem so. yeah he was overwhelmed and tired and he felt guilty of having to always leave oc + we know how oc is so empathetic so he also felt guilty that they have to carry his burdens as well ☹️

3. probably a month 🤨 but he didn’t actually want to break up with oc yk? it felt more like a thing that he had to do </3 so oc never suspected anything because the way he was acting towards them never changed. he wanted to hold on.

4. LMAOOOOO maybe in the future i’ll get around to that 🤞🏼 but tae was going through it for reaaaaal

5. he didn’t jump out the car to chase oc because him immediately changing his mind would’ve pissed oc off thinking that he was just playing a joke on their feelings and that would earn him a slap on the face 😭 he thought of that. and oc said they wanted to decide for theirself too :( so he wanted to respect that but he ended up becoming too much of a coward to reach out first after that bcs what if oc already decided that the breakup was for the best too 🥲 what if they hate him now 🥲 but he should’ve thought about it more from oc’s pov bcs they were suffering thinking that he alr gave up frfr </3

so i didn't have much of an idea for the fic other than i wanted to explore nigel and elio's "first time" - what that would look like, the shape it would take etc. I settled on the day after the strike because in my own personal NU (nigelio universe) headcanon that's where their first kiss takes place*. I didn't think anything other than a kiss would happen at the strike, both logistically (i don't think they could get up to much fun with all those other drivers around eavesdropping!) and emotionally, as nigel is struggling with what's happening, he's going through a huge personal paradigm shift by admitting he is attracted to another man so I was always cognizant that them having full penetrative sex straight off the bat was probably not realistic, it was going to take some time to build to that.

Originally the fic was only going to be a standalone chapter, I felt like the first chapter was quite a nice neat little self contained unit and i'd done everything I wanted to with it.... and then I kept thinking about how their physical relationship might develop from that first night, and it just kind of wrote itself.

I was always quite proud of the little punny double meaning of the title - First Movement is obviously what they are literally doing, making their first move on each other, but then of course I was kind of alluding to musical movements (a symphony being made up of four movements) and that tied into Elio's piano recital. I tried to sprinkle a lot of musical references into the text as well as a little treat too, eg "heart hammering staccato in his chest" , "some strange harmony", "the steady cadence of his breathing"... Also the section names were to keep with the musical theme - prelude, overture and coda

(and then all the clever musical references kinda fell by the wayside in chapter 2, let's just ignore that 😅)

I actually found it really hard to write the first section of this, because I had already written a few versions of "nigelio have their first kiss at the strike" when I wrote this, so I was trying really hard not to repeat myself from other fics. I actually feel like the first section is a little rushed, but it does the job it's supposed to so that's the important thing!

I definitely wanted the sex for them to be a bit fumbling - it's Nigel's first time ~ever~ with a man, and although Elio's done this before he hasn't done it very often. Personally I think there has to be a bit of awkwardness in a sex scene to make it believable (especially if it's the fist time for two characters), and I just find it endearing. I find sex scenes where everything is perfect and sanitised a bit boring to read to be honest, and I was very conscious I wanted to keep it in "their" voices so to speak - my pet hate in fic is when characters just start talking like porn stars in the sex scenes, it just fills me with "he would not say that" ick 😅

I don't think I've got much more to unpack with this but this genuinely is one of my favourite of my own fics so it's so lovely to hear you enjoyed it too. Thank you! 🖤💛

Also since there HAS been so much content coming out I thought it might be fun to do a bit of a recap on everything and share some of my thoughts! I know there are at least a few people who read my fics without playing the source material or really having much baseline info on the characters before going into it (and you guys are incredibly special to me, rest assured 🫶🥺) so I figured this might be a nice way to do some little introductions!

Sticking this behind a cut so anyone who doesn’t want to see me rambling can easily skip over this post lol

In an attempt to keep things somewhat chronological, I’m going to start with the drip marketing for these two. Iirc they were officially announced one day apart, back to back, and I saw multiple people making angel/devil comparisons with them which really tickled me. 🤭

I’ll talk about Sunday first since he’s by far the character we’ve known the longest and man what a wait this has been. We met him in 2.0 and he is finally going to be playable in 2.7, and in a lot of ways it almost feels surreal that we’ve finally made it to this point. Genuinely it’s been such a bumpy, perilous ride with him. For a good moment there I wasn’t even sure if he was going to make it out alive or not, then I wasn’t sure if he was going to be playable, then leakers were saying he would be joining the Stellaron Hunters and then it was actually wait, he’ll join the Astral Express instead, and then he was getting a new outfit and for a second there it even looked like he might end up getting a new VA too. 🤣 When I tell you this man has had me STRESSED this entire time.

Luckily there is finally light at the end of the tunnel though, and I’m honestly so, so happy with how his playable look turned out! My silly little guy with his youth pastor drip 🙏🥹 He’s honestly my second favorite character in HSR right after Sampo, and I know that probably sounds bizarre for how different they are but look. I’m a woman with a refined, complicated palette okay? xmdkdmdkzk There really isn’t anything at all I don’t like about this man, he’s a little crazy but he’s also soggy and a bit pathetic at the same time, I’m sure you can see why he’s like crack cocaine to me. And the fact we’ll get to travel with him from now on … the fics really do just write themselves.

And that’s not even mentioning the religious trauma, god. I need him more than I can even put into words. Please let me win this 50/50 in a few weeks, I am begging. 🙏 😭

For Ororon I didn’t have that same immediate click with him when we got our first glimpse in the 5.0 Natlan trailer. He barely showed up for five seconds which didn’t help but he was also presented in a very mysterious, brooding kind of way that just didn’t lunge out at me. But the one thing I will always give Mihoyo credit for is they’re very good at layering different personality traits on their characters to make them not so one note. With that in mind I wanted to meet him first before drawing any definitive conclusions on whether or not I liked him.

And I am SO glad I did because he truly subverted every single expectation I think everyone had just based on that initial impression. Not only is he NOT an edge lord of the highest order, he also turned out to be one of the sweetest, cutest characters I’ve ever seen. 😭 He’s just a little guy, your honor. Please do not bully him.

He’s confirmed to be in his early 20’s but he has this very innocent, guileless manner about him that makes him feel indescribably boyish in the most charming way possible. He’s also a grandmas boy, and he calls anyone who he perceives to be older than him granny or gramps. I have some thoughts about him calling us mommy, either accidentally or on purpose … and other thoughts about him using the vegetables from his quaint little garden in less then wholesome ways. 😏 Like, guys. He loves animals, feeds squirrels, raises aphids, and he’s got his own little cottage core farm away from the rest of his village. I don’t think you understand what he’s doing to me.

With his release in game and access to his full bio we’ve also learned that he has a talent for art on top of everything else and look, I’m just saying but he might actually be perfect.

What are we looking at here, you may ask? Ororon’s art, that’s what. 😤

I was very pleased to learn that we actually do have another male character coming up in the Natlan lineup at SOME point in time, but this is the one and only look at him we’ve got so far. His name is Ifa and he’s a veterinarian, and also seems to be Ororon’s bff. I don’t have much else on him yet but we know he exists so I figured I’d mention him. For posterity if nothing else. lol

I fully admit knowing he’s a veterinarian is like having a fast pass into my pants. I love animals so if a man also loves animals there’s not really much else I can do other than fuck him, you know what I mean? 🤣 I’m very curious to find out how accurate the drawing of him is, so I’m really hoping we get to see some visual leaks coming out soon.

I’m also going to take a quick moment to talk about Mr. Reca too. Now, he doesn’t have drip marketing yet but he did appear in version 2.6 in the main storyline and wow, he was such a blast. Definitely a bit unhinged like his lightcone art suggests but in such a fun, mostly harmless way that I can’t help but stan. Also he’s a girl dad to a mechanical frog who acts as his assistant director? Good lord …

Indeed he is a little film nerd freak and also a Memokeeper, we don’t know much else about him just yet but I want to assure everyone here that as soon as I got my first glimpse of him I was looking so incredibly hard and I have not stopped looking once. He resembles Zhongli imo, if he was less unflappable and more prone to whimsy. I like that. A lot. 😏

We knew for sure Lighter was coming pretty early on into 1.2 when Caesar and Burnice got their banners so his drip marketing didn’t come as a surprise and he also has the esteemed honor of being the FIRST ever limited male 5 star in ZZZ, and yes it feels like a long time coming even though the game is only a few months old now. ✋😩 All the other men are either 4 stars or standard 5’s so I was more than likely going to pull for him no matter what. Out of desperation, and to show support for the men, even if he ended up not being to my taste.

For better or worse though, he actually turned out to be an amazing character and I fear I am very smitten with him. He’s just so cool and hard boiled, but also a little silly? A little goofy? And man, I don’t want to take up a bunch of time waxing poetic about this, but the fact he’s the only guy in the Sons of Calydon that we know about, surrounded by all women, and he is not the least bit threatened by it just really does something to my brain. Like, I unfortunately can’t add the picture due to Tumblrs image limit but his drip marketing has a little shot of him buying stuff for the girls — makeup and fashion magazines, stuffed animals and snacks and like … that’s real masculinity right there. I can’t decide if he’s like a dad or a big brother to them, but either way I am HERE for it.

I’m genuinely confident beyond a shadow of a doubt that he would have no problem at all buying tampons/pads for you, and I also think he’d be perfectly respectful about it too. He’d ask what brand you prefer, what size and what type, and he’d make sure he came back with exactly that even if he had to traverse a hollow completely blind to get it. I’d bet everything I own on that. I like him a lot. 😌

So remember when I said Mihoyo is good at layering different personality traits on their characters? Yeah, so Harumasa is another great example of that.

When we first met him I (and I think many others too) kind of got the impression that he was a smooth talking playboy type and I even called him a fuck boy on multiple occasions. 🤣 But at the start of 1.3 in Yanagi’s story quest we actually got to see him interacting with his fangirls and he was not feeling it at all so I now suspect that he probably only flirts when it’s beneficial to him, specifically so he can fall back on his good looks to get by and put in less work than everyone else. He understands what pretty privilege is and he intends to use it to his advantage. lol

I actually think he ended up being a very charming character now that weve gotten to see more of him. He’s chronically tired and maybe just a bit lazy, doesn’t like hard work or long days, calls out sick often and looks for any excuse to leave work early. He’s INCREDIBLY relatable tbh. 🤣 Based on a few brief pieces of dialogue in Yanagi’s story I’d started to suspect he might actually be for real sickly in some way but then we got a leaked image of his weapon …. And it’s literally just a pill case full of medicine. So although I don’t yet know all the details I have to say Harumasa has really grown on me since his first introduction where I mistook him for some kind of womanizer. lol And this is exactly why I like to wait and actually get to know Mihoyo’s characters before deciding whether or not I like them, they’re just so incredibly good at layering them together in a way that imo makes them feel more tangible and alive. I genuinely can’t wait to see more of him in the near future!

Gonna go ahead and just toss WuWa right here, this won’t take too long seeing as there’s only one new male announced so far! 🤪 And look, I’m going to be completely honest here. Kuro Games is really pissing me off with this because we still have not seen hide nor tail of Scar since 1.0. Let me say that again. 1.0!! It’s been MONTHS that he’s just been rotting away in jail, let him out already you sick bastards! I want him!! I need him!!

Now Brant … I literally know nothing about him aside from his appearance and his name. He was just revealed the night before last so this is literally all we’ve got atm. But I will say I think he’s real cute and I definitely think I’m going to like him a lot. It took me a while to figure out what he’s reminding me of and then it suddenly clicked that his silly little cape looks a bit like Howl’s Moving Castle, doesn’t it? I’ve never seen the Ghibli film before, just screenshots, so I’m not sure what Howl is like or how that might potentially play into Brant’s characterization but I thought that was an interesting possible connection.

I especially like the deep plunge in his shirt, that shit goes almost straight down to his pants. He might be a little slutty. 😏 And the obvious pirate motifs paired with the harlequin mask on his hip. I am definitely looking. Disrespectfully, I might add. Eager to learn more about this one tbh.

And finally we have the big HSR reveal from the livestream on Friday. 🤭 I was ofc hoping for a preview of the next planet we’ll be going to since version 2.7 will be the last update before 3.0 but I wasn’t even remotely prepared for the trailer that dropped. Three men feels like a HUGE win so yes we are definitely celebrating this one.

Much like Brant all we’ve got so far are faces and names so I won’t be able to talk too extensively about these characters unfortunately. As for my initial impressions though I will say that Anaxa has my attention the most right now. I like the eyepatch and his long hair tied in a loose ponytail over his shoulder, and just his entire general vibe. He definitely seems to be my type and for the moment he’s the one I’m most looking forward to meeting.

Mydei is next in line for me, he looks like he might be a hot blooded masculine type and in fact I’m almost reminded of Itto a bit. I think? He might be equivalent to the god of war, Ares or Mars, so he should be an interesting one.

Phainon is definitely attractive but I think he looks a bit too much like Ayato for me to get super excited for him right off the bat. I don’t dislike Ayato, mind you, but his personality just doesn’t do much for me overall — so I’m tentatively looking forward to actually meeting this guy and seeing how he is in person. All of these characters seem to be alternate versions of ones from Honkai Impact the 3rd which I know close to nothing about but based on what I’ve heard Phainon should be a Kevin expy and I think he’s pretty important? I expect he’ll probably get the characterization to match tbh so I’m choosing to trust the process for now.

And that about wraps it up!

I will say if nothing else, this has taught me that if you’re someone who enjoys male characters the key here is to play multiple games at the same time to get your fill. 🤣 Because individually other than HSR they’re really just giving us crumbs one at a time. Like going into Natlan we truly only had two confirmed boys and maybe Capitano further down the line to look forward to, the rest were all girls. But when I put them all together like this we’ve suddenly got ten men to talk about, and tbh that’s really giving me the pick me up I needed. alsmfcosmszk

Tends to face a lot of discrimination due to being a "filthy half-breed" and possessing drow ancestry, not to mention her drow parent being Lolth-sworn; her blood red right eye a telltale sign and a deep, angry scar permanently carved across it a merciless reminder of what she resents about herself

Occasionally has dreams and thoughts of the goddess Lolth speaking to her, tempting her with sweet whispers of cruelty and darkness. Mon'sun tries her damndest to resist--to stay on the path of good--but violent impulses erupt when the thin string of her patience (and sanity) snaps and it feels so fucking good

Mon'sun aligns as a chaotic neutral character. While she does try to be good, she is quite an unorthodox heroine in her personal little tale and can be pushed to make extreme decisions should she feel that they are for the better...or just whichever's a more fun option 🤭

Survived a poor and bleak childhood, but full of love in her early years; certain circumstances impacted this happiness which drastically changed everything

One of the youngest in the party, only in her early to mid 20s. And though she's not sure when her actual birth date is, she does consider the day she was adopted--saved--as such

Very resilient and versatile even through the worst scenarios (likely due to her past), but would much rather avoid problems whenever possible. She may be seen as a bit of a coward because of this though she certainly doesn't mind (she'd like to keep her gorgeous head, thank you very much!). However, there are times where she exhibits great bravery, such as standing up for the weak and defending innocents regardless of the consequences. She can also be quite mischievous and defiant with her enemies, truly a bard through and through with her vicious mockery 😈

She tries to see the good in everyone, to be patient and understanding, giving them the same chance she hopes to receive if she ever finds herself in a similar situation. However, some fuckers don't deserve that kindness and a sick, exhilarating part of her deep down yearns for the bloodshed sure to stain her hands. After all... She would only be granting them a mercy by ending their repulsive, pathetic lives...right?

She is proficient with weapons though she prefers casting spells especially ones that can be utilized from a good distance (Fireball being one of her all-time favourites--efficient and hot, both in a sexy way and an "I will feed your barbecued corpses to my widdle baby owlbear" way). She's also a fantastic cheerleader; she will happily let the stronger people on the team handle the grittier scraps of battle while she does a jaw-dropping performance of ✨️Bardic Inspiration✨️ on the sidelines (Lae'zel STRONGLY disapproves)

Skilled in stealth and sleight of hand accompanied by a biting wit (seriously, she has the potential to have been a rogue instead). Tries her best to make an honest living as a wandering bard, but whenever money and options are tight then she's driven to petty thievery. Although, as much as she hates to admit it, there is something in her that utterly relishes in the intoxicating rush of crime

Lockpicking is more so a hobby rather than a necessity for her. Funnily enough, with how much she likes to explore, she probably came across and "collected" the key that opens that mysterious door advancing the party's adventure. However, the key seems to be merely decorative because Mon'sun already opened the door since the shiny lock caught her eye as soon as the party stepped into the room! She'll even lockpick a shabby chest filled with absolutely nothing simply because she finds it to be a fun game to pass the time while everyone else debates on the next course of action (like a child being given a toy to amuse themselves with while the adults discuss boring adult shit). Astarion will even join her sometimes, and they also constantly challenge each other on who gets to disarm a trap first while the rest of the party make bets on who will win

What she lacks in strength, she makes up for with her incredible dexterity

While she is a survivor in her own right, she can't deny that pure dumb luck has saved her more times than a bard has bedded a dragon...which is definitely saying a lot

After travelling around for so long, the vast world of Faerûn has fuelled her curious mind with quite an impressive amount of knowledge along with fascinating stories to tell. But while she basks in the freedom of it all, her heart aches for a true sense of belonging; a home

She loves--and I mean LOVES--looting dead bodies. While their demise is certainly unfortunate, their loss is her grateful gain as well as a much less criminal way to obtain some quick valuables (hey, she can sympathize and get rich. It's a win-win!)

A biiit of a hoarder (perhaps she was a dragon in a past life, she jokes). Her pack is nearly always full of various junk, good and bad. She gets attached easily to these items and keeps making the excuse that "they could be handy or fetch for a pretty penny one day" all while almost never actually trying to get rid of them (DEFINITELY not me projecting myself here 👀)

She is VERY charismatic, successfully deceiving or talking her way out of many toils and even persuading powerful creatures to side with her which makes her pretty powerful, too, in her own right. On the other (much darker) hand... This sweet, cheerful bard has convinced some enemies to literally kill themselves, saving her from aaall the tough work she really can't be bothered with of ridding them herself--and she'll gladly do it again in a heartbeat. Work smarter, not harder as they say! 👏

Confident, outgoing, and playful with a flair for the theatrical; also rather perceptive to the people and things around her, but can be serious and empathetic when needed. Often tries to keep a positive (if not naive) outlook on life and continues to hold hope for a better future against all odds, yet is actually burying a devastating loneliness and pain within the depths of her soul

Can be a flirt and almost never hesitates to sleep with any man interested in her. For her, however, it's not about physical pleasure--it's about intimacy. Chasing after the high of being in someone's strong embrace, their warmth melting the icy melancholy her heart is trapped in; even if only for one, meaningless night

Despite everything, she has a big heart. She has a hard time saying no to anyone in need, her selflessness (or too much of it for that matter) sometimes leading to be a weakness. She particularly has a soft spot for children and animals, as well as being able to understand and communicate with the latter thanks to the "Speak with Animals" spell. And while she is a chaotic neutral, she instantly becomes chaotic good (emphasis on chaotic) when it comes down to animals, literally slaying everything in her path if it ensures the animal is safe from those that hurt it as well as adopting any stray back in camp if it's possible (Astarion hated it at first, until an ungodly swarm of adorable cats eventually started to appear 😹)

Besides her affinity for dramatics and the spotlight, she is usually a pretty relaxed person. That all changes, however, when a party is involved. Bring her to a lively tavern and pump some drinks into her system and she's more than ready to live it up the entire night! Good luck trying (and failing) to rein her back in... She's toootally not banned from a few taverns because of this 🙃

Talented in singing and playing many different instruments, but her main instrument of choice is the lyre. The lyre that she ventures everywhere with is from her childhood, a gift from someone near and dear to her heart. The "Spider's Lyre" as it's curiously called, in which her nimble fingers have nearly been sliced off countless times in her youth while practicing due to its dagger sharp strings, but she cherishes it like her own life

Although music is her passion--her blood--she indulges in other forms of creative art like writing and drawing when she has the time. She proudly showed off her skills this one instance when she doodled on Vlaakith's portrait in Crèche Y'llek. She believes she made it look so much better, but you could say that she and Lae'zel had...creative differences. But was it worth it even though she got chased around by Lae'zel afterwards as the gith maniacally swung her sword, Astarion giggling in the background while everyone else tried to stop Lae'zel? Oh, absolutely!

While she doesn't have much and has learned to make the most out of very little, she's quite vain and puts in the time and effort to take care of her appearance. As a bard, she lives to perform, but stands by the firm belief that her beauty needs to shine as brightly as her stage presence does lest she's hardly a bard at all

Easily makes friends almost everywhere she goes (even with more, um, questionable folks), but difficult for her to open up more and feel that she is genuinely close to someone (until she met the companions, that is)

Has a little habit where she fiddles with her eyebrow piercings whenever she's anxious or deep in thought

She's not a fan of dark spaces. She's not afraid of the dark, but being in any gloomy place for too long makes her feel uneasy and prone to panic attacks, desperate to feel the sun on her face again. One of the reasons why she's never visited the Underdark before, opting instead to learn about such dangerous beauty through books and other adventurers' experiences

When she's being idle...well, she's not very idle at all. She's always softly humming something to herself or slightly bouncing/dancing in place

Keeps the party entertained on their journey through singing and sharing tall tales. Well, "entertained" is a bit of a stretch, considering Lae'zel's always screaming at Mon'sun to shut up (spoiler alert: she won't) 🤐

Has nicknames for everyone in the party: Astarion is Astie (later on "my star" when romanced and Astarion calls her "my sun"), Gale is Big G, Lae'zel is Lae-Lae (*cough* more like Lae-Me-To-DEATH *cough*), Karlach is Spicy Mama, Shadowheart is Shady Girl, and Wyll is Bof (short for Blade of Frontiers). Can't say that everyone's too pleased with what they're so lovingly (and weirdly) bestowed with, but they just got used to it and allows only Mon'sun to refer to them as such

Can be deemed as the therapist of the group. While she absolutely has issues of her own (and plenty, might I add), she chooses instead to focus on everyone else and help them. She is super protective over them (although, one pale elf in particular has caught her favour out of all)

While she cares a lot about everyone in the party, she does consider Gale to be her bestfriend. They just get along really well together; Mon'sun proves to be an eager and like-minded listener/conversationalist to the wizard prodigy's ramblings while Gale is just thrilled that someone (and so pretty, too) is actually so kind and attentive to him as an individual, even helping him with his little--well, BIG--situation. Astarion, on the other hand... Well, let's just say that he's not as thrilled for Mon'sun to be so close to someone else, especially Gale of all weirdos 🙄

She's a pretty colourful person so it fits that her apparel is the same. She'll never be caught dead wearing something so woeful as plain ol' black or white. In fact, being so unbearably boring may just be the cause of her death!

Has complicated feelings about gods. They're interesting, for sure, and she respects anyone's beliefs in them though she wouldn't exactly put her faith in any of them let alone kneel (looking at you Vlaakith). She'd rather put her faith in herself--just like she always has--but that doesn't mean she won't take advantage of any "divine" blessings that may come her way. Such is the case when she obtained the Phalar Aluve sword from the Underdark, offering a tiny bit of her blood in exchange which pleased Eilistraee yet greatly pissed off Lolth (Mon'sun the chaos gremlin definitely got a kick out of that especially since she knows the big scary spider lady can't do anything to her...she thinks. She hopes)

While she certainly revels in having the upper hand in troublesome situations, she's not really a power-hungry person. Although, having power does have its perks. She won't lie, she has played around in her tadpole-infested mind the far-fetched but very possible idea of seizing the Absolute's followers under her own control (I mean, hey, if there's one thing she's learned during this unique little trip is that anything is possible). Not all cultists are actually evil; she likes to think that she could give them a fair shot at redemption, and it doesn't hurt that some of these cultists are powerful people that could potentially be used to "liberate the world of evil"... Blame (or rather thank) Astarion for unlocking (hehe subtle pun) this ambition of hers, though she doesn't think she could ever do this without Astarion ruling by her side--together

I totally get the "antagonist is your own ego" thing with Stardew. It can be frustrating trying to pace yourself when there's just so much to do, and knowing that it's impossible to do it all in one day. As far as villagers go - why am I suddenly picturing Bad Grief as, like, Redd from Animal Crossing, selling fake paintings? It must be the hair 😂 Yulia can help me plan out my farm because even when I was thriving in year 3, visually it was a bit of a mess, and I'm sure not laid out optimally.

Something clicked when you used the word "gentle" when describing how Yulia is with Artemy. You're so right. I think part of the reason I'm drawn to her and Victor is they both seem to have a gentleness to them, or if not that then a stillness, quietness, introspection. And sadness. Even Aglaya for all her strict imposing presence has a sadness to her.

It's why I originally started the "what the pathologic characters bring for your birthday" drabble series but my god it was the hardest writing exercise ever??? I was a shriveled up husk of a human afterwards and had to throw in the towel. I don't think I'll ever do the termites or humbles rip.

You did mention people that you liked my Hysteria fics and that made me very happy <3 It encouraged me to continue and write the last and third part, even compiled the drabbles and posted them on AO3 so they don't end up swallowed up and lost by tumblr's gutters.

I don't think of my replies or characters analysis as intellectual tbh, I'm just throwing up words and saying what's on mind. So I never expect anything high-brow or even well formmated in return. You're doing wonderful and your replies have been a real delight to recieve and read, I promise.

And yes, the gentleness! The three of them are aimlessly drifting in an ocean of melancholy. You get it! They seem cold and detached, but deep down, they're incredibly sensitive. They're calculated yet so full of emotions. They understand people, and they dig past the surface in other's until they fully comprehend their structure, evualting their core and understanding what gives them meaning. They're thoughtful in their own way that most people miss.

Take Victor, for example. He tends to be polite even while giving orders, using please and thank you even in the most miniscule of requests. The way he doesn't take fault to any of Artemy's mean comments or insults about him and the Kains, he doesn't take your hostility to heart and keeps talking and cooperating with you.

He's patient with Artemy, much like Yulia is gentle with you. He explains the structures and their purpose, he explains to you how time flows and works, he shares his plans for the future at the end of the game, condensing the complex visions into simple terms for you to understand, without being condcending and without being asked to.

Like when your teacher explains to a child why can birds fly, how planes work and why flight is such an achievement for humanity. He has the patience of a loving parent that wants to share his admiration for the innovations in the world with you. But he keeps himself grounded through all of it, doesn't let excitement nor passion steer him away from giving you his full attention when you interrupt with a question.

Even after that, he still extends an invitation for you to join him, to join them, the future awaiting just across the river, a world born anew. Saying, "Of course, you'll always be welcome there"—you—the one who destroyed the hopes and dreams of everything his family has ever amounted for. He still welcomes you with open arms, inviting the ripper along to the heavens.

Meanwhile, the player can almost make Aglaya tear in the literal first ingame meeting. Nothing major, just the hint of a few tears when you pick the sincere from the heart dialogue options the Haruspex is known for. It moves her, genuinely moves her.

And by that point, she still is apathetic towards Artemy and is burtal and efficient with her words. This isn't the soft loving Aglaya you get at the end of the game, this is the steel inquisitor Lilich you're being questioned by.

Yet she is almost moved to tears.

You know those types of people that bury themselves under 13 layers of irony to be able to even function? The people who can't self-actualize or speak sincerely in fear of being perceived as cringe? the people who refuse to take anything to heart no matter how raw or moving? Because it's safer to not let the world affect you, it's safer to shut out both the good and the bad. It's familiar.

Aglaya is on the far extreme opposite end of that. She looks for the meaning of life in everything, be it under a rock or over a bridge. She dissects everyone's words, she tests how much their weight would truly hold up against feathers in the brutal scales of her mind.

She isn't afraid to feel emotions. She isn't afraid to face herself and her vulnerability as a human being. To be raw and open, completely unphased by the spears piercing into her soft bare flesh because she knows pain is part of being human. That pain is the price of growing up. Part of the process of being a full-fledged being with a soul.

She is not controlled by her ego nor pride. She knows that she knows nothing which is the greatest strength she holds over all of the factions in pathologic, which is the sole reason she is able to outsmart and manipulation the bachelor himself in his own game of chess.

She understands pain, she understands happiness and she understands what it's like to not have a purpose. To struggle to survive when your life is at the mercy of the whims of children.

Aglaya is probably the most emotional character in all of Pathologic for how many feelings she contains and doesn't shy away from. The rollercoaster these 5 days have been to her since she arrived in town. Dealing with anger and revenge with Daniil, discovering trust, love, and a new meaning for life with Artemy, learning about powers beyond anyone's control with Clara.

It is ironic how she appears as the most cold and apathetic to onlookers based on their personal opinions of her.

Yet not even a single crack forms in her sanity. She accepts the theory of the town being alive almost immediately.

She thinks. Truly uses both her brain & heart, and doesn't make her decisions based on personal biases and gut feelings.

Cogito ergo eum

Therefore, she is.

On a last note, Sticky's animal being a kitten genuinely made my week so much better. I kept thinking about that fact whenever I was in a bad mood and how fitting it is since he clings after Artemy left and right, following him and fearing abandonment just because his dad took too long in the shower once ouch my heart. It's so fitting!!!

A cub and a kitten!!! what more could you ask for??
