Touch Telepathy Soulmates AU

ok so the pitch is exactly what it says on the tin, a soulmates AU where soulmates have a telepathic link--which is activated when they first make skin to skin contact

the totality of my notes are as follows:

Steve is broken up over Nancy, has had meaningless sex with a ton of girls hoping to hear a voice in his head that isn’t his, stopped believing it was going to happen for him

Eddie wears gloves and long sleeves, all the time. He says it’s because he doesn’t believe a cosmic mistake should dictate his life and he doesn’t think some rando should get to rifle through his thoughts. It’s actually because he’s terrified of finding a soulmate who doesn’t like what they see in his head.

and like. gotta be a tropey soulmates AU so you just know they would pine like goddamn crazy after each other before they find out they're a match etc etc. canon events would probably mostly happen, picture steve trying to respect eddie's desire to avoid skin contact while also checking his pulse and making sure he's breathing and carrying him to the trailer BUT THEN~

can't decide if he would succeed at not touching eddie during the whole thing for maximum UST (unresolved soulmate tension) or if he would have to or accidentally touch him

and then eddie spends his hospital stay dreaming steve's guilt and anxiety at having crossed his Big Boundary HMM that's very good actually because steve meanwhile could just be receiving garbled coma-dream signals that he interprets as like. stressy depressy post-traumatic intrusive thoughts or some such thing

but on the other hand maximum UST version is also good bc they could properly mutually pine in the aftermath, and eddie could learn from dustin how careful steve was to not touch him and to preserve the Big Boundary and that could start eddie down the path of kinda wishing steve had touched him just so he could rest easy knowing this is just a crush it's just a crush steve harrington's not his soulmate not eddie munson's soulmate there's no way
