Happy Halloween, Ben! I hope you are continuing to feel better! Do you expect any trick-or-treaters tonight? (Is that a thing in the Netherlands?) I hope you find lots of good candy at the grocery store! I myself have two bags of dark chocolate Kit Kats to hand out to all the kids I foresee coming by (*wink wink*) Your pumpkin is adorable, by the way. I wanted to do some cool faces with mine, but my friends that normally host a Halloween party decided to just hold their Costume and Pumpkin Decorating Contests online, and the theme was “2020”. I thought “well, I’ll just get two pumpkins, and use one for the contest and one for whatever." Then one of them started molding, which seemed very on brand for this year, so I just went with it, and ended up with meme pumpkins. I included a color pic, so you can see just how gross the one got. Fun fact: the top of it is held on by being skewered with a dowel rod and set in place along the rim. In case you were curious (you probably weren’t, but oh well), trying to scoop out a moldy pumpkin is indeed deeply gross. Imagine a physical manifestation of the sensation most people seem to feel when you say the word "moist”. Just…so gross and squishy… *shudders in remembrance*
My costume attempt turned out okay given that I managed to pull it together entirely out of things I already had. In case you don’t recognize the symbol, I was one of the more recent comic versions of Black Canary (this one at least had proper shorts). Let me tell you, trying to free hand draw that goddamn bird outline with no printer or projector was an adventure. I had to do it backwards, essentially, too, because I realized that pencil marks are extremely difficult to erase off of craft foam.
And I just wanted to show off that I’m the kind of classy bitch who drinks wine out of a can (also, it’s an awesome can.) To be fair, it was actually surprisingly decent (I say, as though I know shit about wine). I sent a picture to a friend, and she started teasing me, and I said “it’s a rainbow can, how was I supposed to pass it up?”, and she was like “you know what, fair, I would have done the same thing." I also got some kind of sparkling red wine to drink tonight for proper spooky effect. The cashier commented on it being good as I was checking out, so here’s hoping.
I know what you mean about endless plot ideas, too. I started a couple of smaller pieces to work on when my longer WIP gets overwhelming, got on a roll, and have almost finished one. I got super excited when I finally got to a few of the lines that were among the first I thought of for it months ago, then realized "fuck, now I have to write the smut, don’t I?" So, hopefully the wine will offer some inspiration there, too. XD
By the way, I totally wasn’t kidding about the Chris Evans/Henry Cavill rom com idea. I totally went and found it in my FB messages and screen-shot it so that I can now inflict share it. Buckle up, here we go: So, Chris’s character’s great-aunt (played by Angela Landsbury) talks him into coming to stay with her along the English coast after his divorce, and help her run her mystery book shop. Only, less than a week in, she runs off to go on vacation with her boy toy (Christopher Walken). By this point, he’s already ended up in an unexpected rivalry with the co-owner of the comic shop next door (Henry), who’s been trying to get the great-aunt to sell him part of the bookstore’s storage space to build a table-top gaming area. The woman (Natalie Dormer) who runs the little bakery/tea shop attached to the other side of the bookstore has a running bet with the other co-owner of the comic shop (John Boyega) on how long it will take for the two men to realize just what type of tension there actually is between them. Chris could wear hipster glasses, and skinny jeans, and cozy sweaters/cardigans, that he could remove at strategic moments to reveal the ridiculousness that is his arms and chest. Henry could wear tight jeans and fitted nerdy t-shirts and SET THE CURLS FREE GODDAMMIT. And of course at least one encounter would have to happen at a dog park, because both their RL dogs are absolutely adorable and deserve a moment in the spotlight. Please, Netflix, I’m begging you. Make it happen. (If you curious, this particular moment of inspiration struck during a discussion over "if Evans is America’s Ass, is Cavill Britain’s?" My friends are also classy like me. XD )
Well, on that note, I’m gonna shut up for a while, and go wash the color out of my hair, because I think it’s been on at least half an hour longer than it should be, technically. Enjoy your sugary findings, and I hope they and your coffee give plenty of energy for writing your various projects! :D I hope you continue to feel better, and that things keep looking up! Take care! *Properly socially distanced and seasonally spoopy hugs to you both!*
Okay 1: omg I need that gay wine. (Rainbow wine, whatever.) That is amazing, I love it. And I totally get why you needed that. I don’t have any wine for myself tonight. But I have some Budweiser (Or well “Bud” as it is called here), cans of coke and Jack Daniels, so I should be good.
And I think your jacket turned out pretty well! Looks awesome. (Though I get what you mean about craftfoam. It is a bitch to work with when you only have pencils and no stencils.)
Halloween isn’t much of a thing here I’m afraid, aside from some witches who celebrate samhain and the uprising of general pop culture there aren’t many people who really celebrate Halloween like in the US. So no, I don’t expect any trick or treaters tonight (also because COVID has us on a 8 pm curfew).
I think the Netherlands celebrates Saint Martin far more which Wikipedia explains pretty well as: Saint Martin's day, also known as the Funeral of Saint Martin, Martinstag or Martinmas, as well as Old Halloween and Old Hallowmas Eve is the Funeral day of Saint Martin of Tours (else Martin le Miséricordieux) and is celebrated on 11 November each year.
The day is celebrated on the evening of 11 November (the day Saint Martin was buried) in the Netherlands, where he is known as Sint-Maarten. As soon it gets dark, children up to the age of 11 or 12 (primary school age) go door to door with hand-crafted lanterns made of hollowed-out sugar beet or, more recently, paper, singing songs such as "Sinte Sinte Maarten", to receive candy or fruit in return. In the past, poor people would visit farms on the 11th of November to get food for the winter. In the 1600s, the city of Amsterdam held boat races on the lake IJ. 400 to 500 light craft, both rowing boats and sailboats, took part with a vast crowd on the banks.
But other than that we don’t really have a holiday where children go door to door to ask for candy.
It’s getting more popular now in recent years to do so on Halloween, as well as Halloween parties, but it’s not very widespread.
XD
Yeah I was really excited to write some fanfic for Love and Monsters and then today I started doubting that. And now I’m leaning towards writing more Petopher fic where Chris gets turned?
I blame @for-the-love-of-wolves for that one because I read their fic and now I’m like: that’s a good idea. I want to write that too. And now I can’t shake it.
I should really finish things but urgh... part of me just wants to write more teen wolf fanfic.
I’m really curious about your wip though, I hope that when you’re ready to share it, I get to read it too. ^^
Honestly, Netflix needs to make this idea happen. I insists. I wonder if my friend who works their customer service can pitch ideas but I don’t have much hope for that. Would be pretty awesome though to see this come alive because it’s GOOD! Holy moly I want that to happen now XD. Brittain’s ass is it, UK Vs US ass fight!
Wait is that too gay?
Ah who cares XD
I’m still snivelling with a cold but it’s only stuff coming out of my nose, for the most part, I’m doing pretty good and can focus somewhat on things again. And no real pain aside from the general ones.
So I’m gonna wish you Happy Halloween, have a good night and lots of socially distanced hugs from me and Mo.

Slight of Hand*Sirius Black
A/N: In this, I'm making Peter a pureblood since it isn't specified what he is.

Young&Old!Sirius X Muggleborn!Reader
Wow. Was the first word that came out of my mouth when I saw Hogwarts. Some other muggle-borns and I had all been shocked in first year. It was sort of coincidental I was mostly friends with Muggle-borns. We had common ground, not understanding the wizarding world, and were able to talk about normal muggle things. My friend group was mainly a mix of half-bloods and Muggle-borns with a couple purebloods. It's not that we didn't like purebloods, though some didn't like us, its that we grew up in different worlds. I tried to explain a tv to a pureblood once. It was a long conversation. But that was mainly the first year. My second year I understood more about the wizarding world and making pureblood friends was easier. Though I did miss hanging out with only half-bloods and Muggle-borns since I wouldn't need to explain seemingly normal things. By 4th year I was used to it. Around known purebloods, I would talk about Quidditch, the weird sisters, and other wizardry things. Something I missed about the muggle world was magic. Not wizarding magic but slight of hand. My brother had got me a kids magic set during summer as a gag gift. As I was packing my trunk I had seen the set and decided to take it because why not? I was bored in my dorm so I decided to pull it out. 1 of my roommates was a pureblood and got so confused by it. They demanded I show them everything and tell them how. My fellow muggle-born roommates and I smirked and walked downstairs, into the common room. "Do it one more time. Please," My roommate, Alicia, begged. "Fine," I sighed, pulling my deck from my pocket, "Pick a card," Over the week word spread of the magic tricks, I was doing. Muggleborns and some half-bloods were cracking up over the purebloods reaction. They seemed to think I knew some advanced magic or was a mind reader or something. It was starting to become out of hand. "Guys I've got to go, I have homework," I told the group of pureblood 1st years following me. "One more trick," "Yeah, cmon," "How are you doing that?" I groan, looking to my friends for help. They shrug and walk away with smirks on their faces. "Can you please just fu-" "That's no way to talk to firsties," I hear a teasing voice behind me. I turn to see the marauders had just walked up "We need to set a good example," Sirius teased, "Get lost," He barked. They glared at him but scurried off. I rolled my eyes "I could've handled that," James and Sirius shared a look, "Hey Remus," "Hi," James looked in between us "You know each other?" I shrug "We talk about Doctor Who sometimes," "Doctor what?" Sirius asked. I shook my head "Doesn't matter. I gotta go," "We'll walk you," Sirius said, speeding up so he was walking next to me, "We have a proposition for you," James joined him on my other side. I glance over my shoulder to Remus who was uncomfortably following behind us with Peter, "What?" I asked slowly. "Well, we were thinking we could take the pressure off you. Since your now a star at Hogwarts and all," James shrugged. Sirius nodded "So if you wanted we could learn your tricks and fend off the firsties for you," I stopped walking and crossed my arms. "You just want to know how to do it?" They looked at each other before breaking "What spell are you using?!" "How did you learn wordless and wandless magic?" "Are the cards rigged?" "Tell us!" I laughed and shook my head "A magician never reveals their secrets," They looked like they were going to explode. "How long have they been like this?" I ask Remus. "Since they saw it in the great hall. It wasn't that bad till last night when I pulled a coin from behind Peter's ear," He chuckled. "I didn't know my ears even had coins in them," Peter said, still amazed. Remus and I had to laugh, "I'm not gonna tell you," "Cmon," "Please," "I'll pay you," James words caught my ears. Sure I wasn't exactly poor but I was muggle born so we weren't swimming in Galleons and Sickles. "How much?" He looked slightly shocked at my response but quickly recovered, "5 Galleons," "Pass," "10 Galleons," "I think you can do better," "50 Galleons!" "De-" "No," Remus butted in. "He is not giving you 50 for a trick you learned when you were like what? 10?" I pouted. "Not fair," "What if we help you make 50 Galleons?" Sirius words caught my ears.
It had been a Thursday that I had bumped into the marauders and by Friday everything was set. The marauders arranged mini magic shows for purebloods to attend. I didn't assume many people would show and pay. I mean cmon, you're in Hogwarts. Who cares about a card trick? Turns out a lot of people. Plus since, not all, but a lot, of Purebloods, were somewhat wealthy we could raise prices. James, Sirius, and Peter spent most of Thursday night organizing shows and selling tickets, according to Remus. "Ready for your first show?" Remus asked as we walked to the black lake where the show was being held. It was over there so teachers couldn't tell us off for 'exploiting children'. "I guess, "I shrug "It's not like it'll be busy," My words faded off as I saw the crowd. about 20 kids stood near a tree at the black lake waiting for me. "Your kidding," "Nope," Remus shook his head "Purebloods are crazy," "How much are they charging?" I asked, still in disbelief. "5 sickles for a standard ticket, 9 for a one on one trick after the show," My mouth almost dropped "I know its ridiculous." "Theirs our star," Sirius grinned, his arms opening to display me to the students. "Ready for our first show?" "You're overcharging them, severely," I deadpanned. James held his hands up in defense "Hey, they don't mind. Someone offered 10 the first time," Over the weekend we did 8 shows. 2 on Friday, 3 on Saturday, and 3 on Sunday. Each show had 20 students at it, roughly, and of the 20 5 paid the 9 sickles for a one on one magic trick. We ended up making 56 Galleons and 8 Sickles but it was all in Sickles. I stared at the pile of silver on the bed. The Marauders told me to come to their dorms for my money and the pile gleamed in the sunlight. I picked up one of the sickles, turning it in my fingers. The pile was mostly Sickles with a couple Galleons and some Knuts. "Holy Moly," I murmured. "So will you show us?" James asked. His voice sounded distant as I stared at the pile. "You okay?" He asked, snapping his fingers. I snapped out my daze "Yeah um sure," After about half an hour I had shown them all the basic card tricks. "So theirs no magic?" James asked, still confused. "Yup, its called slight of hand." He took the cards out my hand, expecting them "And the cards don't have magic either," "This still doesn't make sense," Sirius muttered, grabbing the cards from James "How!?" It took almost 2 hours to teach them all the tricks. James did the trick on Sirius, and after 4 tries, got it right. "You did it, well done," I patted his shoulder. "So you were basically just lying the whole time?" Sirius asked. "Basically," I shrugged. Surprisingly after they learned the tricks I didn't leave. I stayed the whole night, talking and laughing with them. The next day we ate breakfast together and it became a thing. I still hung out with my regular friends but by 6th year most of my time was spent with the marauders. We all became close, me even becoming an animagus with them, and I was kind of like a fifth Marauder. In 7th year something I never thought would happen happened. Sirius kissed me. It was Christmas night. The rest of the marauders had lost a bet meaning they were dancing outside in the snow in only a tank and boxer shorts while Sirius and I watched from the windows. Sirius bumped my shoulder, distracting me from my crazy friends "I learned a new magic trick, wanna see?" "Sure," I shrugged. "You have to close your eyes," I squinted at him, he rolled his eyes "Trust me. What could I possibly do?" I glanced at the marauders dancing outside, hollering complaints at us, "Please?" I couldn't say no to his puppy dog eyes. I sighed and closed my eyes, crossing my arms. I heard a little bit of shuffling but I was too distracted by the cold that was creeping into Hogwarts. Hot breath fanned my face and before I knew it he was kissing me. He pulled away, only a little, and I opened my eyes. My arms dropped from around me and went around his neck, pulling him back down. The marauder's hollers of complaints drowned out. The cold didn't even bother me. As we pulled away, slightly dizzy from the rush, I murmured "Best magic trick ever." I was wrong. After the war my friends, family even, had been ripped away. James had been killed, Peter as well, Remus had basically isolated himself, and Sirius was locked up. He didn't do it. I repeated that phrase every day, every night, and I didn't forget. Not one day. Then he escaped. I had tried settling down, living a normal life, and he came back. I had been working in Ollivanders and living in a small apartment for a while. But after the order was reinformed I started living at 13 Grimald Place, in Sirius old room. It wasn't deliberate at first. The first night I had investigated the room to find it the same as it had been left. I'd fell asleep on an armchair I had sat in and from that night I slept in his old bed. But then he came back. I had been podding around the house, not really doing much when I heard a crack. Drawing my wand I walked to where I thought the noise was. I opened the door to the parlor to see Sirius, Dumbledore, and Remus standing in the parlor. I could've cried. I did. Things never really settle down. The order was always holding meetings, doing missions, and people were nearly always in the house. Not that it mattered. For the first day in a while, it was just us in the house. And buckbeak but he kept in his room. Sirius and I were lounging in the living room, not a care in the world. "Remember those magic tricks you used to do?" I nodded. "I made my own up. Wanna see?" I looked at him dubiously but nodded either way. He reached behind my ear and I knew what he was going to do. I looked at his hand, expecting a coin, but instead, my hand flew to my mouth, "I'm turning you into my fiancee, tada," He held the ring out to me with a soft smile "I planned on this before I got arrested. Sorry, it took 12 years and I'm not great with words but...will you marry me?" "Yes, yes you stupid idiot!" I laughed. He chuckled and put the ring on my finger. New favorite magic trick.
