you continue recounting the details of work and its latest drama, something satoru is usually very attentive to. in his line of work, drama comes in a much different form, which is why you assume that yours is a distraction from his. yet his lack of response begins to raise warning flags. his typically energetic and reassuring demeanor is replaced by eerie silence. questions about his behavior start to filter and infiltrate your scrambling thoughts.

it was easy to assume that it was your fault. maybe he was tired and didn't want to hear you ramble? perhaps he doesn't want to be rude and tell you to shut up? what if you're annoying or boring him? even as he's assured you hundreds of times before how he loves to hear you talk and share your life with him, the insecure part of your mind starts to turn on you with bared teeth and fangs.

as you finish your sentence, a beat of silence passes, and you wait with bated breath for a huff of laughter that never comes. he doesn't respond, heavy breathing filtering through your phone's speakers so quietly you have to strain your ears to hear it. you furrow your eyebrows, biting your nails as the silence stretches on.

"toru?" you softly ask, tilting your phone screen to get a better angle of the dark room staring back at you through the screen. the hotel room provided little in the way of light.

a shaky hum vibrates your phone ever so slightly, and you catch a glimpse of his spikes of white hair in the darkness. Japanese QL Corner

The fun continues with three currently airing gems, a new show entering the fray, and an animated story so good I am reading a manga to keep up with it. Four of these are on Gaga and one is coming to us via fan sub. Jump on in to the weekly watch, we're having so much fun and not feeling at all overwhelmed by the deluge of amazing content! *chuckles nervously*

Takara's Treasure

I continue to love this quiet little show. This week I desperately wanted someone, anyone, to answer Taishin's earnest questions. He is doing his best to figure this out but no one is helping him! I like that despite wanting him to figure out his feelings for himself, Takara continues to reach out to Taishin to let him know his attention is welcome. This week we also met Emiri, an instant fav who taught Taishin all about stanning. I appreciate that this show joined other recent jbls in making a clear distinction between being a stan and being in love. Real love is not fanaticism, and the former is what Takara seems to want from Taishin--once he's ready.

I Hear the Sunspot

Ugh this show just gets me right in the heart. As I hoped, we got to sit with Taichi this episode as he worked through his confusion and worry about Kohei. It makes sense for Kohei to back off in the wake of his ignored confession, and it also makes sense that Taichi didn't hear him (metaphorically). And even after having it repeated in a way he can't misunderstand, he still doesn't know what to do with it. He just knows he likes Kohei and wants to be around him, and he seems okay with just leaving it at that for now. I loved, too, that we got to spend time with Kohei as he's coping with his worsening condition and get to know his mother, who is a delightful person who loves Taichi just as much as her son does. I'm so glad we are getting to see this story told properly in full in such a great adaptation.

Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko

Finally, the truth!!! Ayaka is a menace and Hiroko is fighting for her life. Like hanging out with a niece, my ass! Most of the office misinterpreting Ayaka's behavior as crushing on Yuya instead of Hiroko continues to be hilarious, as are all Hiroko's friends trying to push her to cross the line. I was sad to learn that Risa has her own unrequited love going on; I want all the girls to end this story happily! I did love their conversation about identity, and that the show gave some space for Ayaka to consider whether lesbian is the right label for her. Checking out the lesbian bar together was a great way to test things out, and I was dying at the other girls hitting on Ayaka. Can't wait to see what happens next now that Hiroko has no more denial to cling to.

Mr. Mitsuya's Planned Feeding

Shoutout to @isaksbestpillow for picking this show up, because it’s an instant fav! Ishida and Mitsuya are fantastic characters, and man are they GAY. This is a food drama and a story of queer men of different generations seeing something unexpected in each other and forming a surprising bond. I was pleasantly surprised by how immediately the attraction and sexual tension arrived in this story, and I want to know so much more about Mitsuya and why he seems to be holding a desperate sadness alongside all his wisdom about life. Very excited to see these two nourish each other. You can find Sirii’s subs here.

Twilight Out of Focus

I don't watch anime (do not @ me, many have tried), but @bengiyo liked the story for this one enough that he told me I can’t skip it, so I am reading the manga along with the show. And I gotta say, I loved this first story with Mao and Hisashi (this is a multi couple series so not sure how the next one will go). Ben is on vacay so I'm tagging @twig-tea to talk about the episode that aired this week.

We have a problem: why am I watching this sex scene again?

Ah. Sex scenes. You wild wild beast. The crossroad of many discourses and analyses and opinions and essays and now, here I am, a mere casual ww2 rpf fan, throwing my own hat to the ring. In this blog post I'm going to talk once more about sex scenes -- two in particular -- and why the eff one of them matters, making the ww2 rpf more compelling and the other did not.

Disclaimer: Whether or not sex scenes are needed in media in general or the right way to implement them across the vast spectrum of art is not part of this discussion. Please keep in mind I'm trying to complain about the writing decision in the small scope of the HBO War shows.

I have discussed the problem with the Crosby/Sandra plot line in a previous analysis here. But I think the problem with it requires another (and maybe a third) write-up. Here, I want to talk about why the tiny sex scene between Crosby and Sandra in episode 7 is a waste of screen time.

So, we have the sex scene in MOTA episode 7. It is somewhat explicit and it was clear it is consensual and that the people who are fucking is very into it. In comparison to other sex scenes in HBO War fandom, it doesn't exactly stands out to me with just the imagery of the act (of course this is a personal opinion, whether or not I find a sex scene hot or bad or corny or lovely or [insert adjective here] is not universal).

However, my problem with this sex scene between Crosby and Sandra is that it doesn't matter to the story.

After getting it on with Sandra, and then after she left him, Crosby never talked about this affair in anyway. Not over the narration, expressing some kind of sentiment over it, not with Rosie or any other guy, so me, the audience, have no idea what he think about it or how he might be affected about it. We didn't know what Sandra think or feel about it either because her scenes are about her spy works and that's it.

You might say: well he doesn't have to tell us how he feel if the show can demonstrate to us the same thing.

Yet, MOTA never did that. Furthermore, the show never portray the sex between them matters to the characters beyond getting their rocks off. And then, the sex doesn't matter to the theme of the episode nor the overall theme of the show either. It's just something that happened.

(Sad to say that maybe this sub-plot distracts me from the rest of episode 7 and 8)

This might be consider 'realistic'. In real life, people can have sex just for the joy of it. Which is true, but in a drama mini-series, the choices to include or exclude details must take in consideration whether what is on screen is valuable to the story the show is trying to tell. Why are they including this sex scene instead of the hundred other real life details that don't make the cut? We don't have a training montage for the pilots, we never learn how Quinn and Bailey get back to base from Germany, we never have the D-Day invasion sequence,...

Let's have a comparison to another sex scene.

In The Pacific episode 3, Sidney Phillips met Gwen in Melbourne and started a romance with her that ended in them having sex before he got shipped back to Pavuvu. Personally for me, it wasn't an awesome sex scene either. Both Gwen and Sidney were awkward, they kissed and the entire thing ended with him kissing her bare shoulder.

But what truly matter happened latter. When Eugene arrived in Pavuvu and reunited with Sidney, he asked Sidney about what combat was like. And to answer this, Sidney mentioned him sleeping with Gwen not to brag about his sexual conquest but to make a comparison with the brutal battles he survived.

Despite the fact that the two of them grew up together, in just a small amount of times, Sidney have been through things and done things Eugene hadn't. All of that (both combat and his brief romance with Gwen) had changed Sidney to the point that Eugene could not longer connect with him. There was now a chasm between them. Eugene looked at his friend and tried to understand him but couldn't. There were things that must be experienced to be understood.

And then, Eugene himself went through life-changing events. The war changed him so much that when he returned to Mobile, he once again couldn't connect with Sidney

Or his brother (who was in the Army and was in the euro theatre) -- another person who had gone through the war himself.

Both Sidney and Eugene's older brother had returned home before him while Eugene had just came back, fresh off the board with his mental wounds, and it showed the chasm had formed between him and these two men who supposed to shared this brutal experience with Eugene.

In fact his brother specifically mentioned how Eugene is still a virgin, which highlight further how he was 'missing out' on that particular experience that both these men have.

And this all started when we were still following H company and witnessed Sidney and Gwen having sex. That small thing compounded over time. It snowballed into all these differences and distance that Sidney would have with Eugene, and then Eugene would be having against his own hometown, his brother, his family, and his best friend. It served to show how war had did its number on Eugene in many ways.

The sex scene between Sidney and Gwen mattered to the story, it served a narrative purpose eventually.

Crosby and Sandra's sex scene did not. And to include it meant there would be less screen time for any other story line, leaving not just the sub-plot of Crosby's arc weaker, but the other ones as well. Overall, this creative decision left MOTA a weaker show in term of its writing.

Smells Like Green Spirit ep6

Yumeno called me out so fucking bad this episode. When he said he obviously wasn't expecting Mishima to be a woman, but was still startled at seeing his dick, I related too fucking hard. "My dad told me to cut the grass. I have to go home," when you're on your knees for someone is HILARIOUS 😭There are people like that, right? It's semi-common for people to forget that guys they like have penises. Idk, I do that sometimes. There's a lot of specific experiences that are in this show that make me feel like the writers are in my freaking brain. I, too, have seen a dick and suddenly wanted to go home.

Yumeno wasn't even as bad as Mishima, who fully fucking vomited right in front of Fujii when she took off her clothes, but anyways, Kirino crying when Yumeno told him what happened was so cute. He was empathizing with Mishima while also crying over his own friendship with Yumeno. If Yumeno is straight, doesn't that mean he and Kirino can't be friends? Those two are soooo cute. I'm sure they'll work it out. Chaotic pookies.

The way Mishima wasn't even really that into Yumeno and wasn't enthusiastic at all about where Yumeno was taking things at the river, but still got sad about being rejected was so real. Crying over a boy who wanted you first is SO REAL!! Pobrecito. I'm so interested to see where their dynamic goes from here.

I don't have Drama Otaku so I'm watching the episodes with really bad auto generated, auto translated subs and filling in the gaps with my own extremely limited understanding of Japanese. I'm freaking FEENING for a more accurate translation of what the neighborhood ladies were saying about Mishima and Yumeno. Let me into their tea omfg. Also, it took me WAY too long to realize that Yumeno's dad is supposed to be a white American😭😭 For a hot minute I was like why the fuck does he talk like that, and then when I noticed the blue contacts everything clicked 💀 His outfit is fucking killing me

just thought to myself "oh, my chinese proficiency doesn't seem to have progressed much over the last few months, that's sad. i'm stagnating :(((". but then i remembered that roughly two years ago when i started taking chinese classes again, i didn't know much more than the MOST basic sentences in mandarin, and i tossed myself into the deep end by learning it because for the last ten years i'd only spoken english and some cantonese. i couldn't read beyond very basic characters, either. and now? if i want to have a chill night i can turn on a chinese variety show or poke around bilibili without need for english subtitles. a little while ago i was watching a modern mandarin drama with only chinese subtitles (because the english subs are... broken). this summer i watched most of a tvb drama going only off of traditional chinese subtitles and my cantonese listening proficiency. i'm going to go back and finish it eventually, because next semester i'm finally picking up cantonese classes again. so, no matter what i believe of myself these days: i think that 17 year old me those few years back, who went through the most abrupt realization about how much of their heritage language they'd forgotten or lost over time, would be proud of me now. at least i've gotten this far

Cdramas:

The ingenious one (36/36): this drama has blown me away so far with its incredibly nuanced and sharp writing, its love stories between all the major couples and the absolutely magnificent cinematography. FINISHED verdict: HIGHLIGHT drama of the year for me so far. Smart, engaging, complicated, peak romance of all sorts, just what the doctor ordered tbh (overly long review can be found in my tags). 9.5

Chang Feng Du (40/40): I did not realise how close to the end I was. This drama is very pleasant and I adore our mains, but sadly except for a few highlights (the early beating gjs put on himself, the destruction of the gu family and the aftermath, the battle for wangdu) the writing hasn’t been able to keep the narrative tension up which is sad. FINSHED verdict: Very pretty and engaging in the beginning kinda loses me in the second half and then fizzles out emotionally, doesn't crash and burn but doesn't exactly stick the landing either 6.5

Gone with the rain (10/30): adore the gremlin4gremlin couple and from the spoilers I’ve seen not gonna adore much else

An ancient love song (1/16): incredible first episode and with only 30 min per ep and 16 eps in total this is gonna be a short fun ride I hope ( with lots of angst and tears naturally).

Here we meet again (18/32): started this for Wu Qian playing to type and Zhang BinBin being pretty but oh boy I’m struggling I just don’t care about the conflicts and in s surprising twist, I like the flashbacks to high school much much more, which is very funny if you think about the fact that the reason I started liking wu qian in the first place was because of her show stealing performance in the flashbacks of My Sunshine. I’ve been promised kisses in the near future so I’m gonna hold out till then but this might end up another drop.

Hidden Love (5/25): this one promises to be v sweet and kinda short but oh my god I have so many dramas on my plate rn so this might end up the first drop.

Till the end of the moon (22/40): I think I watched ep 1 when it started but then I got busy and now I am just staring at gifsets and crying, it’s definitely on the list to watch tho.

Heroes (6?/38): I started this a while ago, was really into it and then got busy… dammit. I might just rewatch the beginning so I can remember most of the set up for sure but man the visuals on this were so good, aaaa liu yuning.

Blood of youth (0/40): the last 12 months really have spoiled us with interesting looking wuxia dramas and this one is definitely on the list, I have been gifbaited once again.

Ray of light (0/30): usually hs dramas are something I avoid, but because I will not be watching the longest promise, for reasons, and bc @storge is a gifmaking temptress, this has made it on the list.

The legend of anle (0/39): Lmao trust YOUKU to screw up the release with bad subs only 1 ep even for vips and no released schedule… but at least I can put this on the backburner for now. Lmao should have known not to trust a youku dilreba drama, the tl has soundingly spoken and I'm gonna avoid this.

Ancient Detective (0/24): I was recced this by a friend when I mentioned my love for wuxia dramas, and since it’s almost shockingly short for a cdrama it’s on the list. EDIT: this got @purplehanfus seal of approval so it is def going up the list and since it's complete I'll probably at least watch it before the ongoing ones.

Butterflied love (0/22): see I barely made this post and already forgot about the screencap that got me started on writing it, the screencapa look great, but the drama is on mango, so who knows when I’ll truly be able to watch this

When I fly towards you (0/24): Well, I wasn't interested bc modern youth drama, but then I heard it described as "updated It Started with a Kiss" and... I'm weak? ISWAK was pretty much my crack gateway into asian dramas and while IDK if i could rewatch it today, something in me will always love this kind of story. Maybe it's like a quick palate cleanser in between since apparently eps are only about 30 mins.

Mysterious Lotus Casebook(0/40): CHENG YIIIII, in a possibly bromantic role? Or maybe het romance, I'll take it all. Plus I've already seen he's bleeding copious amounts as per his contract, so that's most of the checklist done.

Lost You Forever (0/??): because nature abhors a vacuum I apparently must have?? A minimum to watch pile and this actually and genuinely looks good??? A Yang Zi drama in 2023??? The mind boggles. Anyway I've been reading the recaps with delight, and am def going to watch this when part two airs in a couple of months but until then I have a thankful reprieve...

Kdramas:

See you in my 19th life (4/12): since kdramas release so slowly this is on the backburner but it does have some great gifsets that keep enticing meee

King the land (2/16): I am watching this for junho but it is kinda hard bc I have so much else on my plate and while I don’t mind a classic romcom type story I feel I need a bit more of an emotional hook

Story of the nine-tailed 1938 (0/16): so so many gorgeous and hilarious gifsets so little time. I loved season one so so much and the fact that this focuses on the brotherly relationship?? Extremely smart writing decisions were made!

The red sleeve (0/16): I blame @dangermousie for this she keeps reblogging angsts junho on my dash and I am but god’s weakest warrior.

My dearest (2/20): I checked this out because it's got pretty much everything going for it from a production standpoint and boy did the first two eps deliver. This has got 2 seasons though so I'll probably wait until the second season is airing, since it won't be too long till season 2 or so the internet tells me.

See, this is why I love them. Shaotian is loud and passionate, Wenzhou is quiet and rational. They balance each other perfectly and they love each other so much

I mean i sit listening through 2+ hours of league of legends matches each day especially with playoffs so close so it's pretty fun, especially with the eng commentators! Plus watching T1 stomp their competitors with the whole team just cooking, especially Keria and his support picks and Oner with his Lee Sin and Faker with his Azir is just 😍😍 and SO much fun to watch!

Black Wedding

I am taking a break from C-dramas. TTEOTM was such a massive disaster for me that I now find myself reacting with visceral revulsion to seeing the actors from that show even in other dramas (most notably Bai Lu, whose tag and any mentions of her have now been indefinitely blocked on my blog). This is decidedly not healthy, so some distance is required until I regain some balance and perspective. A show being objectively bad should not have affected me to this extent, I should have just stopped watching, but I feel like I was already sliding into a bad place mentally when this dropped and was maybe subconsciously counting on LYX in a costume drama to provide me with the dopamine I needed to crawl out of this state. Well, that clearly did not happen, the show brought me no joy, just more disappointment and frustration, so I slid even further, and here we are. It's been weeks since I've been able to watch anything at all.

So, for something completely different, I am turning to dramas closer to home. I'm normally allergic to ex-Yu productions, everything about them bothers me, from the themes and narrative choices to the actors and their acting styles. I tried to think of a single ex-Yu drama I like and the only one I can think of is a comedy (?) from the 1980s. However, Serbia has had some interesting releases in the last few years that look like they might cater to my interests, so now is as good a time as ever to give them a try.

Starting with the Black Wedding. I am going in unspoiled, hoping for the full effect. Let's see if I'll enjoy it or if it will make me even angrier than TTEOTM.

Let me preface this by saying that I am still very much exploring Anne, so all of this should be considered at least somewhat mutable unless otherwise stated.

Well I can't imagine her vanilla, if that's what you mean. There's a sad combination of a dearth of experience and really shitty partners within that dearth that make the extent of kinds weirdly hard for me to parse through, but I've figured out a handful already. Anne is a sub, though she also service tops as needed (? - unclear). She really isn't into anything too painful--rough past experience, consider that mostly immutable--but I think she could try most things for most partners. Including injuring them to some slight degree, if that's what they're into and they ease her into, IZZY. Group sex is considered kinky and Anne's polyamorous and sometimes uses sex as an expression of social bonding. I can't say if the entire lifestyle is for her, but a lot of the trappings of BDSM--bondage, d/s themes, safe words > no, etc.--are very appealing to Anne. Fun bonus, as long as you don't almost die doing it, she's a great Battle Partner and will get frisky watching you kick ass. And on the other hand, Anne wants to like sex. Before James and even early with him there were silly things almost like fantasies she wanted--the zing of a kiss before or after battle, while adrenaline is high; sex where they might get caught, laughing and shushing each other; a whole, wakeful night to themselves with only the stars to report back what happened; a cliche she'd now deny with her dying breath, but just being together with their feet in the wake and seemingly no one else on earth--but between him and Jack, Anne hasn't really let herself explore what there is to be wanted out of life. Because that means admitting that the freedom she found isn't freedom at all.

She would tell you she's a switch if she'd tell you she's anything, and she'd be lying to your face to protect her own ego. Mostly. Anne is a sub but there have been moments when it's occurred to me that in a...if not healthier than at least less-abusive?...relationship than she's ever been in before might open her up more to explorations. Like sorry to swerve hard to kink out of nowhere, right?, but there was an instance of knife-play between two people Anne has an interest in (...it's complicated), and despite almost having an identity crisis after realizing she really isn't a dom/top, she very quickly realized that with some patient teaching/adjustment time from/with a partner, she would absolutely do that. Especially, I think, in a situation with multiple partners, she could figure out how to dom/top in a switchy, fluid way. Fanfiction complaint.

It's been ages -- okay, about a year -- since I read widely in a big m/m fandom, and I had forgotten how annoying it is to try to find fic that isn't weird as hell about (1) female characters, (2) sex roles.

Like, okay. If it's an m/m fic, I expect it to focus on that m/m ship and those male characters. I also know that a lot of people in fandom kink on exaggerating masc/fem, top/bottom, dom/sub dynamics more than I do, and essentializing those roles can make things hotter and more appealing to them. (And tbh I like the masc/fem stuff, because feminine men are hot.)

It's just really irritating to find myself repeatedly skimming over paragraphs about the evil repulsive female love rival who is also too soft and boring and deluded about her attractiveness. I enjoy a villainous ex as much as anyone who loves drama, possibly more even, but not like that.

Or perhaps the female characters are not villainized, but are entirely props and objects: the supportive friend, the tragic-fated angel who never caused trouble in her life, the pathetic middle-aged sad sack, the stupid slutty hot-girl, the vampire's willing and disposable victim. The enslaved woman, murdered in a coup, who appears at the beginning of Captive Prince for us to be told that she's so obedient and docile that she would have let her master kill her instead if he asked. (I searched her name in the text, and it doesn't come up again in any of the books. I couldn't keep reading after that. It signaled an approach to female characters that I just can't vibe with, even if it fits with in-universe attitudes and the main characters' perspectives.) It annoys me when male characters take on the too-supportive best friend role in romances too, but jesus, lmao.

(The way I prefer female characters to be handled in m/m is like any male characters who aren't part of the main romance: a variety of roles; goals and actions that don't revolve around the protagonists, even if they're tiny and offscreen; and no apologizing, pedestalizing, or convenient-conduit-for-the-real-feelings-between-the-men-izing. I know the last thing is a kink and a classic trope, but I hate it.)

And then having to back-click, if I haven't already, because, you know -- I think feminizing male characters is sexy and cool, and I actually like it when giant grunting masculine dom tops ravage tiny weeping feminine sub bottoms! It's a classic for a reason! But if you throw in an unironic, unexamined and unqualified, seemingly narratively endorsed, "everyone is naturally a top/dom or a bottom/sub or masc/fem, the people around them Can Tell, and they'll never be sexually or romantically satisfied unless they pair up with a Complementary Opposite," then I instantly lose interest. It just hooks too deeply into my gender and sexuality issues in a way that isn't fun or hot for me.

Episode 10 - Recap

♠ MAIN CHARACTERS: Aono the ghost (ML) Yuri the airhead (FL) Fuju the victim (ML's best friend) Mio the horror-enthusiast (FL's best friend)

♠ EP10: Yuri keeps running into a loop of halls (seems like a hallucinations) while following her ghost. Then a phone call from Mio, makes her snap back to reality. Mio tells her that she called because she was worried when the school chat was exploding about what happened in her classroom. Mio also tells her that she is happy for Yuri because she got to see Aono again. Their conversation turns to speaker mode, when Fuju appears and he tells them about "the REAL conversation between him and Aono, before he disappeared."

Aono tells his friend that he wants to go to a FAR AWAY place and needs him to lie to Yuri and tell her he passed on. & that he tried to pass on but couldn't figure out how. He tried but couldn't and that was after Yuri got a nosebleed and fainted.

Fuju remembers the kiss and SNAPS & we find out why he was severely traumatized by it.

F: "what the hell were you doing getting aroused in someone else's body?!" A: "it was in the moment... sorry." F: "in the moment?" A: "I thought you wouldn't be aware of it." F: "you mean it's okay if I didn't know about it? you've got to be kidding! I remember all of it! your disgusting behavior." A: "disgusting!" F: "it was disgusting! it was like an old man who is kissing a girl he was paying to date! don't put your left hand under her chest! I had a boob between the L shape of my thumb and pointer finger! that dirty way of touching without thinking and making excuses later, shows how small minded your personality is! on top of that, while touching her with your left hand, your right hand...."

Aono stops him from explaining further by apologizing on his knees. F: "I'll never forgive you. Idiot."

WELL. Aono goes back to explaining that his "far away" is not really far because he seems to be linked with Yuri. He can't move further than the town's station. He simply plans to stay away from her and be out of her sight.

[Back to the present] Yuri asks Fuju to take her to meet Aono in his hiding place (a mountain behind the school). Mio accompanies them by staying on the phone. On the way, Fuju tells Yuri that he promised to check on him once a week by using the coin trick.

Along the way, Fuju jumps over a tree-trunk on their path and then extends his hand to help Yuri cross over. SUDDENLY, strong wind blows and Fuju covers his face, then opens his eyes to find himself standing alone.

[alternative universe with weird colors] Yuri gets swept away but she is still on the phone with Mio. She describes her surroundings and the flowers that bloomed around her, which weren't there a minute ago. They try turning the call to video call but it doesn't work. Mio gets a call from Fuju through an app on her computer. But when Mio puts both her friends on speaker mode, Fuju can't hear Yuri's voice.

Mio thinks that Yuri got pulled into the spirits world.

Demonic-voice: "Yuri-chaaan~ Yuri-chaaaN~" Yuri: "Aono is calling." Mio: "he can't do anything without your permission. it's all up to you." Yuri: "He looked sad. he can't help but be here alone. I never considered his feelings. I want to meet him." Mio: "be careful."

Yuri continues walking towards the voice to find blank-faced-Aono.

A: "I waited." M: "did you find him?" A: "hang up the phone." Y: "I won't." A: "why won't you listen. hang up. hang up. hang up." Y: "I won't!"

Half of Aono's face turns demonic again and he says while tears fall from his eyes: "I'm cold" Yuri touches his bloody-sided-face.

A: "kiss me." Y: "deep down I thought that if I sacrificed myself to you, you'd be happy. but Aono wouldn't want that."

Yuri removes her hand and says: "that's why I came to have you return it to me. please return the kiss I gave you. one kiss from when we were in front of Mio's house. another one from when we were in the gym. I can't give you anything. so give it back."

A: "don't wanna!" Y: "give me my hair color back!" A: "no way!" Y: "give everything I gave you back to me!"

He complies anyways... He kisses her right feet, left hand and then her lips (just like she kissed him before).

Aono's face returns to normal and he smiles to her.

A: "Yuri." Y: "Aono, welcome back." A: "Sorry for lying." Y: "I'm the one who made you lie. I won't try to die anymore. Even if you pass on, no matter how lonely I am, or how painful it is, I won't die. I'll grow old and live until the day I die."

Then she hugs him.

Fuju finds her, smiles and says: "Aono." Then Yuri runs to Fuju's side and the three walk together into the future or whatever.

[at Mio's house] Y: "I can't offer him anything. that's the fundamental rule. each permission worked as an offering that made Aono's power grow stronger. therefore, by returning what I gave him, his powers got weakened." F: "he didn't turn your hair back to black. but let's head home." Y: "thank you both for everything."

[in class] Aono the ghost is still hovering around Yuri. He will eventually find a way to pass on but for now, he is with her. He helped her make 2 supportive friends and that is enough for her.

[on the way home] A: "I'm glad I met you." Y: "I love you so much."

Overall Thoughts

I wish I was in more of a romcom mood because this was really funny, more so than expected but I didn't really care about the romantic aspect and the last ep was so fast and squished. It was good but not great.

A step up from Kissable Lips. I wonder which production company made this, it's like 30 min episodes, so it's 4 hours, one of the longer kBLs. Oh it's Poongduck, the kinda meh ending makes sense when we think about that but I think they have a higher budget than their other BLs.

Rant 1 - Goblin (K-drama)

WARNING: Spoilers for entire show

Ok so I noticed that I haven't been posting a lot since I read the Inheritance games, that's why I have decided to just post rants about stuff I've read/watched in the past. In this post, I’ll be talking about a Korean show named Guardian: The lonely and great god (otherwise known as Goblin)

Short summary before rant: The show basically follows a Goblin, who has been cursed to live forever, because of the people he killed (he was a soldier) with a sword in his chest. He can finally rest in peace when he finds his bride, who is the only person who can pull the sword out of his chest. There are sub-plots (which are IMPORTANT btw), around the rest of the characters in the picture, which ultimately link back to the Goblin's past.

To put it frankly....I love it.

Why?

Firstly, the START. Until like ep. 5 or afterwards, the show is filled with fluff, comedy, bromance, and pretty much everything one needs to want to keep watching. If that isn't smart af, idk what is. Like, imagine, a show that's so light-hearted and just stress-relieving to watch.

And then....

hell pays a visit. Things get complicated, and it just rips your heart open. First, Eun Tak runs away, then she finally comes, but now, the goblin has to get his sword pulled out, otherwise, Eun Tak will be in danger. Then she DOES pull out the sword and dies. Tell me that doesn't hurt. THEN, he comes back, but guess fucking what? No one remembers him, other than the grim reaper. So then he jogs Eun Tak's memory with a trip to Canada (and beef, cause she freaking loves it), THEN, SUNNY DIES. AND THEN EUN TAK DIES. But she gets reborn and she and goblin are together again.

ALSO, more sad moments:

- Grim reaper making Sunny forget him (but she remembers anyway)

- Goblin and Grim Reaper having a serious fight because they have history together (no, as in a VERY long time ago history, not, we've met before a few years back shit)

- EUN TAK TELLING GOBLIN IT'S OKAY WHEN SHE GOES TO HER NEXT LIFE

- GOBLIN DYING

- EUN TAK'S MOTHER DYING

- DEOK HWA'S GRANDFATHER DYING

- SUNNY DYING

Yeah...lots of death....remember when I said it was light-hearted at the start? That's probably because all this shit happens afterwards.

My favourite things:

- The dynamics. Euk Tak and Goblin? 👌. Goblin and Grim Reaper? 👌. Eun Tak and Grim Reaper? 👌. Grim Reaper and Sunny? 👌. Sunny and Eun Tak? 👌. Duk Hwa, Goblin and Grim Reaper? 👌. Eun Tak and Deok Hwa? 👌. You get the point. The characters all go SO WELL together. Like, I love the writers for doing that.

- Plot. Can we appreciate just how smart that plot is? Like, he wants to die. He finds her. They fall in love. He doesn't want to die. She will die if he doesn't die. He dies. She forgets him. He comes back. She dies. She gets reborn and remembers him. Tell me that isn't an amazing journey. And the side plots!! Like, Grim Reaper and Sunny! They are so cute! Honestly, if there was drama on them when Grim Reaper was king, I'd be so invested.

- The annoying ones. You know, that advisor guy and Eun Tak's aunt. They did SUCH A GOOD JOB writing them. It was so easy to despise them, and honestly, that's hard to do.

- Music. Have you listened to the OST?? Because it is so damn good! It doesn't have a single bad song.

Good OSTs so are hard to find and this one just tops them all. Anyway, this was my first Kdrama, so maybe I'm a bit biased but curse that, because this is good! At least compared to what I've watched so far. Imma just add some scenes from the show, because it is too good.

So yeah....that's my rant for today...I might do it again Monday or smth.

So my mom has been into K-Dramas lately and she wants to expand into J-Dramas. Since you are the only one i follow that really goes into liveblogging dramas, you were my go to for asking, which ones would you recommend?

My mom likes romance, but she says that after a while she gets bored. She’s been into mystery/suspense/thriller lately and i noticed you liveblogged a number of those, like that one cop drama with either a dead or delinquent partner. Also that medical on with Takeru Satoh and Woz.

some good mystery and/or crime-solving type shows:

cold case: shinjitsu no tobira - these are remakes of the US show of the same name about a team focused on often decades old unsolved crimes, but the jp version is so much better in terms of acting & atmosphere. has a very cool female lead played by yoshida yo. s1 is best of the 3 imo.

dele (2018) - about a private business whose purpose is to delete sensitive information for clients after their deaths. this is also a very atmospheric and moody one and some of the stories are more sad and thoughtful than mysterious.

dorokei (2018) - doesn't even Remotely count as suspense or a thriller, it's mostly quite silly, but i always have to shill for it anyway. goofy idiot cop gets assigned to the theft division which is staffed by a bunch of other weirdos and at the same time also happens to "befriend" a most wanted phantom thief at a bar.

MIU404 (2020) - classic buddy cop setup of differing personalities except with less focus on comedy than that genre usually has. not that it isn't funny at all but it's equally focused on character drama, they both have tragic backstories, and the cases they solve can get pretty emotional. subs are kinda bad tho sadly.

MOZU (2014) - 3 cops investigate a bombing that killed the first MC's wife and uncover a much deeper political conspiracy from there. only really recommendable for people who are drawn to the visuals of noir and neo-noir and of stylized violence. but if you are, then. have i got a show for you.

ouroboros (2015) - about two guys raised in an orphanage together one who's grown up to be a cop and one who's now a yakuza boss, but who are still in contact and are in fact allied in a shared revenge quest. very dramatic.

rinsho hanzai gakusha himura hideo no suiri (2016) - a modern sherlock holmes adaptation where the sherlock is like, maybe a little too into the concept of murders, but also has a really adorable marriage relationship with his version of watson, a mystery writer who's overconfident about his ability to understand mysteries.

shinhannin flag (2021) - normal cute dad's wife and kids go abruptly missing one day putting him at the center of this increasingly wild investigation into what happened to them. more on the "like a game of clue" side of mystery shows but it can get more intense at times.

subete ga f ni naru (2014) - smart but kind of morose professor and his more upbeat student fall into this web of crime constructed by a campy evil genius woman (and also do some more episodic investigations along the way). has romance hints.

unnatural (2018) - focuses on forensic investigation, lotta sciencing about dead bodies, which i'm not sure would be of interest? really good, though. has great female characters.
