Hi, sorry for suggesting solutions when you haven’t asked but apartments with coin laundries are such a goddamn pain in the ass so I’m sure you’re not the only one with this problem and I had never heard of an electric spin dryer until I got into yarn dyeing so I think it’s worth just letting people know they exist.
I don’t know if you’ve ever looked into getting an electric spin dryer but I love mine. I bought it for yarn dyeing and my hand knits but it’s actually just made all handwashing much easier and faster since it cuts the dry time so much and there’s far less wrangling of dripping wet things.
It essentially mimics the spin cycle of a washing machine only better, it spins much faster and takes five minutes at the very must most. I rarely run mine for more than two minutes. When I bought mine it was about $150 which isn’t cheap but is much cheaper than an actual washer or dryer, and it’s about the size of a small upright trash can so it takes up pretty minimal space.
I was going to say I thought it was too small to do sheets but I just shoved my queen size sheets in mine no problem! One at a time of course but it might make handwashing sheets at least slightly easier. Things tend to come out of the spin dryer just vaguely damp so you at least wouldn’t need to worry about dripping. It might make hanging them to dry a bit easier.
This is the model I have and I’ve been really happy with it but I’ve also never used anything else so YMMV.
can we talk about the obnoxious aspects of coin-op apartment laundry?
having cash on you is increasingly less common (while cash is NOT dead, nor should it be, for a variety of reasons). and for me personally, getting quarters is a huge pain
my building's laundry is $2/wash and $2/dry. normally I don't need the driers because I can just hang my clothing on a folding rack in my room to dry, but for bigger things like sheets, it's necessary. I work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday most weeks, and my days off are sometimes taken up by errands that don't bring me near a full bank branch- as opposed to just a freestanding ATM, which don't dispense coins -until after their open hours
I wouldn't mind as much if we had a card reader, or even a change machine in the building. but getting together $4 in quarters every time I need to wash my sheets is very difficult- hell, even getting $2 is a hassle at times
sometimes I do hand-laundry in the sink because it's just not worth the trouble. again, though...can't do that for sheets. well, you CAN, but it's a logistical nightmare to dry them without a drier or clothesline access
