Last night I went back and reread the last couple chapters of Fever Dream, cause I need to work on that again (I didn’t realize it’d been two years still 😭) and the last chapter especially had gotten all this feedback about the way I’d written it that it had me wondering if I needed to rewrite it. I’m not, but last night my sleep-deprived brain finally had that OH I SEE moment that people had the problem with.

It’s thrown under a cut cause it might be a bit of a spoiler, but I’m also wordy and didn’t want to post stretch too bad. Basically if you don’t want details - I figured out the issue and it’s most of the reason why my motivation for this fic dropped so hard. I wanted to do more with the sequel now that I have a feel for this universe and it felt like people wanted “all smut all the time”.

The part where Inuyasha tells Kagome that he’s not comfortable giving affection, and she asks if he’d mind if Human and Youkai were to...pick up the slack, so to speak...and he says yes it’d bother him. This is what had people going -

- and it never clicked that didn’t come off right, but I promise I have good reason for it. Inuyasha can’t shake the feeling that if he’s not careful, Kagome could have more than just her exams to worry about. He didn’t exactly do things “in order” so the human side of him wants to try to do right for all the human customs. Kagome wants to finish high school with her friends? He wants her to be able to do that. Just as the Youkai and Human versions do.

Those two, however, have blind faith in Kagome’s medicine, and there’s this prompt from InuKag week last year that shows why this is a bad idea. They’re young. They’re stupid. They’re itching for friction. Shit is gonna happen.

So when he tells Kagome that yes it’d bother him, he’s not telling her no, but it’s a warning to them to remember that Kagome’s dreams come first. He doesn’t want to deny her anything, but he’s worried.
