Happy new year! I continue to love yuri!! (and also... sonic the hedgehog... which has yuri in it now so really lucked out there)

2024 saw the end of one of my fav new(er) manga to come out recently, Monthly in the Garden with My Landlord! It really crept up on me for how much I've ended up liking it but dang, what a good ride! Sad to see it go but I'll defo keep up with the author's future works!

I've been doing a lot of catch up this year as there are plenty of longer running series' I just hadn't dug into, such as How Do We Relationship? Delicious in Dungeon and This Monster Wants to Eat Me.

Delicious in Dungeon is now so easily in my top 5 favorite manga of all time. Love the group dynamic, love the funniest morally grey elf Marcille Donato, love that its doesn't feel like it drags or goes too quick within its 14 volumes, just love it!! Also wild to see so much Farcille merch in the artist alley this year, it felt like every other table had something and I can't really think of another f/f pairing that's hit that level within the con circuit merch scene. It was a lovely to see!

On the more textual yuri side of thing: How Do We Relationship? Oh geez, of man, and what god damn read! It took me a few volumes to really get into it but the reveal that it's not “story about what happens after you start dating someone” but is actually “a story about what happens after you breakup with someone” is devastatingly good!

Rip to all the college yuri I'll read going forward because every one of them is going to be compared to HDWR, its set the new standard for me haha. It was so good I had to go and buy the whole thing in print as soon as I finished.

Speaking of which, this year I went back to buying manga in print and I'm really glad I committed to that! At first it was more a reaction to the waves of delisting we've seen but It was a lot of fun hunting down deals to populate the Yuri Tower. This corner of my room now legit makes me smile when I look at it, even if I'm going to have to work out how to fit more books on there soon.

On the video game side of things I played an old SNES RPG called Eternal Filiana and was sooo charmed by it. The game is based on a 80s light novel that is very much influenced by Lady Oscar's popularity at the time, having its own protag also be a blonde haired women who was raised as a man for plot reasons.

The part that was most interesting to me though was that the André to Filena's Oscar ended up being a woman she marries within the first 30 mins of the game. Filena and Lila can be a bit goofy in the games (b-b-but we're both women??) but they still have some legit sweet moments and having watched the OVA first, which is tries to take itself more seriously, I now have a real fondness for the pair. Here's to the first married yuri couple!

And finally... Sonic. It's been another good year for Sonic! The comics continue to be a fun read and I really liked Sonic X Shadow Generations despite being apathetic toward Shadow lol. He was good in it though and all his levels ripped! Great game! Third film also fun! Very excited by the characters who show up in the stinger :) I also got into making custom figure with my brother this year so that's been a fun hobby for us to do together.

and that's it!! I mean there were other things I played and read, places I went to but whatever!! the post is long enough!!

For 2025 I'm looking forward to the anime of This Monster Want To Eat Me and suuuuper looking forward to The Moon on a Rainy Night! Oh this a welcomed one!

I adore Raph. He's one of my favorite character types - the gruff, protector who inside has this heart of gold, he just has to work through some stuff.

Rise Raph, will be first to go in this department, what a himbo, what a gem, what a sweetie. He's still got some of his rage, but he's more so the protector of the family. I love details like the bandage on his chest, that smile. His interactions with his brothers and April are so funny and wholesome. (The Lair Games and The Clothes Don't Make the Turtle are my favorite episodes for some choice brotherly moments)

Then we get to 2003 Raph, who is the one I first saw, the one who made me adore the character as a whole. This is the one I related to the most, because of the mix of his heartfelt moments, mixed with sometimes being too much.

Shoutouts to Lone Raph and Cub, for being the best Raphael episode. This boy just wants to save his loved ones and his brothers and father, bring out the best in him. Meet Casey Jones is another great Raph episode, because we see how Raph can turn OUT if he's not careful (and showing his merciful side, which I feel like is a character trait, that doesn't get talked about enough?)

Like, this boy could've laid Casey out, truly could've beat the snot outta him and left him hanging, but he DIDNT'.

I also, really appreciate in Hunted the way that Raph specifically wanted to *wrestle* with Leatherhead. There was no fear of his strength or his temper, just full out respect. I really enjoyed the storylines they gave Raph, throughout 03, because he was trying to be better from what he was - even though, some of it was still his pissing contest with Leo, but ohhh so good... and Same as It Never Was Raph?

Oh man, this totally gave me a type when I was 11... Gruff, armored, badass motorcycle, I was fresh off my Sonic phase (yes I was a Shadow stan, let's just get that outta the way now)

My Linkin Park listening, Shadow the Hedgehog loving self, was fresh off of getting caught up on 03 when this dropped.

That movie had no right being that fun. I know it's up in the air whether or not it's ACTUALLY 03 canon but it hurts no one to think it is so I consider this Raph to just be the 19 year old ver of 03 Raph. Lot of time to grow and adjust. The Nightwatcher look for him, was SO good and that scene where he's fighting that demon? LOVED IT. Still die laughing to this day.

I need to read the 07 comics, because I know there's a Nightwatcher origin comic.

The fight between this Raph and Leo too... this was one where, Raph had some good points. Leo had issues to work through but then he comes back and just expects everyone to be ready to go back to how it was... and Raph's been keeping things in check, while Don and Mikey tried to keep them financially afloat, (frick I should've included 07 Donnie too, but again *points to "I see them as the same just older"*) and Raph had to keep the city SAFE.

Some of the BEST ficts I ever read, involved that fight in the rain. Mmm that was good HOT SOUP

But then... my favorite Raphael of all time...

IDW Raphael is everything, I love about him and more. He's this protector, he's still got his temper, but his bonds with his family, with Casey, with Alopex...

It's just all coming together so nicely and I ADORE moments like these, where we see him calm, where we see his SMILE. WHere everything in his world, for just ONE MOMENT is all right. Where he's okay.

I love that and I adore Raph/Alopex, I love it more than RaphXMona. (I ALSO LOVE THIS ONE. IT'S GOOD BUT RAPHLOPEX IS MY OTP)

And I do not have an opinion yet on Mutant Mayhem Raph YET, but we will get there.

The twins!

The fact I picked them on a whim (so the whole team would be complete) and they ended up sticking as muses. Despite not appearing much in the comic; I love the dynamic they bring to the team and how they won't take any shit regardless of the person, even if the person is a former prince.

I also love how they use their appearances as an advantage as well since it allow them to discover that Leeta was being cheated on (since the cheater went and dated Lyco) as well confuse Naugus who had one of the twin pin down after catching her but the other appear behind which baffled him.

Pomegranate

Pomegranate is one my fav character that I picked up. (which was a whim + I wanted a villain muse.)

At first, I thought she was a complete bitch who only cared about Dark Enchantress and her vision, however when I got to learn more about her... She's still a bitch but she has certain qualities which doesn't make her 1000% bitch and the fandom really do mishandle her character terribly (which they also do with a few other characters but that's another topic) since she does have some redeeming quality like actually caring for Poison Mushroom Cookie.

As well, that some of the things she does; it was a reaction instead of her starting it in the first place. The biggest example is the scene where she used a spell on Dark Choco as people treated that scene with her doing it for the lols when in reality; Dark Choco started the fight by

Not doing his job properly and screwing Pomegranate's spell up.

Telling her magic is worthless, and she's nothing with it

Threatening to kill her

Like it was wrong for her to use the spell, but she had her reasons which people seems to ignore and just go with "Pomegranate is just being a little bitch and Dark Choco is a 'uwu sweet' character' which is why I don't really trust the fandom.

Either way, I love her alot and can't wait to see more of her in the story.

Mira Nova

I love Mira~ Despite not seeing all the episodes of BLOSC; she's one of the character I fell in love first. As well as, I do like how her power works since I think it's an interesting take on it.

A moment that still stick in my mind is where NOS bite into her suit to use as an assassin + hostage, but she just peace out of it and keep fighting without her suit.

Hyzenthlay

I like Hyzenthlay and how she wanted to improve the others rabbits' condition even if it meant spying.... And how it was when she gave up in the end and willing to be executed... At least she doesn't actually die and was able to get away as well as finally getting the freedom that she and the other rabbits wanted so much.

Of course, I'm wondering how the other adaption handle her character since I have only seen the Netflix version one.

Shard

My god do I love Shard and how his death destroy me..... He's such a really fun character to read, and I just love his ego as well as his backstory.

The fact he originally was a Metal Sonic and grew into his own identity is just *chef's kiss* as I do think it also helps we actually see his story play out. Although I am sad that his story got cut short with Archive having to reset the timeline, thus wiping him out of existence, since I would love to see more of him.

Slinger

It's really hard to talk about Slinger since most of the things I have for him are purely headcanons and what I think he would be like.

Regardless, I like his appearance and the small details provided to him (such as the fact he juggles his wispons which make his teammate nervous) especially the fact his past is well-hidden to a point that even Mimic doesn't know it.

I'm hoping that the way I'm playing him is close to his actual personality with the context provided.

Well if I had to narrow it down it'd be Blaze and Eggman. While I never played Sonic Rush when I was younger, I did see Blaze in a ton of other Sonic games growing up such as Black Knight and the spin offs. I did all the research I could on her otherwise, watching playthroughs and reading wikis, but it mostly boiled down to her design and attitude. Her fit is top notch and I'm just a sucker for a defrosting ice queen that grows into someone much more confident.

Eggman is like, peak video game villain. Sonic as a franchise tends to dramatically differ in tone and story depending on the medium, and this results in very different takes on characters as a result. (I think Innuendo Studios on Youtube has a video on this) With Sonic himself it's real easy for writers to just fall into the mascot with attitude pit and forget that what made him stand out at the time was he was a hero first and snarky kid second; it made him look a whole lot more lively of a character than the likes of Mario. That played into his quick-paced in-your-face gameplay, how the themes of freedom and expression reflect the emphasis on momentum based physics.

Meanwhile it's kinda hard to fuck up a mad scientist. Eggman's deal as a massive dick is a whole lot easier to understand, and his role in the plot of the games as main antagonist translates real easily into more story focused mediums. Classic Eggman represents everything wrong with authority for the young Sonic to take down, SATAM Robotnik is much more menacing with a focus on stealing free to create slaves, then the super ambitious Adventure games give us an even campier Eggman to match. In recent issues of the IDW comic I am loving how terrifying he is in his imposing figure and cruelty. And that's not even touching Frontiers' dramatic take because that's spoiler territory lol. Even in the dumpster fire that is The Adventures of Sonic Eggman is still the biggest meme generator of the whole cast. No matter the continuity he's just a consistently fun character.

Otherwise my other favorites depend on the day, like Kirby I pretty much look at every character and I just :) Special shout outs to Amy and Sage though; Amy for being a childhood fav and Sage for dragging me back into Sonic lol

So after reading "Let Go," I gotta say for a self-proclaimed non-writer you made a story that is on the higher tier of short story I've read. And this is as someone who has a writing major and so read a lot of stories to get that lol.

Honestly I was just on a roll the last few days. Usually I have to pull words out of my mouth like teeth, but this time I knew exactly how to convey what I had in mind. It was a fun experience! Especially changing Sonic's behavior so that he'd be more in line to how I imagine he'd behave in the games, kindhearted but still no-nonsense.

I hate character bashing. Unless you're deliberately writing a parody (and even then some jokes stop being funny, I wouldn't like Yandere Amy even in a parody), I believe in respecting the canon source. Even canon you don't like :P I fixed what for me were the biggest mistakes of #50 (Sonic's whole behavior, Surge's confused traumadump that also makes Sonic's blasé attitude look more callous, Sonic wasting time asking for a truce and not immediately trying to save Surge when she's about to fall), but I re-read many issues to stay as consistent as possible, especially the Imposter Syndrome arc.

I don't like Surge's surface personality, and in IS she made me roll my eyes a lot - she isn't that likeable, and not even in a love-to-hate way. She's a braggart and a bully, and that's really it. I'm also pretty disturbed by how Kit is treated by her, but that's another topic.

However, the fact that her annoying personality is fake? And that it makes sense for it to be this way, because Starline sure doesn't hold Sonic in high regard? That is a clever way to explain it. I was also taken by how self-aware Surge is throughout, she does understand that her hatred comes from nowhere, but still, when she has the confirmation that her thoughts are not her own? ... she doubles down. Because you try to break out of 232 sessions of brainwashing. So you have a rational yet irrational character, and that's what makes her intriguing for me.

Plus, y'know, tying her whole self esteem around Sonic and beating him can't be healthy. I was disappointed that her short appearance in #51 had her bounce back so quickly from failing the one thing she has going for in her life now (although it gave us Surge looking totally lovestruck and that's funny) - I think she should have had at least one temper tantrum :P Also, I've complained a lot about #50 lol, but I really like when Surge comes to the conclusion that nobody cared about her, because she either volunteered to be a guinea pig for Starline, or nobody looked for her if she was kidnapped. Add to this that her "little brother" was brainwashed into not having an identity outside of her, so his unconditional support is fake too, and I'm pretty sure her self esteem is in shatters by now. Or should be. We'll see. I still have my headcanon that her insistence in the first half of IS to be constantly validated for her feats comes from a deep insecurity.

I think that, if we could get a glimpse in Surge's head in the comic, she'd be even more interesting. And if she had one redeeming quality, like for example a violently protective affection towards Kit, I'd genuinely like her :)

Can you give me just an overview of a sonic au? I wanna ask specific questions!!!!!!

Well there's an overview of my fav sonic au in the [#yearwounds au] tag on my blog but it's so absurdly fucking long it'd feel cruel to make you read it which is a predicament when that's the one I want to talk abt

Basicallythe yearwounds au, named after yearwounds by rook&nomie which is my favorite song ever, is basically like one of those edgy 2010s reboots of kids cartoons. Those were always like a guilty pleasure of mine. Dumb as shit and devaluing the original cartoon but still really fun to me. This ties in lore from the games, comics, and movies.

Sonic has no known parents and has been an orphan as long as he can remember. Sonic's home island was seized by the military (G.U.N) with Eggman's tech shortly after his birth due to them discovering a "dangerous, possibly extraterrestrial or engineered being" with high traces of unnatural energy, and Sonic's escape from the island is what led him to first discover the Chaos Emeralds which, despite his irreverence, he tries to avoid messing with much, though he always seems drawn to them. Sonic is disillusioned from years of experience as a "hero", and really just does what he wants, though that's usually what G.U.N is too idiotic and war-driven to do.

He met Tails when Tails was four, and being heavily bullied verbally and physically by the other inhabitants of his island as well as abandoned by his parents. Tails was extremely smart, but super anxious about people due to his bullying. However, being only four, he couldn't fare on his own, so Sonic- 11 ar the time and not fit to care for a toddler- offered that Tails could stay with him and he'd protect him as long as he needed it, unofficially adopting Tails as his own brother. Their relationship and Tails's personality is basically the same as canon, with aspects from the AoStH cartoon which is the cutest thing.

Knuckles met the other two at the age of 12, after twelve years of guarding the Master Emerald and upholding his dead clan's legacy all alone. Everything he knows how to do was self-taught. It was by a miracle that he survived long enough to fend for himself, and he is extremely dedicated. His personality is quite like that in the movies (loyal, naive, dedicated, hardworking and serious) as opposed to modern media like Sonic Boom (stupid). Knuckles's English and Spanish are both imperfect, but he's conversational in both.

Amy joined the team at the age of 8, after being rescued by Sonic. Amy had spent her whole life being abandoned, excluded and questioned, dumped at an orphanage by her father after her mother died, where she spent six years before being adopted, but was constantly outcasted due to her unclear species making her an undesirable adoptee, even though she did find a family that took her in anyway, but Sonic was the first person to care about her no matter what she was, and she fell in love instantly. She would later discover this to not actually be the romantic love she took it for at first, but a deeper emotional attachment to the few to unconditionally accept her. Wanting to make herself worthwhile, she was trained by Knuckles in combat and made herself a powerful ally.

Shadow became an... ally, shall we say, at sixteen, four years after the main four met. His backstory is basically the same aside from him being a porcupine and not a hedgehog due to it fitting his personality more. If you're not familiar with Shadow's backstory, tldr: he was a government experiment commissioned by G.U.N and created by Eggman's grandfather in the 40s/50s to cure his granddaughter Maria's terminal illness, and he lived on the research facility in space where he was created with them, being best friends with Maria, until G.U.N shut down the project, massacred everyone in the facility including Maria, an innocent and unrelated terminally ill 12 year old girl, executed Eggman's grandfather and put Shadow in cryostasis for 50 years, which is why Shadow is a like, dark and vengeful villain for most of SA2 until he sacrificed himself to stop the destruction of the Earth in Maria's name, and barely survived. In canon it was Eggman who found him and saved him but in my AU it was his teammate Rouge who went looking for him after SA2. It's sort of like Fuyuhiko's near death in SDR2.

Those are the big characters, and the au itself follows the Sonic Adventure duology, and a heavily rewritten Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Forces, and, like, a few other games.

Sonadow is like half canon because they're in love they're just super emotionally troubled and not really in the place to have an actual relationship, plus the events of Sonic Forces, Sonic being captured and tortured for 6 months, his repression of his trauma responses, etc. throws a huge wrench in their relationship, though they never stop loving each other, it's a super complicated relationship lmao

After the fiasco with Classic Amy Rose (See story for further details!), Boom!Sonic began to wonder about this… secret code he doesn’t recognize in himself. Mostly because it seems odd to him, a code he was born with, but that the other Sonics had gotten through Japanese Sonic regaining his original data…

He rubbed his chest, sitting on top of his favorite employee’s cubicle in one of the many office levels of SEGA.

He stared off into space, but clearly was distraught and troubled with a comical look of annoyance on his face. He couldn’t quite understand which part of him was different from the other Sonics… and that difference seemed to frustrate him.

The spotlight was taken from him after Classic Amy appeared, so of course, he wasn’t quite sure what this ‘orange’ and ‘new’ code really was, only that it was causing a lot of ruckus among the other characters…

Especially for Genesis… (*Note: Nickname of Classic Sonic.)

With Modern American and Japanese Sonic handling whatever it was that made Classic Amy such a big deal, Boom!Sonic laid back and tried to relax.

He didn’t want to think about it, but…

The way Classic Sonic reacted to seeing her… the way he reacted when coming in contact with her… what made her so important or special that the code activated like that? And how was he programmed or born with it already!?

He groaned, rubbing his hands with powerful scratches to ruff up his quills on his head and kick his legs up, coming down to flop on either side of the cubicle and look utterly miserable.

The employee looked up with a raised eyebrow, smiling. “Something wrong, Sonic?”

“Eh, it’s nothing.” Sonic lied, liking the employee for his sense of humor, not so much for his sense of unyielding curiosity…

“Ohh..?” The Employee leaned back from his hunched stance at the computer, rocking his chair slightly as he moved back to get a better view of Sonic. “Pining for anyone..?”

Boom!Sonic stuck out his tongue. “That’s for my Gramps to worry about.” (*Note: I hope these don’t bother you, but for those who don’t know, there are Sonics all over the world, wherever a SEGA hub is. Japanese Sonic is the original Sonic and has special powers because of that. The other Sonics are thereby known affectionately as the ‘Sons’ of the Original Sonic. Sonic Boom is a creation derived from the American branch of SEGA, making Boom!Sonic the first Grandchild to Japanese Sonic -not including anything but the games- and making American Sonic the first Sonic to have a ‘kid’ so to speak.)

“Haha! You’re the one born with the ‘data of love’ son.” The man laughed, wiping an imaginary tear from his eye, then moving up back to his computer. “Maybe you should talk to your Amy? She may know more about what’s going on.”

“I could care less about getting involved in drama.” Sonic stuck a finger in his ear, twisting it a bit as he closed his eyes and looked aloof from it all.

“…Do you really not care about what’s happening with the Amys?”

His finger stopped turning in his ear.

“I mean… a lot of them are glitching… all over the place. Don’t you worry your Amy might suffer the same fate? If you’re not aware of what’s going on lately..?”

His eyes rose open just barely…

The light of SEGA’s offices was just about blinding to a normal human eye, but to an AI system, he could just stare at it for a while and blur out his eye focuses…

“…I’m born with the data.” He leaned up, pulling his feet towards him and balancing a little funnily on the halved wall he was on. “…She should be fine from the effects.”

“You sound so confident. Don’t you want to be sure?” He looked up, pushing further as Boom!Sonic looked down with a bit of an upset face.

“What happened to all your funny one-liners?”

“What happened to all your sense of adventure?”

“Tsk. I’m still Sonic!”

“Then act like him. Go on an adventure with your girl!”

“…She’s not my girl.” He grumbled, pouting and looking away, growing a bit nervous and lowering his voice now.

The man across from his favorite employee’s desk chuckled slightly.

“Wha!? Is everyone ease dropping on me!?” Sonic looked all around.

The other employees were all covering their mouths, trying to remain absolutely quiet but unable to hold in a chuckle.

“Geez…” He seemed very shy now, not liking the joke to be on himself…

“As you said, my friend.” His fav employee looked back up to him with a cheeky grin. “You are Sonic The Hedgehog. You were made for entertainment. We’re just enjoying you performing your proper function.”

Everyone burst out then, and Sonic grew frustrated, jumping up and stomping a foot down on the wall, still gaining a good sense of balance, “I’m Sonic Boom! I’m meant to be attracted to funny things!”

“Ouch, I feel bad for Amy!”

The entire office started howling in laughter, and finally, Sonic quit.

He jumped down, racing off to find a better place to lounge.

While he did so, he thought about what he had said… about the glitches…

He wasn’t around during that time, but he knew it was a thing.

A very hard thing apparently…

Video Game Characters don’t really experience ‘permeant’ death… so having so many Amys…

It was just uncomprehendable to him. To lose a friend…

He dived into the nearest computer, seeing Knuckles and Boom!Knuckles playing ping-pong in the employees break room, and not wanting to really be disturbed too much right now.

However, he stuck out like a sore thumb in the Virtual World, and it was only a matter of time before Boom!Tails started noticing his odd behavior.

“Want to play Tomatopotmus?”

“…Sure.”

They spent a while playing, but Tails would happily look over and see Sonic looking depressed, sighing a lot.

“…Want to try and scare Sticks by setting off some of her booby traps?”

“Eh.”

Tails raced through the elaborate but basically designed traps Sticks had set up, laughing as Sticks raced out with tin cans on her head and waving a piece of foil like it was a shield out in front of her. But when he turned back to see Sonic, Sonic had already raced through the traps and was sitting on a tree branch, looking out at the world and groaning, hunching his shoulders up. “Ooh…”

“Uhh… Sandcastles?”

“ALIENS!”

“…Whatever.”

Finally, Tails had enough. He threw down his shovel he was using to make a sandcastle as Sonic barely strained his arm to place a leaf stuck through the stick to the top.

“That’s it! I know you’re worried about what’s happening in Japan! So, spill! What do you want to talk about?”

“Huh?” Boom!Sonic shook his head, “No I’m not! I wasn’t even thinking about Amy!”

“…So you do care about the glitching stuff!” Tails leaned back, looking relieved to finally hear it. “I was worried you were never going to talk about it…”

“It’s just…” Sonic gestured his hands up, and then got up himself, walking a bit down the beach… “I was just born, and suddenly I find out my data isn’t the same as the other Sonics. Something in me is the cure-all to all the Amys glitching, and since I was born with it, I don’t resist it like the other Sonics do.” He spun back around to Tails. “So-!?!? Does that mean I’m not a real Sonic???”

“What are you talking about? Of course you’re a Sonic!” Tails looked confused, getting up and dusting the sand off himself.

“The code SEGA was so uncertain about is being preserved in you! You don’t ever have to worry about our Amy glitching from your actions.” He said this as if it was science, but the true impact of them hit Sonic, and he stepped back, his face turning a new shade of white.

“…Sonic?”

He scanned the ground.

“Tails… Does that mean…” an immense sadness suddenly poured over Sonic, and he gripped his chest again,… feeling the code spark a reaction… or something inside him. “Sonics really are destroying Amys?”

“…Oh, Sonic.” Tails suddenly realized what his words meant to him. “Of course not. I’m sorry, I-I didn’t say it right!” he waved his hands out in protest to Sonic’s thinking, but Sonic continued.

“No, no. That’s what you said. That’s what everyone is saying.” Sonic turned away, waving a hand out to show Tails he didn’t want to argue about this.

“If those programmers didn’t salvage what they did… then that means I would be putting Amy at risk too. Just as much as the other Sonics are when they choose not to follow the old data— new data..?—Whatever data’s pathways!” He seemed to be getting upset, forming fists and holding them out in front of himself.

“I can’t imagine it… Being the sole reason Amy hurts…”

“Glitches aren’t exactly painful. They rewire the system. If there’s not a path or reaction to take, the system either freezes, crashes, or… becomes corrupted…” Tails lowered his ears, reaching out for Boom!Sonic, but pulling away to leave the topic at that.

“…Have you talked with her recently?”

“…”

“Are you too afraid too?”

“Pfft! Me? Afraid?” Sonic turned to look over his shoulder, shrugging his arms out and acting confident… before it faded instantly.

“I’m terrified.”

“You can’t hurt her though!” Tails raced right back up to his side, shifting to be beside his melancholy friend. “That data… the data that reacted so kindly to Classic Amy’s return… it only proves that you have the key to keeping her from glitching! You’re safe to be around, Sonic! I’m sure Amy feels the same way… she probably misses you too. You’re her friend!”

“Ha! With how my other mes are reacting!?” Sonic pointed to the virtual sky, gesturing to the outside and real world. “Tails, I think we all know where there headed.” He shook his head.

“They’re trying to protect their Amys and save them from the same fate as American Amy…” Boom!Tails tried to explain, before looking away and gripping his arm. “Look… you may think it’s strange… but I’m glad you’re able to have data that allows you and Amy to interact normally and how you should be like… it means… well, that the past actions of the Original Sonic won’t affect the future from here on out.”

Sonic looked back to Tails, “Tails…” his eyes bent a little.

“You’re never usually worried about drama or things like this… but I can tell that when disappearing and never returning are at stake… you really do care about all us. And I know that if you speak to Amy… you’ll realize that code is the key to healing everything that’s been happening around us lately. She may need as much comforting as you do, Sonic…”

“Comforting?” Sonic was about to make another comeback, just something to combat revealing so much feeling but…

He looked away, closing his mouth. “…Yeah. I should find her. You know, to make sure she’s holding up well with her Sisters and Mom all in array like this…” he rubbed under his nose, looking up as the computer’s cylinder rose up from the sand in black and green highlights.

“SONIC BOOM HEDGEHOG.”

“Identity confirm.” Sonic looked a bit annoyed, folding his arms.

“What do they want now?” Boom!Tails looked a little suspicious of its appearance as well, looking like it barged in on their ‘heart-to-heart’, or close to it, conversation.

“IDENTITY CONFIRM THROUGH IDENTIFICATION CODE.”

“Ugh.” Sonic let his head drop behind him before bringing it back up again and stating some digits with significant meanings.

“CONFIRMED. SONIC BOOM HEDGEHOG. MESSAGE FROM: AMY BOOM ROSE.”

“Woah! This thing can send text messages!?” Tails looked genuinely surprised.

Sonic’s eyes widened.

“REQUESTING PERMISSON TO OPEN?”

“Denied.” Sonic raced away.

“Hey!” Tails flew up, “Ohh… Why can’t I hear it too!?” he threw a mini-tantrum in the air, “SOOONNNIIICCC!!!” he called, but ended up giving up, deciding to tinker with his inventions and…

Suddenly gained an idea. “Heyyy…” in a wicked grin, he rubbed his hands together, snickering…

Sonic raced to the outside world, popping out and looking around the empty room to some manager’s private office.

He typed some things in the computer and the voice came back on, along with the green light.

“SONIC BOOM HEDGEHOG. YOU HAVE ONE MESSAGE. CONFIRM READ NOW. DENY READ LATER. ERASE ALL MESSAGES-“

“Confirm read now.” Sonic looked nervous… his eyes scanned the flowing words as they began to type up upon the screen…

“Dear Sonic,… I know a lot has happened between the other Sonics and Amys… okay, a whole lot! I mean, we were just born and now we’re being told we have some mysterious data that the Originals hid away and-???? Yeah, it’s messed up. But I’m really kinda happy about it… I mean, not about the other Amys glitching! Goodness, no! Gosh… Wait, are you still recording my words? Ah!!! No, delete, delete! Oh man… this is a disaster…”

Sonic smiled.

“Anyway, I just wanted to say that how you spoke to Classic Amy… the way you treated her… it was so gentle and kind. I’ve never seen that side of you. I mean, we’ve had only two games and then a television show b-but… I have noticed… how much… kinder you are than what the other Sonics seem to be like towards their Amys. Not that they don’t care about them! But I can’t help but feel we’re somehow… different. Not exactly closer, but able to be good friends and act like it, you know? Maybe that is closer… maybe I don’t know cause I live within our relationship and can’t see it from another’s perspective? I don’t even know if my code could… look, I’m worried about my Mom and Grandma… but the truth is… I honestly just want to be around you more. I want to learn what that new code is and see where it takes us. Opps, that sounded romantic. Backspace, backspace? Can’t I start over? Ugh! Stupid machine! BAM! Ugh! Stop recording! Sonic held his virtual breath in.

“I’m scared too… about the future. If Amys come out as threats to the company I… I just want to know I lived a really good life with you… you know? Okay, that turned morbid. Not that I’m going to die or anything! Okay, this is stupid, please turn off! Cancel! Operation over! Where is the Task Manager on this thing!?!? MESSAGE ENDED. WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY IT AGAIN? DELETE MESSAGE? REPLY TO MESSAGE-“

“Reply.” Sonic cleared his throat, placing both hands over on the sides of the computer, leaning his head down and trying to think of his words carefully…

“MESSAGE RECORDING IN 3… COUNTDOWN 2… BEEP.”

“…Dear… Amy.” He found himself pausing… and quickly tried to take a breath and just not stress over this so much…

What he didn’t see, was that a device was sent to the real world, and was hidden in the darkness of the room, under the table as it looked around a moment.

“Ehem… I know that a lot of talk about glitching and stuff is going on… but I want you to know something…” He didn’t want to tell her how scared he was too. That the unknown of what was befalling SEGA really did bother him. He wanted her to feel the safety she mentioned in the message. He wanted to help her know he wasn’t running from her with his tail between his legs…

“That just because other Sonics can’t seem to get a grip on their relations with Amy Rose…” He brought out that orange code, feeling it soar through his being and calm him…

It was… soothing, and he smiled at it. He didn’t know exactly what it was, but it was what assured Boom!Amy of her life, her future, and her very existence depended on him not rejecting it like the other Sonics did.

“That you will and forever always be… my friend.”

“BEEP-OP-REE…. I sincerely want you to trust me.”

“WHAT!?” Sonic flinched, moving back, “Is that..? UT!” he glared, looking below his feet.

“BEE-REE-OP… Stupid, Robot! Don’t spoil my heroic moment.”

“HEY!”

“I’m not happy that you’re revealing the words of which I so carefully planned to be concealing the truth of how afraid I am to admit I fear what no other Sonic has ventured to undertake.”

Sonic tensed up.

He was too afraid to speak further of what that could mean…

He turned to the screen, kicking UT into a trashcan as he wobbled in with robotic noises of discomfort.

“As I was saying…” a faint pink was barely noticed upon his cheek… “Let’s not run from the possibly of disaster.” He took courage… gripping the courage code as it soared in a river like line from his chest… “We don’t need to worry about a future that won’t ever be. We are different. We’re gonna be the example to all the Sonics and Amys out there! That whatever this code does to me… it’s meant to be specifically for you. And specifically, for how we’re supposed to be around together. How we can be around each other… Amy, I don’t want you feeling afraid. Not when there’s no reason to—so!” He reached through the computer, “So… Take my hand! Just…”

The computer seemed to fizz a bit.

“Trust me! And help me trust you! That no matter what, we’re gonna make whatever this is… work!”

A hand suddenly gripped his own.

“H-huh?” His eyes widened.

“MESSAGE SENT. USER AMY BOOM ROSE ONLINE. CHAT ROOM ENGAGED.”

“Wha..?”

He felt the hand… he could feel the texture of her data seeping through…

He rubbed his thumb a moment over it, feeling how loose it was from forming into her, and turned the hand to realize that it was waiting…

He grinned.

“Alright… I’ll pull you out then!” he tugged.

Boom!Amy came soaring out of the computer, causing the two to tumble to the ground in the dark office room.

Her eyes were full of blobby tears. “Did you mean it..? Do you really think we can be totally normal and not have to worry about all these scary glitching problems..?”

He was a little hesitant at first, but the orange code was still burning neon, and he smiled and put an arm around her, the other coming up to give her a thumbs up.

He winked, “I sure do. Let’s just have fun, Amy! No more crying… alright?” he looked a little troubled at seeing her so upset and took his thumb—still up and ready to do the job—to gently remove the tear.

The willing action of tenderness touched her, and she felt her heart skip a beat as her data reacted to his own…

She laughed.

Placing her forehead to his own, he nervously leaned away, before dipping into the intimate space and smiling as she laughed in relieved joy.

“BEEEEEEP-BOOP-BOOP… Let’s fall in love.”

1. How were you first introduced to Fullmetal Alchemist?

Pictures of blonde red-cloak boy and giant armor warrior + the nina/alexander chimera jokes while surfing through the internet :V (I was in my ultra-Sonic-fanatic phase back then and was searching for fanart)

So when that scene came up the animes/manga, I was already de-sensitized to it through jokes long ago sadfzgfdhgjf

I finally got the basis to what it was about when my favorite Sonic fanartists started to make posts and analysis of it. I firmly remember the discourse of whether the ending of Conqueror of Shamballa was terrible or not, and me not understanding anything lol

 Still wasn’t an entire FMA fan at that time

2. Tell us all about your child your favorite character and why you love them to pieces!

BOY OH BOY, where have you been? *Points to Icon* That guy, over there (Does Greedling as an entity count)

Okay for real, so my first actual fave was actually Greed himself. I was looking at the FMA wiki and reading up on all the characters, and he caught my attention. So I was thinking, “Wow, this guy is part of the bad guys? But he’s not? And he’s actually nice!? What an interesting character! But he looked kinda like a villain beating up Ed...” 

Then he jump-started my motivation to continue watching the 03 anime and I cried over him and how he didn’t deserve to die ;v;.

Several days later, I remember there being some ~Asian Aesthetics~ In the brotherhood version after looking at a tumblr post (You know, that one where it compares Xing to IRL China). 

Went to the wiki again, and read up on all the Xing characters.

>sees Ling’s description (Greed? What??? Greed is my fav, why does he look different??)

“That guy is also gonna be my fav I just know it.” And truth to behold, he is! There’s something about Comic Relief characters that are also secretly badasses that just gets to me ngh 

AnD THEN WHEN GREEDLING HAPPENED OH MAN I WASN’T PREPARED FOR IT

THEY LITERALLY..JUST... COMBINED BOTH OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS INTO ONE JEKYLL AND HYDE THING OH MY GOD??

AND I LOVED IT SO MUCH UNTIL THEY GOT SEPERATED.....//cries

3. What are some funny FMA moments that get you every time?

4. What is your favorite fight scene from the series?

>Roy Vs. Lust (If you could even consider that a fight scene)

>Greed Vs. Wrath (Again, don’t really know if it could count as an actual fight scene, poor guy didn’t even get a chance to attack)

>Ling Vs. Wrath (It just shows the full extent of his badassery!)

>Ed Vs. Greedling (Pretty interesting to see Ling fight badly compared to before  because of Greed being shitty on the offense lmao)

6. Do you have any of your own FMA headcanons? Tell us about them!

>Ling can feel 100% everything that Greed feels and vice-versa in the backseat    ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) (So having his arm sliced off... he felt that)

When Greed gets tired, He gets tired

When Greed gets hungry, He gets hungry Etc. They feel everything with the same intensity. 

>Greed picked up minor Xingese during his body-share, but it’s really shitty broken sentences. He tries speaking it to girls in order to impress them. Ling cringes every time and disapproves of it. So when ling comes back to visit amestris for Emperor duties, he’s known as that guy with the broken language by some of the public :)

“Greed no”

7. Who is your favorite homunculus and why?

Greed, Greed, and Greedle!! THIS POOR GUY JUST BEEN THROUGH A LOT OKAY. 

Oh? He’s different from the rest of us? LETS SPITE HIM

Oh look, we found him! LETS KILL ALL OF HIS FRIENDS! Also, lets supress his memories maybe he’ll accidentally kill of the last of his friends lmao

Plus he’s like....the most docile out of all of the homunculi, everyone else goes “PEH. Hoomans. look at these ants. Its pretty fun squishing them”

meanwhile Greed is the only one out of all of them that goes “Meh. I think they’re pretty okay. oH SHIT THIS ONE IS GONNA GET THEMSELVES KILLED!”

Greed survives with ling AU hands down

Post-series Xing! I bet the food would taste so goood *q*

Ed! cause 1. Im short. 2. I get really pissy easily and yell a lot when i am 

(Other than that, there isn’t any super-relatable characters in FMA for me. I could never be cool as any of them-)
