Anna and Liam are Madonna and Alistair’s kids (per canon), and our tragic little tale of woe begins when Liam Mysteriously Disappears. Liam was known for being a rebellious child, so at first everyone thought they had simply run away...But the way the couple was acting in the aftermath had some of the neighbors raising eyebrows--Madonna was making a spectacle of her grief, while Alistair stood silently nearby, almost looking...defeated. it was very odd behavior for parents who's kid was only reported missing.

Suspicions only heightened when their other kid later died in a Freak Accident. Not much information on the case was disclosed made available to the public, since the files had been sealed. They just know it involved her "tampering" around with some of the animatronic parts the family kept in the basement.

Maddie was one of the neighborhood kids who was close friends with the both of them growing up. Strangely enough, she also went missing. Its spectated by a few that she might’ve seen something she shouldn’t have.

There’s a pretty substantial time skip that happens here, ultimately culminating in the Pizzeria being shut down (TL;DR Alistair goes missing after Going off The Shits making robotic replicas of his kids and their dead friend and without him, the business just kind of fell apart).

Tavy is the security guard. At least...At first. He used to go to the pizzeria all the time as a kid and when he saw the job ad he immediately applied.

And…well. It’s FNAF. You know how it goes 💀.

Their brains all got a little scrambled egg post death and how much comes back depends on the person. Right after is probably the most Blank Slate things get though. Gotta give them a few days to cook.

Liam and Maddie pretty much have a handle on things at this point. Liam remembers but is driven by rage and vengeance and sometimes that makes them forget. Per usual, Maddie is the most well-adjusted of the bunch. Meanwhile Anna is over there forgetting she used to be a person half the time (something something getting your frontal lobe bitten out has ramifications post-death 🤭).

Written Appearance: Liam is a 6'2 tall male with a moderately athletic and strong body type though noticeably not as strong looking as he is in the main verse. As normal, in human form he has brown skin with light colored freckles over his body, however instead of long, light blonde hair and turquoise eyes, his hair is a medium silver color pulled back into a short ponytail and his eyes are gold. 

His  angel form is the same with whitish-silver skin with teal and turquoise markings and freckles, his hands only have 4 fingers instead of five, two-toed feet with a hook on the back, silver hair fading to turquoise, a white and yellow wing and gold eyes with light blue sclera. 

However the most noticeable different is the lack of a right arm in human form, and both right arms in angel form. He also wears a medical eyepatch over his right eye and there is a missing wing on his right side, with the yellow feathers being noticeably short in length. There is also very noticeable scarring over his face and back. 

BACKSTORY

Just like Liam in the main verse, he is the youngest child out of 16 of Leon and Diana Incern. His life up is relatively the same filled with constant training to eventually join the military, the family dynamics and all. However things changed once Liam had gone to war. Around 600 years in, Liam found himself ambushed by Demons and suffered incredibly serious injuries. He survived but only barely.

Both of his right arms were missing, he had several deep scratches and cuts to his body and face that damaged one of his eyes, and one of his wings was completely torn off while the other was barely hanging on. His right leg was also injured in the scuffle, requiring him to use a cane.

With an Angels’ wings being the source of their magic and their healing, he was not able to fully heal all of his injuries on his own and will now have permanent scarring unless his lost wing is retrieved and re-attached. Due to such serious injuries with no guarantee he would make it and even then the long recovery time, he was honorably discharged and sent home to recover for the duration for the war. All preparations he had made to potentially join the Angel Council after the war was void at this point, as Liam found him himself mentally struggling to adjust to his new physical limitations and felt he was no longer fit to join in his current state. 

After recovery he resides outside of his own dimension, due to the Angels’ lack of consideration for handicapped Angels due to it being so rare. 

Liam in this verse is far more pessimistic and sad, but often tries to not seem as “pathetic” as he deems he is even to the point of pushing himself too far and avoiding asking for help even when he really needs it.

One of the collaborations that are part of the tracklist of his debut album as a solo artist is 'Live Forever'. A song made with the American group Cheat Codes and with which Liam has once again experimented with new musical genres, always with his special pop essence, but with electronic touches. But, if the song is another level, the video clip is not far behind. From slow motion images, cliff jumps, the beach and Liam Payne through the air, are some of the elements that make up an audiovisual of heart attack. Without a doubt, a single with not ending up dancing is a challenge.

Christmas isn't Christmas if Liam doesn't release his annual Christmas single. Songs to which the artist manages to apply a special and unique touch to one of the most special and beautiful times of the year. ‘Naughty List’ was his last Christmas song, a song in collaboration with Dixie D’Amelio with which the British wanted to break with the typical canons of Christmas songs and his sentimental style. ‘Naughty list’ is a playful track, just like the official music video for it. An audiovisual that has a scenography where there is no lack of a gigantic Christmas tree, lights, glitter and cheerful colors.Without a doubt, one more song with which Liam Payne has not disappointed anyone.

Happy, danceable songs that provide very good vibes are some of the adjectives that best define Liam Payne's repertoire of musical collaborations. Style to which is added ‘Polaroid’, a song with Jonas Blue and Lennon Stella that has become one of the most popular of the past year. And it is no wonder, the three artists demonstrated the good harmony and good vibes that exist between them, something that has been perfectly reflected in the single. A hymn to love at first sight that with its lyrics manages to tell a unique story worthy of a movie. One more song with which Liam Payne has once again shown that there is no musical genre that can resist him.

Do you ever think about the fact that Louis (& Liam too, but let's focus on Louis) had most of the say in writing 1D songs but Zayn had the least? Like, do you think that played a part in them falling apart? I would imagine it'd be a little hard to reconnect when Louis only has positive things to say about 1D (at least publicly), but Zayn has said he had some pretty bad experiences while in 1D and even said he didn't like the music they were putting out... Idk, it's just been weighing on my mind recently and I felt the need to just put it out there lol bottomline I just wish Louis wouldn't have praised 1D so much and that he voiced out his frustrations even just subtly (but i understand if there's something that prevented him from doing that)

Anon- I'm sorry to have made you wait, for some reason I struggled a bit to write this one, but I'm glad you thought to send this to me! I'm just going to share some thoughts and hopefully they will come together by the end.

Louis is very proud of his time in One Direction. He “looks back incredibly proud” as he said in his 10 year anniversary post. Not only proud of the lads, but of what he was able to contribute to the band and to their success (which was a lot). I think this was a key factor in building Louis' self-esteem. It's something tangible for him to look at from any angle and feel pride not only in the band, but also in himself. He deserves that and he deserves to be able to express that. He put a lot of himself into the band and he has suffered greatly for it too.

On the other hand, Zayn seems to have had a very different time in One Direction. They may have shared many of the same experiences, but there were some very real and very serious issues that unfortunately applied only to Zayn. I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating- he got a lot of hate; he faced racism, discrimination, an eating disorder, Islamophobia, profiling (he was detained and interrogated in a US airport on their first trip here & that literally breaks my heart). He not only didn’t like the music they were putting out, but also didn’t seem to have much say in it either:

“There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band,” he says. “If I would sing a hook or a verse slightly R&B, or slightly myself, it would always be recorded 50 times until there was a straight version that was pop, generic as fuck, so they could use that version. Whenever I would suggest something, it was like it didn’t fit us.” Zayn, Fader Magazine 2015

It’s understandable that he feels the way he does, but that’s easy for me to say now as a fan, with perspective. And of course it’s impossible to forget the time after he left the band and the Twitter fight with Louis and some of what was said in interviews. There is no reason to believe that this all didn’t cause friction between the two, in fact it seems very apparent that it did.

I don’t expect Louis to speak out on 1D (although I would love some dirt). Not only is it a tremendous source of pride for him, but I’m sure there are NDA’s and contracts (above my head) that prevent him from doing just that. Louis and Zayn were obviously incredibly close during the 1D years and I believe they acted as a mutual support system to each other, as much as they could. But beyond that, they can only speak to their own experiences and I’m not sure we should expect anything else.

1.     What do you want to get out of playing this character(s)?

To see him and his story develop, especially with relationships. 

2.     Describe your character(s) with three words.

Strong, fierce, caring.

3.     What made you decide to write this muse?

Liam was my first muse in this game, and I always wanted to play someone that went against typical fantasies of wealth and power, instead someone simple-life oriented, quiet, reserved, cold who could develop into something more if unlocked.

4.     If you could change one event in your muse’s life (in their main or canon verse), what would you change?

Nothing really, everything is carefully crafted to put Liam in the mindset he needs to be in; I already re-wrote his history when I left the game and came back, to flesh him out better. 

5.     If you could tell your muse one thing, what would you tell them?

Don’t be afraid to open up and love again.

6.     If you could give your muse one gift, what would you give them?

He’s not very sentimental or materialistic, but if possible, maybe one more day with his wife that would let him get closure. 

7.     If you had to take one positive thing away from your muse, what would you take away?

His unwavering conviction: He has his beliefs, he has his loyalties, and those don’t stray, and it’s an admirable trait to have a strong conviction that you don’t let falter. 

8.     If you could “borrow” one aspect of your muse and apply it to yourself or your own life, what would you borrow?  

His confidence in himself and his beliefs, to not care so much what others think.

9.     Do you genuinely want your muse to be happy? What do you think would make them most happy in life?

I would love Liam to be happy, I thought there was a chance at first, but that fell off; since then, it seems the options are there, but it’s on him to be more open to allow for it. Clearly the man has lived a violent, angry, and lonely life, one that he created himself because of his nature. He hasn’t allowed himself to love since his wife passed (by his hands in a blood rage), and he hasn’t allowed himself to love again. There’s been a few that have nearly unlocked that, but it’s not until he allows himself to admit it and forgive himself, that he’ll ever be truly happy.

10. Do you enjoy putting your muse through angst? What do you think would break their heart the most?

I do, even if he doesn’t seem ‘angsty’, fact is stuff bothers him inwardly and he worries. He just doesn’t like to show weakness or too many sides to himself. He has been more open, and recently been questioning some of his actions. Hurting him the most would be him harming someone he cares deeply about.

11. What do you love about your muse?

His confidence, and again, his unwavering conviction. His simple-life mindset is also something I greatly appreciate.

12. What do you hate about your muse?

His coldness and closed off mindset.

13. What about your muse amuses you?

The fact that pop-culture references just go flying over his head, because he just does not care a thing about film or TV.

14. What about your muse makes you sad?

The fact that he feels so lonely despite his friends. 

15. How would you describe your muse to someone about to meet them, in person, for the first time?

He’ll be cold, distant, a bit stand offish. May be a bit intimidating, and maybe a bit too matter-of-fact in speaking, seems to lack any real filter. If you can accept that and work past it, he’s a good friend to have though.

16. Would you like your muse as a person if you met them in real life?

Probably, but it’d be hard for me to feel comfortable to call him a friend; I’d be pretty intimidated around him until I got to know him.

17. In what ways are you better than your muse? In what ways are they better than you?

I’m more open, empathetic, able to befriend people easier, but Liam has a confidence and conviction that I lack and wish I had. I wish I could care less about what people think of me, and be more confident in who and what I am.

18. Why do you think you connect to your muse?

We both care deeply about people we love, we’re both a bit quieter, and both of us aren’t the most social of butterflies; while Liam would prefer to sit at home wood working and working on cars, I’d more than happily sit at home and write or watch movies.

19. What aspect of your muse’s personality is most important to you? What aspect of your muse’s personality do you think is most important to them? Is it the same? Why or why not?

Again, it’s his pure and unwavering confidence and conviction. I think that probably is the same with Liam as well, holding onto his identity is so invaluable to him, because if he loses that he’ll lose control and that’s when he’ll slip back into what he used to be. He struggles with the fact that he’s a violent, insatiable killer, but at the same time has compassion for life and doesn’t WANT to just attack and kill. And he has to make sure he accepts that aspect of him, of what he WANTS to be, so he can balance that against what he can be. His confidence and conviction helps maintain that balance.

20. Has your character(s) changed over the time that you have been playing them? How have they changed?

While Liam’s fundamentals, his rules to live by and moral convictions have mostly stayed the same. He has slowly opened up more, been more open to listen and talk with people; though, he doesn’t often talk about himself, he can let a bit of his past slip in here or there. He’s learned to not look at others as potential enemies or victims, but instead daring to call some of them friends. He’s able to laugh more, joke more, hopefully someone’s willing to push that to the next level someday.

I’m a massive film buff, so almost every movie is a favorite to me in some fashion. I adore Star Wars for several reasons, not all of them good. Maybe my favorite movie is probably a toss up between The Big Lebowski or No Country for Old Men, any film with incredible dialogue really. But then I also absolutely love beautiful BS like the MCU films and got shivers during the Portals scene in Endgame, so yea... no idea really.

Currently: The Immortal Irishman - Timothy Egan (This needs to be made into a movie)

7.     Favorite vacation spot -

My favorite vacation I ever went on is a toss up between trip with friends to Portland for a wedding, and Chicago for Star Wars Celebration, but I’ve always wanted to visit Ireland. I intend to try next year.

9.     How did you first get into role playing?

I started playing back when I was around 13 or 14, back on AOL, playing a Jedi in a D&D like setting... because that’s what I knew. People were accepting of it, and it was some of the greatest experience. I love story telling. 

10. What was your first platform? If it was something other than Tumblr, what made you get into Tumblr?

AOL. And why Tumblr? AOL moved to Greatest Journal, which died, and moved to Insane Journal, and I met a girl there who told me about Tumblr RP, which I said ‘that sounds stupid’... and now I’m here. So there’s that. I still really don’t know what I’m doing half the time on Tumblr, no idea how to discover games on this platform, lol.

11. What’s a grammar rule you find yourself breaking or ignoring a lot?

100% it’s tenses. Past/present, I just write how I talk and it’s bad writing, I know. I will also simultaneously explain way too much in depth, and other times get ridiculously lazy writing in-depth.

12. Are there any languages besides English in which you think you could comfortably roleplay?

Just English. I’ve tried to learn other languages, but for whatever reason it’s very hard for me to wrap my mind around sentence structure and grammar rules in other languages.

13. Do you listen to music while your write?

Depends. If it’s just basic writing, an easy-going scene, probably not? I can get distracted from time to time; however, if I’m trying to get into a specific mood most definitely. Or if I feel a scene is heading somewhere that needs a good soundtrack? I’m a sucker for soundtracks in film, and music can really drive my mood (which is why it can be a distraction). And sometimes I write a scene specifically because I was hearing music that put me in that mood.

14. Are you a morning, day, evening, or night writer?

Evening. Which is why changing positions at work will help me, when I start working more during the day. When I work at night it’s hard for me to get up and get going enough in the morning to write. 

15. How does tiredness affect your writing?

Do you know how many times I write something exhausted, and when I come back to read it I absolutely hate it? It affecs me greatly...

16. What is your biggest obstacle to writing every day, if time doesn’t count?

Motivation, mood. I’m up and down in my moods, and sometimes I’m feeling down, exhausted, both, or sometimes I just feel inadequate in my writing and hate writing because I judge my abilities and suddenly don’t want to write. 

17. How many drafts is a paralyzing amount?

None? It’s more my mood and how far I get behind that’s paralyzing, but when I’m not feeling down or depressed, I’m in a normal mood or a great mood, I can write 30 threads in a single sitting and not miss a beat. I’m sure others can attest to how far I can turn around a reply when I’m on my game. (probably annoyingly).

18. Is there anything character-wise or writing style-wise that you can’t stand?

It’s probably Godmodding, it takes away from the fun of writing WITH people if you’re trying to control their actions.

19. What kind of anonymous questions are your favorite?

Things that make me think about my character, or have my character think. Things that make me really develop my character’s mind.

20. What is your weakest point in writing? Angst, fluff, dialogue, etc.?

I love dialogue in film, so maybe it’s a bit ironic that writing dialogue can easily be an achilles heel for me. It’s hard for me to write fluff or small talk, because I’ve personally never been very good at small talk, and focusing that in my writing is difficult. Fluff is kind of the same way, because it’s all romantic and cheesy and really? I feel a bit embarrassed when writing it. Though that’s more or less for some characters more than others. Murad I can get a bit more fluffy and small talky because I can be outwardly weird with him, where as Liam... his quiet reserve and demeanor make those difficult.

The receipts are that they have NO musical background and no, Liam's year on a Music Tech NVQ does not count. Neither can play instruments proficiently, neither has good English or any sense of lyricism. Anyone can contribute a basic line like 'you make me strong' or 'I got no control.' My other HUGE receipt is that they aren't writing for themselves. Louis had Julian on board again for BTY and admited others wrote TOU. Liam only wrote on STD and BF. StD had 11 other writers!

Okay. Lyricists don’t need a musical background. So, first WRONG answer. Anyone can hum a melody into a recorder and have a musician put notes on paper. There are tons of songwriters who don’t formally play an instrument and still write and compose music. So, second wrong answer. Louis admitted that he had a verse and a chorus that he adapted with his own lyrics and situation. So, partial wrong answer. STD only has 4 actual songwriters. The rest are from the two songs that were sampled (music only...no lyrics) and, like any songwriter should, if you sample....you give credit. So, yet another wrong answer. Harry doesn’t have any more musical background than the rest. He didn’t write solo on any of his songs. He also wrote with John. There are 5-7 songwriters on every one of his songs but one. If you’re going to look at them through a lens...you gotta use the same lens on all of them. According to your (nonexistent by the way...still you’re still making up shit with no actual proof) receipts and criteria.....Harry is not a real songwriter either. And I KNOW you’ll argue that all day long. Hell....I’d fight you. So, that long ass ask with no receipts was a big fat waste of your time. You didn’t prove anything except that you don’t have any proof and you’re just making up shit that won’t hold up even if you apply it to Harry. You’re “receipts” would not only drag Harry but the majority of songwriters in the business. Next.

The Good Ol’ Days of RP-Some other Generations

Following up on this post, just to introduce some more characters.

So after the last generation of characters  got their shit as sorted as possible, it was time to bring in another generation or five. And hold on to your butts, because this gets complicated. The next generation brought in a few more plotlines, including (I believe?) some kind of fey persecution thing where one friends almost-entirely-fey characters were hunted down and had to go into hiding back in their home realm. It made for some confusing relationships and some devastated loved ones. And then dragons appeared? 

So first, Landon and Grove. That relationship had its ups, and its downs, and nothing really in-between. Grove went kind of…batshit with her spy work, which Landon wasn’t a huge fan of, but he also didn’t want to leave her. The relationship got a bit dysfunctional, and then Grove disappeared during the fey persecutions mostly because she was a VERY WANTED CRIMINAL. Like, she had broken off from Anya’s criminal guild because she thought it wasn’t extreme enough. The two had Kaelem and Ananse, twin boys. Kael, controlled by me, was the more…laid back of the two? The independent free spirit whose motto was essentially “I’m here for a good time, not a long time.” His mother did not like this, and the two frequently clashed. Kael would eventually run away from home (detailed later on). An, played by my friend, was essentially his mother’s little mini-me, the good boy whose ambitions were whatever his mother wanted them to be.  

There was also Anya and Arram, who eventually had Zenona Anika (who insisted she be called Ani on pain of death). She turned out to be a very, very good thief. She also had a huge crush on one of her thieving partners, Shalan (who was Rook’s bastard son). However, given there was a huge age gap between them (think: Shal used to babysit her when she was born), she eventually decided to set her sights on men more her age. There were other reasons beyond the age gap: despite his centuries, Shal had never been in a serious relationship. He was a love ‘em and leave ‘em kinda guy, even if he was respectful about it. Ani, though inexperienced, knew she was as monogamous as one could possibly be, and that casual relationships didn’t do anything for her. She was unaware that, by the time she turned 20, Shal actually reciprocated her feelings and wanted to be her One. So she got with a man named Renner, and they were a pretty happy couple, until they weren’t, and then Renner died. Anika and Shal eventually got on the same page with regards to their feelings and had a very good relationship…up until Shal also disappeared during the fey persecutions, leaving her with no answers.

Seila and Ore would eventually go on to have Yaretzi, but given they waited about 200 years to do so, she’ll be in a different post.

Now, after all these people disappearing and I think some mass slaughter, what this world needed was some stable rulers who wouldn’t persecute the fey. Enter into this Callum’s bloodline. Callum, who I essentially removed from the RP pretty quickly, went on to have some sprog, who had some sprog who eventually intermingled with some elven blood. Somewhere along the line, some nobility entered that picture (important for later).  I don’t know how many generations this was compared to my friends, but Callum’s line eventually produced the strapping and stalwart Liam and his twin sister, Ghislane. The twins would’ve been happy as minor nobles famed for breeding impeccable horses, but some disaster in the Elven kingdom meant they had to take the throne. They were not pleased, especially because (I think) they were intended to be puppet rulers? I think, given the fey-persecution plotline, Grove wanted to ensure the next rulers would think more favourably of fey? So she strong-armed them onto the throne.

This actually made it easy to converge the plotlines of a bunch of characters.

First, we have Kael. Now, Kael had wandered the world for a long time and had a pretty good time being a jack of all trades. He was never serious about anything or anyone, and then he met Rena. Rena, who he would swear up and down was the only woman for him. But he was still unsure of how to reconcile his independence with commitment, and when Rena wanted them to move in together after only a short while together, he panicked. She accused him of being a commitment-phobe, and then she just disappeared. Turns out, she had been working for Grove, who (I think) would only let Rena out of her service if Kael had agreed to move in (some kind of test of character, I think? I imagine Grove as a smirking villain a la Mother Gothel from Tangled: “You think he loves you? Ask him to move in and you’ll see he’s just a scared boy who can’t commit to anything or anyone. Then you’ll come to your senses.”) So Kael failed this unknown test, Rena completely disappeared, and he was left to his wandering ways. Along the way, he learned that the new Elven royalty were seeking a diplomat to make overtures with the Orcs, and Kael (who had spent a few years up in the Orc kingdoms) readily and happily applied. And during this, he fell in love with Ghislane and arranged a marriage for Liam (to an Orc who I think I played as once. Liam was unimportant for a while).

Meanwhile, Ani, also at loose ends, made her way to the Elven kingdom and met Ghislane. Seeing as the new royalty was not very well versed in lying, or anything courtly, Ani stepped up to be her personal spymaster and best friend. Ani was well aware that most people in the court didn’t have Gi’s best interests at heart, or would try to use the woman, and she wanted to make sure Gi knew there was absolutely someone she could rely on. Ani also managed to learn that Shal was living as a baker in the Elven city, but when she went to reconcile with him she was flat out refused. Shal, it turns out, was not a fan of the Elven crown for reasons I can’t remember (they didn’t stop the persecution fast enough? They started it? I honestly don’t recall) and didn’t like Ani’s new life plan. The two parted with angry words, despite the fact they still loved each other deeply. Shal tried to reconcile with Ani by leaving her baked goods, but Ani wasn’t convinced they’d be able to work out their issues (she was not going to quit, and Shal didn’t want to change his opinion of the Elven royals). And then just when it felt like they were making headway towards reconciliation, Shal disappeared again and Ani decided to be proactive and try to find him. She was tired of being left without answers.

During this period of Shal-searching, a new guard named Sky started at the palace. Ani accidentally ran into the man and they had this weird month of tension because Sky said all the right things, and seemed to know her even though she didn’t recognize him. And then she discovered Sky was just Shal, reincarnated, and with different goals (AKA: his family could get along without him, everyone was safe, and he just wanted his own life back). So Ani got the chance to get to know this new, but familiar man, and they got their HEA (honestly, they were one of my favourite romances just in general? I had others, but especially these two)

Ani also got a little brother named Rhen during this time, but that’s for a different post as well.

Ananse was, I think, placed in the service of the Elven throne to act as Grove’s puppet/spymaster. He also fell in love with Gi, who loved both brothers. But her spymaster wasn’t very popular, whereas Kael was beloved of the kingdom. She ended up marrying both of them—only Kael got the public ceremony, whereas An got the private one. It was an arrangement that worked until Rena came back into the picture, and Kael was released from his marriage vows. Gi wants people to be happy, above all else.

There were also Fel and Jareth, at least for a bit. Fel had a daughter from a previous relationship, Fia, who was a testy individual with brightly coloured hair. She was a delight to play if only because she was such a bitch.

I sat on the cold metal bleachers while the cool breeze bit at my nose, signaling for me to wrap my coat tighter around my body. The bright lights lit up the lacrosse field and I watched as the opposing teams go head to head. It was one of the few times that Devenford Prep and Beacon Hills Highschool versed each other and it was also one of the only times I was able to see Brett.

Brett and I have been dating for almost 8 months now. Although, there was a little problem… no one knew. Brett and I had multiple reasons to keep our relationship a secret; it started with us meeting through Liam and we instantly hit it off, I decided it was best if we didn’t tell anyone since Liam was one of my closest friends. Then adding on the factors of going to different schools, the whole werewolf dilemma, and everyone believing Brett was a giant douche, we finally agreed to wait to tell everyone.

I sat between Mason and Malia as I watch Devenford Prep crush our school. Brett took on almost everyone he came across and was scoring with ease. I watched as Brett’s muscles flexed under his uniform as he ran. I studied the details of how his jersey hung off of him and how beautiful his facial structure was even under his helmet. I melted into this trance until I felt someone to my right grab onto my arm. I whipped my head around and came eye to eye with Malia who was looking at me confused.

“Are you good?” She asked with furrowed brows.

“Yeah, just getting into the game that’s all,” I said, keeping calm. For the past few months, I’ve grown better at lying so nobody could pick up a change in heartbeat so Maila simply nodded before turning back to the game. 

It wasn’t long before the game came to an end with Devenford taking a large victory over Beacon Hills. I sat in place on the bleachers, giving Mason and Malia a stupid excuse of why they should go see the pack and I stay back. I rummaged through my phone until the crowd gradually dismissed and I swayed down the stairs of the bleachers, walking towards a very cocky Brett.

“How’re you feeling? You sure played hard.” I complimented.

“I feel great, so great in fact that I think you should come back to my place to celebrate my victory.” Brett offered with his award winning smirk written across his face.

“Oh really? Well, Liam invited me to Scott’s party after the game and I think you’re going to need to persuade me on why I should hang out with you instead.” I teased as I wiggled my eyebrows at him.

Brett leaned down and I felt his hot breath next to my ear, sending a shock wave of goosebumps over my body. “I have a hot tub.” Brett simply said. I grinned at his offer and at that point, he knew he had won me over.

The car ride back to Brett’s house was quick thanks to his habit of speeding. Brett led me through his house and out to his backyard where laid his hot tub. As we reached the warm water I came to a halt.

“What’s wrong?” Brett asked cautiously seeing my confused look.

“I don’t have a swimsuit.” I simply stated which made Brett laugh.

“Baby, we don’t need clothes.” He said seductively as he began to strip off his uniform until he was completely naked. I watched as he emerged himself into the water and leaned back, resting his arms on the edge of the tub.

“Waters great,” Brett added as he tilted his head back, enjoying the feeling of the warm water. I slowly began to strip down, immediately regretting the decision when the cold night air hit my back.

“It’s cold,” I complained.

“It’s only cold when you’re standing out there, the longer it takes you the colder you’ll get,” Brett replied not bothering to look up at me. I finished discarding my clothing and finally stepping into the water, my skin tingling at the change in temperature. Brett finally looked up when he felt the water move and he looked me up and down as if he was drawing a picture in his mind.

“Now doesn’t that feel better?” Brett asked rhetorically.

“I’m still cold,” I complained once again, knowing very well that I was being a pain in the ass. Brett stood up and moved so he was standing in front of me, his hips were still in the water while his entire torso was exposed.

“I think I can help fix that.” He growled before crouching down to press his lips to mine slowly but still filled with passion. I straightened my back so he didn’t have to lean that far down but it quickly resulted with him sitting down and me climbing on top of his lap. Our lips moved in sync, filled with more fire and I slowly pulled away to catch my breath. I looked down to see his normally bright, green eyes, now darker and filled with lust. He leaned in once again to kiss me, biting down on my bottom lip and allowing his tongue to explore my mouth. I moaned in his mouth as a gripped onto his hair. I felt Brett’s member rub against my thigh and I slowly began to grind down on him causing him to groan. He gripped my hips, his fingers digging into my sides as he moved me against his crotch. Brett rested his forehead in the crook of my neck, starting by peppering kisses down my neck, then proceeding to bite down on the flesh of my neck, sucking on my sweet spot making me moan loudly. He nibbled at my ear as he sped up his movements. The feeling of the warm water and the heat of Brett pressing against me gave me bliss but I still desired more. 

“Brett…” I moaned out.

“What do you want?” He asked grabbing my face so I was looking in his eyes. His pupils were blown and I could see traces of sweat in his hairline. 

“I want you inside me,” I said in almost a pleading tone. Brett grabbed my hips and picked me up, enough to lower myself down onto him. We both moaned at the feeling of pleasure. I began rocking my hips against him and Brett continued to guide me. I looked down at Brett who’s eyes were squeezed shut and I could see fangs beginning to sprout of his gums. I placed my hands on his shoulders for more leverage and slammed my lips to his. Brett moved his arms to wrap around my body tightly and he pulled from my lips and lightly pressed his forehead to mine. Brett picked up his pace of thrusting up into me and I picked up my movements as well, slowly growing uneven and sloppy but filling with pleasure nevertheless. The knot in my stomach was wound tighter and tighter with each powerful thrust. The jets from the hot tub rubbing against my back, applying, even more, pressure making me closer to the edge.

“Brett, I’m close,” I whispered in his ear causing him to growl. He immediately began sucking on my neck again which was the right amount of pleasure to make me unravel. I arched my back, my chest pressing up to Brett’s as we both came and rode out our highs. My body shook as I came down from the violent wave that came crashing down. Brett took a deep breath before pulling out and placing a kiss to my lips.

“Are you still cold?” Brett asked, raising an eyebrow making me chuckle.

“Actually, I’m very hot now.” I corrected him.

“Yes you are, but I think it’s time we got out.” Brett offered and I nodded. We both jumped out and Brett tossed me his jersey to tell me to put it on as he put on his shorts. I threw his jersey on and it came to my upper thighs but enough to cover.

“Damn, you look really good.” Brett complimenting me and I could feel my cheeks redden. He moved over to me and pulled me closer to him by my waist as he flashed a smile down at me.

“(Y/N)?” I heard a voice call and Brett and I both looked over to see Scott, Stiles, and Liam looking at us with wide eyes.

“Uh, what are you doing here?” I asked worriedly.

“Well, you didn’t come to my party and you said would, and Stiles said he saw you talking to Brett so we decided to see if you were here,” Liam answered. Each of the boys stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to say.

“Well, you found her. Need anything else?” Brett asked.

“So uh- you guys like a… I don’t know, a thing?” Stiles stuttered as he fidgeted.

“Yes, we’ve been together for a while,” I said quietly. Liam marched up to Brett angrily and I took a step back from the two.

“You… just treat her well.” Liam fizzled out from anger to an overwhelmed look on his face. He softly spoke his words and Brett stood there with crossed arms. 

“I promise,” Brett said seriously but with sincerity in his voice. Liam nodded before gesturing for Stiles and Scott to leave.

“They really care for you,” Brett stated and I nodded, watching as the three walked off.

“I know, although I like to use the word overprotective,” I smirked earning a laugh from Brett.

“So what about round two for your winner?” Brett asked and I grinned.

“Don’t have to ask me twice.” I winked as I walked back to his house. Brett followed me and opened the door, letting me in and laying a hard smack to my ass and I turned to look at him playfully, he had his signature grin plastered on his face. 

“This outta be fun.” I purred to him.

Bathhouse/Spa Scene

Technically the spa is free - the part that costs diamonds is crashing the “boy’s” side and getting to spend time with your LI if you’re going for Drake or Liam. It also gives us some great insights into Maxwell’s past, by revealing his hippo tattoo.

Like Liam, Maxwell appears to have been very close to his mother and remembers her fondly for the unconditional support he recieved from her (calling him her “little hippo”, telling him that hippos were strong and tough). Both Liam and Maxwell have similar backgrounds - privileged upbringings that nevertheless had its negative effects, lost their mothers at a young age, and as adults they cling to those memories in varying ways.

The scene then diversifies into time spent with Drake/Liam, depending on who the reader ships. The encounter with Liam can go two ways - one is the romance option: a massage followed by some stolen kisses (the MC still manages to kiss him if she so chooses a few minutes later, even if she doesn’t choose the massage), and the other, more neutral option: asking Liam about the “raising a barn tradition”. I’d like the elaborate on the latter, because I believe it raises some very interesting points.

Today I’d like to talk about Liam not in respect to his relationship with the MC, but instead to his relationship with the reader. Whether one chooses him as an LI or not, he is our main link to this fictional kingdom. He is the reason our character gets the opportunity to travel to Cordonia in the first place. Book 1 is about his social season. Throughout the series, we see Cordonia through the eyes of someone who is completely new to the place (the MC), and in that position Liam (as Cordonia's future/current king) is our main source of information to truly building a worldview of this place.

Now, all the prominent characters in their own capacities help the MC understand the country. Hana, Maxwell and Bertrand help us understand the rules, norms and conditions of high society within the kingdom (for instance, making us understand how important apples are to the economy), Drake gives us a unique perspective of the royal court through Savannah’s experience, Olivia in her one diamond scene gives us an insight into Cordonian history that will prove to be important later.

But Liam, in his capacity as Prince and then King, gives us an insight into the heart of the country, its culture, why it is the way it is, why things happen a particular way here.

At the Masquerade, he elaborates on the importance of the social season, warns us about the fierce competition, and reveals how dangerous instability within the royal family can be.

At the Regatta, he recounts the history of the boat race, and talks about Cordonia’s ties with its neighbours. Sharing this historical tidbit saves the MC a lot of embarrassment while dealing with the press.

At the Forgotten Falls, Liam narrates a love legend. This may not have much to do with Cordonian politics or the court, but love legends are part of a country’s cultural fabric.

At the ruins, he talks about history and how his father views his place in it, and wonders what mark he will leave on his kingdom.

Here, after building the barn, he briefly touches on Cordonia’s agrarian roots, but more importantly, helps us understand that the start to a new couple’s life is a community effort in Cordonia - that not only are the couple or their families part of raising the barn, but also their friends, neighbours and peers. Whether this applies to all, or even some, aspects of Cordonian society, is something we may only learn over the course of book 2.

Liam, in telling us these stories that don’t seem to important in that moment, allows us to chart Cordonian history and culture, and gives us an insight into the way the country works. He is our source of information for many of its cultural anomalies, and gently guides the MC - who cannot always relate to their way of life - into knowing how to tackle things and what to say.

In a sense, Liam is our Encyclopedia Cordonia 😂

The MC’s Journey

I’m just going to leave this bit of dialogue here:

MC: When you put it that way, I'm not sure if it's an amazing advanture or something I'd barely survive.

Liam: Most great things in life are a little bit of both, if only metaphorically.

If this isn’t a summary of what the MC’s entire story in The Royal Romance is, I don’t know what is.

Fondue Party Scene

This scene takes place in Italy, during Madeleine's bachelorette party celebrations and after she has thoroughly humiliated Hana. The purpose of this scene, therefore, is to cheer Hana up and make her feel less of a failure than she already does.

As with the Truth or Dare sequence in Book 1, Liam doesn't feature in this sequence, possibly for two reasons: a. Possibly kingly/political duties, and b. He also happens to be the fiance of the bride whose bachelorette party it is, making it even more unlikely that he will be close by, unlike Drake and Maxwell.

However, he does feature in a childhood story Drake tells us, of the two playing hide and seek in the palace as kids. This story highlights Drake's competitive nature (not coming out of the laundry chute for hours because he didn't want to lose) and Liam's tendency to panic/worry when he cannot find people close to him.

This is possibly a trait that has followed him to adulthood, if his appointing of Drake as the MC's bodyguard is any indication.

Camping Scene

The camping scene takes place as a breather for the group, coming right after a charged sequence where the MC gets to ask Queen Mother Regina about her involvement in the plot and learns about her filial relationship with Adeleide. The MC needs time to come to terms with these revelations and arm herself for the next confrontation, and the rest of the group need to be away from court drama. It is Drake, the camping veteran, who suggests exploring a campsite.

Liam is more relaxed and himself in this sequence, watching his friends tend to a stray lizard and offering help to set up the tents. While helping the MC with hers (if she so chooses to let him), he talks of going camping with Drake often enough that he would have to know how to build a tent and fend for himself if he had to survive. Later, he tells her about getting lost while camping, and being found by Drake afterwards. This sequence helps us understand two things about Liam:

1. The Liam - Drake dynamic. Liam jokingly tells us, early on in the book, that Drake "never lets me get away with anything", and that that is his favourite thing about him. Liam sees Drake as someone who keeps him grounded, and as a person who has had his back when he has needed it, such as the boat rescue and the lost-at-camp story. Later in New York, Drake buys Liam a compass as a wedding gift, hoping that if Liam is to ever feel like he will lose his way, the compass will remind him of who he is, and what he hopes to achieve.

2. It also gives us a glimpse into how truly lonely Liam can be sometimes, and why he holds his friendships so close to his heart. Liam is the only one in the group known to be so intensely involved in court, and he can find no genuine friends there. Maxwell is involved only to a certain extent as is Hana, and we aren't completely sure yet how involved Drake is, even though he may be more involved than he lets on.

Liam cannot trust easily. He has learned long ago that there aren't a lot of people he can genuinely rely on. So he holds on to the few friends he has like a drowning man to a raft. He needs this group as much as they need him, because he knows these people care for him as a person and worry about his well-being.

Shanghai Panda Reserve

The group scene at the panda reserve begins with a scenario where only Liam is allowed inside the enclosure, given his privilege as King of Cordonia. If the MC and her friends convince Xinghai to let them join him, this scene is unlocked.

This scene does not have any specific signifcance like the Night Market scene later on in the chapter, but is more of a fun activity involving cute animals.

Liam, particularly in this sequence, shows his characteristic ability to communicate well with animals: introducing the group to Yue Yue and Yang Yang, happily carrying them around, predicting correctly that hunger may causing their change in mood. Liam's ability to connect with animals is a recurring theme in the books: he is shown speaking affectionately to the horses in the stable just prior to the Fox Hunt in Book 1, cares for the MC's horse (if she buys it) while she is gone, has an instant connection with the corgi when they meet in Paris - to the point where he is able to train him for the proposal in New York and is adored by the pandas in the short time that he is there.

Coney Island

The trip to Coney Island takes place shortly after the MC's name has been cleared, and is planned as a way for the group to celebrate the MC's victory over the scandal that nearly ruined any chances of her staying in Cordonia. This - along with the Beer Garden sequence - are meant to lull the characters into a feeling of false security, a feeling that everything has been worked out and they don't need to worry anymore. But even in this relaxed atmosphere, there are signs that things will soon take a turn for the worse.

The most prominent part of this sequence is the scene in the fortune telling booth, where each of our main characters get varied fortunes. The most confusing so far is Liam's, which is the only one written in the form of a verse. We will explore what this fortune could possibly mean in a separate essay.

Liam confesses to wanting to go to the circus/carnival from time to time, but tells the MC later at the Ferris Wheel that he had "only hoped to see the circus, not join it. My youthful rebellion had its limits". Why is this particular statement interesting? Because his older brother Leo, in RoE Book 3, relates to us a story of how he desired to be part of the circus as a young boy, and how Liam wanted to be his assistant. Yet here, Liam tells us that he was more comfortable with enjoying parts of it rather than actually joining it. In a lot of ways, one can see the circus as representative of the world outside Cordonia: while Leo feels trapped in his role as Crown Prince and desires freedom from it, for Liam it is a part of who he is. The outside world represents everything Leo could possibly want from his life. Liam, however, is happier with having freedom in small doses - his joy lies in simple moments where he can shed his role for a while, but not completely because in being King, being protector and guardian of his country, lies the core of his identity. It may not have been a role he may have always wanted, but one cannot deny that it's who Liam is. So while Liam may enjoy thr circus/outside world from a distance, he may never truly be a part of it.

Other moments involving Liam include him joining the others in a high-striker competition (and reaching only the halfway mark), a cute childhood story about how he used to give titles to all his soft toys (when one has the power to grant titles, why let it go to waste?), and an offer to buy cotton candy for everyone. I see the last as his way of caring for the group: he tends to match Hana when it comes to looking after them, individually and together (an example of this would be him ensuring that Drake is well-taken-care-of when he goes to play pool in Paris, and his offer to help build tents).

Beer Garden

The Beer Garden sequence is seen as the last chance the group will have to interact together before the Finale, and is seen as a breather they take before the Homecoming Ball the next day. Almost half the court makes an appearence here, including former ladies-in-waiting Kiara and Penelope, and noblemen Neville and Rashad.

Much of the scene is provided to the player for free, even allowing us time to have a chat with Bertrand about what happened in Paris. The sequence is extended if the rest of the group manage to convince a reluctant Liam to stay back and enjoy the festivities, and involves plenty of drinking and dancing on a table.

In this sequence, we see Liam preferring to be a distant observer who isn't very keen on dancing alone. He tells us that he is not altogether comfortable doing so, which comes as a surprise (considering the MC remarked that he was an excellent dancer during their first waltz together).

This is similar to how he acted at Drake's birthday party at the American bar in Applewood: he has to be pushed to "show a move" during the celebrations, and seems more comfortable doing a slow romantic dance with the MC. Here, too, he needs the MC's encouragement to climb on the table and dance along.

This reminds me of a dialogue said by Madeleine during her bachelorette, when the court ladies explain to her that this is their first time at a club. We don't all have the luxury of engaging in such gauche behaviour. Liam would have been brought up in a similar manner, perhaps with even more stringent restrictions. It would not be altogether surprising if his inability to dance outside of choreographed waltzes requiring partners has more to do with not having enough opportunities to let loose very often.

I love it!  I took Friday off partly in order to listen to it when it came out instead of having to wait until I came home from work.

The album is actually growing on me more and more as I listen to it even though I thought it was great from the start anyway.

Uhhhh, I kind of went a little overboard once I started typing my thoughts...

Sound

It’s definitely got a pretty coherent tone to it which some people will say is too boring and some people will say makes the songs sound too samey, but it’s nice to immerse yourself in a mood and you can do that with Niall’s album.  It’s all very gentle, very heartfelt, and very sincere.  I bet it would be easy to fall asleep to this album with how soothing it is.

I think Niall’s vocals are the best they’ve ever been on the album.  Like I always thought, more acoustic-leaning songs help highlight his voice with it’s more talk-y quality and rasp.  Niall’s always had a bit of an oddball voice because he’s got these clear, pure high tones and yet he can also have a rasp on both the high and the low end.  The gentle acoustic sound of the album helps all of those things shine.  Niall is pretty bread and butter (in a good way that makes it easy to connect to his voice) until he suddenly puts in one of those trills or intentional breaks and then you’re left there with your mouth hanging open.

It’s a bit weird having heard all the songs live and then having to get used to the studio versions, but I think the studio versions are awesome for the most part.  I do think the different notes in On the Loose are kind of odd and maybe should have been re-recorded, but that’s mostly the only gripe I have.

Lyric Themes

To be honest, the lyrics of Niall’s album shock me a little.  We’ve only ever heard his solo songs up until now be about one night stands and hook-ups.  That would be apart from DFWYB which isn’t about romance in the first place.  Anyway, it feels weird that Niall is kind of known for writing those hook-up songs and then he comes out of nowhere with an album that’s all dedicated love, anxious longing, and wistful remembrance.

To be fair, there were hints of it here and there, especially in the lyrics of Temporary Fix.  Something that carried over from Temporary Fix is that Niall seems to have a recurring theme of putting himself in a more submissive or supporting role in a relationship than most men do.  

There are several songs that specifically mention the girl making the first move:

Temporary Fix- “you were looking at me first”

Slow Hands- " ‘We should take this back to my place’ That's what she said right to my face”

Seeing Blind- “now you’re talking to me first”

Then there are several songs that are specifically about wanting his partner to open up and wanting to listen to his partner’s problems:

Fire Away- “you can go ahead and unload it cause you know it’ll be ok, fire away”

Since We’re Alone- “tell me what you’re running from”

Mirrors (sort of, it’s not about his partner, but it is about inner struggles getting seen) “she looks into her mirror, wishing someone could hear her, so loud”

There are also several songs that are kind of entreating his partner to hold on to him, whether the relationship is still going or not (it kinds of puts the power in their hands rather than his own):

Too Much to Ask- “tell me there are things that you regret”

You and Me- “time has never been on our side, so would you wait for me?

The Tide- “don't let the tide come and wash us away, don't let the tide come and take me”

Flicker- “still a flicker of hope that you first gave to me that I wanna keep, please don't leave”

Warmth

I’m glad that there’s an inherent respect for his partners in Niall’s songs.  Zayn’s music has that too and it just makes it so much easier to listen to.  I don’t know how much either of them know about feminism or relationship discourse, but I would suspect Niall isn’t very versed on it considering he tends to make comments that show the unconsciously ingrained and unintentionally harmful brand of sexism.  

Anyway, my point is that there’s a sort of gentleness and warmth inherent in both Zayn and Niall’s lyrics that has to come from their nature because I don’t think it’s from any particular enlightenment through discourse.  It’s nice that it’s from their nature, though, because you can tell that they’re truly decent people.

That’s not to say that Harry, Louis, and Liam aren’t the same, but I don’t know that the types of songs they’ve written have reflected it in the way I’m talking about for Zayn and Niall.  This is because I think all of the songs about love and sex that are based on real experience that have come from these 3 are about men, but I think some of Zayn and Niall’s songs are legitimately about women.

I do hear that gentleness in the songs Louis has written that are about (most likely) Harry or about non-romantic things, and I hear that gentleness in the songs Harry has written (most likely) about Louis.  I don’t think any of Liam’s songs so far have sounded like they were based on his genuine experience, so I can’t judge that one.  

Yes, he and Louis wrote a lot together, but based on the lyrics released in Liam’s solo songs vs. Louis’ solo songs so far, I think it’s fair to say that Louis is far more interested in lyrics and it’s likely that a lot of the lyrics in their collabs came from Louis.  At first I didn’t want to say that because it’s true that Liam doesn’t get enough credit for those collabs, but I honestly think the evidence at this point supports Louis being the lyric guy while Liam is the melody guy.

Aggh, I’m having trouble explaining myself succinctly here, but I’m not trying to get too much into the politics of assigning sexuality to people we don’t know or open a can of worms about who wrote what on Liam and Louis’ collabs.  

It’s just me trying to explain a feeling I get from their lyrics when Zayn and Niall talk about sex and/or women.

Specific Songs

The only pure, happy love song in terms of the story of the song would be Seeing Blind.  The lyrics of that are interesting to me because he says that he’s heard the person speak a million times already before they even talk to each other for the first time.  That would indicate to me that whoever he’s talking about is someone who shows up in media somehow because otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to hear them if he hadn’t met them yet.

The one song I would say feels really odd and out of place to me is On My Own.  I like it well enough, but that and Slow Hands are the only 2 songs on the album that go back to that “single Niall” aesthetic from before the album.  

I also don’t really get the lyrics of On My Own because he talks about turning down someone who’s interested (presumably for a short fling), but then he’s also talking about “kissing all the women”.  So are you up for a one night stand or not Niall?  I haven’t figured out that one yet other than that it’s basically just an ode to bars.  I’m not saying there has to be anything deep behind it, but I like to figure out a meaning for songs that’s consistent across the lyrics and I’m having trouble doing that for On My Own.

Of course I somehow didn’t end up mentioning my favorite song in all of that.  Paper Houses just gets me. I think it’s kind of in league with Too Much to Ask and This Town in that it can be read as the other straight-up break-up song on the album.  However, it’s vague enough that it could apply to any sort of relationship or collective and I like that.  I think his voice is probably in its best element on that song too.

I would say Fire Away is probably my 2nd favorite for similar reasons, but The Tide is right on its heels even though it’s solidly about romance.

See, that’s the thing.  I usually don’t like songs that are about romance because I think it’s way overdone.  About 95% of songs you hear on the radio are about romance and there are so many other parts of the human experience that deserve to get attention instead.  However, I think having not heard Niall write about committed relationships before helps in making this album feel fresh despite that.  I also think a large chunk of it is down to Niall pouring his heart and his real feelings into the album.  It comes across as genuine.

Summary

I really love Niall’s album.  It’s something that creeps up on you quietly and sits on you unassumingly.  It’s a great representation of his entire career so far.  

I personally would say Niall has had the most successful career at this point despite it being the least flashy.  I’m basing that on the combination of the industry buzz, positive reviews, general audience reaction, consistency of charting, longevity of songs, streaming, and sales.  All the others tend to have a corner of the market locked down, but I think Niall’s the only one who’s doing well across all the metrics.  The only thing he’s a little low on is his hits on his music videos, but to be fair he only has the 1 that’s a real music video.

It’s just kind of mind-boggling to think about because Niall always does things like this.  He doesn’t ever stand center-stage, and yet somehow he manages to steal everyone’s hearts under the radar.

To be fair to the others, it has to be said Niall hasn’t really experienced the sabotage they have either.  Poor Zayn and Louis are getting maliciously neglected while Liam is sunk in a shithole of bearding and official narrative.  Harry, while his official narrative isn’t the nicest for fans, generally benefits him when it comes to the industry and the general public.  He could have more promo though.

Random video game wondering. Long post, sorry mobile app doesn't allow for "read more" and I'm too lazy to post this via means that do have ability to insert "read mores".

I have a question for people who play rpg games (specifically Dragon Age and Mass Effect since those are the particular games I’m more so thinking of, not to mention the only ones I’ve played….or played a bit of and plan on playing more of in ME’s case…but question also applies for Fallout, Skyrim, or any sort of game that allows for character creation and multiple playthroughs so as to experience different story outcomes)

Do you generally consider your first go through of the game/first created character as your main or “canon” game/character? Or do you hold off on really thinking about canon or main until you’ve found the “type” of playthrough (character, romance, story choices, etc) you like the most? (Or don’t think about canon/main at all and are just like “hey, chill, you’re overthinking”, which is a valid avenue to take too lol).

I’m all bouncing in my seat waiting for Andromeda, and in that excitement I’ve been contemplating on my Ryder. For now, all I’ve really come up with is that I know it’ll be sisRyder, most likely she’ll embody the “precious cinnamon roll, with the occasional snark” archetype since I tend to gravitate towards that a lot, if hairstyle options include any curly or at least wavy options I'll most likely be using them, cause well duh lol, and….that’s kind of it. Well, there’s also practically a folder full of possible names that I either need to trim down or at least settle on some finalist for first Ryder while holding onto the rest for future sisRyders.

I’m still flip flopping on who she’ll romance. Partly because we don’t really know who is romancable by sisRyders…..but mostly because I can’t decide between Liam and Jaal (assuming they’re romancable at all, let alone by sisRyder). Liam is adorable and my Death in Paradise and Downton Abbey fan self is all “yes plz!” at Gary Carr voicing him (though good god I was not prepared for full Brit accent Gary/Liam. Oh god send help I’m dead).

And Jaal….well, Iron Bull is my #1 Video Game Boyfriend, and I’ve developed serious Garrus love even without playing the whole trilogy for myself. So, clearly large nonhumanoids (and sporting some sort of eye covering apparently, since they’ve all got that in common….oh, and scarring of varrying degrees) that invoke feelings of “fuck, I’d climb him like a tree” is my video game boyfriend type. I’m not discounting the idea of Vetra being my video game girlfriend for a later Ryder regardless of who she’s romancable by, but for now my indecisive ass can only handle two candidates.

A part of me is wondering if I should come up with in depth character study, personality, and what not, and really make Ryder to be like….the best and most (at least to me in my own head) fleshed out as she can be, as I've seen other people doing in preparation for their Ryders. But then another part of be is like “why are you obsessing? She’ll just be your first Ryder, who knows if she’s your main”. Which is true. None of my “main” Dragon Age characters have been my first.

---(long drawn out oversharing of Inquistors/Hawkes/Wardens, again, feel free to scroll past if uninterested)---

For Inquisition, what would be come my canon type of game (f!Adaar mage romancing Iron Bull, mage allies, Wardens stay, I think Orláis outcome that would later become my canon was first used here being reuniting Briala and Celene, Inquisitor drinks from Well, Leliana as divine) was my second ever playthrough.

But it wasn't until I'd played through different characters, romances, choices, etc, before I realized that was my absolute favorite. And it wasn't until my I think 20th/5th (if counting both current games and the games I lost when my PS3 had a meltdown and I lost all my save files/only counting that which I've played since upgrading to ps4) game in total that I declared Yasema Adaar (I think 13th/3rd of f!Adaar mage Bullmances) as my main/canon. And the only reason she beat out previous f!Adaars for "canon" title was because she was the first character (f!adaar and otherwise) I stuck through the entirety of all dlcs with, as supposed to giving up on JoH and/or Descent halfway through and moving on to Trespasser. So, that feat alone deserved the title of main/canon character.

As for my main Warden and Hawke, Hawke is somewhat similar---my favorite "type" of Hawke (f!Mage Fenris rivalmance) was maybe my 2nd or 3rd ever DA2 game (2nd was maybe mage and Fenris friendshipmance, 3rd was when I was like yeah I'm kinda liking the rivalmance). The particular Fenris romancing mageHawke that inevitably became my canon Hawke was just the one of many other mageHawke Fenrismances that I happened to have used in putting together Yasema's world state. So she became canon by default.

Ditto on my Warden. My first ever DAO playthrough was an f!Cousland rogue romancing Alistair and became his queen, my second was f!Amell romancing Alistair and became his mistress when he became king. My Amell became canon because, again, by default due to making the Yasema world state triple dose of mage ladies.

Although, if going by what type played most often.....I guess DAO stands apart from DA2 and DAI in that while those two my most played type became canon, I only have 1 Amell playthrough verses like....3 or 5 Couslands, if counting one that I was in the middle of when playstation had its meltdown and I lost saves thus incomplete game, and another that's from me trying to recently revisit DAO on a computer and I gave up on and is therefore also incomplete unless my console gaming preferring self returns to it at some point.

If we're counting only complete plays, then it's about 3 Couslands, 1 Amell, (also have half of an f!Aeducan that was meant to serve as the third Alistair romance outcome of the two remaining Wardens together, but that got cut short due to PS3 having a second and this time fatal meltdown halfway through playing).

And as for Mass Effect, well I'm still in the middle of attempting to play the original trilogy on PC. It's slow going due to my aforementioned dragging my feet when it comes to PC gaming. So, my Shepherd will automatically be my canon since she'll be the only one most likely lol.

Anyway, so yeah, just curious about anyone who does declare specific portags as their canon/main in any of these sort of games. Is first automatically canon to you, or do you take a wait and see approach before declaring what is your main play through?

Oh and somewhere in all my rambling I think I lost the reason by I started this post in the first place, which is that I'm treating my first Ryder as if she'll be my main/canon, when really my history has shown first ever play through=\=main or canon down the road. Isn't it fun when your ADHD makes you easily distracted *and* hyperfixated? :/ lol
