Kinda relating to your latest post about Lila as a villain/new butterfly:
Honestly, I think it would've been more interesting if the new villain had a different miraculous (let Nooroo rest pls). Or better yet, a TEAM of supervillains. That way there could've been new powers that the hero team has to adjust to. Buuut that obviously would've required better lore and world building like 2 seasons ago so..ââ (â ÂŽâ ăŒâ ïœâ )â â
Also I've seen a theory that Lila is actually also a sentibeing and that's why everyone believes her lies without any critical thinking (or just basic IQ). I think the whole sentibeings thing is the stupidest plot in the show, but in Lila's case I would be willing to accept it because anything would be better than a 15yo mean girl being Ladybug's biggest threat yet...
(Post in question)
I completely agree with everything you said, especially the sentiLila stuff. If sentihumans have to be a thing, then for the love of the gods use that plot point to explain Lila! Something, anything, to justify why she's able to do the absurd things canon lets her do! Plus I'd just like to see one of the sentihumans get special powers because what's the point of introducing magical constructs that can have super powers if you don't give them super powers? I believe that Adrien was literally made from love and yet he gets no love-based powers even though he absolutely should!!! The setup for it is perfect! (See power of love rant for more on this.)
In case anyone is curious, I'll quickly address fixing Lila on a broader scale since I've got posts that I can link to. The sentimonster take would be my path if you wanted to have her use a miraculous and be tied to the Agreste plot, but I personally prefer this fix:
In this AU, Lila is from some sort of evil organization that uses their power for evil purposes (there are lots of routes you can got with this from evil magic to evil company, so let's stay high level and not commit to a path). The organization sees the miraculous being used in Paris and sends Lila to Paris to try to get her hands on the miraculous. Lila is specifically sent because of the Ladyblog. The organization views Alya as an easy in and so they send a teenage member or someone's kid who desperately wants to be part of the group. This new Lila shows up claiming to be a Ladybug superfan, which instantly bonds her to Alya. Marinette's dislike of Lila now stems from Lila wanting to know all of Ladybug's secrets, which obviously raises red flags for Marinette, but not for Alya because Alya wants the same thing. In fact, Alya is really baffled why Lila's obsession rubs Marinette the wrong way because Marinette has always been fine with Alya having the same obsession. We know that the answer is that Marinette trusts Alya, but Lila is a wild card, but of course Alya doesn't know any of that. This makes the Marinette and Alya clash over Lila a lot more complex because it's no longer about lies. It's about trust and Marinette has no way to explain why trust is a factor without outing herself as Ladybug.
This still makes the miraculous the reason for Lila's presence, but you mitigate that by having her tied to some evil group that does evil things without miraculous magic. This evil group would simply like to add a miraculous to their arsenal because miraculous sound quite useful. Defeating the evil group has non-miraculous-based benefits for society, thereby making the miraculous feel like a benefit to society instead of something that should probably be destroyed since they seem to cause more harm than good.

have u watched gavv's first episode yet? it is so good. it is so freaking good.
sorry to be getting to this so late, but I have finally seen the first couple of episodes! and! I am enjoying it immensely! :> I do think the second episode has a much better sense of what the tone and story is going to be; the first one had some interesting stuff going on, but felt more like a prologue than anything else. I'm feelin' it though! (and I hope Hajime is a recurring character, I liked his dynamic with Shoma and I was sad to realize he wasn't going to be part of the main cast. đ)
it's still pretty early on (especially since I find riders tend to need about 10-12 episodes to settle into themselves) but I'm liking the intrigue they've set up, and the main characters seem promising! and I'm also very into the unexpectedly sweet reason for Shoma to be so obsessed with junk food. I wouldn't have thought you could do a tragic backstory for something like that, but...it kinda works?
#art#kamen rider#gavv#gavv spoilers#kind of? i dunno i tend to tag overjudiciously just in case#man though if they said this was the very first hapipare job#then why does sachika already have an entire building and setup and moving truck with her logo decal and everything#sachika are you like. secretly insanely rich or something#this actually would explain a lot about her. i accept it.

Silver doesn't need another father. He's already got one of those, technically, but the man turned out to be a weak, cowardly bastard who couldn't face his own problems let alone raise a child. The way he sees it, there's no need to set himself for more disappointment. He's got a roof over his head and food to eat, and that's far more than he could ever depend on in the last... however many years he'd been living on the streets. Lance and Clair are annoying as hell, but while he's training in the Dragon Den, he doesn't exactly have much room to complain. Not out loud, anyways.
Lance doesn't particularly want to be a dad either. He's already got too much responsibility on his plate as Champion, and this kid clearly needs so much more emotional support than he feels like he can provide. Simply convincing him to move into his guest room was enough of a struggle, and it only really worked because Lance had promised Silver he could "earn" his keep. What the hell is up with that, anyways? He's not sure what Silver's past looks like, and he's not about to go prying, but the bare minimum he can do is make sure he doesn't have to rough it out in the woods anymore. At least Clair seems to be having fun training him...
Clair is more than ready to be an aunt. The other two refuse to admit to caring for each other, but unlike them, she's not afraid of something as stupid as her emotions. The brat's slowly but surely been mellowing out during his training, and her idiot cousin has actually been taking care of himself for once in order to be a "good example." Silver has even caught on to calling Lance "old man" like she does, on account of those ugly-ass reading glasses the all-mighty Champion has to wear, and she couldn't be prouder. Best part is, she doesn't have to spend a dime except to treat the kid every so often! That's a win in her book if ever there was one.

notes: y'all, i'm going to hell. i had fun with this. i have such a soft spot for plots like this.
ACT I: CONCEPTION. you were used to feeling like a guest in your own life, everything fleeting, everything temporary.
sugaring was something inherently lacking permanence, even in name. it was sweet for a moment, full of gleaming gifts that you accepted with perfect tears in your eyes.
you had more than enough money, saved from endless months in which you traipsed across the world in the hands of older men. maybe it was about the attention now, this idea that you were still young enough to be considered enticing without effort. maybe it was the desperation to wring what you could out of an age gap connection before you became the older one.
still, in the beginning years of your twenties, you found it increasingly grating. very quickly, you understood that the men were the main problem.
they were all the same: fleshy jowls wiggling as they chewed thickly through caviar and jasmine rice, their boisterous laughs sailing across tables when you attempted to join conversations. they took your interests and re-explained them to you, returning them pulpy and distorted as they attempted to convince you that you didn't understand them the way they did. their self-importance clung to them like cheap cologne.
the rare occasions where you actually slept with them were mercifully short, and you learned to suspend yourself out of your body. you would imagine hovering somewhere over yourself, banished to the lavish mirrored ceiling of the ritz or whatever opulent hotel they'd chosen. they shuddered awkwardly above you, and afterward, you'd come back into yourself only to scrub viciously at your skin under the unforgiving spray of the shower.
the women were differentâusually. you found yourself drawn to their luxury perfumes and high society drawls. it was because of this that you dropped working through an agencyâwhich you had originally chosen to better protect yourself from male clientsâand began independent contracting.
you kept a private log of the ones you liked best. there was the private university professor (who was really a nepotism baby) who loved to wear le labo matcha 26 and smelled so deliciously of fig whenever she kissed you that you sometimes bought the fruit just to continue tasting her. her nickname for you was something in greekâÎŒÏÏÏ ÎŒÎżÏ
, you think. moro mou. she told you it meant 'my baby', but in all honesty, she could have called you anything. you just liked hearing her speak.
you were a dreamy, distant creature. your appeal lay in your ethereal quality, moving through the world in a way that suggested you were detached from it. people described your presence as lingering, smokey and soft, like a fading perfume in a sunlit room. there was something endearing about the tilt of your head, the deliberate pause in your movements and speech as you stewed in thought, that made people stare a second too long.
you had plied yourself with romantic imaginations since you were younger, when you first grew to hate your mother. that hatred had led you across far waters into a glittering life of your own making. but you'd learned that women could be just as dangerous, if not more so. they could ensnare you, shatter your heart with just the flicker of a glance.
so, of course, this meant that you were bound to get caught in the tides of extensive affection at some point. you just didn't expect it to be with them.
đ„© Ë àŒ àłâïœĄËđ
the first sign should have been the unusual nature they coaxed from you.
you typically focused on one relationship at a time, securing yourself to a single person until you became too honest or too sensitive or too old. but with them, you foââund yourself with what you called a rosterâa term your best friend and fellow sugar baby clleo (yes, two l's) took issue with during your weekly brunches.
"it's not a roster when it's only two women, [name]," she said, stirring her mimosa with a silver straw.
"it's more than one, no?"
"i feel like you have to have a minimum of three." she raised an eyebrow. "though i have to admit, even two is unusual for you."
the first was ambessa.
you'd met her when you weren't even looking, at some jazz show clleo had received tickets for from her newest beau. you had been perched inside the red velvet of the box, eyes roving over the insides of the other open balcony seats. you loved to observe, to look into others' lives and pretend they could be your own.
that night, you'd worn a navy slip dress that pushed the line of being dress-code appropriate, but it was comfortable and you had been tired. your hair was elaborately braided away from your face, threaded through with silk ribbons of the same color. despite its usually disagreeable nature, you'd managed to make it look elegant enough. your skin was littered with goosebumps from the fervent blasting of the air conditioning.
for once, you'd done your makeup the way you preferred itâless blushing ingenue, more cool nudes and a dark, bold lip. in the bottom of your purse sat two rolling bullets of lipstick: one a berry shade, the other a satiny red slightly subdued by a touch of brown pigment.
your feet had been curled beneath you, your ballet flats cast aside in the corner. the rounded tops were slightly scuffed, but you only saw it as a testimony of love. again, you looked out into the crowd only to find a woman looking back.
she was utterly beautiful, and your body flushed with heat for a moment, eyes wide like a doe. her skin was a dark, rich brown that gleamed with a sheen of oil and perhaps a shimmering body mist. her hairâblack and streaked with thin rivers of grayâwas pulled up into a tight bun, though the front was cornrowed. her mouth was full and smooth, a small gold cuff inserted in the middle of her bottom lip.
that night, she'd worn an oversized blazer over tailored pants. your eyes caught on her diamond cufflinks, and you felt your fingers clutch tighter around the bulk of your vintage ysl clutch.
she watched you with a sense of urgency, as if you might take flight like a bird and never return. bashfully, you turned back to watch the performance and clapped politely as it came to an end. her gaze never strayed from you, and as you rose to leave with clleo, you knew that she would be waiting.
you don't remember much of what happened after, of arranging the contract and indenturing yourself to her wealth. you only remember how she made you feel, her great body towering over you as she pierced you with her shrewd gaze. she'd cupped your elbow, pulled you gently to the side so that you were less in the way. the movement was easy; you trusted her with your body immediately.
now, ambessa reigned over the entries of your leather journal as your clear favorite. everything she did further endeared you to her, and you found yourself tumbling out of bed to check your phone where it lay on the floor, desperate for her messages. you watched the device all night, its flat body connected to a limp white cord plugged into the wallâwilling it to ring.
and when she did call, you were almost delirious with joy.
ambessa's world was a carefully curated exhibition of power. noxus corp dominated the skyline with its obsidian tower, all sharp angles and tinted windows that reflected the setting sun like spilled blood. you'd learned early on not to ask too many questions about her work. the corporate merger making headlinesâsomething about expanding into the industrial district of zaunâwas just background noise to the way she'd trace your collarbone with cold fingers heavy with rings.
belatedly, in the midst of your betrayal and anguish, youâd berate yourself on your refusal to engage with real life when it inconvenienced you. you couldâve caught on, dived deep into the hole of information that was the internet as clleo did when taking up with someone new. but you didnât, you just answered her call.
she liked to dress you up. tonight, it was a paper-thin black dress that cost more than your month's rent, the fabric liquid against your skin. you'd paired it with kitten heels that made soft clicking sounds against the marble floorsâambessa preferred when you were shorter than her, easier to maneuver, to possess. your lips were stained the color of coffee, and you'd lined your eyes with something dusky and soft.
the restaurant was the kind of place that didn't list prices on the menu, where the silverware felt weighty enough to be used as weapons. you liked this style of dining; it allowed you to escape further. you could pretend that since there were no prices, every morsel you ate was free and that the woman across from you was someone whom you loved and received love back from instead of bills.
âpull your hair back,â she commanded softly when you sat down, reaching across to brush a strand from your face. her touch lingered longer than necessary. âi want to see you properly. you should never feel a need to hide from me.â
you obliged, using the elastic around your wrist to gather your hair into a loose knot. the movement exposed the necklace she'd given you last weekâa delicate thing of white gold and diamonds that probably cost more than your university education. her eyes darkened with satisfaction. she liked marking you with beautiful things, preferred to communicate through touch and gifts rather than words.
you preened under her clear pleasure. the idea that youâd done something right flowed through you, sweet as sugar as was the phenomenon of female favoritism. your tongue settled behind your teeth as she skimmed the menu, ordering for you as she always did. she seemed more aware of what you liked and needed more than you had ever been.
âare you alright with sharing the roast monkfish tonight, little lamb? iâm not all that hungry, so i think we should deal with something light.â
you nodded and she smiled, chucking your chin as she flagged down the server. you squeezed your thighs together, resisting the urge to rise from your seat and sit at her side with your head resting in her lap.
the waiter arrived with a bottle of wine you were unfamiliar with, which meant it was far more expensive than your beloved six-dollar gas station sémillon. as ambessa swirled the dark liquid in her glass, her phone buzzed. her expression hardened for a fraction of a second before smoothing over.
"business," she said simply, standing. "order whatever you'd like. i'll return shortly."
you caught fragments of her conversation as she walked awayâsomething about zaun's infrastructure and liability concerns. one hour bled into two. the waiter refilled your glass with practiced discretion, and you watched the ice in ambessa's water melt completely. your phone remained silent except for a single text: an urgent matter requires my attention. car service will take you home.
the words blurred on your screen. you'd grown used to her absences, the way she could withdraw completely into her world of corporate warfare, leaving you adrift in these expensive spaces. but tonight, the emptiness felt sharper somehow. you had, more than ever, wanted her to take you home.
it was then that the woman entered the restaurant, right as you blinked upward to dispel the gathering tears. the air seemed to shift with her presence as she absentmindley looked in your direction.
she moved with the fluid grace of someone who knew how to handle herself in the cruel maw of this world, efficient and forceful despite wearing an expertly tailored suit. her left arm caught the light strangelyâsome sort of advanced prosthetic that spoke of military tech or private healthcare. a significant scar bisected her face, but rather than diminishing her beauty, it enhanced her striking features.
your paths crossed at the bar while you waited for a fresh glass of wine. she ordered whiskey, neat, and her voice was rough velvet.
"you're wearing that necklace wrong," she said, not looking at you directly. "the clasp should be centered at the nape. here."
before you could protest, her fingersâwarm, unlike ambessa'sâwere at your neck, adjusting the chain. you caught a whiff of motor oil beneath expensive perfume. you swayed slightly, pressing into her touch. she steadied you with a single finger at the beginning knob of your spine, strong where you were momentarily weak.
"i'm sevika," she said, finally meeting your eyes. something in her gaze made your breath catch. youâd never seen eyes that grey. "you look like you could use something stronger than wine."
you smiled, albeit shakily, which avalanched into finding yourself talking to her about everything and nothingâabout the book of poetry you kept on your nightstand for late night reading, about the way you collected vintage coats, about how you sometimes felt like you were floating three feet above your own life.
she listened with an intensity that made you feel anchored, present in your skin in a way you hadn't felt in months. her questions were sparse but precise, each one drawing out another story, another piece of yourself you hadn't meant to expose. and then she asked you to leave with her, and the answer was quick and easy. a light, eager âyesâ.
the speakeasy she took you to was hidden beneath an auto shop, all exposed brick and piano medleys that wrapped around you like rope. in the dim light, you noticed the way her prosthetic arm moved with incredible precision as she gestured, the way her eyes softened almost imperceptibly when you laughed. she noticed you shiver and draped her jacket over your shoulders without comment, the leather still warm from her body.
"i manage specialized acquisitions," she said when you asked what she did, her smile suggesting there was more to the story. "currently dealing with some complex merger negotiations. but that's boring. tell me more about that poetry collection you mentioned."
you talked until your voice grew hoarse, until the early hours when the city felt like it belonged only to those who were lost or hiding. when she dropped you home, she fixed your broken porch light without being asked, her movements quick and purposeful. you found out later she'd also left her number saved in your phone under 's'.
what you didn't knowâcouldn't have knownâwas that across town, ambessa was returning to the penthouse she shared with her wife of six months, their marriage a carefully hidden clause in the merger agreement between noxus and zaun's industrial empire. their shared living space was largely ceremonial, each woman keeping to their own wing, intersecting only for appearances and board meetings.
that night, sevika found ambessa in their shared study, both of them surrounded by contract papers and acquisition reports.
"the zaun infrastructure reports," sevika said, dropping a thick folder on the desk. her wedding ring caught the lightâa simple band worn only within these walls.
"you're late," ambessa replied without looking up. "the board expects updates by morning."
"i had a personal matter to attend to."
"as did i."
neither woman acknowledged sevikaâs missing jacket which she never was without, nor the faint perfumeâyour perfumeâthat clung to ambessa's blazer. their arrangement was clear: their marriage was business, their personal lives their own. they had trained themselves not to care what, or who, the other did in their free time.
but that night, for the first time since their arranged union, both women found themselves thinking of the same person as they worked in silence. it was one of their more agreeable evenings together.
ACT II: GROWING PAINS.
âwhere do you go?â
you turned, half-lidded, your hair mussed into an untamed birdâs nest. sevika lay beside you, her smile a lopsided thingâteasing, warm, a little worn. you leaned toward her instinctively, pressing a lazy finger into the shallow dimple that cut into her cheek.
she caught your wrist before you could withdraw, lips brushing the tender pulse beneath your skin before pulling you into her chest. her hand slid across your stomach, warm and heavy, before it wandered higher to pinch your nipple just shy of too hard.
the two of you had met in a hotel, yet somehow, it felt less clinical than it should have.
âwhat do you mean?â you murmured, breath catching as her hand stilled.
âyou go somewhere,â she said, âwhen we fuck.â
the words hung between you, and you felt your body shift under her scrutiny. her gaze trailed the uneasy motion of your shoulder blades as you shifted upright. honesty clawed at your throat, but you tried to swallow it back. youâve never been the tiger, only the tigerâs bride.
âi oftenââ you broke off, tongue darting to wet your lips. her arm tightened around your waist, as if sensing your instinct to retreat. âi tend to disassociate when i do this part of things. iâm notâwhat i want, i usually canât achieve. i donât want to make it anyoneâs problem, so i float.â
âfloat?â she repeated softly. her tone was unreadable, but you refused to meet her eyes.
âi pick a spot on the ceiling,â you admitted, voice small. âfrom there, i phase myself out of my body. itâs like itâs happening to someone else.â
sevika said nothing at first, and the silence thickened as you focused on the slow, steady rise and fall of her chest. then, carefully, she shifted you into her lap, holding you there like a delicate thing. her lips found the center of your chest, pressing a kiss over your heart before trailing up to the vulnerable line of your throat.
âyou do this with me?â
ânot always,â you whispered. âyouâreâŠdifferent. you pay attention to meâwhat i need. only two other people have ever been that way. both women.â
âmmm. do you still see them?â her voice was calm, but you caught the subtle current of possession beneath her words.
âonly one.â
âand?â
âitâs good with her. one of the best.â
âand what do you want?â she pressed. the question lodged itself in your chest. âyou said you canât achieve it.â
your cheeks burned, and you squirmed in her lap, but she held you fast. âiâthis is embarrassing.â
âthereâs nothing embarrassing about your desires, baby girl,â she murmured, her tone soothing. âi wouldnât be here if i didnât want you to enjoy this too.â
âi do enjoy it, butâŠiâd like to go further. i like to go under.â you hesitated, then added, âyou know that iâmââ
âsubmissive,â she finished for you.
you nodded, your voice softening as you continued. âi donât really like the harsher aspects of submission, but i love being taken somewhere elseâbeing softer. i love being told iâm good, that iâm doing well. i love being pushed past my limits, to the point where iâmâŠhazy. overstimulated. freed from my worries through my body, through the pleasure i give and receive.
âwhen you manhandle me, when you pull me close and push into me like youâre starving for it, when you break me apart with your mouth, i get so close. i hover in this warm heaven where iâm nothing but what i feel. you know?â
sevikaâs expression softened, her face almost unbearably open. before you could process it, she moved, pressing you into the mattress beneath her. her broad frame blotted out the light, sheltering you in a cocoon of warmth and safety.
âyou are good, baby,â she finally said. âso good.â
her lips fell again to your neck and you felt her slide her thick fingers into the warm walls of your cunt. a sound slid from your throat, something gutteral and worn. she began to move, curling her fingers as if you pull you closer. there, in the back of your mind, was that heaven.
she kissed your temple, her lips lingering there as your body arched into her hands. âthank you for telling me.â
then, softer: âthat heaven? i want to take you there.â
the words sank into your skin, heady and heavy, as if sheâd whispered she loved you.
đ„© Ë àŒ àłâïœĄËđ
ambessa had endured a long dayâone filled with tedious negotiations and the peculiar frustrations of ruling over people who thought themselves her equals. she'd craved just one moment of quiet in her house, but fate, it seemed, had other plans.
when she stepped through the door, the sight of her wife pacing their kitchen dragged a weary sigh from her chest. sevika's movements were sharp, her broad shoulders taut beneath the worn leather of her jacket. even now, after months of marriage, seeing sevika in their shared space felt like an intrusion.
for a fleeting moment, ambessa considered turning around, but she hadnât built empires by running from conflict.
âsevika,â she began, voice clipped, âif this is about zaunâs profit percentage in the acquisition, i suggest you take it up with legal. iâve no patience to discuss business tonight.â
âitâs not that,â sevika muttered, her tone bristling with frustration. âbut thanks for your grace, medarda.â
ambessaâs eyebrow arched. âthen what?â
sevika stilled, the weight of her gaze pinning ambessa in place. âare you the other woman?â
for a moment, the words didnât register. then irritation flared, swift and hot.
âi thought we agreed we werenât in love,â ambessa replied, dry as the desert. âwho i see outside this house is none of your concern, unless it compromises our arrangement.â
sevika exhaled sharply, the sound edged with restrained anger. she reached into her pocket and retrieved her phone, its screen casting a gentle glow across the marble counter. with a few taps, she pulled up a recent conversation.
she paused, a smile stealing across her face as she took in the selfie you'd sent of you and clleo in matching milano blaniks. the tenderness in her expression was something ambessa had never seen before.
my feet hurt but it might be worth it!! you'd texted. she had responded in record time.
looking cute, baby girl. i like the purple.
me too! they had a navy and gold pair i would kill for, but i'm trying to be responsible.
sevika's smile deepened, and this time she sent a bank transfer along with her next message.
you can be a little irresponsible.
oh, sevi. that's not what i meant.
i know. i don't mind. get them both.
"i'm sorry, but were we not having a conversation?" ambessa's voice cut through the moment like frost.
sevika snapped back to reality, her face twisting into something uglyâthe expression she reserved solely for ambessa. she selected another image, and ambessa stepped closer, her eyes narrowing at the familiar necklace adorning your throat.
she recognized it instantlyâit had rested on her desk just nights ago, a small token of indulgence sheâd gifted you during one of your afternoons together.
you were smiling, beaming, caught mid-laugh. your hair was damp, clinging to your cheeks, and a sea lion nudged at your side. it was an image of unfiltered joy.
"she was talking to me the other night," sevika began, her voice tight as a wire. "mentioned some other woman. i thought it was a client thing, but then she showed me this." she gestured at the screen. "that necklace. it was on your desk when i saw you."
ambessa said nothing at first, her jaw working. finally, she sighed, the sound heavy with something like resignation. âi didnât know. i assumed she might have other clients, but i didnât pursue her because of you.â
sevikaâs shoulders sagged slightly, but the tension in her face remained. she bent her head, palms pressing into the cool marble of the counter. âwhat the fuck.â
âdoes she know?â ambessa asked after a beat.
"what would it matter?" sevika shot back, her voice rising like tide. her gaze locked on ambessa, and her lips twisted in disbelief. "holy shit. are you in love with her?"
the question hit like a blow, but ambessaâs reaction was instant.
âas if youâre any better,â she snapped. her tone turned venomous, sharp as a blade. âyou sulk through the door, reeking of her sex, then slink into the shower as if i canât hear you simpering in there.â
sevika straightened, anger sparking. âand youâre what? innocent?â
ambessaâs laugh was cold, cruel. âiâve never been innocent a day in my life. but youâgod, sevika, youâre pathetic. youâre worse than i thought.â
sevikaâs fists clenched at her sides, but she didnât lash out. instead, she held her ground, her gaze fierce. âwhat do we do now?â
ambessa hesitated. her mind raced through the implications, the potential fallout. finally, she crossed her arms, her posture stiff. âwe donât tell her.â
âand keep lying to her?â sevikaâs voice cracked slightly. âhow long do you think thatâll work?â
âas long as it has to,â ambessa replied, her voice low and final. âthis arrangement isnât just about her, sevika. itâs about us. about what weâve built. if you care about her as much as you claim, youâll think before ruining what little stability we have left.â
âfor fuckâs sake, ambessa. sheâs a sweet girl. she wonâtââ
âyou have no idea what she will do if she finds out,â ambessa hissed. âand i know how sweet she is. sheâs the only goddamn person i know who can stand me. who do you think iâm really protecting?â
for once, sevika had no retort. the silence between them was loud, heavy, filled with unsaid things.
âiâll handle it,â ambessa said after a long pause, her voice softer now but no less firm. âbut donât let your feelings make you sloppy. if you canât compartmentalize, this will all fall apart.â
sevika turned away, her shoulders tense. âitâs already falling apart.â

ambessa didnât sleep that night.
not because of sevikaâs wordsâthough they lingered like a sour taste in her mouthâbut because of you. sheâd grown accustomed to the softness of your skin beneath her fingers, the way your presence softened the edges of her world, made it almost bearable. and yet, she couldnât shake the nagging thought that you might be nothing more than collateral damage in this carefully constructed house of cards.
the following morning, as sunlight filtered through the sprawling windows of her office, ambessa reached for her phone. her fingers hovered over your contact, her mind warring with itself. sheâd always prided herself on her control, on her ability to compartmentalize. but now, for the first time in years, she felt the cracks forming.
her phone buzzed before she could decide, sevikaâs name flashing across the screen.
âwhat now?â ambessa answered, her tone clipped.
âthe gala,â sevika began, her voice unusually subdued. âthis year itâs your turn to host, right?â
ambessaâs grip tightened on the phone. âyes. and what about it?â
âand,â sevika said, dragging out the word, âsheâll be there. she got an invite through one of her clients.â
the air seemed to still around her. âyouâre certain?â
âpositive,â sevika replied. âwhat do you want to do?â
ambessa leaned back in her chair, her gaze fixed on the skyline. the decision should have been simple: handle the event with poise, maintain appearances, and ensure that you remained blissfully unaware. but something about sevikaâs tone made her pause.
âweâll stick to the plan,â ambessa said finally. âshe doesnât know, and she wonât find out. not from us.â
they both knew it was only a beautiful dream.

and then suddenly, it was different. it was horrible in its subtleness, but enough to make you less comfortable than you were before.
you went to dinner. ââambessa watched you with eyes as sharp as her diamond cufflinks, and you wondered if she knew how small you felt in her presence. you let her brush her thumb over your lower lip, and you leaned into it, hoping she doesnât notice your hands gripping your clutch too tightly.
âis something wrong?â you asked her, throat closing around the end of the question.
she seemed to startle, and leaned back with a shake of her head. you knew what was coming next. she was going to blame work or her family, which you barely knew about, or maybe something as clandestine as the weather. you suddenly felt entirely too sick. you took a sip of wine, eyes falling on the little brown bag that sat next to you.
every gift you unwrapped felt a little like a goodbye, the sparkle dulled by the unspoken terms behind it. you kept smiling, face stretching tediously through the pain though your heart was sinking because nothing ruined a good arrangement faster than too much honesty.
you mustâve overstepped somewhere down the line, and she had grown weary of it. you were sweating now, looking away from her. it didnât help that your phone had stayed dark all evening, your slew of messages to sevika read and unanswered.
âi finished that book you gave me,â you offered and ambessa nodded. âit was lovely. a little macabre, but i managed to push through.â
âbessa?â you asked, voice small.
the nickname seemed to spur her back into herself and she reached across the table, clutching your hand. her rings pressed cold indents into your skin. you'd grown to love the weight of them.
"the annual noxus environmental gala is tomorrow night," she said finally. her thumb traced circles on your palm. "i'd like you to come."
your heart stuttered. she'd never invited you to a public event before. "another client already invited me. iâll be there."
she squeezed your hand once before letting go, unfazed by the mention of someone else. "good."
đ„© Ë àŒ àłâïœĄËđ
the evening was opulent in a way that made your skin prickle. the ballroom shimmered with soft golden light, chandeliers casting their glow across marble floors that reflected everything like still water.
you'd been invited by marcusâa client who preferred your company over dinner to discuss art and literature, who looked at you like you were made of gold but never asked for more than conversation. he was safe, a spiderweb you could free yourself from anytime without losing any skin.
your dressâa gift from ambessaâfelt like a confession of infidelity. marcus had said nothing in the car, but his face had been momentarily confused. he kept track of what he gifted you, and he hadnât seen this before. you offered no explanation, just smiled softly and held his clammy hand.
the fabric whispered against your skin with every movement, reminding you of her touch. you held your champagne glass like a shield, watching the bubbles rise and disappear, each one carrying a fragment of your certainty with it.
the past week had been strange. ambessa's usual sharp edges had softened into something almost tender, while sevika's messages had grown shorter, more distant. sheâd eventually responded to the ones that had been read, but you felt as though you had disturbed her with them. you'd attributed it to work, to the upcoming shareholder conference business weekly had written about. you were good at making excuses for the people you loved.
and then you saw her.
ambessa stood on the stage like she'd been born there, her voice carrying across the room with the kind of authority that made everyone else feel small. her dress was long and white, with a delicate slit framing the plump skin of her thigh. it clung to her frame with an elegance that made your heart ache. you didn't want to admit how your chest tightened at the sight of her, how your body betrayed you with its instinctive pull toward her presence.
but before you could fully process the sight of her, another figure emerged from the crowd.
sevika.
she stood near the base of the stage, her broad frame impossible to miss. her presence was quieter than ambessa's, but no less commanding. the way she held herselfâlike she belonged here, like this was her world tooâmade something cold settle in your stomach. you shifted away from marcus, moved slightly forward with a furrowed brow.
it wasn't just their proximityâit was the way they moved. the way sevika's gaze lingered on ambessa, the subtle nods they exchanged, as if communicating in a language only they were privy to. and then, as if to confirm your worst fears, ambessa's hand brushed sevika's arm in a gesture so familiar, so natural, that the truth hit you like a truck.
the matching rings caught the light. the world tilted sideways.
the soft hum of conversation turned to static, the lights too bright, the room too warm. you tried to steady yourself, clutching the edge of a nearby cocktail table and nearly taking it down, but the weight of realization pressed down on you like a tide. marcus was asking after you, but you snapped at him.
you thought of the giftsâhow similar their tastes had been. the way they both knew too much about each otherâs companies, about each other's worlds. the little moments that should have added up but hadn'tâbecause you hadn't wanted them to. you'd ignored the signs, wrapped yourself in their separate affections like blankets against the cold.
someone nearby whispered, "isn't that theirâŠ" the words trailed off, heavy with implication. you spun, eyes wide and searching. you couldnât tell who had spoken.
the champagne glass slipped from your fingers. it didn't shatterâcaught by a waiter's quick reflexesâbut the sound of it leaving your hand seemed to echo through the room. both women turned at the noise, their expressions shifting from professional neutrality to something raw and complicated.
âdo you know her?â the question came from a guest nearby, their curious tone laced with amusement.
the tension shattered. the murmurs began, the subtle shifts of the crowd as more guests turned to watch the unfolding spectacle. your voice was barely above a whisper, but it cut through the gathering noise like a blade.
âhow long?â
ambessa stepped forward, her movements slow and deliberate, as if approaching a wounded animal. âitâs not what you thinkââ
âdonât,â you snapped, your voice trembling with anger and heartbreak. âdonât you dare lie to me.â
sevika tried to intervene, her hand reaching out as if to steady you, but you recoiled, your fury spilling over. âyou both knew,â you said, your voice rising. âyou knew, and you let meââ
sevika tried again."babyâ"
"don't." the word came out hard and cold.
you backed away, your heels suddenly unsteady beneath you. the crowd parted like water, their whispers following you like shadows. you felt that your dress was transparent, exposing your body to the their ravaging gaze. you made it halfway down the marble steps before sevika caught your arm. her touch was warm, familiarâeverything you'd grown to love and now couldn't bear.
"please," she said, her voice rough with something like desperation. she couldnât possibly understand what it meant to be desperate. "please."
"let go of me." you tried to pull away, but she was stronger. had always been stronger.
"we never meantâ"
"what?" your voice cracked. "to hurt me? to make me look like a fool? do you think i love being a loser? that i would be fine because i would view this as some way of knowing what it was like to win?" you yanked harder, and suddenly you were falling.
the puddle wasn't deep, but it was enough. your dressâambessa's dressâsoaked through instantly, clinging to your skin like shame. you stayed there on your hands and knees, watching your tears make ripples in dirty water.
"stand up," ambessa's voice came from behind you, softer than you'd ever heard it. âcome inside. we canââ
"no." you pushed yourself to your feet, water streaming from ruined silk. your makeup was runningâyou could feel it tracking down your cheeks, and somehow that small detail destroyed you more than anything else. for the first time in a long time, you felt ugly. "i donât want to come inside."
when you looked up, they were both there. ambessa's perfect composure had cracked, showing something raw underneath. sevika looked like she wanted to reach for you again but didn't dare.
"were you laughing about it?" your voice was barely audible. "about how pathetic i was, falling for both of you?"
"no," sevika said quickly. "god, no. we didn't even knowâ"
"until when?"
"a week ago," ambessa admitted. the truth fell between you, landed hard.
you stepped back, barefoot now, heels dangling from one hand. "oh my god. were you ever going to tell me?â
their silence was answer enough. the air around you grew thin.
a scream rose up from the depths of you before you could stop it, and echoed wildly from the sides of surrounding buildings. you clutched at your face, eyes screwing shut as you let out a terrible heaving noise. you knew they were seeing you now as you really were: a frantic girl who clasped desperately at whatever she could get in order to save herself.
âi hate you,â you screamed at them, hurling the words like they were knives. âi hate you! i never want you to speak to me again.â
it was rendered useless because the three of you knew that simply wasnât the truth.
âjustâleave me alone,â you said, your voice barely above a whisper.
their expressions were unreadable. if you gave in to your delusions, you could believe that ambessa looked slightly ill.
you walked away, legs shaking, each step carrying you further from everything you'd thought was real. behind you, you could hear them arguing in harsh whispers, but you didn't turn around. the city lights blurred through your tears until everything was just a soft shape and shadow.
your apartment felt suffocating when you returned, the silence oppressive in its stillness. you sank onto the couch, your dress pooling around you like a shroud. the tears came in waves, each one more relentless than the last.
you thought of ambessaâs calculated charm, sevikaâs quiet strength, the way theyâd both made you feel seen, cherished. and then you thought of the lies. you reached for your phone, your fingers trembling as you typed out a message. but no words came. what could you possibly say? that you hated them? youâd done that. that you missed them already? that you wouldnât know how to exist without them?
instead, you deleted their numbers, one by one, the act feeling both liberating and excruciating. for the first time in what felt like forever, you were truly alone.
your mother was right. you were such a fun girl, but impossible to love. when someone looked at you, theyâd never see someone worth settling down with. another wail unearthed itself, reverberating through the grave of your body. you twisted, holding yourself with your own arms as you felt the grief break you down.
you would never see them again. there was nothing worse than this, not now. you felt like youâd be better off dead.
ACT III: DEFORMATION.
ambessa hadnât slept in days.
the boardroomâs fluorescent lights cast harsh shadows across her sharp features as she reviewed contracts she couldnât focus on. every word blurred into the next, her thoughts returning to the look on your face when the truth unraveled.
âi donât think i can fix this,â she had told sevika the night it happened, her voice hollow as they sat in the dim confines of her private office.
sevika hadnât responded, her silence cutting deeper than any argument could. ambessa could tell her wife blamed her, and in some ways, she couldnât disagree.
sevika, in response, buried herself in her work. her nights were spent overseeing global operations, her jaw clenched tight as she barked orders to underlings down the phone who didnât dare question her unrelenting pace.
but even the chaos of the companyâs industrial sprawl couldnât drown out the memory of you. the sound of your pleausre haunted herâhigh and wispy as she ate at you. her dreams were vivid, stuck on the way youâd lit up when you talked about the things you lovedâthings she hadnât known enough to ask about.
theyâd both lost you, and they felt it in the empty spaces youâd left behind.
ambessa, meanwhile, pulled back. she gave the reins to her daughter for an indeterminate amount of time, something viewed as largely positive and a sign of trust. but those who knew her interpreted it as a sign of grave danger.
her days were spent much like yours, wrapped in the endless heart of her bed which she only left to sink underneath the soapy water of a warm bath. there were several evenings where sevika would stumble home, slightly drunk but coherent enough to check on ambessa and yank her from the bottom of the bath.
âno,â she rasped, her hand tight on ambessaâs thick wrist. âyou face it.â
and you?
well, eventually you realized that the world would continue to move on. blessedly, your breakdown hadnât hit the headlines or social media platforms. you knew this had to be the work of them, but it was the least you deserved. you cut all arrangements you had leftover. the gifts were boxed up and put into storage.
despite your dramatics, you reminded yourself to not be stupid. all cash you had kept was deposited into your bank account, in increments so it wasnât flagged as suspicious. you had well over thousands, so you broke your lease and found a block several miles from where you used to be.
youâd invited clleo to live with you, but sheâd refused citing her current suitor as her preferred living situation. she felt that he was the one, that they would marry. you felt your bitterness rise up, but you shot it right in the middle of its scaled head. you were happy for her, you said instead of âhe doesnât mean it. please donât believe him.â
please send an invite.
sheâd cupped your face and kissed your cheek. of course. youâve been with me through everything.
so, you broke another lease and left the city.
ACT IV: REVIVAL.
true to her word, clleo did get married, and she did more than invite you. you were her maid of honor; the only bridesmaid at that. this meant that you were captured into a lavish gown that showed more skin than you thought would be appropriate.
âwe canât forget where we came from,â clleo had said coquettishly, pressing a soft kiss to your shoulder. she treated you so fragilely now, and you clung to it. you were pretending it was something else.
the wedding was a spectacle of opulenceâivory drapes cascading from every corner of the venue, chandeliers dripping crystal tears, and flowers so fragrant they felt like an embrace. the air buzzed with the cloying sweetness of a celebration meant to declare love eternal. you floated through it all, a wraith in your own right, bound by duty and the magnetic pull of clleoâs joy. you wore the dress she picked for you: black satin that crushed in on itself like paper whenever you moved and clung like sin, with lace so delicate it felt like a secret. it revealed too much and not enough all at once. you wondered if sheâd done it on purpose, if sheâd wanted you to stand out or to feel exposed. to embarrass you.
no, this was clleo. you were simplyâŠparanoid now.
the ceremony was a blur, a kaleidoscope of vows and veils, of clleoâs radiant smile and the way her hand trembled in her husbandâs. you caught the bouquet because sheâd aimed it at you, her laugh like champagne bubbles bursting in the air. it was later, during the reception, that you felt itâthat electric hum at the back of your neck, the awareness of being watched. you turned, and there they were.
ambessa and sevika.
they stood together, an impenetrable force against the crowd. ambessaâs gaze was as sharp as ever, her golden gown gleaming meanly, a study in power and restraint. sevika, beside her, had the air of someone caught between worlds, her hand resting on a glass of something dark, her eyes locked on you. they hadnât been invited. you knew this because clleo would have warned you. yet here they were, as if summoned by the threads of some cruel, cosmic joke.
your stomach tightened, but you refused to look away. instead, you tilted your chin, the soft wave of your hair catching the light, and took a slow sip of wine. if they wanted to haunt you, they would have to work for it.
it didnât take long. ambessa approached first, her steps deliberate, her presence cutting through the crowd like a blade. âyou look beautiful,â she said, her voice low enough that it felt like a secret. you hated how your skin warmed under her gaze.
âyou shouldnât be here,â you replied, though the edge in your voice felt dull, worn down by something deeper.
sevika joined her then, her expression inscrutable but her proximity unnerving. âwe needed to see you,â she said, her voice rougher, as if it cost her something to speak.
âat a wedding? how romantic.â you let the words hang, your lips curving into a smile that didnât reach your eyes. âgood thing itâs not mine.â
sevikaâs lips twitched, and you scowled. your pain was not for her amusement.
â[name], we made mistakes,â ambessa said, and for the first time, there was something fragile in her tone, a crack in the glass. it distracted you from your ire. âbut we havenât stopped thinking about you.â
you set your glass down, your fingers trembling against the crystal stem. âi donât think this is the time or place.â
âwhen is?â sevika countered, her voice steady but her eyes revealing something raw. âyouâve been avoiding us.â
âi said i never wanted to speak to either one of you again and yet, here you are,â you said, your voice sharper now, cutting through the haze of alcohol and longing. âdo you think crashing a wedding will fix what you broke?â
ambessaâs jaw tightened, but she didnât look away. âweâre not here to fix it. weâre here because we canât let it end like this. and itâs not crashing if the groom extends an invite at the behest of the bride.â
your heart stuttered, and for a moment, the noise of the reception faded into a dull roar. clleoâs laughter rang out from somewhere behind you, a reminder of where you were, of what youâd tried so hard to rebuild. why did everyone betray you?
âi canât do this,â you whispered, stepping back. the movement felt like tearing yourself in two.
âbaby girl,â sevika said, her voice low, almost pleading. âlook at me. this isnât some big scheme, okay? letâs talk. we donât even have to do it here. we can go anywhere you fucking want. just like before, mama.â
you shook your head, the weight of their words pressing against the fragile walls youâd built around yourself. âi need air,â you said, your voice barely audible, and before they could respond, you turned and slipped into the crowd.
â[name!]â ambessa called.
fuck being the tiger's bride, you were the tiger. you stood your ground, kept walking.
đ„© Ë àŒ àłâïœĄËđ
the gardens were quiet, the air cool against your skin as you leaned against the wrought-iron railing. the night sky stretched endlessly above you, an intricate canvas of stars that felt too indifferent to your pain. but the world wasnât responsible for soothing you.
youâd thought the distance would help, that the cool air would clear your head, but instead, it only magnified the ache in your chest.
you heard them before you saw them, the soft crunch of gravel underfoot. you didnât turn, didnât acknowledge their presence, but you felt itâthat charge, that unbearable pull that had slaughtered you repeatedly since the beginning.
âi didnât ask you to follow me.â
âweâre not asking for forgiveness,â ambessa said, her voice soft but firm. âwe are willingâweâre willing to take what we can get. we want to make this right.â
you turned then, your eyes meeting hers, and for the first time, you saw itâthe vulnerability, the regret. sevika stood slightly behind her, her expression shadowed but her eyes fixed on you with the same intensity.
âand what does that look like?â you asked, your voice breaking despite yourself. âwhat could you possibly do to undo the damage?â
ambessa stepped closer, her hand hovering near yours but not quite touching. âwe canât undo it,â she admitted. âbut we can promise to be better. to show you that youâre the only thing that matters.â
âyouâre both so good with words. but words donât mean anything if theyâre not backed by action.â you laughed then, a bitter sound that cut through the stillness. âyou always made me feel like i mattered. thatâs why it hurt so much. i have no place between you.
sevika finally spoke, her voice quieter but no less resolute. âthen let us prove it. on your terms.â
âyouâre not good for me.â
ambessa glided forward, caught your chin inbetween her thumb and index finger.
ânothing in this world that we want with so much intensity will ever be good for us.â
you looked between them, your heart a battlefield between desire and self-preservation. the silence stretched, heavy with the weight of everything unsaid. finally, you broke out of her grasp, a small, tentative gesture that felt like stepping off a cliff.
âi have no place between you,â you said again, your voice barely more than a whisper.
sevika's shoulders sagged with disappointment, but ambessaâs lips curved into the faintest hint of a smile. she was like a bloodhound with weakness.
âis that what you want, lamb?â you looked up at her, sensing a shift in the air. âyou want to be between us? coddled, warm, and safe?â
âambessaââ sevika began, but the other woman held up a hand.
âyou wouldâve been fine if you had know that we were married from the beginning, hmm? is that it? your conscience wouldâve been sated, right? because itâs not homewrecking or infidelity if the partners are aware of the others transgressions.â
âthatâs not fair,â you snapped.
âmmm, well life isnât. besides, you must be stupid if you think every client youâve been with hasnât once had someone waiting at home. this is your life, little lamb. your permanent affliction,â ambessa sneered. âi think you like it.â
you knew this game well. she pushed you, said the best things to make you act your worst. if you gave in, she won.
âfuck you, ambessa.â
âgladly,â she said with a small smile.
you scoffed, irritated beyond belief and moved to storm past her. by doing so, you gave her what she wanted. as you made an effort to leave, she cinched your waist with her arm and pulled you back into her chest. you could feel her breasts against your back, full and ripe like fruit.
âwhat are you doing?â you asked incredulously.
she didnât answer, only hiked your dress up to press a ringed hand to your cunt. she held it there, groping the warmth of you until you were leaking in response. you let out a strangled squeal, legs kicking to no avail.
âsee? you want us so badly. itâs like an instinct.â
you glanced at sevika, hoping for some fucking common sense but found her gazing at your lace-clad panties with something unfathomly angry lurking across her face.
âwho the fuck gave you those?â she said quietly.
you stopped struggling, looking at her fully now. her stormy gaze lifted, piercing you like a spear through weak flesh.
âit wasnât me, and ambessa never gifted you shit like this.â
âi hadâi had other clients,â you answered and she rolled her shoulders, skulking forward. âbut i bought these myself. i donât see anyone else anymore. i canâtâi couldnât. it was hard.â
her face softened at that, and she came closer. her large body covered the front of you, shielding your exposed body from any prying eyes. this meant that ambessa could slide the fabric to the side and dip a finger into your cunt. the slide was slick due to your drooling arousal, but the pain still startled you.
she was large, almost too much, but it seemed to burst a part of you that had been straining at its locks. you let loose a silent cry, shuddering desperately in her grasp as she explored you tenderly. sevika cooed, claiming your mouth in a bruising kiss.
âhold on,â she murmured into your mouth and you clutched onto her, gripping tighter as ambessa gave you over.
sevika walked you over to a small alcove, expertly hidden from immediate vision and grunted as she held you up with one armâremoving her jacket with the other. once the concrete floor was covered appropriately, she lowered you on top of it carefully.
you released her, but barely had a moment to thank her before she was on you. your first thought was that it was like before: relentless, tender, and crushing. her hands slid up your thighs until they grasped at your hips. you rocked into her, moaning softly as she squeezed the soft meat of your stomach. your breath came fast, labored and fueled by aching.
âitâs okay, baby. âm right here,â sevika said, her voice low and firm.
she pulled back, spreading your legs till the pink of your pussy was revealed to her hungry gaze. it winked at her, clenching around nothing the longer she looked.
âjesus, iâve missed this,â she murmured.
you flushed, body pulsing hot with flame. from the side of you, ambessa came prowling. she lowered herself to her knees, back arching neatly as she crawled into the apex of your thighs. her mouth descended upon you with a fervor, her lips closing around your clit and sucking. your back bowed until you were practically hunched over her, hands in her thick hair.
she only adjusted herself so that she could better lick into you, her tongue lapping at every crevice of your cunt. you were dripping all over her face, hips bucking as you fucked forward onto her tongue. her hands came to cup the peach of your ass, squeezing and tugging until you felt like nothing more than a piece of meat. after a moment, ambessa pulled back and laughed as you tried to follow.
âsorry, little lamb, but i need to know if iâm doing a good jobâ she watched you, eyes sharp. âi know you are.â
you shivered at that, and she smiled. impatiently, you further opened your legs and pushed your sopping pussy toward her.
âcâmon. please.â when nothing happened, you let out a groan. âyouâre doing a good job.â
âwhoâs doing a good job?â ambessa asked, moving closer.
you shivered again, your brain beginning to mottle and smear.
âyou are, mommy.â
âfuck,â sevika groaned.
satisfied, ambessa suctioned her lips back over you. you let out a high moan, pushing your chest out. sevika reached over, tugging the bust down and exposing your tits. your nipples were straining toward her, so she dragged one in between your teeth. with a cry of surprise, you slammed your thighs closed around ambessaâs bobbing head. she did nothing to open them herself, only slapped a hand on your inner thigh to get you to correct yourself.
âyes, fuck,â you cried. âfuck, please. please. ohhhh.â
ambessa shook her head back and forth, letting herself get messy as she pushed her face deeper inside of your pussy. you were fully fucking her face now, your clit engorged and begging. whatever filter youâd had before was gone now; your mouth ran like water from a faucet.
âyeah. yeah, mommy, like that. eat your babyâs cunt. lick your girlâs pink little pussy.â
ambessa moaned, her nails digging into the skin of your ass. you bounced as much as you could, that warmth coiling deep inside your stomach. sevika was still teasing your tits, but she had a hand inside of herslef nowâher pants pushed down for better access.
when you realized she was trying to rub one out, you came with a primal grunt. ambessa attempted to pull back but you kept her where she was with a firm hand at the nape of her neck. breathlessly, you coaxed sevika up for a kiss and then pulled her away by her hair.
âi want you to touch her,â you instructed. your voice was shaky as you edged toward your second orgasm.
it took her a minute to register what you meant and you watched her cheeks darken, her eyes flickering toward ambessaâs rippling back inbetween your legs and then back to you.
âi know you want to, sevi,â you murmured.
your mind was almost gone now; you were so close to heaven.
you could see her warring with herself, but you also knew her love for you would win out. with a curt nod, she moved until she was behind ambessa and lifted her dress until she was face to face with her naked ass. with an efficent movement, sevika pushed ambessaâs legs open so she could smell the musk of her large cunt. there was a moment where you werenât sure if she would obey, but then she dived inâlicking a large stripe between ambessaâs folds. you seized around ambessaâs tongue as she squealed in surprise, your orgasm pouring from you like honey.
you puhsed her off of you and crawled onto all fours, squatting slightly to make the push of your fingers easier as you entered yourself. despite not pleasuring you anymore, ambessa made no effort to move as sevika slapped a hand on her ass as she slurped at her pussy.
âholy shit,â ambessa muttered and you grinned.
âhave youâhave you touched each other like this before?â you asked, voice breaking as you reached that spot long your walls. âdid you fuck when i left to try to stave the guilt?â
there was no answer, but ambessa stiffened. you laughed, bright and a little unhinged. it was confirmation that theyâd thought about, but had never actually followed through. you were in a squatting position now, positioning your hips as you rode your own fingers. you wrist twinged in discomfort, but you were more determined to cum for a third time.
faster and faster, you rode. your head was turned up toward the ceiling of the alcove, your tits bouncing as you began to crest that wave. you closed your eyes, focusing on the shaky inhales of ambessa and the wet squelches of sevika feasting on her.
there was a pause, so you opened your eyes and found sevika flipping ambessa over so that the bigger woman sat on her face. like this, she was even more insatiable. she rocked ambessa back and forth on her face, spreading her own thighs weakly as heat cascaded through her.
you werenât sure what did it: sevikaâs newfound desperation to actually fuck her wife, ambessaâs unrelenting eye contact as she came, or the high whine sevika released when ambessa leaned back to fuck two fingers into her frantically pulsing cunt.
but whatever it was ravaged you. you screamed as you came for the third time, legs trembling as you squirted all over yourself and sevikaâs suit jacket. the comedown was impossible. you were incoherent, moaning wildly as the pleasure possessed you.
you heard them both scrambling to move toward you, but you held a hand out. your neck bent, your body settling onto all fours like a lame animal as you let your cunt flutter and clench through the remnants of your orgasm. your chest heaved frantically, but you were euphoric. youâd done it, reached Heaven and taken control.
you glanced up at them and know from the look on their faces, youâve never been this beautiful. if this was what the french called a little death, you wanted to die forever.
âthis is your place,â ambessa said hoarsely. âyou belong right in the center. you are the only one who understands. you are our center.â
sevika lay next to her, and she said nothing for a long while. then her face turned toward you. you met her gaze unflinching.
âbaby girl, please. please.â
you thought you were the loser.
âit has to be different,â you finally said. the two women broke into identical smiles. âit has to be. i want you to be transparent with me. iâm not a little child.â
you thought you were down for the count.
âlike you said,â you continued, staring right at them. âyou are my life. this is my life.â
but here you were, the last woman standing.

More Demon Saint Shen Yuan.
Shen Yuan resisted the urge to roll his eyes as he endured more of his older sister's griping about the loss at Cang Qiong.
Give him a break, okay? He couldn't win that match! The stupid, worthless System that he had transmigrated with had perked up for the first time in literal years to start badgering him about how Luo Binghe had to win or else it would deduct enough points to guarantee him a one-way ticket back to being a corpse. He had tried to tell her that it wasn't his fault, but he supposed that from the outside, it probably did look a lot like he'd deliberately sabotaged her.
Oh well. That kind of thing really wasn't unexpected between demon siblings.
Actually, the two of them got along unusually well considering that they were expected to be trying to kill one another for their inheritance. Sha Hualing had never been Shen Yuan's favorite wife when he first read the novel 'Proud Immortal Demon Way', which was the setting for the world he had transmigrated into. She was just too mean and vicious and interwoven with all the stupid harem intrigue plots that he liked least about the story. But she was still a prominent character, a popular and even iconic one, and it had been exciting in a way to realize that he had transmigrated into a demon NPC.
Though, being a man in the world of a stallion novel was a dangerous proposition unless one was the stallion in question. Shen Yuan's only hope lay in that he was the male relative of a main wife, someone who could at least expect not to become the direct target of the protagonist's ire as long as he didn't make the mistake of becoming said wife's 'evil' relative. Given that, Shen Yuan had always gone to great lengths to make it clear to his older sister that he didn't want to inherit their father's lands or titles, that he was much too lazy and more interested in things like the arts and writing, and was additionally more interested in playing with frivolous things from the human realms than in conquering anybody.
For some reason, this led to many demons in their father's court to refer to in the same breath as the old Junshang, Tianlang-Jun. Luo Binghe's mysterious father. But at least Sha Hualing saw him more as a lackey than a threat, and only sometimes got suspicious of him or tried to sabotage his own doings.
In light of recent events, Shen Yuan knew to expect her to retaliate somehow. She had already mangled his hair piece, which was an emblem of his rank. Father would probably punish him for letting it be destroyed, though he wouldn't punish her for destroying it. Those were the kinds of standards that he had for such things. However, he knew she wasn't seriously rejecting him, because she'd still deigned to smack him around.
As counter-intuitive as it was to the human part of his brain, the smacking around stuff meant he was still accepted as 'didi' and hadn't moved to being a serious threat in Hualing's eyes. If he'd really fucked up, she would have begun ignoring him or else outright trying to kill him. Demons healed from injuries ridiculously fast, especially demons from the more powerful lineages. Shen Yuan's broken arm had all but completely fixed itself by the time they got back to the southern realms, and his sister's smacks barely even registered as painful when they'd landed. He supposed this explained why demons were generally more violent towards their loved ones. For them a few stab wounds or some broken ribs were little more than love taps.
He struggled to return that kind of affection, but he made a point to smack Sha Hualing's arm when she left an opening. She huffed at him, but she also (finally!) settled down after that.
"At least I saved us some shred of dignity by winning my match," she grumbled. âEven if I was the only fucking one!â
Their father's lackeys, the soldiers she'd hand-picked for her scheme, all but fell over themselves agreeing that of course the young Saint had been incredible, powerful, strong, amazing, blah blah blah. Shen Yuan wandered off to let them puff up her ego, escaping to his own rooms to go lick his wounds in peace.
It wasn't as if he didn't have any pride. That match had been legitimately harrowing! Figuring out how to let Luo Binghe win without just tossing aside his spear and forfeiting on the spot wasn't easy! The System had told him that wouldn't work, though, and even he could concede that it would have made no sense. He'd wanted to throttle Hualing when she'd suddenly decided to pick him for the third match.
Though... as he finally settled behind the door to his rooms and sealed it behind him, Shen Yuan could admit that it had been kind of cool.
He'd finally met the protagonist!
He did a little jump for joy.
Luo Binghe shone with the glory of a thousand suns! His aura was almost too much to handle. Not only that, but he was somehow too pretty for words. Still young, of course, but a promising figure on the cusp of his manhood, with beautiful features and a compelling aura of potential. Small wonder that the ladies would soon start falling all over themselves to win his favor. It had taken a lot of effort on Shen Yuan's part not to try and whisk him away from his scum master and the abuses of his disciple days.
Luo Binghe, come live in the demonic realms right now! There are still plenty of things that will try to kill you, but at least they're honest about it?
That was, of course, an absolutely ridiculous proposal, so he'd had to bite his tongue and ended up saying too many other things instead.
To think that poor kid was going to end up in the Endless Abyss in the near future! It really was unfair. Sure he was forged in the fires of that trial, but seeing him in person, anyone would seethe at the injustice of it.
Or worry about the results. After all, as soon as that kid got out of the Abyss, his next stop was the demonic realms. Specifically, conquering them. Shen Yuan wasn't exactly attached to his demon father, but he didn't look forward to the kind upheaval his death would cause either. But that would be how things would go. First Luo Binghe would subdue the North and win Mobei-Jun's allegiance. Then he'd turn his gaze out towards the rest of the realms, and form an alliance with Sha Hualing. Their father would die, Hualing would inherit, and through her Luo Binghe would take control of enough of the minor kingdoms and fiefdoms to be named Junshang. Only after that would he return to the human world and start ingratiating himself to Huan Hua Palace. Who knew how Shen Yuan would fit into that plot? Hopefully he could scrape by as an unremarkable side character, without also getting dragged into too many of his sister's schemes. His best bet was to remain her loyal subordinate, and yet, that put him in the position of having to back her up even when she was concocting frankly terrible schemes.
He would have to be careful not to cross the line from being the ally of one wife to the enemy of others too, considering that most of Hualing's targets were Binghe's other wives. Hualing would never be punished. But her disposable, adjacent male relative?
Shen Yuan shook his head. He wouldn't say his life as a demon prince had been easy so far, but it was probably going to be a cakewalk compared to what was coming next!
"So how did the glorious invasion go?"
The sudden intrusion of a familiar voice into his musings was startling, but Shen Yuan suppressed his reaction and did not show it. Instead he just sighed in exasperation.
How this development had occurred was still unclear to him. Granted, the novel hadn't gone into much detail at all about what state the Elder Dream Demon was in before he met Luo Binghe, but obviously he was incorporeal, and in some contact with the Sha clan of demons in order for Sha Hualing to set him onto Luo Binghe after his surprise victory.
Shen Yuan had known to be somewhat on the lookout for him, but in his defense he had been born into this new life as an infant. He had a lot on his plate! Relearning how to do absolutely everything, plus navigating the weird social norms of demon society, and trying to figure out how to be a 'good' brother despite his father basically throwing him and all of his siblings into a fighting pit and encouraging them to thin the herd. He'd had a lot more older brothers and sisters than just Hualing back then, and hadnât done his welfare a lot of favors by throwing himself between his plot-relevant sister and all the bigger, meaner siblings who were out for her blood. But somehow he had managed to survive, despite being perfectly unwilling to murder baby demons. Well, to be fair most of them had only really died during the adolescent trials that started at age ten, which he tried desperately not to remember or think about at all.
It had only been a couple of years ago that he had to start worrying about the plot itself, and it was around that time too when he'd followed Hualing into sneaking into one of the fortress vaults, and picked up a weird looking statue. The statue drew his attention because such crafts were pretty rare in the demonic realms, and most commonly stolen from humans.
But this one didn't look like any of the usual human designs. In fact, it looked distinctly evil in nature. Shen Yuan couldn't have even said what it was supposed to be a sculpture of. It was a little larger than his palm and very abstract, depicting swooping whorls and eyes, grasping, clawed hands, and the implication of entwined figures. It reminded him more of modern horror art from the world he'd left behind than an ancient artifact, but a lot of 'demonic culture' items were pretty much ripped straight from anime and Hollywood aesthetics. Shout out to the hack author for his stunning originality.
The sculpture had begun to glow, and then it had spoken. And then Shen Yuan found out that he'd accidentally picked up Meng Mo's tomb.
Or anchor. Coffin. Totem? Whatever one wanted to call it. The sculpture was currently helping keep what was left of the dream demon somewhat connected to this world after losing his body, though it had been running low of energy to sustain him. The System had chimed in to let him know that he needed to ensure it didn't run out, and Shen Yuan had dutifully tried to foist the object onto his sister, but it hadn't worked. Hualing must have taken it herself in the original story. If he'd been smarter, Shen Yuan would have thought to pretend he desperately wanted the object. That would have had her stealing it from him in no time. But instead he tried to give it away, and she'd been instantly suspicious and refused to touch it.
Which left him saddled with the annoying old geezer.
Usually Shen Yuan kept him in his study, not the main room, but ever since he began feeding more energy into the statue, Meng Mo had gained a supernatural ability to move it around. He liked to spy on people even outside of dreams, and seemed particularly fond of turning up on Shen Yuan's desks and tables and demanding tributes or respect or attention. Like an ill-behaved cat that was also a cursed tchotchke.
"Why aren't you in your spot?" he groused.
The statue glowed faintly as the dream demon chuckled. Parts of it shifted around so that one of the eye-shaped pieces seemed to stare at him.
"It went that well, huh? What a shame, I thought that sister of yours might have a chance if none of the peak lords were around."
"One of the peak lords showed up," Shen Yuan admitted.
"Hm, I'm surprised you're not dead in that case."
"It was only one."
The System chose that moment to chime in, sounding fainter and looking a bit more flimsy than it had when he had been in Luo Binghe's presence, when it had opted to start yelling at him over point deductions. He wondered if it worked less well when the protagonist wasn't around. Yet another good reason to try and avoid the plot, he supposed. Though the System's intervention in his life had been minimal so far, almost all of it involved threatening him with death unless he cooperated, and saddling him with troublesome things like Meng Mo.
Plot Point: Luo Binghe's Demon Tutor is a necessary component of the narrative. Please ensure the Elder Dream Demon encounters Luo Binghe and accepts him as a student. Warning: failure to comply will result in loss of B points.
See? Like that!
At least this presented an opportunity to get rid of a certain freeloader, and get Luo Binghe the teacher he desperately needed in the same stroke.
"Say, Elder, do you know of any cases where a demon had their potential sealed, and pretended to live as a human?" he asked, suddenly very interested in the prospect of getting this plot going. Meng Mo wasn't really so bad, he supposed, but he'd be happier to send him off to help Luo Binghe and wouldn't weep for the number of inkwells no longer passive-aggressively knocked off his writing desk. Or the hassle of having to find stuff to feed the old bastard.
"That's a strange thing to ask," Meng Mo replied. Shen Yuan could hear the frown in his voice, but also an underlying note of intrigue.
"When the peak lord showed up at the invasion, Da'jie proposed a series of duels to resolve the issue without us all getting slaughtered. I fought a young disciple, but his power was strange. He fought more like a demon youth than the other humans did," he explained.
"Hm," Meng Mo replied. The statue twisted around in his perception, shifting in minute, eerie ways that Shen Yuan had never been able to concretely pin down. He couldn't have said which pieces went from one place to another. "Sealing demonic power happens, but if that was the case, such a person would be too weak and devoid of talent to ever be taken in by human cultivators. Humans can't just train any one of them up to potential. Most of them don't even have an ounce of ability to cultivate, which is why they're so weak. It's only a few who can ever be on the level of demonkind."
Shen Yuan rolled his eyes. Yes, yes, demon superiority, blah blah blah. It was a complicated social issue in its way, since demons, despite being overall stronger, struggled as communities. It might have been different if demons could live in the human realm, which was a lot less harsh, but there were enough human cultivators to ensure that they were always beaten back or hunted down any time they tried. Demon culture had a lot to say about the superiority of living in a region full of big hostile beasts and plants that would either fuck you or eat you or both, but given half the chance, most would probably love to live where the fortress walls didn't have to be meters thick or buried underground. The only downside would be potentially eating their way through the whole ecosystem and then accidentally starving as a result. But then again, it wasnât as if humans didnât routinely do that sort of thing too.
"Well what if he had some potential anyway?" he suggested.
"Ha! For that kind of thing to work, your little disciple would have to be a rare kind of halfbreed," Meng Mo mused. "Nearly impossible. I've lived a long time and even I only ever heard tales of such things."
"Nearly impossible?" Shen Yuan pressed.
"Extremely unlikely. Especially if heâs part human. Even strictly among different kinds of demons, most hybrids that survive infancy just strongly favor one parent or the other. Or else they turn out ugly freaks. Was this kid an ugly freak?"
"No!" Shen Yuan insisted. "He was beautiful!"
There was an awkward pause.
"...So your interest in this human disciple, it's...?"
For some reason he felt a little flustered.
"He just seemed weird, alright? I thought you might know. But if Elder doesn't-"
"Hold on, hold on, when did I say I didn't know? You're the one making snap judgments here, all this elder has to go off is some brat's description of another brat! If I saw him, I'd be able to tell you!"
Shen Yuan resisted the urge to pump his fist in victory.
"Okay then, you should go tonight," he agreed.
"What? Go where?"
"Into his dreams, obviously. How else are you going to assess him?"
The statue flickered a bit.
"Now wait just a minute, it takes a lot of energy to do that kind of thing," the old demon protested. "I'm not going into some brat's dreams on the whims of your say-so, just because he's got a pretty face..."
"What's his face got to do with anything?!"
"Kids these days, thinking they can just boss their elders around, there's no respect-"
"Are you telling me that the great and mighty Master Dream Demon, who terrorized generations of demons so badly that the mere mention of his name was considered a curse, doesn't have the strength to go spy on a simple human disciple? Even after all the tributes I've given? How pathetic. I guess I'll just throw this old rock out into the trash," Shen Yuan goaded, moving towards the table that Meng Mo had situated himself on.
"Mouthy fucking brat! You wouldn't dare!" the dream demon protested.
"What good are you to me if you're so weak?" Shen Yuan reasoned, well-acquainted with demonic cultural attitudes on this point. Such a shitty eat-or-be-eaten kind of a world. Didn't the author know these tropes were unenlightened and problematic these days?
"Weak, who's weak? Of course I can do it! But it's been so long since you gave me any energy at all, why waste it?"
"I fed you before I left!"
"And I spent that energy well, entertaining your mother in her dreams!"
Shen Yuan made a rude gesture at the sculpture, but the old demon just cackled. The jab didn't really land anyway. Shen Yuan didn't mind his mother in this lifetime, but she wasn't terribly maternal. Mostly she treated him like an investment which she expected to see pay dividends someday, and was disappointed in his lack of ambition or willingness to murder his older sister. But she was one of the lord's favored concubines, not his main wife, and also not interested in being killed by the main wife, who was Hualing's mother. So she was pretty diplomatic and circumspect about her disappointment in him, and focused most of her attention on keeping his father's favor. If she really was fooling around with Meng Mo on the side, he just didn't want to know.
"I'm dumping you in the trash," he insisted again.
"Alright, alright, calm down! I'll spy on this pretty boy of yours for you. But after that, you better bring me something good! Dream Jade or dragon scales!"
Shen Yuan made a show of disagreeing, mostly because those kinds of offerings, though rich in energy that could sustain the dream demon, were pretty expensive and hard to come by. No one would agree to that sort of deal easily. But of course, Meng Mo would not be able to collect once he latched on to Luo Binghe and started using his energy to sustain himself, so in the end he agreed and let Meng Mo gloat (as much as a disembodied voice and a weird sculpture could) before shoving him in a desk drawer as retribution.
"Disrespectful little ingrate!" the dream demon shouted after him.
Figuring that his rooms would be too noisy for a while, Shen Yuan headed out again and made his way to the eastern courtyard, where his youngest siblings could be found.
They were the children of less favored concubines. He felt badly for them, but there also wasn't much he could do without challenging his father directly, and if he did that he would have a hell of a mess on his hands even if he managed to actually beat him. Which wasn't likely, at least not at his current level. Even though he was smarter than the average child thanks to his memories, he was only thirteen years old. He still wasn't even as big as Hualing, who was quite petite, and despite his potential he wasn't the kind of thirteen-year-old that could beat up opponents more than twice his size. Not unless they were pretty weak. His father was built like an ox, in the standard fictional paradox of the big ugly man whose daughter was still somehow dainty and fair, and had crushed lesser demons to death with his bare hands.
In other words, his father wasn't a pushover and there was a reason he was acknowledged as one of the most powerful rulers around.
But in the meanwhile, Shen Yuan at least tried to make sure his younger siblings hadn't yet been completely poisoned by the might-makes-right nature of demon society. They were pretty cute in fact, despite that they all seemed to love biting him. And biting anything else that got within biting range.
"Da'ge! Da'ge!" the little voices chirped as soon as he finished passing through the tunnel that led to the above-ground courtyard. Over in this part of the fortress the weather was less kind, and dust storms had passed over the walls, making everything taste like ash and grit. He covered half of his face with his high collar, but let himself be mobbed by little demons.
"Did Da'ge bring snacks?"
"Treats? Treats for Meimei?"
"Did Da-jie get killed by mad cultivators?"
"Can we eat her bones?"
"Don't be stupid! Da'ge will have eaten her bones first! Right after her heart!"
"Wouldn't Ge save us a little of her bones? Just the bones! I'm sure he would!"
Shen Yuan sighed. Well, maybe he was deluding himself if he thought they weren't already vicious little fiends. He reached into the storage pocket of one of his sleeves, and pulled some live lizards and frogs out. With a mental apology to the poor creatures, he let them go. His younger siblings cheered like he'd poured out a bag of candy, and immediately set about catching them and trying to shove them into their mouths.
Back when he was such an age, Shen Yuan had worried his mother by refusing to eat anything that was still alive.
"Da'jie didn't get killed," he explained. "She's perfectly alright, so no one can eat any of her bones or her organs at all."
A chorus of disappointed groans greeted this announcement. mitigated only by the crunching of lizards between tiny, sharp teeth.
Honestly, Shen Yuan had no idea why they were so struck on the notion of Hualing dying. Did he seem like the kind of guy who ought to be in charge of a demon fortress? Not that he expected a bunch of feral demon babies to understand the burdens of leadership, but still. According to most demon standards they should have been bigger fans of Hualing. Then again, maybe she got these conversations in reverse whenever she happened to visit?
He wouldn't put it past his little siblings to play all the angles. Demon kids just grew up that way. Whoever was the strongest in the room, that was who you sucked up to unless you were the strongest in the room!
Shen Yuan watched as they caught the last of their slippery prey, and broke up a few fights over the legs, before he let himself be used as a jungle gym. The feral buns clambered over him and tugged at his sleeves and his spirit ribbons, chewing on his hair and biting at his ankles. He swung them up and tossed them into the air, and roughhoused with them for a while. Honestly even with demon instincts he didn't care much for hurting them, but if he didn't leave at least a few tiny bruises they got upset and confused, so it was a balancing act. And it did sort of satisfy something in his instincts to make playful growling noises and put on a big fake display of pain any time one of them jumped on him.
Sometimes not-so-fake after all; those little elbows were pointy, and the milk teeth were sharp.
Eventually their mothers came back from their hunts, bringing whatever spoils they could collect from the windswept wilds beyond the fortress. Sometimes low-ranking concubines and slaves tried to run, but the terrain outside was difficult to navigate and they almost always got brought back by one of his father's servants, so usually it was only the newcomers who made the attempt. And of course, sometimes they didn't make it back for other reasons. Shen Yuan lingered just long enough to be sure they'd caught something and that everyone had returned in one piece, then he pried his little siblings off and made his way back out again, not eager to intrude on the fullness of meal time. It wasn't pretty.
He'd tried not to make a lot of uncomfortable things that went on in the fortress his business. It was just asking for trouble. But it was easier said than done, when one spent their life being raised in such a place, and came to it with sensibilities forged by a different society.
Shen Yuan was the type of person who could easily settle in if he was reasonably safe and distracted, even if the circumstances weren't ideal. That was how he had managed most of his first life. But that approach depended on a certain minimum of comfort, a decent place to hunker down and hide from the problems of the world. The demon realms offered few such places, and those that existed were temporary in nature. A person couldn't become too comfortable or complacent or else they'd soon become dead. And as to distractions, well, books were not really all that popular among demons. He owned more than anyone else around, and the collection had taken a lot longer to build than it took to read.
So he found other things to keep him from dwelling on some of the ugly realities vying for his attention. But that meant getting involved, like it or not.
He probably shouldn't have gone along with Hualing on her invasion, even though she'd ordered him to. It was courting trouble to even look upon the protagonist. And yet, he couldn't resist.
Shaking such thoughts away, Shen Yuan pursued his next distraction. He headed for the fortress stables.
Demons mostly did not ride, and what they rode was not any normal type of horse. But his father kept a grand carriage for making processions. Until recently, that carriage had been pulled by decently strong slaves, who were themselves not treated much better than beasts of burden. Shen Yuan was no moral paragon but he found the situation intolerable, so over the past several years he had painstakingly trained some of the Dark Sea Hippo Oxen that ranged in the marshes to the southeast, and then convinced his father to give the slaves to Hualing and use the trained oxen to pull his grand carriage instead. The beasts looked a lot more impressive, and his sister was content to have big demons move her furniture and look cool whenever they flanked her on her diplomatic trips. Such trips were increasingly frequent, supposedly to secure her a good match.
Not that his sister actually put any sincere effort into that goal. Shen Yuan had no worries about Hualing being married off, and wouldn't have worried even if she'd shown the slightest interest in the prospect. She just went along with it because it let her take vacations away from their father.
The downside to this arrangement, however, was that the Dark Sea Hippo Oxen only ever really seemed to listen to Shen Yuan. He'd tried to instruct some of the servants in their care, but it was slow going. He wasn't sure if it was just the nature of the servants he'd been assigned or if all demons struggled with the concept of domesticated livestock, or if they just didn't want the job and knew he wouldn't have them executed for failing, but the end result was that he'd mostly put them in charge of cleaning the stalls and did everything else himself. Luckily the big beasts were pretty self-sufficient, as long as there was a comfortable place to sleep and food to eat they came back to the stables, and if they didn't then Shen Yuan needed to only go out with a bell and some treats and eventually they'd come back to him.
The Hippo Oxen had broad backs that could easily carry ten of him. Shen Yuan opened the gate from the stables to let them out, checking first that the dust storm had indeed passed over them, and then hopped up on the biggest to ride out. The two stable servants scattered as if they feared being trampled, even though there was plenty of room.
He sprawled like he was on a comfortable couch as the herd set out, watching the oxen to make certain none were limping or showing signs of discomfort. They'd all been stuck in a thicket of carnivorous dragon plants when he'd first found them, struggling and miserable as they slowly suffocated in the relentless vines. It had taken some doing to get them out, but they'd each made a good recovery, and being demonic beasts they were especially durable. The only real worry was if someone in the fortress tried to poison them or something, but so far no one had dared to.
The air tasted dry and the wind carried grit over to them. After a while Shen Yuan drew one of his war fans and waved it, channeling a thread of demonic qi into the motion. The gust cleared the air ahead of them. Senior Hippo Ox grunted in approval, while a couple of the younger ones made the earth shake as they hopped happily up and down and uncovered a big patch of mud.
That was his cue to get down!
He slid off of Senior Hippo Ox's back and moved away, letting the big beasts go splash around in the fresh mud pit and forage among the vibrant plants at the bank. When he was satisfied that nothing really dangerous was around, he took a seat on a nearby patch of earth and pulled some drawing tools and paper from his storage sleeve.
He mixed some crude ink (his own recipe), and then he sketched the oxen. It was his millionth attempt, and he'd definitely been no artist before his rebirth, but he thought he was getting better. He'd abandoned trying to make realistic looking renderings and instead focused on stylized versions, letting the kinds of strokes he could make with a simple brush and limited pigments dictate the form of his illustrations. After a while a Soul Biting Blister Beetle wandered onto a nearby rock and began doing one of its territorial dances.
Since Shen Yuan was still sat a safe distance from its venomous spittle attack, he switched subjects and started drawing the beetle instead.
He stayed out until he lost the good light. Another storm was threatening on the horizon. He didn't even need to call the oxen, as they'd also had their fill of the mud pit. This time he walked, of course, not interested in getting himself covered in mud as well. When they got back to the stables he left the oxen be; in the morning the mud would be dry and flaking and easier to clean off, and as he'd learned, they preferred it that way.
He was out of daylight by then, and with a deep internal sigh he headed back to the inner corridors of the fortress to try and escape to his room.
The main banquet hall was lit, sconces bright against the dark walls of the inner chambers, with smokeless fires burning blue, purple, orange, and black. Demons allegedly didn't really make a lot of artistic craft items in the way that humans did, and yet, they did still make a lot of art. Fires and lights were common displays, as were manifestations of qi. Jade was hard to come by, and wood was mostly reserved for structural uses, but bone carvings and chimes were common. Since demons healed quickly, piercings and tattoos didn't last as long as on humans, but that just meant they were constantly being refreshed or redesigned. Textile work in the demonic realms was often ludicrously difficult, due to a lack of supplies and stable supply chains, which meant that clothing was made to last as long as possible and imbued with as much protection as possible.
But, clothing was uh... pretty scarce. Especially in these warmer climates.
Shen Yuan averted his gaze from the nude demons settled in the banquet hall, and the ones who were nearly nude, the vast expanse of skin that he'd never entirely gotten used to. Men and women alike, no less! Hualing was no exception, lounging topless at the main table while she regaled some of their father's people with accounts of her singular victory at Cang Qiong. Next to her, a pair of her lackeys were busily doing one another's tattoos; baring their teeth and laughing through the pain.
"Didi!" she called, and he cursed that she'd caught sight of him. "Come join us!"
"No thanks!" he called back.
"Get over here!"
There was enough snap in her tone to know that she meant it. Kissing his hopes and dreams of a quiet evening goodbye, Shen Yuan reluctantly turned and headed into the hall.
At least their father wasn't there. Small mercies. He wouldn't be back from his latest campaign for a while yet, according to Hualing's own projections. She would know better than him, given that she was the favorite and held their father's ear, for all that she seemed to loathe every minute spent in his company.
Why couldn't she loathe every minute spent in Shen Yuan's company?
Oh right. Because he didn't want her future husband to kill him.
Hualing nodded approvingly as he navigated the minefield of the banquet hall and settled onto a cushion that was, with some shoving, cleared next to his sister. She plonked an empty bowl beside him, and he dutifully filled it with wine for her. Demon wines mostly tasted like either blood or vinegar, but their father had particular tastes for fruit wines from the human realm, so Shen Yuan poured some for himself as well. It wouldn't get him drunk the way that a demon wine would, but that was better off anyway. And it almost tasted nice.
"I was just telling everyone about my fight," Hualing said, as if her voice hadn't carried well beyond the banquet hall.
"You did well," he assured her, even though he honestly thought her match was idiotic. She did win it, though, somehow. Everyone agreed on that point anyway, even the other side, so it had to be true.
"Of course, of course!" Hualing agreed, thumping a fist over one of her breasts. "I'm the greatest of our generation! But what the hell was with your fight? Everyone's talking about it, even more than mine! It's a bigger mystery how you lost than how I won."
She sounded displeased with that. Of course she is, he thought. She wants them all praising her, not wondering about her weird brother's weird behavior.
That thought brought a nostalgic feeling, almost. His old meimei and Sha Hualing were like night and day, but he'd also used to overshadow his sister's accomplishments with bad news in that life. Not that he meant to do it, in either case.
He sighed, and accepted that he wasn't going to keep dodging her questions forever. He probably wasn't even supposed to. She should be getting interested in Luo Binghe around now, shouldn't she? Well she'd laid eyes on him so of course that would be the case. As long as he kept the attention there, it would only further the inevitable bond between the protagonist and his future wife.
"Didn't you notice? That disciple was really strong," he said.
Sha Hualing made a face at him. It wasn't a dreamy, 'oh yes he was' sort of face at all.
"You had him beat in the first few minutes."
"He wasn't really fighting in the first few minutes."
"But since when do you care about fighting? You've never been eager to see someone's 'potential' before! Not even mine!"
Hualing pouted, as if recollecting their own past matches. Shen Yuan would rather forget those. They were so unpleasant. He couldn't win, but he also couldn't lose so badly that his own sister killed him. It was like walking a tightrope covered in ice on a dark winter night. He was glad they were past the age where their father would throw them into a pit together and demand they prove that they were worth feeding and housing by ripping into one another until he was satisfied.
"I was just curious," he settled for saying. "Something about him was unlike the other humans."
"Unlike them how?" Hualing narrowed her eyes. But she looked like she was considering it.
"If I could easily say what it was, I wouldn't have tested it by challenging him," he bullshitted, quite reasonably.
"Hmm."
"I was right, though. He did beat me. He had a lot of power. That piece of shit master of his just didn't teach him anything about using it."
For some reason that comment made Hualing grin at him.
"You thought the Xiu Ya sword was a piece of shit?" she latched upon, amused. "I think that one's ranked second in the Cang Qiong hierarchy, isn't he one of their strongest?"
"Not necessarily. His peak has the second most authority, but the Bai Zhan War God is surely stronger," he said. Then he hesitated. Liu Qingge would be dead now, wouldn't he? Murdered by Shen Qingqiu. What a waste...
Sha Hualing shrugged.
"He still must be tough, though. Surely they only make the strongest ones successors? How else would they hold onto their power?"
"Lots of ways. Money, family connections, vital skills that the others can't replicate... but he did seem pretty strong, even if he had to use underhanded tactics."
"That's because the demon race is always superior! Even the strongest humans can't win otherwise!" Sha Hualing announced, and cheers went up.
Shen Yuan finished his wine.
"Good talk, I'll be going now," he tried, but Hualing rolled her eyes and yanked him down into the seat again before he could go, and forced him to endure more 'celebrating'.
The sky was fully dark by the time Shen Yuan managed to escape. Despite his having lost his match, he luckily didn't get dragged too hard by the others at the banquet. Maybe because only Hualing had won, or maybe because it was kind of a dull sport to try and make him feel bad over things that he didn't care about. He ended up drinking most of the fruit wine and nodding along to his sister's boasting before finally fleeing back to his room, and by then he was tired enough that he only stripped and fell into his bed, and was soon unconscious.
"Hmph. Took you long enough!"
Shen Yuan blinked himself to awareness, and found that he was standing back at the pavilion on Qiong Ding Peak. Or rather, that this was what the dream around him looked like at the moment. He knew the signs quite well, after looking after Meng Mo for this long. Contrary to his sleeping state, Shen Yuan was back to wearing the same outfit he'd worn during the invasion, complete with his weapons and all.
Near to him stood a projection of the dream demon; Meng Mo had the look of an esteemed elder, well-dressed and meticulously groomed, in a fashion that hadn't been seen in the demon realms since before the last big war with the human realms. He stroked narrow fingers through his white beard.
Shen Yuan made a face.
"What? Why am I here?" he protested. "I thought you were going to investigate Luo Binghe?"
"Is that his name?" Meng Mo groused. "You didn't give me much to work with!"
"I didn't think the Esteemed Elder Dream Demon needed much," Shen Yuan countered, irritated enough to let his distaste show. Just why was he being involved?! He didn't want the protagonist associating him with an awful nightmare! Shoo!
"I don't," Meng Mo snapped. "Insolent brat. You'd think you'd show a little more appreciation for the lengths I'm willing to go through at your say-so. If I'm going to delve into this random human's mind, I need to know what I'm looking for. I'm not going to waste energy all night just rooting around when there's probably nothing to find!"
Shen Yuan wanted to protest. Wasn't that what the dream demon had done in the novel? Why were the rules different if Shen Yuan asked him to do something instead of Sha Hualing? You shitty old bastard, this poor transmigrator is doing you a favor! Don't you realize that the protagonist is your last hope of living as anything other than some random decor item? That he's going to be your greatest student that you can pass all your teachings onto? A host with enough power that he can sustain your existence indefinitely?
"Just do it yourself," he protested.
Meng Mo glared.
"If it's not worth your time, why should it be worth mine? Useless."
The dream started to dissipate. Shen Yuan raised a hand.
"Okay, wait, stop. It's definitely worth the time," he declared. At the older demon's skeptical expression, he snapped. "Why are you being so difficult? Haven't I taken care of you all this while? And when have I ever led you astray? What an ingrate, do you want to spend the rest of your existence depending on me to keep you around? At this rate I'm going to get tired of you and let you rot in a cupboard 'till all your energy runs out!"
"You wouldn't dare!"
"Your statue is ugly!"
"It is art! High art! Like the kind not seen in this world for centuries!"
"Itâs trash."
"You-!"
Meng Mo paused. For a moment Shen Yuan thought that he'd legitimately run out of comebacks, and was a bit concerned. He'd never seen that happen before. But when he opened his mouth, the elder raised a hand and stopped him. His dark eyes narrowed. Then the dream around them began to change, shifting like something out of Inception or a high-end video game. The Qiong Ding pavilion disappeared, stone by stone, to be replaced with the structures and buildings of a rundown city street. Not a modern street, thankfully, not something like the kind from Shen Yuan's past life, but one that would be perfectly at home in Proud Immortal Demon Way.
"Found him," Meng Mo murmured.
So he had been looking. Maybe he genuinely did struggle to pinpoint Luo Binghe this time, for some reason, and brought in Shen Yuan's memories of the invasion to help. He felt a bit chagrined at that. True, Meng Mo didn't seem to need much to try and stalk a victim, but he probably hadn't given as much detailed information as the Sha Hualing of the novel had when he tried to put him onto the protagonist. After all, Sha Hualing would have been gushing like a lovestruck girl, not calmly and objectively explaining the situation the way Shen Yuan had done.
A moment later, Meng Mo's appearance shifted to resemble one of the faceless NPCs that populated most dreams. This was a common trick of his for observing things without drawing notice -- just blend into the background like some other less-formed part of the dream.
Shen Yuan followed the direction of his gaze. Sure enough, he found himself looking at Luo Binghe. Ning Yingying was beside him, holding on to his arm.
Their gazes met.
The protagonist's eyes widened in recognition.
Then the dream faded away as Meng Mo unceremoniously booted Shen Yuan out of it. He wasn't sure if he felt more relieved or disappointed, though of course that was foolish. Like he said, it wasn't as if he wanted the protagonist to associate him with a nightmare!
But even with that mere glimpse, perhaps the damage had already been done?
Dear Meng Mo, haven't I done you a bunch of favors by now? Please go easy on that kid, don't give him such a harrowing trial that he blames me for all of this later on!

THINGS I NOTICED WHILE WATCHING BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE AGAIN:
This is a very Beetlebabes-centric post, so if you donât like the ship, please feel free to scroll away. <3
Beetlejuice cut Deloresâ ring finger off, and while it was originally a fun joke in the first movie, thereâs deep implications about that action when we look at it with the context of the second film. Beetlejuice attacked her after she betrayed him. Anyone would want to kill the person that poisoned them, but the fact that he took the time to find her finger and deliberately cut her ring finger off (and ONLY that finger) reflects how much that marriage meant to him. It also symbolizes that heâs effectively dissolving their marriage. Heâs cut off the physical representation of their love and taken the ring, which he tries to give to Lydia hundreds of years later. He held onto that ring for centuries in hopes of finding someone he deemed worthy of it.
He calls his dynamic with Lydia a long-distance relationship, which couldâve been a throwaway joke if not for the fact that when he clearly notices how hot Janet is, he never talks to her or gropes her like he did with Barbara prior to meeting Lydia. Keaton said BJ wouldnât be politically correct, so this isnât to reflect the current political climate, but rather to reflect BJâs motivations.
Beetlejuice was jobless at the start of the first movie, and in thirty years heâs built a company for his bio-exorcisms. Coupled with the picture of Lydia on his desk, itâs possible he did this to impress her. After all, sheâs famous and rich now. BJâs gotta step it up, yâknow?
Probably overheard the convo between Lydia and Rory and deliberately bugged her at that time, because if he can possess the phone or whatever, he can probably use it to eavesdrop. This can be further supported by how he got rid of the influencers but kept the people that mattered to Lydia presentâDelia and Astrid.
We can also assume he overheard the conversation where Lydia said that Rory loves her and that has to be enough because of the panning to a gravestone. BJ has a special fascination with graveyards, even tiny model ones. If he did overhear them, it explains why he used the truth serum on Rory. Heâs testing him. He wants to see if this guy actually loves Lydia or if heâs using her, and then he gives Lydia the means to exact revenge on Rory rather than doing anything himself.
Lydia spends half the movie being strong -armed into a marriage with Rory, and in a way, itâs reminiscent of the first movieâs marriage attempt. Rory dangles their âloveâ in front of her like a carrot, and if she doesnât want to be alone, she has to accept his manipulation and agree to get married. Yet she immediately offers it to Beetlejuice, only sounding annoyed rather than terrified. And the movie spends a lot of time proving that BJ has sincere motives this time around, whereas Rory doesnât. It pushes an underlying message that if one of these guys is going to be a better choice, itâll be BJ.
Despite Lydia having a tendency to back out of their deals, he still helps her first. He prioritizes saving Astrid even before finding his ârunaway brideâ again.
Casually calls Lydia the love of his life, looks so sincere when he says heâll make her so happy. Clearly spent those 30 years planning that dream-dance sequence.
He doesnât seem to care that Lydiaâs sending him away. That coupled with the end scene illustrates how confident he is this time around. Lydia is still stuck with him, and even if he didnât get her this time, he will eventually. But he also knows how spooked she is by marriage after being a snoop, so itâs possible that heâs just taking it slow on purpose.
In conclusion: Beetlejuice genuinely does want to be with Lydia and care about her. His feelings have evolved beyond permanent residence in the mortal world. If anything, if he still wants that, itâs so he can be by her side.

Bitty Birbs and Bittiest Birb Part 34
Masterpost Not read over, I can feel a migraine trying hard to start, so please no editing or concrit!
âWhy are we shoved into Jasonâs apartment again?â Duke asked.
âBecause it was mine or Dickâs,â Jason grumbled. He rebalanced Lian in his arms so that he could lean over and place the tray of fruit on the coffee table.
âAnd so Jasonâs it is!â Duke agreed quickly.
âHey! My place is fine,â Dick groused. âIâm not eighteen anymore. I know how to keep a place now.â
Everyone else quickly filled their mouths with a piece of fruit.
Cass was the first to swallow and clear her throat. âDamian?â
âDamian and Tim are too attached to Danny,â Jason explained.
Tim froze. âUh, guys, Iâm right here?â
âYep!â Dick chirped. âBut you like answers enough to go against your own emotions.â
ââŠyeah, okay, fine, fair,â Tim sighed and slumped back into the chair he had claimed. âSo this is about Danny?â
âI donât trust him,â Jason said bluntly as he wiped some juice from Lianâs chin.
âYou donât trust him?â Tim repeated.
Jason gestured to Tim. âSee! Exactly that!â
âExactly what?â Tim asked.
âTim, I say this with a least some love, but you are the most paranoid bastardââ
âPretty sure Jack was actually my father,â Tim interrupted.
âYeah, but have you ever actually tested your DNA against Bruceâs?â Duke asked.
âWhat?â Tim, Dick, and Steph all asked back, with varying degrees of confusion.
âAnyways,â Jason continued insistently. âTim is the most paranoid bastard Iâve ever met short of Bruce and he just trusts Danny.â
Tim opened his mouth to argue and then closed it with a snap, which really said everything.
Jason tried not to smirk. âBruce started dating Danny and he told us. He told us himself. Has he ever just come out and told us about anyone he was dating before?â
âMaybe heâs learned?â Duke offered and then wilted under the dubious stares. âI mean, itâs just that he has been really committed to his therapy. Heâs even trying to talk me into going.â
âDonât buy it,â Jason said.
Dick frowned at him. âBruce going to therapy?â
âNo, dicktstick, donât tell Roy I said that honey,â Jason added to Lian as an aside. âI donât think that itâs just from therapy. Thereâs something weird about Danny and itâs effecting people.â
âBird,â Cass pointed out with a wiggle of an apple slice. She handed it to Tim who sighed but ate it obediently.
Jason rolled his eyes. âBeyond the bird thing.â
âBut he doesnât want to be,â Tim said. He shrugged when everyone looked at him. âWeird, that is. He doesnât want to be weird. You all werenât there. When he protected me and Damian he was so scared of transforming. He was scared of what was happening to him, but he was more scared what Damian and I would think of him. But he still changed to protect us. He became what he fears for us. So, yeah, I know heâs weird and of course I have questions but I guess Iâm just⊠Iâm aware how much pressing could hurt him and I donât want to do that, not when he put a lot at risk to protect us.â
There was quiet and then Dick cooed, âOh my god, is little Timmy growing up?â
Tim sighed and flicked his oldest brother off.
The worst part was, is that Jason got not wanting to be the freak that life made you. That didnât mean Danny was okay though. âWhat about the language? That might be LOA related.â
âSee, I donât think it is,â Tim argued. âAnd I donât think that because of Dukeâs reaction.â
âMine? Oh.â Duke looked thoughtful. âBut is it that much better if itâs⊠godly?â
âWe trust you,â Steph pointed out simply. âAnd youâre like, almost max fuckery there.â
âSteph!â Jason snapped.
Stephanie cringed. âSorry! Thatâs an adult word, Lian.â
Jason sighed and held Lian up into the air. She gave a giggling squeal.
âYou are going to be the most foul mouthed kindergarten and Roy is going to despair, yes he is,â Jason cooed.
âAdorable dad Jason aside,â Steph said, âif we accept Duke, which of course we love our cinnamon roll, then thereâs no reason not to accept Danny if heâs godly. Yeah, sure, there are bad gods, but he hasnât done anything bad. Like, the dude is working on producing water filtration systems for cheap home use. And that was what he was doing before he was even on our radar. That doesnât scream evil to me, and I should know. I dated Tim.â
âWhat theâer, fish,â Tim said, shooting a glance at Lian. âIs it beat on Tim day or something?â
Jason grinned. âOh Timmy, thatâs every day.â
Tim bared his teeth back in a soundless snarl. âIf you werenât holding my niece right nowâŠâ
Jason kissed Lian on the forehead. âWhoâs a good human shield? Yes, you are!â The ringing of Jasonâs phone kept him from doting on his not-daughter any further. He fished it out of his back pocket and checked the name before answering it. âWhatâs up?â
âHi snookems, how are you?â Roy asked.
âWell if you call me that one more time Iâll have to shoot you, soâŠâ Jason let that trail off into clear implication.
âRight. Well, this job is bigger than I thought it would be, so how do you feel playing back-up?â Roy asked.
âYou left Lian with me,â Jason pointed out.
âSo?â Roy asked, obviously slightly distracted. âGo drop her off with Bruce and head out from there. You know he loves any chance to babysit her.â
âDannyâs still there,â Jason said. âDemon brat hasnât let him leave yet.â
âSo?â Roy repeated. âEveryone but you likes the dude. And Lian is a great judge of character. If she bites him you know that heâs bad news and you can hold it over everyone elseâs head.â
âRoyâŠâ
âNope! See you in an hour, max!â He hung up the phone before Roy could say anything else.
âSo,â Dick said with a little smirk. âBack to the Manor then?â

not beta read
A complex flurry of emotions whirled around in his chest, thoughts exchanging between this is good and this is very bad. One wrong move and he could destroy it all, or he could actually make something real out of it.
It was equally thrilling and terrifying.
He remembered Danaâs eyes on his back as he left on time, skipping out right after giving report to Abbot, after avoiding her questions for over an hour. The curious eyebrow raise from Langdon as McKay had whispered something to him, or the way Princess hovered while you were still present. The way Jack so clearly looked like he wanted to say something, no doubt hearing something in passing from Dana, or the rumor mill buzzing through the hall.
They only got more obvious as the weekend got closer.
âYouâve been leaving consistently on-time recently, boss. Even Abbot noticed.â Dana said with a quirked brow and a knowing smile, âHave anything to do with that pretty girl in here earlier this week?â
âI have no idea what youâre talking about.â He lied smoothly, âWhat girl?â
Dana laughed. âThe one you rolled right over McKay to help a few weeks ago? A simple stitch job and you took it. Must be special. Even got her back right away to get them taken out.â
Michael hummed, already knowing that Dana was likely seeing right through him. âWasnât Gloria just down here explaining satisfaction scores? You know, making sure each patient is seen and heard.â
âWith just her?â
He tried to temper the blush, âWas it? Canât remember everyone Iâve helped.â He glanced from his computer screen to the opening ambulance doors. âOh, look at that. Gotta go!â
âSaved by the bell!â Dana called after him.
Langdon approached him later, bouncing on the balls of his feet, hands in his pockets. They had just stabilized a patient and were waiting for Garcia to come and consult.
Langdon blew out a puff of air, âSo that woman was totally checking you out the other day.â
Barely sparing him a glance, Michael removed his gloves, âThat so?â
âTotally!â Langdon told him eagerly, before flickering his eyes across his face, âThere was something there.â
Michael hummed indifferently.
McKay piped up from the side, âCalled her a VIP, if I remember right.â
It was hard to miss the way Perlah and Princess exchanged a glance.
âCome get me when Garcia gets here.â He said, departing from the trauma room looking for something to busy his hands â or just keep everyone from asking any more questions. The gossip was never likely to stop, but he hated being the center of it.
It seemed like things never stayed quiet long, since Dana found him sometime later, crossing her arms across her chest.
âVIP, huh?â
Michael let out a long sigh, glancing at the clock and hoping his shift would end already.
â
Michael asked to pick you up, and you accepted easily, pacing around your apartment in heels and the dress you had borrowed from Erin. You half wished you had been able to drive yourself, distract your mind with music or some random radio show, and the lull of Pittsburgh traffic.
He arrived a few minutes early, and knocked on your door, and your heart lurched into your throat. It took a few beats of your heart to steady yourself. It was only Michael.
But now feelings are known and there is no more hiding.
Perhaps that was a good thing.
When you opened the door, he was standing there with a bashful smile and flowers. Lavender, purple hyacinth, and babyâs-breath with green foliage holding it all together. You momentarily forgot to breathe, looking from the flowers in his hands then to his face, face lax with dumb disbelief â a thousand words swirling in your mind immediately going silent.
âYou got me flowers.â You said, more so from shock rather than a statement of fact.
âI got you flowers.â He said, trying to gauge your reaction. âI wanted this to be proper, but I havenât been on a date in foreverââ
âTheyâre beautiful.â You breathed out, ignoring the storm in your chest. âNo oneâs ever gotten me flowers before.â
Surprise crossed his face momentarily. âThatâs a shame. You definitely deserve them.â
A warmth rose to your cheeks, before moving to the side, âCome in. Iâll get a vase.â
Do I own a vase?
He stepped into the apartment, handing the flowers over, watching as the smile lit up your features. You inhaled the scent of them, closing your eyes to savor it. They smelled sweet, with the calming aroma from the lavender, and you sighed in contentment.
âYou look beautiful.â
You stopped, looking at him, ignoring the way your ears grew hot, âThank you. You lookââ
Grey chinos with a light tan cardigan buttoned over a white shirt. His long, dark grey woolen coat was left unbuttoned, looking effortlessly in the area between elegant and casual. A carefree sophistication that even in Erinâs expensive dress you felt out of place. His beard was trimmed neatly, hair combed carefully, with a smile that clouded your thoughts.
ââreally good.â
He blushed.
You moved into the kitchen while Michael stayed in the tiny foyer, hands in his pockets. You grabbed a pitcher to fill with water, unable to quickly find a vase. The water pitcher would do.
On the drive, you had such an urge to grab his hand. The sight of him with one hand on the wheel, the other loosely hanging off the bottom of it, a relaxation seeping from his posture, made your mind lurch into overdrive. You felt rigid beside him, thinking of a hundred thousand things, overthinking anything you could say â should say â that would have been commonplace for any normal first date.
But you already knew those things.
The silence was riddled with tension, thick and unchecked. The way his fingers flexed on the steering wheel, or lingered when he turned the volume up or down, eyes not-so-subtly looking over at you periodically. Each time it felt like he was stoking a fire low in your belly.
He opened his mouth to trade small talk until you arrived at the restaurant, and the low timbre of his voice cooled the anxiety in your chest and fanned the flames in your abdomen. You felt far too hot in your coat, buzzing with anticipation, with nerves, with wanting.
Peregrin was an elevated, classic, modernized eatery, that felt mildly out of place on the street corner â decorated in fairy lights, hues of blue and grey, and sharp, deliberate angles. It had overpriced appetizers and an overhyped atmosphere, but everything you had heard about the food had been good things.
Your table was ready when you walked in, a few minutes early for your reservation, and you absorbed the interior quickly. Refurbished dark wood floors, light cream walls, a brick wall accented on the far wall, copper fixtures and large windows overlooking the Allegheny River.
The waitress eyed you when she arrived to take the drink order, but was discreet in her assessment. The feeling of being criticized hit you like a freight-train. Once upon a time, you would have thought the same, questioned the girl's sanity or the man's intentions â but now you sat knowing both. As big of an age gap as it was should have given you more pause than it did, but you had already danced around the edge of it long enough. You had run far enough, and you were tired of allowing your own feelings coming second place to those around you.
You tuned it all out. You had to. You had to.
You smiled at him, âIâve been looking forward to this.â
Relief flooded his face, looking back at you. âI have too.â
You both knew you were not talking about the food.
âI hope work was not too chaotic this week?â You ventured, opening the menu.
He chuckled lightly, âEveryoneâs been pestering me about the mysterious girl all week.â
Your face warmed, âOh no, I didnât cause too much of a stir, did I?â
âI think I created it myself,â he said, pulling out his glasses, âwasnât exactly as subtle as I would have liked to be when you came in.â
You paused long enough, staring at him, for Michael to look up over his frames at you. Warmth pooled lower and you took a sip of your ice water to try to snuff it.
âWasnât my intention.â You said tightly, âDidnât know that was the hospital you worked at.â
âIâm glad you did.â His lips dipped momentarily. âNot that you got hurt, butââ
âYeah, me too.â You offered a smile, bringing your wild thoughts to heel.
He smiled, looking back at the menu, âHowâre your classes going?â
âGood, actually. Still busy trying to stay on top of everything, but itâs good.â
He rubbed his hand along his beard, the light catching several of the greys, âYou know, Iâd like to say somethingâŠabout thatâŠwithout being too forward.â
You raised a careful eyebrow, your lungs stalling.
âIâŠstill want to help you.â Michael said, brown eyes watching you intently before caving and looking back to the menu. âWith school, your bills.â
âMichaelââ
âI know, I know.â He said quickly, âNo ulterior motives. You wouldnât owe me anything. Just because I want to. Because I have more than the means to do so.â
You hoped the dim lighting did not give away the way you flustered. âThatâsâI donât thinkâI canât accept that. ItâsâŠnot right. I donât want to use you.â
âYou wouldnât be.â He assured, one side of his lips quirking up. âIâm offering.â
You frowned, âIt just reminds me of what you said; that I wouldnât be here unless you were paying me. Iâthatâs not what I want you to think. Thatâs not how I want to feel.â
Michaelâs tiny smile disappeared, and he just stared at you, gears clearly turning over in his head. He opened his mouth, but the waitress returned to take your order, interrupting him. Scribbling down on her notepad completely unaware â or just unfazed â by the tension now collecting at the table.
When she departed, you were both silent.
You chewed your lip and avoided his eyes.
âIâm sorry I made you feel that way.â He finally said, removing his glasses to rub his eyes. âI donât feel that way about it. I know you would be here without it.â
âAre you sure? I feel like money will just complicate this again.â You met his gaze. âI donât want to burden this with money, or insecurities, while weâre still figuring it out.â
Michael nodded in what you hoped was understanding. âYouâre right, but itâs a standing offer. If you ever need it, itâs there.â
You let out a long breath, âThank you.â
He sipped the white wine he had chosen for you both, glancing out the window at the sunset.
Part of you felt endeared that he still wanted to help out, but the money felt like an unnecessary weight to add to your shoulders. You did not want to hinder the relationship budding between you, or give him any reason to second guess your intentions.
âIâm glad weâre here.â Michael told you, offering a smile.
âI am too.â You grabbed your wine glass and raised it. âTo second chances?â
He clinked his glass with yours and grinned.
â
When the food arrived, you were trading light banter. It felt easy, uncomplicated, despite the warm feelings invading your chest and working their way to your heart. You tried to take a breath, slow it all down, but they thrummed beneath the surface. He was polite, except the occasional way his eyes took you in â eyes lingering over the exposed bit of skin of your chest that the dress made obvious, wandering slowly back up to your eyes.
Those eyes were going to set you on fire.
You laughed, âThat reminds me of when we were all on lockdownââ
Michael grew silent, a faraway look in his eyes, completely unaware of the rest of your sentence, or the way you stopped short.
â...you with me?â You asked softly, running your fingers along his hand until you were holding it. âIâm sorry, I didnât really realize how much the pandemic affected you.â
He blinked rapidly at you, before trying to shrug it off, clearing his throat. âIt usually doesnât.â
âI know it took its toll on the healthcare system, I wasnât trying to make light of it.â You told him earnestly. âDo you want to talk about it?â
âI lost my mentor.â He said quietly, looking down at his food. âIt was the hardest thing Iâve ever had to do. I had to make a choice, and it didnât end up really mattering.â
You squeezed his hand. âIâm really sorry. Adamson? Tell me about him.â
Michael looked up at the sound of the name, momentarily surprised by you remembering it.
âHe was a force. Reliable. Took me under his wing not long after my residency and showed me just about everything I know. He always knew what to say, a trait I wish I had.â
You nodded along.
âGreat doctor, even better man.â
âI can see how much you admired him. How long since he passed?â
âThree years about two months ago.â He said.
âIâve never met him, but I donât think he would want you to carry it with you like this. You said last week that it was for a little girl, and I know she didnât make it either, but Iâm sure he wouldâve wanted you to try. If he was as great a man as you say, I doubt heâd want you to feel guilty over it. If he showed you everything you know, then surely the decision you made would have been the same one he would have.â
The words hung heavy in the air â and Michaelâs eyebrows scrunched together while he digested them. He squeezed your hand tightly and a tear slipped from his eye.
â...thank you.â It was quiet. It was raw. It was unmasked.
You brushed your thumb over his knuckles and smiled softly.
He wiped away the tear quickly and cleared his throat, âSo you said school was almost done. Is this your last semester?â
âYeah, just have to finish out my classes, and then Iâll be graduating in two months.â
âDamn, youâre almost done.â
You moved your hand from his back to your lap, twisting a bit of pasta onto your fork. âI try not to count down the days. But then Iâll have to get my certification, then Iâll finally be a CPA.â
His smile was easy, âCongratulations.â
âI havenât graduated yet.â But your lips moved upwards anyway.
âYouâve put in a lot of hard work, you should be proud of yourself.â
Your cheeks burned, âThank you.â
The check came, and you only tried to glance at it once before you reined the thoughts in. He grabbed your hand when you got up from the table, his touch equally holding you steady and sending your thoughts back into a whirlwind. Heat had your heart racing, thoughts without any pure intention slipping in and making you blush deeper.
You intertwined your fingers instead of saying anything.
In the car, the conversation continued easily, though Michael reached for your hand again and held it throughout the drive. It felt like pieces were slotting into place, and it felt good to not pretend. To allow yourself to feel the feeling coiling around your heart. To accept his attention, his intention, without feeling like there was anything hindering you.
When they arrived at your building, he got out to walk you up. You went to protest, but the warmth was back rolling around in your stomach and you closed her mouth. Instead, an excitement was building.
He spoke first when you reached your door, âI had a really good time tonight.â
âI did too.â You were grinning. âThank you for our first official date.â
He smiled, dark brown eyes flickering to your lips and back to your eyes. Your breathing picked up to keep up with your racing heart, and you glanced at his mouth. When your eyes returned to his, he was already leaning in.
You accepted the kiss eagerly, curling one hand around the front of his coat, the other moving to his hair. He took the invitation, bringing a hand to your cheek and pulling you closer, pressing his other hand to the small of your back.
Something bloomed deep in your chest, and you savored the taste of him while you could. He pulled back before it delved any deeper, though he held you still against him.
âGoodnight,â
âGoodnight, Michael.â
There was a fear of being known, but you were both finally letting the light in.

So one of the cool and interesting ways âSteven Universeâ used to try and balance being both a series of 11-minutes episodes that each have their own satisfying emotional resolution and being an overarching story with complicated character arcs that take multiple seasons to resolve is the⊠Iâm going to call it the âNot Quite Right Lessonâ episodes. Episodes where a character kinda learns a Very Important Lesson⊠but a more careful and retrospective look at the situation shows that what they learned is not Quite the Right Thing for them. They internalized something in that adventure which just ended up causing more Emotional Troubles for themselves farther down the line.
âThe Testâ is the most classic example.Â
As a standalone thing, itâs just a sweet episode about Steven learning to accept that his caretakers are also flawed and confused and figuring this shit up as theyâre going along just like he is, and then doing a nice thing for their sake.
But looking back at this episode, it is quite obviously the nadir of Steven appointing himself as the Family Therapist and repressing all of his problems so he could better help the Gemsâ with theirs. Like, there have been some early warning signs for this Complex, but this episode is the one that really cemented that idea in his mind and probably the reason it took him like the Entire Rest of the Show Including a Post-Finale Season to really untangle it.
But⊠also, Iâve been thinking a lot about the episode right after that, âFuture Visionâ. I think itâs also a very important âNot Quite Right Lesson Episodeâ for the character of Garnet, and to some extent, the Crystal Gems as a whole. In many ways, it is to the CGs' character arcs' what 'the Test' is to Steven's.
So in this episode, Garnet reveals to Steven the fact that she has Future Vision. She hoped that telling Steven a little bit more about herself and being honest with him will lead to a greater understanding and a greater bond between them⊠but it backfired. It just led Steven to become a total paranoid, terrified wreck stuck in a total existential crisis.
And it seems like the lesson Garnet learned is that⊠she shouldâve never taken that risk at all. That it wouldâve been better for everyone if she just kept Steven ignorant of the truth forever.
Extremely reinforced with the ending of the episode, where Garnet chooses to once again hide an uncomfortable truth (that he just came very close to dying again) from Steven, for the sake of his own âpeace of mindâ.
So, like, the Gems were already hiding uncomfortable truths from Steven since day one. âIf you could only know what we really areâ and all of that. But I think⊠With the actual truth of Homeworld encroaching on them more and more at this point of the story arc, this wouldâve been a great time for the Gems to reconsider their attitude and actually Explain to Steven What the Hell is Going On.Â
But instead, I think Garnet saw the events of âFuture Visionâ as a reinforcement of the idea that thereâs just some things Steven is Better Off Not Knowing. Actually being frank with him about Homeworld and the Diamonds and the War right there and then, that would have just overwhelmed Steven with fears and worries and wouldâve ended up doing nothing but hurting him. And Garnet canât accept that possibility, not again.
And so, Garnet, alongside Amethyst and Pearl, keep all these truths from Steven as long as possible. Only revealing bits of information when they have to. For Amethyst itâs about her emotionally-evasive attitude (also, she legit doesnât know all of that stuff herself). For Pearl itâs about how she learned to romanticize Roseâs own fucked-up obsession with secrets. For Garnet, with her usually very direct attitude and preference for the most straightforward solutions, I think itâs very much the events of âFuture Visionâ that were still playing in her head every time she had the choice to actually Explain something to Steven and decided not to.Â
But that, indeed, was Not Quite the Right Lesson. While being bluntly and directly told by Garnet all about the Many Ways He Could Die caused Steven to go into an anxiety spiral and an existential crisis for an episode - the way the Gems have been consistently secretive and evasive with Steven ended up causing him so much more emotional grief to him in the long run. As all of these secrets ended up revealed to him in the most surprising, dramatic and traumatizing way possible.
And the secretive attitudes ended up driving a wedge between Steven and the Gems.Â
Even after they promised to be more honest with him. Because the sight of Steven crying on the roof that day is one that Garnet can easily move away from. Because Garnetâs Not Quite Right Lesson was almost as difficult for her to unlearn as Stevenâs own.Â
But after the big confrontation at the start of the Zoo Arc, Garnet ended up being the most upfront about the Crystal Gemsâ history. Almost overeager to share what she knows about the past.
I mean also, again, Amethyst just has less to tell and Pearl is hiding secrets for reasons beyond her control - but I think itâs also important to consider from the perspective of Garnetâs arc.
Because the fallout of the Pink Diamond Reveal is very much centered around Garnet (or, well, Ruby and Sapphire). That was the Truth that was hidden from her 'for her own good'. And at the end of the day, despite all the grief that unveiling that truth has caused
It has also brought them, all of them, a lot closer.
There's a reason why 'the Truth' is Garnet's Final Missing Piece in the movie. It is as central to her character arc in the series as Lesbian AngstTM grief over lost love is to Pearl.
And still, some remnants of the Trauma of 'Future Vision' remained...
After all, even the very last episode of 'Future' was centered around the Gems once again trying to hide things from Steven (at that case, their turmoil about him leaving) for his own sake
Even though it once again just caused Steven a whole lot of grief.
It's maybe notable that at the end of this episode, Garnet, once again, tells Steven what's waiting for him in his Future...

You were always overshadowed by her, from childhood to adulthood.
To make matters worse, your birthdays were only a couple of days apart, yours coming before hers, because they were so close together your birthdays were always celebrated with her on her birthday.
It was like killing two birds with one stone. Every time you complained about wanting to celebrate your birthday on your actual date you were told it would be unfair for MC.
Your own family favoured her more than you, sometimes you wondered whether they even considered you their daughter at all.
But then there was Caleb. Him and MC were inseparable when you first met her, always there whenever you two hung out. Eventually, you got close to him as well and began to hang outside of your meet ups with MC.
He always made you feel like you were your own person, not a shadow of someone else.
Maybe that's why you fell for him.
Over the course of your childhood leading into your teenage years you were head over heels for him. Anyone could see it was obvious, and to certain people it bothered them, and you never noticed it until it was too late.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
Despite being the same age as MC, there was one thing you had that she didn't. You were far smarter than those your age, that gave you the ability to skip ahead a couple of grades so that you were at a level that was more to your capabilities.
But your brain could only get you so far in certain circumstances.
You were in the same class as Caleb, so naturally you ended up being closer to him than you were before. It also made admiring him much more easier.
But nothing was ever easy for you. All throughout your school years MC would always barge in on your study time with Caleb, always needing help with her assignments.
Normally, it wouldn't be a problem if it was a one off thing, but anytime you were over at their place to study with Caleb, it became a tutoring session for MC. It was even more annoying when she would constantly brush off your help, only wanting Caleb to help her.
"I don't understand it when you explain it. You're always using difficult words."
MC whined whenever you would offer to help, and each time Caleb would laugh and ruffle her hair.
"It's okay pip-squeak, I'll explain it in simpler terms."
Whenever he would say that, you could feel a pang in your chest.
It was during that time you and MC started to drift apart. You never really understood until that day.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
The day before graduation you finally chalked up the courage to confess to Caleb, and to your surprise he had accepted.
You had anticipated a rejection, knowing that he was busy with prepping to go to Skyhaven to attend the DAA, and unfortunately a lot of his free time was spent with MC.
He had always been protective of her, he also extended that to you as well. Although the way he treated you was different than the way he treated her.
The fleeting glances, the lingering touches, the nights he would spend with you when things were bad. How could you not fall for a man who cared for you like that.
You thought it was just your delusions that there was something between the two of you, but him accepting your confession made those delusions become reality.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
Everyone found you guys to be an unexpected couple, they always expected Caleb to be with MC with how good their chemistry was, but he viewed her simply as his little sister. One that he was a little too protective of but you never found that to be a sense of insecurity.
Or so you thought.
You and Caleb had been dating for almost 4 years now. It was a bit rough with both of you pursuing your academics and not having much time to spend together, but you guys always made it work.
Sometimes Caleb would bail on your dates because something came up with his studies, and you believed him. Who knew it was because someone felt a little jealous of you guys spending time together.
You had never realized that the dates Caleb bailed were because someone back in Linkon wanted attention, and who better to ask than Caleb!
You and MC and drifted apart, and after your graduation you barely ever saw her unless you were home for the holidays with Caleb. You chose to be the bigger person whenever she tried to monopolize Caleb's time, knowing he saw you more often than her, you let it slide.
Although, deep down it bothered you that she would always try to be the sole focus of his attention or when you guys went out on a date she just so happened to be there too, turning it into a group hangout where you felt like the third wheel.
Crazy right? Being a third wheel in your own relationship, guess you could cross that off on your bingo card.
It was your birthday tomorrow, you and Caleb had planned a nice day in with him cooking your favourites and then baking a cake together. Both of your schedules had finally managed to align and you guys had a week off, so you planned on crashing at his place for some much needed quality time.
With it being your final year, you guys were buried in back to back assignments and exams, the stress was high. Having the week off let you guys finally have a moment to breathe.
You packed your bags for the week before making your way over to Caleb's place, it wasn't too far of a drive. You made a quick stop at the grocery store, grabbing your favourite snacks and some groceries so you can make him some food while you're at his place.
By the time you got to Caleb's place the sun was just starting to set. You walked into his place, unlocking it with the spare keys he gave you.
It was quiet in his home.
"Hmm seems like Caleb isn't back from his classes yet."
You thought out loud. Putting away your stuff in his room you made your way to the kitchen, wanting to cook Caleb some dinner.
Like magic, as soon as you were done adding the finishing touches to dinner, Caleb walked in.
"Hi baby, it smells good in here."
Caleb greeted you, coming closer to place a kiss on your lips.
You quickly sent him away to go wash up while you set the table. Dinner was nice and peaceful, it was moments like these that made you feel happy. No distractions, just you and Caleb.
You guys spent most of dinner just catching up about all the stuff that happened while you guys were apart. Caleb insisted on cleaning up since you had cooked dinner, so you were sitting on the counter next to the sink as he washed the dishes.
You chatted away mindlessly, he listened with a smile on his face, throwing in a response here and there.
Once he was done, you were about to jump off the counter when Caleb slotted himself between your legs, hands coming to rest on your hips.
You immediately went quiet, the mood shifting to something more intimate. He leaned forward and pressed his forehead against yours, nuzzling your nose with his.
You guys stayed in that position for a little bit, enjoying the moment. The rest of the evening was spent with you guys just lounging around and catching up.
As you were getting ready for bed you could feel your stomach drop with anxiety for no reason, you brushed it off as just your nerves about sharing the same bed with Caleb after a while.
You shouldn't have brushed it off.
You got changed into one of his t-shirts and got into bed, Caleb slid in not too long after, wrapping his arms around your waist to pull you in closer to his chest.
âGoodnight.â
He said as he placed a kiss on the top of your head.
âGoodnight.â
You replied back, snuggling closer into his chest.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
It was around 4 am when you woke up to feeling an empty bed next to you.
Itâs still warm, Caleb must have just gotten up.
You got out of bed to go look for him. The moment you stepped out the your room you spotted him in the living room dressed to go outside.
The alarm bells in your head were going off.
âHey, where are you going this late at night?â
It was just a simple question, one that didnât warrant the reaction you were about to receive.
âOut.â
Caleb replied in an oddly cold tone.
Whatâs with that tone?
âOkay, but thatâs not what I asked. Where are you going?â
You asked again, something in your gut was telling you that you were not going to like the answer.
Caleb sighed out in frustration before replying.
âMC called and needed me, so Iâm going to Linkon right now. You know how she gets.â
Normally you wouldnât say anything, but this was supposed to be your time with Caleb, no distractions.
âWhy do you always go at the drop of a hat whenever she calls? Youâre supposed to be spending time with me, not running to her whenever something doesnât go her way.â
Years of frustration were finally bubbling to the surface, you didnât want it to come out but you had to set your boundaries.
âItâs not fair to me as your girlfriend if you keep putting her above me.â
Your voiced raised a bit as you spoke, you didnât mean for it to but having to constantly deal with MC barging in on your time with Caleb, whether she knew he was with you or not, was beyond irritating.
âIâm not putting her above you, she just requires a bit more care and attention than you do.â
That did it, if you werenât mad before you definitely were now.
âExcuse me? Whatâs that supposed to mean?â
âItâs exactly as I said it. MC always feels insecure, even more so when you skipped grades and left her alone. I canât just ignore her when she calls me asking for help.â
Every explanation that came out of his mouth had you seeing red, you werenât gonna back down either.
âDonât you dare try to pin this on me? Just because we were friends didnât mean that I had to be stuck to her hip 24/7. I skipped those grades cause it benefited me for my future, and if she really was my friend she wouldâve been happy for me instead of sulking around like a child.â
That lit a fuse in Caleb, if there was one thing he didnât tolerate it was anyone saying something about MC, even if it was you.
âYou better watch what you say, I wonât tolerate it even it itâs you.â
His tone had you taking a step back, it was a whole different level of cold. You shouldâve taken that as your sign to back off and come back to this when you guys were less heated, but who were you if not stubborn.
âOmg how could I ever insult your precious MC. You need to let go of that overprotectiveness you have when it comes to her, it puts me in a tough spot when you go running to her like a dog when its owner calls.â
You probably took it too far with that but you were past the point of no return.
âYouâre so infuriating! What do you not understand that MC needs me right now, every moment I spend here on this useless conversation is more time sheâs alone.â
He spat back.
Iâm infuriating?
That hit a nerve, but you couldnât let him see that, not until you got all your feelings out.
âIâm infuriating?! What about MC? Every time we get some time together she always fucking ruins it! Canât I just have all of your attention and time without her trying to barge in? Itâs like sheâs trying to make it so we donât spend any time together!â
âGod youâre so fucking clingy! I knew I should have listened to MC when she warned me not to date you!â
He yelled that at you, and for the first time since the conversation started you were speechless.
âWhat?â
Your voice was low and filled with hurt. You couldnât believe your ears that he would say something like that.
âYou heard me. I should have never dated you. I ignored MC when she warned me, I gave you the benefit of the doubt but I shouldâve fucking known. MC would have been a better girlfriend than you.â
You could hear your heart breaking, you donât know if youâd ever recover from this.
Caleb took your silence as an opportunity to walk around you to the door, slamming it behind him.
You felt your knees give out, the tears were streaming down your face in silent pain. You didnât know he thought of you that way, you didnât want to think that way but a part of you felt like MC was talking bad about you behind your back. It makes no sense he would say all of that on his own.
Will I always be in her shadow? Is that all Iâm worth?
You thought to yourself.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
God knows how long you were in that position for, no sign of Caleb coming back or any calls or texts. You picked yourself up off the floor and gathered all your things, youâd be damned if you spent another minute in this house where you clearly had no worth.
Throwing on a pair of sweatpants, you made sure to clear everything you had at Calebâs place, not leaving a single thing behind.
You put everything in your car and drove yourself home. It was 6 in the morning so the roads were starting to get busy but it was quiet enough for you to be lost in thought, a dangerous action while driving. You were so lost in thought you didnât notice that you were approaching a red light until it was too late.
A car had crashed into your drivers side, and everything went black.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
*In Linkon*
Caleb had made it outside of MCâs dorm, the argument he had with you weighing heavy on his mind but his first priority was MC.
Who knew that argument would cost him everything.
It didnât take long before MC threw open the door and jumped into his arms. He returned the hug by patting her on the head before heading inside.
âWhat happened? Why did you call?â
He asked, although his mind wasnât entirely present in the moment, it kept drifting back to you.
âOh no reason, I was just thinking about you and decided to call you. You know itâs my birthday in a couple of days so I wanted you to spend some time with me this weekend.â
For the first time ever, Caleb felt a spark of annoyance at MCâs reasoning. She had called him earlier in tears and said he needed to come quick, he even fought with you before coming here.
Pushing that feeling aside he simply smiled.
âYou know I canât do that pip squeak, I already promised Y/N I would spend my week off with her. We had a bit of an argument before I came here, so I have to go back in a bit to make sure sheâs fine.â
He said.
Sheâll probably be calmed down by the time I come back.
He thought to himself, boy was he wrong.
MC pouted, not liking how things werenât playing in her favour, but she planned on trying to come up with another excuse later to get him to stay longer.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
A couple of hours had passed when he got that heart stopping call.
âHello is this Caleb Xia? This is Skyhaven Hospital calling about Miss Y/N.â
The nurse spoke in a hurried tone, tt was like someone had knocked the wind out of him.
âSpeaking, what happened.â
His anxiety went through the roof, what happened after he left? Did you hurt yourself? But he never say any signs of depression, was he actually putting MC above you so much that he was ignoring your feelings?
His mind was running a mil a minute with each thought progressively getting worse, the guilt from what he said to you when you guys fought was finally kicking in.
âShe was involved in a car accident and needs surgery, we require a signature from her guardian to proceed. Are you able to come in right now? Itâs urgent.â
âCan I give you my consent over the phone? Iâm currently in Linkon and it would take me some time to get back, I donât want to delay the procedure.â
Although Caleb sounded composed, on the inside he was breaking.
âThe surgeon said that should be fine, please do make sure to be here as soon as possible as you need to fill out some forms. Weâll get started on the surgery. Thank you.â
The nurse promptly hung up, leaving Caleb to his thoughts.
Without wasting a moment he got up and made his way to the door. MC had been trying to listen to what was being said on the phone, unable to decipher what was happening based on Calebâs words alone. Seeing Caleb getting ready to leave she jumped up, trying to stop him.
âWhere are you going? You canât just leave, you basically just got here!â
She grabbed ahold of his arm, trying to physically stop him but it was of no use, he pulled his arm out of her grasp and tried to leave again before she spoke up.
âWhat excuse did she come up with this time? She does this all the time whenever you and I spend time together.â
Something in him had just snapped, it was like a fog had been lifted. Never in his life did he think he would be here getting upset at MC, but life has a funny way of proving you wrong.
âWhat are you even talking about, when has she ever done that?â
MC was taken aback, Caleb never questioned her whenever she said anything like this before, he would just spend some time comforting her.
âI donât have time for this, Iâm leaving. Iâll talk to you about this later.â
He said in a curt tone, leaving no room for discussion.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
Caleb had booked it to Skyhaven, not wanting to waste a single moment.
By the time he made it, the surgery was still ongoing. Grabbing the nearest nurse he asked for an update, unfortunately they didnât have much of an update to give him aside from the fact that your condition was really bad when you were brought in. You had ran a red light and were hit on the drivers side by oncoming traffic, the other driver made it out with minor injuries and a concussion.
Unfortunately, you werenât so lucky. You had been brought in with internal bleeding, a broken arm and head trauma. Your recovery period was going to be lengthy, which in turn would also hinder your ability to graduate this year like you had planned, but that was a problem for next time.
Caleb slumped onto on the chairs outside the OR, the time passed by excruciatingly slow.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
A couple of hours later the operation was finally completed.
Seeing you in that condition physically hurt him, his chest feeling constricted.
âWe were able to stop the bleeding but sheâs still unconscious, because the head trauma was severe itâll take some time before she will wake up.â
Caleb nodded, listening to the doctorâs words intently. He followed the nurses to the room where you were going to be recovering, taking a seat next to the bed he held your hand in his.
âIâm sorry, please. Please just wake up soon.â
Sadly you wouldnât wake up for another two months.
Everyday Caleb would come to take care of you, making sure to change the flowers before they began to wilt, taking responsibility to wash you and take care of your hair, hell he would even do your skincare at night so youâd wake up in perfect condition.
Although he knew deep down inside that nothing he could do could ever make up for the things he said and how he made you feel. Caleb and MC had also grown apart during this time, constantly wishing that he had never went to see her that night, if he didnât then maybe youâd be awake and smiling next to him instead of lying still on that bed in this lifeless hospital room.
Caleb came in with a fresh bouquet of your favourite flowers, silently he replaced the old ones, making sure to get some fresh water before putting in the new bouquet. Once that was done he made his way to his usual spot, right next to your bed.
Earlier the doctor said you were recovering well, although it would take some time and rehab for you to use your arm again. Youâd also be weak from the extended period of time that was spent in bed, but Caleb was nothing if not determined to make sure he was there for you every step of the way.
âHey baby, itâs me Caleb. Youâre probably tired of hearing my voice everyday huh? The doctor says youâre recovering well, youâll just need some rehab to help you get back into the groove of things when you wake up.â
Caleb kept getting choked up the more he spoke, he just wanted you to wake up, even if you donât want him anymore, heâd be fine with that.
âI miss you, your voice, your sweet smile, everything. If I could trade spots with you I would. So please, please just wake up. Iâm sorry for everything, Iâm such a shitty boyfriend arenât I? I canât believe I said all of that, on your birthday no less.â
At this point the tears he tried so hard to hold back started streaming down his face. It was hard to keep up that strong front, but he tried because he felt that he didnât deserve to be sad, not when heâs to blame for you being in this state.
He grabbed a hold of your hand, bringing it to his face hoping to feel something. Anything.
He nuzzled his face in to your hand as he silently cried. It wasnât long before he was passed out in that chair, still holding your hand to his face.
He felt it in the middle of the night, always the light sleeper he was awake at the slightest of movements. He knew he wasnât mistaken, he felt your hand twitch for this first time in two months.
He was now wide awake and sitting upright in his seat, watching you closely. Thatâs when he say it, your hand twitched in his hold, a slight groan escaping your lips, but your eyes had still yet to open.
Caleb had already pressed the call button, the nurses and doctor filling the room in a matter of minutes, thatâs when you had finally opened your eyes.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
A series of tests had been conducted and the doctor had caught you up to speed with everything before you were left alone with Caleb. You avoided looking at him the entire time, it stung, but he couldnât complain.
You cleared your throat uncomfortably, the dryness getting to you, but before you could even get the water, Caleb had already poured a glass and was holding it out to you.
You silently took it from him and drank it slowly, not wanting to shock your system. It was a struggle, your grip on the glass was weak. It almost slipped out of your hands if not for Caleb holding the bottom of the cup.
Once you were done, Caleb put the glass on the side, reaching out to grab your hands. You pulled them back before he could touch you.
âWhy are you here Caleb? Doesnât MC need you?â
Were you being petty? Yes, the fight that you guys had may have been two months ago for him, but for you it was like it was yesterday. The wounds from his words were still fresh.
You missed the look of hurt that flashed across his face, but it disappeared as quickly as it came.
"You don't get to come in here and think that everything will be fine. I just wanted one week with you, no distractions. All I got in return? You leaving me alone on the morning of my birthday after telling me you should've listened to MC when she told you not to date me?!"
You had tears in your eyes, but you refused to let them escape. You didn't want to let him see just how broken you were about this.
Caleb had nothing to say, how could he? He was the one who put you in this position, he's the reason you ended up in the hospital.
"Please just leave."
Your voice sounded so broken, all he could do was listen to your request even though every cell in his being told him to stay by your side. He chose to just wait outside your room, not wanting to be too far away from you but still wanting to respect your request.
As soon as soon Caleb left the room you let the tears you were holding back fall, your body shook with sobs as everything came crashing down on you.
Even with the morphine you could feel the lingering bits of pain all throughout your body.
You eventually ended up crying yourself to sleep. The silence had Caleb worried, so he had decided to check in on you, seeing that you were asleep he was able to calm himself down a little.
But the sight of your tear stricken face had him clutching his chest in pain, all he wanted to do was take away your pain.
For now, he was just going to try his best to be by your side, no matter how much you pushed him away. He was determined to make things right.
âă»âă»âă»âă»âă»
A couple of weeks had passed before you were finally released from the hospital.
During that time Caleb was as stubborn as ever, never leaving your side unless it was for classes, he spent the nights next to your bed, watching over you. He was always one step ahead, if you were thinking about food or water, the next second he would have it in front of you.
You didn't want to admit it, you enjoyed having him wait on you hand and foot. But you still weren't ready to forgive him, not yet. You still needed to talk to him about what happened before you could decide where this relationship was headed.
You wanted to give him another chance, seeing how tirelessly he's been taking care of you these past few weeks. You could only assume he was doing the same those two months where you were unconscious.
In the meantime, you decided his punishment would be your silence, not speaking to him unless it was absolutely necessary. Even then you only spoke a few words.
Caleb was currently in class, it was a Friday so that meant he'd home earlier than the other days.
You didn't have much of a choice as to where you'd be staying, Caleb wanted to make sure you were taking all your medication as well as doing the exercises you were assigned for your rehab, he knew how forgetful you could be, and you were in no condition to be staying on your own. So his solution was to have you stay at his place.
Being there brought back bad memories, but you had made up your mind to talk to him about it. If you were going to be staying here you needed to know where you guys stood in each others lives.
You were currently in his room, wanting to take a nap but your mind was too active for you to relax.
It wasn't long before Caleb came home, not seeing you in the living room he immediately made his way towards his room.
The moment he walked in he relaxed, seeing that you were alright. You saw him and thought,
It's now or never.
"We need to talk."
Caleb's heart dropped, his mind went crazy thinking you were about to break up with him. Although he couldn't blame you for wanting to, but he refused to let you go, you were the only good thing he had in his life, he couldn't afford to lose you. Not before he had a chance to make things right.
"Okay."
He said as calmly as possible, not wanting to give away the immense anxiety he was feeling from this situation.
He walked towards you, kneeling on the ground next to you.
"I'm giving you one chance to explain yourself for that night."
That was all he needed to go on tangent about that night, from the call from MC where she was crying to going to her house and finding out she had been lying to him to get him to spend more time with her instead of you to him and MC having a falling out because of the things she said about you.
He laid it all out, he wasn't proud of the fact that he was so easily fooled by her. He had known her far longer than he had known you, and thought she would never lie to him, boy was he wrong.
"I admit that I have absolutely no excuse for letting myself believe her words. I can't forgive myself for the things I said that night and how I just left you there. It was all my fault."
He took your hands in his, you would've pulled them out of his reach but this time you let him hold them. You could see in his actions and in his eyes how much he regretted that night and how he had been trying everyday to make things right.
"I blame myself for your accident, if I had just stayed with you, if i had never said those words you wouldn't have ended up in this condition."
You had never really seen Caleb cry, so seeing him now in tears as his brain recounted the feeling of seeing you on that hospital bed, had your mind coming to a conclusion.
You were going to give him another chance, his one and only chance. If anything like that happens again you won't stick around, you had enough self respect to not tolerate that.
You removed yours hands from his, Caleb had a look of hurt when you did that, but it didn't last long before you cupped his face, wiping away his tears.
"You get one chance only. Mess up and you'll never see or hear from me again, got it?"
He nodded his head like a child before pulling you to the floor and onto his lap.
He hid his face in the crook of your neck as silent sobs raked his body. You ran a soothing hand through his hair to help him calm down.
It hurt to see him like this, but he also deserved it. Even if it was a fraction of the pain you went through.
"I promise I'll make it up to you. Anything you want, I'll do it."
His voice came out muffled, but you could feel the sincerity in it.
"I'll hold you to that."

Oh no. What's wrong with Silver Ravenwolf? I feel like I see them recommended everywhere...
Yeeeeaaaah, it's an ongoing problem. Her books were wildly popular for over a decade and they're were widely marketed as THE Book To Have for beginner witches by Llewellyn, which was the heaviest of the heavy hitters in occult literature at the time.
The problem with Silver Ravenwolf is largely that she is wildly out of touch in a very New Age White Woman kind of way. Her books tout loads of misinformation, appropriation, and historical revisionism that are simply not acceptable (i.e. claiming victims of witch trials were actual pagan witches, citing a fictional ancient matriarchal goddess religion that never existed was the basis for Wicca, leaning into the hereditary superpowers / indigo child / starseed narrative, etc). Besides which, the theories she posits contradict each other from page to page and chapter to chapter, claims a Gardnerian lineage which canât possibly exist, and trumpets Bucklandâs personal theories on the Burning Times and interpretation of the Threefold Law as if they were fact.
And thanks to her runaway popularity, those of us who instruct and answer questions from newer witches have to UNTEACH all of this nonsense.
If it were simply a matter of being a product of her time, I could forgive some of the nonsense. But sheâs still selling mammy dolls on her website, though she labels them as âprimitiveâ and equates them to âpositive voodoo dolls.â Yes, she's been confronted about this, and yes she doubled down. I donât think I need to explain how gross and racist this is on SEVERAL levels. She's been given opportunities to show growth and self-work with regards to her work and simply refuses to believe that she was ever wrong about anything.
So, her books aren't entirely worthless by any means, but they require a LOT of critical reading and a strong understanding of actual history and science. Furthermore, she leans rather hard into a borderline cult mentality that boils down to, "Nobody understands you, but because you're drawn to witchcraft, you're SPECIAL, probably because of some ancient hereditary superpower, so don't worry - Mama Silver understands you. Also, there's no need to read further into anything, just take my word for it."
I would not recommend them for beginners, which is a problem because that's exactly the demographic her work is marketed toward. (Personally, I would not recommend them for anybody, but that's just my opinion.) They require so much effort to fact-check and unpack that it's almost not even worth the time and energy for whatever ideas and information you might actually find useful.
For more details, I suggest the following articles:

The Problem With Silver Ravenwolf
Trae Dorn (@traegorn) of BS-Free Witchcraft expands on the topic in this video. They've been wrestling with this issue for YEARS within the Wiccan and wider witchcraft communities and I'm sure they could cite examples I've missed.

Under the forbidden tree - Part I
Pairing(s): religious!mommy Wanda X female!reader
Words count: ~ 10k
Summary: A break from your studies and work. A program dedicated to foster children you decided to join. A weekend of faith, charity, and innocence under the watchful eye of the Westview church. But beneath the prayers and borrowed smiles, something unholy stirs.
- "...but have you ever sinned in Godâs house?â
- "Whatâs wrong, Y/N? Kneel." - She repeated, this time with a slightly softer tone."
tags | content: Wanda being a little psycho, innocence/corruption, a lot of teasing, jealous, manipulation, possessiveness, improper use of religion itens, praying for grace.
A/N: My initial plan was to create an one-shot, but it ended up being too long, so I decided to split it into two parts. Honestly, Iâm still not sure if that was the better choice, but anyway. Enjoy :)
Fic menu | Part II
You were running late, but not as much as the ride your friend, Yelena, had promised you.
As you packed the last pieces of clothing you had laid out on the bed â "toothbrush, comfortable sneakers, sunscreen, hairbrush, cap, towel... vibrator?!" â your mental checklist came to an abrupt halt when your eyes landed on the object placed inside one of the suitcase compartments. "Do I need to bring this?" - you wondered, a pang of guilt creeping into your conscience. Bringing your toy to a church retreat might not be the wisest decision â actually, it was a terrible one. The possibility of boredom wasnât a valid excuse, nor was the fact that finding a moment of privacy in your friend's apartment was nearly impossible.
Your thoughts drifted beyond the present â this week marked two months since you had temporarily moved into your childhood friendâs apartment. You could call it luck or mere coincidence, but either way, it had been a huge help.
A few months ago, you received an offer to work and study temporarily at a psychiatric hospital unit in Westview. At first, you considered turning it down â far from home, a small town that felt more like a village, completely different from your life, nothing particularly appealing. However, after an honest conversation with your favourite college professor, your perspective shifted. Finding out the significant research advancements happening there reignited your interest.
But, of course, there was still one major issue â where would you stay during that period? Money was tight, and there werenât many good housing options in Westview. Thatâs when Yelena practically "fell from the sky" â or rather, her girlfriend, Kate, did, stepping in to help with everything you were missing â they were your saviour.
Two weeks after accepting the offer, you stood in front of Kateâs apartment with your small collection of belongings. In a quick rundown, Yelena had explained that she met Kate at an exhibition of ancient artefacts âmore specifically, weapons and combat objects. Well, none of that surprised you. In fact, you made a mental note, wondering how it was even possible for more people to share Yelenaâs questionable and somewhat violent interests. Either way, things moved quickly after that, and now Kate was working in a neighbouring city to Westview. Yes, even though you had to travel a few extra miles to the hospital where youâd be working and studying for the next few months, this was still the best option, and you were incredibly grateful for it. Oh, and of course, the small yet not-so-insignificant detail â less than a month after Kate settled into her apartment, Yelena invited herself to move in. Classic.
A knock on your bedroom door pulled you back to the present. The door suddenly swung open, followed by Yelena shouting, - âIâm home! Are you still not ready? Letâs go!â
You jumped in surprise and quickly shut your suitcase. Any hesitation you previously had about the vibrator was gone. It was coming with you, whether because you no longer had the chance to take it out or simply because privacy in this apartment is definitely not an option. Maybe, in a quiet place, free from interruptions, youâd finally get to enjoy a moment to yourself.
----
On the way to Westview, Yelena convinced you to make a quick stop at a Café. After all, a little caffeine would be welcome before hitting the road.
- "Are you sure about this, Y/N?" - Yelena asked, her expression filled with doubt.
- "You mean doing a little charity work by volunteering for the kids at the orphanage?" - you replied with a question of your own.
- "Yes... I mean, not exactly about helping out, but you know, this is a project run by the Westview church community..." - her voice trailed off as if she wasnât sure how to phrase it.
- "I know, I get what you're trying to say." - You let out a small laugh. - "Honestly, Iâm not entirely comfortable with the idea of spending the next few days at a church âclub.â Religion really isnât my thing..."
Yelena was trying her best to not look judgmental, but she was failing miserably.
- "Look, itâs not going to be the best place or the best people, but Iâm doing this for the kids. Giving them a weekend of fun, games, and a chance to breathe some fresh air outside of the orphanage. Itâs worth it." - you continued.
Yelena stared at you while taking another sip of her coffee, carefully choosing her next words.
- "Okay, Iâm still not completely convinced by that excuse." - You raised an eyebrow, waiting for a better response. - "But since youâve decided, I should warn you that where you're going is far from being a âclub.â Kate and I went there once. Honestly, the place looks like the perfect setting for a period horror film. There's only a chapel and three large wooden buildings."
You were about to argue, but she cut you off.
- "No, donât defend the place before youâve even seen it. Youâll agree with me later. Oh, and before you ask what Kate and I were doing there â the only, and I mean only, good part is the huge, beautiful lake. Great for swimming or just relaxing."
You let out a long sigh and nodded, choosing to avoid a pointless argument.
- "Maybe the truth is... I just need a short break," - you admitted in a low voice, almost as if you were trying to convince yourself.
You could hear Yelenaâs voice in the background â she was probably giving you a lecture about neglecting self-care and not recognizing your limits. But her words barely registered. Your mind was elsewhere, your thoughts louder than her voice, dragging you back to the exhausting days at the hospital.
--
- "Y/N adapted so quickly here, didnât she, Darcy?" -Jimmy asked, taking a bite of his sandwich.
- "Yeah! A little too quickly, actually. But she got lucky that we donât currently have any patients going into the âdark book,â" - Darcy replied, giving you a playful wink.
The three of you were in the hospitalâs break room, taking a short rest and having what might be lunch or maybe even dinner â with shifts so chaotic and schedules a mess from the overwhelming workload, this was probably your biggest meal of the day â a combo of lunch and dinner.
- "'Dark book'? Whatâs that?" - You asked, puzzled.
Jimmy shot Darcy a disapproving look as if she had just brought up a forbidden topic. Then, turning back to you, he answered in a tone that was far too cold. - "Itâs nothing big, Y/N. Just reports on patients with more complex cases. In these instances, to protect their future, all records are archived under strict confidentiality. Once theyâre discharged, itâs as if their past is erased â so thereâs no public speculation and they can reintegrate into society more easily."
The idea intrigued you. What kind of cases could be so dark that they needed to be kept secret, their pasts wiped clean?
- "That sounds interesting, but I have my doubts about you two keeping secrets. I can practically read it on your faces that you know more than you're letting on."
Darcy let out a loud laugh before responding. - "Of course we do⊠and yet, we donât." - She chuckled again. - "But honestly, we respect that confidentiality rule. I think itâs fair."
You werenât satisfied with that vague answer, and your curiosity got the best of you. - "Oh, come on, guys! It wonât hurt anyone if you share just a little of what you know. Besides, Iâll be gone in a few months anyway." - You gave them your best pleading puppy-dog eyes.
Jimmy chuckled before finally speaking. - "Look, Y/N, you can dig around in our library all you want, but you wonât find anything with real details. Even we, after years here, barely have any real information."
Darcy nodded in agreement and added, - "Heâs not lying, Y/N. We donât even know the patientsâ names. All we ever get are bits and pieces of stories that float around the hallways."
You kept staring, silently pushing for more, until she finally gave in. - "Jimmy, do you remember that guy who used to pull pranks on other patients? Even on Dr Strange? He was absolute chaos."
Jimmy refused to say a word, just shooting her another disapproving look.
- "Oh, come on, Jimmy. Everyone here knows at least one story about that guy, donât give me that judgmental silence." - She smirked before continuing. - "But fine, I know you were way more interested in that other guy⊠the one who almost turned green when he got angry."
Jimmy scoffed. - "Now thatâs a low blow. Of course, that case was more interesting, but donât even try to change the subject. Your real obsession was that crazy patient who kept rambling nonsense and scribbling in that little red notebook⊠the one with those three initials on the cover."
You and Darcy were about to press him for more when Dr. Strange walked into the room. - "I believe the break is over. Time to get back to the studies."
--
- "Y/N? Are you listening to me?" - Yelena said, shaking your arm. - âY/N!! Earth to you, hello??â
You were snapped back to reality by the pinch she gave you.
- âOUCH, YELENA! Iâm here, and that hurts!!â - you grumbled, rubbing the spot where she had pinched you.
- âYeah, yeah, I can see that you're here, physically, at least. But your mind? Oh, it went far, far away from here,â - she retorted with a disappointed tone. - âAnyway, you do seem like you need a break. Maybe your crazy idea isnât so bad after all.â
She continued speaking as she grabbed her bag from the chair.
- âSpeaking of enjoyment, I got you a little present.â - A mischievous smirk appeared on her face as she pointed to a small wrapped box in front of you. - âBUT â you can only open it once you get there. You have to promise me.â - She winked at you as she handed over the gift.
Still unsure, you took the package and shot her a suspicious look. - âThis is so unlike you⊠but okay, Iâll accept this rare expression of affection.â
Her mouth fell open in mock offence at your comment â though she was well aware that acts like this werenât exactly her style.
Well, youâd understand soon enough once you saw what was inside the box.
----
No matter how many times you drove down the road to Westview, you never grew tired of the natural beauty surrounding you â the towering trees lining the way, the fresh breeze streaming through the open window of the car, if you were lucky, you could even hear the birds singing as they soared through the sky.
As expected, the location was just beyond the entrance to town, requiring a small detour off the main road. A wave of anticipation and gratitude washed over you. You were excited about all the opportunities the universe was laying before youâ and, of course, grateful that your friend was here to support you. After all, she was doing you a huge favour by giving you a ride. The designated arrival day for volunteers and children was technically set for tomorrow, Saturday. However, Yelena and Kate had already arranged a small camping excursion for the weekend. Not wanting to interfere with their plans, you reached out to the project administration to inquire about the possibility of arriving a day in advance. Fortunately, they responded quickly, assuring you that it wasnât a problem â on the contrary, it was common for some team members to arrive early to help with preparations.
Once again, your mind wandered, and before you even noticed, Yelena was already steering into the front garden and parking the car.
- "Alright, are you ready to spend your next few days praying and dying of boredom?" - Yelena teased, her voice dripping with irony.
You let out a laugh. - "Girl, you are sooo dramatic! It wonât be that bad. I have high hopes itâll be fun, and time will fly by. Just donât forget to pick me up." - You tried to sound confident, though deep down, you had your own doubts about how interesting this place would be.
Yelena stifled a mocking chuckle, gripping the door handle. She turned her head toward you and stated, - "Good luck, then, Y/N. But seriously, donât fool yourself into thinking this place is all rainbows and sunshine. When youâre sitting in that chapel prayingâŠ" - she pointed outside toward the small building, "⊠youâll remember me and what Iâm telling you now. There are a lot of weird people around here, so donât be too easily convinced by good manners."
Without giving you a chance to argue, she swung open the car door.
You shared a brief embrace and a farewell kiss on the cheek. With a final wave, you watched the car fade into the distance.
Drawing in a deep breath, you turned toward the small gathering nearby and began making your way toward them. As you neared, a woman in the group noticed you and greeted you with enthusiasm.
- "Hello! Good afternoon! Welcome!"
The surrounding chatter ceased as the others turned their attention to you.
- "You must be Y/N, right? Iâm Monica," - she said, extending her hand to greet you. You shook her hand in return, slightly surprised at her accurate guess.
- "Yes, Iâm Y/N. Nice to meet you! But⊠um, how did you know my name?" - you asked, suddenly aware that all eyes were on you.
- "I was the one who replied to your email about arriving a day early," - she said with a warm smile. - "I was just talking about you! We donât get new volunteers here very often, so weâre happy to have you."
She glanced at the others and began introducing them from right to left.
- "This is Clint, Scott, Agatha, and Wanda."
They all welcomed you with warm smiles. A slight unease tingled up your spine â being in the spotlight had never been your comfort zone. Clint seemed to notice your nervousness and spoke up.
- "Hey, donât worry, Y/N. Weâll guide you through the activity schedule. Today will be pretty relaxed â weâre just preparing the welcome for tomorrow and taking care of some last-minute details."
You nodded and muttered a "thank you."
It was also evident that holding onto your luggage was wearing you out, so Monica swiftly added, - "Alright, weâll have plenty of time to get to know Y/N over the next few days, but for now, I think it would be best to show her around. Wanda, would you mind?"
Without hesitation, Wanda stepped forward and gently took your suitcase from your hands. - "It would be my pleasure! Thereâs so much to do here â youâre going to love it. But first, letâs drop off your things in your room so they donât get in the way during our little tour."
She flashed a warm smile, gesturing for you to follow, and you couldnât help but be drawn to the vivid green of her eyes.
----
The place itself didnât have much in terms of infrastructure, just as Yelena had warned you. There was the chapel, a large house that served as the dining hall and the main space for meetings and activities, and two additional buildings that housed the dormitories.
Fortunately, since you had arrived early, Wanda informed you that you could choose between a shared or private room. That was an easy decisionâa private room, without a doubt.
Wanda followed up with something you werenât expecting.
- "Alright, a private room for the young lady. But you should know, Y/N, that nothing can be hidden around here."
You stared at her, speechless and confused about the meaning behind her words, until she continued.
- "Iâm talking about the bathroom, darling. The restrooms here are communal, but donât worry â thereâs hot water and plenty of stalls for everyone in the building."
That was⊠disappointing. Not the worst thing in the world, but you had always valued your privacyâ especially in a place full of strangers. At least you had managed to secure a private room, you thought.
--
- "And here we are, finally, at the most beautiful part of the refuge â the lake!" - Wanda said excitedly, taking your hand and leading you closer to the shore. - "The sunset view from here is just breathtaking⊠Weâll have plenty of activities with the kids around this area. Iâm sure youâre going to love it."
You were absorbed in the view when you suddenly realized â she was still holding your hand. A warmth spread through your body, catching you off guard. You werenât used to physical contact, especially not with people you had just met. And yet, when Wanda gently squeezed your hand to get your attention, pointing toward a flock of birds soaring on the other side of the lake, you felt something⊠different.
Your palm began to sweat from nervousness. In an attempt to check if she had noticed, you turned to look at her â only to find her gaze locked onto yours. It was as if she was trying to read your mind. Strangely, it was both unsettling and comforting at the same time. She radiated kindness, an almost motherly aura. Yet deep down, you couldnât shake the feeling that she had the power to destroy you if she chose to.
A wave of anxiety started creeping in, and to break the tension, your eyes mistakenly drifted to her lips. That only made things worse. A rush of heat spread across your skin, and you could feel your cheeks starting to burn. Acting purely on instinct, desperate to avoid an impending disaster, you abruptly pulled your hand away and turned to the side, pointing at some nearby trees.
- "This place is so green⊠so many trees, so many flowers. Itâs really beautiful, Wanda," - you said quickly, starting to walk toward what you had just pointed at. - "Are those⊠fruits hanging from the branches?"
Wanda followed your awkward retreat, staying close. Too close.
Your face was burning, and you cursed yourself internally. Why do I always react like this around women? It was so embarrassing. This was exactly why you could never successfully start a relationship. It was ridiculous â being a lesbian but completely incapable of holding a normal conversation with a beautiful woman.
Before you could spiral deeper into your self-inflicted humiliation, Wandaâs voice cut through your thoughts.
- "Yes! Most of these trees are fruit-bearing. We have peach, orange, pear, plum⊠and my personal favouriteâapples."
Coincidentally, the tree closest to you had a few ripe apples hanging from its branches. You stopped walking, determined to keep your eyes on the fruit rather than on Wanda.
Your plan failed miserably.
Before you notice it, she was standing right in front of you â too close again. Close enough that you could catch the faint yet intoxicating scent of her perfume.
Your gaze remained fixed on the apples above, but your real struggle was maintaining steady breathing. And, of course, you failed at that too.
- "Are you okay, Y/N?" - Wanda asked with a concerned expression, taking a small step closer. - "Your face looks a little flushed, andâ"
- "I-Iâm fine, Wanda," - you interrupted, quickly stepping back. - "Itâs just⊠hot, I mean, because of the sun." - You fought to keep your voice steady, but it was a losing battle.
- "Oh, darling," - she said with a pity tone. - "Maybe you didnât put on enough sunscreen. Your face is looking a little red."
Before you could react, she reached up and gently brushed her fingers against your cheek.
You froze.
Your thoughts raced so fast that they made no sense at all. A simple touch. A meaningless gesture. Why did it make you shiver? Why are you like this?
Just as you were about to combust from sheer overthinking, an apple from the tree behind you fell to the ground with a soft thud.
You let out a startled breath â partly from the sudden noise, mostly from relief.
The shift in focus was instant. Wanda let go of your face and looked down.
- "Oh, weâve been blessed, Y/N! Look at what we have here," - she said, crouching down to pick up the apple, rubbing it against the fabric of her blouse. Then, she held it up to your lips.
- "Here, sweetheart. Take a bite."
Her eyes flickered from yours to your lips.
You didnât move. You just⊠stared at her.
- "Y/N," she repeated, this time in a firmer tone. - "I said, take a bite."
A tremor coursed through your spine. There was something about the way she spoke â the quiet dominance in her voice. Instinctively, you followed, taking a small bite.
- "Well done, dear. That was so easy," - she said with a sly smile.
- "Huh? Easy?" - you repeated, swallowing the piece of fruit.
She didnât answer. Instead, she lifted her thumb to the corner of your lips, brushing it softly as if wiping away a nonexistent trace of apple. - There was nothing there. Right? - Before you could even think to protest, she silenced you with a quiet "Shhh."
She took a bite from the same apple.
- "Mmm⊠absolutely delicious. Almost as sweet as you are," she murmured with a smirk, then winked at you.
Your brain shuts down.
- "Anyway, itâs getting late, and we still have things to do. Letâs go, dear," - she said, taking your hand â again. - "I have some important work for your hands."
- "W-What??" - you blurted out in disbelief.
These double meanings â was she doing this on purpose, or was your pathetic interpretation playing tricks on you?
Wanda didnât respond. She merely pulled you along, guiding you toward the buildings without a word of explanation.
----
It was obvious that you would use your hands to make welcome signs â what else would you even use them for? â As you cut and painted the papers, you found yourself caught in an internal debate. There was no reason for you to have ambiguous thoughts about Wanda. You reassured yourself that she was simply being kind, making sure you felt comfortable around here. She was polite and respectful, and it was evident in everything she did.
As you both worked on the signs, she struck up a light conversation â never prying, never overstepping, but also not allowing an awkward silence to settle between you. When you casually mentioned that you didnât have much knowledge of religion because it had never been a significant part of your life, she simply smiled warmly, respecting your choices.
She took the opportunity to talk about the upcoming services. For the children, there would be interactive lessons designed to introduce them to biblical teachings. For the adults, there would be mass at night, just like in Westview. Before you could even comment on it, Wanda reassured you that you were under no obligation to attend it but were always welcome to share in the Lordâs grace.
What once felt unattainable was now unfoldingâyou were speaking to her with ease, without anxious stuttering or overthinking every word. Wanda was an incredible woman, captivating in every way, but above all, she was deeply devoted to her faith. She was present at every service, every activity â the very definition of a right woman.
The signs were finally done, and without wanting to brag, you felt quite proud of your artistic skills. What you werenât so proud of, however, was the mess you had made in the process. Clumsy as ever, your hands and arms were stained with paint. Wanda noticed your chaotic state and grabbed a damp cloth to help you clean up. Unexpected yet expected. The more time you spent with her, the more you noticed her nurturing aura. It was oddly comforting.
She took your arm and gently wiped the fabric against your skin.
- âYou made quite the mess here, huh, Y/N?â - she teased, meeting your eyes with a soft smile. You felt your face heat up, both from embarrassment and from the way her fingers moved over your skin.
- âIâm proud of your work, though,â she continued, her voice warm. - âTheyâre so colourful, so full of life. In the end, the mess was worth it, wasnât it?â
You were almost certain she said that just to make you feel better, but either way, you couldnât stop the small smile that formed at the thought of her being proud of you.
Wanda continued wiping away the last traces of paint. Her touch was soft and delicate, and youâd be lying if you said you werenât enjoying the moment. The silence between you carried a strange paradox â both exhilarating and calming at the same time. To keep your mind from spiralling into dangerous territory, you let your curiosity take over. After all, you did want to know more about the woman in front of you. So with the smallest bit of confidence you could muster, you crossed a line you didnât even know existed.
- âSo, WandaâŠâ - You hesitated. - âYou said you live in Westview. Are you married? Do you have children?â
The hand that had once been so gentle against your skin suddenly tightened around your wrist.
Your heart skipped a beat. The shift in her demeanour was instant, her features tensed and her breathing grew heavier. Regret flooded your chest, and you wished you could take the question back.
Seconds passed, though they felt like hours. Her grip didnât loosen. You tried to pull your arm away, your voice barely above a whisper.
- âWanda? IâIâm sorry if that was too personal. I didnât mean to be intrusive.â
It was as if the more you tried to retreat, the harder she held on.
Then, finally, she spoke. - âOh no, thereâs no need to apologize.â - She let go of your wrist at last, and yet, you still felt the pressure of her fingers lingering on your skin.
- âYour question wasnât inappropriate,â - she said, though something about the way she avoided your gaze made you doubt her words. - âIt just caught me off guard.â
You unconsciously rubbed the spot where she had held you. The moment had been tense, and though you wanted to move on, you felt compelled to apologize again. Wanda let out a noticeable sigh. Wrong move. Before you could process what was happening, she took your chin between her fingers and tilted your head to the side.
- âI think thereâs a little paint left on your neck,â - she murmured.
Before you could react, she wiped her bare fingers against your skin. - âAlmost clean, darling,â - she continued. - âThe paint dried, so itâs a little harder to get off.â
Her nails began to lightly scrape against your neck â not painfully, but enough to make your breath hitch. Your body froze again, your thoughts scattering in every direction, yet none of it seemed to add up. Such a small gesture, yet it sent a shiver down your spine. It was meaninglessâ just a touch, just a fleeting moment â so why did it feel like something more?
- "All done,â - she finally said, pulling back slightly. - âOh dear, I might have been a little too rough. Your skin turned a bit red where I cleaned.â
Her voice was laced with mock sympathy, her eyes watching you intently before she leaned in. And then, without hesitation, she pressed a soft kiss against the spot on your neck.
- âDonât worry, itâll go back to normal soon,â - she murmured against your skin. She pulled away, her lips curling into a knowing smile. She didnât wait for a reaction â not that you could have formed one if you tried. She simply changed the subject, as if nothing had just happened.
- âWell, thatâs it. Youâre officially free from your tasks with me.â - She winked and turned toward the door. - âIâd love to see you at mass tonight, Y/N. If you feel comfortable, of course.â - And then, just like that, she was gone.
----
After finishing your afternoon activities, you took one last walk through the garden, hoping the fresh air might help clear your thoughts. You had made a promise to yourself âall the interpretations you had about Wandaâs actions were just figments of your imagination. She was simply being kind, and that was it. You were the one at fault, the one creating feelings and fictionalizing reality. Plus, you even convinced yourself that she probably had a beautiful family but just didnât feel comfortable sharing that with you.
Taking advantage of your free time, you returned to your room to organize your things and rest for a while. You even felt a spark of excitement as you remembered the gift Yelena had given you earlier. Tearing the wrapping open impatiently, you tried to guess what it could be. But the moment you saw what was inside, you immediately understood why Yelena had been so thrilled to give it to you. It was none other than a strap-on.
You stared at it in disbelief. Your friend was absolutely insane. Okay, sure â it was a good gift, you couldnât deny that. Technically, you had no right to complain, considering that, during a drunken conversation some time ago, you had confessed your curiosity about trying one. But, honestly, first: it would be ideal to actually have someone to use it with. And second: of all the moments she could have chosen to give it to you, she had to pick now â while you were in a religious setting.
Anyway, it would be hypocritical to blame her, though, considering you had also brought something inappropriate into this environment. Still, you made a note: you werenât going to let her get away with this when you saw her again. For now, to avoid any potential disaster, you hid your new toy deep in your suitcase, tucking it beneath layers of clothes.
----
You stood in front of the chapel door, hesitating, unsure whether to step inside.
- "Good evening. Are you not going in?"- A male voice sounded behind you, pulling you from your thoughts.
You turned around, startled.
- "I'm Peter⊠and you must be"
You extended your hand in greeting. - "Oh, sorry, Iâm Y/N," you replied. - "Yeah, I was just about to go in, it's justâ"
He cut you off before you could finish. - "You're the new volunteer! Nice to meet you." - He grinned. - "Donât worry, the first time can be overwhelming. Come on, Iâll show you around."
Saying this might sound cliché, especially given the circumstances, but thank God Peter showed up to keep you company. Only now did it truly dawn on you that you were in a religious environment. The air inside the chapel felt heavy on your shoulders. Some people were wearing traditional garments, though - obviously, you had no idea what they were called. Others were arranging objects at the altar and most of them clutched bibles in their hands.
The service didnât take long to begin, but it was enough time for you to get to know Peter a little. His situation was surprisingly similar to yours, he was a university student who was here simply to support the cause of the children. He wasnât part of any religious community and had started participating in these volunteer activities because one of the partners at his internship happened to be the founder of an adoption center in his city.
Learning that there were others here who werenât directly connected to the church was a relief. The pressure in your chest, that lingering sense of being out of place, softened just a bit. Besides, you were now intrigued to meet this partner Peter spoke so highly of â Mr. Stark.
--
Your eyelids drooped with boredom. The people around you were full of energy, reciting prayer after prayer, but to you, they were just meaningless words drifting through the air. Without thinking, your eyes kept wandering over the crowd, searching for Wanda. You were fairly sure she was seated near the front, beside the woman named Agatha. They seemed so immersed as if they truly belonged.
All of a sudden, the sound of drums and guitars filled the chapel. A group of people at the front stood and walked up to the altar. Among them was Wanda. Her gaze landed on you immediately. It was hypnotic. No matter how hard you tried, you couldnât look away.
- "This is always the best part. The lyrics arenât great, but at least the melody makes up for it!" - Peter whispered, nudging you with his elbow. - "At least it brings some energy to the room⊠and wakes up anyone who's about to fall asleep." - He chuckled.
You nudged him back, holding in a laugh to avoid drawing attention.
But Wanda noticed.
And when you looked at her again, her expression had changed. If she had been happy to see you here before, that feeling had now been replaced by something else entirely. Her eyes burned as they locked onto you â and your new colleague.
As soon as the choir finished their last song, Peter turned to you with a small smile. - "I have to go now. I promised to help with the kitchen duties for dinner," - he said, getting up.
You felt a pang of disappointment, both at losing his company and at the realization that the mass still wasnât over. Turning your attention back to the altar, you watched as the singers from earlier now exchanged greetings with the priest. And there she was â Wanda.
From a distance, she looked so harmless. She conversed effortlessly with those around her, and everyone appeared to admire her. In a way, it felt odd watching her engage with others. She didnât seem to be giving them those scrutinizing glances, nor did she speak in cryptic phrases designed to mislead or perhaps she behaved the same as always, and everything weighing on your mind was meaningless after all.
It didnât take long for people to return to their seats. Some, like Peter, left the chapel, but Wandaâ She didnât go back to her place. She was walking toward you.
- "Is this seat taken?" - she asked, not waiting for an answer before sitting beside you. - "I'm really happy you came tonight. I hope itâs not too overwhelming for you, darling," she added, placing her Bible on her lap and opening it.
- "Itâs been a good experience," - you admitted truthfully. - "Besides, I met Peter. He seems like a good person." - You werenât sure why you brought him up, maybe just to fill the silence.
- "Oh, Peter. Yes, I know him," - she said, her tone suddenly firmer, colder.
Looking down, you noticed her fingers fidgeting with the rosary in her hand, gripping the cross a little too tightly. Her mood had shifted â again.
- "Uh⊠is the mass almost over?" - you asked, hoping to lighten the air.
- "Almost, dear. Almost," - she murmured, just as the priest began speaking again. She turned her head forward, focusing on the next prayer, but not before flashing you a small smile. You were exhausted, silently pleading for everything to end soon.
As the minutes ticked by, Wandaâs presence beside you awakened something unfamiliar. It was as if your body remained in a perpetual state of anticipation, craving something beyond reach, even though you knew your longing was forbidden. Dangerous. And then, almost as if she had read your restless mind â you felt it.
Her hand lay still on your exposed thigh, the cool beads of her rosary caught beneath her palm, pressing into your skin each time her grip tensed with every echoed âamen.â You silently cursed yourself for choosing shorts over jeans.
Unlike you, Wanda appeared entirely unbothered by the situation. She echoed the priestâs words with ease, her voice steady and sure. And with each proclamation of praise, her grip tightened just a little more, pressing the cold metal of the cross even deeper into your skin.
Then, at last, the priest spoke his final words.
Wanda turned to you again. - "I hope you have a blessed nightâŠ" - she whispered, leaning in. - "And one full of grace, Y/N. Good night." - her lips grazed your cheek in a whisper-soft kiss.
And just like that, she was gone.
You remained still, frozen in place, watching as she walked toward the others as if nothing had happened. What⊠was that? Was your mind playing tricks on you again? Regardless of what conclusion you might come to, one thing was undeniable â That kiss was way too close to your lips.
----
You woke up to the sound of the chapel bell ringing. You were exhausted. Pressing the palm of your hand against your eyes, you let out a low groan of frustration. Your treacherous mind dragged memories from the previous night to the surface â the chapel, a new friendship, the endless prayers, and her â Wanda. No matter how much you fought it, the memories kept replaying in your mindâher gaze fixed on you, her presence beside you on the bench, her hand on your thigh, the ghost of her lips on your cheek. Stop. You had to stop thinking about it. As if stealing your sleep wasnât enough, you refused to let her linger in your thoughts all day too.
As you wished, things were going well. At breakfast, you ran into Peter, who instantly invited you to sit with him. He talked a lot, cracking jokes and sharing stories from college â a great distraction for your restless mind. After indulging a little too much in the delicious food, you both headed to the courtyard, where more volunteers and children began arriving. You finally met the famous Mr. Stark, whom Peter had raved about, and his lovely wife. The conversation was engaging, but duty soon called. Monica gave you instructions to take the children to the dining hall while others helped store their luggage in the respective accommodations. Everything was well-organized, and the people were incredibly helpful. While watching over the children, you even managed a quick chat with Scott, who was eager for you to meet his daughter.
The day was going wonderfully, and, without intending to be judgmental, there were moments when you almost forgot the place was tied to a religious organization. You met people from nearby towns who volunteered regularly for this cause, regardless of their beliefs. It was all about the children, and they were absolutely delightful. Laughter echoed through the air, some raced across the lawn, others tended to the garden, played ball, or explored the small farm area, where they could interact with animals and learn about them. The most rewarding part was witnessing their beaming smiles, their excitement unmistakable as they eagerly chose which activity group to join.
Speaking of which, you were assigned to oversee the lake activities. Initially, you were excited about your role, but upon realizing that "lake activities" meant swimming with the children, your enthusiasm waned. You hadnât packed a swimsuit, after all, who would have guessed thereâd be water activities at a church retreat? Never. Regardless, you worked with what you had, slipping into workout shorts, a sports top, and a lightweight shirt over it. That would do.
--
The evening bell rang, signalling the start of the nightâs activities. You began calling the children out of the water and sending them over to Cassie, Scottâs daughter, who was handing out towels.
You were happy but utterly drained. You had to give your all to help your team win the water polo match against Peter, but it was worth every effort. Of course, you took the time to lift the losing teamâs spirits, assuring the kids that they had played exceptionally well and placing the blame for the loss entirely on Peter. Maybe that was a little harsh because your convincing words successfully triggered an all-out water fight against him.
Well, karma always finds a way back. After all the children had left the lake and headed to the dorms, Cassie announced that only one towel remained. You and Peter locked eyes in a wordless challenge before sprinting for it. Unfortunately, he was faster, laughing mischievously as he grabbed the towel. - âBetter luck next time, Y/N! I win. See you later!â
Great. A short walk to your room while soaking wet wasnât the end of the world. Everything was fine, you told yourself â until you heard Agathaâs voice.
- "My God, Y/N! Where are you going, dripping wet like that?!" - she exclaimed, approaching you, her loud voice drawing attention including Wandaâs.
- "Iâm just heading to my room to grab a towel," you murmured, not wanting to attract more stares. - "Donât worry, just a few more steps and Iâm there," you tried to sound cheerful.
- "Oh, poor little thing," - Agatha teased, giving you a mock pitying look before turning away. - "Wanda! Bring a towel, your little angel here looks like a lost, wet puppy."
A cold breeze hit your damp skin, making the temperature difference even more unbearable. Your body tensed as you saw Wanda approaching.
- "Y/N! Why are you walking around soaked like this? Youâll catch a cold, for Godâs sake. Whereâs your towel?" - she asked, concern evident in her voice. - "Here, let me help you," - she added, draping a towel over your shoulders, pulling you closer âtoo close.
- "Itâs fine, Wanda. There was only one towel left, and Peter got to it first," - you admitted softly, feeling guilty for secretly enjoying her attention.
- "Peter, huh? Iâve noticed you two are getting along, maybe a little too well," - she remarked, her hand tightening on your arm over the towel. Her grip was firm. - "I hope you had fun." - You couldnât quite decipher if her tone was sincere or laced with something else.
Your mind replayed moments from earlier. You had done your best to keep thoughts of Wanda at bay, and, for the most part, you had succeeded. The distractions of games and the childrenâs company helped lighten things, as long as you didnât glance in her direction. Every time your gaze drifted toward the field where the children played, Wanda was there, watching you. At first, you brushed it off as a mere coincidence, but soon, it became unnerving. Again and again, you caught her observing you as if carefully tracking your every move.
You snapped back to the present when Wanda pulled the towel from your shoulders. You looked at her, confused.
- "Take off your shirt." - It was more of a command than a suggestion. You stared at her, surprised at her boldness.
- "Iâm not saying it twice, Y/N. Your shirt is drenched. Take it off." - You stood firm, refusing to comply so easily. Who did she think she was, ordering you around? Sure, she was right, but still, you can make your own choices.
- "Iâm warning you. Donât test me," she said in a sharp tone, raising an eyebrow and stepping closer. - "Donât worry, darling. No one will see." Your eyes locked, and in an instant, whatever determination you had shattered. She had that effect on you, whether you wanted to admit it or not.
Hesitantly, you peeled off your damp shirt, shivering as the cold air met your skin and the fabric of your sports top. Wanda gave you a satisfied smile, wrapping the towel back around you.
- "Good girl. Iâm proud that you listened to me," - she murmured, adjusting the fabric on your shoulders. - "Itâs okay, sweetheart." - Her voice softened as she leaned in, her hands caressing your back over the towel, sliding lower. - "Itâs okay to want to act like a brat sometimesâŠ" - Her face was dangerously close to yours, her hands now resting on your waist. - "But donât worry. Iâll make sure you know your place." - She whispered the last words against your ear.
Taking the wet shirt from your hands, she gave you one last knowing smile before turning and walking back toward the others.
----
Your plan to stop thinking about Wanda had completely failed. The scene from earlier kept replaying in your head. Nothing made sense. Why does she act so harmless, yet suddenly she feels like a predator ready to devour me? The question tormented your mind. Well, not that it would be a bad thing for her to devour you, you thought. "STOP!" The thought was so loud in your head that you accidentally muttered it out loud. You needed to do something.
The first solution that came to mind wasnât the best. In fact, it was the worst. But you were tired and maybe, just maybe, desperate. Whether you were ready to admit it or not, the truth was that your body craved her. The way she looked at you, her touch, her words â everything. She was driving you insane, both mentally and physically. You needed relief, and you convinced yourself this was the perfect moment. After all, you had come prepared for this.
You sat up in bed, determined. This was the right time, everyone was probably asleep by now. After skipping the evening mass and only stopping by the dining hall to grab a sandwich to go. You had been avoiding any contact.
Rummaging through your suitcase for your toy, your body burned with anticipation, your thoughts consumed by Wanda. To your surprise, the midnight bell rang, and you jumped in fright. The cool night breeze rustled the curtain by the open window, bringing a sudden clarity to your mind. "God, I mean, literally God. What am I doing? This is madness!" Guilt crept up your spine. Letting out a long sigh, you made a new decision â you needed a cold shower, now.
--
The freezing water was undoubtedly the best choice. As it cascaded down your shoulders, you felt your mind finally regaining balance. You were relaxed, at peace, when suddenly, a noise outside your stall broke the silence. A chill crept down your body. Maybe it was just the wind. Maybe it was nothing. Just to be sure, you murmured hesitantly, "Hello? Is someone there?" of course, no response. There couldnât possibly be anyone here at this hour.
Finishing your long, calming shower, you wrapped yourself in a towel and stepped out, heading toward the bench where you had left your change of clothes. Everything was perfectly normal until you realized your underwear was missing. You shook out the rest of your clothing, but nothing. You could have sworn you brought it with you. â Had it fallen somewhere on the way? Or had you simply forgotten to grab it? â There werenât many options left, you dried off and put on what you had. It was just a quick walk to your room. No one would see.
--
- "Y/N! Youâre still awake!" - a familiar voice called out, approaching in the hallway.
No way, you thought. Your hand was already on the doorknob, about to open your room when Wanda appeared.
- "Oh, hi, Wanda. Yeah, I just⊠went to take a shower," - you responded awkwardly, suddenly avoiding eye contact and instead looking at the object in her hand.
- "Mmm, lucky me, then! I was heading to my room and figured Iâd drop off your shirt on the way." - She extended the clothes toward you.
- "Oh, right. Thank you. You didnât have to wash it," - you said, suddenly remembering the forgotten shirt. Honestly, at that moment, all your focus was on one thing â you were only wearing a thin pair of pyjama shorts, no underwear.
- "No problem, darling." - She offered a warm smile before tilting her head slightly. - "Are you okay? I didnât see you at mass and dinner tonight. I missed you." - Her hand reached out, gently stroking your arm with a concerned expression.
The warmth of her touch instantly undid all the effects of your cold shower. Your body heated up fast. You tried to maintain a natural posture, but feeling so exposed beneath your flimsy shorts was not helping. You kept your response brief, gripping the doorknob tighter. You needed to get inside, for your safety. - "Iâm fine, Wanda. Just tired from todayâs activities."
She didnât seem satisfied with your answer. Placing her hand over yours, she stopped you from opening the door. - "Is that all? Are you having trouble sleeping, dear?" - She squeezed your hand gently.- "How about we say one last prayer together, hm? It will help you rest." - Without waiting for an answer, she pushed the door open.
You had no choice but to nod and step inside, your pulse racing. Wanda followed, closing the door behind her. - "You know," she mused, her voice calm yet laced with something unreadable, - "I have this essential oil that works wonders for sleep. I could use it on you."
This had to be a curse. No word came from your mouth and you were afraid to face her.
Then the silence of the room was broken by her single command. - "Kneel." - Her voice was firm as she stepped closer to you by the bed.
You finally stared at her, incredulous. Your body tensed, yet you could feel a damp heat forming between your legs. She had power over you, and she knew it.
- "Whatâs wrong, Y/N? Kneel." - She repeated, this time with a slightly softer tone.
A thousand scenarios raced through your mind, all the possibilities of what might happenâbut none were what she meant.
- "Didnât you agree to pray with me before going to sleep?" - she questioned, raising an eyebrow.
- "Ohâof course! Pray, yes, yes, letâs do that." - You responded, your tone far too enthusiastic for the occasion, but relieved nonetheless.
Of course, kneeling was for prayer. You were so stupid. Immediately after your reply, you dropped to your knees, resting against the edge of your bed. The movement caused friction between your legs, heightening your sensitivity. This whole situation was making you feel strangely aroused and simultaneously desperate at the thought of what Wanda might do if she discovered you had been without underwear this entire time.
Before kneeling beside you, she cupped your chin, forcing you to look up at her. - "Youâre a good girl, Y/N. Letâs pray to receive His blessing."
Those were the longest, most torturous minutes of your life. You fought against your consciousness, struggling to stay focused, but every little thing distracted you â Wandaâs arm brushing against yours, the rasp in her voice as she pronounced each word, the way she inhaled between phrases. â You felt guilty for desiring her this way, especially at this exact moment.
Shame. Guilt.
Your soaked folds throbbed with ache, your knees pressed against the cold floor â you were paying for your sins, and the devil knelt beside you.
- "Amen." - It was the last word you spoke before she ran a gentle hand down your back and stood up. - "That was wonderful, wasnât it? I can feel Godâs presence here." - She smiled, extending her hand to help you up. - "Alright, now itâs time to rest. Lie down, and Iâll apply the essential oil on you." - She turned, slipping a hand into her bag to retrieve the small bottle.
Honestly, you wanted to plead for her touch â to put an end to this unbearable torment â but at the same time, you felt like the most unworthy soul alive. She was doing all of this out of care and concern⊠right?
You lay down as she instructed. She poured a bit of oil onto her fingers and rubbed it slowly onto your wrists. - "This will help you sleep tonight, I promise, darling." - Her voice was gentle, almost a whisper. - "One last spot, and weâre done." - She released your wrists, giving you no time to protest before lifting the hem of your shirt, and slipping her hand underneath. Her fingers trailed just above your chest, massaging slowly. The motion caused the delicate fabric of your shirt to brush against your hardened nipples â she must have noticed. Just a few centimetres more, and she would be cupping your breast.
You couldnât contain it, pressing your legs together, seeking any friction where you craved it most, a quiet moan escaped your lips.
- "Youâre so good for me. My good girl." - Her eyes locked onto yours as she smiled. - Weâre finished."
- "Goodnight, Y/N. I hope you have sweet dreams." - She stood up and left, leaving you there, needy and desperate. And you could swear that just before turning away, her gaze lingered on the damp spot forming at the center of your pajama shorts.
----
You slept peacefully, like an angel, and for that, you couldnât hold it against Wanda. She had been right. However, that was the only credit she deserved. Last night had been a whirlwind of emotions and desires, forbidden ones. No matter how much your body craved her or how, in fleeting moments, you believed she might feel something for you too, none of it mattered. It was wrong.
Perhaps God had heard your prayers because your day went wonderfully well. In the morning, you had breakfast with Peter and Cassie. In the afternoon, you were in charge of the arts and painting activity group. Time flew by in the company of the children â so much fun and laughter. You even had the chance to teach them about recycling and how discarded materials could be turned into toys.
Everything was going perfectly â too perfectly. Until Monica approached you. Simply put, one of the church volunteers, an older woman named Sharon, requested a private room, claiming that her roommateâs snoring was unbearably loud. At first, you thought Monica was asking you to check the accommodation list for an available room, but then it clicked. She was actually asking you to give up your room for Sharon. Well, fine. It was a bit inconvenient, but you didnât mind too much. After all, no one deserved to share a room with a noisy sleeper. However, the proposed solution for your lodging took you entirely by surprise â Monica suggested that you move into Wandaâs room.
You had no excuse to refuse. What could you possibly say? "Iâm having forbidden thoughts about a religious woman and I think Iâm losing my mind?" So, you had to accept it.
--
You didnât have much to carry to your new dorm, or rather, Wandaâs dorm. Even so, Agatha offered to help with your belongings since Wanda had given her the key to unlock the room for you, as she was tied up with something else. Youâd be lying if you said you werenât a little disappointed that Wanda wasnât here.
You stepped into the room, a wave of anxiety settling in your stomach. It was nearly the same size as a single dorm, the only difference being two twin beds separated by a nightstand. You couldnât help but picture Wanda sleeping there and wondered why she had a shared room all to herself.
Agatha walked in right after you, lingering by the door for a moment before heading straight to the window above the beds, pushing it open to let in some fresh air.
- âFeel free to put your things in the wardrobe, Wanda wonât mind,â - she said with confidence, settling onto Wandaâs bed.
You nodded in agreement, carefully placing your suitcase on a table near the wardrobe, mindful not to knock over the items already there. Then, you quietly began unpacking your few pieces of clothing.
Agatha decided to break the silence and asked - âY/N, have you ever sinned?â
A strange question, you thought, but maybe not so much, considering the place you were in. You took a few extra seconds to think of a response. - âMm⊠I guess everyone has sinned at some point, right?"
She let out a laugh. - âSmart answer, darling. But have you ever sinned in Godâs house?â
You froze in front of the wardrobe. Did I hear that right? You wondered to yourself. A pang of guilt tightened in your throat as if she knew some secret youâd been hiding. - âMm⊠I donât think I understand. You mean in church?â - you lied, feigning innocence as you resumed putting your things away.
You could feel her gaze on you, the heat creeping up your neck as she studied you. - âNever mind. Youâre still too pure, arenât you?â - she chuckled again, but this time, there was something more suggestive in her tone. - âAnyway, itâs good that youâll be keeping Wanda company here. Sheâs been down all day.â
Agatha was right. Your afternoon had been busy with group activities, but in the few moments you glanced around and caught sight of Wanda, she seemed⊠indifferent. For a moment, you told yourself she was just overwhelmed with tasks or maybe, just maybe, you werenât as interesting to her anymore, not enough for her to seek you out in a crowd. Whatever the case, something had changed.
- âReally? What happened to her?â - you asked, trying not to sound too concerned.
- âYeah, she wonât be able to attend the kidsâ farewell or the final mass tomorrow since she has to leave in the morning,â - Agatha replied, idly twirling a strand of her hair before continuing. - âThatâs a shame. Sheâs always loved the last day, but unfortunately, she has to go back to Westview to take care of her boys.â
- âBoys??â - you asked, almost cutting her off as she finished speaking. There was no doubt she noticed how quickly the topic had caught your attention.
- âYeah, her boys. Theyâre adorable. Too bad I canât say the same about their father,â - she replied as if it were common knowledge. Common to everyone except you.
You put away the last of your clothes and stared at the back of the wardrobe. Agatha had just dropped a fact you werenât prepared to hear. You felt pathetic for ever indulging in your own fantasies, a slow-burning frustration creeping in, frustration at yourself. Wanda wasnât to blame for any of this. It was all in your desperate mind. âJust one more night here, then youâll be gone. You can do this. Youâre here for the kids.â You kept repeating it in your head as you turned to zip up your suitcase, eager to leave the room. But in your emotional haze, you pulled the zipper too forcefully, causing the suitcase to shift and knock over a few nearby objects, sending them tumbling to the floor.
- âShit,â - you muttered, frustration slipping out before you could stop it.
- âOh God, everything okay over there?â - Agatha asked, craning her neck to check.
- âYeah, yeah, sorry for the language. Iâm just a bit clumsy,â - you said, quickly crouching down to pick up what had fallen.
The moment you saw what had fallen, you silently prayed not to be cursed. Lying there was a red hardcover notebook and Wandaâs Bible. You carefully picked them up and placed them back on the table. But, as luck would have it, one of the Bibleâs pages had crumpled from the fall. Hoping to smooth it out, you opened it where a bookmark had been placed.
There were countless handwritten notes and highlighted passages. The sight warmed your heart. Wanda was truly a devoted woman. But then, one message stood out.
It was written in red ink:
âFather, forgive me;
For I have sinned;
This love isnât holy;
But Iâm too far in.â
Your eyes widened. You were about to read it again when you felt a hand on your shoulder.
- âY/N? Are you sure youâre okay? Have you finished unpacking?â - Agatha asked.
You quickly shut the Bible, placing the small notebook on top of it. In one swift motion, you grabbed your suitcase from the table and turned to face her.
- âIâm fine, and everythingâs set. We can go.â - You forced your best fake smile before striding toward the door, eager to leave.

Astrology observations đ« âïž đ«
Credit: @astroismypassion
đ« Capricorn Moon native, I noticed, go not literally after older people, but those that are more ADVANCED in life than them. They go for someone who has is almost finishing high school, when they just started out. Or for someone who is already in college or going for masters, when they have started college. Later, in adulthood, these native hang with people or go for a partner that has higher salary than them, has a better positioned or better paying job.
đ« Yes, I would agree with astrology community about Cancer Sun men being prone to go for younger women than them. But I beg to differ, this is only, if they don't have Aquarius/Capricorn influence in their Natal chart. Such as if they have Sun Uranus aspect, Capricorn IC, Capricorn/Aquarius Moon, Venus at an Aquarius/Capricorn degree or in the 10th or 11th house.
đ« Planet Neptune in astrology in general indicates where you are likely to experience confusion, the things you are unclear about or area about which you have misconceptions. But in more simplistic astrology, to me this planet literally explains »things you don't know about«. Neptune in the 2nd house: you don't know how high of a salary you want or you don't know your values, because you haven't consciously thought about that before. Neptune in the 5th house: you don't know how your ideal date would look like. Neptune in the 7th house: you don't know which kind of committed partner you desire. Neptune in the 12th house: you don't know what to do with yourself in your alone time/when you are just by yourself. Neptune in the 1st house: you donât know your full, real identity, personality.
đ« Capricorn Moon/Saturn in the 4th house/Moon Saturn aspect native, I would argue even some with Aquarius Moon, Moon Uranus aspect, have really minimalistic room, with little dĂ©cor, not much colour, because at home their personality was restricted or wasnât fully allowed to be express due to parental figures often overpowering them. So as a result, their own room lacks character, personality, it can look dull or lifeless.
đ« I noticed in real life, there is always Scorpionic influence over the Moon, in people who form and join a friend squad or form a close-knit group of friends. But then I found a famous celebrity example. In friend circle of Taylor Swift (so called Taylorâs Squad in mid-2010) all had Scorpionic Moons. Actress Hailee Steinfeld, who was part of Taylorâs Squad has Moon at 8 (Scorpio) degree, model Gigi Hadid has Moon at 20 (Scorpio) degree, model Ruby Rose has Moon trine Pluto, actress Sarah Hyland has Moon square Pluto, singer Lorde has Moon quintile Pluto.
đ« If you have both Pisces and Aries over a relationship house, such as over the 7th house, even dating house the 5th house, but also over more emotional houses such as 4th, 8th house, but also 2nd house, you might say or think about yourself that you are a self-proclaimed hopeless romantic, when in fact I noticed these natives desire a partner who will go along with whatever they suggest. So someone flexible and compromising. These people take it personally, if you donât accept or like their suggestion, like they start questioning, if you are even âtheir personâ, their soulmate.
đ« No one talks about how Venus Saturn aspect/Capricorn Venus/Venus in the 10th house/Venus at a Capricorn degree (10, 22) people are really tough on themselves and daily put a lot of pressure on themselves in all areas of their life. They rarely enjoy life and just let loose before the first Saturn Return (so before the age of 30). These people donât play about their ambition. They put in as much work as possible before the age of 30. One celebrity example singer Selena Gomez (Venus at 10 (Capricorn) degree) talked about how she took everything so seriously in her life, career and rarely took time off just for herself.
đ« Pisces Moon/Moon Neptune aspect/Moon at a Pisces degree (12, 24), even Pisces Venus, natives actually desire a âlow maintenanceâ partner, someone that actually doesnât need them that much in their life. So someone who will give them a lot of space, will be independent in their own life, not needing always being together, will be okay with not answering messages right away and with occasional ghosting. But they are most often masking that wish with having high standards or being non-committal.
đ« Libra Venus natives are overlooked for how progressive they actually are! These people truly desire an EQUAL partner on all levels (financial, physical, career, family). For example, men with this placement, might not feel treated with their partner earns more than them. They pick up household chores, cooking, cleaning at home and donât mind it.
đ« I always recommend people when they feel challenged by a sign, to look at the opposite sign of that particular sign for guidance, help or what to do to better themselves. For example, you feel challenged by your Aries Moon that you have in your Natal chart. Look at Libra, what you need to work on the most in order to have better quality connections with family, close friends and lovers is to become more flexible, create balance within, become more compromising, diplomatic, cooperative and a better listener. And you can do that with every personal planet position in your Natal chart.
đ« Forget Leo Venus, they are not compliment-starved, but have you seen Pisces Moon/Pisces Venus? Itâs under-rated how much these people want to be complimented, acknowledged and appreciated, their whole vibes changes, if you compliment them.
đ« The more I look into astrology with the time that goes by, the more I realize what we already are, what we are used to is represented by our Moon sign. We grow into traits of our Sun sign in adulthood and grow more comfortable with the traits of our Rising sign after the age of 30. For example, you have Aries Moon, you already know you struggle with motivation, you might be used to not finishing projects, you are used to conflict, tension and irritation in your environment. If you have Cancer Sun, you are only now learning how to healthy express and show emotions. If you have Sagittarius Rising, you will be more open, spontaneous, travel more, educate yourself more after the age of 30.
đ« If you struggle with purpose, meaning in your life or with making major life decisions, always work with your North Node. Look at North Node like direction or guidance. For example: you want to return to college, higher education at an older age, but youâre scared if you want to do it or not. Then you see you have Virgo/Gemini/Sagittarius North node or North Node in the 3rd/6th/9th house, Jupiter North Node aspect or North Node at Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius degree (3, 6, 9, 15, 18, 21, 27) in your Natal chart. You totally should do it, because itâs part of your life purpose shown by your North Node, NN shows what you feel your purpose in this lifetime is deep in your soul.

Sam applied for colleges including ones in alternate dimensions (some have actual programs) so she could be who she is without worrying about hiding big parts of herself.
Like her liminalness and more importantly her Gothness. She picked worlds with powers so she wouldnât be so odd and colleges in places that she would fit right in.
Three places accepted her and she decided on the one with the biggest vegan/ vegetarian community.
Danny told her that he was going to go a head of her to scope each place out to help her decision. He came back with detailed notes and pictures with help from people of the alternate dimensions.
(One college is from their world so it was the quickest but with the least to none vegan community)
So imagine a portal opens up and Danny steps out and walks around asking questions. He talks to and meets a nice guy named Tim who directs him to the college he is looking for and even offered to take him!
He gets in a car with him with no hesitation or anything (that was a little worrying for how trusting he is). They talk and he explains what heâs doing in Gotham (âthatâs the name of this place? Oh of course Sam picked it besides the vegan community! Ha!â)
Tim mentions his little brother being in the same college and apart of the vegetarian community and will introduce him before touring the college. (Tim and Damian are keeping an eye on this guy with the others listening on comms.)
IDK how to turn this into Dead Serious but I like to think Danny tends to give gifts of either things heâs made or things he thinks the person would like. Mostly weapons to protect oneâs self.
Anyways, Danny is asked if he will be going to college with Sam, but he just gives them a sad smile and said there wasnât any point.
âWhy?â
âWell I wanted to be an astronaut but I canât pass the physical exam and then I couldnât really keep my grades up IâŠ. Donât know what Iâll doâŠ. Itâs my own faultâŠ. â
They call bs because heâs shown heâs very smart. Theyâve already established heâs not a threat (heâs too nice and stuff), so it wouldnât be a bad thing if they somehow helped him.
Anyways he leaves after helping him and hoping Sam picked their world and even if she didnât, that they come visit with Danny.
âââ-
Thatâs all I can think of at the moment. Danny was completely open and honest because he thought that sense there were a lot of heroes and powered people (he cried at hearing about meta protection laws as he would classify as one and the thought of being a person againâŠ. At his friends and family being peopleâŠ.. he so so so wants to visit again even if Sam doesnât pick this place.) and that itâs safe and she would have protectionsâŠ..
Stuff like that.

Trouble maker || Alessia Russo x reader
Request | Masterlist
Summary Bubba gets into trouble at school for the first time which means itâs the first time you and Alessia have to deal with consequences of bubbaâs actions
A/N Part of the A New Adventure universe
âHello?â You asked, picking up your phone.
âHiya, this is Miss Carter, Florenceâs TA. Thereâs been a bit of an incident and weâd like it if you and Mrs Russo could come have a meeting with us.â
âOf course. Is Florence okay?â You questioned, panic running through you.
âYes, everythingâs fine. No oneâs hurt but we just need to discuss something with you.â
âOkay, weâll be there in half an hour.â You told her
âThank you, Mrs Russo. Iâll see you soon.â
You put your phone down, rushing out of the changing rooms.
Youâd finished training earlier, having tweaked your ankle in training and Renee telling you to sit out for precaution.
âLess! Alessia!â You shouted from across the field but still you got no response.
You ran more towards them, despite the pain in your ankle.
âLess!â
âHiya, love. I thought you were heading back home.â
âI was, until I got a call from Wrens teacher. We need to go to the school and have a meeting with them.â You explained
âAbout what? Is Wren okay?â
âWren is fine but they need to talk to us about something. We need to leave.â
âYou two go. Our teamâs little gooner comes first.â Renee said, overhearing your conversation.
âThank you, Renee. Weâll see you tomorrow.â Alessia told her before running towards the changing rooms, assuming you were running behind her.
âLessi! I canât run. My ankle hurts.â You said, Alessia picking you up bridal style before running to the changing rooms with you in her arms.
Alessia quickly showered - the quickest showers in shower history - before changing and getting your stuff.
Alessia drove you both to Wrens school, making it just in time.
âLetâs see what our Wrens been up to.â Alessia said, taking your hand in hers as you walked into the reception area.
âHi Mrs Russos. If you could just follow me.â Florenceâs actual teacher - Mrs Cooke - told you, guiding you through to a separate meeting room where Wren was sat - her face red and blotchy, tear stains down her cheeks.
Your heart broke as you set eyes on your five year old.
You and Alessia took a seat on either side of wren.
âSo, weâve had a bit of an incident this morning.â Mrs Cooke began, Wrenâs head falling as tears began to form in her eyes. âA classmate of Florenceâs said a comment and in retaliation, Florence punched said child. Now, weâve dealt with this said child and theyâve gone home for not only their injury, but also for their comment towards Wren. We understand that Florence may have had a lot of anger towards this child but violence is not accepted or tolerated in our school.â
âOh, WrenâŠâ you whispered, wren not looking up as her head continued to hang with shame. âIâm so sorry this has happened. I can assure you this will never happen again.â
âBoth of them have apologised to one another and the other childâs parents are fine with the situation and wonât be taking it any further. I would suggest you take Wren home, I think itâs been a crazy day for her.â Her teacher said and you and Alessia nodded in agreement.
âThank you.â Alessia told her, standing up before you walked out with Florence.
The three of you walked to the car in silence.
âMama, mummy, are you angry at me?â Wren asked as she got in the car.
âIâm angry and disappointed, Wren. What did they say to you to make you punch them?â You asked
âHe said that you and mummy were bad footballers and that girls canât play football.â Wren told you both, a proud look appearing on Alessiaâs face as she continued to drive.
âAnd because he said this, you punched him?â
Florence nodded in response
âAuntie le said that if anyone said something or did something bad to me, I should punch them.â Wren explained, you rolling your eyes at the justification.
âRight, and you decided to listen to auntie le and punch him? Why didnât you go tell a teacher? You canât just hurt people, wren.â
âAuntie leâs always right though. And you and mummy not bad footballers.â
âYeah but Wren, youââ you began but Alessia cut you off.
ââLove, she was only protecting us.â
âI donât care, Alessia. She still hurt someone and she canât do that. Wren, youâre grounded for two days. No iPad, no TV. Got it?â You told her and she nodded.
âGood. And when we get home, youâre going to your room for five minutes.â
The rest of the way home was silent, none of you saying another word.
When you arrived at home, Wren went up to her room, leaving you and Alessia alone.
âBaby, she was only protecting us. She didnât mean anything by it.â
âLess, she punched a kid. She canât be doing that. She hurt him. Can you imagine if that was the other way round and we got a call saying wren had been hurt by someone. Youâd be fuming.â You said
âToo right. No one hurts our Wren.â
âExactly, thatâs how his parents must be feeling right now. Itâs not acceptable, lessi. I need to go call le and find out when and why she told wren to punch a kid.â You said, grabbing your phone and walking towards the dining room, closing the door behind you for the quietness.
You clicked on Leahâs number, bringing the phone to your ear.
âHiya le.â
âHowâs Wren? What did she do?â
âWell, weâve had an incident where she punched a boy in her class because her auntie le told her to punch someone if they were ever mean to her.â You said, a silence occurring as you finished your sentence.
âWell⊠I did tell her that but I didnât think sheâd listen.â
âLe, youâre like her auntie, in fact you are her auntie and she listens to you more than she listens to me and less. Please donât tell her anything like that again.â You told her
âI wonât. I promise.â
âGood. Iâll see you tomorrow where Iâll be giving you a proper lecture.â You said, a smile on your face as you said it.
âOh god. Maybe I wonât go tomorrow.â
âLike vice captain Leah wonât go to training? Funny joke that is. Bye, le.â
You put the phone down, walking out of the dining room and seeing wren sat on the sofa with her iPad in hand.
âUmm, what an earth is this?â You questioned, gesturing to her iPad. âIt hasnât been five minutes. Why arenât you in your room and why do you have your ipad?â
âMummy said I could come down and watch Bluey.â Wren told you
âAlessia! I said she was grounded!â
âLove, she hasnât done anything wrong. She protected us, I donât see the big deal.â Alessia explained as you shook your head in disbelief.
âAre you kidding me? Wren, bubba, please go into the kitchen. Iâll call you through in a minute.â
Wren nodded, putting her iPad down and going into the kitchen.
âLess, how many times do I have to say it. She punched someone. If we donât show her any consequences then sheâll just do it again. Please, I need to you to be on my side otherwise sheâll grow up hating me but loving you.â
Alessia slowly nodded, agreeing with your thinking.
âThank you.â
âWren!â Alessia called her through, wren soon walking into the living room.
Alessia picked wren up and sat her on her lap.
âListen, bubba, what you did today is wrong and you canât do it again. Because of your actions, me and mama have agreed that youâre grounded for two days. If you go to training with us, youâre grounded, if you go to nana and gramps house, youâre grounded. Mamaâs spoken to auntie le and even auntie le said it was wrong. Now do you understand why youâre in trouble?â Alessia asked her
âI understand mummy. Iâm sorry.â
âItâs okay, bubba. We understand why you did it but you canât hurt people.â You added, hugging her tightly.
âI not listen to auntie le now. She tells me bad things.â
âOkay, bubba.â You laughed, running a hand through her hair.
âCan I still colour?â Wren asked and you nodded with a smile.
âThank you.â You whispered to Alessia
âWeâre a team, love. You donât need to thank me.â

Oh yes new crack au the Nightingales I think that's spelled right.
Are a big family with a lot of people in it we're all related by chance they all have a family reunion though in the infinite realms imagine Batman Surprise when you get the invitation in the mail to invite him in the Justice League to the Nightingale family reunion
Turns out that Klarion and Martha Night (what her name used to be before she married Thomas Wayne) share the same deadbeat mother the same one he slept with Klarion's Mom and the same one who had Martha Night with Martha's dad
Just a dumb crack idea of Morpher and Clarion being half siblings and Bruce having to deal with that and many other cookies are like half cousins removed are like aunties and uncles that don't visit a lot because of family drama
Just imagine a big old family reunion hosted by Danny but family games everyone bringing something to eat weirdly planning plans to murder their enemies sometimes but help from younger relatives that understand things more
Teaching your family how to use is technology that they had no idea existed cuz they were born no technology zone
Goofy thing Martha and Klarion Bleak literally being comparative half siblings who win every minigame during the family reunion over here styling out children and jump rope just because they can
Love this idea. I modified the Half siblings origin in for my bit a little to something that felt would make it a little funnier. Also Thanks so much. Your ask came at the right time with my vacation and rekindled my passion for writing. I got a lot of stuff to catch up this vacation!
I was playing with the thought of adding this to my ghost king is my uncle AU but decided against it. This family constellation created for this Family Reunion AU feels better suited for it and funnier in a way.
Either way, i think I drifted of a bit into the crackish space and maybe also went a little ooc at some points... but please enjoy.
[Also an edited and probably a bit more flashed out version might get uploaded to AO3 at some point...]
------------
A Nightingale Family Reunion
Bruce blinked and stared at the glowing floating eyeball before him. That thing had appeared in the middle of a meeting with the Justice League, directly in front of him. A waspy green tail curled around a envelop, decorated with a small ghost and addressed to his a name. His actual name. Not "Batman" but "Bruce Wayne".
Now it was lucky that identity reveals had already happened with all the core members that were in this meeting. Yet it was still unnerving that someone sent him this creature, directly to him while he was with the Justice League as Batman.
It took him a moment to realize that he wasn't the only one that had a floating eyeball before him. It took only one glance to the side to see that Wonder Woman, aka Diana also had one floating before her. Though compared to him she appeared to have expected it. Thanking that creature for the delivery of an 'Invitation'.
Bruce's eyes flitted back to the eyeball before him. It stared back at him, unblinking, of course not something it could do without eyelids. Unlike Diana he had not yet reached out to grasp that envelope from the creatio. Rather contemplating what could happen if he took it and what all could result from that action.
Deep in his thoughts he did not notice how Diana approached head shaking with a smile. "I didn't realize you were part of the Family. You shouldn't keep it waiting, The messengers have jobs to do."
She didn't hesitate taking the envelope from the eyeball for him, thanking the creation before pressing the envelope into his hand. He reluctantly accepted it, determined to question her later more about this as she appeared to know more than he did about this⊠phenomenon.
And he wasn't disappointed.
'Later' as he found out Diana explained to him how 'the family' had a get-together every 100 years. A family Reunion of sorts of the entire family in a place called the 'Infinite Realms'. Bruce had wanted to question her more on this but she only patted his shoulder, explaining that not all 'mortal' family members got to take part of this event during their 'live-time'. That some would even either be too young to even remember ever taking part in one until they died.
An unsettling statement. Especially when she implied that one could still take part even after death. It was very unsettling but for now Bruce accepted that explanation. He would still try to press on more questions. His children, who all apparently also got invitations delivered by that eyeball creature (including, even Alfred), weren't much better. While some took it in stride, others went into full on investigation mode. (He stopped counting how many days Tim forwent sleep to deep dive into information about the Infinite Realms.)
And then the day of the 'Family Reunion' came.
Diana had decided to accompany them into the Infinite Realms. Helping by being their guide, his stomach sunk as a green vortex opened before them, an eyeball with a bow tie floating before it, moving like it bowed to them. He worriedly had glanced at his second oldest son, hoping this was not going to be some kind of PTSD trigger, but Jason had appeared surprisingly fine.
So despite not feeling alright with it but encouraged by Diana, that this was harmless, they stepped through the portal.
On the other side they came face to face with a giant foyer, even bigger than the one his children knew from Wayne Manor. Bruce blinked as he stared, schooling his expression into his usual stoic one as he surveyed his surroundings. Several blue skinned or greenishâŠ. people mingled with each other. Some having two legs, others something Bruce could help but describe as a ghost tail.
Then his usual stoic expression dropped as his eyes visible widened and he saw the Ghost of his mother arguing with the Witch Boy Klarion in the middle of the foyer, surrounded by others cheering them on as they apparently were holding some sort of competition and not arguing as he first thought. His children weren't fairing much better considering they knew what Martha Wayne looked like from Portrays.
Alfred appeared to be the least one faced as the older man shock his head fondly as if that wasn't an unfamiliar sight to him.
"DIANA!" A cheery voice shouted that ripped Bruce, as well as his children out of their shock as they saw a blur of black and white approach. Bruce hand instantly went to the hidden batarang in his pockets. But they could only blink as they watched the Amazonian Woman get engulfed in a bear hug that would put Dick's octopus-like hugs to shame.
"My Little Niece! So happy you made it! Oh and I see you decided to help Martha's little one to get here safely!" The white haired man grinned brightly. "I hope you're ready Dan really wants a rematch with you, you know?"
"Uncle Danny. Of course I would come, I would never miss this." Diana smiled, and Bruce decided then that this man likely wasn't hostile and let go of the batarang. Though he only relaxed slightly. "Besides I definitely didn't want to miss this one considering this is their first time."
Danny, as Bruce had noted the name, nodded sagely as he let go of Diana. "I know but it is so hard to organise a get-together with everyone. Every 100 years is the easiest to do this."
Bruce took note of that information also. His eyes darting back to his children that were now curiously watching the crowd, more interested as they judged the situation as not dangerous for the moment. But before Bruce could decided what to do, the white haired man Danny hugged him.
"So glad you could join! I was so eager to finally get to meet my grandbaby! I remember when Martha first showed you off to me! You were such a sweet little thing!" To say Bruce was shocked was an understatement. Dick and the rest of his kids started snickering when they saw how Bruce's face morphed from stoic to something akin to shell shocked for the bat.
As if on que a voice he hadn't heard in years called out "BRUCIE!" And a moment later the man was in a group hug, sandwiched between the man with white hair, claiming to be his maternal grandfather and the ghost of his mother.
"MARTHA! I WASN'T DONE WITH YOU YET!" Another familiar voice shouted. Less considered family but still shocking as Klarion marched over arms crossed as he the witch boy glared at Martha. "We are not done yet sister!"
"SISTER?!" The batkids shouted in chorus. Bruce was pretty sure this was the moment his brain blue screened.
Alfred on the other hand seemed rather amused. Though before Bruce could even give a semblance of a reaction to⊠just everything another very familiar but also strict voice shouted across the entire foyer.
"BRUCE THOMAS WAYNE!" The reaction was instant, as if it hadn't been years Bruce stood straighter, eyes darting to who shouted his full name. Wide eyed he saw the ghost of his father Thomas Wayne approachingâŠ. with a Sandale in hand.
And while his brain was currently too overwhelmed to recognise the shock of first seeing his parents (even as ghosts), and also the chaos of whatever kind of family reunion this was. A in -trained reaction was the first thing that got his body in motion, as memories of his childhood flashed across his mind. Not even his own training could have prevented this kind of reaction.
The Bat-kids on the other hand watched stunned as there was only a second of Bruce seeing the Ghost of Thomas Wayne with a stern expression and a sandal in hand before the man they knew as Batman. Stoic, unmoving and unphased, emotionally constipated Batman. Hightailed it and ran, the expression of a child getting caught with their hand in the cookie jar plastered across the running man's face.
Klarion bursted out laughing, Martha chuckled amused, the smile of a caring mother hidden behind her hand and Alfred he looked even fonder, openly chuckling. All the while the ghost of Thomas Wayne chased after his son shouting of "WHAT IN THE NAME OF THE ANCIENTS WERE YOU THINKING DROPPING OUT OF MEDICAL SCHOOL! WHAT KIND OF EXAMPLE ARE YOU FOR YOUR OWN CHILDREN! ONE OF THEM IS EVEN A HIGHSCHOOL DROPOUT! EVEN HARVEY AND HARLEY HAVE A DEGREE!"
The other guests of this reunion didn't seemed bothered at all and even Diana shook her head as she excused herself in search for her Uncle Dan that apparently wanted a rematch. It took a moment for the Batkids but once the shock settled their attention instantly got drawn to their grandmother starting arguing with Klarion about some game they had to finish.
"UhâŠ. how are you two siblings?" Jason, the brave soul asked, while his sibling seemed to still try to catch up with things. Maybe Jason was just better in these pack that thought for later moments, to recover the fastest.
"Oh this is your Great Uncle Klarion my dears. My halfbrother." Martha smiled at them as she warped her arms around Klarions shoulder, pinching the Witch Boys cheek. Which looked comical in a way as Martha appeared as a full grown adult while Klarion⊠was well Klarion.
"Stop that." Klarion hissed swatting at Martha and Danny laughed at his two children.
"Yea but⊠how?" Tim finally stammered out finding his voice once he logged a lot of his thoughts away for later. There was just too much to unpack at once.
"So wellâŠ" Martha starts before pausing. "This here is my mom. Danny. Yes Mom, the entire family calls him mom because of his tendency to mother hen over us all."
Danny had the gall to look offended and was about to interrupt his daughter before a hand clapped over his mouth a woman that looked a lot like him leaning over his shoulder grinning mischievously. "Oh, are we explaining family relations? I am Danielle by the way, your great grand aunt. You kids can call me Ellie."
Dick's mind was starting to spin but he nodded, sharing a look with his siblings.
"So Marha is the daughter of Danny's wife. The one he fell in love with and married when he chose to give a mortal life another chance. And Klarion? Is also Danny's son but well..." Ellie smiles mischievous like she knew a conspiracy they didn't. "...some things appear to be very much in the family."
"What does that imply" Damian ask eyes sharp as he noticed the glance towards him.
"Well Klarions birthmom is a deadbeat, somehow got Danny to sleep with her and then dropped Klarion off with him years later when he had just married again and had Martha." Ellie grind and suddenly the entire Batkids started with a strange feel of Deja vu, while Danielle grinned widely. Martha chuckled amused too and Klarion just shook his head.
Damian coughed awkwardly. The parallels to his own mother and Bruce were not lost on him. Then Jason suddenly broke out laughing, "You telling me Demon Brat isn't the only kid in the family that has a background like that!"
To their shock Martha broke out laughing now while Klarion glared at her. "Oh my! My grandchild and brother are even sharing a nickname!"
"Wait what?!" Tim spluttered, as he stared openly at Klarion. The witch boy. Someone he had fought several times by now. Who apparently was in his family also known as Demon Brat.
"Excuse me! My birth mother was at least an actual demoness! My grand nephew's mother doesn't compare to that at all!" Klarion protested, apparently offended for some reasons as Martha only laughed harder.
The bat kids could only watch in shock as Klarion and Martha started to argue like siblings while Danny ended up wrestling with Danielle to get the hand of his mouth. Meanwhile Bruce was still getting chased around by Thomas Wayne for dropping out of medical school and Alfred watched Klarion and Martha with a nostalgic fondness none of them could explain as of right now.
But one thing was clear, this family reunion, that apparently happens every 100 years would hold a whole lot more shocking reveals for themâŠ.
