Valerie Sale Boosted by New Beach Club Concept
Valerie Sale Boosted by New Beach Club Concept
Details of a stunning new Beach Club concept have been released for 85.10 superyacht Valerie.
Currently listed for sale by IYC agent Richard Gray, the Lurssen superyacht is one of the uniquely distinguishable gems of the brokerage market. Built in 2011 by the esteemed German shipyard, Valerie is a statement of elegance from designer Espen Øino, who has rated the superyacht among his greatest masterpieces.
Speaking to Superyachts.com last summer, Espen stated that Valerie is “on her way to becoming a lasting design” and that she is “one of the most beautiful boats we have done with Lurssen.” Now, thanks to the combined efforts of Lurssen, ThirtyC Yacht Design and IYC, this classic superyacht has been given a boost with a new Beach Club concept that will see her further stand the test of time.
British design house ThirtyC has created a serene space that would be added to Valerie’s large stern area to provide a breath-taking water’s edge base. The concept features a unique glass ceiling that creates both day and night atmosphere from light coming through the swimming pool above. For new owners, the concept remains customisable to their interests, with removable seating and the option to install gym facilities and storage for additional toys.
“The addition of the beach club to Valerie creates another key guest area,” said Rob Armstrong, Director of ThirtyC Yacht Design. “The space allows for both guest arrival and dismemberment along with a relaxation space and can be turned into an entertainment area as required, creating a truly multifaceted area for all to enjoy.”
Comprehensive Beach Clubs are more and more a requirement for modern superyachts. Through this development, IYC says that prospective owners have the chance to upgrade Valerie with little investment compared to a new build. “Back in 2007, when Valerie was drawn on paper, a beach club was not a major area of interest for that generation of owners,” explains Richard Gray, IYC Sales Broker and Central Agent for Valerie. “With the inclusion of the beach club, it could be the missing piece that buyers are looking for, that brings Valerie in line with current new build launches and, in most cases, outweighs the brokerage market competition.”
Alberto Perrone Da Zara, Sales Director for Lurssen Refit, explained the motivation behind the trend for large Beach Clubs, returning to the basics of the ocean experience. “Independently from the size of the yacht, people just want to spend more time closer to the one element that makes yachting possible… water! As yachts go up in size, the craving for water grows more and more, and extra space means the possibilities for beach clubs are exponentially bigger.”
In the build up to last year’s boat show season, Valerie released a video that revealed for the first time the exquisite Reymond Langton interiors. More recently, IYC announced a major price reduction of €10,000,000 that made Valerie the lowest priced Lurssen over 70-metres. Considering the all-star team behind her design and delivery, and the exciting potential she has for the future, Valerie is a dream for any superyacht owner.

The Best Superyacht Concepts of 2019
The Best Superyacht Concepts of 2019
At the forefront of innovation and creativity worldwide, the superyacht industry continues to deliver ground-breaking designs of the next generation. Design studios and shipyards across the industry share a drive to take on ever more challenging projects, leading to exciting concepts that stir the imagination. We handpick some of the most forward-thinking and inspiring designs that have come to light over 2019.
Valkyrie
Where better to start than the blueprint for the world’s largest ever superyacht?
At beginning of the year Chulhun Park, now Chief Designer of Latitude Yachts, spoke to Superyachts.com about his gigantic 229m concept, Valkyrie. To say that this concept is unconventional is an understatement. More than her pure size, Valkyrie presents a complete reinvention of the notion of yachting. Valkyrie’s non-rectilinear shapes and curved lines have been intricately penned to reflect both sunlight and moonlight, creating harmony with the nature that surrounds her.
It is not just the profile of this superyacht that redefines traditional notions. Valkyrie’s function, described by Park as a “floating entertainment hub”, is truly unique. Fitted with a casino, theatre, gallery and convention hall, Valkyrie is intended to be open for public access and for an owner this offers a promising return on investment.
Developed in collaboration with Palmer Johnson where Park previously worked as Senior Exterior Designer, Valkyrie is no doubt one of the most ambitious projects the industry has seen.
SY300
Philippe Briand’s 90-metre megayacht concept is both an aesthetic and engineering masterpiece. Using his experience working on renowned sailing yacht projects such as Vertigo and Sybaris, Briand has reverted to the use of carbon fibre masts on this latest project, while a sleek design certainly hasn’t impacted the enormous exterior spaces on board.
The most admirable feature of SY300 is her self-sufficiency. As the industry moves into a new chapter dominated by efficient designs for the protection of the environment, Briand’s SY300 is fully wind-propelled with a remarkable hydrodynamic efficiency. It may seem strange to praise a sailing yacht for being efficiently powered, but over the years many sailing yachts have effectively become motor yachts with sails. With this concept, Philippe Briand has responded to the demand for efficiency in the industry and simultaneously restored the authenticity of the sailing experience.
Project Lotus
Another from the mega-sailing yacht category, Royal Huisman’s dual-ship Lotus concept is for the thrill-seekers. Project Lotus offers a unique sailing experience and comprises of a package of 2 superyachts.
The first, and the mothership, is an 88m Two Mast DynaRig sailing vessel designed with smart innovation including solar technology in the masts that reduce the environmental impact while enhancing performance. The imposing 88m superyacht is accompanied by a 70m Shadow support vessel built for versatility. While hosting the owner’s arsenal of toys and equipment, the Shadow vessel is a visual complement to the DynaRig superyacht and can also be used independently for adventures to remote locations.  The integration of these two superyachts aims to get the best out of both motor and sailing experience, and clearly acknowledges the owner-driven trend towards more explorer-type vessels capable of reaching new destinations.
The stunning lines of both these yachts was the work of British design studio ThirtyC, and Royal Huisman has praised the innovative design. The Dutch shipyard has stated that Lotus is “a masterpiece offering complete customisation, open spaces, reduced complexity in terms of both rigging and crew as well as an engineering package that fits both luxury and agility on the water.”
After a successful presentation at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, we hope to see this captivating design come to life in the not-so-distant future.
VIS
Francesco Paszkowski revisits the Fincantieri Group’s military history with this alternative superyacht concept.
For over 230 years, the Fincantieri Group delivered all naval vessels from aircraft carriers to destroyers and submarines. Capturing and translating this history into a superyacht, Paszkowski has created what can quite simply be described as a luxurious battleship.
The 80.80m VIS is something the superyacht industry has never seen before, offering a unique experience far removed from the traditional white vessels. Her formidable military styled exterior provides a dominant figure on the waters, complete with shrewdly thought out exterior spaces that maximises liveability. Inside the superyacht, the rugged profile hides a bright and elegant layout, a contrasting air of serenity and sophistication opened up by large panoramic windows throughout.
The 6-deck concept makes innovative use of spaces, with folding-out terraces and wide social alfresco areas on the exterior. A solar-panelled roof on the wheelhouse bridge ensures guests can enjoy the bar and large pool while being protected from the sun. While styling has been kept minimalistic for a sophisticated feel, there are touches that show the ingenuity of the architecture at hand. One such feature is the winter garden, surrounding the scenic lift in the wide lobby. The upper deck, dedicated exclusively to the owner, is fitted with a gym and a large sheltered terrace. Direct access from the owner’s stateroom to the helipad is provided through two stairways on either side of the main deck lobby.

Top100: Royal Huisman’s Dual-ship Lotus Concept
Top100: Royal Huisman’s Dual-ship Lotus Concept
Amongst the headline new-builds and bustle of broker activity during the Monaco Yacht Show, a certain stand on Port Hercule was causing a ripple in the ocean. Royal Huisman’s Lotus concept is a unique take on the sailing experience, a package of two superyachts, and is something the Dutch yard hopes will stand as a blueprint for large sailing vessels of the future.
The Lotus concept comprises of one 88m DynaRig sailing yacht and a 70m companion vessel, which rather than act as a support vessel instead offers versatile functions and can be used as a mothership.
“LOTUS is a concept whereby two vessels are designed, built and operated in a totally integrated manner to provide the most comprehensive range of superyacht experiences and services ever offered to owners and their guests by the superyacht industry.”
Designed by British studio ThirtyC in collaboration with Dykstra Naval Architects, the Two Mast DynaRig sailing yacht looks to bring the pure and natural sailing thrill that can be lost in larger sized yachts. Through its highly efficient rig system and advanced technology installed in the yacht’s construction, propulsion and power management, Lotus offers speed and precision sailing to rival the best in the world.
The DynaRig system creates a safer environment for crew and guests as the sails can be managed without lines or winches, making the operation of the yacht seamless while also allowing guests to enjoy all the spaces of the Lotus in complete security. The advanced technology has been designed with attention to the superyacht’s environmental impact as well as performance. The use of smart innovation such as solar technology in the masts allows Lotus to sail from her berth without the use of an engine.
The 88m superyacht boasts ample open spaces with a 14.6m beam, while on the interior focused lighting and intricate finishes create a relaxing and clam environment throughout. With a private owner’s suite and accommodation for 16 guests, Lotus has plenty of facilities to give guests a unique experience. One standout feature is the open air theatre, projected onto the forward sails and visible from the entire top deck.
The 70 metre companion motor yacht completes the concept with incredible versatility. Further to hosting the owner’s personal fleet of toys and equipment, from tenders to helicopters and even submarines, the explorer yacht can operate as a mothership and is built for adventures to remote destination. The 70m Lotus companion is a visual complement to the DynaRig, and offers the same standard of luxurious accommodation to that found on the sailing yacht.
Royal Huisman’s Lotus concept is a reflection of an industry whose clientele are demanding new, limitless possibilities. Pushing the boundaries of innovation and redefining what can be expected from a sailing yacht, Lotus was a head-turning exhibit at MYS and we hope to see her come to life in the future.

Editor's Note: Top 100 & Other Ocean Giants
Editor's Note: Top 100 & Other Ocean Giants
Never in Superyachts.com history has our newsletter been so dominated by the over 86-metre market than it has been this week. From Lurssen's 95-metre delivery M/Y Madsummer to Royal Huisman's Top 100 concept 88m Project Lotus, the Top 100 felt as exciting as ever before, and marks a period of marvelling accomplishment for the industry.
At a glance, a Top 100 contender from the yards of Lurssen, doesn't come as much of a surprise. The masterminds behind Flying Fox and Tis, Madsummer marks the third Top 100 delivery of the year for the yard. Ranking at an impressive 63rd spot, she signifies a yard well prepared to take on any brief, however demanding. Peter Lurssen shared; "The Owner’s brief was demanding, however, we believe our engineering expertise has surpassed his wishes to own a yacht that many years from now will be timeless and yet still ahead of its time".
Onto equally exciting news, it seemed Florida-based Voyager Maritime Alliance Group made its own stamp to the Top 100 in an unlikely form to say the least.  Following a three year conversion from a commercial vessel, the custom 90m M/Y Voyager has becomes the first fully-integrated ocean-going superyacht, boasting some impressive unique innovations. The superyacht previously known as the 'The Big Project' she seems to have earned a starling place as a technologically advanced, cutting edge Top 100 member of today.
Project Lotus, an 88-metre concept was this week excitingly revealed by Royal Huisman. If built, the project, penned by ThirtyC design studio, will become the largest ever yacht by the shipyard, since the build of Athena in 2004. We look forward to following up on this topic further, and hope to see her sleek, sophisticated silhouette come to life.
In theme of this week's newsletter, we turned our attention to the Amels giant Aurora Borealis. She may be 67.7m and shy of a place on the Top 100, but nevertheless marks an impressive 2019 delivery for the Dutch shipbuilder. With an iconic Tim Heywood exterior, she encompasses a clean, striking body with plenty to look forward to inside by Winch Design.
Another giant turning heads this week was the refit of 65-metre Rahil by KRM. This included important work which had previously been abandoned by other shipyards, warranting KRM to declare this as “one of the most important projects we have ever delivered”.
In the final installment of our series on green yachting, we speak to renowned firm Winch Design about the steps that builders and designers can take to make superyachts cleaner and more energy efficient. The design team shed light on how a historically problematic industry is working hard to turn its environmentally unfriendly reputation on its head. Find out more here.
We finished the week turning our attention towards two destinations with lots to look forward to. First was Barefoot Cay, the celestial Caribbean retreat on the Honduran Island of Rotan, perfect for superyacht travellers looking for stripped back island living for yachts up to 55-metres. Second was Cannes, as we geared up for the yachting festival taking place 10-15th September 2019 inviting 542 exhibitors, 51,000 visitors and boats up to 55-metres in length; perfect for a first time buyer entering the superyacht market. Find out more here.

Project Lotus: 88m Royal Huisman in Development
Project Lotus: 88m Royal Huisman in Development
Royal Huisman has unveiled their latest project, Project Lotus, an 88-metre Dyna-Rig penned by ThirtyC design studio. Project Lotus would become the largest Royal Huisman yacht by length since the build of Athena in 2004.
The announcement of the 88m Project Lotus is complete with a 70 metre Shadow support vessel and is in development for Monaco Yacht Show 2019, where more details will be revealed. Superyachts.com is once again taking up its role as media sponsor of the MYS 2019, where the Breaking News Centre will be the best place to hear news of Project Lotus and much more.
Designed with an adventurous family in mind, Project Lotus is a concept which aims to fuse the best of both sailing and motor yachting experiences. The superyacht’s dual-mast DynaRig is the fruit of a collaboration between Royal Huisman and Naval Architects Dykstra. With both the natural sailing ecstasy provided by the DynaRig yacht, and an extra treasure trove of adventure following in the support vessel, Lotus promises to be a dream come true for a future owner.
British design studio ThirtyC, established by Rob Armstrong and Alistair Fletcher in 2015, are responsible for the design. A statement from Royal Huisman described this as a “masterpiece offering complete customisation, open spaces, reduced complexity in terms of both rigging and crew as well as an engineering package that fits both luxury and agility on the water.”
The 88 metre design shows that Royal Huisman is ever-determined to build yachts tailored to the individuality of their owners, building also bigger and more ambitious at the same time. We eagerly anticipate further information on the project during the Monaco Yacht Show.
