The Beach Scene
I mean, we’ve all discussed it a million times, a million ways. We’ve theorized what it mean for Peeta, and what it meant for Katniss.
People have written fanfic from Peeta’s POV and Finnick’s POV of that scene.
But peeps. has anyone ever discussed or written a fic about Haymitch’s live reaction to watching Katniss and Peeta’s beach kiss???
Was he like, FINALLY!!!! bittersweetly happy for them?
or more like
OH GOD MY EYES?? Dear ODDS MAKE IT STAWP ya’ll are the closest thing I will ever have to children!!! I need to wash my brain!
or??? Third reaction?
I’ve always been curious on what his response would have been.

I’m interested in hearing different interpretations of Mrs. Mellark’s motives here:
Tumblr media
Is Mrs. Mellark:
Trying to cheer Peeta up?
Taking one last opportunity to hurt Peeta?
Or
Attempting to be the first to put odds on Katniss’s Victory?

Have you seen the prequel movie? If yes🌹>>>
A. In your opinion, please rate TBOSAS movie with 1-10 scale.
(1 = I hate it, 10 = I love it.)
Things that you like :
Things that you don't like :
B. For people who also read the novel.
Your opinions about the difference between the book and the movie :
Thank you 🎼
@curiousnonny
Thank you for the question, Nonny!
A. I loved this movie so much. It is 10/10 for me.
Things that I like:
Tom Blythe's portrayal of young Coriolanus Snow!!!!!
Rachel Zegler's singing abilities,
Lucy Gray is a fascinating, vibrant character and Rachel Zegler did her justice,
Romance and chemistry between the actors,
Viola Davis's portrayal of Dr. Gaul,
The soundtrack,
Peter Dinklage's acting,
Jason Schwartzman as Lucky Flickerman (he was a much needed comedy relief),
Hunter Schafer's performance (as a Tigris), especially in the last scene (I think you look just like your father),
The portrayal of Tigris and Coriolanus's relationship,
The movie got the important information across - it also made me think differently about the THG's villain,
It is a fascinating character study of a villain made not born,
There were so many amazing scenes (my favourite ones include the lake escapade, Lucy singing to the snakes, the last forest scene, Coriolanus's changing into Snow),
The movie provides a great insight into character's beginnings and a amazing portrayal of human characters,
True to the events that happened in the book,
Offers a fascinating glimpse into the origins of Panem,
Memorable costuming.
Things I don't like:
It is not possible to transform the over 500 pages long book into the movie without cutting some elements, but the movie failed a little to show just how badly the tributes were treated (it seemed as if they were in the cage for a day, not a week),
The portrayal of some tributes wasn't the greatest,
The arena scenes were cut short,
The lack of symbolism (blood, white roses), which was very important in the book.
B. In my opinion, the changes were necessary. It wasn't possible to include all the events from the book into the movie. I think that the director made an amazing job choosing the scenes. The film stayed true to the book as much as it could, and is by far my favourite adaptation of THG universe.
Thanks again, @curiousnonny!

School Holidays??
Question for you all: Do you think that the kids had school holidays in the Hunger Games?
Because I seem to remember quotes from the first book whilst Katniss is in the arena where she says that school would probably be cancelled for the day just so everyone could watch the Games live. And Rue mentions that they wouldn't have to go to school during the Harvest as if getting time off was an unusual thing for them.
So what do you guys think?
@alwayseverlark @pookieh @jenniferiawrence @jlalafics @javistg @awhiskeyriver @dandelionlovesyou @endlessnightlock @pitualba2015 @daydreamingandprocrastination @mellarked-katnisseverdeen @mollyyoung @lemonluvgirl87
p.s. sorry if I missed anyone, feel free to reblog and add people. I'd love to hear as many opinions as possible.

Katniss is the kind of person to invite Peeta over for dinner and tell no one (except maybe Prim) then get pissed off when someone asks why he’s here. (Because she invited him, dummy 🤬)
Eventually people just stop asking why Peeta’s following her around like a puppy in fear of retaliation. Even when he comes stumbling out from her bedroom in the morning and continues to do so for the next thirty years.

My personal headcannon is that they say Mama and Papa. But when they become teenagers, the girl starts using mom and dad and the boy doesn't (especially with Katniss). So the girl constantly makes fun of him for being 'mommy's boy'

I adore the parallels between Peeta and Caesar. On that first interview night, Caesar saw someone who managed to get the crowd to their seat's edge in much the same way as he can. He's likely only seen that a few times in his career & that made something with this character in how he views and perceives Peeta.
While I theorise that he saw Peeta winning that whole thing on that very night, meeting him again & again in front of a camera was seeing a genius bounce off of another genius to watching a kid deteriorate in front of his eyes.
I think more than once before the war began, Caesar must have seen something in Peeta that resembled himself. There was this kid with so much talent and charisma that he could have given Caesar a run for it had he been born in the Capitol.
What did that do to Caesar? To look at a kid from the Districts and have that kid stare back? Did he recognise a younger version of himself in him—separated only by place of birth in how their chances played out? And how must it have felt to watch that mirror deteriorate in front of him?

Mr. and Mrs. Dovecote 🕊️🐍
Well, how did this happen, how did these two, Clemensia and Festus end up with each other?
Definitely not on the first sight or first anything, Festus was married to Persephone for years after graduating from university and during the following years of Coriolanus's rise to power. Yet not every teen romance lasts forever, both of them divorced on good terms or so they thought with Festus developing a drinking habit believing it was his fault/failure. The fatal day both he and Clemensia met again was during a party at the presidential estate
Clemmie was to first to notice that something wasn't alright with him and she was there for him during that time after realizing that her old irrational academy friend got himself into a fatal situation. She became his helping hand, spending more time with him than anyone else and everything from that point is a natural cause of events. He proposed to her after 2 years and took the surname Dovecote beside the common norm.🕊️
______________
Festus is now not allowed to be near alcohol within a 70-foot radius, always equipped with water.
The little tiny bean in the middle is Augustus or short August. Clemensia's “only addition to the capital society” is how she phrases it with humor. August is a lovely quite smart curious boy who loves to learn new things on his own. He’s 6 years old, born in September three months after Rosie who he is close to, even childhood best friends 🌹
The Dovecotes are the closest family to the Snows, with Clemmie regularly being over to tell Lucy Gray everything thats been going on while the kids play. It’s almost considered gossip with the first lady feeling bad that it is entertaining.

hiii!! i loved reading your d12 headcannons and was wondering if you have any for d7 or d8? :D
hey!! i so love that you've asked me this because i have headcanons for district 7 (that i've been meaning to share on here for soo long.. ) so here you go!
𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐓 𝟕 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒
i believe that while district 7 is a beautiful district, the upkeep of trees and keeping forests neat (especially after autumn/winter) is extremely taxing and would be a traditional job for everyone in the district to put their hands in during.
many people go into the lumber industry at the earliest age possible, say maybe 14-15. many parents teach their children how to be handy with axes (in the case of being reaped,) and carrying logs and timber is also a common job in most areas.
like most districts, there's a wealthy area and areas of poverty. the sear is an area populated with working class civilians (who often have okay-off living, but the separation helps in such a bustling district,) while the wealthier side is nicknamed the lacewoods (to attest to the amount of people living there.)
with a good work ethic within the district, this gives most people an inherited determination and independence when it comes to both work (and fighting in the arena.)
victors live in the canopy, a rural area where trees are plentiful and the houses built are secluded from common people (for sense of privacy and respect for their victors.)
7 doesn't exactly hold one religious belief, although some people carried their ideals through from the dark days, and therefore many are spread out and practiced.
jobs are often unisex, but district 7 has a culture of being lenient on women and children amongst dangerous/risky jobs, and will therefore keep their most capable at the helm.
definitely a community through thick and thin — when a hardship is faced, the people go through it together rather than alone.
district 7 has a past victors/fallen tributes burial site named the splinter yard. not accessible to anyone but the familes of the dead/victors themselves.

Twenty Questions (Part 4)
Summary: For Y/N’s 20th birthday Haymitch gifts her 20 questions, that he has to answer honestly, no matter what. Mentions of sex/forced pregnancy. Moves & Countermoves companion piece.
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Tumblr media
“How many…do you think?”
“Hmm?” Haymitch hums, eyeing his wife.
“Kids.” Y/N clears her throat, “how many kids do you think Snow will make us have?”
“I’d say one of each. A boy and a girl will keep the people entertained. If the next one is a boy, I think we’ll have to try again for a girl. Assuming we stay in his good graces, we’ll probably be done after that.” Haymitch shrugs a shoulder.
“I don’t know what else we can do.” Y/N rubs her hands together anxiously.
“There’s nothing else, Angel.” Haymitch sighs, “we just have to ride this out.”
Y/N nods, rubbing the swell of her belly. She’s five months along, over half way.
“Did you want,” Haymitch stumbles over the words. “How many do you want?”
Y/N lifts a shoulder. “I think being an only child might be lonely for him.” Him. Their baby. Because it isn’t about them anymore, it never will be again. “Two would be good.”
“Two would be good,” Haymitch agrees.
————————————————————————
Haymitch drinks more than he ever has.
Y/N’s belly grows. She’s tired all the time. She snaps at Haymitch and then chases after him with tears in her eyes, begging for forgiveness. “I’m sorry, I’m… I know I’m awful. I’m trying to do better.”
“You’re not awful,” Haymitch grumbles. “I’m trying too.”
“But you are! You are doing better and I’m…I feel like everyday I get worse. That’s the difference and I’m frustrated with myself. I’m frustrated at the situation and I don’t know what to do. You’re the only person here with me all the time, so you get the brunt of everything. And I know it’s not fair to you. I know you hate me for it.” How could you not?
“I need you to know that I do not hate you. I could never hate you. I see how hard this pregnancy and marriage has been for you. I’m sorry, from the bottom of my heart, if I could change it for you, I would. But I can’t.” Haymitch admits, “I can’t and it kills me.”
“It’s not hard being married to you,” she breaks off. “I’d never given a lot of thought to marriage. I didn’t necessarily want to be married. But doing it with you is easy, being with you is easy and I feel safe when I’m with you.”
“Tell me what’s wrong then, Angel. Tell me what I can do to help you. Anything you need. You just gotta give me some fucking direction here, because I am drowning in this.”
“I don’t know what I need. I feel restless all the time. I can’t sleep. I’m-”
“You’re afraid.” Haymitch gets it.
“Just…just tell me that everything’s gonna be ok.”
“It is gonna be ok. I promise.”
She closes the distance between them, relaxing into the feel of his arms around her. Holding her close, making everything ok.
————————————————————————
Things are better after that.
“Everything’s gonna be ok.”
He tells her every morning and again at night.
They decorate the nursery, they give him a name. Everest. Everest Abernathy.
By the time they mentor the games that year, Y/N is eight months along. They’ve agreed to stay in the Capitol, until the baby is born.
“You’ll have access to the best medicine known to man in our hospitals, Y/N. The same cannot be said for District Twelve.” President Snow makes her an offer that sounds more like a threat. In any event, she can’t refuse.
Their chances for a victor this year are slim to none. The female tribute is fifteen, but Y/N can spot every bone in her body. The boy isn’t much better, and only twelve.
Y/N weeps for them until she vomits. Only when she is alone, jotting notes in her tablet. She remains strong in their presence, focused. Knowing Haymitch won’t offer much help. He stopped trying and she doesn’t blame him.
She might give up too, if it didn’t mean leaving the poor tributes to fend for themselves.
It makes no difference though, both go down in the initial bloodbath. She mourns them alone, while Haymitch drowns his sorrows down at the bar.
And time passes, the same way it always has. Too fast or too slow.

Hello my dearest Everlark scholars I have a question 🙋‍♀️ I’ve been doing some planning for Where the Jabberjay flies and I’ve been myself in somewhat of a rut in regards to Katniss’ feeling for Peeta.
In Catching Fire Katniss admits that she would fall apart should Peeta die. Most readers would interpret that as a confession of love. But Katniss being Katniss- does she recognize it as a declaration/realization of love herself?? Is she still in denial and/or does she subconsciously shoved it down and ignores it once she realizes that Peeta’s been taken by the capitol? (Which is understandable) . Because on the beach, we could still have wave it away with Katniss only admitting she ‘cares deeply’ for Peeta (okay sis 🙄)
Cause the next time (I think) we properly address Katniss’s feeling for Peeta is in her talk with Finnick about Peeta sneaking up on her.
So I guess the real question is after the beach smooch, is Katniss fully aware of the depths of her feelings for Peeta, or are we still operating in the ambiguous area until her talk with Finnick?
I love Kitty to bits, but she’s messy. And I know things get hectic in MJ, especially with Katniss going mad with grief about Peeta, but I can’t seem to wrap my head around this little in between section. Like we KNOW Katniss is deeply in love and suffer int cause Peeta’s been captured (she needed to be sedated jfc) but does she know it?? 😭😭😭 It’s Katniss so I don’t genuinely know.
