hey, could I request a fic for ena dream bbq? Ena x reader who's a slightly funky version of a mars rover.

They look like the spirit/opportunity rovers for the most part, with the whole robot head and solar panel wing thing going on. But, their wheels are floating just a little off the ends of their leg thingies, and they can separate into individual pieces making up hands/feet, and their body and legs are a bit more articulated, so the reader can stand up in a more humanoid shape if they so choose.

And on their head, they have a small screen near their cameras, which they use to show emotion using emoticons, because it's a low resolution screen that pretty much only displays a few characters of text. So they just kinda go :] <:D >:/ :P BJ X0 ;3 ':2 c: D8 ',:) :7 (individually not all at once) when they are talking to people. Sometimes they display a word or a few symbols instead tho, like "there's a 37 percent chance of that happening" and their screen says 37%, or they go ??? When confused or something.

They usually stay in regular rover form while traveling, driving on their wheels, and go humanoid when they need to carry something, talk to people, or generally are in a situation where hands are useful. They do have one arm that isn't one of their wheels, but it has somewhat delicate scientific equipment in it, so they don't use it as much for everyday stuff. They also turn off their screen when they aren't actively trying to convey emotions, so usually only when alone or around people they know well and trust.

theyre working together with ena, and on the side just casually taking soil samples and pictures of interesting things. Write whatever you feel like, one shot, hc, anything, whatever you feel inspired to write. Preferably platonic, but if you wanna write a romance I won't stop you. (If you wanna add any other characters like coral glasses or Kane or something that could also be fun, even someone from the series like classic ena or shepherd, but that makes things more complicated so you very much don't have to)

While you don't recall when or where you were built, you do know your purpose: take pictures of intriguing subjects, steal soil and rock samples, etc. etc. Everything you've once done in space, you do here on this world.

But it felt less like a job and more like a hobby. Something that stimulated your circuitry and allowed you to experience "joy" (which you once thought was strictly reserved for living organisms) in everything you found.

Your creators have long since forgotten you...or maybe they all died and didn't think you'd outlive them. You had no orders to follow. No signals to relay. No real mission to accomplish.

So you took it upon yourself to join Ena and Froggy's group, wanting to have some sort of directive, even if it meant helping them accomplish whatever business called for them to do.

Some days, you'd be in the Hub, assisting Coral Glasses with her work regarding the Horse Door, faxing her blood samples and other interesting specimen you've picked up, or she might print a picture of something bizarre she found and ask for your input.

You weren't programmed with a voice (which she doesn't mind since she's not a fan of social interactions and lengthy chats). Instead, you communicate through a screen next to your cameras, which display a variety of emoticons, emojis, and symbols. It's not the greatest resolution, but it gets your point across.

Some icons are indicative of approval, some of disdain, and others...would be confusing for the average person to understand.

For Froggy? He tends to mistranslate what you're trying to say and has the nerve to ask why you made a >:( face.

For Kane? He gets it half the time.....but he's more worried about getting his coins stuck in your wheels again.

For Ena? It's no problem. She knows exactly what you mean every time, acting like she's been there since your construction, while also respecting your autonomy.

When your new and current directive became "eliminate the smoke", you thought the tasks leading to its completion would be simple.

But with Ena, it turns out to be anything but that.

In the Lonely Door, you noticed that the Uncanny Streets had a dry deserted terrain. You had a phobia of dust storms and your wheels getting stuck in sand traps, but thankfully the conditions here don't permit such occurrences. And your solar panels are always keeping your batteries charged, as it never gets dark, either--so in short, travelling around would be the least of your concerns.

While your screen initially displays nothing as you scan the environment, Ena somehow knows what you're thinking and pats the top of your head.

"This will be a great opportunity to gather vital intel and ask invasive questions!" Salesperson grins. "I can smell the opportunities from up here, my friend. Don't you?"

"That's the spirit! I couldn't have said it better myself! I vow to get to the bottom of this mysterious Gen--bAthR00M."

"🚽?"

"Ew! I didn't need to see THAT!!!" Meanie pretends to retch. "Go take 300 pictures of that cloud for me, you hunk of metal!!"

Funny enough, you don't take her demands as an insult. Your storage is like a bottomless pit, so you could hypothetically take 300 pics of one singular cloud if its shape and placement in the sky intrigued you enough.

But you'd rather stick with her and assist her with the different jobs she's been given.

You can shift between your primary vehicle mode and your more humanoid one for easy interactions with folks--although you being taller than Ena in that latter form leads to Meanie pouting and grumbling under her breath when she thinks you can't see her.

Too bad for her, as your camera/eyes can see 360.

While she talks to people (which is really them messing with her and claiming to be the boss, insulting her species, and eventually giving her something to do), you're just taking pictures of things like the giant melded into the building, the black tree without leaves that's wandering about the outskirts, or the alienlike Wanderers in the sky.

Rescuing Shoryo's pets/babies is easy, as you're able to maneuver around tight spaces and let them rest on your platform, driving them back to the horselike entity.

He felt flattered that you "delivered them to [him] on a silver platter"...which left you wondering if he intended to eat them.

Before you can question it, there's an explosion and you see Ena and the Shaman outside of the now-destroyed Seal House.

After she's given the humanboard, you discover fertile soil deposits around the streets, learning that the head can grow into a full body and help her reach higher places.

The ribcages buried within the dirt intrigued you, but oddly enough...she didn't want you to take any bone samples.

All you wanted to do was perform a light brush, a gentle abrasion on the surface. Just enough to get a microscopic calcium extract so you could determine how old it is.

You had no idea what overcame Ena when her clawed hand latches onto your delicate arm unexpectedly, threatening to damage your analyzers, drills bits, and other scientific equipment embedded into it.

It sets off internal alarms, red lights flashing across your vision, but you silence those in favor of staring at her. "🦴❌?"

"I just....don't want you to do that. It might hurt him.." Meanie's voice drops into a low whisper, something extremely uncharacteristic of her, as her mitten hand trembles and cradles the humanboard closer to her chest. Like some maternal instinct had overtaken her. "Please.."

Your screen goes dark, but you comply and leave the soil alone.

Perhaps not everything needs exploration.

hi, can i ask for advice? i think my little sister is in an abusive relationship :( she told me how a couple months back she and him were in a hotel room, he was drunk and in an argument and he beat her. shes in another town an hour away, so i rarely see her, she visits on some weekends but theyre always short visits, because i recently learned her boyfriend gets mad when she doesn't come back at a specific time. is there anyway i can help her? she depends on him for a home btw, she has no job and nowhere else to go

Yes, she is. Even if it was only once in your sister's eyes, it's possible she's hand-waving other "smaller" instances of abuse, and the abuse will escalate. You don't "accidentally" beat someone. You don't hit the people you love.

There are things you can do and things you shouldn't do. You must be patient, and you must respect her choices. This can be hard when you're watching someone you love get hurt, but please understand that her abuser has her ear far often than you do. If you condescend, demand, make ultimatums, try to forcefully intervene - you could end up with a severed relationship and no way to help her. You have to be the opposite of her abuser: kind, thoughtful, patient, slow to anger, understanding, willing to speak to truth, and above all respectful.

The fact that you still get to see her is very good. When you next see her, try to have a conversation around the abuse, but as best you can try to frame it like this: "After what you told me about what happened to you, I'm very worried about you. I'm always available to help you if you need any help." Having resources at the ready to hand to her is also good, but don't force her to take anything she doesn't want. These can be things like books, business cards for shelters, hotline numbers, etc. Again, you can't force her to take anything - respect her choices. She may want them but be nervous having them on her, and she might struggle to articulate that. If she knows you have them, she can ask for them later when she's ready.

When she talks about this or her boyfriend in general, do not correct her on anything. If she says "he loves me" don't say "no he doesn't." It is better to ask "can you love someone and hit them?" If she says "he's the only person who has my back" don't say "no he doesn't." Don't huff and say "what about me." Instead, it's better to say "I will always be here for you, no matter what." You have to be very thoughtful and considerate when you speak to her. Double-triple think what you're going to say before you say it. It's important that she sees you as someone who is willing to listen, someone who trusts her and believes her.

You can also use resources like hotlines. You can also read the books. It can never be stated enough how helpful the book Why Does He Do That? by Lundy Bancraft is to both the abused and the people who love them. Read the book, it can give you guidance.

basically it is volleyball national match between japan and argentina where reader is a huge oikawa fan but is engaged to osamu. they went to check on atsumu before the game and reader BEGS atsumu to get them a pic with oikawa in which atsumu replies with; " 'samu are you hearing this?!" and osamu goes "theyre my fiancee. believe me, im more pissed than you are." both of the twins are half-jokingly upset that reader is more happy to see oikawa but reader made it clear that they are rooting for japan!

reader ends up getting a pic with oikawa, osamu being the one taking the pic with a scowl on his face.

Hihi anon, I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get to this one ;-; If you're reading this, you should know that it's been in the back of my mind ever since you first sent it. I've always been intending to write it, and I was just waiting for the perfect inspiration. And it finally hit me! It's Olympics time baby.

Pairing: Miya Osamu x gn!reader (but... it's not really the main focus?)

"What did ya just ask me?" Osamu runs his fingers through his still-wet hair. He just stepped out of the bathroom, and you dropped a bomb on him.

"I said, do you think Atsumu can get me in to meet Oikawa Tooru tomorrow?" You bounce eagerly on the hotel bed.

"Ya do know Oikawa is on the opposite team, right?" Osamu asks slowly, and you flop back onto the bed with a groan.

"Of course, I'm not an idiot! It's just - you know I went to Aoba Johsai. I was a first year when Oikawa was a third year, so obviously I never actually met him, but my friends and I were kind of obsessed with him," You actually giggle. "Just imagine the looks on their faces when I get a photo with him!"

"It's like ya don't know my brother at all," Osamu sighs as he lifts the covers to crawl in bed. You scramble up and scoot in next to him. "Do ya know what it's gonna do to him if ya ask him that?"

"He's a big boy," You say breezily. "I think he can handle it."

Osamu just shakes his head, leaning over to turn off the lamp. "Just make sure he knows it was all your idea," He says pointedly, pulling the blanket up and settling back against his pillows.

"Just think," You sigh, snuggling your cheek against his bicep, "Tomorrow I'm going to meet the Oikawa Tooru."

"Yer already practically related to the Miya Atsumu. Isn't that enough?" He grumbles.

"He's old news," You chuckle, and Osamu huffs what could almost be considered a laugh through his nose.

"Whatever. Just get some sleep. Big day tomorrow." He presses a kiss to your lips. You settle in against his chest, but you aren't feeling very tired at all.

The next morning, Osamu grips your hand tight as you wind your way through the Olympic stadium. It's so full of people and sounds and lights, it almost makes you dizzy. Eventually, you hear Atsumu bellow your and Osamu's names.

"You're here!" He pulls you both into a bone crushing hug. "Ya all ready to cheer for me? I want ta hear ya yelling all the way on the court." He grins.

"Of course!" You say, completely sincere. "You're gonna kill it today, 'Tsumu." You sock him on the arm. He almost turns to go, but you stop him.

"Wait, 'Tsumu!" You say. "I've got a teeny, tiny favor to ask you." He narrows his eyes, and Osamu backs slightly away, as if denying any kind of association with you in this moment.

"What kinda favor?" He asks slowly. Your grin widens.

"Is there any way you can get me in to meet Oikawa Tooru?" You ask, clasping your hands in front of yourself and pasting on your best puppy dog look. Atsumu immediately swings around to glare at Osamu, who throws his hands up in defense.

"Are ya hearin' this?" He almost yells.

"I've been hearin' it for the last 24 hours," Osamu exaggerates drily. "And it wasn't my idea, 'Tsumu! Swear! Ya think I want my fiancée meetin' that pretty boy?"

Atsumu sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose for a moment. "Yer lucky I love ya," He finally bites out, and you can't hold back your excited squeak.

"Seriously?! Thanks, 'Tsumu!" You throw your arms around him, and he huffs.

"Guess we gotta hurry," He grumbles, turning on his heel. You grab for Osamu and practically drag him along behind you. Before you know it, you're surrounded with the team Argentina colors.

"Hiya," Atsumu approaches one of the team's managers and gestures to you, "Is Oikawa-san around? Got somebody that'd like to meet him."

"Oh? Someone looking for me?" At the sound of his voice, you turn, suddenly feeling like you're back in high school again, and just a little bit star struck.

"Oikawa-san!" You blurt out, "I was such a huge fan of yours in high school!" You can hear Atsumu feign a gag behind you, but you ignore him.

"No way, really?" Oikawa laughs, delighted. "I don't always get to meet such dedicated fans." He turns and rattles off something in Spanish to someone behind him. She produces a glossy photograph, and he scribbles his signature across it.

"Oh, wow," You gush, carefully gripping the photo so as not to smudge the fresh autograph.

"Hey, you got your phone there? We can get a quick picture." You pull it from your pocket immediately, pulling up the camera with shaky hands. Your friends are going to lose their minds.

"Here," Oikawa hands your phone to the same manager who'd just handed him the photo, and she holds it up, ready to snap the photo. When you turn to pose with him, you catch a glimpse of Osamu, arms crossed over his chest. The frown crinkling his brow is absolutely adorable. Atsumu, meanwhile, is cradling his forehead in his palm.

Oikawa slides his arm around you, the two of you smile, and that quickly, the photo is snapped.

"Thank you so much!" You retrieve your phone. "My friends aren't gonna believe this. This was so great of you, Oikawa-san."

"No problem," He gives his hand a wave, "Can I count on you cheering for me?" He asks, flashing you one of his signature grins. You feel your smile falter.

"Sorry," You say, biting your lip, "That's one thing I can't do."

His eyes dart to the twins, and to your surprise, he barks out a laugh. "Guess I should have expected that! He's a lucky guy to have you cheering for him."

"My future brother-in-law," You explain quickly, feeling Osamu's eyes boring into you. Oikawa laughs again, delighted.

"Don't you worry. I'll give him hell just for you." He winks, and you can't help but laugh at that.

"Thanks again!" You say quickly.

"Anytime," He says amiably, turning back to his team.

The twins descend on you immediately. You proudly display the photo on your phone, but Atsumu reaches for the signed photo in your hand.

"What the hell did ya need ta get his autograph for?" Atsumu grumbles.

"Oi!" Osamu reaches for your phone and peers a little closer at the photo. "Is that his hand on yer hip?"

You link your arms through both of theirs appeasingly, grinning widely. Would you look at that? You've managed to make both Miya twins jealous at once.

please give us your Nami thoughts, I love your takes on her. It can be about anything you're currently thinking about but if I could pick then could you talk in depth about what you think about the Nami & Ussop dynamic ? Like yeah it doesn't need explanation about why they're my favorite duo among the strawhats but some of the things you've said about Nami and Ussop individually were not things I had thoughts about before so I want to know what you think of Usopp & Nami

i think i havent talked formally on this blog about how nami is written in most fanfiction to other people, but i try to emphasize in my fanfiction the fact she's an abuse victim since I feel that's one of her most apparent traits. the way that she deals with trauma is very reliant on exclusively herself, something i don't think is talked about a lot is that her expectation of what she is told is true is not only reflective of how pirates are known to the god fearing public (indicative of propaganda) but that she exclusively sees herself as the exception to a lot of rules, there's this inherent close-mindedness she has but won't ever really get rid of, that naunce and the room for things to go positively can't fit within her self perception.

this is because she believes she is the only thing in life she can control, and it's a necessary self-perception to maintain the inner worldview she has.

this of course is a survival instinct inherited from her childhood. but what it speaks to i think is that in real life and one piece the anime, that abuse victims (children and teens especially) can come out with a cynical view of the world and externalize that onto others (advocating for the current dysfunctional societal systems for example like nami does in repeating wg propaganda) simply because of how much we alienate them and how that continues to give no hope to people looking for community and understanding.

i like usopp and nami. theyre my favourite dynamic as well! i think something nami is able to do with usopp and nobody else (even with women) is give him the benefit of the doubt. i think this is because she relates to him

(i think she has bpd as well but i cant decide whether thats my legitmate reading of the text or me projecting. i write her like she has bpd. you decide.)

if we look at water 7 i think she's the most sympathetic of the usopp apologists because she was very obviously coming at it from a place of understanding from usopps emotional perspective (because she relates to him and loves him) in a way that nobody else really was articulating. because she's been in that situation where she's successfully alienated herself from everybody she loves in a way nobody else on that crew related to usopp (and by extension robin) on that crew during water 7.

nami doesnt just have a relationship to usopp she could have with no other man she has a relationship to usopp she couldn't have with anybody. i think. usopp is the only one who can cross the invisible boundary of the fact she expects you to be a kiss ass towards her lest you get consequences but usopp isnt a kiss ass to her and there are no consequences. (in fact usopp is quite snarky/mean to her, which is how he is when he isn't masking and completely confident in himself: see end of enies lobby) she apologizes to him when he's snarky to her in thriller bark.

since this is a nami themed post i won't talk about usopp as much. but have you noticed? usopp is mean when he's comfortable with people. he has this attitude at the end of enies lobby as they're escaping on the merry, i think i registered it subconsciously but i only did register it consciously a few weeks ago, but if usopp is truly comfortable he's not a kiss-ass whatsoever. and he's never a kiss ass with nami.

we don't really think about it like this because people are so prone to dismiss usopp is one of those characters that have a facade of palatability when he feels he's not on the same level as someone, coming from his insecurity, but in regards to his genuine attitude we see in enies lobby and with nami that admiration is not the true breath of how he thinks about zoro or sanji or luffy. he thinks they're fucking stupid as well. and he's right. (this exact thing is another reason nami is able to emphasize with him. she thinks similarly)

this ties into both nami and usopps implementation as shonen characters. they're smart and witty and have big personalities to differentiate them from the more powerful characters, i feel this juxtaposition with more traditional shonen characters has made oda feel like he has to justify both usopp and namis existences in the story in a way he doesn't with the other characters. i think it's this element that makes them the most consistently well written throughout every arc they appear in as opposed to the other 7.

i think the phyuri is less about not wanting to pay attention to a woman and more about lesbians wanting to see themselves in their faves!! i totally get where you're coming from and i do think some ppl are like that but i think most of the phyuri lovers, myself included, are just lesbians who want to see themselves reflected in their faves. and like yeah ppl go could go find an actual lesbian creator and draw/write/think about them but it's just not the same bc there's already an established love for dnp.

imo it's kinda like reading fanfic vs a book where with fanfic u already have established characters u love instead of having to get to know new ones.

i do think people should consume more content by women and lesbians but i think it's a little unfair to say that 90% of phyuri lovers don't wanna pay attention to an actual woman.

i think thats a fair point! but i think you kind of misinterpreted what i meant (which is on me! i dont think i articulated myself very well) because when i said "90% of this fandom" i didnt specifically mean "all phyuri lovers hate paying attention to women" bc i mean more that this is an existing issue that ive had with the fandom and phyuri is kind of just a representation of that to me

what i mean when i say that is like,,, i think that a lot of the people in the fandom only care about men. because whenever a lot of the people i follow post about anything else its Still two white men. its the two white guys from good omens or the two white guys from heartstopper or the two white guys from supernatural or the two white guys from 911 or the two white guys from whatever show theyre watching and very rarely about any female characters or god forbid real life women!

Okay so I was thinking someone should do something adjacent to this band au by @emilywaters but with Rembrandt as the lighting director but i fear that i may be the only person capable of this considering you know. Thats actually my job. But i have too many wips so you're getting this au in post form. Everything I changed from the original post is due to me writing out this entire post before I successfully tracked it down so like it's not me disagreeing I simply forgor.

I'm not sure what like level of fame they were supposed to be in the original but i need them to be doing stadium shows purely for Rembrandt's sake okay she deserves it theyre touring with an ma3 just believe me.

I think Cleon was originally their lead singer but she had to step down for. Reasons. Idk. So the Warriors are hard up bc their producer is on their ass about getting demos recorded for their next album but none of them really feel good about replacing Cleon.

Mercy is a mistreated burnt out pop idol who's just kind of getting listless at this point because she's basically just a prop for a brand and she can't even give a fuck about her music anymore. She meets Swan at a party and they hit it off and get blackout drunk and Swan wakes up the next day with a recording on her phone of Mercy doing a demo of one of the songs she wrote. She takes it in to their producer like here fine theres a demo are you happy and shes like??? Hello???? This is incredible??? Who is this singer??? And Swan is like hahaha. About that.

The producer reaches out to Mercy's management and theyre like um absolutely not she does not want to join your band she's a solo act but then Mercy gets Swan's number somehow and is like i DO wanna join your band actually but im stuck in this goddamned contract. So then its about them getting their record label to go up against Mercy's and get her out of her contract so she can be their new lead singer.

And also more importantly (to me) is the subplot about the like relatively young and inexperienced lighting girl from their home venue who Cleon insisted on hiring for their first tour and who just kind of stuck around and became part of the group. They tour with a disproportionately nice rig bc Rembrandt is a fucking nerd and none of them can resist her puppy dog eyes about getting shiny new toys. And like yeah she's kind of quiet and doesn't talk much in a group but she can hold her own against the fucking overhires giving her shit at whatever venue and not taking her seriously and she gets stars in her eyes when Ajax asks her about programming so like needless to say Ajax is a little bit obsessed with her. Rembrandt's job is half ordering around men twice her size and age and half real-time computer programming live in front of an audience. Ajax never stood a chance. There are always fans trying to see Ajax after the show and Ajax is always in the booth while Rembrandt talks about the latest patch grand ma pushed out and how she hates everything about it and everyone at that company is trying to ruin her life (she will have adapted and forgotten about this in two days until the next patch which alters her workflow .00001% upon which time she will again believe her career is over and she needs to call them to revert the console)

I think probably their relationship is more of a flashback moment bc obviously The Warriors can't be touring while they're looking for a new singer but I think when they're not on tour Rembrandt lives in Portland and does like weird indie performance art shit and Ajax stays in LA with Swan and the others and the long distance is kind of killing them. Could Ajax stay with Rembrandt in Portland for a few months and fly back down when they're actually recording stuff? Absolutely. Does this idea terrify her existentially for reasons she can neither articulate nor overcome? Also absolutely. But on a more fun note Rembrandt drags Ajax to USITT with her every year which is actually kind of fun for Ajax because in addition to Rembrandt being so excited nobody there is impressed at all by her being famous but they ARE impressed that she knows how DMX works. So. Who's laughing now Swan. The flashcards worked.

genuinely this is my fav jjk fic ever. better than canon. i like how seamlessly you weave in all the new lore! The way we slowly learn more about jian's life (and btw. character who is possesive as fuck? yeah:3 thanks) is so well done. the interactions between jian & the rest of the cast kill me - i think part of the reason i ship everyone/jian is because you write their interactions so well it just feels like you can already tell how their relationship would progress, like it would be the most natural thing in the world. also more jian+gojo interactions. 4 me. or more jian+geto interations. 4 me. or- this fic is the one i am most excited to see update in my bookmarks atm, i'm so obsessed. genuinely feels like it's own origional story. jian is my #1 fav guy of all time. i am right behind you in being about to make jian doll. also i love the way you make og!naoya feel like a part of the story still - he's almost a ghost in it, despite still living, because irregardless of how little he appears on screen he still deeply affects the story. i love his parent arc btw. insane place to take his character and yet. it's so good. also you're single-handedly making me obsessed w/ muta despite not caring about him at all before this fic. your background character promotional agenda strikes again. i think he and yuuji should talk. two guys losing control(idk how to better put it but. you get me) of their bodies because of the jujutsu system.

Most of S is tied in quality besides TPWHIWIM, which is an alright book but im biased toward because of Colettes appearance. I already elaborated on why I like deluxe so much in a different post!

You can bet on that:

I’ve probably talked about why I like it before, but if you know me, I love jamie and angeline’s dynamic in the books. This book plays on both their respective personalities SO WELL it’s the whole plot basically, it’s a FUN plot. Angeline has to be mean, Jamie has to be nice. Isabella is a riot as an outside force pushing them to their limits. It’s really just the best book for showing off the three girls’ bases. S tier because of the title, memorability, jokes, plot twists, and everything is tied up nicely. 10/10. Im a little sad by how Jamie treats her mom but alas she is just a girl

Live each day to the dumbest:

This book is one of maybe two or three that deals with a serious topic!! Jamie’s grandma dies and her family is grieving. Her and Isabella get to read her grandma’s (Spoiler its actually her grandpas) diary. Angeline is only a small part of the story, but it’s still a really good story. I actually really like Hudson and Jamie’s moments here, one of Hudson’s better appearances for sure. Jamie learns really important lessons and it feels like she definitely grows up a bit. The art also depicts her slightly older somehow i swear. It’s S tier because I just like how it handles everything. I don’t remember AS many jokes but it’s really interesting and it’s also… the first time she left pages blank in her diary. I’m also a sucker for when the DDD books break their mold, so.

That’s what friends aren’t for:

I could NEVER get my hands on this book when i was younger bro. But i love the small insight of Jamie being jealous of Isabella and Angeline hanging out together. This book is hilarious, and also introduces lots of characters. The art definitely has a play in the jokes, Emmily kills it as always as a supporting role, and there’s a funny bit I’ve reposted before where Jamie writes Angeline’s name like this the entire time because she doesn’t want to admit they’re friends yet. I can’t explain why but this book just has another really good situation that explores all three girls’ characters and there’s some cool Aunt Carol and Uncle Devon cameos too. For some reason this book feels really humble but I also can’t articulate why HAHA

The worst things in life are also free:

SUMMER BOOK!! Theyre hanging out in da summer. Emmily has a bigger role, and Isabella works SO WELL off her. I love Angeline being miffed about Isabella abusing Emmily. I like them all trying to work together to earn money to go to themepark, and this is an one-sided early truce between Jamie and Angeline where she tries to be civil. Makes for some funny internal conflict to read about. The humor carries this book hard. Always will make me giggle. Also Ang Jamie and Emm all get haircuts.

Nobody’s perfect, I’m as close as it gets:

I always have trouble finding this book when I need it, but if I remember right Isabella and Jamie join a bunch of clubs to pad out their permanent record. I like Angeline feeling left out, the scheming is a cornerstone for Isabella and it’s cool to see Jamie being dragged along when we usually only hear about her bastardly plans. I like Angeline saving them in the end from being caught, I like the background plot kind of with the meatloaf and it’s super cool that there’s ratifications for the rest of the series. It’s a simply book, but sometimes simple and funny is what makes the series so good. Classic Isabella and Jamie adventure.

The problem with here is it’s where I’m from:

Colette is a GREAT anti-thesis for Angeline. Imagine combining Angeline’s looks and Isabella’s wits. I’m so sad she never appears again because she’s from a different school. I love how she plots to take away Angeline’s title and how well she gets along with Isabella, and then isabella being the one who ultimately sniffs her out??? Such a cool character man. Jamie really doesn’t do much in this book HAHA she’s kind of just observing the chaos, but that’s fine. This book would probably be B tier if it weren’t for Colette—-but then again, Colette *is* the book.

just wanted to say i'm loving the story so far (i'm literally going insane)! if you're still taking questions, i've got a few, though you don't have to answer them/all of them!

1. will we see more magic outside of the "weirdness" of weirdmageddon? i.e., bill teaching dipper (or at least seeing the result of bill teaching him) other things like divination, potions, etc. i think it would be cool to see dipper get into more "witchy" things (tis the season! happy early halloween 🎃)

2. i just mentioned this in my comment on the recent chapter, but do dipper's eyes bleed like ford's did? or no, since the nature of the possession is different (dipper in the passenger seat and awake instead of ford being asleep) and dipper isn't fighting it?

3. in the previous chapter when theyre talking about dipper genuinely liking him, bill says, "not my friends, not my- not sixer." was he going to say his parents/family or use a different title for ford?

4. in the new chapter, dipper says, "we made a deal, and he was trying to worm around it, st- mabel." was he about to call her "star"? (if so, that's a really neat detail! like a verbal representation of him separating mabel pre-gravity falls (aka the sister he loves) to "shooting star," the one trying to get between his relationship with bill)

2. I'm working with the headcanon in my story that with Ford, Bill made his eye bleed on purpose as a possession side effect as another way to torment him. He has chosen not to do this with Dipper!

What's wrong with the ballet footage? Gen question, I don't know much about ballet

ok i will separate this into 2 parts, glaring fundamental flaws and pedantic nitpicky shit (which, to be fair, should only be corrected once the former are dealt with. but it looks like neither are happening any time soon so...)

Part 1: The Egregious

Zero turnout happening. Usually i'd point to the hips and talk about if the rotation is coming from the hips (good) or the knees and/or feet (bad very bad and kinda dangerous esp in gymnastics). but they arent even doing that.

The arms. The elbows should be slightly bent to create a "curved" look. The arms should be held up and in front of you with your hands around the height of your belly button, supported from your upper back muscles. The girl in the back (nola???) actually has hers pretty good (ignoring the hands, see below) but i would say she should have them a little lower and it looks like her delts are doing the work to keep her arm lifted instead of her back muscles.

Alignment. its difficult to tell from this one screenshot (i refuse to put in the effort to watch these frames 100x to get a great one im sorry) both because the legs are straightening (after what is ostensibly a plié lol) and bc of the camera angle, but you should be able to draw a straight vertical line from the ball of the foot to the hips to the shoulders. again the girl in the back looks a lot better than jade or kayla here.

More issues with turnout here that are more evident (bc theyre making an actual attempt to turn out here) they're starting to turn in passé here, i wont bother trying to articulate what the legs are supposed to look like bc miss betty okino here is doing it correctly xoxo.

i'll start with leanne. her supporting leg is actually quite nice and she's very high up on relevé, her ankle is straight/extended and right on top of the ball of her foot with her knee straight and quads engaged. however the leg she's bringing up to passé (pretty late, since shes turning, i should add) is basically totally turned in. the muscles in the hip that rotate the leg outward are doing nothing. the leg should be turned out from the hip the whole time you're bringing the foot up to the front of the knee.

now onto kayla. i circled the reflection because you can see the leg positions better, the video crops it out. she has the same issue with the hip turnout of the free leg, but her supporting leg is also turned in. look at the knee in the reflection. it's basically not turning out at all, but her supporting foot is like 45º turned out. considering that they're turning in this screenshot, thats bad news. turning out from the foot (ie rotating outward at the ankle) instead of the hip puts a lot of torque on your knee. its obviously not nearly as severe as the stress that twisting into the ground on a tumbling pass would put on it, just bc of the force being applied there, but its still not harmless.

Part 2: The Nitpicky

The hands...... how are the fingers (jade's and kayla's) the body part doing the most work here 💀 broken wrists (but like. tense and intentional, inexplicably???), palms facing the floor. hyperextended fingers. thumbs rotated away/out from the palms. the wrist should be straight but not rigid, it should complete the "curve" mentioned above when i talked about the elbows. the thumbs should be in, but again not taut, just relaxed by the rest of your fingers. its hard to explain verbally how the fingers should be, but they shouldnt be taut and/or stuck together either (aka pancake hands or karate chop hands lol). the girl in the back, her hand would be decent if she put her thumb in and rotated her wrist 90º counter-clockwise

Forward head carriage. That's my only gripe about Girl In The Back's posture, and even that isnt really Bad, otherwise it's great. Kayla's would be fine too but her shoulders themselves are a little too forward. Jade's is.... not great, it looks like she carries a lot of tension in her neck. i typed this whole post hunched over in my bed tho so.... do as i say not as i do ;)

also the first pic is hard to look at alignment/posture bc none of them are on the same count kfjdkjfkdjfk so musicality is a big fat L there

I gotta say... agree 🤭🤭🤭 and it speaks volumes about you vin. an emotional boy beneath all the horn. youre so sweet. what a gem.

one of my fav finn things not seen mentioned is the way he walks and stands. his feet are very opened-out, sort of like mary poppins style haha. it's a really particular thing i always notice, when people are pointed outwards, straight, or inwards. i dance so i am often drawn to people's feet and how they are positioned.

i think it says so much about how someone carries themselves and what they think of themselves, plus a combo of genetics and physicality. finn is lanky and probs only a few years into successfully navigating his body in terms of not being all over the place like spaghetti. i always think he looks like he's walking around his own feet haha.

whereas noah is very demure, hips coinked, knee bent, like he's trying not to take up too much space, like he's trying to keep his legs closed.

finn has a loping gait and turned out feet, interesting combo. and noah is just so delicate and graceful yet also clumsy? again, interesting combo. honestly, these physicalities are what led to my suspicions about their sexualities, as stereotypical as it may seem, because underneath cultural assumptions, we DO show off who we are through our body language, especially when sexuality is still latent. neither of them adopt deliberate queer mannerisms, so i don't think it's a case of 'theyre so camp'. i dont see any floppy wrists or lighthearted performative gestures (tho there was one tiktok where noah accidentally flopped his wrist and then looked horrified, as if who am i? this was shortly after he came out haha)

but otherwise, their physicalities are unique to them but speak to me of people who are not completely comfortable in their own bodies full stop, sexuality aside. we know finn has anxiety, but it seems noah's main cause for hiding WAS his sexuality. so its interesting to look at finn's postures and body language and wonder whether sexuality might be a root cause of his lack of self confidence too.

Always a pleasure letting my imagination run and letting the words flow with little regard for holding back. That's why I call things visions - I like approaching stuff here stream of conscious style with writing whether it's a drabble or goofy post or HC. Ponder and ponder and once my brain formulates what I'm feeling - go. Type without abandon haha. And yeah... I do agree that I'm one ruled by my emotions. The spicy sexy horny vibes is a catalyst from the root cause, the emotional core. That's me. I would absolutely call myself a romantic above all else, with pride 😊🥰

Interesting observations, I'm loving all this! Because you're so right, putting things into words I noticed but couldn't articulate just right? Finn has a very particular body language and physical energy. It's definitely that of someone who at one point was very insecure and awkward in their own skin but now has grown into a confident man, but still cooking a little. Its really different but we can see that clearly with him. Mary Poppins style is killllllling me but I know exactly what you mean! And then so does how you've described Noah. Clumsy grace is perfect for him. He seems like someone in real life when he's going about probably has terrible spatial awareness so he's walking into stuff but being so awkwardly endearing about it and it makes you just want to grab him and pull him close to you, away from disaster and spacey klutz moments which... yeah, that's kind of cute so totally him 🤭

I always find behaviourial analysis and observation so interesting as a subject because there's so much about identity and culture and even sexuality that informs a person's entire demeanor, that line between personality and individualism and stereotypes and reality. The way you notice things about people and are looking for hints because sometimes you gotta admit - you're looking. You're assuming. We don't have signs over our heads or have the capability to scan over someone and see their details and stats like a video game. Patterns and familiar traits. Someone you know of acts a certain way, has a mannerism, then you see it through someone else so you paste notions you're familiar with onto them. That kinda thing.

Anyway, all this is to say it's reasons hard to explain and can be accurate or totally off base, but there are definitely mannerisms and energy that reads off them both as very familiar, very queer, and asking me to detail why - instinctive. Could be wrong, but I roll with it for now. Noah is an interesting case because to me I'd be counted among the people who would not feel shocked, within the "we know," when he came out. His speaking manner was a main thing that tipped it for me to be honest? He just had a way. A way I really like and admire! But to me it felt like a tell. And I get that, because I've heard that about myself once I stopped trying to hide me. I don't know what it is. But the expressiveness in gesture and voice tone sometimes... I get it. It's very trye, like you said, certain things just bleed through and why does it correlate to identity, the way I roll my eyes or verbally phrase a question? WHY is it a tell? But it can be. Or it cannot, and that's assumption and stereotypes. The tightrope. It's complex, humans are so complex.

But it's the approach. Are we discerning this for what reason? Mockery and harassment - that's the negative that assumption and stereotypes fuel. But kinship and celebration and solidarity and support, community? All the happier side of the coin. The most basic example of all - seeing someone's swishy arm gesture, does someone else read that as 😏😊 or 😒🙄 to make it pictoral.

hellooo! i love your work and how articulate you are when writing!! i was wondering if you had any tips or advice for someone who wants to start making fics & how to build a following? 🩷

ON WRITING:

in all honesty, just write and write!! i've written so much stuff starting when i was like 12. when i go back to my past works (ranging from fanfics to nonfanfics), i always cringe so hard cos theyre soooo soooo bad 😭😭 when you write a lot over the years, you're eventually going to see improvements.

also, i think finding your writing style really helps a lot! there are writers whose works are prose-heavy, those whose signature is purple prose, and those who write very simply. i fall under the last category 🤓

another thing is that, find the genre that you think is ur strength and make it a part of your branding(?). some are famous for their fluffy works, some are famous for their angsty fics, and some are famous for their smut. obv, you can mix all of those stuff but theres always something ur better at, and i think its good to lean towards that and leverage on it.

when you do get to writing, i think its important to take into consideration researching what youre gonna write about. it doesnt need to be extensive at all, surface-level research goes a long way!! i have to look up a lot of things while writing nb cos im obv not in tech nor an accountant nor do i habe chaebol friends or live in sk and my life generally is very far from theirs ijbol. it sometimes annoy me when i get to a part that needs some researching, but u really dont want to make it obvious to your audience that u dont know about this particular thing HAHAHA (you can put disclaimer anyway, jic)

the choice of pov is also really important!! i tend to avoid fics that are written in first person, so naturally, i don't write that way. i do think though its kinda common consensus for almost everybody. but its also just a personal preference. i dont think i've read anything thats in first person yet, but im sure my pre conceived notion about it has hindered me from finding a gem written in first person. at the end of the day, it all boils down to how well you write your stuff!!

one last thing; edit your work! your first draft doesnt necessarily have to be the final product. go over your paragraphs to improve some of the phrasing and stuff

ON BUILDING A FOLLOWING (TUMBLR)

i dont exactly have a big following on here lol but here's what (i think i did) to gain enough:

making your blog pretty-looking really helps a lot!! thats what i did when i first started writing on tumblr. make a mlist, navi page, etc. theres a lot of tumblr tutorials accessible on the internet so its not very hard

this could also be under the "making your blog pretty" thing but editing a landscape banner for your story can attract viewers 🩷 (or even those moodboard thingies) (ok i lied its more like a personal experience 😭😭 but i really think it contributes a lil something)

when you post, put it under the right tags to really hit your target audience. the tagging system was really messed up on here a few years back, but i think its better nowadays, so better take advantage of that

be responsive to comments and reblogs and asks! talk to your readers!!

and again, just write and write. the more active you are, the more you post your works, the more traction u get

as a flute player wanting to learn (and march) mello, do you have any wisdom you are willing to share?

Eyy!!! I am both of those things!!!

First bit of advice: Find or get an actual mellophone mouthpiece. This might be really easy, because King mellos come with a decent Mellophone 6 mouthpiece (or whatever it is), but if that's lost, and your school/uni/corps doesn't have one for you? Don't use a trumpet mouthpiece. I've seen people have to march mello with a 7c mouthpiece (which is god-awful for a trumpet) and. yeah no. So you'll want to buy a mello mouthpiece. If you want to buy a Hammond MP5 or MP6 mouthpiece, those are really good, and like, the gold standard, but theyre expensive as hell. What I'm using, and it feels comfortable, is actually a Yamaha MP 14F4 (though I've seen some that are just Yamaha 14F4m? I dunno about those, they're probably fine). I got this for $25 on eBay, they're everywhere.

Second: Long tones and lip slurs are SO IMPORTANT. PLEASE. PRACTICE THESE. For range and flexibility.

Third: Scales, learn them, learn them well. You're a flute player, fingerings are easy for us. But beware, mellos get all the fun 16th note runs.

Fourth: flute and brass instruments are really similar about the air! Keep your breath support up and remember: when you're playing a note, it's the air that makes the sound, the buzz just happens to happen, don't worry about it. Point your air like a laser, knock the leaves off the trees over there. Get your air all the way through and past the horn. Focus it, don't just blow. Remember your breathing gym. Paper airplanes, darts, bow and arrow. Get that arrow all the way around the world. Also breathing gym in general. THEY'RE. RIGHT. Breathe in with your stomach and push the air out with your abs.

Fifth: Your band director ever talk about using warm air? or keeping your throat open? yeah. do this. Drop your adam's apple, however you need to visualise it.

Six: partials! The way partials change is by changing the speed of the air. This is done with your tongue. You change the shape of your tongue, bringing the middle of it up and down, like the difference between saying E and O.

Seven: Hear the notes in your head, what it's going to sound like. Sing the note, buzz the note on your mouthpiece, then put it in the horn and play. (oh yeah, the mouthpiece! you should be able to play anything on the mouthpiece. change pitches, articulate, everything. if you learn your note accuracy like that, all you need to do with your horn is the fingerings! when on your mouthpiece, still use a full amount of air.)

Eight: Never put pressure on your lips with the mouthpiece/horn. Tension is the tone-killer. Tension is the little death that brings total obliteration.

Nine: chops hurt after a while, but if there are ever sharp pains, STOP IMMEDIATELY, YOUR LIPS ARE ABOUT TO SPLIT.

Ten: when outside and putting horns on the sideline, place one glove over the valves and one over the mouthpiece, so you don't burn yourself when you go to play it later.

Eleven: Talk to your director! Ask people for help! Learning a jew instrument is hard! But it's so fun!

Twelve: you're going to love how right-facing slides don't kill your shoulders.

Thirteen: you're going to hate how your bell obstructs your field of vision.
