#theyre just a realistic example of a community that has its own atandards but WILL ignore them for survival

Realistically, yeah. A.J needed a community for the resources and support that Clementine just did not have at the time. So ultimately, how it all went down was for the better.
…however, I will raise one thing: no way in HELL would I have trusted the New Frontier either.
Clementine joined these people for the security and community they provided, and there’s nothing to suggest that she didn’t give her time and effort. She likely did odd jobs for them, and in return, she wanted that medicine for AJ (no duh).
But like?? These people are whack. Listening to how they talked to Clementine, associated AJ with someone who’s not worth the medical support to the point where any treatment beyond whatever tf Lingard was doing (Imma get to that twit) was considered a waste. Even though you’d think in an apocalypse, children are the priority because they’re who needs to live on.
I understand having to juggle vancomycin between a person who could immediately help in survival (an adult) vs on who can’t (a baby), but it’s the attitudes behind that. Especially since David had a family?? Hello?? Would you not want to give Gabe and Mari the chance to survive??
But then there’s Lingard whose addiction actively feeds off of their medical supply. His “medical attention” is the waste. Not AJ. But he gets to get away with it because…buddy system.
“Oh but he’s a doctor.” I don’t want a doctor treating/operating on me while high, thanks.
It also brings into question why David thought AJ would be in good hands with an addict?? Who steals their own medical supplies for his own benefit? Like I’m sorry, David. Do you or do you not hate thieves?
Lingard giving AJ off to the ranch was the one thing anyone in the New Frontier did anything worthwhile for the boy, because it actually meant a good community so bless him for doing that. Sure there’s the whole thing with the winter, but I also think it’s because he knew better than David and knew he wasn’t suited to take care of a baby.
But. Eh. Whatever. Lol.
I don’t blame Clementine for reacting the way she did, and holding a grudge. Nothing in how the New Frontier treated her and AJ told her that he was safe, hence why she was so surprised to hear that David did actually take care of him. All she got was these people will put their own interests first, and will come up with excuses about “we hate thieves” all while having an addict doctor right there, and then (on Joan’s part) turn out to be the faction stealing shit from other communities.
AJ was better off. …at McCarroll, not the New Frontier. Maybe David, once his fatherly instincts decided to kick in.
I will never understand why people get mad at David for giving AJ to the ranch after he explains that winter destroyed all their food
“He should’ve tried harder!” The fuck is he supposed to do, use magic to stop winter and grow new crops?
