I genuinely hate all those “uncles” (especially the ones who are Maple Leafs fan) who always make comments about player’s laziness or how they should “toughen” up every damn fucking second. Everything bothers them and they just love to complain about anything and everything. Players post a summer vacation post? The comments are : “WHy aRen’T yOu TRaiNinG? YoU SHouLdn’T bE rELaxiNG”. The players are shown doing fun media interviews? “ThEy sHOuld be PrActiCinG!! 😡 ThEy cAn’T gOOf aRouND iF tHeY wANt tO Win the StANLey cuP!!” And so much more, like if an injured player is showed living his life the comments are always like: “Oh I thought he was injured, shouldn’t he be resting? Shouldn’t he stuck in his bed?” or “This new generation of player’s are so weak. A broken wrist or migraines should not stop them from playing. They are so lazy and weak. Back in MY days…”
During post-games and pregame interviews, if a player uses “we” as in the team and points out what they could have done better, these type of men will complain about how they aren’t taking personal accountability. However, if a player use “I” and mentions his own faults in a game or a play, people will say that they are not thinking of the team and they are only playing for themselves.
And you just have to wonder if they are ever content or satisfied with anything honestly?
they're not and they never will be and i'm convinced even a cup win wouldn't be enjoyed or cherished as it should by the people who are this over the time. there's a clip of paul maurice before the stanley cup final series and i forget the exact phrase he uses but it was something about loving/enjoying what you do out there, and it's just so funny to think of the responses that would have gotten if that was related to the leafs. like idk, i think that is a pivotal part to it! it's not the most miserable and militant team that wins the cup every year, and imo toronto already has an uphill battle with the pressure and expectation from outside.
