(Turning this into it's own post cause I'll be rambling a lot)

I've been wanting to put my Bug Folk lore into those like- journal page type things so it feels like you're reading research papers over them

But-... knowing me, that'll take forever. I'm still going to do it! But I want people to know more about my little Bug Folk immediately since they're so important to me right now. So I'm just gonna post infodumps about them that will later be compiled into journal pages.

SO! Infodump about these silly bugs below :>

Basic info:

So Bug Folk- Little tiny anthropomorphic creatures that resemble bugs. They can be insects, spiders, centipedes, millipedes, etc. (Yes I know some of these aren't bugs, but I'm including them anyways).

They can vary a lot in size (depending on what type of bug they are) but they're mostly around 3-1 inches tall. Average being 2 inches.

It's a bit hard to calculate a Bug Folk's lifespan since most of them become Bug Folk fully matured (more on that later). Though, most bugs will live up to 30-40 years after becoming Bug Folk

They all contain magic within their being. Not all of them can use or wield magic (in fact, strong magic users are not the most common), but they all are part magic. This is because they are all created with magic.

How Bug Folk are Made:

Awakened Bugs - (Almost) all Bug Folk will start of as normal bugs. To become Bug Folk, an already existing Bug Folk needs to take a normal bug and use magic to awaken them into Bug Folk. It can either be just one really strong magic user or a team of magic users working together. Then boom!- They got an intelligent mind and a humanoid body. They will also be fully mature when they're awaken (that is... as long as the bug was fully mature once awakened)

Born Bugs - Another way Bug Folk are made is to be born from the combination of two already awaken Bug Folk. This will cause those two Bug Folk to die for the birth of this new bug, as their souls are given up to create a new life. But this bug will have the combine strengths and magic ability of their parents

However, it's not always guaranteed that a bug will be born even when the parents give up their life for it. Also, that bug won't be full matured once created like normal awaken bugs are and will take them a long time to develop into maturity. They have to grow from egg to adult after all. They also don't have the fast growth speed of a normal bug. It's more on par with a human, so it'll take a good couple years until they become an adult.

Even though born Bug Folk are stronger, it's considered more convenient to just awaken bugs instead. Although- born Bug Folks are the only way hybrid bugs can come to be.

Bug Lifestyles:

The type of bug that's awakened/born usually qualifies what kind of skills they have. For example, Beetles are normally a lot bigger and stronger so tend to be used for fighting. Spiders tend to be more skilled craftsmen. Ants are a jack of all trade species

When they're awaken, they'll either have one of two lifestyles: Social or Traveler

The social bugs - These bugs live and work together in a community that's hidden from humans. It's usually created from the ground up with a powerful magic Bug Folk awakening a whole bunch on bugs to work for them, turning that bug into a Royal Bug. This is most common with bee, ant, wasp, termites, etc. Bug Folk.

Social bugs have the benefit of protection and resources but usually meant to live in a strict hierarchy. With the Royal Bug on top, a few nobility, and many soldiers and workers at the bottom of that hierarchy

Then there are the traveler bugs - These are Bug Folk that don't live with any established social bug community. Either they were exiled from their past society, left on their own, or was awakened to that lifestyle (Though that is rare to happen)

They are much more free to do whatever they want but don't have the protection and resources that Social bugs do. And despite not being social bugs, they still tend to travel in groups for better survival. Though lone bugs aren't unheard of, those are usually ones that are powerful enough to survive by themselves.

They are also the ones that humans will most often see. And since the more chaotic one usually are travelers, humans often believe Bug Folk to be mischievous creatures.

Other Stuff:

Many Bug Folk worship or work under the belief of these Bug Folk called The Ancients. They're essentially the giant prehistoric bugs that have godly powers, thus seen as gods, deities, etc.

Bug Folk live in the same world as humans (they call humans giants). Though, they try to hide themselves from them as they tend to have a distinct distrust of humans. Humans are vaguely aware of Bug Folk but they're mostly a mystery to humans. Humans and Bug Folk have a tense relationship

Second on the interpretation train is Voice of the Contrarian!

I wanted him to have contradictory traits to Hero without being a complete opposite. So there are demonic horns, but they're wooden like fae would have. More earthly than chthonic. With lilies-of-the-valley at their tips, which represent the return to happiness in floriography!

Oh, and also golden upside-down fairy wings on his shoes! Because:

1. Hero has normal-facing wings on his head (which I forgor to draw in the comic, my bad)

2. Hermes/Mercury had wings on his shoes and he was both a trickster and a psychopomp (between earth and the underworld) and

3. Fae and other trickster deities commonly used gold to trick others.

But I still needed a more individual element to complete the picture, sooo TOYS! Jack-in-the-box for his surprise impulsive blade throwing, and sorting box with blocks as an ironic wink to his disorganized nature.

You guys, last night ended up getting so crazy. I don't even know where to begin! For those of you who don't know, I went to a cute pop-up market with my boyfriend last night. It was really fun, with all sorts of artists and performers and shops. And, like, I know the fae get a bad wrap for being tricksters or whatever, but it really seemed like just a quirky fair.

But ooooh my gods, it took such a steep turn so fast. This video will be 80 parts if I go into all of the details, but it turned out that a hag had taken over the market years ago and was, like, controlling everyone- including the DRAGON who used to own the market!- with a bunch of magical contracts. That was obviously, like, problematic on its own, but my friend recognized her missing sister working as a performer in the circus. Isn't that totally crazy? I swear, I could pitch this to one of those, like, true crime shows.

Anyways, we were gonna try to save the other workers or at least, like, alert some teachers at Strix about it but once it directly involved my friend it just became, like...so much more timely, y'know? They weren't going to stay in town long, and it wasn't like WE had a way to find them again afterwards. She was obviously gonna try and save her sister, so it wasn't like we were just gonna let her do that alone.

So we did the stupidest thing and decided to split up- I know, I know- but we were just supposed to be gathering some info! One of our groups was supposed to go watch the circus act to make sure it was really our friend's sister, while the other group- the one I was with- was just trying to snoop around to find out more about the hag and all the contracts. The plan was to regroup before anything dangerous happened, but like...of course that didn't happen.

I'm not sure, like, HOW much I can say...but I did get trapped inside a magical dollhouse at one point. And my friend obviously leapt at the first chance she had to rescue her sister, even if it wasn't a good idea since we were all still separated at the time. I can't blame her, though, all things considered. It was just, like, one of those emotionally charged decisions, which I totally get.

But the hag, like, immediately caught them. I wasn't there, but my other party members tell me she, like, trapped them all behind some forcefield thing and they ended up making a deal where they challenged her to some games. If she won, they'd be trapped, but if they won, she'd free them all and my friend's sister as well.

Meanwhile, I managed to get out of the dollhouse with some of the worker's contracts, so the rest of my party and my boyfriend's party, who came to help out, started trying to destroy as many of the magical contracts as we could to set them free. We figured freeing the dragon was, like, top priority, so we did that right away. Not without, like, a TON of resistance from a bunch of the hag's lackeys first, of course.

With the dragon- oh, her name is Pazidrone, by the way!- freed, she offered us a ride and we were able to get to the hag and our friends right as they were playing a tiebreaker game. But they didn't get to finish, since we crashed their party big time! Like, literally crashed into the hag's magical forcefield on the back of a dragon and started an all-out brawl.

I think my friend's sister is doing better now, but the healers here said it would probably be a while before she was back to her old self. It's probably hard to recover from the effects of a hag's contract, I'd bet. We did check in on some of the other workers, and most of them seemed much happier but, like, drained. So I figure there's hope she'll be okay, right?

Which...again, maybe wasn't the smartest decision our party has made. We're still, like, freshmen, after all. But I kinda figured with a dragon, it would be a cinch, yknow?

Unfortunately, Pazidrone went up against a big, chicken-y monster that, like, turned her to stone SO fast. I'm not sure we would've made it out if Willow hadn't managed to turn up that magical charm of hers and convince the hag to leave us and the market behind. But luckily, she did, and we got to live on top of freeing the workers at the market!

[Respite pauses to do their lipstick, thinking.]

It was, like, a lot if I'm being honest. I'm still kinda processing everything. I know it probably comes with the territory of going to a magic school or whatever, but it DOES feel like sometimes even our classmates can't relate, y’know? I mean, I've nearly died...what, 5? 6? times now. And that's only counting the times I was fully knocked out. It just seems like a lot for my first semester. I dunno. Weigh in if you think that's weird or not.

Oh! And I STILL have to take finals! Isn't that CRAZY? Like, why can't "save an entire marketplace from a hag" count as our final? Or at least some extra credit? I feel like it should count for SOMETHING, even if it's not part of the curriculum. Ugh, whatever. I'm sure I'll find some way to pass my exams.

He does not..! That species of vampire are very simple and closer to human than most, and as a running joke a lot of human myths were based on misconceptions cuz I think it's sooo funny. Though vampires turning to bats is common in the fae vampire species I have that shapeshift between a human like form and an animal form, Red's species lack this.

Lore dump tho:

For Red's species they're vampires who can be born as vampiric and turn later in life naturally, or be turned by drinking vampiric blood. Originally, they lived with humans in a co-relationship as they are compatible, with vampires providing protection and humans providing a source of food. Vampire x vampire babies are more likely to turn too early in development but with human genes in the pool they tend to turn later in adulthood.

Unfortunately 1000s of years ago humans started fearing vampires from other tales of vampires, and humans from other places came to where these vampires were, convinced the others they were dangerous, and drove them out. Now they're forced to live in hiding or try to blend into human society.

The unique attribute to his species is their starvation mode, when they're starving they have a small physical transformation and their brain shuts down most rational thought, reverting to a sort of feral mind. They gain heat vision and strength to help them locate food and it wears off after they've eaten.

The common Hollywood style vampire is actually a meme for their community (they have a vampire social media you can only join if a vampire on the site invites you and they're very strict about it) and they lovingly call it "Vlad".

anyways in my head silsebe are already kind of an estabilished couple. but sebeks still very competitive and he tries to compete with silver to see who can win riddles affection first. so cue these two courting him and hes like, super hyper mega confused bc tell him why sebek now insists on helping him move & do stuff and silver is more touchy???

anyways, silver is vey chill and relaxed, but diligent, while riddle is always on the move and always striving for the best. i think silvers (unintentional) slow pace would make riddle slow down, too, as to not leave him behind. though he would also speed up silver a bit, so they both would adjust their normal pace to be together

silver is also very straightfoward and, like ive said in the florid ramble, riddle likes that. he would be someone riddle would go to receive advice from, trustful as silver is

hes like. a steady anchor, a steady (but not large and intimidating) wall riddle can lean on. i think its nice for silver to have someone (a full human) so determined like riddle around, because while sebek also is, he IS a half fae, so his endurance is higher than a human's. but riddle is just like him, just like him and so, so good at what he does. it amazes him

silver is such gentleman, too, and i think riddle would really like that. silver is the type to bring flowers, kiss his hand, help him out, accompany him, all of that. and im oh so sure that would have riddle smitten! i believe riddle would also bring flowers, but would instead write poems and help him study

Ooh, okay, I've actually thought about this!

So, one, I would be incredibly excited if there was a second episode, I doubt that will happen with the amount of series on the channel, but I can hope!

Two, because of the previously mentioned unlikeliness of a sequel, I have, of course, had a period where I hyperfixated on this concept knowing damn well it would likely never be proven. Sooo ideas below but they're really long so I put a divider:

Benny would be a variant human artificer, with the "lucky" feat. I feel both of these elements make sense.

Champagne would be a black dragonborn druid. Dragonborn because at first it was funny, but then there were also potential painful moments like maybe Macey is also a dragonborn instead of just a dragon...? It's complicated and messy in my brain, but it also kind of makes sense, like he'd work with dragons and trying to manipulate them into being more docile from hatching, and then one of the projects he's put on it isn't a dragon egg, but a dragonborn, but noone else cares because it's just a subject, but he gets attached and eventually when the Sci-5 show up he takes the kid (probaby toddler age?) with him.

Vasilia would be either a tabaxi or a human with the were-jaguar curse, and would be a . The way I imagine the tabaxi thing going would be that there is a spell that allows you to reincarnate someone but the toll is that they come back in a new body, so maybe as a kid she was killed by a jaguar or other big cat only to be revived as what is basically a sentient big cat. For her class possibly low levels of sorcerer and then multi-classing into ranger, but if she has to be one or the other she'd be a ranger.

Tayrun would also be a ranger, but for his race... it's complicated. Because originally I was like "yeah, he'd just be a human. Maybe a variant human or something, but just a human." Which then progressed to "well maybe a half-elf" to "well maybe some other fae kind but they assume half-elf", to "well maybe they assume half-elf but he's actually just an absolute mess of bloodlines which is really confusing, and the only way he realises is because of Vasilia. But then came my final idea. So one of the types of sirens in d&d are the bird-like ones, they're neutral-evil and are incredibly OP, *but* researching them I was like "hey, these are a fae race. I was considering fae blood. hmmmmmmmmmm" which basically led to Tayrun being a weaker version of a siren, but through a curse/magic rather than by blood, because sirens eat people. But he doesn't realise and doesn't really sing because dead sister trauma, and then there'd be some event where he does sing and accidentally charms a bunch of people (maybe duetting with Kayla in a tavern?) and so on and so forth. I really hope it makes some sort of sense.

Heath is complicated because I had him as either a human paladin or an Aasimar (ghaele descendant from a dormant bloodline) fighter. Being an Aasimar does take away from him gaining his abilities later in life but I feel it does fit for him to have not really used them as a kid and then had to struggle to figure them out during an equivalent event to the kaiju attack in his world. A human paladin does make a bit more sense but it also feels a bit more boring and I'm not sure if paladin really fits either. Maybe a good warlock? I do still lean toward the concept of an Aasimar fighter though.

Kate - Variant human barbarian with the feat of tough. I don't really have more to add to this?

Ana - Triton rogue. She sneaky. She fishy. If not triton then maybe a water genasi? I don't know which is more plausible.

Astra/Diamos - This also takes a bit of a long explanation, but the short is that Astra and Diamos in this are two different people, with Diamos being a red tiefling who was a warlock under her father but broke her pact and while running found Astra. I imagined that Astra was still being raised to fill a godly role, but instead of becoming the overseer, she instead was being raised as a paladin to an evil god, who when she then broke her pact was cursed to slowly transform into a dragon. In response she tried to stop it and ended up sealing herself away in a time bubble that is only broken by Diamos seeking shelter in the now abandoned building surrounding this bubble. When it's broken the transformation is sped up and gives them only a short period of time to work out what they're going to do. I don't really know how it would come about, possibly a kind god taking pity on them or something? But in the end Astra becomes Diamos' familiar and Diamos gains the oathbreaker class and starts working toward being a wizard. Then it gets kinda complicated but that's the rough idea.

Mara - Human ranger who then gets cursed by the Fear equivalent and becomes a fo-tiefling, slowly being turned into a demon. Then there are two options, one is that this just keeps going and the Sharp Gang find a way to stop or slow it, or that the only way to stop it is to become a warlock to Fear Herself which then leads to her leaving the Sharp Gang for their safety, going down the darker path that was where her story was originally going.

Um. I hope this was a good response? I don't know how to end this, but yeah. That's my thunks.

Aphmau - She could be a forest spirit or a fae. Orrr my personal favorite since I’m assuming we’re using the MCD Aphmau she could be a normal human that was given magiks.

XD - Since he is probably going to be either Dream’s brother/father or something he should be an elder demon

Herobrine - I would like to make him related to Eret probably either his father or brother sooo prob fae(also he could totally be the one of the reasons faes are seen on bad light)

Lizzie - Mer - Blue axolotl - she was the first to figure out that Tommy is human. I believe that mers can be anything from the ocean so it fits(maybe we could make her related to Sally or Niki?) Also could be current or past ruler of the ocean empire

Scott - Elf - He could be either the current or past Elf king.

FWIP - One of his occupations is alchemist so we are going with that.( I’m pretty sure he falls into some sort of witch category soo)

GeminiTay(Gem) - Wizard one of the rae humans in the world. Though at this point she can’t exactly be considered a human anymore. After spending literal centuries in the magic realm(+from her profession) her body has absorbed so much magic that just like Tommy ended up as something else. The only human thing left is her appearance. Just like Lizzie she was able to know that he was human but stayed quiet for unknown reasons.

Joey - Ihavenoideahelp

Katherine - Fae - She can either be the current or old ruler of spring court.

Mythical Sausage - He is a warlock so I think that works

Pearl - Probably something similar to Aphmau but I’m not sure

Pix - I don’t know

Joel - human - he isn’t part of the council but I think we should mention him :) also he smol

but I thought everyone should be included and then decide who should go and who should stay.

I haven’t watched many perspectives of the empires so most information I got was from the wiki.

I think most elders would be past rulers some may have kept their position until now.

Aphmau: I have no idea what an MCD is!! I'll have to look it up!! But? Wizard Aphmau, perhaps?? Or whatever you think the equivalent of MCD!Aphmau is?

XD: Sounds good! Dream can be his younger brother! Maybe XD's some sort of Eldritch Demon? He's technically probably powerful enough to rule himself(and at one time did), but he'd rather mess with people and hang out with George.

Herobrine: I think we had this as Eret's original true name, but them being a brother could be cool too! Hmm...maybe twins?? They split the name between them, until Eret's changes, but Herobrine's didn't, instead just taking on the entire name for himself. Take that as you will.

Lizzie: Very good, very good! And hey, why not both? We already have Niki of the Glow Squid, so now we can have Sally of the Salmon! As for Lizzie and all the other rulers, I'm going to say that for the most part, they're past rulers. But every now and then there's a successor crisis, and they end up back on the throne for a bit.

Scott: He's an ice elf, maybe? Or just elf in general. Elf/spirit, if we want to tie in Aeor somehow? Either still ruling, or just the one who ends up back on the throne the most.

Fwhip: I mean, if we want to have him as twins with Gem, he can be in a similar situation to her? Oh, or maybe he's the reason she delved into magic, and became what she did? Alchemist/witch!Fwhip, for the win!

Gem: I like that! When someone asks her why she didn't say Tommy was human, she likes to give a cryptic answer-usually something about letting time take it's course-but honestly, she and the other former humans just like to take bets on this sort of thing. You'd think after three or four times, supernaturals would be a bit more willing to go 'maybe they're just human', but nope! 'How Long Does It Take Them To Get It Right' is one of Gem's favorite guessing games, closely followed by 'Who's original guess comes closest when they stop being human'.

Joey: Jungle spirit? One of those creatures that guards tombs? God? One of whatever he calls his cat villagers?

Katherine: We love to see it! She can be on the throne, as a treat. And also because the Overgrowth(shard of Mother Nature, long story), is a bit finicky, and it's hard to find someone besides her who it'll listen to.

Sausage: Good enough for me! Does that also make him human, or would that be like Fwhip's situation? Do we need to start a category for this stuff? Warlock under Witch-would Witch be the broad term for natural magic users, thus automatically making them non-human, or?

Pearl: Harvest god, perhaps? Ancient summer fae?

Pix: Immortal prophet? Former human like Gem? One of Mumza's angels?

Shubble: Hey, we can have both? Spirits take whatever form they choose, and anything can become a spirit. Or we could have them seperate, who knows?

Joel: He's an honorary member, because Lizzie lets him tag along sometimes to judge people's life choices.

Jimmy: Ooh, works for me. Both he and Lizzie are probably just a tiny bit Eldritch themselves. Maybe they split it, when they're on the throne. Lizzie takes care of salt-water affairs, and Jimmy deals with fresh water.

As for who's on the council, hm. Okay, so we've got Aphmau, and XD for short. Potentially Herobrine, depending on what we want to do with that. I feel like Lizzie and Jimmy kinda share a spot? They switch though, and just share details later. Scott and Gem, I'm thinking, along with Katherine. And Pearl too. Maybe some others, I don't know.

How should the council be set up? Specific people who are there for certain reasons? People representing each supernatural species/area/side? Leaning towards the latter, just because there'd be fewer, but if we want to expand, then we probably want the former.

I've gone down a hole with them and I'm questioning my bias, and I'm low-key convinced that it's probably all of them sooo......(also check out their recent comeback Flex, I've had it on repeat for days)

Noa/Yubin -> Vampire

this cocky ass motherfucker loves it

like maybe not all the time but loves being a huge flirt just to lure people into him

however he doesn't care much for killing people, I could see him more drugging people so they don't remember anything but he still satisfies his need for blood

as much as he flirts though he's incredibly lonely, and he has nothing else to really do

basically just drowns his lonely by getting with people, hoping someday someone won't leave him, and would actually want to be with him

Sian/Changmin -> Merman/Siren

A nice siren that just loves to charm people

Rarely ever intends to harm people unless he's in a bad mood or he sees a bad person

But really just loves to comfort people

As long as you don't freak out he'd love to just sit and talk with people, but normally people would freak out so he tends to just keep secret

Unless you were to still around for awhile, and maybe compliment his voice, he longs for some sort of attention so would eventually show himself to you

Kevin/Seungbin -> Angel

He's adorable, and I hate that he's a less popular member

He's so curious about everything, and kind of an air head ngl

Loves watching humans and learning about them, and just in generally enjoys learning new things

Sometimes wishes he could experience human life and learn more about it than he ever could by just watching, but also doesn't want to give up his duties as an angel

Constantly torn between wanting to live to different lives, but he'd need something bigger to really convince him to want to give up his wings

Gunwoo -> Hybrid

He's also adorable, and I still have that he's also a less popular member

200% would be a cat or fox hybrid

Happy and playful all the time, and tries to be charming when he can

Actually likes interacting with the human world, he would just were a hat to cover his ears and tries doing human things

Doesn't normally get super far due to other hybrids, but tries to best to sneak away and be on his own

Doesn't really have a rank in the pack, and doesn't really have a desire to work his way up

Just kinda tolerates his life just living and serving his pack

Does crave to do something more, just not with his pack, and honestly kinda wants to just be a loner, but he knows how dangerous and stupid that could end up being

So he sticks with his pack, and does sometimes wonders off, but never to the human world

Strong, silent type

Knows he scares people and likes it

Has zero mercy (as the name suggests, yes, the pun was intended, intended your puns cowards)

Would have very few moments when he actually hates being a demon

But that would only happen around very few people

Kairi -> Elf/Fae

I honestly didn't really know what to do with him but I feel like this fits and no it's not because he's short

Also one to just be happy with his life just living in the forest and living his life

And another one to not really want to leave his life for the human world

Also enjoys messing with people when they enter the forest, but only sometimes

Yeah, I don't know he kinda just lives his life out normally with no really curiosity of the human world

Kio/Musashi -> Fairy

Technically more like a pixie cuz he's a mischievous little shit

Is still a bit shy but once he starts to mess with humans more he would do it all the time and be a menace

However is someone were to see him though and try to catch him, he'd either get 10x more misbehaved or would get scared and shy and hide somewhere

The only time he wouldn't be mess with someone is if they're clearly upset and tries to do little things to make them feel better

Or is someone was being hurt he would go all out to wreak havoc on this person

Yeah the french Harvey was...a choice! The part where Bruce was being nice about his scars in the beginning was neat but the rest was...something.

Making up werewolf lore sounds so fun though!!! And vampire lore too but yes werewolves are very fun especially in combination with identity issues and things like chivalry codes and having to pretend to be someone you're not etc.! And ahh!! The whole idea of your AU sounds so interesting tbh! And magic user Harley and plant curse Poison Ivy sounds so fun too! The plant curse immediately made me think of mandrakes too...plants whose roots look vaguely human shaped and who's painful shrieks when being unearthed could kill people according to legend...I know that's not what you're going for but now I'm just thinking about cursed mandrake Ivy raising from the soil due to witchcraft (having been...a mandrake bewitched by someone lonely who wanted a partner but when she got ripped out of the mother earth her pained shriek killed the witch that created her and..and ..agsvgsfs I'm getting off topic here sorry...) also fae Joker sounds fun too! Unseelie court I'm assuming?

So the thing about the bodies and gender lecture ...there's quite a lot of stuff to talk about ! I'll probably have to write it down separately but one thing I found interesting in regards to gender is that according to our professor in medieval and renaissance times while people believed in there being two genders they also believed that there was only one sex. the explanation for that might go into nsfw territory though so idk if you want to hear it but it's...interesting and to summarize basically renaissance people thought women were 'less developed men'. It's a whole...thing...but yeah it's interesting and maybe could help you with your AU so I'll try my best to write it down in a way that makes sense tomorrow!

MAKING UP WEREWOLF LORE IS SOOOOO FUN like the sort of progression and the areas they'd gravitate towards, like i'm thinking of it as partially a microcosm of evolution in that they'd form smaller groups in more rural areas where there are forests to hide in, and similar to highwaymen i think they'd target isolated travel routes which means that in a more mountainous area you'd be FUCKED as a villager in the valleys but in more densely populated cities there are probably werewolves AROUND but they're not as likely to attack you because of how difficult it would be to do that stealthily. and so there are very pervasive ideas about werewolves that aren't completely true but aren't completely false either and it lets me make harvey have this intense internal debate about This Whole Thing and the nature of evil and how to remain in a society that no longer wants him – and maybe never has!!! i'm still not sure about what the societal rules about being gay are but there definitely is some form of transphobia because it's MY au and i want to work through MY issues as a form of escapism :-)

the mandrake thing sounds SOOO cool i wanna have something like that in it so badly now omg... like i've already said that ivy was a human who was cursed to have plant abilities but she was also a sorcerer's apprentice/assistant so she could have performed a spell similar to that with a mandrake or saw him do it and then he reversed it for her and OH MY GOD yeah no ok. he pulled an uno reverse with the spell on her but it's hard to just like... reverse the direction of a spell? and THAT'S why she's so fucked up currently. fuck yeah love it when this happens. (fae joker is unseelie court definitely and i think harley might initially mistake him for being from the seelie court depending on how good his glamour is i'm not decided yet)

Hey guys! I thought it would be fun to hop on my stories quick to show you all this super cute pop-up that I'm at! I'm here with Javvy! [the tiefling holds up their arm to show that they're holding hands with the owlin] It's called the Seelie Market! It's this fae night market that showed up outside the Strixhaven campus today, and I can't tell you how gorgeous and, like, kind of eerie it is.

[The camera flips to show the rows of stalls lining the illuminated pathway as they continue walking]

Not in, like, a bad way, but in a cool, mysterious kind of way; the atmosphere here is still festive! It's kind of circus-y but like..."dark carnival" sort of circus. Plus, look at all these artisan vendors. It's sooo important to support small businesses, y'know? They don't even use gold here, it's all trade based, like a little creative commune! If you're in the area or see that it's coming your way, you should def check it out!

[The camera flips back to show the couple again, but mostly the tiefling]

The first vendor we hit up was a literal talking dog that was, like, selling a bunch of cute trinkets. All you had to do was trade a trinket of your own to get one. Javvy got me this beautiful set of hairpins [the tiefling turns their head to show off a shining, opalescent pin in their hair]. We literally just left my friend Mettie there because I knew he wasn't ever gonna want to leave- I think one time he spent, like, 2 hours in front of a single shelf at an antique store back in our hometown.

[Turns to the owlin, laughing] Did I ever tell you that story? Oh, my goddess, I think I ran around the place, like, 10 times before he'd finished inspecting everything and holding the old guy who ran the place hostage by asking where he got every little trinket. He seemed happy to have someone to talk to at first, but, like, we didn't even have any money 'cuz we were kids- the old guy got soooo pissed when we left without buying anything. [Pauses] Well, okay, he might've been mad because I did break a tea set. He didn't let us back in unless we had money after that.

[the camera flips suddenly to show a bunch of fruit stands] Wait, look! They even have a farmer's market kind of thing going on. There's fruit stands all throughout. The berries were really fresh, and the prices were [pauses] uh...basically dirt cheap. Really good deal for locally sourced produce.

After that we went and got our fortunes told, too! They have this cute setup for tarot readings right in the center of the market! [The tiefling holds up an intricately decorated card labeled 'The Throne'] They even let us keep the cards! I got this one- it was something about, like, new responsibilities and how only I'd know if I was ready for them when the time came? I guess I need to do some introspection. Jav got a reading, too- [Glances at the owlin] uh, but...I mean, the whole thing is definitely bogus, even if it is fun!

I know Mire and Willow went in ahead of us, but they seemed pretty set on seeing the rest of the fair so I didn't get much of a chance to talk to them about their readings. Willow has been way interested in seeing the masked guy on the poster- I think it's the main act in the little circus performance they put on! They probably headed in that direction. Last I saw Sersh I "encouraged" her to get a reading, too... Hopefully the psychic gave her whatever card tells her to stop being such a boring stick in the mud [snickers].

I'm not sure where Lulu or- [grimaces] ugh, wait, I see Thad by those cute dolls I wanted to look at, actually. Did he buy something...? [Huffs and begins walking faster, pulling the owlin along] Whatever, we'll go there later. There's plenty of other stuff to check out first, like [pauses, squinting at something in the distance] the card collector? Sure, let's go see what that guy's all about. [Turns to the owlin] Does that sound good? [The owlin nods and agrees] Maybe they take the cards we got from our fortunes and do something with them...?

Alright, guys, I'm gonna hop off while we check the rest of this place out! I'll be back on later if anything cool happens, [they glance over at the owlin] or I might just post a little update-slash-summary video tomorrow so I can enjoy my date [the tiefling winks at the camera before the video cuts].

Ohhhhh the Maronis are the werewolves ohhh that makes so much sense idk why I didn't figure that's what would be going on but I love that!!! Would Maroni in this case pretend to be an "honorable merchant" and patron of the arts like the Medici? Or would he not care about that and solely work his secret werewolf operations?

Also yess yess yes yes love those identity concepts you talked about, the whole part about him putting up walls and polishing his perfect persona only causing people to get jealous and scrutinizing him even more which in turn makes him wall up even more...fantastic! Also since you mentioned the chivalrous code: since you're tumblr user t4tbruharvey I'm assuming there will be, well, bruharvey content in this AU so would that also follow the chivalrous code? That is, with the whole back and forth of "the knight must always pursue but the lady must always decline or else it would put shame on them respectively" which was basically the only acceptable way of flirting? Would there. Would there be the whole thing of court poem readings where the liege would pay their poet to make an anonymous song or poem about their lover and then sing it in front of the whole audience, but it's anonymous so only the liege and their lover know it's about them? (That was an actual thing they did back then btw in case you haven't heard of it yet) Also "which is a nice contrast to harley who i think doesn't necessarily get to be stealth and maybe wouldn't really want to be" oh does that mean trans Harley? Hell yeah!

Oof so it was deliberate huh? Well then I hope Ivy could get her revenge because Wow that sucks. Also oh hell yeah the greenish-teeth fae thing sounds so fun and creates a very vivid visual design image ! The erlking is ofc a more modern poem though so the poems ideas of the fae don't necessarily align with the actual medieval ideas of them but it's still got some fun ideas imo like the fae looking like trees or mist to the father...

Yep the ideas about conception are very ..interesting and very different from what it is actually like/how it's seen nowadays. It might be a bit much to get into here but if you want I can explain it separately and also go more in depth on the four humor theory because I always think that one is fun and people back in the days definitely would use it to describe someone's personality. OH ALSO ACTUALLY jbdbbd it would play into the "trans woman batman" headcanon now that I think of it because according to the four humor theory Bruce definitely would be a melancholic and that was seen as a predominately feminine personality. Anyways though if you want I could go more in depth with that?

maroni totally 100% pretends to be an honourable merchant and i'm gonna say the falcones have been out of the picture for a while by now so he's one of the main patrons of the arts and he probably does stuff at wayne castle (it's a castle aha) because he has a position of power and he was doing shady werewolf dealings (intimidation to help him bend the law) on the side, which is why everyone was so pissed off about it when they found out.

there is ABSOLUTELY going to be bruharvey i have like half a fight and 2/3s of a kiss written. it's a bruharvey fic i am a predictable beast :-) and i think bc of the circumstances they're in at the start, with bruce already batman and most definitely unaware of gender stuff, i think i might end up having chivalrous code stuff be like... kind of a fantasy bruce used to have before they drifted apart like he was soooo in love with harvey and he wanted to be courted officially (bruce voice oh hey what does that mean for my gender let's not think about that one aha!!) and then his feelings sort of mellowed and they're still there but it's just like a quiet part of him now as opposed to consuming his every waking thought? which, hilariously, is what harvey is gonna be experiencing with batman in a little while which is gonna be SOOO fun for me because he DOES have weird fantasies about like 'the dark knight' courting him and be sort of uncomfortable with where that positions him and like. you know the song howl by florence + the machine? there's a bit that goes 'the fabric of your flesh, pure as a wedding dress' and harvey is gonna mourn his cissona a little bit in that weird way he does
