Can you share some of what your planning process for long fics is like? What kind of outlines do you do or what prep do you do to get in the zone?
Thanks for the ask! [Tagging #ridspoilers for minor plot outline, birthday, and alien planet calendar spoilers for Origin of the Pixies, Frayed Knots, and Factor It In]
---
I write on Google Docs; it might not be for everyone but it's what I've found to work well for me after a lifetime of writing (Ex: When I was a kid, I used WordPerfect and Dropbox and it would take hours to sync my documents before a long road trip... I travel between two locations a lot, so these days I just pop open the Google Docs app on my phone or use the Edit Offline extension on my laptop and it's always up to date, which works great for me!)
I also like Google Docs because I can link between documents and have lots of open tabs [along the top of the browser] in "one tab" [along the bottom bar], which isn't something I was able to do as a kid or with Microsoft Word, and it just helps me feel clean.
---
Masterlist Doc [1 per fandom]
I keep all my Fairly OddParents 'fics in a doc titled FOP 'Fic Masterlist. I have my most important resources at the top and they're all broken down with clear labels and doc links.
This way, even if I haven't accessed a doc in a while [meaning it doesn't come up when I type its name in the URL search bar], I always know where I can find it. Also, thanks to my edit offline extension, all I need is this one link and I know I'll be able to open any doc I need.
I have a lot of 'fics, so this doc is several pages. If you've ever read my FFN or AO3 bios and saw that note about how I keep a queued Tumblr post containing links to my unfinished 'fics in case I unexpectedly die, that queued post links to this doc!
You'll also notice that I have distinct scrap docs for Origin, Knots, and the 130 Prompts. I change or cut a lot of stuff and it's nice to keep the old WIPs in case I ever want to look back on them (each of those docs is 25k words just of scraps). Sometimes those scenes get recycled, but usually they just sit there. It's a lot easier to cut things from a story when you have a place to put them and you're not deleting them forever.

Table of Contents Doc [1 per long 'fic]
All my long 'fics have a table of contents doc, which I highly recommend for anyone doing a large multi-chapter project. I always slap the cover image, a height chart, or a character reference on top to make it pretty, then the doc will contain some notes I might need. For example, Origin's doc has two height charts:
and this-
Makes it easy to know where to find things. Also, you don't have to draw your own height charts, but I recommend keeping a list of heights on hand. Even if you don't tell the reader someone's exact measurements, it's always nice to get a feel for how characters compare to others and whether they should be looking up or down.
Come What May's doc has this screenshot comparison on it, which I put together by measuring different characters who appear next to each other as carefully as I could, and it works too:
Obviously Kevin and Molly never appear in the same episode, but since they're about to become step-siblings in Come What May, it was important to me that I knew how tall they were, so I measured Molly against Timmy and then Timmy against Kevin. Same for Mrs. Crocker, who I measured against Timmy to get a feel for how tall Kevin is compared to his grandma.
I know it's a fanfic so it doesn't really matter, but you have to do self-indulgent things sometimes :)
Frayed Knots also has Sunnie's character reference [i.e. Anti-Cosmo's patron nature spirit, the water dude], which I just want to show off because this is still really good art for something I drew in 2017:
Other things I keep in my table of contents docs are lists of episodes where certain characters appear, random notes that I need to keep track of (like any canonized character addresses or allergies), and chapter title ideas. I also keep track of the starlight levels [i.e. which season it's bright outside vs. dark], school year reminders, and Anti-Fairy migration season.
I keep my Vatajasa name chart in Knots too:
Factor It In's table doc contains a list of villains who appear in the 'fic (Red for ones who don't appear, green for those who do). It also links to the Wiki page for the Evil Villains Association so I can remember which villains are and aren't in it. It also has my timeline details:
---
Timeline Notes
Factor It In is set in 1998, and my table doc has all the notes I used to narrow down to that date (ex: I originally planned to set it in 1987 because I felt that the late 80s fit the technology level we see in the show before I re-watched the episode "There's No V In Team," which specifically refers to the year 1987 as having happened in the past).
One of the reasons I liked using 1987 originally was because Factor It In is a story about Kid Math training under WordGirl, and it takes place shortly after the Kid Math episode, which aired in 2014. Factor It In opens in early January, so I like the Easter egg that the 2015 calendar would be the same even if we took its airdate literally. 1998 was the only year in the 90s that also matched the calendar, so that's what I ended up with.
I like keeping my timeline notes around so if I take a hiatus, I can always come back and remind myself why I picked stuff. Also it's way easier to expand your worldbuilding if you kept your notes... it's awful if you threw your math away and have to start over (I once redid an entire timeline because someone said I'd messed up the dates on my chart, and I believed them and redid it all, only to realize several months later when I ran into a timeline problem that my math had actually been right all along :') Don't be like me. Record your work and leave notes explaining why.)
[I always use THIS calendar website when I'm planning timelines. It tracks moon phases, which was important when @zachbrightside and I were working on the FOP timeline and heavily relying on moon phases as a guide, and you can easily type any year and month into the URL bar so it's super easy to navigate.]
---
Birthday Notes
I also kept all my notes on determining birthdays (very important for long 'fics with lots of characters that take place over several months! One of my FOP resource docs is specifically for birthdays and annual events, ranging from parades to anniversaries to carnivals).
My headcanon for Becky Botsford's birthday is July 28th. We know she starts the series at age 9 and has a birthday in Season 1 episode 4, meaning she's 10 for much of the series. There are at least two episodes where she cites her ages as "10 and a half," and we saw that in her next birthday episode ("A World Without WordGirl"), her cake had 11 candles on it.
Show canon implies that time IS passing and that the show doesn't exist in a timeless void (see also, Timmy Turner wishing to freeze time for 50 years), so it was important to me that I nail down her birthday. I knew I wanted it to take place after Rhyme and Reason if possible since there are no more birthday episodes, though I would also be fine with having "Rhyme and Reason" shortly after her birthday [to ensure she stays 10 and 11 for the majority of show canon].
Here are some of my notes on her birthday for anyone interested (Hopefully they're not too squished):
^ Like I said, I switched 1987 to 1998, but yeah. Rex's birthday comes out to June 13th, 1989 and Becky's is July 28th, 1986.
Clickable links for Rex and Becky on the age calculator if you're curious... Important for me since one of Rex's math powers is to always know how old someone is to the day.
Fun Fact - I deliberately gave Rex June 13th as a birthday so he would share a birthday with Foop, who is also a Season 7 Episode 1 debut kid over in Fairly OddParents :)
---
Having birthdays planned is also nice for when I want to write multiple 'fics in the same world, even if they're not the same 'fic. In my story "Flypaper," which takes place in early June, Rex is eagerly awaiting his 17th birthday and Becky muses on how she'll be turning 20 at the end of the summer... Just a nice detail not only to set the scene, but also to help the story feel grounded and realistic since one of the themes of "Flypaper" was that Becky felt time was slipping away from her.
It's also important to note that Rex and Becky are always among the youngest in their school years since they have summer birthdays. Tobey is 12 for most of the time Becky is 11... Little details that don't take a long time to plan for, but can really help a story feel like the author put effort into the world.
Again, I highly recommend leaving clear notes to yourself about why you're doing certain timeline things. I much prefer having the breakdown of the episodes I looked at over simply leaving a note to myself that Becky's birthday is July 28th!

Character Arc Notes
Before planning the events of the story, it helps to get an idea for what themes and character traits you want to focus on. Frayed Knots is about love and betrayal- it's about Anti-Cosmo pushing for what he wants even though it hurts his loved ones (appropriate theme for a villain backstory 'fic).
I want to show some notes I have for Factor It In because I think they're interesting. Factor It In is my first attempt at doing a story that deliberately focuses around two protagonists and their separate but equally important character arcs, and I'm excited :)
Everything that's in my doc is the "tell" part of "show don't tell." The story tries to show what I have in my notes:
Rex arc - Lack of Stability / Lack of Control - Failing, getting tricked, being unwanted, not good enough, not understanding things. Being in foster care is scary. Unfamiliar planet is scary Show Kid Math always being super inquisitive. He always wants to learn. He knows the most, he is the best, he gets upset when he's fooled or when he fails. He was 2nd best in school. He feels lost when he doesn't know what's happening in his future. Gets upset when WordGirl doubts his decisions. In the opening scene of Factor, he's mind controlled by Mr. Big. Literally has no control Kid Math clings to his superhero certification / Hexagonian education. He was raised by his aunts and has basically no relationship with his parents (though he tries to hide the fact that this hurts him). He feels like a burden; he feels like his mom considered him "too much work" and that his father considers him "not worth bothering to visit." Rex constantly struggles under this fear that he's a burden. He wants to prove himself a good superhero so that his education (and life) aren't "a waste." Conflict: Kid Math has already spent his entire life feeling like he's no one's first choice; that he's only "second best" (because he was second to top of his class in school). He understands that he and WordGirl are sharing the city, but it's important to him that he's considered an equal. He wants people to like him. It hurts when WordGirl comes on too strong and makes it obvious she lacks faith in him, because he feels like a burden: his worst nightmare. Throughout the story, Rex internalizes his successes and failures. He cannot separate his superhero identity from his civilian identity. He always sees himself as "Rex, who trained to become a superhero." He calls himself Rex and has no distinction in his mind. His secrets slip, he uses his powers when he's Rex, and he expects people to attribute KM's failures to Rex (Ex: school kids laugh at how he falls for tricks as Kid Math and it upsets him as Rex). Rex values control, and will do all he can to avoid losing control. His deadly sin is Wrath, but he has a lot of emotional control and will try to remove himself from the situation. As long as he has his safe space and his comfort things, he's okay. We get several scenes of him wanting to break stuff when he's upset but he holds back... with the underlying tension of wondering how long he'll last before he snaps (pitting his nightmare of losing control against Becky's nightmare of losing his friendship).
I want to highlight the part about how Rex cannot separate his two identities. This is something I showed even back in "AlgoRhythm" - Rex always calls himself "Rex" inside his head, even when he's dressed as Kid Math. However, when I write from Becky's POV, the third-person writing swaps between calling her "Becky" or "WordGirl" depending on how she's dressed.
I also have notes about how Rex's character arc relates to the story's finale, but that's spoilers. Since Rex's character arc is about how he hates not having control, then the worst thing that could happen to him is not having a say in things: hence why the plot about bouncing between foster families is such a hard thing for him to go through. Eventually, he'll also be put in a position where he needs to think about who he is as Rex vs. who he is as Kid Math, and we'll see that in the story climax.
Becky has a fun arc too:
Becky arc - Loss / Change - People being hurt, losing her friends, hurting or losing her family. Fear of change. Show WordGirl being upset when relationships fracture, even with people who aren't super close to her. She struggles with the idea of Kid Math befriending her villains or losing her position as a hero and getting replaced by Kid Math. Put simply, WordGirl is a control freak who refuses to admit this to herself. WordGirl struggles to relinquish control to Kid Math (which is where they come in conflict since he ALSO feels stressed when he doesn't have control). WordGirl is a bit of a helicopter mentor; she hovers around Rex, interferes with his work, and just generally gets in his way (which is pretty funny imo since Rex never got in her way during "Kid Math"- he's capable, he just causes problems with social interaction and not with the actual fighting... WordGirl gets the social interaction part but definitely gets in the way). Conflict: WordGirl doesn't enjoy having Rex around, but she can't tell him that because it might hurt his feelings and that would cause her "loss and change" pain. She would feel guilty and sad. Rex being Exposition Guy's foster kid is a big source of conflict between them, as Rex believes he should "get dibs" on info EG shares. WordGirl stresses when Rex doesn't do things "her way" and Rex gets frustrated that she doesn't trust him. Tensions keep rising because WordGirl starts seeing "the bad" in Rex; she keeps seeing Miss Power traits in him and she worries that Miss Power might have been his teacher back on Hexagon. Her nosiness strains Rex's trust in her and he starts pulling away emotionally... sending her into a spiral about change and loss (especially as more and more villains and civilians grow familiar with Kid Math and start to think he's cool). Lots of resentment towards Kid Math for "replacing her" even though she NEVER admits that to herself; she still has trace amounts of jealousy towards him in later stories like "Flypaper..." WordGirl doesn't mean to be jealous or greedy, but it's always been one of her flaws (i.e. someone else getting a key to the city, or when she snapped during Miss Power special about Chuck getting a collectible unicorn, wanting to show off a bit during "Invisible Hand"). She's a very nice person but Envy is absolutely her deadly sin.
So yeah! Fun times ahead; I'm excited.
We've already started seeing cracks form between her and Chuck... In Chapter 4, Chuck confronts her, asking if WordGirl is retiring and if he'll still get to see her. Chuck has his own little character arc in the background, which is that he broke his foot a few days before the story starts- he has to sit on the sidelines watching the other villains get "WordGirl time" while he has to watch Kid Math go through hero training.
A lot of other characters have small arcs too, though Chuck's and Victor Best's are probably the most notable-- Chuck and Victor are both characters who struggle with being "the second best" compared to a more successful sibling, so they resonate heavily with Rex's character arc.
WordGirl's arc is about control, so Mr. Big and Tobey (mind control and robots) are pretty obvious choices for her, along with Dr. Two-Brains... but actually, Granny May and Eileen are two villains I really wanted to look at in Factor It In. Granny May's life hinges around being a "people person" (to the point that she had an episode about how she could be way more successful with a different schtick; she just likes talking to people too much to trade that for success).
Granny May is super calculating and manipulative and she also struggles with little losses of control in her daily life (getting on in years, mobility issues, and the episode "Granny's Book Club" where the Evil Villains Association tried to force her to retire). I like Granny May because she looks like this sweet old lady but she also, like. can fly and has a robot suit, which is SO funny.
With her cold, calculating patience and her manipulative ways, Granny May represents the worst of Rex AND Becky at the same time, which is great. I'm excited to get to her chapters. Eileen is also a fun villain to juxtapose Becky because she's the embodiment of envy, which Becky struggles with, so I'm looking forward to that too.
A lot of characters are also working on school projects, so they always have "something to do" or "something that is causing them stress." Mapping out the background character arcs and conflicts can help the story feel more alive, and I think that's a useful part of outlining :)
---
Once you know your character arcs ["What is my character's biggest fear, what is something my character will do wrong, what event forces them to face their fear, and how do they resolve this situation in a way that shows them growing as a person?"] then the story sort of writes itself :)
Make sure you have a goal or a problem and make sure there's a reason they can't achieve the goal or solve their problem in the first chapter. Here are some examples from 3 of my long 'fics:
Origin of the Pixies - Fergus (i.e. H.P.) fears being responsible for others... His father wants him to study psychology and take over the family therapy business (Wish Fixers) even though carrying the weight of others' emotional problems sounds like the worst fate imaginable... so Fergus cuts ties with Dad, drops out of the Fairy Academy and runs away from home. Now he only looks out for himself, can start his own business if he wants to, and he can drink and party all the time. What could be better than that?
Fergus's nightmare of being responsible becomes unavoidable when he (a pixie) starts reproducing asexually... during a time when no one really knows what pixies are and Fairy World has a baby ban in place. Fergus pursues a life of business and money-making, fighting to provide for Sanderson and the rest of his clone offspring (some of whom are predisposed by their genetics to kill him when they come of age, which is fun). Things get even worse when Fairy World and Anti-Fairy World go to war... Being responsible for kids during a time of peace was hard enough, but war? Forget it.
After successfully navigating the chaos of war, Fergus is ready to settle back into a peaceful life, but tumultuous politics keep him on his toes. His best friend - the leader of Anti-Fairy World - gets overthrown by hotshot Anti-Cosmo, and Fergus is forced to re-evaluate his friendships, priorities, political alignments, and personal needs if he wants to maintain political piece between the Pixies and Anti-Fairies.
While raising his pixie clones, Fergus has always kept them at arm's length and called them "interns" or "employees" or even "nephews" to avoid calling them his sons. The older he gets, the less he's able to do the things he liked to do in his younger years - goof off, wrestle, attend parties - and the more he needs to think about putting his pixies first. As death looms nearer and nearer, Fergus grows increasingly desperate to ensure his pixies will still thrive without him... and he'll do anything, regardless of who it hurts or how badly he endangers the magical world, to ensure they do.
-
Frayed Knots - Anti-Cosmo fears being unloved; his father isn't in the picture, his older brother is aloof, and his mother isn't kind to him. He's desperate to not grow old without a soulmate by his side. When he fails to match with a partner during a betrothal ceremony, he lies his way through it and tricks his peers into believing Anti-Saffron is his fated match.
As the centuries pass, it becomes more difficult to maintain the lie and Anti-Cosmo begins questioning whether maintaining his relationship with Anti-Saffron is even worth it. Breaking things off in a society that believes in luck and fate, however, is incredibly risky and could get him labeled as an outcast for the rest of his life.
Anti-Cosmo struggles to balance his dying feelings for Anti-Saffron with his growing feelings for Anti-Wanda, and things get trickier and trickier as his friends realize he's been lying all his life and start pushing him away. Finally, Anti-Cosmo has to choose between his comfy lies and his betrothed or else throw away everything so he can chase after Anti-Wanda... who might abandon him too, just like his friends did, and leave him alone and unloved.
Anti-Cosmo maintains his lies as long as he can, hurting his loved ones in the process, and struggles to pick up the pieces left behind. Even if no one else forgives him, he can't keep living in the past; he has to learn to forgive himself if he hopes to be approachable and trustworthy again. Being an evil villain, though, I guess whether or not he grows as a person is up for some debate...
-
Factor It In (Rex) - Rex values his personal achievements; he finds joy in superhero work and regularly brags about himself, his schooling, and his home planet Hexagon in general (right down to the fact that his planet has "the tastiest raisins in the universe.") Unfortunately, he's stuck in a cycle of giving his all but never feeling satisfied with his achievements because he's "never the best." One of his greatest fears is being confronted with evidence that he really is a burden and a failure, which would absolutely crush his spirit.
Rex doesn't love the way that Becky pushes him around; she's not mean, she just tries to guide him towards foster care even though he doesn't want to go. He doesn't speak up about it because he wants to put his faith in her and believe that he can learn from her and become a better person (since "being a good person" is the one thing he values above personal pride). He still feels inexperienced and overwhelmed in the early chapters, so he's hesitant to speak up and explain why he doesn't like what Becky's doing... up until she starts crossing his boundaries and then he has to draw the line.
Rex's desire for independence leads him to trust very easily. He puts his faith in Victor, Tobey, Chuck, and Granny May, who steer him down a wobbly path of moral grays. Becky keeps pushing him further away, so Rex continues bonding with the villains because he feels safe with them. Obviously this doesn't end well and he has to face the consequences of choosing the villains over his friendship with WordGirl.
In his determination to mend things with WordGirl, Rex accidentally lands both of them in a terrible situation and puts them (and therefore the rest of the city) in danger. In order to fix this, he has to push through his personal pride (Ow), accept his mistake (Double ow), and go against his training (which became useless while Bad Situation is in effect) so he can find a new way to save the day.
-
Factor It In (Becky) - Becky values her identity as a superhero and how much work she puts into protecting the city. She fears that Kid Math will be a worse hero than her (endangering people) but also fears Kid Math will be a better hero than her (blow to her self-confidence).
She can't resolve this problem in Chapter 1 because she's scared of hurting his feelings and would rather try other options to avoid direct confrontation; instead, she deals with her concerns by trying to "fix" Kid Math. She trains him and pushes him towards foster care. As long as she feels like she's helping him, she's assuaging both fears: she's proving she's "better" and she's helping him not be worse. Ergo, she "no longer has a problem."
Becky's already on a path that puts her in conflict with Rex, who desires control over his own life and has to deal with her pushing him around until he can't take it any more. Conflict arises when Becky oversteps boundaries and breaks Rex's trust in her. Things get worse when she makes a mistake that sours the city's attitude towards her. Her worst nightmare is coming true: she's "not as good as Kid Math" and people might get hurt without her.
As things keep getting worse for the city and Rex is struggling, it's obvious that she and Kid Math need to team up again. That means repairing their friendship... which she can only do if she proves that she really does trust Rex to do things by himself. Therein lies the pickle...
---
Anyway, I really rambled on there, but... Point being, a lot of fun stuff goes in my table docs, and this is the type of outlining I like to do for characters and story plots.
I highly recommend having a table of contents doc for long 'fics. You don't need to bog it down with all your worldbuilding notes (Hopefully you have a separate place you can put those, like a Tumblr blog or other docs), but for things that you know you'll definitely need and are worried you might not be able to find again, I highly recommend keeping them in the table doc.
You shouldn't normally be editing your table doc after you've done your outlining, which means you're less likely to accidentally delete important notes (compared to keeping them in a story doc) and you won't bog your story doc down with stuff you need to scroll past.
---
Chapter Docs [1 per chapter]
I have links to all my individual chapter docs (important to me since my chapters are normally 10k+ words... Can't fit everything in one doc or it would be a pain to navigate and take an age to load).
Here are some snippets of my outlines. As you can see, the descriptions I have in my table docs are loose and vague:
This is from Come What May:
Come What May is special because it takes place over just a few days (while my long 'fics span months or even thousands of years). It's based around Kevin's appearances in Fairly OddParents Season 10.
I wanted to share this because even though my notes for "Cold Shadow" are basically nothing, it still gives the info that's actually important for me to know when returning to this project after a hiatus: "Here's exactly what day it is in the timeline. This episodes shows kids turning in a homework assignment on the founding fathers, which means we need to see Kevin doing this homework assignment (or at least acknowledging it) in prior chapters.
Regardless of the weird supernatural stuff Kevin is dealing with in this 'fic, it's still intended to be canon compliant, and I know that's a detail Future Me could easily forget but would want to know. It's like what I said earlier about birthdays and timelines: leave yourself clear notes. You'll never regret having too many notes, especially if you intend to return to a project after a long hiatus.
-
Origin - I unfortunately scrapped my descriptions for all previous chapters of Origin and Knots so forgive the "spoilers," ha ha
Origin was originally drafted in a single document, which I later split into separate chapter docs. That's why I have notes like "Hawkins hand scene." I know exactly what that's referring to and my table of contents doc helps me remember which chapter it got moved to.
-
Knots - I wanted to show these to emphasize how vague some of these are:
Even though they're vague, you can get a good sense of the direction the story is going. Outlining doesn't have to be a painful, in-depth process. You can knock out the basics in a single afternoon if you just sit down and do it.
I picked one chapter and opened it at random ("Fox's Folly") and it has 8k words in its draft right now. "Tipping Scales" has 15k. At the time of making this post, Frayed Knots only has 34 chapters posted in public, so we're at least 1 or 2 years away from getting to this point, yet there's already a lot of draft info I can go back to. I've added a lot of bits and pieces to these chapters over the years and sometimes I just open them when I'm in the mood for reading something fun.
Having the documents already set up in advance brings you one step closer to opening them and throwing stuff in them and I highly recommend that.
-
Factor - These chapter outlines are more detailed (minus the early ones... the first 3 chapters were drafted as 1 chapter originally). If you've actually read Factor thus far, however, you'll notice that the scenes in my outline don't match perfectly with the finally chapters. And that's okay! The outlines are just guidelines and the final chapter can be different:
Lots of screenshots but I feel like my Factor doc is the most authentic look at my outline process (since it's recent while Origin and Knots were outlined like 7 years ago). I use black on my initial draft and red for things I change on a later sweep.
There are little notes to myself and sometimes I switch the order of things around. Also, "Torus" was written from scratch (no outline) since I came up with ideas for it later, and the nice thing is that I felt comfortable doing that without feeling like I'll write myself into a corner or wreck the pacing.
Having a story outline and all these separate docs means I already know where the story is going and I can jump in and write from anywhere in the timeline when the mood strikes. I think having a lot of options on what to write is the best way to fight writer's block, so this system works well for me.
Origin was drafted in 2016 and Knots in 2017. I create new scenes all the time (and scrap others), but a lot of the early story beats are still the same.
That about covers what I do in my outline process :) Thanks for asking and hopefully this was a fun and interesting read!

On the Ceiling
It's amazing how almost nobody looks up. And why would they? Really. I mean, they're so wrapped up in their own bullshit.
I always see them come in, lugging books or bags, or both. First thing they do when they enter, all of them, is search the place with their eyes.
Is my favorite table taken? Is there a place with an outlet? I need my computer charged to 100% at all times. I want the window seat.
Most of them need it to be quiet. Students, mainly, but you get the occasional suit taking a break from the office, coming out to enjoy the crowd. But all of them, whoever they are, come to do work. So if it's too packed, too noisy, usually they'll leave without even bothering for a to-go coffee.
The rest stay. They claim real estate, spreading their belongings as widely as they can. In one chair, they'll drop their bag. In another, a jacket. They buy not just coffee but snacks, and they spread everything all over their tables just like you'd spread food on a blanket at a picnic, all over the damn place. I wonder how filthy their homes look, some of them, they leave behind such a god damn mess. I'm glad I don't have to clean it up. I just watch from up here.
Now, I said almost nobody looks up. Some do. But even then, you'd be surprised. They actually look away.
First time it happened I was new to it all. I'd just moved here. I'm sure you don't even notice it anymore, being from here and all, but to me, i thought it was funny. Everything's a repurposed warehouse, even the apartments. Maybe it's a city thing, I don't know. Either way, when I got here, the thing that got me was, why would you spend so much time renovating an old warehouse and just leave the ceiling like that? All beams and ductwork, iron and sheet metal, just hanging overhead. Looks dangerous, if you think about it, like the whole thing could collapse on you.
I mean, you clear out this big space, fill it with new furniture and redo all the brick. You install some new lights. Then you go and name the place some shit like Bodega Noir Coffee and Workspace to attract the hip clientele. But you never bother to change the old warehouse ceiling. You just slap a coat of black paint on the the overhang like you ran out of money at the last minute and you're hoping nobody looks up. Which, like I said, mostly they don't.
The first time someone noticed me, I was new, like I said. To be honest, I don't know what put the idea in my head. Mainly, I guess I just wanted to see if I could do it. I'd done some urbex before. I had some friends who'd done a little phrogging. You never heard of that? Look it up. It's wild. Anyway, I guess the idea just popped into my head thinking about all this stuff. I guess really I should tell you about how it happened the first time.
It was that big coffee shop by the railroad tracks. You know the big one with the small shops in the back? The one with the really high ceiling? Well I ended up there randomly. Turned out I'd shown up on a day when the shops were all closed. That whole back area was dark. Nobody around. I was about to head back to the counter and grab a cup of coffee when I realized how nobody was even looking up. Everyone had a laptop open looking so damned absorbed.
So I scaled the wall. Easy as shit. I had a little experience climbing. Like I said, urbex.
Anyway, I'm expecting someone to say something. I get all the way to the crossbeams and sit my happy ass down. Look down. Everyone's still got their faces in a computer screen. Not even the baristas noticed me. I sat there for a good while before I decided to hop down. Laughed it off. But the next day i went back and did it again. This time the shops were open. But the workers were all on their phones, or counting registers, or doing inventory. None of them noticed me.
Before long I realized that, so long as I found a good spot and didn't move too much, I could stay up in the ceiling pretty much all day, just sitting on the crossbeams, Indian Style as we used to say.
Now, I've always been quick. I saw the possibilities right away. I applied at a few of these coffee shops, stayed just long enough to learn the entry codes, or to make copies of the keys, then made up some excuse about a "big job" that I had to take, and split. From there, it was just a matter of showing up after everyone had left and I'd stay overnight in the place. In the morning, I'd watch the place fill up, then hop down and make friendly with the staff. I'm good with people. Most of them liked me. I got some free drinks out of that.
Anyway, the point is this: the first time someone actually saw me. That shit scared me, if I'm honest. But in a good way. Exhilarating, I guess, like skydiving. I've never been, but I can imagine.
So this place is like all the rest. Hip decor, big empty space, and those ugly warehouse ceilings with all the sheet metal ductwork and iron crossbeams. I'm up in the ceiling. I'm looking at this guy for some reason. He reminded me of someone. Suddenly, he looks up. We make eye contact. He sees me. I mean, no doubt in my mind he sees me. I freeze. I feel scared. Exhilarating. I think something's about to happen, right? He's gonna tell the baristas. Maybe he's gonna scream. Shit, maybe he'll pull out a gun, I don't know.
You know what he did? I mean I already spoiled it already, telling you earlier, but he didn't do anything. He just looked away. He pretended he didn't see me. I watched him first look out the window, then look back at his computer. He pretended to work for a few minutes. I didn't take my eyes off him. I couldn't. Finally, this guy looks around the shop. He gets up, stuffs his laptop into his bag, and gives me one last look. A quick one. Then he skedaddles. I mean, he knows I'm there and he doesn't even tell anyone.
What did I feel? Confused, yeah. But more, I was angry. I mean, that sorta person is just a liar, aren't they? He saw me, I know he did, and he told himself he didn't. He lied. I was so damn mad. I knew people were self-absorbed. But that shit really was another level.
Well, he never came back. I only ever saw him once more. And he saw me. And he couldn't pretend anymore. I made sure of it that time.
From then on, I found myself hoping that someone to look at me. I waited and waited for it to happen again. Sometimes I was sure someone was, but then I'd look and the person's eyes would be fixed on the computer screen. You can feel when someone's eyes touch you, you know. They've actually done studies. It's a real thing. I began to feel it, but I could never catch the person in the act. I realized after a while, that if I closed my eyes and paid real hard attention I could tell where the eyes were, the ones that were looking at me.
And so I began to pick them out, one by one. I'd wait for them to leave. They'd still be pretending not to see me. Just like I said before. Liars, all of them.
Most of them lived near the coffee shops they visited. They walked. I followed. I found where they lived. These old warehouses provide lots of cover. I came back after dark. You pick up a lot of little tricks for sneaking into places doing urbex.
And the rest you know. I plucked out the eyes. For lying. Because they looked right at me and looked away.
But what you want to know is where they are. You found the eyes. Where are the bodies? Haven't you been listening? God damn it. It's funny. People are a fucking joke.
Nobody ever looks up.

OHSHC Rewrite: Episode 2
The Job of a High School Host!
Host Club x reader
Summary: Y/n learns the duties of a host.
Word Count: 4.9k
Episode Masterlist
You've been a host for almost two weeks now. It's been interesting, to say the least. Tamaki and the twins have been trying to get you into a dress since you put on the school uniform, but you cleaned the male uniform and refused all their demands.
Maria got letters from your friends back in y/c, to which she wanted to surprise you by putting them in your bag. You didn't notice them at school, and you didn't notice them when they were sticking out during homeroom.
But Hikaru and Kaoru did. Once the class was over, the three envelopes fell out of your backpack, though you kept walking. They looked at each other and nodded. Hikaru them and went on and they both went on with their day.
After doing your homework you rushed into the club room, only to see very real tropical decorations everywhere. The hosts had luau outfits on as well. "Welcome."
"This is different." You stated as you stepped in, looking around.
"Of course!" Tamaki posed as he talked. "It might be early fall but here at the Host Club we'd like our guests to feel as if they're in a tropical paradise. And plus, our heating system is... perfect!"
You gave him a slight look at his bragging, to which Kyoya smiled a bit. "Do you have a problem with the way we run our club y/n? Remember, you still owe us 8 million yen."
You set your bag down on your spot. "Charming." You said sarcastically, passing by him and giving him a sly smile. "I feel very free to speak my mind, really. So was this tropical island thing your idea?"
"All ideas dealing with the host club events come directly from the king. Although I will admit to casually slipping a Bali pamphlet onto his desk." He kept his smile as he continued writing in his book.
"Of course. Well someone should tell the king that he's really clever." You patted his arm before going and sitting down with your clients. "Good afternoon ladies—"
The twins each blew a whistle and marched over to you. "Hold it right there!" They said in unison. "Who's Julian?!"
You turned over to them, a bit surprised at the mentioning of that name. "What do you mean?"
"Three envelopes fell out of your bag, and one was from a boy named Julian." Kaoru said.
They then got very close to you, asking, "So who's Julian?!"
"An old friend." You shrugged, putting out your hand for the letters. They gave them back to you, but also gained the attention of Tamaki.
"How good of a friend is he?" He zoomed right behind your couch.
You didn't know why Tamaki was so territorial of his friends, but you knew there must be a reason. That didn't mean you couldn't still have fun with him. You fake sighed lovingly. "He's the best."
"Is he... handsome?"
"He has an adorable face. I love it so much!"
"You love it?" You gave you his puppy dog eyes.
"Yup."
"Do you have... feelings... for him?"
"Oh, I'm only totally in love with him."
"WHA~T?!" He then wrapped you in a hug. "But you're my little girl~"
You sighed again. "Yeah. It's too bad you're more his type."
"Huh?"
He blankly stared at you, and you bursted into a fit of giggles. "He's gay, so calm down."
"Oh." He then stood up and cleared his throat. "Well then, that's one less man to worry about. You don't know how many evil boys there are in the world, so you have to be careful."
"Yeah, I should also be careful of weird people who call themselves 'daddy'." An arrow struck through Tamaki as you walked over to the twins. "Thanks for holding onto these for me." Your smile made them blush. "And thank you for not opening them, since you guys are pretty nosey."
"We don't know what you're talking about." They both said as they shrugged.
"But y/n," Kaoru started saying.
"Why don't you open them for us?" Hikaru finished.
You scoffed. "Please guys, I'm working." You then turned to your clients as they sighed, smiling. "I'm sorry girls. What did you want to talk about?"
"Well, we were wondering if you were going to dress up in something tropical."
"Do you all want me to?" You asked, unsure if you wanted to go through with that.
"Yes!" They said happily.
Tamaki then appeared with a smile. "I already made you an outfit y/n. And look, we're a pair! Isn't it cute?"
You frowned. "You know I don't really like skirts."
He then showed you his big watery eyes. "But Kyoya gave you a dress and you accepted it no problem."
"He was doing it to be nice. You're doing this because you want to see me in a dress. That's weird."
He looked like he was going to burst from anger. He then pushed the outfit into your hands. "Just go change!"
You then changed into the shoulderless top with the long skirt, which also accompanied a lot of jewelry. You then went out and tried to discreetly go back to your clients. "Oh my goodness y/n, you're so cute!" One exclaimed.
"Y/N~" Tamaki jumped over to you and crushed you into a hug. "Everybody, look!"
"Let's not please." You whispered. Your face went red as you frustratedly looked to the ground.
"Wow." The twins said, grabbing your arms.
"Who knew y/n," Kaoru said.
"Could be such a girl." Hikaru finished.
"Looks cute." They said, giving you a thumbs up.
"Please stop drawing in more attention." You said quietly.
"Takashi~ look!" Honey dragged you over to them. "Doesn't she look adorable?"
"Yeah."
Tamaki and the twins had evil stars in their eyes as they inched closer to you. You didn't notice the blush on Mori's face when you went to go hide behind him. The three then shouted, "Give her to us!"
Mori shook his head and took your shoulders, guiding you to your couch.
"Thank you senpai." You said quietly. You then put your hands over your face. You peaked at your smiling clients. "Okay, I did this for you guys."
"How do you feel in cosplay?"
"Exhausted!" You put your hands to your side quickly only to begin shaking your arms, hearing the jewelry jingle as you moved. They began to giggle at your innocent and child-like movements. "Jeez, what's with this?"
"Y/n, you forgot your crown!" Tamaki stuck it out towards you as an offering.
You took a deep breath and drank some tea, not looking at him. "If it's worth more than me I'm not wearing it."
He gave you an angrily confused look. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"I'm not putting something ridiculous and way too expensive on my head. I don't even feel comfortable in this. It feels like I'm lowering the value of it by just wearing it." Your tone was a sarcastic one, which caused smiles from around your area. Though it was a joke, you were only half-kidding.
"Excuse me." A girl came up to you and said. "I believe we're supposed to be switching hosts now."
"Oh, you must be my next appointment." You grinned, waving to her childishly even though she was right in front of you. "It's nice to meet you."
She then grabbed your chin and brought your face closer to hers. "I've just decided. You're going to be my new favorite host." This seemed to effect Tamaki.
Once the club finished everything, you walked over to go change until Kyoya stopped you. "Your words with Tamaki seemed to amuse some of the guests, and many of those guests have requested you."
"Cool. I guess my clownery is likable." You chuckled and nodded.
Clownery. What an odd made up word. He thought about what his clients told them about you. You spoke with slang, though it almost as if you didn't realize it. They said that they found it adorable. Your speech being adorable. It was an interesting thought, in its own way.
Once you put back on your uniform, Kyoya instructed you to make Tamaki some instant ramen. You did so and finished cleaning. Once you finished that you sat down and noticed that Tamaki was irritated.
"C'mon boss, quit eating that commoner's ramen and help plan the party." Kaoru said.
"What's up with him?" You asked.
"He's just upset with Lady Kanako choosing you." Kyoya said as he typed away on his laptop. "She's had the illness for a while now though, so I don't know why he's too surprised."
"What disease?"
"The host hopping disease." The twins said.
You giggled, grinning. "So he's jealous that I stole her from him."
"Shut up! I couldn't care less!" Tamaki yelled. "That's it, my patience has run out. It's time you started dressing like a girl!"
"That's really what's bothering you?"
"I just don't get it. How can you be so popular with the ladies when you yourself are a lady?!" He then went into his private chest, digging though it. "Now you listen to daddy. DADDY WANTS YOU TO GO BACK TO THE WAY YOU WERE AND KEEP WEARING SKIRTS!!"
He brought out a huge framed photo of you in a high and tight half pony tail, which contrasted your usually messy pony tail. You were wearing a cropped long sleeved dark gray shirt, with a black skirt and dark panty hose under.
"DON'T GO BLOWING UP MY PHOTOS WITHOUT ASKING ME FIRST!!"
He hung it up on the wall and began crying. Everybody crowded around it.
"The more I look at this photo the more amazed I am." Kaoru said. "How did you go from that to wearing suits?"
Everyone turned to look at you. "I used to have a neighbor who owned a Burlesque lounge. Sometimes she needed someone to cover a waitress shift, and I would do it. This was the most covered up she would allow me to be though."
"I see." Kyoya said. "Those places are known for having women reveal a large amount of skin."
"I wore that stuff cause I had to. I feel more comfortable not showing my legs. I don't care if I dress like a dude sometimes."
"A GIRL SHOULD NEVER ADDRESS HERSELF AS A DUDE!!" Tamaki yelled. "MAMA~!! Y/n's using those dirty boy words again."
"I hate to break up this interesting conversation, but do you have any formal dancing experience?" Hikaru asked.
You turned and smiled nervously. "No, but I don't have to go to parties and stuff, right?"
Tamaki's eyes began to shine. "I absolutely forbid that. You must go to every event hosted by the host club if you want to pay back your debt! If you fail to do so, you'll be demoted back to errand boy" He then got a lot happier. "And that also means you have to wear a dress at the party!"
"No it's cool, I have a formal guy outfit." They all stared at you. "What? I got it when I had to go to a wedding."
"Why won't you wear something like thi~s?" Tamaki said with tears in his eyes.
"Cause it was for a job."
"This is a job!"
"No, this is indentured servitude. There's a difference. Slight, but it's there." You then briefly thought. "Oh, I guess that also means I have to learn the man's part since I'm a host."
Kanako was instructing you what to do, and you were getting the hang of it quickly. "You're quite a fast learner miss y/n."
"And you're quite an exceptional teacher Miss Kanako." Your gaze went to Tamaki, who looked sad. He wanted to teach you, but was too tall to be in the girl role. He glanced over to you, and you smiled and waved. He hesitantly gave you a small smile and waved back. Because of this you weren't paying attention tripped up the both of you. "I'm so sorry Lady Kanako!"
She pulled you closer. "That's quite alright."
"You're very forward." You smiled down at her before rolling to the side and pulling the both of you up. "C'mon, let's get you some tea."
You brought her tea as she happily held onto the cup. "You have a new order for tea sets I see. The handy work looks like it's Genorie."
"You have a keen eye mademoiselle." Kyoya said as he passed by.
"Such a pretty color." She gazed into the tea cup with a smile. "How lovely."
"Woah, you seem to know a lot about tea sets, huh?" You asked. This, unbeknownst to you, gained Tamaki's attention.
"What? Of course not!" She said shakily, blushing. "What ever would give you that idea?!"
Just then someone walked in with a box in hand. "You ordered a new tea set?" He asked Kyoya as he walked over to him.
"Yes we did. Y/n, come over and grab these." Kyoya said.
You nodded and smiled at him as he gave you the box. You opened the lid and looked at the set. "Wow, these are really nice. Are you an expert on things like this?"
Kanako began laughing. "Oh y/n, you're so out of the loop. It can be pardoned though." She turned back with a teasing smile. "After all, he doesn't look like an heir to a first class industry empire."
His facial expression changed as he looked at her. You noticed but decided not to say anything.
"The Susushima family has dealt mainly with table wear." Kyoya explained. "They are, in fact, a first class company."
"I think that's so awesome! You seem to have a lot of passion into what you're going to be doing, which is very admirable." You told him with a small smile.
He turned to you and bashfully smiled. "You think so? I'm honored. Well, see you all next time."
After he left and you walked back to Kanako with the box still in hand. "He's pretty handsome, don't you think?" You asked in your native language.
"Um, pardon?"
"Oh, sorry." You cleared your throat. "I'm asking if you think he's attractive."
She blushed profusely and nervously sipped on her tea. "I don't know! I suppose!"
"I get the feeling you two know each other."
She spat out her tea and began to panic again. "What would ever give you that silly conclusion? I have no idea what you're talking about! Anyways, take care!" She quickly left.
You stood up right before Honey jumped onto your back, almost knocking the box out of your hands. "Y/n-chan~! Guess what? They do know each other! Suzushima-chan is Kasuga-chan's fiance."
"Woah, really?"
"Kyoya," Tamaki said. "What do you know about this?"
He looked in his book. "They were childhood friends. Their parents set up an arranged marriage between them. I didn't find this information of any importance so I disregarded it."
"And what do you know of Suzushima?"
"Toro Suzushima. Outstanding grades, bare social status. Ordinary looking. He's reliable, in case of persuasion to place blame."
"He doesn't have much presence and is faint hearted." The twins said.
"In order words, he's boring." Kyoya closed his book.
"Wow," You said. "Who knew you guys were so cold to other men."
"We don't have any use of him so there's no reason to be nicer in describing him." Kyoya explained.
"Interesting philosophy." You said teasingly. "I can feel the kindness radiating off of you."
"Suzushima is a good boy." Honey said, on top of Mori. "Right?"
"Yeah." Mori replied.
"Alright men! It's time for a plan!" Tamaki announced. "It's our job at the Ouran Host Club to make every woman happy!"
When Tamaki finished explaining his plan, everybody packed up and left, leaving only Kyoya and you. He had just finished on his laptop and was packing up his things. You walked behind him. "Senpai, is it okay if I ask you a question?"
"Is it about what I said earlier?" He didn't turn around.
"Kind of. I mean, if we're talking about the same thing." You kept your voice steady and light.
"Was it what I said about not needing Suzushima?"
"Woah, no. Not at all. I was thinking about how you did a background check on him."
He paused briefly. "I see. What of it?"
Your voice unintentionally shrank. "Did you do one on me?"
"Yes. A few days ago, in fact. You fail to mention your brother when people ask about your history." His voice was so calm and normal. It made you feel very exposed.
"Everything I've said isn't a lie." You managed to say firmly.
"I know that as well. I understand your situation and I respect your reasonings for not talking about him. You've been through quite a lot, and you have a right to privacy."
"Please answer this next question honestly." His silence meant that he was still listening. "Do you think of me any lower or less, I don't know, appealing, now that you know everything about me?" You then nervously chuckled. "Unless it was already that low to begin with."
"I assure you that my views of you are of a hard working person who seems to make many people happy. Not wanting people to know certain things about you and having certain insecurities do not waver what I 'think' of you."
You let out a breath and grinned, hugging him from the back. He widened his eyes, but didn't tense nor pull away.
"Thank you Kyoya senpai. This really means a lot." You then let go of him. "Okay, I need to walk home before it gets dark. See you tomorrow." You then quickly went to the door. "Sorry if that hug was weird for you!" You called out as you left.
His opinions mattered to you. It was an interesting thought, in its own way.
As you were getting ready for the party, Maria came into your room. "Can't you be at least a bit girly?"
"Funny, that's really funny Maria." You turned to face her and sat down. "You're quite the tomboy yourself sometimes."
"I'm serious y/n/n. You should try a little makeup. You'll look nice for all your friends. One of them is bound to fall for you." She said in an offering tone.
You chuckled and shook your head. "They're all just friends. And I shouldn't have to try to impress anybody."
She sighed, going over to your nightstand and opening a drawer. She took out a black box and opened it, revealing the earrings you got back after your father was imprisoned. "At least wear one of your mom's earrings. They all look cute on you."
You looked in the box. She loved to collect them. "I don't know, maybe."
She grabbed your cheeks and smushed them. "Think about it." You grabbed her cheeks and did the same. "I also have something to tell you."
"Good or bad?"
She hesitated before quickly saying, "My sisters are coming for a few days to visit." And then sped walked out of the room.
"What?!" You followed her. "Please tell me Linda's son won't be coming too." She gave you a look, and that was all you needed to know. "Oh my gosh, I'm going to my club. That's gonna be my safe space for now."
"At least you have a safe space. I'll have to deal with Linda 24/7."
You then went back into your room and hesitantly grabbed a pair of earrings, putting them in your pants pocket. "I gotta go. I should start walking now."
She stopped you. "Take off the blazer at least." You took off the blazer with a pout. She then pulled off your messy ponytail. "Do something better with your hair too." You tied up two messy double buns. "There. You look adorable. Go."
You got there and joined all except Tamaki at the second floor in the auditorium. "Welcome, my little lambs," Tamaki said from the third floor. "To a magical night of your lives!"
Kyoya then spoke up. "As always ladies we are here for your enjoyment. Dance to your heart's content. The best dancer will be decided among us hosts and will be crowned queen. As a reward the queen will receive a passionate kiss on the cheek from our king, Tamaki Suoh. Good luck to all you."
They all began cheering, and you snickered over the stupidity of the 'prize'. The twins came over to you and began playing with your buns.
"These are cute." Hikaru said.
"You have a raggedy yet carefree look. The hairstyle compliments you." Kaoru told you. "Hey, have you ever been to a party before?"
"Not formal parties. Only block parties on my street."
"Well, since you're here y/n, you might as well enjoy yourself." Kyoya said. "We have quite the spread of desserts."
You then innocently asked, "Like squishy ice cream?"
"SQUI—"
"—SHY—"
"—ICE CREAM?!"
Tamaki flipped down to your floor and pointed to Kyoya, who was already dialing a number on his phone. "Kyoya! Order some squishy ice cream right away!"
"Two orders of mochi please." He said to his phone. The twins smothered you in a hug as your face burned from embarrassment. You felt like such an idiot foreigner right now.
In the meantime you danced with some girls, being flamboyant and silly when dancing with them. There was one girl who tripped over your shoes and almost fell until you caught her. She wouldn't stop laughing loudly, and it caused you to laugh as well. Others wanted to talk, so you danced regularly with them.
As you took a break from dancing with some girls Kanako approached you. "There you are y/n, I've been looking everywhere for you. May I have this next dance?"
"It would be my pleasure Lady Kanako." You began to dance with her. "You're so formal. It's really fascinating to me."
"Your expressions and slang are fascinating to me as well." She said.
"Kasuga-chan's here!" Honey announced.
"Honey, Mori," Tamaki said. "Commence with the operation."
Both nodded before swiftly grabbing you away and dashing to an empty room with the twins and Kyoya. "Did you guys really have to be so forceful?"
"Nevermind that, go and change." Hikaru shoved a bag into your hands and pushed you into the changing room.
"Remember y/n, we only have 37 minutes before the climax of the night," Kyoya said. "And a little accident might make the evening more interesting."
You saw a tube of concealer on the small table when you went in. You knew Kyoya left it for you, and it made you smile. You quickly changed into the dark purple dress and put concealer on the scars of your legs. You then remembered the earrings in your pocket and put them on. They were rose gold hoops with what looked like flower petals on them.
You then went outside, where the twins quickly put on your makeup. Kaoru then gently touched one of your earrings. "We didn't put these in the bag. Are these yours?"
"Yeah." You quietly said.
"They compliment the dress. It was good that you brought them." You smiled at him, causing him to blush and look away.
"Y'know," Hikaru said as they finished up. "I know the boss wants to stick to the strategy, but this is..."
"What are you all doing standing around here?" Tamaki asked as he came in. "The guests are wai—"
You stood up and faced him. You then began walking as the boys stared at you. "You look cute!" Honey stated.
Everyone blushed but Honey and Kyoya, who were both smiling. "My face feels heavy." You pouted as you kept walking.
"Hurry up!" The twins called out as you kept walking.
"Yeah, I got it." You muttered. As you left, the twins and Tamaki began to fawn over you.
You walked into the room they told you to. Suzushima turned around with a surprised look. You timidly smiled as you walked over to him. "You're not at all what I pictured from the letter you wrote me."
You kept your smile on. "Really?" He nodded. "Can I actually see the letter please?" He then gave it to you, and you read over it:
I'm in love love with you! From the first day I laid eyes on you I've been head over heals in love! Tee hee! All these feelings I have are harpooned to my heart as they keep whipping around my mind like the restless waves! When the special day comes, I want to randezvou with you on Noah's arc! I do I do!
You wondered who the hell would write such a stupid letter. It was actually a collaborative write with Kyoya and the twins. "Excuse me," Suzushima interrupted your thoughts. "Have we met before?"
"No! It's um, the first time we've ever talked!"
"I'm flattered by your letter, but I'm afraid I can't return your feelings." He said. "My heart has been taken by somebody else."
"My apologies! I didn't realize you had a girlfriend."
"No, she's not my girlfriend. I don't even think she's even interested anymore." He looked very sad.
"Well I don't know about that. Your calming presence is a joy to be around, and I'm sure she'd agree." You offered.
He sighed. "Thank you, but honestly, I'm sure she'd be better off with someone more self confident. That's why I'm leaving next month to study abroad. Hopefully become a better man for her. Maybe it's selfish, but I hope she'll wait for me."
"I won't lie to you, it's a little selfish." An arrow went through him. You squished your index finger and thumb. "Just a little. But Toro, if she really is the love of your life then I'm sure she'll still love you just as much as she probably already does."
He was about to say something as he reached out for you, but you heard the door open. You didn't turn so she wouldn't see your face. "Oh, I'm sorry to intrude." You could tell she was crying. "I'll just leave you two be."
You heard her heels and knew she was running away, and he ran after her. "Kanako, wait!"
You then walked next to Tamaki. "We didn't make things worse, did we?"
"He did run after her. He needs to learn how to be more sure of himself."
You were both walking back when you tripped again over your heels. Tamaki interlocked your arms together. You looked up at him. "You really need to learn how to walk in heels. They look so lovely on you, and it'd be a shame if you tripped and hurt yourself."
You smiled and nodded, leaning on his shoulder. You then tripped again, only for him to hold onto you and prevent you from falling. You giggled, followed shortly by Tamaki chuckling with you.
You both went over to the balcony. The lights hit, and you saw Kanako and Toro. "Let us join together and announce that this couple has been chosen for the final waltz of the night." Tamaki announced.
He said something to her, squeezing his eyes shut and asking her for a dance. You snickered. "Why are you laughing?" Kaoru asked.
"I know he's trying his best, but he looks kinda goofy right now." All the hosts looked from you to them and smiled. "They're awesome together though."
"May this awkward couple be forever blessed!" Tamaki exclaimed.
Kyoya then stepped forward. "And now for the grand prize, a kiss from our royalty."
"Y/n with step in for Tamaki." Kaoru said with a banana peel in his hand.
"And the kiss with be for Toro Suzushima." Hikaru added with another banana peel in his hand.
Tamaki was shocked, and you turned to Kyoya. "I'm not gonna—"
"It'll lower your debt by a third."
"I mean it is just a peck." You smiled and headed down.
"Wha..." Tamaki said.
"Also," You said as you began walking down the stairs. "You guys need to work on your love letter skills, because that was embarring for me to read."
As you went down Suzushima saw you and gave you a surprised expression. "You..."
"Y/n," Kanako said. "Were you the girl with Toro?"
"Hi guys. We just needed to give you two a gentle nudge. I promise I'm not in love with Toro. And I'm really sorry and embarrassed they gave you that stupid letter. I didn't write any of that." You smiled at them.
He nodded. "Thank you."
You then looked at Kanako. "May I?"
"Sure. It'll mark the beginning of our relationship."
Up from the balcony, Tamaki was reaching out for you weakly. "I wonder if this is y/n-chan's first kiss?" Honey thought out loud.
This made Tamaki snap, and he began running to you. "Wait y/n~!"
He slipped on the twins' banana peels and accidentally pushed you, causing you to kiss Toro on the lips instead. Kyoya did say that a little accident would make the night a little more interesting.

My back is really hurty right now but today was a really nice day. Just long and rainy.
I was very tired last night. I'm very tired today. But it's all right. I slept okay last night. I woke up with James's alarm around 6 and fell back asleep until 7. He was gone when I woke up. He had gone to his parents house to get the car to get the last couple things for my other apartment. The plan now is for me to go on Saturday and Sunday and clean. Trying to make it as nice as possible. Then we will go in with are U-Haul when he has a day off. And get my bed and my bookshelf. I'm still stressed out about it all but it's fine. I think I'm going to bring some cleaning stuff and trash bags and things like that over this weekend. Try to just do as much as possible.
I felt okay when I got up. It wasn't thrilled about being awake. Are going to work but I had some positive feelings for the guy. Last night at around 10 p.m. Tiffany called me and asked if I would feel okay leading the older kids science class. And honestly that's what I thought we were doing from the beginning so I was fine with that. I left here around 7:40 and went down to the bus stop.
I got to work at 8:15 and went upstairs and sorry it's setting things up. My fabric was missing but I found it underneath I dropped off. No idea why it was there. It's all good. Set up and then I went to talk to Edina about changing the stem project. And then I went to go talk to Tiffany about the schedule. Because one of the reasons I am leaving stem is so that a Dina can see how the project should go. So having her do stem first doesn't make any sense.
But after some phone calls and stuff we were able to work that out and I got the schedule and I want it. My art is the same. Then we have reading lunch and recess. And then I go to stem with the older kids. While the little kids go to book arts. And then the little kids come to stem and then the older kids go to book Arts. And that worked really well. Today was so much more chill than it has been and it was great.
I set up some stuff for science. Mixed up watercolor paint in bottles. Made some examples. We were doing sneeze art. And it was very silly. But we started the day with some annoyances because I am very much all about organized chaos. And one of my kids ask to go to the bathroom while we were at breakfast and I told him to go ahead and he ran out the door like a first grader will do. And the new principal admonished me and Marcus for not watching our kids. And it was just very rude and the very first interaction I've ever had with this woman who has not introduced yourself to us yet. So I just felt some kind of way. But whatever. Hopefully she can redeem herself to me because so far is not looking good.
But besides that today was great. We went upstairs we did yoga. I did yoga with the little kids first and then went did with the big kids. With the big kids they also introduce some of my ballet stretches and that was really fun. Getting them to use their brains a little bit. Not all of them are participating but the ones that are I can tell her having a good time.
Art went really well. I was worried about Jeremiah for a while because he just did not understand that he was moving from beading to Patches. But really that was because yesterday he didn't actually do beading because he kept spilling the beads all over the place. But that's fine. He ended up sitting with our youth worker Trinity and he drew these little characters that he likes on a patch that we've been hot glued on. I was so proud of him I took that picture up there with him smiling all big. So sweet. I just wish that he would stop whining. That's my only thing that I cannot stand. We're working on it though.
Reading was great. We drew pictures on the computers of a book we've read recently. I drew some stuff from Flowers for Algernon. And then we talked about them and we had to have some conversations about critique and how you talk about other people's work. Even if you don't like it. You have to be kind. I doubt with some little kid tears but everything was okay. We were having fun.
Lunch and recess we're fine. I think I'm supposed to be having my break during recess now but that's very early for me and I don't want to have my break then so I just didn't. I stayed outside and just chilled. Then we went inside for stem.
It was very confusing for the kids because they had to go into a different room that they've been used to for the last 2 weeks. But we got everybody in the right place and then I had to take it sit down and I kind of gave them a mini introduction on myself and explain what we were going to do and my expectations for them. That if they did the project they would get free time. It's an incentive and honestly they need it. It's summer camp it's not school they should be able to have free time. Especially because I just read that article last night about how not having free play and free time outside of a structured adult activity is really detrimental for your kids and their ability to self soothe and self direct. They need to be able to learn how to do that. So it's very important for me to figure out places in the day where they can have that.
And it worked out really well. They were loud. And they weren't always listening but we explained the project. We talked about how you sneeze at a hundred miles an hour and you cough at 50 miles an hour. And then we got our watercolor paper and are smocks and we went outside.
For both classes it works very well. But the little kids were actually better at it because Miss Adina only left a little kids Spritz their paper twice. And I let the big kids do it as much as they wanted. So some of the big kids ones fell apart because they were so wet. But they were having a really good time and they were color mixing and they were being messy and exploring the medium. And they were learning but it wasn't like a lot. It was just fun. And that's what I wanted. You're outside and it's too hot and so after about 15 minutes we went back in.
We all later artwork down put her smokes away I check back in with them make sure they understood the two facts that I thought them. And then I told them guys you did the project you get 20 minutes of free time. So they got their laptops out and they got their phones out and they were having a good old time. And then at the end we close the laptops and cleaned up and they said thank you Miss Jessie and they headed out. It was so much smoother than every other day I have experience seeing the older kids. It was great. I hope that we can keep that momentum.
For the second half. When I had two little kids do it. I stepped back. I let Adina handle that. I only said a couple things. They all were smocks. They got four colors instead of six colors. Mr. Marcus was there to help. We went outside and we all did our thing. The kids work was much nicer than the older kids. They weren't as wet. You actually saw the spray pattern. It was good. Had them bring them all upstairs we laid them out too dry. I'm going to hang them up tomorrow probably. And then we went in. We watched a video and it was nice. I had a good day.
We finish up the day with some snacks and some hanging out on our yoga mats. Took the ball downstairs to go home. Hung out on the hill until everyone was picked up. And I was able to leave at like 3:45.
The bus took a little while and it was really hot out. Just so heavy and humid. And that's because rain was coming. When I was getting off the bus it wasn't raining at. And when I got to my bike it wasn't raining yet. But about two blocks down the street it was starting to rain. At first it was just light. And I thought I would be able to make it home. But then it started to pour. Just absolutely downpouring on me. It felt nice but there was lightning and a lot of wind. The few other people I saw outside trying to get stuff together and run in for looking at me with the same Panic I'm sure was on my face. I was soaked to the skin. But it was just funny at that point. There was nothing else I could do so I just went upstairs and told James to take my off of the day photo. Because it was funny. And then I took a shower.
James to pick up pizza for dinner. He seeing Hamilton with his parents and sister tonight. Which is great because it's the anniversary of the Duel at Weehawken. That's amazing. I don't know if it was on purpose but it's great. So he hung out with me for an hour and then went to go have dinner with them. And I've just been hanging out at home.
I worked on my Furby project for a little while. I've been watching videos and playing with sweetpea. Sweetpea loves pipe cleaners so he was very excited about those. I painted my toenails and now I think I'm going to get up and maybe go do something but I have no idea what my eyebrows? Play with my makeup? Who knows!
Tomorrow is the last day of camp for the week. 5 days is very hard. I do not like working 8 hours. I love my job it's very easy. But it is still a lot. I don't think I was built to work eight hours a day. I am a baby. But it's going to be a good day. I'm slightly concerned about the project tomorrow because I'm not positive we have the right materials for it. But still going to be fun. And then me and James are going to go see to Apartments. It was nice. But they're both of Mount Vernon and we're both really kind of committed to moving to Bolton Hill now. So we'll see what happens we'll make it work. I'm excited to see places because it gives us some good perspective of what the other wants. We both are pretty sure we want the same things and we know what the other one likes but it's still fun. Even if we're not going to rent these ones.
Hope you guys all have a good night. I'm sending you all Good Vibes through the universe. Sleep well. Be safe. Try not to get rained on.

(1) M! Hello! I'd like a matchup please! The part they're from doesn't matter. I'm a bisexual Libra woman with her head in the clouds with ideas and daydreams of all kinds. Because of that, I am very artistic with a great appreciation for art and film (especially animation). I'm a physically affectionate person and touch is my main love language (that and quality time). I'm also known to be pretty dramatic and passionate about the people and interests in my life
Hey dear! I cut off your username on the second ask because I figured you accidentally sent it off anon! It’s all about the respecc of privacy guys uwu
For your matchup! This one was quite easy to figure out actually! Its like you were just made perfectly to fit with him! Without further ado, here’s your jobro!
Me, frantically sobbing in hopes you get the Clockwork Orange reference.
Fanart by: @zzyzzyy
Kakyoin Noriaki!
He really likes your way to see life, so wondrous and so innocently easygoing.
You meet in a summer oil painting course, and you just hit it off right off the bat due to the fact you sit next to each other and give each other support and tips.
You go for a cool drink afterwards and he shares his Instagram account with you so you can see his art! You talk about how he’s been to Egypt, and that’s so cool?? You mention loving to travel the world someday, and he tells you that’s one of his dreams too!
You give him your account and number just in case, going home and getting a text from him two days later, showing you a picture of a sketch he’d been drawing. It’s a very pretty still of a cacti, and you tell him it suits him to draw plants. He tells you he’d like to see your works too on the next class.
“Wanna go for a walk? I feel kind of blocked and can’t focus on my drawing today.” He’d send in one nice weekend afternoon. You go for a walk along the shopping district and notice a beautiful summer hat you’d love to purchase. Sadly, you didn’t have the money on you.
“Don’t worry, I’ll buy it for you, as a small token of appreciation for you being such a wonderful, positive influence in my life.”
You get flustered and try to dissuade him, in the end giving in when he manages to convince you with a “I won’t accept no for an answer, Y/N.”
You get the hat and he places it on your head with a smile. He stares at you, making you lower the wing of the hat over your eyes and shyly looking up at him. “What’s wrong?” You muttered, making him slowly lower his hands and sweetly hold your wrists, then your hands between his and peek at you from under the hat. “I think I’ve found my inspiration.” He started. “Would you mind coming over? I think I’ll be able to finish my piece if you’re present.”
You go to his place, and notice he’d been drawing a feminine figure, when asking him about it, he seems pensive.
“I started it out of a feeling I had, a rampant decision, but... I think I know now what, or more importantly, who I was trying to portray.”
After you sit in his sofa and look around the apartment, trying to ignore his gaze on you with flushed cheeks, you hear him clear his throat, leaving the wooden palette to the side and cleaning his brush with a uninterested look he was probably faking, because his cheeks were red.
“Can I... have you over more often, Y/N?”
“Sure, Nori, anytime.”
You came by his place regularly after that day. After the summer oil paint course, you’d just directly head over to his house with him and spend the night. You always had a nice dinner together, watched some movie and then, when Morpheus struck, you went to bed. You usually slept in his bed on his command, while he slept on the sofa.
One of these nights, after three months of friendship, he walked over to where you laid in his bed, quietly pretending to be asleep while staring at the moon from the window, with your back to him.
“You truly are beautiful no matter what you’re doing, Y/N.” He whispered, sighing afterwards and carefully sitting on the opposite end of the bed while holding one folded leg with his hands.
“I think it’s getting to the point I should really tell you, I don’t think I can keep it for myself for much longer.”
You turn around and stare at him through shiny eyes while sitting up, leaning into his direction.
“What do you want to tell me?” You teased, knowing full well what he attempted to communicate.
“That there is nothing I think about with as much love and eager passion in this world, than having you be mine, Y/N.”
“Well, I’m all yours, Kak.” He leaned into you, quickly sliding his arms around your figure and pulling you into a hug, making you both fall into the mattress between chuckling and giggling. “You’ve no idea how I’ve dreamed to hear that from you, dear.”
When dating, he’d love for you to go on marathons of good movie classics while he holds you close to him on your living-room. You have this weird habit of, instead of laying on the sofa, you muster up all the cushions you find and toss them on the ground, nestling yourselves in them and watching the movie with the snacks in the floor before you.
When he can and finds one, he’ll buy you tickets to art expositions and take you there, completing the date day with a nice movie night out or ordering takeout from your favorite place to take home with you.
Some days, a date will just mean you both staying home and drawing or painting away next to each other. That’s how it is sometimes, and you love this.
Get ready to calmly but not so composedly discussing movie endings and artists’s work or drama. “Remember Egon Schiele?” “Yeah, I love him!” “This is him now, feel old yet?” He’d shown you a poorly drawn picture of a humanoid screaming man with a bad orange spot as background filler color on MS Paint. A pea went flying his direction, starting a childish food war. This was common occurrence under your roof.
You actually enjoyed watching anime together, so you did! You’ll never forget the day you decided to watch Terror in Resonance together and sobbed into each other’s arms for long hours. Oh, how you’d dully noted to never watch a sad anime ever again, at least not without being mentally prepared first.
Your guilty pleasure series to watch together is actually Sailor Moon. You’ll sit in bed at night, close one to the other and place the laptop in between your laps, playing the episode and almost instantly singing along to the opening. He likes to just sing the chorus with you and hum the instrumental.
When your anniversary came around (because yes, you celebrated yearly the day you’d started going out) you were eager to see what vacation had your boyfriend planned this time. Would it be Europe, or Asia this time? America? Who knows, you were thrilled when you saw him come from the door with two tickets waving in his hands.
I hope it’s okay! This heat makes it hard to focus ;w;

A Fishy Dilemma: MerJack AU CH. 2
The first thing Sean was aware of was the sensation of floating. Voices could be heard as he drifted in and out of consciousness. As he finally started to wake fully he was able to recognize what they were saying. “You can’t experiment on him! He’s a person, he has rights! And last I checked human experimentation is illegal!” He heard a familiar female voice shout. “Well we can’t keep this confidential and most certainly can’t keep him here unless we do! What do expect us to do?! We can’t just let him go off on his own! And he certainly wouldn’t be able to take care of himself like this,” He heard a male voice say. It kinda sounded like Doctor Bunsen. “I’ll take care of him then!” “What?!” “You heard me! I’ll take care of him. At my house or his, whichever he prefers! You have the spare equipment to build a tank for him there! So let me take care of him! I’ll monitor his condition and you won’t have to worry about this getting out. Just please, try to make a cure!” Wait, Sara? Was that Sara? And what the hell were they talking about?
"*Sigh* Fine. But if someone finds out about this mess while he’s under your care none of this will count as credit towards your zoology degree. Got it?“ “Yes Dr. Bunsen.” “It looks like he’s waking up. You better go explain things to him.” Bunsen said. Fully awake now Sean’s eyes fluttered open. His eyes widened when he saw he was in a huge glass tank full of water. Wait, how in the flying fuck was he breathing?! He tried to swim to the surface but froze when he realized something. His legs. Why couldn’t he feel his legs?! He looked down and barely held in a shout when he saw a long, green and blue fish tail where his legs should be. He quickly examined the rest of his body and found fin-like appendages on his arms and a wavy dorsal fin on the back of his tail. Thankfully he didn’t find any gills but he figured there must be some in his esophagus or something since he was breathing underwater.
He saw Sara approaching and did his best to swim over to the side of the tank, not used to swimming like this. He hoisted himself up on the edge so his head was above the water. “Jack! You’re finally awake! I was getting really worried. Are you okay? I mean other than this whole really crazy situation,” She said, clearly concerned for his well-being. “You mean other than the fact that I’m suddenly half fish? I guess I’m okay. Really freaking the fook out though. What the hell happened?” Jack said, trying to stay calm. Flipping out wouldn’t help things. “Apparently that vial you were taking to Dr. Bunsen’s held a highly experimental serum that was supposed to splice particular strands of fish DNA with whatever living cells it came in contact with. It was meant to be a way to heal wounds faster. But as you can obviously see there were some pretty severe unexpected side affects when it got into you. Thankfully they're already working on a cure,” Sara explained.
“So what am I supposed to till the cure is ready?” He asked. “Well I managed to convince them to not keep you here. I’ve been put in charge of you till this whole mess is over. Is there a place in your house big enough to fit a tank for you to stay in? From what little we’ve been able to gather so far you can’t be completely out of the water for more than an hour or two. According to some blood tests they did you’ll get severely dehydrated if you're dry for longer than that time period,” She asked. “Uh yeah. I think my living room would be big enough if the couch was pushed back,” Jack said. “Okay. What’s your address? We’ll need to know where you live to get everything there,” Sara said. After he told her she let Dr. Bunsen know where to take everything. They already had his house keys since they had been in his clothes. When he had started changing while he was passed out they had to remove them.
Sara sat in a chair by Sean’s tank as they waited. They were gonna get something to transport him home in. Now that things had calmed down a bit she couldn’t help but blush at the fact that Jack was currently shirtless. She quickly looked away when he caught her staring. Eventually a stretcher was brought over. They were planning on having him lay on that and they were gonna keep him moist with a soaked blanket. Sara helped him onto the stretcher along with a few other people and he was put into the back of an old ambulance they had managed to get ahold of. The plan was that if anyone saw they would just assume he was being brought home from a hospital since the wet blanket would be covering everything up. Sara sat in the back with him since she was going to be his caretaker till he was cured.
After about a half-hour they pulled into his driveway. Sara and two other people hauled his stretcher out of the back of the vehicle and hauled him inside. When they got to his living room he saw they had put in a nice sized tank with a filter to keep the water clean as well as a ladder in and out and a little platform for him to sit and lay on so he wouldn’t have to constantly be in the water. Since Sara would essentially have to be living with him till everything blowed over, stuff from her house had been brought into the guest bedroom. She had one of the workers watch him while she went to get a few things they hadn’t thought to bring. He smiled when he saw that she had brung over a bunch of gaming stuff and a laptop. A fellow gamer huh?
Once everything was dealt with he sat down on the platform in his tank. “So is there anything you want? I’m here to help however I can,” Sara said. Jack glanced over at his TV. Everything was still hooked up and since this platform was above water level he knew immediately what he wanted. “I haven’t played OverWatch in a while. And it’s got multiplayer so would you like to play it with me?” He asked. Sara smirked. “You’re on!” She said getting him a wireless controller and turning the TV and game on. Sara chose Sombra for her character and they ended up playing for a couple hours. The nice thing about it was that things felt normal while they were playing. For that small amount of time he forgot about the fact that he was now half fish.
After awhile they eventually turned the game off. “You want anything to eat?” Sara asked. “Sure! I got a pizza in the freezer! Can you make that?” Jack replied. “Yeah pizza sounds good,” Sara said, going into the kitchen. Around a half hour later they were eating pizza and watching YouTube. “Shiet!” He suddenly yelled. “What, what is it?” Sara asked, concerned. “What am I gonna do about Youtube?! I can’t record like this!” He said. “You could always say you’re really sick or need a break and need to stop recording for a while. I know they’ll all be patient and try to support you. Your fans all really care and wouldn’t mind if you had to stop for awhile. And you could still interact with them, you just can’t post any pictures or videos of yourself till you’re cured,” She said. Sean sighed. “I guess I’ll have to. We can’t risk them finding out about this,” He finally said after thinking it over. He had Sara give him his phone and left a quick explaination on his Twitter and Tumblr and recorded a very short video for YouTube to explain things, being careful to show nothing but his head.
He got a bunch of messages from people showing their support, his friends doing so as well. He was glad to see that nobody was particularly upset and that they were willing to wait till he was better. His friends and fans truly were amazing people. He would have to find a special way to thank them all once all of this was over. After playing a few more games he decided to call it a night. He lay down on the platform, about a half inch of water on it and his tail dangling over the side a little in the water. Sara got him a pillow and a blanket that wouldn’t get ruined by the water and he eventually fell asleep.
