Chapter 4 of Catching The Flames.

When we got out of the van, I just realised that it's colder at night and the fact that are less buildings here, making the winds directly piercing through our skin. I should've brought a coat, what was I thinking?

" Y/N, where's your coat? "

Jaemin asked.

" I'm fine with the cold, so I didn't bring one. "

You lied with teeth clenched together,to make it less obvious that you were jittering under this facade.

Jeno who stood in front of you, looked at you unsurely.

" You guys should get to the make up artists, while Mr Kang and I set up the cameras. "

All of them nodded their heads, silently walking towards the booth that was set up for the occasion.

The winds were starting to get even worse, I could feel my hands getting numb from handling the cold metal camera stands.

When I finished wiring the lighting, I looked up to see a pair of gloves dangling in front of my face.

" At least wear a pair of gloves, your fingers are turning blue. "

It was Jeno, smiling with his iconic eye smile.

" Thank you. "

I took them and put it on. The gloves made I hands warm but a little too big for me to maneuver the equipment for their shoot.

Jeno seemed to notice the complications too, because the next thing he did warmed your heart.

He took one of my hands to fold over the excess cloth at the top of the glove to make the glove smaller, then he did the other hand also.

" There, better. "

" T-thank you. "

I went back to adjusting the cameras and lighting to prevent him from seeing the blush forming on my cheeks.

When I finished double checking, Jeno placed his jacket around my shoulders.

" No, no I can't. You can't get sick, you're an idol..."

" It's fine, you're taking my photos first, I can't wear this jacket when I'm taking them, so you should wear it. "

" Oh, okay. I'll be back with Mr Kang to take the photos. Then you should wait in the car until it ends, so there's heating. I don't want you to catch a cold. "

" Yes, boss. "

Jeno is so kind, unlike the stereotypical celebrities that are rude and unrespectful.

He's cuter than average idols too, the voice in my head nags. No, I can't be thinking of him that way. My job is on the line and I shouldn't risk it for a certain pair of crescent eyes.

And then there's Jaemin. He might be overly flirty until he low key annoys me, but he is so smooth with his aegyo that it makes my heart do little flips.

I quickly shut off my thoughts when Mr Kang started Jeno's photos. It was nice, learning new styles of photography with Mr Kang, to capture the best features of a person isn't an easy feat, but the way Jeno poses just makes me want to take more, and more.

Next up was Jaemin. Under the beautiful night sky and the lighting shone on him made him look like a fairy, with wavy blonde hair shimmering as the lights hit.

" Isn't that Jeno's jacket? "

Jaemin is standing next to me for Chenle's shoot claiming that he wishes to look at his kids.

" Yeah. He lent it to me because I forgot to bring my own. "

" Oh, that explains why he's in the car. I thought he ran off purposely to play his games. That boy can play till 3 something in the morning and still say it's not enough. "

You chuckled at Jaemin's nagging towards his members, constantly complaining that they don't show him enough love.

" I cook for that boy, and he goes on and chooses Chenle for his favourite hyung. He even sleeps on my bed for the love of god. "

" Yah Jaemin hyung. Y/N doesn't want to listen to your rants this much, do you Y/N. "

" Jisung ah, you're just feeling guilty now because I cooked you ramyun at 4 a.m. in the morning. "

It was nice that I could just hear their voices arguing each other in open air, if this was shot in the city they would've been much more quite. It's nice to see them acting like themselves, no fans, no manager.

Mr Kang and I were constantly laughing at them. My tummy aches from the amount of laughter I've let out for the past hour.

" Don't mind them. They're always this idiotic. "

" Jeno? What are you doing here? You shouldn't be out in the cold without a jacket. "

Jeno bent down a little bit to look at you, eye to eye.

" You're a kettle calling a pot black, Y/N. "

" I'm different, I can afford to get sick, you can't. "

" Y/N ah, idols or not we're all human. You're more sensitive of the cold than I am, so you should wear it. "

Jisung taking off half his denim jacket didn't really faze me as my mind was still replaying one thing.

Did Chenle just accuse Jeno of flirting with me but he didn't deny it?

After wrapping up today's shoot, we stayed at a hotel nearby to shoot for Donghyuck and Renjun's solo shots and the full group photo in the morning before the sun shines.

We trudge to our rooms tiredly, yearning for a bath and a hot dinner. I got a room to myself as I was the only female in the group. The hotel is quite decent as many hikers stay here during the warmer seasons.

After I finished taking a bath and drying my hair, a knock was sounded from my door.

I tiptoed to take a peek at the peek hole of my door to see Jaemin standing outside, a smile adorned on his face as always.

I quickly got dressed and checked my hair in the mirror before opening the door. Wait why am I putting so much effort to look good?

Before I could dwell in my thoughts any further, Jaemin knocked again.

" Coming. "

A swing opened the door to see Jaemin holding a hand out like he was in a ball.

" I'm here to escort this beautiful lady to dinner. "

" Jaemin it's dinner, not the Cinderella ball. "

You shut the door behind you and walked on to the direction of the restaurant, ignoring his hand.

" Y/N ah, just make my dream come true. "

If he keeps in speaking in that cute voice, I'm going to bite both sides of my cheeks to keep myself from smiling.

" Come on Jaemin I'm hungry. "

I decided to do him some justice by pulling onto his elbow for a little while, a smile appearing on his lips. But once I let go, his pout reappeared.

Instead of trying to get me to hold his hand, he opted for putting his two hands on my shoulders, guiding me to the restaurant.

We were the only crowd there, along with a few holiday goers. I sat beside Jeno and in front of Jaemin, the only seat left , this is going to be torture for me.

The both of them through out dinner, kept putting food on my plate to the point where Jisung started complaining.

" Jaemin hyung, why aren't you giving me food tonight? "

" Jisung ah, you said you were old enough to take care of yourself and didn't need my babying anymore the other day. "

Jisung just pouts at Jaemin's retort and sulkily turned towards Chenle to nag about Jaemin.

Jaemin maybe flirty, but the glint in his eyes whenever he smiles is intoxicating.

After Mr Kang left for bed all of them started getting restless, Chenle was laughing loudly at a joke Jisung told him.

Jeno and Jaemin were drinking a pack of soju they bought from the hotel's convenience store, getting tipsier every sip.

They started telling me how they met and how they were made trainees on the same day and how they were best friends at school till now.

It was a peaceful atmosphere, Jeno being the lightweight already has his head on my shoulder as he listens intently to Jaemin's recap of their friendship and my opinions on it, smiling whenever we said something funny.

The calm atmosphere was however broken by Jisung when he suggested a game of truth of dare and Jaemin's loud approval.

Looks like the snowglobe just got shaken.

Anyone else here having played dragon quest 11? If so; what are your thoughts about it?

To share my own, warning: a rant incoming:

I personally am a huge fan of the dragon quest series. Started with DQ9 and got so hooked that I bought as many of the older games I could find to play through, got the remake of DQ7 - and was super excited when I heard that DQ11 was on its way (I admit: I was upset about hearing that the 3ds version was only available in Japan, but hey, didn't stop me).

When I first was asked for a review on it, I was amazed and still overly happy about finally having the time to play it after months of it laying around. I... I wasn't as deep in the story yet as I thought, and the further I played, the more I noticed some flaws that started to bother me more and more.

Now I took some time to see how other players and sites viewed it and took a look at their views - and I was a little disappointed to see that those things weren't mentioned. So I will bring them up now:

Again warning: The following will heavily focus on this aspect that I criticize. This is in no way intended to make the entire game bad, it has a lot of other features which add to the image as well. It may seem like I try to make the entire game look bad by focusing on this point, but that is not the intention. The intention lies within shedding light to this and wondering if anyone else has noticed it as well.

I was disappointed to see that the main female cast was weakly represented and that a lot of their lives and backstories revolve around men. Like yeah that can happen but it was 2017 at the release and I feel like we can give more representation than the stereotype, especially when that doesn't happen in just ONE of the female main characters, but in a lot of them (gladly, not all).

To the start of the game: Stereotypically we've got the main protagonists childhood friend who obviously seemed to have a crush on him, and later on was very focused on him. I really didn't mind that because it's just so known I just shrugged it off.

A little later we meet our first female team mates, the twins Veronica and Serena. Was I the only one who was a little weirded out that they introduced themselves (and apparently were raised with that view too) as their sole purpose being to serve and aid the hero? As the story progressed further, I honestly was pretty bothered by how their lives seemed to always have revolved around that and their future apparently only consisting of being the heros’ shield and aid. Gladly much later on in the game we found out about Veronica's life goals, it wasn't much to equal it, but I was glad to see.

It gets weird for me at Jade, the hero's "adopted sister" (Their kingdoms were super close and she explained multiple times how she felt and acts like his big sister). Her first introduction is overly focusing on s*xualizing her (who tf would give her such an outfit for a martial arts fighter anyways? This detailed boob cupping isn't protecting her chest at all), we didn't know then about that family thing. Even more bothers me everything at the Casino where she's been brainwashed by a monster into a flirty bunny girl with a heart choker and uses s*xual styled attacks, on our hero as well like flirting with him. Knowing that family lore made the fight super uncomfortable for me. There's more about what they could possibly be hinting on that happened to her, but I will not go into detail about this as it is highly triggering.

So here we've got our team... but you know what else bothered me? How some of the female villains were portrayed. The MOST disappointing by FAR was Crystalinda for me. Introduced as an incredibly powerful witch in the century of legends where even the strongest mage couldn't defeat her without help of the monsters, a woman who terrorized an entire kingdom and more with just a snap of her fingers - fcking strong and badass. You know what happened to her? They turned her into a moaning mess who lusted after the first guy that found her book. She was obsessed by thinking he's hot and wanting to be his bride, her talking was mostly accompanied by moaning. Reasoned because she was "so lonely and he was the first to talk to her again". Bro tf did you do to this badass woman?! Idc that you reason in her info box that she's a "hopeless romantic". You could have also just not added that, give us a strong villain tf who doesn't melt because one (1) man appeared.

Or the woman with the other world behind the fresco, I only know her German name now and I think I remember that it's different in English. Ruins of one of the most powerful kingdoms back then, she probably was the powerful ruler of it - and she is obsessed with being the grand villains bride. Uh-

I could also comment on the Mermaid Mishelle, whose entire point of existence was that she fell in love with a man and waited decades for him to come back; only to k*ll herself when she found out that he passed away a long while ago (I did cry though at that story, it was very emotional).

But to be fair: you've also got strong women who don't rely on that as their story. The woman who raised the hero (German name is Petra) and was loved by the whole village and was a strong woman with a strong mind, but of course was a very caring mom too.

Or the queen of the mermaids, her German name is Marina and I love it. She's strong, majestic, wise, and has her heart with her people. There do exist strong females in the more main character section, of course, but a majority is catering for men or being s*xualized in favor of them, and I think that the team could have done better on that.

Now, not all other games have done much better. In DQ5 an important plot is that one man demands to marry one of his daughters or your childhood friend in exchange for a much needed child. But I also remember characters of other games who had more personality than catering. And that's on that.

Story wise it's awesome. Being perceived as an evil by some instead of the hope as always? Hell yeah THAT is a change (my guess is that both, the term "luminary" and "dark spawn" are correct, depending on whose side you look at. Ofc the monsters would fear him and see him as evil, his point is to banish them and keep them away). Well... to Act 2 at least. I don't want to talk about Act 3, but that is a personal preference. Some may like doing everything again from an arc with some changes and a different starting situation... I absolutely hate that, because it gives me the feeling of having done everything before for nothing. And no- I don't wanna sacrifice deep friendships and understandings, redemption arcs and clearing past things up, helping some people out of misery, to get one person back, and lose everything of that in return because only I travel back to that point. And it gets way worse after that anyways.

The writing is... good. It had some of these things you see in "DON'T do that" writing advice blogs (eg awful sibling dialogue in showing how they're siblings) - but I think those flaws in some scenes only stood out to me because I dealt with these blogs just a bit before playing.

Some sites say it's "the best game of the franchise so far", do I agree with that? No. It's a moderate to good game, it has some very nice new mechanics (some which sadly don't have any practical use. Eg being able to walk freely in battles but it doesn't affect that ur getting hit no matter where you stand) and a new interesting story with good throwbacks to older, by now traditional, game settings - but the "new" here wasn't nearly impressing me as much as new things did in previous games. And there's also this flaw with having a problem in diverse and strong female main characters. This isn't to excuse the game mechanics of some of the previous games which sometimes also have a very shitty stereotype dominating (See DQ5) - but again: especially in 2017 (release of the game), where we've an uprising demand and change in better representation of women other than negative stereotypes and flat characters, I would expect a better development of the characters. At least that this problem doesn't take up a good majority.

And you know- amazing graphics (I have to give them that, that was fantastic) aren't the only requirement to be the best game of the series. In fact, graphics should play a minor role as a game can be capturing and fascinating without having the most realistic or detailed graphics. It's about the content in it. So yeah, it's an overall good game, but I wouldn't call it the best - and I really want to encourage a by far better representation on the next game. U can do better.

And yeah, it is a part of many to complete this game, but it sadly was a part that bothered me more the more I played it. Because when I first noticed that one character was bad representation, I took a closer look at the others to see if they do better, and unfortunately a lot didn’t. So please improve this next time, let us have deep female characters again who are strong and badass.

i’m replaying perfect match with a dude mc (the only way i could mix things up bc i love damien and can’t romance anyone else), and i keep surprising myself by having Feelings about how my male mc acts when i do and say all the same stuff i did with a lady mc

like early on there’s some lighthearted flirtation with damien and i was like, shocked at how different it seems to have a close, slightly flirtatious friendship between two dudes, compared to an m/f friendship. not being a dude i have no frame of reference for what it’s like in a m/m friendship, but i definitely have flirty dude friends - and since our pop culture is so explicitly No Homo, i’ve never seen a male friendship like that

my mc is also very supportive and emotionally open which is SO WEIRD to see from a dude bc pop culture men are just not like that. it’s all word-for-word the same dialogue my female mc said, but one dude saying to another after a rejection ‘they’re idiots, i think you’re great’ seems so overly sincere

later on you meet a socially anxious woman who, when she leaves the party, says she doesn’t know whether you two are supposed to shake hands or hug. when i played as a woman i smashed the hug button bc she was adorable, but playing as a boy made it seem gross and creepy

idk it’s just revealing a lot of stuff to me about how i think men should act, every chapter my guy does something typically Feminine coded and i get to rethink my shit and get a glimpse of a world where men are comfortable being sensitive and kind, it’s pretty great

   Hannahraised her perfectly plucked eyebrows, folding her arms over herchest as Shiro pulled his hand back. She seemed to relax at theaction, though Shiro's eyes were still on you, a silent question:“What's going on with Lance and Keith?”

   Youshook your head in reply, waving your hand to inform him that youwould tell him everything later.

   “OnlyShiro calls me Han,” Hannah said. She didn't miss the opportunityto run her fingers over Shiro's arm, which made Keith and Lance bothsplutter with laughter. “Anyway, there's not much to tell. Shiroand I have been friends for as long as we can remember, and he'salways been a big help in my life, you know? We met-”

   “Theyasked about you, Han,” Shiro cut in. “Not about our friendship.I'll tell them all about that later on.”

   Keithcovered his face at this point, nearly spitting up his onion ring ashe tried to bite back even more bubbling laughter. Lance was coveringhis mouth, silent tears of joy rolling down his cheek at thesituation.

   Youcould feel your own amusement bubbling to the surface, and youquickly took a drink of your water in an attempt to hide it.

   Thenight continued on like this – poor attempts at flirting, Shiro'sodd bursts of PDA which made Hannah's entire body tense up. She knewyou two were together – the second time you had the 'privilege' tomeet her, you and Shiro didn't hide the fact that you were a couple.

   Shewas just trying to win something now.

   Gettingback home, you, Lance and Keith were finally allowed to let loose thebubbles of laughter you had been trying to hide the entire night.

   Shirowent straight to bed as soon as he was in the door, pecking yourcheek goodnight before grumbling about how full he was until hisvoice became nothing but a dull pang againstthe thick walls of the ship.

  Assoon as the door closed, you ran your hands through your hair. Keithand Lance fell back against the sofa, howling in uncontrollablelaughter.

   “Didyou see whenever she dropped her napkin and tried to get Shiro topick it up for her?” Lance exclaimed, throwing his head backagainst the cushions he had just squashed. “Oh my God, how you kepta straight face out there, Y/N, I have no idea.”   You shookyour head. “I don't know how I did it, either. It was soembarrassing.”

   “Atleast you know he's loyal,” Keith commented, coming down from hishigh a lot quicker than Lance was. “You have nothing to worryabout. Seriously. We all saw how he was with you tonight.”

   Youarched a brow as you slid off your dress coat, revealing the plaingrey shirt you wore underneath. “How he was?”

   “Shiro,”Keith confirmed. “Don't pretend like you didn't notice. He was allover you tonight. It made our Han quite mad.”    “Oh, mybaby,” Lance squeaked through his laughter.

   Yourolled your eyes. Shiro had never been one for PDA, and the oddholding of your hand or the odd smile sent in your direction wasn'tenough for you to believe that that part of his personality hadchanged, though it certainly was different from what you were usedto. He usually barely even touched you in public – the odd smile,but nothing more. If he was leaving, he would peck your cheek andmaybe tug at your hand, but usually leaving the ship meant business.

   Youpondered on the thought for a while as you get to cleaning up thekitchen which Pidge, Hunk, Allura and Coran had left in a state.

   Youwere almost positive Shiro knew about Hannah's advances towards him.Perhaps he thought you cared – perhaps that was why he was goingthe extra mile to make sure you knew you were his one and only.

   Thatwas the thing, though – you knew. He proved it to you everyday, andhe didn't need to go out of his comfort zone to do it. The way hewoke you up every morning with a soft kiss to your temple, or the wayhe sometimes made you coffee and he apologised whenever he realisedhe had made it too strong, but you would drink it anyway because youtried hard, baby.

   Thatwas what proved to you that you two were in love. Not how he reactedto some girl who was trying too hard.

Being able to have the freedom and flexibility to do what she wants when she wants to do it.

She tries to find a distraction from it or a way to try and numb it.

She tends to like cute clothes that have a bit of an edge to them and enjoys mixing more girly pieces with either more sexy pieces or things she would put into the ‘badass’ category like leather jackets.

For someone she’s been romantically or sexually involved with, it would probably be Archer, since despite having a fallout after him wanting something than she did in terms of their relationship after they had sex back in February, despite everything, he still was there to support her and help her through things, even though they no longer have any romantic involvement at all.

For a friend, probably Rae, since I think PK was sorely in need of a female friend she could confide in and have girls’ nights with, especially after PK had a falling out with her childhood best friend, Anastasia. While Ana & PK have made up, Ana’s very busy with her pregnancy and finishing up school, and PK enjoys having someone like Rae she can just have fun with. She’s super excited that Rae has moved to New York and that she’ll me moving there herself soon!
