you really know your shit even though I may disagree here and there I really appreciate the research you’ve done! Also, “Dylan originally fantasized about constructing some kind of doomsday with their mutual friend, Zach” I have looked up and down Dylan’s journal, and I remember the everlasting contrast blog saying that so many times, I have no idea what she’s talking about, do you have any references or the exact quote?
Thank you, thank you, I try, I try ... you flatter me too much!! >.< I'm glad we found common ground while still holding our own beliefs, helps to individualize us! I 🤍 free-thinkers forever & ever.
Ahh, I feel a bit embarrassed by my words being quoted ... I indeed wrote that! Anyway, I'll admit that I made a little oopsie and misremembered that passage in Dylan's journal where he briefly mentions the idea of either committing or going NBK with his Halcyon Girl as him referring to Zach instead ... I am stupid! You can be mad at me, I don't blame you ... I admit I was full of it now instead of being stubborn over it. T.T
But! Because what I remembered was incorrect, like you, I started to wonder what The Everlasting Contrast was referencing in particular as well! So, we are now in this together, anonymous ... !!
Now, and I didn't even notice this until looking more closely, but that second post I linked from TEC starts with "I think," meaning it's not based on any actual "proof", but rather conclusions based on her own personal research surrounding DK & ZH's friendship. Which is ... I don't even know. Picture me grimacing at how disappointed I am in myself & my blunder.
Moving on, the accounts we have from Zach and his father fail to detail the exact bond they had prior to a week before the massacre. What we do know is that they started forming a bond together in Freshman year ( 1995, at the latest. ), and going off what Dylan implied in his writing, they both had a connection strung through vulnerability.
We can assume Zach and Dylan spent a LOT of time together before the former got a girlfriend. Dylan states that they were each other's firsts in a lot of different circumstances. Even after they started drifting apart, and when DK was in the middle of his plans for NBK with Eric, Zach implied they still had a routine of playing games together while on the phone starting around 10:30 until the middle of the night.
Without a doubt, before 1997, they confided in each other about mutual suicidal ideation from how Dylan was upset over the fact Zach could find a girl who could listen to him on such a personal level & he couldn't ( Or, because Zach could admit something so private to someone other than him ... either way, he still knew Zach's business. ).
Taking into account that they could talk openly to each other about wanting to bring harm to themselves, it wouldn't be much of a boundary to cross when mentioning the idea of inciting harm to others. I believe that's where TEC got the idea of, in a way, Dylan's first mental "drafts" / fantasies of what NBK would evolve into were rooted in, at least the concept of not doing something big like that alone. I do not think one bit that he actually wanted to sit down and take the time to pursue damnation with Zach, but I don't think the idea of him daydreaming about that concept was out of the question either.
The same applies to Halcyon Girl, although he was a bit ( <- /s ) more intense about his reveries relating to her than what we can potentially assume with ZH. Hence why I don't think the vague concept started with Halcyon Girl. Obviously, he ripped the concept from the movie NBK, but from how dead-set he had spoken on it, it's clear that it was something that had been brewing inside him longer than he let on. That's just my take though! Not any kind of solid statement ... none of this has been. Tears streaming down my face over the curse of infinite possibility.
Now, I think it's very important to keep in mind that it would be nearly impossible even if it were a frequent occurrence between ZH and DK to discuss homicidal thoughts, to find Zach admitting to that ... because it could've gotten him into some serious trouble at the time considering his friend did ... well, that. They were mentally ill teenage boys, I don't blame TEC for coming to the conclusion she did one bit, I honestly respect her thoughts because I do see where a lot of truth can be found in them because it's one of those things, due to how sensitive the subject matter is and our main confirmation being dead, we'll never get a true, final answer on.
Lastly, I want to focus on the wording of Dylan's statement here where he patently admits, even accepts ( ? ), the idea of following through with NBK by Eric's side.
First of all, it was so foul of him to say "gawd" in parathesis like that … 😭 I jest. Second, the fact he did that in general, followed up with "I hate this," shows this was not the way he idealized things to be. Whether it be with his life, Halcyon Girl, NBK, or as a whole … we don't know, but what we do is that it clearly wasn't with Eric in mind. But, that's the worst-case scenario. There was a clear dissatisfaction in his tone despite any possibility we can think of, and that doesn't automatically mean it was directed toward Eric. It's about the implication that this isn't what he wanted at the end of the day.
More so silly, but the way TEC parodied his statement here made me giggle. Normalize saying a quick GAWD over major inconveniences!
That's all I can think to write ... I'm sorry that I couldn't provide you with a direct source saying DK originally wanted to do some variant of NBK with ZH. I think it just comes down to teenage boy behavior, and believe me when I say I'm just as frustrated with myself over it ... at least we both came out of it with the answer that there is no answer. Not really a new occurrence on this side of Tumblr though, huh? ... This has all been kind of lame, but I still hope I didn't waste your time with this read. I, at least, wanted to make up for my mistake. >.<;;
While we're here, here are some more posts I found from TEC about ZH while digging for fruitless answers ( one, two, three, four ( <- This was such an insightful post in particular. ), five )! Whether she's a good source or not, her old posts are always a good read to get an overall picture of old, dead dynamics. Thank you for joining me on this adventure, anonymous ... I feel like I owe you $5 and you owe me a punch on the arm after all of that. T.T

izzie’s favorite movies and tv shows of 2020 (aka the worst year ever)
another year, another movie and tv show review. this year has, to put it simply, sucked. 2020 has been so terribly awful that sometimes the only light you can see are the absolute bangers of movies and tv shows that came out this year. with that being said, some of the movies and tv shows didn't come out in 2020. if the are mentioned in this post it is because they either: had a season come out this year, i found them this year, or they became popular this year.
SPOILERS: it may not come as a surprise but just in case you didn't realize, there will be many spoilers ahead, read at your own risk.
tw // death, suicide, drug use, mild adult language. if any of these things might trigger you, i strongly urge you not to read this post.
there is no specific order of these shows and movies, i'm just writing as they come to mind. if you enjoy any of these movies or tv shows, or if you have any suggestions for me, please let me know!
TV SHOWS
1) Santa Clarita Diet
Okay, so I know this show doesn't have anything to do with 2020. But, I found this show in 2020. I put it off for a while, thinking it wasn't my style of a show, but boy was I wrong. I loved this show. Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore) is a normal suburban wife and mom. She is a real estate agent with her husband Joel (Timothy Olyphant). She struggles with the fact that she isn't very adventurous. This all changes when she throws up an insane amount at a house showing. She then finds herself craving adventure, and craving human flesh. Yeah, she's a zombie. Not only is this show super hilarious, but it also shows the growth that they have with their characters and their family. I'm also team Abby (Liv Hewson) and Eric (Skyler Gisondo).
2) Outer Banks
So, I'm from NC. And, watching this show at first bothered me because I can very obviously tell this show isn't actually filmed in the obx, and the geography isn't exact, but once I got past that, I loved it. John B (Chase Stokes) is a teenager that lives in the poor side of the outer banks. He has a friend group called the Pogues which consists of JJ (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Kie (Madison Bailey). They absolutely hate the Kooks, which are the rich kids. A while after John B's dad gets lost at sea, presumed dead, the group finds some evidence that may solve the mystery, and make them rich. In the process, John B falls in love with a Kook names Sarah (Madelyn Cline) whose father Ward (Charles Esten) may have a little more to do with the mystery than he let on. Through friendship, murder, and secrets, the gang may just figure out what happened to John B's dad.
3) Love, Victor
Alright. I loved loved loved Love, Simon. I also really loved the book "Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda." So, when I heard about this show, I was so excited. Victor (Michael Cimino) is a teenage boy that moved to Creekwood with his family. He meets Felix (Anthony Turpel) who lives in his building. He also meets Mia (Rachel Hilson) and they begin dating. But, he also meets Benji (George Sear). While trying to get used to a new school, new friends, and a new relationship, Victor finds himself questioning his sexuality. With the help of Simon (Nick Robinson) and his friends, Victor finds it in himself to finally come out, and he admits his feelings, for Benji. This is such a good show, but I was so upset when season 1 ended on a cliff-hanger.
4) The Haunting of Bly Manor
The sequel to The Haunting of Hill House. Now listen, haunting of hill house was an absolute banger. When I saw that Bly came out I nearly died. I was so excited. But, I was alone in my apartment and also a lil bitch. So, I had to wait a week until I was home with my family to watch it. Now, I was so excited to be scared, and there were a few jump scares and ominous moments, but this season was more centered around the story line of Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti) and her new life in a foreign country. When seeing an ad for a live in job as an au pair. When she gets there, she meets the two young children she’ll be looking out for and the other workers of the house, including the gardener, Jamie (Amelia Eve). Throughout her stay at Bly she begins to notice weird behaviors from both children and by the end of the series she sacrifices herself for the children. Sadly, this story is being told by Jamie who Dani had fallen in love with during her stay at Bly. Now I was somewhat upset about the lack of horror, but was still very intrigued and drawn in by this series.
5) Julie and the Phantoms
Alright, at first I was not gonna watch this show. I thought it looked a little too young and childish for me, but everyone was talking about it on twitter so I had to. I. Love. This. Show. This show centers around Julie (Madison Reyes). Julie is a teenage girl who, sadly, lost her mother. The one major thing she shared with her mom, was their love for music. Since her mothers passing, she gave up music. This is until, dead musicians from the 90′s show up in her garage. Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner), and Reggie (Jeremy Shada) all tragically passed away in the 90′s after eating bad street hotdogs. When Julie finds their CD in her garage, she decides to play it and they come back in ghost form. But, only she can see them. With their help, she finds her confidence to play music again. Also, she has to find away for them to stay because they’re slowly disappearing.
6) Derry Girls
Bitch. I love this show. And yeah it didn’t come out in 2020. Shut up. I found this show recently after watching the cast on the holiday special of the Great British Baking Show. I loved the actors so I had to watch the show. This show focuses on Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) a 16 year old girl that lives in Derry, Northern Ireland in the 90′s. Alongside her is her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), her two friends Clare (Nicola Coughlan) and Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), and Michelle’s English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn). During these years, a lot of people in Ireland struggled, especially because it was during wartime. Even thought this show isn’t focused heavily around the war, it’s amazing to see these teens live a fulfilling life while struggling with the state of their country, and the lack of money that their families have.
7) Elite
HA. This show did have a season in 2020 so leave me alone. But bro, I love this show. At first, I didn’t watch it because I thought I could only watch the dubbed version in English, which I hate. I hate dubbed shows they look so weird. But, once I found out I could watch this show in Spanish, I fell in love. But, sadly, theres too damn much to talk about in one little post. It’s crazy. But basically it just follows the lives of teens in high school that are trying to survive. And no, not in the “I’m surviving high school,” sense. No, people be getting murdered.
MOVIES (tbh i didn’t find a lot of movies good this year lmk which movies u liked this year and maybe i’ll like them!)
1) All the Bright Places
After the death of her sister, Violet (Elle Fanning) is devastated. She closes herself off, and has her parents get her out of doing school work that involves working with others. But, as time goes on, they realize she may need to start to move on. Violet then meets Finch (Justice Smith) who is enamored by Violet. He suggests they do a project together. While finding and visiting some of the smallest wonders of their state, they begin to fall for each other. While you are focusing on Violet and her mental health, you tend to miss some of the signs that Finch’s mental health isn’t great either, but by the time you do, it could be too late.
2) Dangerous Lies
Hmm. This was weird for me. I had only ever seen Camila Mendes in Riverdale, and honestly, not a fan. So, Katie (Camila Mendes) and her husband Adam (Jessie T. Usher) are struggling with money. Katie decides to take a job working for an elderly man, and eventually gets her husband hired there as well. Unfortunately, he dies, but for some odd reason, leaves the house and all of his fortune, to Katie. As they get comfortable in the house, they begin to uncover some very weird and dangerous lies.
3) The Devil All the Time
Ok. Iconic. You got so many hot men in this movie. Bill Skarsgård, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson. C’mon now. That’s crazy. But, this story is so long and in depth that I wouldn’t even know where to begin. This movie is a bit disturbing. It involves murder, sexual assault, killing of animals, and so much more so if that’s an issue for you please do not watch this movie. It was also quite long, but it was still good.
4) After We Collided
Okay just listen. I was that teenager. I read wattpad stories and was, embarrassingly, addicted to After. This was not a great movie per say, but it was After. This is a sequel to the movie After. This movie centers around Tessa (Josephine Langford) and her recovery after her breakup with Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin). Theres sex, alcohol, bad acting. The whole nine-yards. But c’mon, they’re so cute together.
5) To All the Boys p.s. I Still Love You
Okay it was a good movie. I enjoyed it. This movie focuses on Lara Jean (Lana Condor) and her boyfriend Peter (Noah Centineo) and their relationship post the first movie. But of course relationships aren’t super steady, and John Ambrose McClaren (Jordan Fisher) shows up. Yeah, John Ambrose, from her letter. They become closer and Lara Jean has to decide who she wants to be with. Spoiler, it’s Peter. BOOOOOOO justice for John Ambrose McClaren, he deserved better.

ONCE WERE BROTHERS: ROBBIE ROBERTSON AND THE BAND
Featuring Robbie Robertson, Ronnie Hawkins, Dominique Robertson, Jonathan Taplin, John Simon, Elliott Landy, David Geffen, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Martin Scorsese, Van Morrison, Peter Gabriel, Taj Mahal, Jann Wenner, George Semkiw, Grant Smith, John Hammond, Jimmy Vivino, Bill Scheele, John Scheele, Larry Campbell and archival footage of Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson, George Harrison and Bob Dylan.
Directed by Daniel Roher.
Distributed by Magnolia Pictures. 102 minutes. Rated R.
“Once Were Brothers” – the Robbie Robertson song about his time with the legendary 60s folk-rock collective The Band – is both a sweet and bittersweet look at the days gone by. It has love, but it has no permanence, no nostalgia. These were brothers who fractured, wounds that never totally healed, a bond which was allowed to fray.
The documentary that shares its title holds a similar perspective.
As lead guitarist and main songwriter for the Band – and one of the members of the group who called for the split, though he insists now he expected it to be temporary, but they never quite returned to the fold – Robbie Robertson has gotten a lot of the blowback for the group’s demise. Particularly from his best friend and former singer Levon Helm, who grew rather bitter about Robertson’s growth of prominence in the band.
Robertson was also one of the few band members who was not an addict at one point or another.
It’s not a mistake that this documentary is subtitled Robbie Robertson and The Band, because this is about Robertson’s early years and his specific time with the group – which did reform for almost 20 years in the 1980s and 1990s without him. Once Were Brothers never discusses this post-Last Waltz incarnation of The Band, nor does it take on Robertson’s decades of solo work.
Instead it follows the story from Robertson’s childhood in Toronto, the early days when The Band came together as the musicians for semi-popular roots-rock act Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks, the time spent backing Bob Dylan on tour and the short-lived (less than 10 years) glory days of the group.
It does not take into consideration the fact that while The Band was a very well-respected group, they were not necessarily the biggest stars in the world. They only had two top 40 hit singles – three, if you count a Joan Baez cover version of one of their songs. Most casual music fans would be hard pressed to name more than four or five of their tunes, if that.
In fact, at this point in history they are probably better remembered for being Bob Dylan’s backing band in the infamous “gone electric” tour and for the documentary about their 1976 star-studded farewell concert, The Last Waltz.
The Band’s musical divorce turned ugly, and Robertson tries to keep this documentary – which is based on his 2016 autobiography Testimony – relatively upbeat, trying not to pick at the scars.
Sadly, those scars are still deep. Garth Hudson, the only other living member of the Band’s classic lineup, does not give any new interviews for the film, though the shy, soft-spoken Hudson was often an ally to Robertson in group struggles back in the day. The other three members have passed on, and obviously can only be heard from in long-ago archival discussions. Only Helm is shown talking extensively, Richard Manuel and Rick Danko (and Hudson) only have a few short old passages each.
Therefore, there is little or no pushback on Robertson’s stories – his version of the truth is the only one getting aired here. Which is not necessarily saying that Robertson’s beliefs about what created and destroyed The Band are incorrect; it is just pointing out that it is the perspective of one person out of a group of five. The others may have had differing viewpoints – specifically Helm, who told a very different version of The Band’s history in his own autobiography This Wheel’s on Fire.
Still, Robertson is a smart and engaging host, and there is lots of fine performance footage for a band which is not necessarily overly well covered. Once Were Brothers may have a limited audience, but it is nice that this band of brothers is being remembered and celebrated.

misc PATD stuff from summer 2008
here’s a tag for misc pictures from this summer (that tag includes August in Asia & Australia too btw).
usually Panic at the Disco was in Europe during the spring or fall when it was raining, so they said several times that they were loving their summer there.
Eric Ronick felt like a regular member of the band this year. Sometimes the other guys would even say “the five of us” when they were talking about the other band members who weren’t there during an interview.
Black Gold was in PATD’s top 8 on myspace.
Panic performed Gin & Juice with Snoop Dogg again in Germany. There were articles afterwards that the two would be teaming up to record something together in the future.
One of my favorite parts of this year was Ryan’s new accent. He was obviously attempting to sound like a 60s British rocker but I don’t even know what was happening there haha... I loved it so much (especially when it was combined with his haircut in early spring). I loved his commitment to his new image and how the accent would come & go randomly.
PATD was still getting attention for being the “first band to make it solely through the internet” and the Fall Out Boy comparisons were still being made. I wondered if it was ever a tricky spot for Ryan to be friends with Pete while trying to break PATD away from the constant association with that scene. Sometimes Jon & Ryan would say things about Fall Out Boy’s music that wasn’t very flattering.
Someone stole Jon’s phone in Amsterdam and then called Zack and threatened him. Jon seemed like he was contemplating living without a cell phone, but then he bought a new one.
a lot of French fans complained on their blogs & journals that Panic at the Disco was dull & lacked charisma. It sounded like some people thought that Pretty. Odd. was better suited to a small venue than a big festival stage. Many of the complaints were just about how Ryan was too deadpan or boring, and Jon’s rambling was annoying. (Excuse me but Jon’s rambling could be entertaining too lol).
I thought Ryan was actually mentioning Bob Dylan more than the Beatles this year, but people weren’t throwing a fit about that one. Whatever.
The poor fans in Brazil had been screaming “come to Brazil!!!” for years at this point and put so much effort into their videos, petitions, official ticketmaster vote, etc. The pre-split band never went there, though.
Spencer intentionally made his support for LGBTQ rights visible in several different interviews this year and made it clear that Brendon would have his unconditional support if he happened to be gay. Brendon had made occasional announcements onstage that he liked guys too and had said a few things in interviews. It seemed like most of us just knew he wasn’t straight by this summer. It wasn’t a big deal.
Sometimes Jon still seemed like he viewed Brendon as a liability to the band’s new mature image who needed to be monitored, kept in line, or simply tolerated. They had made a great interview team during the last half of the Fever era when they were close friends and could goof around. Sometimes that lightheartedness came back... but it was no longer the norm. They still got along fine! The vibe was just different.
FBR was doing some back-to-school promos in August. They shared Brendon’s sophomore school picture for one and then did some superlative stuff where Ryan won best dressed (that was legit the only one I cared about ha. I think Spencer was in something else that wasn’t fashion-related though).
There were myspace groups for Team Keltie, Team Haley, and Team Cassie.
Some fans were shipping Shyden since they couldn’t let go of Ryden but weren’t getting too much to work with from Brendon & Ryan now (aside from the same old routines at each show).
Brendon & Shane were at the grand opening of the Wasted Space nightclub in Vegas on July 19th.
Jon said that everyone went home for a short time after the European tour. He talked about doing a lot of stuff with Cassie & her family, going camping, going to watch his brother’s band, etc. Jon said that Brendon & Spencer were in Las Vegas but Ryan was spending his time off in California. Ryan spent his time off in September with Alex Greenwald & that whole crew, so maybe that’s where he was this summer too.
the bassist for the Jonas Brothers blogged some passive-aggressive faux-compliment to PATD about how they did a great job ripping off the Beatles.
here’s where the Nearly Witches demo came from (that mixtape was available for free on Fall Out Boy’s FOE page in late August).
August 2008 was Jon’s first trip to Japan. We used to think that there was a chance that he’d gone along with TAI and P!ATD in April 2006, but he confirmed that he hadn’t been there. It sounded like the other guys had been telling Jon how great the clothing stores were in Japan (because Spencer, Brendon, and Ryan had definitely returned from Japan with some frilly shirts in spring 2006 haha).
The guys were still making Spinal Tap references in 2008. Ryan did an interview with todayonline.com from Southampton this summer where he mentioned that “at least once a day we say, ‘This feels like Spinal Tap.’ We watch that movie at least once a week. But a lot of people in bands don’t find the movie funny because it’s all true. Usually we have quite a bit of trouble finding the stage.”
HIPSTERS DO NOT CAMPAIGN lol
So Adam posted a myspace bulletin on July 2nd that said:
“Panic at the Disco’s latest album Pretty Odd was nominated by NPR’s All Things Considered for Best CD of the Year (So Far) and they need your vote to help take the lead! Click the banner below to cast your vote for PATD and see how well they’re doing in the results. Voting ends July 6th at midnight and the winner will be announced the following day – thanks a lot!”
Apparently this was not a *thing* that NPR’s crowd did haha. NPR posted an article that said:
“For me these polls are about discovering what others love and what I've never heard. For some, however, it's about winning… Panic at the Disco put out a good record this year, and for a while they were in the lower end of the top 20. But less than a week before the polls closed, a banner went up on their MySpace page encouraging fans to vote. The website said, ‘they need your vote to help take the lead!’ Within a few days, Panic at the Disco had almost 6,000 more votes than anyone else. I'm wondering how you feel about this type of campaign… We want our poll to be credible.”
So Panic’s fanbase was still strong enough to have some power in areas like NPR, but we really didn’t stand much of a chance in other areas where mobilizing your fanbase & campaigning for votes was the norm...
VMA Nominations
Voting for the VMAs was different/weird this year. Panic at the Disco was a “potential nominee” for both of their Pretty. Odd. videos (Nine in the Afternoon and That Green Gentleman). That meant they were in the running to be nominated for Best Rock Video (TGG), Best Pop Video (NITA), and Video of the Year (TGG + NITA). However, they didn’t make the cut for most because the actual nominations were determined by fan votes this year. (I put more about the VMAs in the post about September btw). This was on the band’s myspace during the voting for That Green Gentleman:

Episode 1 - I have no idea what I'm doing. - Eric
Everyone’s pretty active. Certain people know each other and I’m pretty much a newborn deer in the ORG community. Chrissa says “I’ve added pretty much everyone” as a contact but didn’t add me. So then I added a few people and no response or people added me back. Like my god I could go home for being a newbie. No hun.
I have no idea what I'm doing. It's honestly been so long I'm just trying to talk to everybody and get to know them. I don't remember when the time to start alliances are and other things and it's a whole mess but we are working with it!!
Russell deserves all the wins
So I think Austin and I may have started an alliance. He seems pretty nice and I believe that he wants to be loyal especially since it's only be 2 hours since the game started. I'm hoping tomorrow us two can find some other people to make a larger alliance. I get good vibes from Heather and Chips specifically. Chips I knew before I left the community a while back, and I know he has a lot of passion for ORGs which I think is very valuable in an ally. I also really like Heather because we are very similar people. We are both starting college, both just returned to ORGs. It just kind of felt meant to be. Obviously I have to listen to who Austin likes too. I think when I played orgs in the past, my errors were both not making the alliances soon enough, and also trying to control them. If I want to win, I have to play differently.
Im BACK. Imma make this quick. Welcome to Cast First Night Impression Vibes Coco~ Havent Spoken to him too much yet since it was 4AM when things came out for him. Seems sweet. Says he played on tengaged and zwooper. Stephen~ We played in the past. I think 2 games, one where I was completely against him and one where I tried to be on his side then everyone voted him out early. I think both were atomic games. He messaged me right away since he knew I took a long boi break which was nice. Gotta talk to him a bit more. Austin~ Seems pretty chill, we had convo about horror stuff and atm talking about Winners at War (I'm not gonna spoil anything. Don't yall worry) I can definitely see potentially working with him. Livingston~ Talked for a little bit. Shared a little bit of theatre stuff with each other since he does a lot of tech for his school where as I do onstage and offstage things. There is potential. Dylan~ We talked a bit. Im vibing. I hope he is too. talked more music tastes and all. POTENTIAL Eric~ Eric and I are one. We were talking and realized we are the same person and are the voices in each others head. I definitely want to work with him the most out of anyone so far. Splat/Evan~ Pretty chill tried talking to him. I feel a connection but like not like the biggest. I think things could definitely look up in the future tho Chips~ CHIIIIIIIPS. I love Chips. I didn't talk to him as much as I should have my previous game with him like 2 YEARS AGO. We talked a lot today and I think this game I can possibly work with him. Glo~ We played a big brother org together toward the beginning of my break, which was a rough time in my life and why I stick to survivor games. She messaged me and I messaged back, but I have yet to get another message from her yet. We will see in the morning. FOR IDOL SEARCHES: I checked an I am gonna write down the paths I take. I got a deadend this time.
GLO GLO is spilling the tea . I have only done live chat with DYLAN so far but OMG we connected and he reminded me of two players I loved and do to this day one for over 10 year the other for 5 years who are close to me to this day. Me and Dylan connected talked about life game laughed shared stories and somehow FINAL 2 has evolved and I am super happy about this.
Ok this is the most social I’ve ever been at the start of a game I called Gloria since we’re both I Love Money alumni & we hella bonded ??????? She’s so sweet 🥰🥺🥰🥺 we literally talked for two full hours on cast reveal day, wow. I would love to work with her far into this game, maybe even to the end 🤭 if we could do that Stephen is cool, I’d like to work with him. He’s loyal & smart & good at challenges so ✌🏻 Eric & I had a very interesting dynamic in middle earth, but I think we were able to smooth over that together Evan also seems really cool, I just met him but we’ve already switched friend codes so it’s getting pretty serious also glo was like ‘You better not betray me for a man you have a crush on’ and I was like uhhh I’m emotionally unavailable don’t worry glo you’re safe
I feel less stressed atm. Chatted to a couple people. Nothing major, no alliances made (or if add production to it). I hope I can continue manoeuvre my way to find a footing in this alliance otherwise I’ll be the first boot and be annoyed at myself. Just worried about past connections and my no connections.
Heyyy, first confessional of the season!! So the tribe seems pretty chill, no one i hate, a few i know. Dylan and Heather might be an issue if they hold grudges? But i doubt it. What I’m really looking for healre is a solid group of 4, I could see chips and heather being a part of that as they arent goats, but who knows. The idea is to group with people who will play and take the heat off me, instead of goats who might gang up on me at end game
Personally coming into this game as a new player, one of my biggest concerns were past relationships. So I talked with my secret alliance member Choo about who he has played with in the past, and he mentions Austin. After doing that, I ask Austin who he has played with in the past, and he tells me that he has never played with anyone before. Immediately I knew he was bullsh*tting. However, I really need to keep my mouth shut that Austin lied about this to me, but when the time comes, I'll be sure to expose his ass.
My strategy in this game is to create as many options for me to take as possible to get to the end. The way I'm doing that is by playing the "clueless 16 year old" card so that people see me as naive, when in reality, I'm probably just as ready to backstab, lie, cheat, steal just as much as any of these people are, if not more. So far it seems to be working and I sense that a lot of people feel as though they can trust me. But I will take the option that best suits me.
Immediately I was able to create a secret alliance with Coco, due to a mutual friend, being Evanw919. Evan is one of my best friends irl and was actually the person that introduced me to this game. After talking to Coco a lot, I feel as though he is someone I can trust, and I do intend to go as far as I can with him... unless it's in my best interest to take him out if necessary. I may intend on trusting him, but I don't intend to let friendships impact my decision making.

First day went great I feel ! Everyone is super nice so far and I hope we can win a few challenges together. COCO IS HERE! I love coco and hope we can go far together already . I have trusted him before and it turned out really good for me. Glo is a sweetheart and gotta love her. Livingston is nice and so is chips tho I feel they may need to go down the road. Stephen and me have talked a lil in the community so I feel I can maybe trust him . I'm excited and nervous to be playing again but ready to go !
youtube
I like this cast and like the people on my tribe i hope they are not too annoyed hearing about my internet but they have to know what they might be dealing with obviously it only happens at certain times depending how many people are on the internet with rogers, so if i get voted out cause of it i won't be mad, but also i am hoping for a lockdown end sooner than later so we can switch providers. as John Coffey said it's a very bad time to be having these internet problems.
Okay! The season is officially on! Not much to report about yet but I want to make a confessional right now just in case I forget to do it later. Gotta avoid those strikes! So far all I know about my tribe is that John Coffey and I briefly played together in a previous game, though we weren’t ever on the same tribe, and Chrissa and I played together at some point though I can’t remember anything about when we did. I’m looking forward to the challenge and I hope we can crush it!
I have managed to talk to everyone on my tribe and I definitely feel good vibes from most apart from maybe Livingston who doesn't really seem interested in talking to me. What is interesting that Evan asked me if I had known anyone from previous game(s) and I told him I knew Austin and Livingston BUT Austin told him that he knew NONE. So now Evan doesn't trust him but trusts me. I really like Evan,Eric, Heather, Austin and also Glo and Dylan. I'd like to work with them but mostly with Evan, Eric, Heather and Austin.
Right now what I'm trying to do is to get these people caught in a lie, but I intend to save the lie to expose them when the time is right. People say one of the worst mistakes you can make in survivor is playing too hard too fast. However, playing hard quickly can be gotten away with if you are sneaky about it and don't get caught. I'm trying to get these people to think I'm incompetent as they aren't even aware they are being manipulated
2ND Confessional OK so far my 2 favorites I have talked to are Dylan and if the truth is being told we are in 2 man alliance. @nd I have messaged with most is CoCo real name David. He said he is knew to orgs and is afraid of alliances happening which probably is true. Dylan and I both like CoCo so we are bring him in as our 3rd hopeful in a possible alliance. CoCo actually said he wanted to work with me so hopefully I have him and Dylan watching my back as I will them if they stay loyal but if they run their mouth goodbye quick if needed. So far I am happy with these two and have no idea what other two I hope to round up. Both Dylan and I agree about getting CoCo with us and hope it don't backfire with a new player to orgs.
I’ve chatted to Kevin and acted like I’m paranoid (I am a wee bit but I’m definitely adding spice) and he’s like “If I hear your name I’ll let you know” which is what I’m looking for. If I can play a ditzy “I’m just happy to be here!” act I think it’ll make the more strategic players come to me and make them act like I’m a pawn in their chess game. (I have good episode title material Yass). Also I’m gay.
I love music video challenges, but everyone seems to not like them so I am a bit nervous. I got closer to Coco and I love him!! I definitely wanna work with him and he said he feels comfortable with me Austin and Eric, which same so I right now feel good but its only been a day. I hope we get a good score, although we already know one person who would prefer to not be in it oof.
The idol hunt, love the idea. Me and Darcy are working together and telling each other where we went. My first way was a flop, not helpful. Darcy’s first route was T2, R, L, R, R and went out and my first route was shorter. I think if we keep going this way we’ll get to the idol soon. I told Darcy to go T2, R, L, R, L, L as I think that will bring us closer.
They voted Call Me Maybe. I want to die but I want to win more so HEY I JUST MET YOU
Have I confessed too much in the past few hours? Nah. So Coco and I are planning to work together and we seem to be on the same wavelength and he seems to trust me. He shared about his idol hunt and I think we are gonna try and map out together different tunnels. I mentioned how I dont think anyone would have the idol yet, but I could be wrong. We also talked about hoping to get Austin and Eric in to potentially work together, which I am down for as long as we can get the numbers. I do think I have to feel out more before I do anything drastic as we LITERALLY HAVENT DONE A CHALLENGE YET. Any who, I think I am having a decent social game at the moment, but you know thats just my point of view. I hope no one hates me yet (thats for later). I wanna do a tribe call but Im lowkey nervous that chaos will ensue or it will be too quiet for some reason. I mainly want it to form more bonds with people, and possibly play a jackbox game of fibbage to see who the best liar is (it is a science).
Looking at my options for a four-man super-team power-rangers/voltron alliance, my instinct is to team up with Chips, Heather, and Dylan. While one benefit is I have some prior experience with each of these guys, the main reason is that each of these have made a consistent effort to talk to me and we have some form of rapport. Glo has also tried to talk to me but like, I know nothing about her? Its been hard to have a clear conversation. The others are fine, we’ll see how we go.
should i aim for chips-heather-dylan for a 4 alliance? or chips-heather-eric?? i know its early but this kind of alliance should be i think, at the same time though being pushy can lead to being seen as a threat... maybe i should wait to see if we loose immunity
The tea is that today Evan told me he had formed a secret alliance called "Florida" w Heather. I am okay w it because I trust both of them! We made an agreement that Evan would check tunnel 1, I would do 2 and Heather would check 3 for the idol. I hope I managed to put myself in a decent position. That's all for now I guess.
So last night we decided to pick Call Me Maybe as our song for the Lip Sync challenge which is iconic and the pretty people tribe will win!! Today was a little bit more lowkey. I spent a majority of the day finishing off my persuasive speech assignment. Towards the afternoon though, Heather talked to me about how we could work together in the game and I was REALLY glad for that. I was intending on talking to her anyway about starting an alliance with her. Earlier, Austin and I confirmed our strategical bond by making an alliance and talking about who we would want to join us. I said Heather and Austin said Coco. I really like both so I'm glad. Heather told me that she was told about the 4, so it's nice to see that everyone's on the same page. Hopefully we win the challenge, but at the moment I feel good about the group that's beginning to form.
My one fear in this challenge (aside from public humiliation) is that I think our songs a little basic and too over done? We’ll find out how the judges feel I guess
youtube
I don’t have much new to report other than Mac saying he wants to work with me in the game. So I’ve got that going. John’s a fantastic guy and I’d love to get something going with him too. That’s a far cry from a majority in this game but it’s a start. I’m hoping we can pull through and win this challenge so we don’t have to worry at all about going to tribal first. I’m not confident enough in my position in the game right now that I’d be able to survive a tribal.
Soooooo a alliance finally started with me eric , evan, heather, and coco which I'm 100% down for with the time being . I really like everyone tho so I hope we win this first challenge . Even tho I really hate music videos . I'm awkward and never know what to do . Hopefully my tribe can carry me by with this one .
Eric tells me about this 5 person alliance plan, with himself, Austin, Heather, Coco, and myself. What I tell him, is that I am completely comfortable going with his plan and that I feel blessed to be a part of the group. However, what Eric doesn't know, is that I was the one who initially created this plan. There's a core secret 3 person alliance here with Coco, Heather and myself, along with two semi-trustworthy guys in Eric and Austin. The best part about this, is that Eric and Austin have no idea that they are on the bottom of the alliance. In fact, they think they were the ones to instigate it.
So tis' 10:53 PM on a april 12th night and the alliance between myself, Heather, coco, austin and evan is official. Coco really wanted evan involved and honestly evan is really cool and kind of a mini-me so I'm fine with him being involved. Austin and Heather also like evan so everything's good. I hope we win the challenge because I like the whole tribe but the others haven't talked with me quite as much. Glo is nice but when she dms she, she explains herself like Im silently disproving of her which is weird because she can do whatever she wants idc she's a queen. Chips is nice and we talked the most out the other 4, but sometimes I don't understand what he's saying. I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily, but I just feel more comfortable around the other 4. Stephen and Dylan are nice as well and I think they are cool, but we just haven't really got to talk that much. I really hope we win the challenge because I don't want to vote anyone out but we will see.
Wow ok Im in an alliance. Me like that. I named us the prettier people because we call our tribe the pretty people tribe. I really like the people in it as it includes Austin, Eric, Evan and Coco. Evan wants to make Coco Evan and I the core 3 in the group, however, I feel closest to Coco and Eric as of right now. Lets hope we need to talk game more LATER since I want to win the challenge rather than vote someone off. Im hoping I can somehow get alliances with the Eric Austin side, making us a core 3, and the Coco Evan side making us a core 3.
Oop Stephen is trying to form a tight 3 person alliance, today is the rise of the game play
So i decided on forming an alliance of three instead, smaller but a bit less intimidating, and I let Heather choose the third for diplomacy, she chose austin who wouldnt be my first choice but still good. Hopefully this is a good first step.
Alliance 1: The Prettier People: Me, Coco, Austin, Eric, Evan Alliance 2: The Chatty Trio: Me, Austin, Stephen (Stephen mentioned sides with Livingston and Chips as well so Id say they are affiliations) Alliance 3: Unnamed as of right now and yet to form a chat: Me, Coco, Evan I guess Austin sees us working well together so Id say that's definitely a plus so woo This happened very quickly. It has been quite an Easter in Canada
Sunshine and myself had a nice long Skype call last night getting to know each other! Darcy was there for much of it as well but it was mainly Sunshine talking. It feels really good to build a bond early on and I’m hoping we can keep that up and work together in this game. Right now Jessie seems to be the least active person on the tribe. She doesn’t really speak much in tribe chat and I’ve only had a brief conversation with her in PMs.
WE WON! Call me maybe more like Call us the winners BABY WOOOOOOOOO
Hey so I just got off an almost hour long call with Glo... and she is terrifying!!! Seriously if it wasn’t for the fact I’m 80% sure I couldn’t do it I’d want her out first. HOWEVER We Won!!!!! party party. While early tribals can be good I feel like I’m doing well enough in the bonding not to need it.
WE WON WOOOO. I was so worried!! We can all live in peace for a day Bless Up
Russell deserves to win
Well we lost the first immunity challenge which is a huge hit to morale. My only goal for the next 24 hours is to just convince people to not write my name down. I don’t feel like I’ve bonded as much as I should have with some people but I think I can keep my name off the block. I’ve already spoken with Mac, Darcy and Kevin and they’ve all agreed to work with me. So that’s 4 of the 5 majority there. I had a long call with Sunshine last night so I think I can get him on my side as well. I should be okay. But things can change so quickly in this game. As for who I’d like to vote out. Jessie has been the least active in tribe chat. But Dan is who I’ve spoken with the least out of everyone. Kevin being on exile island makes this vote both easier and more difficult. There can’t be a rock draw. Someone is getting straight up voted out.
I asked the chat if anyone had animal crossing & Evan was like ‘chip does’ literally WHAT how close are y’all ?? Evan said this was his first ever ORG. Also he straight up asked me who I knew already & who was trustworthy. Like HUH. We played smash bro’s together tho after that so I think we’re chill Anyways, I like everyone on the tribe. Glo wants to form a threesome w us & Coco which I am down for. Heather & Eric both scare me 😟 I always get so paranoid at the start of orgs I’m So glad we won that challenge bc I would be so scared of going home 🥺🥺
in alliance with Dylan who stole that video and challenge we won. My power went out and neighborhood destroyed with storm all I could do was in house by window scene and was worried I wouldn't get anything submitted but I did get something in thank goodness but I sucked. I have talked to Stephen and have talked to Chips and like both of them. I like Coco also but time difference is killing us trying to chat live but we will make it happen. I am proud of Dylan in that video so much. I want to talk live with Austin cause I have a feeling I will like him but time will tell. Glad did not have to vote anyone out and i was scared it might have been me. We only won by a point so that was close call for sure. I still try to message and reach people but getting some to talk live is hell. Only one I talk game with is Dylan and nothing heavy yet. lol
At the immunity challenge today, I believe I did a very good job staying in the middle in terms of how much work got done. I didn't do all the work, but I did enough so that I wouldn't get targeted for doing nothing
There's no denying that online survivor attempts to be fairly similar to how survivor is on T.V. However, there are still some very key differences between the two. One very important distinction is how much easier it is to get away with lying. This is because for one, they can't read your face, and two, the person lying has time to think about what they want to say before they say it. These two factors can make it much easier to lie compared to real life. Right now I'm lying to almost everyone except for Coco, who I feel would likely be a goat who I can take to the end. Don't get me wrong, I am ready to play this game very hard and do what it takes to win, regardless of if my tribe mates see that or not.
Gloria is lowkey weirding me out a little bit. Why does this old lady want to video chat with a 16 year old boy that she's never had a SINGLE conversation with? Why is she consistent continuing to ask about it? These are questions I do have, but in the game of survivor, sometimes you can't always know the answer. If I did ask, I could potentially find myself in hot water and cause bad vibes from her, so as of now I just need to keep declining her requests to video chat until I send her old ass home.
So coming into this game, I see Kevin and Darcy on my tribe, and I have a relatively okay history with them. However, Kevin is the only one that is really talking to me right now other than Sunshine. Sunshine is sooo TALKATIVE AND ANNOYING!!!!! OMFG HE WONT SHUT UP! However he is good in challenges, so he needs to stick around. honestly I have had no game talk with anyone as of yet, so I dont have much to write about.
youtube
Hey sis, not much has happened which is worrying. Me and Darcy haven’t found the idol which is annoying. I talked to a couple people about the vote and some hadn’t made their mind and I said Chrissa or Jessie as the vote. The lack of people talking is scary tbqh.
youtube
I hate losing cause judges are blind they are wrong anyway on a personal note if i am still in the game at this point my internet should be running better cause my mom finally gave in and called bell to switch. But i am gonna be real no one has messaged me so idk how safe i feel.
Me being able to get Chrissa out first vote. WOW COME ON NEWBIE! Snakes, they like to stay hidden. Blend in. If a person sees a snake slithering around hissing all the time, people will react negatively to the snake. But if the snake has been blending into it’s surroundings, the person wont realise. I don’t know if I’d call myself a villain or anti-hero. The reason why I want Chrissa out is because she has a bad social game and I want to keep around people who I’ve bonded with. (I swear I’m kind in real life!)
It’s certainly looking like the vote is going to be Chrissa tonight. I’m a little sad at that since she’s a genuinely wonderful person. Something about this game is just making me super depressed. Everyone’s been so nice and friendly. Everyone has put effort into the game. But Chrissa’s name was the first one thrown out and it’s just sticking. I can’t even think of another name to throw out instead. This game is going to be rough to play I think. Usually I’m not so invested in my other tribe mates but I would truly like for all of us to win this game.

Q&A: Eric Vanlerberghe on I Prevail’s Evolving Sound, ‘Trauma’ And Telling Doubters What He Really Thinks
All photos by Julius Aguilar
Vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe isn’t afraid to speak his mind, especially when it comes to those who doubt the success and vision of his battle-tested metalcore outfit I Prevail.
Take the band’s head-jarring, aptly titled track “Deadweight,” for example. “Keep it up motherfucker, I'll cut you out,” he warns ahead of the song’s vicious breakdown.
Using I Prevail’s triumphant second full-length Trauma as a place to openly and honestly discuss things like internal negativity surrounding the band’s camp, co-vocalist Brian Burkheiser’s battle with a vocal polyp, and the recent unexpected passing of a close friend, Vanlerberghe and his bandmates put it all out in the open for fans to fully digest.
“We want to write the music that we want to write. We want to try something different. We want to do what we want to do,” says Vanlerberghe about working on I Prevail’s latest 13-track effort. “So going into that whole process, I think that's why we all couldn’t be prouder of what we put out. We couldn't be prouder of what we wrote. And to see the reaction of the fans, the only people that matter, I'm so glad. I can finally just, to everyone that was in our ears, give them all the middle finger and be like, ‘See, it doesn’t matter. We told you so. We're gonna keep doing it our way.’”
Opening up more about the punishing and genre-blending LP from the Michigan natives, including his venture into the world of hip-hop rapping on tracks like “DOA” and “Goodbye,” Vanlerberghe sat down with The Noise to discuss all things Trauma as well as their first headlining tour in nearly two years.
To check out our chat with Vanlerberghe, be sure to look below. Afterward, make sure to pick up a copy of Trauma and grab tickets to see the band out on tour with Issues and Justin Stone here.
So you’re a few dates into the tour. How’s it been going getting back on the road again?
Eric Vanlerberghe: It's been going fucking great, man. Every night has just been topping the last one. So that's all I can ask for.
Was there any rust getting back into things?
It’s been about a year and a half since we toured and a little bit over that, I think, since we had Brian on the road with us after he had vocal surgery. And we played a few festivals without him. So when we were practicing and rehearsing these new songs after the record was finished, it felt good getting back in the swing of things, you know, as the whole full band. And then when we were rehearsing going towards tour -- I feel like the first two, three tours, we did [in the beginning] we were so practiced up to the last minute and we're like, “Okay, we're good, we're good.” Now we just get to this feeling like, “Alright, we're at 85%.” There's no way we can be at 100% going into tour because you're not going to be there until you're in front of those fans and having people sing back to you and all the technical problems that you'll run into on the road. But yeah, it felt like [we] had a little bit of rust coming into it. But once we hit that first show, once we played that first song, I think that's when I was like, “Oh man, this is easy. I feel like me.”
How awesome was it just having Brian back on stage with you?
You feel whole again. It felt like we put training wheels on our last set [without him]. When we didn't have Brian, it felt like you're taking a step backwards and it's like, “Man we're not at our full potential yet.” So to finally have Brian back, it's perfect. I Prevail’s sound live is 100%. And Dylan [Bowman, guitarist] did a great job covering his parts when we had to take over for Brian, but there was just a little something missing to it and now I feel like we're back.
Is it nice not be the sole center of attention now that you have Brian up there by your side?
Yeah, definitely. I have these problems where I'll start talking fast and my brain can’t think and I'll be like, “So yeah, anyways, I'm talking about black matter and energy. Why the fuck am I talking about this onstage? Help me out. Where am I at right now?” So it's helpful to have someone there to be like, “Hey, anyways, you guys having a good night?!” before I go on this whole space talk or something. You know?
Totally. What’s it been like playing these new songs live?
I feel like we talked about this before Lifelines. [During that album cycle] it was great to have people come out and sing those songs and what a great feeling. Coming out here [now] it's like, “Oh man, it's gonna be cool having these people sing the songs back” thinking that the first three singles that were released, kids are going to sing along to and the rest of the people are going to be filming or listening or just wanting to hear it.
[During these shows] not a single damn song was there a kid not singing the words. It's unreal. It blew us away. I mean, we thought we knew what we were expecting. And just be like, “Oh yeah, the kids singing along and pushing people and having a good time.” But when it came to it, some of the deeper cuts that we think are not the [frontrunners] for like “show songs” -- we weren't gonna play “Low” [for example]. It came to the last week of practice. We're like, “Man, I really want to play it.” Steve’s like, “Yeah, I do too.” And Dylan and Brian were like, “Fuck. Let's throw it in there.” We come out here and kids are singing that as loud as they're singing “Bow Down” and “Breaking Down.” So it's so cool, man.
Obviously there's a newer musical style with the record. So were you nervous playing those songs live for the first time and what the reaction would be?
Yeah, we had a little bit of anxiousness going into it. We all love all these different genres and being able to try and explore what we really want to sound like and really want to do -- [so we had] a little anxiety going into that and putting that out there. You feel somewhat naked putting out a new style and on top of that, I'm doing a lot of the rap and going out onstage and if I forget a word or something, I can just go [*heavy vocals*] and people are like, “Yeah!” and I can save my ass. It's way different to perform some of the songs than what I'm used to. And the first night I was having a little nervousness going out there but after seeing the reaction, seeing how well received it is, I get this confidence and it's like, “I'm not even worried anymore. This is great.”
So with you rapping onstage, do you have a newfound respect for rappers who do it every single night?
Oh man, I’ve always loved rap. I grew up with metal and rap and rock and everything. And to be able to perform with no band behind you, that takes something, man. That does. And now doing it ourselves, in a small way -- yeah, I do [have] a lot more respect for these artists, man. It's crazy to be the only person onstage and have to build hype and just be on and it's about having this confidence, swagger, and stuff like that. There’s a lot to it, man.
Has it been interesting watching Justin Stone rap every night on this tour knowing you're going to be doing something similar later on in the evening?
Yeah, it's cool to watch. And seeing our fans get into it, it's nice to know that most of our fans are open-minded and not like, “Oh, it's not screaming? It's not rock and roll. It's not metal.” It's like, “Fuck off, man. It's music.” If you can just look past your little insecurities about what you like and just enjoy what you enjoy, you're gonna have a fun time. So watching these kids get hyped for Justin and watching his set, it's dope. It's really dope. And then right after that, you have Issues who have heavier instrumentals. And you have Tyler Carter, who's got the voice of a frickin’ angel. It sounds super smooth -- R&B, hip-hop kind of stuff. And it's just a cool mix overall on the tour to have all these genres just kind of feel like it blends well together. It's a cool melting pot we have out here.
Talking about rappers. Who were some of your favorite rappers growing up or that you still listen to today?
Oh, man. I remember the first CD I ever got was 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’. I got that jewel case CD somewhere in my parent's house and it’s smashed because I think my sister stepped on it. But yeah, I grew up listening to that, G-Unit, Eminem and like, nothing crazy. Anything that was on the radio that I could sneak past my parents, you know? But nowadays I like Joyner Lucas, Token. He's sick.
NF?
NF for sure. Yeah, love NF. Recently, I've got my Spotify on and it's like Bones, Scarlxrd, Pouya, Shakewell. Shit like that. And then the other one’s got Joyner, NF.
When you were going into the booth to first record your raps, was there a certain artist that you listened to to hype you up and help bring your flow out?
Honestly, I tried not to listen to as much rap when we were recording those songs. I just wanted to try a bunch of different ways and feel what was comfortable and what I wanted to sound like. I didn't want to be the typical rock rapper [where] it just kind of feels the same. And maybe it does sound the same. Maybe what I'm doing sounds just the same. Who knows? But I wanted to do that for myself. I wanted to go in there and try seven different ways and be like, “Alright, that one feels good. That feels like me.” That's what I want out of it. And that's how I feel about a song we have, the interlude called “Goodbye.” And then you got “Breaking Down” where I just I get more aggressive with it. And “Breaking Down” is a perfect example. I kicked everyone out of the room and sat down with the producer and sat in there for half an hour just doing that one verse over and over and over and over and over just to be like, “That's what feels good. Okay, got it. Let's do it again.”
Was that difficult? Considering you're obviously comfortable screaming and you might be able to do that in one or two takes but then rapping - you're like, “Why is this taking so long?”
Yeah, definitely. There's an art to it, man. I feel like a lot of kids out there that are like, “I hate [rap] music,” it takes -- maybe not everyone on the Top 40 is quote on quote, talented -- but rap it takes talent, man. It takes a lot of skill to track something and make it sound good. Not just like, “Cool. I'm rhyming a bunch of words, or I'm saying something.” There's something to it, man. There's a magic to it.
So you guys obviously spent a lot of time on this new record Trauma. What was it like compared to your previous recording session? There was a lot of pressure during Lifelines because it was your first full-length. So do you feel as though there was more this time around?
Yeah, because going back to our first record -- being new and we just did the [Heart Vs. Mind] EP and then you have this full-length record that you're supposed to put out. And you have your management, the label, other musicians, or your A&R guy all in your ear trying to tell you what's best. Like, “Oh, you need to go this route or that route” and for Lifelines, we started taking that direction. We're like, “Oh, that? Alright, we'll give that a shot.” And we’ve always had this model to keep an open mind like, “Let's be us but let's just take direction.”
Throughout the [recording] process, we just got more and more like, “This ain’t it.” So we left LA, went back home and redid it all. Didn't rush it, but kind of had this feeling like, “No, it's gotta be this.” And we put all this pressure on ourselves and I think it was needed as a first record to get out there and reach all these people, but the next time around when people started saying like, “That was great. Now you need to follow up with something like that.” That's not what we want to do. We want to keep stretching the boundaries of our music. On our EP, we had a super heavy [song] and then we had a really light acoustic one. And all these people talking shit like, “I Prevail is putting this EDM hip-hop garbage in their music.” Go back to our EP. We've had electronics in our music. We've had sounds like that.
So on Trauma, we wanted to do shit that was outside of the box. Like on “Paranoid” where instead of a chorus, it goes into an electronic drop. It’s different and then it goes no third chorus, no breakdowns, it just goes out. And when we started doing that, we had people like, “Oh no, that's not how you do it. That's not going to make you money.” We want to write the music that we want to write. We want to try something different. We want to do what we want to do. So going into that whole process, I think that's why we all couldn’t be prouder of what we put out. We couldn't be prouder of what we wrote. And to see the reaction of the fans, the only people that matter, I'm so glad. I can finally just, to everyone that was in our ears, give them all the middle finger and be like, “See, it doesn’t matter. We told you so. We're gonna keep doing it our way.”
Do you have a favorite song on the record?
Oh man, that's tough. That's so tough. Right now I think my top three are “Bow Down,” “Paranoid,” and it’s tough between “Gasoline” and the interlude “Goodbye” because that's a close personal [song].
youtube
“DOA” is a banger too.
That's another one. [We’re] playing that every night. That’s what I’m saying, listening to the record when we were writing it was like, “All of these [songs] are great. They'd probably be my top contenders for [playing them live]. And these [songs], I'd like to play those.” And then there's [no songs] that we're like, “Nah, we'll just not play that.” “DOA,” right now, that's pushing to the top [of my favorites]. It's so fun to play. It's one of my favorites.
youtube
With songs like “Bow Down” or “Breaking Down,” it seems like sometimes the style of the song dictates if you or Brian sing more on the track. Is that something you guys consider when you’re writing and recording? To maybe try and even out the “Eric songs” versus the “Brian songs?”
When we were writing the songs, I think every process is a little different. And sometimes that starts with a melody that we came up with or an instrumental or an idea or whatever. But when it gets to writing it sonically and the song’s getting 50%-75% of the way there and we start going through with melodies, verses, choruses and all that, we'll try a couple different things and be like, “That's the best.” Whether it's putting a big hook or putting a crazy heavy part or even the rapping on some songs like “Paranoid.” That could be singing all the way through [or] I could see maybe a little bit of screaming here and there, but it's just what felt right. Then when I tried that rapping part, right after Brian comes in like, “Oh man, I think that was it. Yeah, you guys feel that? Alright, cool.” Other than the ballads and stuff like that, it's all mainly just been going off of feel.
So moving on -- not that we need to look into the next record since you just put all this time into Trauma -- but how experimental do you guys want to get moving forward?
The best way I can answer that is I think for the next process I want to just take what we have -- what we did with the EP and what we did with Lifelines, the sonic sound side of everything -- then we [have] Trauma, where we took a step out on our heaviest songs “Bow Down” and “Gasoline” and then we have these experimental [songs] like “Goodbye,” “Paranoid,” and stuff like that where it pushes those boundaries. I want to do that on the next record [and be] like, “Fuck man, maybe put a death metal song and have like a full on rap Top 40 song on the same record.” I want to get to the point where we can do that kind of stuff because who says a rock band or a band in general has to stick to one sound? So I just want to keep pushing the boundaries and never lose what I Prevail is at the core.
Yeah, at the end of the day, you're all musicians.
Exactly.
You don't have to play one specific sound.
Exactly. I listen to from slam death metal -- like the Ingested shirt I'm wearing right now -- to like I said, the Top 40 stuff. So like rap and hip-hop to whoever. There's no reason to like be like, “Oh, I only listen to this. I’m better than you. I'm going to type with my Cheeto crusty fingers on the internet why this genre sucks.” What good is that doing? Just enjoy this shit. If you don't like it, move on. Find something else. But why live in a world where you just have five songs or five albums you listen to? I got so many albums on vinyl or my Spotify playlist I've only listened to once or something just because I like it. I know eventually I'm going to go back and listen to it. Why not have a shit ton of music? Whatever man, there’s too many people focused on being too narrow-minded.

Johnny’s Jury Questions
Questions are italicized
Answers are bolded
First off congratulations to all three of you! This cast was actually pretty strong, and there were a lot of big moves made and shocking things that happened throughout the duration of the season, and I’m happy to say I got played by this cast AND I got fucked over the same way Joanna did, so that was cool too
Roxy, I appreciate your pampering of me in your speech. I wasn’t really mentioned in the other two speeches, which was totally fine. I know I wasn’t a huge part of the “case forming” part of this game because I went out so early and really before the second merge took place. However, in your speech, you already referred to yourself as Dennis’ goat, and being worried about people perceiving you as that. I think that when people talk about their negatives like that, it’s really strong for a case to win because it shows that you know your flaws. However, my biggest problem is that you kept saying it, which really makes you think that Dennis was the leader of your duo, and maybe you didn’t take as big of a part in your own strategic game. I know you defended yourself a lot in your speech, but hit me with some defending of this notion. Gimme a move that you made that Dennis didn’t want to do, but you convinced him that it was better for your games to do it. If you don’t have one, it’s going to be pretty hard for me to give you my vote.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QLLeRXKwjrmgHURrnifmgvPpKjFRLS-y12B_qYcUlBM/edit
Dylan, I think you’re super cool. Loved your opening statements. I definitely think you played both sides of the fence, and you didn’t NEED to hold that power position, which I think was cool. My question for you is which juror do you think played the biggest role in you sitting in the finals, and why does that person deserve to win over you?
Dennis had the biggest role in my game because he was the person I trusted the most. Im not sure if Dennis mentioned this but after the Ford vote the two of us had a video call where we literally just explained everything to each other. From that point on every move that we made we made together. He deserved to win over me because he was better at comps than me, had more connections with people than me and had more influence over more votes [zach, drew, ford.] Theses are the reasons why in the end I had to do it to him.
Crow, I know you’re a smart dude, and I know that you socially know how to maneuver yourself through games to be on a good page with everyone, while also having a controlling say in the fate of the game. I love you like a brother, and you’ve been one of my best friends for a long ass time, so I’m going to set you up here and I hope you take advantage of this. If you are on the jury, what question would you ask yourself (as a finalist) and then please supply an answer. This should be a question that helps prove your case a little more after seeing everyone else’s jury statements, and I hope you use this to propel yourself to your first ORG win. Best of Luck!
My question to myself: What ultimately sets you apart from the other two finalists and why does that make you more worthy to win? (Sorry, but it's a dog-eat-dog game at this point)
Answer to myself: Wow thank you for the insightful question. After reading the other two's opening speeches, I find myself a little lost on some of their points. First, Dylan. He claims to have made mistakes, reasonably, as we all have, but defends his move at final five using the assumption that Jay/I would have taken Roxy to the end over him easily, which is simply and utterly false. I've said on multiple occasions that I did not want to be with Roxy at the end of this game, so it seems like a scapegoat excuse to pin the blame on an ill-timed move on me or Jay. Roxy was voted "Who do you most want to see win this game?" in touchy subjects and if there's any concrete evidence as to who not to bring to the end, it'd be that. Additionally, he uses the argument that he didn't want to be seen as Jay's goat, but when Dennis/Roxy were already a power duo in this game, I'm not sure how that perception would change if he immediately flips to the people who had just voted him. Especially when, honestly, they benefited the most out of Jay leaving over anyone. In conclusion, I feel as though I was always more of a threat to this cast than a simple number, which I believe the reverse is true for Dylan.
Roxy, obviously, neither of us wanted to be sitting next to each other, however, my main criticism of her game, as opposed to mine, is her inability to hide her relationships. Sure, she had great relations with a bulk of the cast, but when everybody knows that everybody's close to a particular someone, it plants seeds of doubt as to where they actually stand with her - which was definitely the case for me with her. I don't think people ever realized how close I was with Drew, Johnny, Sammy, Jay, until, well, now. And I think that's a large reason why I'm here. She made herself a target unnecessarily by attaching herself, as a companion or a sidekick, to Dennis so blatantly. There were times you could even ask her about her allies and she'd say she was tight with Dennis. Which is fine if she was using him as a shield, but now it seems she's trying to argue they were equals. And if one of her key components to this game was loyalty, then I'm also confused. She lied to me, and admitted to lying to Johnny and Eric as well. So it seems like that loyalty only went to one person really - Dennis. And complete loyalty to one person is such a dangerous thing in this game imo and suggests a sense of shepherding. While I definitely do not believe Roxy is purely here because of Dennis or that Roxy didn't play her own game, I think she failed to disguise her relations with people and allowed for the Dennis/Roxy duo to become so prominent that it put a bullseye on her back that would otherwise not be there.
My vote is still undecided. Dead ass. Don’t suck at your questions and be unable to articulate your game, or you’re not going to be getting my vote

S2 Rewatch - Maggie’s Take [ 207 ]
oh honey we’ve got a big storm coming...
Favorite scene
We’re getting to the point now in the season where all these questions become a million times harder to answer. All the scenes have an oomph to them. All the characters are at their richest. All the performances go off. So forgive me for cheating and giving multiple answers from here on out most likely. So in 207, three answers jump to mind. 1) The sequence where Farkle is having his true meltdown, before “Santa Fe.” From a writing standpoint, I remember I was really proud with how that scene turned out. It was a fun challenge, trying to capture that anxiety and panic and loss of reality. A fun fact that you may or may not know is that nearly all of the lines of dialogue said by the hallucinated characters are repetitions or variations on dialogue that has actually already been said in the show, meant to highlight how Farkle’s brain has taken these (usually offhand) comments and held onto them obsessively and in some cases even warped them into something more antagonistic than they were. Then there was the pattern of tying the sentiments together into one overarching monologue of sorts, repeating that thematic word over and over, “enough.” It was just so fun to write, and I’m really happy with how it came together. 2) The Dylan, Lucas, and Asher argument in the booth. Ooh, buddy. This was a true turning point, both for the narrative and for Asher and Dylan as characters. To me, that is the scene where they rise from supporting characters to mains, and in some ways it’s a long time coming. I love how it highlights the imperfections at play between that trio, and the way that Lucas and Asher know exactly how to get at one another, but nothing gets me more than Dylan’s “HEY” and stepping in between them. How Dylan snapping seems to be what pulls Lucas out of his anger, and how Dylan’s anger only lasts seconds before it shifts into like shock / concern... ugh I love him. I love them! Definitely a standout scene, even back when I first wrote it, but even more so now that Dylan and Asher have such larger roles in the third season. 3) The unintentional coming out scene between Riley and Charlie. The whole thing is just rich with tension, like I love the moment where Charlie is like you can’t tell anyone you can’t -- and she just interrupts him and it goes dead silent until she’s emphatically like I would never tell anyone... like chills, bro. Chills. And the relief that comes from Riley finally understanding why he’s been acting the way he has... so good. The follow up to this choice is the Zay and Charlie scene at the end where the freedom of someone knowing seems to allow him the strength to kiss Zay in their studio... I love them. I love it all. Whew.
Favorite performance
It’s getting hard... it’s getting tough to choose... like “Santa Fe” is up there because of the raw emotion of it and what it represents for Farkle and his arc. “Loser” is great too, mainly in concept, as we have Dasher acting as Lucas’s subconscious mind essentially and all of the cool choices in the production of the number. But I think I will have to go with “Waving Through A Window,” as that is such a standout performance in my opinion. It delivers emotionally, it has a cool flow and concept, there’s snow... whenever it comes on AMBITION shuffle I’m like oh yeah. Now we’re talking. And I love the visual of Isadora being stuck on the acting block / courtyard table, always inches from falling off the ledge but managing to avoid disaster. It’s just a really cool visual in my head. So that’s the top for me I think.
Favorite character (within context of the episode)
I literally can’t choose. I don’t know what to say. I think I’ll say maybe Charlie and Zay? Both in their storyline together as well as individuals. They’ve both got great solos (“Consideration” and “Exhale”), Charlie has his devolution emotionally and Zay finally (righteously) snaps at Angela. They find refuge, in Riley and Harper and of course each other. There are standout moments throughout the episode for their relationship -- holding hands at the top in the studio, Charlie hugging Zay in the hallway to comfort him and telling him it’s okay, the fraught moment of Charlie snapping at Zay about being at his locker which feels like a tiny unintentional step back, Charlie’s frazzled kiss on the cheek in public, the ending scene with another handhold and the softest kiss... ugh I love them. They were at a peak this episode, which makes sense considering what’s about to come...
Favorite line(s)
“You know what, you’ve got a lot to think about. Let me just get out of your hair. Best of luck with this next phase in your life, sir. Save a little social security for the rest of us provided climate change doesn’t kill us first!” --Lucas James Friar, to Eric
“I mean, but what am I going to do instead? Follow in the footsteps of my mom? I won’t survive veterinary school, Mister E. And you can only cure lung cancer once!” --Darby Winters
“Might be nice to help combat the impending danger of climate change and issues with renewable resources by studying environmental sciences or maybe aeronautical space engineering in pursuit of space materials that could be used as new energy sources. Ooh, or a rodeo clown!” --Dave Williams
“Actually, I’m near-sighted. But I wear contacts.” --Dylan Orlando, in response to Eric asking if his future plan is “short-sighted”
“I looked into “space cowboy,” but as it turns out you need a degree in aerospace engineering as well as a license to boy cows, and that seems like a lot of work. So then I thought, well, if I don’t have the capacity to work, what else is there in this capitalistic hell we call society? Sure, I could probably enter myself in human cage fights and scrap to death for spare change, but I think that would hurt after a while and to be honest, I think I’d feel a bit like a piece of meat if I took up that mantle. Who would I be fighting to impress? The bourgeoisie? Hard pass. But after some deep, probing soul-searching, I finally hit the one. Trophy husband. Now, I know what you’re thinking. To accomplish such a grand ambition, I’d have to get someone to like me. And that’s a pretty hefty task, believe me I know, but I’ve devised a work around. This is, as Dave would say, galaxy-brained thinking, Mister E. I’m going to put an ad on Craigslist.” --Lucas James Friar
“It’s easy to say you believe in someone. Showing up for them is a different story.” --Zay Babineaux
“We’re friends, Lucas. We care about you. Asher wasn’t lying about that. And when you decide you want to do something about this, we’ll be there. When you need us... we’re going to be there for you. No matter what.” --Dylan Orlando
“I don’t know if this will make you feel better or worse, but the truth is it all comes down to endurance. How long you can take it, how long you can stick it out until it ends up being your shot. The true test of who lives the dream is who hangs on… and who gives up.” --Harper Burgess
An underrated moment
There are so many it would be so hard for me to pick one if I thought about it too hard, so I’m gonna go with my gut. My favorite mini moment in the episode is during the end montage, when Dylan climbs in the window to comfort Asher. There’s a lot of small details I like about it that occur just within like 30 seconds -- Asher’s routine with crushing up his anxieties (a thing elaborated on in Cruel Summer), how commonplace it is for Dylan to climb in the window, and how he jumps into comfort mode and they both fall into that without any words at all. I just love it. And I can picture the way Dylan kisses his cheek and then his shoulder and then rests his head against him so perfectly... I adore them. They are angels.
First impression vs your reread impression
Obviously, even when I wrote this last year it felt major. Because it is. This is the turning point episode, literally and narratively. It’s smack in the middle, and from here I knew everything was going to be bigger and more, especially since we pulled the (metaphorical) trigger with Farkle. We knew that was a narrative risk, but we felt strongly about it, and we took every method we thought possible to set it up well, be cautious about it to y’all (with trigger warnings and hotlines, etc.), and then follow through on it in a way that balanced realism with care and attention. I think we managed to pull it off, but it was a great relief that you all reacted so well to it (in terms of the narrative, not like joyously LMAO) and trusted us to carry it forward. That kind of trust in a writer means a lot, and that’s what I’ll always remember when I think about this episode. Thankfully, we all survived it, and now here we are on the cusp of S3. Insane. And now onto 208... the storm is here...

Hi, I am so here for all this ambition content right now. I check this page every day! I remember u guys mentioning about a rl and dasher road trip and I was wondering about that! Thank you!
hello pal!! literally so honored and happy that you’re enjoying ambition and the fact that you check our page every day... ugh you’re too sweet. hopefully the nonsense we do around here is entertaining! very happy to have you in our fandom community <3
so yes, rl + da road trip! i hope it’s okay that i took a bit to answer this, bc i wanted to ruminate on it for a bit before typing it up. so as y’all know we refer to the summer between s1 and 2 as “cruel summer” (thank u tswift), and similarly we have a code name for the summer between s2 and 3 which is “summer of love.” this is admittedly mainly because of rl, but also because a majority of the characters are in such a better headspace this summer than they were last.
boppin the rest under a read more, because i just go on... and on... and on............. (i really love rl & da)
-- Maggie
one facet of this summer is that around... july sometime, dylucasher decide they want to take a trip down to virginia beach (or the beaches in that general vicinity) because they want to check out a beach that isnt grey and cold like the ones close to them in ny, and because a trip before their last year of school together seems like a fun and Classic idea. originally they plan it for just the three of them, but somehow riley comes up and all of them agree -- especially dylan -- that it would be way more fun if she came along too. so they try to convince her to come along, which doesn’t take much convincing, it’s more so about figuring out how she’s going to get around cory because if he knew she wanted to go on a like week long trip with her boyfriend (who he doesn’t really trust) and two other boys he would probably have a heart attack.
you know, it would be like “you can’t go on an overnight trip with three boys!!!” “dad, you know dylan and asher. they’re gay. they’ve been dating for three years. they’re GAY. i do not think i’m at ALL at risk in that scenario???” fsdfSDKGDL
so riley devises a plan / cover story that involves like “going to stay with mom” for a few days, maybe a lie about staying over at isa’s or yindra’s for a couple days in there, you know, she lays out the whole lie and then bribes maya to go along with it and help cover her tracks (rl have very inverse influences on one another -- where riley sort of tames lucas and helps calm him and make him less feral, she develops a bit of a rebellious streak from him or just better identifies the nuances of which rules should be followed vs which were meant to be bent or broken..)
the good thing about this road trip is that it’s what truly cements riley’s friendship with dylan and asher. they’ve been toeing the line of friendship for like two years now (as riley said in cruel summer, she regretted not taking the time and establish a friendship with them in sophomore year before everything fell apart), and it’s kind of like it’s bound to happen. riley and asher takes a little more time to grow and develop just because of the kind of person asher is, but on this road trip dylan and riley just Click. like they were basically made to be best friends, dylan is the first person who kind intrinsically Gets riley and they match each other in terms of enthusiasm / personality / brightness. again, a friendship that’s just been Waiting to happen, and this trip really brings that to the forefront.
(on that note, i once joked that when dylan and riley get really into chatting about something and lucas zones out, they start sounding like the villagers in animal crossing to him. like if he stops paying attention for even a second suddenly dyley sound like this. and i stand by that claim.)
as for the trip itself, its not like i have the whole thing perfectly plotted or anything like that, more just... musings and ideas. oh and a playlist, of course i have a playlist. obviously they’re really good about swapping around drivers and sort of organizing their time since they only have a week, and i think it’s mainly funded by dylan’s youtube vlogger coin. asher helps and riley chips in her fair share, but dylan basically covers lucas because obviously he can’t pay but they all want him there. he makes up for this by driving the most even tho the other three insist its not a big deal.
when it comes to sharing space, the quartet of them are pretty good at it. obviously when they stop for the night they just share beds by couple, but it is interesting to think about how different these two relationships are in terms of like... you know, where they’re at. like its super easy for da to share a bed because they basically do that all the time now, but for rl breaking that boundary would be a kind of unspoken big deal and lucas would be so cautious about it. like they spend most of the summer in riley’s car (can’t hang out at her place with cory there and no one is going to lucas’s) and so theyve probably like fallen asleep together there once or twice and maybe napped ONCE at riley’s place when maya and cory were both gone in the 2.5 months they’ve been together, but it’s still... not the same. so at first lucas would be really nervous about it, but after the first couple of nights he’d relax and realize its really not that big a deal -- esp since riley seems pretty confident and comfortable with it. by the end of the week, lucas wakes up in the middle of the night and riley has cuddled up next to him and he’s like... okay MAYBE sharing a bed with someone makes points. perhaps.
one of the nights on the way down the coast, what truly breaks the ice for dylan and riley is that they break out a SMALL amount of alcohol and both get tipsy (which for them is just like. giddy and giggly and very chatty. they’re both happy drunks without a doubt). lucas and asher don’t indulge bc lucas doesn’t trust himself getting intoxicated and asher is just wary of it in general, but they figure dyley can do it as long as they’re both supervising. so dylan and riley talk A LOT that night and truly form their Kindred Spirit bond and also lucasher end up regretting letting them drink bc for like a half an hour dyley do this thing where they just pretend to share secrets with one another. like they theatrically whisper in one another’s ears and look at lucasher while they’re doing it and then start laughing and they’re literally not saying anything Important (like it’s probably like riley being like “psst... i think lucas is... hee hee... lucas is hot”) and then dylan cracking up and agreeing but bc lucasher don’t know what they’re saying they’re like ha ha very funny........... but y’all aren’t talking about us doe right. wait, what did you say. hold on --
a lot of the trip is also based around being in nature and the outdoors, since they don’t get to do much of that day-to-day in manhattan. considering one of their favorite spots to hang out as a group during senior year is at central park, they’re all definitely fresh air outdoorsy kind of people to a degree. so like, stopping at parks, going on hikes, and of course the beach itself. i made an instagram edit of one of said hikes when i was testing a template i made:
naturally, and i swear this happens at least once on a long road trip whether it is with family or friends or any combo of people, but you hit a point where you get irritable and start to get a little sick of one another. i think in this case that mainly starts between lucas and asher, because although they’re Best Friends i think lucas has a knack for finding ways of irritating him. and also lucas probably gets irritated by dylan’s high energy after too much time with no breaks, so he’s also snappy, and as they’re on the way back up to nyc people are spatting at one another or getting snippy over stupid things so riles is like. here’s an idea! how about we split up for the day when we get to philadelphia. this is an excellent idea and none of them are opposed, so when they arrive in philly, dylan and asher split off to go explore the city + historical sites.
what do riley and lucas do? well, riley takes lucas to meet her grandparents, of course.
at first lucas is like ummmmmmm no because he’s SUPER nervous about meeting her family -- the only family he’s met is cory and we know that’s... unideal, and eric, both of whom have a completely different perception of him bc of school and his behavioral record. he’s yet to meet topanga or auggie yet or anything like that -- but riley assures him that her grandparents are chill and she has no doubt she’ll like them. they’re also meeting lucas with a completely blank slate (i.e. no preconceived notions about him like those who work at aaa), so it’s not hard for lucas to make a good impression since he really is like... a good guy. not to mention no way is he snarky or deadpan in situations where he doesn’t feel comfortable or like he has the right lmao, so he’s on his BEST behavior around amy and alan.
the good thing is that alan himself kind of had a similar background and run on the wild side that lucas does (kind of like jack, altho jack was never as troubled as lucas), and so i think he would kind of... inherently Get him. like he’d strike up a conversation with him and at first lucas would be like omg why is this man speaking to me please i’m invisible pretend i’m not here... but after a bit he’d find it’s surprisingly easy to talk to alan. and they’d talk for like an hour and get on pretty well. meanwhile, amy is talking to riley and is like so... let me guess. cory does not know you’re traveling with your boyfriend???? and riley is like... perhaps. maybe don’t tell him? pretty please? and once amy convenes with alan and is like how is he and alan is all “he’s fine, we can approve,” then they agree not to rat riley out.
riley and lucas also climb up into the matthews tree house and take a look around and they comment on how strange it is that cory and eric once used to like, hang out in there and in that house and were once teenagers (lucas: be careful this is humanizing your father too much for me). and i’d think they’d sit up in the treehouse for a little bit and just talk and riley would talk about how nice it must’ve been to grow up in the suburbs like this, and she’s surprised when lucas agrees and he admits he fucking hates living in manhattan. and that kind of prompts this subtle internal thinking in both of them of like hmm well... maybe in the future when things are different and we can make our own rules maybe we’ll move out of the city and into a quieter life... they don’t say any of that out loud, but they’re both thinking it. and at the tail end of that conversation riley kisses lucas which turns into a Really Good Kiss... but then they’re interrupted by amy calling for them to come down for dinner and its kind of like lmao, they’re both a little bashful but in a casual silly way
#riley x lucas#dylan x asher#riley x dylan#rl x da#SOL#bonus content#kind of lol#is this readable? who knows. i just really Love them#thank you for asking about them!!!#there's also an insta edit buried in here gJFDLGH#Anonymous#answered#high praise tag

INT. BABINEAUX HOME - ZAY’S ROOM - DAY
We’re close on a phone, laying on the surface of a vanity dresser. The screen lights up, displaying a notification from Instagram. The moment does give us a bit of AAAC-induced PTSD, but it’s innocuous -- “wholemayahartedly liked your photo.”
Underneath the notification, a reminder sits waiting. “Welcome back to AAA.”
As the clock hits 7:00AM, an alarm begins to go off, but the owner is already awake. A hand reaches out to quickly swipe away the alarm, and ZAY BABINEAUX returns to our screens once again. He’s already geared up for the day, looking fresh and cool as ever.
He glances at himself in the mirror, adjusting his hair and rolling his shoulders before letting out a sigh. Welcome back, indeed. As jaunty, cool beats float in…

Zay travels through the halls as he descends into the second verse, slowing down a bit as he takes stock of the setting in the new year. Zay is showing off his freestylings on the AAA stage, suddenly alone again. The spotlight is on him and the number is clearly a performance, but it’s unclear for whom and why. Either way, he shines as he completes the routine, running through the final chorus with energy and obvious talent.
When he finishes, breathless and squinting into the lights, there are no applause. No standing ovation. Just quiet, save for the quiet scribbling of pens on paper. It’s clear there’s a panel of some kind seated in the back of the auditorium, but no other information.
Then, a familiar voice through the darkness:
Eric: Thank you, Zay. We’ll let you know.
Zay exhales, offering a tight smile and nodding a thank you. As he turns to exit the stage, his confident exterior falters somewhat.

Through the scope of an A/V club camera, DAVE WILLIAMS eagerly welcomes back the junior class as he and NICK YOGI, behind the camera, kick off the back-to-school cheer. Standing outside the doors to the black box theater, Dave waits for a cue from Yogi.
Dave: Is it -- are we ready? Are you rolling?
Yogi: It’s rolling.
Dave: There’s no like -- shouldn’t there be a light? Blinking or something?
Yogi: Just trust me, it’s rolling.
Dave: You know I trust you with my life.
Yogi: And me, you. It’s David and Goliath, baby.
Dave: It’s David and Goliath! Welcome back, AAA thotties, to the thunderdome.
Yogi explains that he and Dave are endeavoring to reinstate the A/V club to its former glory, and part of this task involves getting the scoop before anyone else. So they’ll be going around and catching up with their classmates after the disastrous way that last year wrapped up, offering what they refer to as “Dogi Exclusives.”
The whole sequence is a bit jarring considering Yogi is filming and Dave is a whole foot taller than him, but they make it work. And boy, do they certainly have some exclusives.

As the quick-paced montage kicks off, Dave and Yogi pursue Zay first. They follow him as he parades through the halls with his new level of confidence. He claims that his summer break was excellent, completely fulfilling in every possible way.
Although Dogi want to dig deeper on that, their questioning is interrupted by the trio of them running into MAYA HART. She looks even more polished than last year, radiating diva and her envy-worthy blonde locks as shiny and voluminous as ever. She and Zay exchange a quick, snappy handshake, indicating they’ve become better friends in the time we’ve spent away.
The two of them state that this year is going to be unlike any other, and all the bullshit from last year is completely irrelevant.
Dave: And all the stuff from the AAAC --
Maya: Old news.
Zay: The drama? The fakeness?
Maya: Farkle Minkus?
Zay: Gone. Caput.
Dave: What about the fact that you’re on scholarship --
Maya: Here’s what you need to focus on, Davis. Nothing that parasitic pinnacle of a page had to say means anything. And we’d all be wise to forget about it, because there are far more interesting things for us to be focused on this year.
When Dave and Yogi ask for elaboration, all that Maya will say is that there may very well be a new diva rising through the ranks in the junior class. Not above her or Zayby, of course, but someone with a lot of starpower is going to make Minkus more irrelevant than he already is.
An interesting promise…

He’s softened his attire to less straight-laced and more casual for his standards -- nice sweaters and plain tees. His hair has grown out over the summer, trimmed for back-to-school yet still more wild and free than before.
Exterior mellow aside, as he talks to Dave and Yogi he appears a bit shifty. He comes off like a politician rather than a peer, rehearsed and vague. Expert at avoiding confrontation.
Charlie: I’ve done a lot of self-reflection this summer, and I realize that sending those posts was the wrong decision. Those were the actions of someone who I do not wish to be, so I’m trying to do better and make up for those mistakes.

The look is completed of course with Converse, although we note that she’s wearing a new pair of yellow high tops rather than her usual old black pair. Presumably a gift from someone (mayhaps a starlet mother?), since Isa isn’t inclined to spend her money on clothes.
Yogi asks if she’s worked on any short films over the summer, and she retorts that she actually spent more time focusing on her performance chops for this year. This is a bombshell revelation -- Isadora De La Cruz is going to take the stage! -- and Dave and Yogi are shook.
Dave: Breaking news!
Yogi: You heard it from Dogi FIRST!
Isadora doesn’t seem interested in humoring them further. Dave shouts one more question after her as she marches away, lucky that she turns around to gift them a snarky answer.

INT. AAA - JACK’S OFFICE - DAY
And that warrior takes a human form in HARPER BURGESS (26). She’s petite and baby-faced, an eager smile on her face as she finishes signing last minute paperwork for her employment. But don’t let her size be deceiving -- underneath the leather jacket and driven sparkle in her eyes is the fiery personality of a former AAA alumna returning to the homestead after being forged to steel in the real world.
She passes the finished papers across the desk to JACK HUNTER, who takes them happily. Given how run ragged he appeared at the end of last season, it is a relief to see him seemingly well and back on top of things. Polished as usual, in any case.
Jack congratulates Harper and welcomes her to the AAA team, both of them rising as he shakes her hand. He reiterates a fair warning that the junior class is no easy group, but Harper expresses optimism that she can handle it. After all, she was once a student just like them.
Harper: I survived my four years at this school fighting for my scrap of the spotlight, Jack. I think if I can do that, then I can survive just about anything.
Jack: Well, believe me when I say this crop of students isn’t quite like any other.
Still, he admires her optimism, and sends her off with the assurance that he also believes she will do an excellent job. As she heads out she bumps into ERIC MATTHEWS, who gives her a playful salute.
Eric: Welcome to the force, soldier.
Harper awkwardly returns the salute, trying her best to adjust to this new team of oddballs as efficiently as possible. Eric waits until she departs to shift his focus, questioning if Jack still wants to go over their game plan for the first week. He figures it would be good to double check that they’re both on the same page.
Jack enthusiastically agrees, gesturing Eric in and grabbing his coffee thermos. As Eric settles in the chair opposite his desk, we get the sense that the two administrators have done a lot of collaborating over the summer. They demonstrate a comfortable new rapport, definitely closer to being on the same wavelength than last year.
It’s also clear, for what it’s worth, that Eric is enjoying their dual efforts. He listens intently as Jack speaks, a light smile on his face as he flips through his notes. Jack paces the floor, walking through their thought process with zeal.
Jack: All of the students enrolled here are talented, there’s no doubt about that. Even the junior class specifically, I’ll say, has some of the brightest students I think we’ve had at Adams. They are not short of starpower.
Eric: Certainly not.
Jack: But the behavior we’ve witnessed over the last couple of years is unacceptable, and it reached a fever pitch in May. There’s no excuse for that sort of culture, and they all had their hand to play in it. We’re not letting it slide from here on out.
Eric: No, sir, we are not.
Jack: The fact of the matter is, as you and I have had to come to Jesus over --
Eric: Please, remind me for the hundredth time --
Jack: -- talent isn’t everything. Success requires hard work. Compassion. Integrity. These are the values we are going to uphold at Adams, and anyone who deems themselves above it all will find themselves facing a swift kick of reality. Mister Livingston was the first, and he doesn’t have to be the last.
Jack and Eric go on to discuss the logistics of their back-to-school shake-up, which contextualizes Zay’s solo from earlier (a flashforward, we now realize) -- they will be requiring every junior to “reaudition” over the course of the week. This is in terms of their performance, but also their attitudes and behavior.
Jack: They earned their places at this school, I firmly believe that. But they have to put the work in to prove they still deserve it. Because there are dozens of equally talented young dreamers out there with just as much ambition as them who would kill to have their place in this class. They need to remember that.
Eric, although disappointed with how things have ended up, nods in agreement. The mere shake-up of the reaudition should be a subtle but important wake up call.
Jack takes a sip of his coffee, glancing down at the new hire paperwork on his desk. So many changes already in effect.
Jack: If they want to see the success of their futures realized, then they better show up.
INT. AAA - AUDITORIUM - DAY
Isadora makes her way through the empty auditorium, early before class. She jogs up the stairs to the technician’s booth.
INT. AAA - TECHNICIAN’S BOOTH - DAY
Isadora cautiously pokes her head in, listening for any signs of life. She wanders further in, heading to the center of the cramped space and getting a good look around.
It’s empty. Untouched. The panel by the electrical cabinet is secure and in place, not acting as a living space by any means. It feels abandoned.
It feels wrong.
With an unsurprised sigh, Isadora heads back out before first bell.
INT. AAA - BLACK BOX THEATER - DAY
The performing students have congregated in the black box classroom, chattering amongst themselves. Isadora hesitantly peers through the doors, cautious to step into her first official day as a performing arts student.
As she stands in the doorway, a ripple of reaction seems to go through the assembled class. Suddenly, a techie in their midst? Isadora clearly doesn’t know where to go. There’s a moment where she locks eyes with Riley sitting by Zay, but the way Isadora quickly averts her gaze from Riley’s awkward smile indicates that things aren’t all well and good in that camp.
Instead, another unlikely ally throws her a life preserver. Maya perks up when she spots her, eagerly waving her over to join her, Darby, and Yindra.
Maya: Izzy. Izzy, over here!
Isadora is grateful for the save, rushing over and sliding into the seat behind her. Maya whips around to give her a playful swat and eyebrow wiggle, just as Harper arrives and sends the room into uncertain silence.
There’s a long beat of trepidation, Harper gazing at her new classroom and the throng of her new students staring back at her. Taking a deep breath, she marches into the room with authority and greets them all, introducing herself as their new performance coach. She explains that she was once a student just like them, although she admittedly dabbled a bit more in the technical arts than she thinks most of them have these days.
Sarah: And you came back to teach us? Couldn’t catch a break, huh?
A few snickers through the room throw Harper off her game. She cheekily acknowledges Sarah’s comment, stating that she had her run in the backstages of Broadway, but she thought coming back here when the position miraculously opened up felt like a can’t-miss opportunity.
Still, the introduction has been sabotaged and the rest of her opening is on shaky ground. Many of her little asides don’t garner any favor, and the junior class is already proving to be a tough room. When Charlie, seated with Clarissa and Haley although somewhat removed, throws her a few words of encouragement it is met with a subtly coughed “teacher’s pet.”
Harper changes tact, choosing to redirect focus to attendance. She makes her way through the list until she hits a snag on Farkle, silence heavy in the room after she states his name. She repeats it, uncertainly given its odd status, but it’s clear he’s a no-show. Absent.
Ditching on the very first day. Maya and Zay exchange a look, obviously unimpressed.
INT. MINKUS HOME - DAY
At the luxurious Minkus suite, things admittedly feel somewhat muted. Most of the Minki children and Stuart are gone for school and work, only JENNIFER MINKUS present. She’s on the phone, pacing as she recounts to Stuart that Farkle has opted to stay home from school.
It’s evident she’s concerned, claiming that he’s been under the weather for “at least a month now.” She’s wondering if perhaps they should call the family doctor.
Jennifer: He could be iron deficient. Or anemic, you know how that runs in my family. And the amount of medications I take alone per day just to keep this body up and running in working order, maybe we should have him checked out for similar things...
INT. MINKUS HOME - FARKLE’S ROOM - DAY
Despite the morning hour, the room is dark when Jennifer pokes her head in to check on her son. The curtains are drawn, and the space itself feels stagnant. Somewhere in the mess of blankets on the bed is Farkle, barely visible in the dark.
Jennifer informs him gently that she called him in, but it would be a shame if he were to fully miss out on his first day back for junior year. Maybe later, depending on how he’s feeling, he can go in for the second half of the school day. Farkle doesn’t seem enthused, plaintively stating that he would like to keep resting.
It’s clear that this answer concerns Jennifer, but she gives him space as requested. It’s out of sorts for him to be so unmoved about missing time at AAA, but then, she has absolutely no idea what unfolded at the end of last year.
She closes the door, allowing him to rest and sheltering him back in the dark.
INT. AAA - AUDITORIUM - DAY
In the first performance class of the semester, the entirely of the junior A class reunites and watches as SHAWN HUNTER and Harper take the stage together. It’s pointed from the get-go that they have no idea how to act around one another or work effectively in their new partnership, Harper looking for clues from Shawn while he’s attempting to just pretend everything is the same. In this case, that means proceeding as if she’s hardly there.
He takes the reins in dropping the new year bombshell on them, which is that they will be required over the course of the first week back to reaudition for their spot at AAA. Given how much of a mess the end of last year was, it was determined that a procedure was necessary to ensure that each of them are still eligible in their attendance.
Naturally, the students are not pleased about this announcement. The performers immediately start complaining about how unfair it is, while the techies seem particularly spooked by the notion considering they’re not performers. They’re not “audition” material.
Harper speaks up, hoping to alleviate some of the stress.
Harper: Well, actually, that’s one thing we’re hoping to work on this year. We’d love to see more engagement with the technical aspects from our performing students, as well as more performance participation from the technicians. That way, all of us will have a well-rounded understanding and appreciation for all angles of education at Adams.
A wonderful sentiment, but not what they want to hear right now. The uproar grows worse, Harper obviously stunned by the theatrics of this collective group. Turns out Jack was not kidding around about the junior class.
Shawn brings them back to Earth, assuring the techies that their auditions do not necessarily need to be performance-based. All they need to do in some fashion is demonstrate their skillset and why they deserve their spot at AAA. Just like when they applied the first time.
Part of this, as mentioned before, is reflected just in the act of showing up ready to learn. Farkle’s absence is pointed, as is Lucas’s. Shawn doesn’t look pleased as he scans the center section and finds no sign of his head technician.
Harper manages to interject over Shawn again, also explaining that they will be doing performance drills throughout the week to see what shape all of them are in after summer break. It’s important that they’re able to keep up to keep their spot. Isadora seems particularly intimidated by this information.
As they split for their first breakout groups of the year, Riley catches up to Isadora. She attempts to have a conversation with her and reassure her that she’ll be fine at drills, but Isadora ignores her. Somewhat isolated, Riley takes the hit and heads in the other direction.
Shawn pulls Dylan and Asher aside, asking them where the hell Lucas is. They unconvincingly claim that they have no idea. Shawn posits that this is a real shame, considering a) if Lucas doesn’t show up this week and participate in the stupid reaudition scheme he might very well be kicked out, and b) with Isadora having jumped ship they need a strong technician present to steer the ship with the rest of them.
Asher: Well, Mister Shawn, all due respect, but I think we deserve a little more credit --
Shawn: Oh, yeah? You wanna take charge, Garcia?
Asher: Absolutely not. Hopefully Lucas will get the message.
Shawn, flatly: Yeah. Hopefully.
INT. AAA - ERIC’S OFFICE - DAY
Per tradition, Riley meets up with Eric for lunch given that it’s the first day. After settling in, she asks him what he thinks about the whole reaudition process. He claims it was the only solution he and Jack could come up with.
Eric: It’s only meant to be a reminder that your acceptance here is conditional. The opportunities all of you are benefitting from and the exposure to fellow talents is contingent upon your willingness to help foster a creative, collaborative community.
[ Riley nods along. That sounds too good to be true, at this point. ]
Eric: You all have all the talent in the world, you know I believe it. But there have to be lines, there have to be consequences for our actions. If you push it too far, then we’re going to push back.
Speaking of the negative climate, Eric asks Riley how she’s handling the less-than-stellar current atmosphere between the students. Is she feeling okay? She claims it’s fine -- after all, it’s nothing she couldn’t handle last year.
Eric points out that this is quite a bit different than the situation she entered before, but Riley doesn’t seem ready to confront that reality. She’s opting for denial, choosing to believe that this is merely another gap between her peers that she can bridge.
INT. AAA - JACK’S OFFICE - DAY
Isadora is meeting with Jack, finalizing the details to change her core focus from film studies to a dual focus in film and vocal performance.
Jack asks her to confirm that she’s certain about this change. Although there is a moment of hesitation, she does assure him that she’s serious about it. He doesn’t seem displeased, reminding her that all of this is of course contingent upon her reaudition but also stating that he’s proud of her for deciding to try something out of her comfort zone. Especially given her natural talent.
As she starts to head out, Jack ventures another query.
Jack: Have you -- do you have any idea what the deal is with Mister Friar? Is he planning on coming back to school?
[ The question is a bit sarcastic, but the genuine concern behind it is loud and clear. ]
Isadora: [ with an uncertain shrug ] Believe me, Principal Hunter. If Lucas were here, I think we’d both know pretty quickly.
Jack nods acquiescence, dismissing her. After she’s gone, he sighs, reaching forward to pick up his phone and make a call.
INT. MATTHEWS APARTMENT - NIGHT
Riley is eating dinner with CORY MATTHEWS, the only two present. As we learn through the sparse conversation, Auggie is out with Topanga, demonstrating how the separation is impacting the familial dynamic.
Cory can tell that the first day back did not go swimmingly. He attempts to get Riley to talk about it, but she shrugs off the concern. He goes on to explain that when he was in high school he had tiffs with his friends too -- Shawn, even! -- but he never gave up on them. So if she feels like people are slipping away from her, then she should do everything in her power to close the distance. She’s always been impressive at that, after all.
Although Riley is down, she chews on the sentiment. Adding fuel to her problem-solving fire.
INT. MINKUS HOME - KITCHEN - NIGHT
Jennifer hits the play button on the voicemail machine as she’s preparing for dinner, listening as Jack’s message comes through on the speaker.
Jack: I hope all things are well. I’m calling in regards to Farkle’s absence today. While we all wish him better health and a quick recovery, due to the circumstances surrounding the junior class and our newly implemented special policies, it is imperative that he return to school within the week to maintain his enrollment.
In the midst of the recording, a door in the hall creaks open. Timidly, FARKLE MINKUS emerges from the dark and pads into the room, catching the end of the message as Jack wishes them well again.
To be frank, he’s looked better. He’s slighter than when we last saw him, dressed rather slovenly in his large sweater and sweats. The perpetual bedhead doesn’t help, especially when paired with the glazed, unmoved expression on his face. Whether or not he’s actually ill, he sure looks the part.
He approaches the countertop as Jennifer pauses the message machine, examining him. She makes playful commentary about how he’s finally risen from the dead, explaining that dinner will be ready soon. They’re planning on calling Lila at university as a family afterwards to see how she’s settling in, so she’s happy he’s up and moving.
Farkle: Will dad be here?
Jennifer: … well, you know how busy your father is. He may dial in, but --
Farkle: So it’s not really as a family, is it?
Jennifer gives him a disappointed look, then dodges the question as she changes the subject. She states that she hopes he’ll be better for school tomorrow. It would be horrible for this illness to affect his time at AAA. He, personally, doesn’t seem all that concerned.
INT. FOSTER HOME - ISADORA’S ROOM - NIGHT
Isadora is on the phone, blocking out her foster siblings as she attempts to talk to Maya. The latter is giving her reassurance, reminding her that they went over her audition a hundred times and she’s going to kill it. No sweat. When Isadora asks what she’s planning to do for her audition, Maya plays coy and says it’s a surprise. Only time will tell, won’t it?
After they hang up, CATHERINA GONZALEZ enters and makes a comment about it’s nice to be let back into her own room. Isadora sneers at her sass, Catherina asking who the hell she was even talking to.
Catherina: It didn’t sound like Lucas.
Isadora: I have other friends, you know.
Catherina: [ with a scoff ] Since when?
Isadora opts to go back to tuning Catherina out, focusing on a different conversation. It’s a text conversation with her mother, Valerie De La Cruz. The last message that Isadora sent is an audio message, and from the message Valerie sent in reply it must be a recording of her audition.
Valerie expresses high praise, lauding how great she sounds and how her training is already shining through. She assures her that she’s going to ace this “audition” -- just don’t forget to breathe! Use diaphragm breaths! Isadora absorbs the sentiment again, taking it to heart.
INT. MAYA’S APARTMENT - NIGHT
Maya is crashed in her loft bed, having just hung up with Isadora. She hangs on her phone, scrolling through her other conversations. She hesitates when she sees Farkle, the last time they texted being as far back as summer. It wasn’t a very long or good conversation, and they’ve been silent since.
But now, she breaks the stalemate. She types a new message with a scowl on her face, obviously not pleased with his disappearance.
INT. MINKUS HOME - FARKLE’S ROOM - NIGHT
Farkle gets the message just as he’s climbing back into bed, about to go back to sleep. The message is simple, straight-forward, and gets the message across: “You really blew everything up, and now you won’t even come back to face it? Coward.”
As he reads, some of that natural manic spark we’re so familiar with seems to return to Farkle’s eyes. He may be a mess, and he may not be up for a scrap, but he most certainly is not going to get talked down to by Maya Penelope Hart.
He throws the blankets off of him, getting to his feet with renewed purpose.
INT. AAA - HALLWAY - DAY
Farkle isn’t the only one on the warpath. Riley is in hot pursuit of the techies, trying to get them to talk to her so she can start piecing together a way to reconnect with them. But all of them are freezing her out, albeit some more effectively than others.
JADE BEAMON is horrible at avoiding her, and she can’t even make eye contact as she jogs away from her. JEFF MONROE makes up an excuse, stating if he doesn’t set up the lighting booth, well, who will? NATE MARTINEZ lies and claims he’s running late for class, even though Riley points out that they have fifteen minutes until first bell.
Nate: Late to be early. I like to be punctual. Punctually punctual. Okay, see you later.
When she finally reaches Dave, he is by far the worst at subtlety.
Riley: Could you at least explain why you’re all running from me?
Dave: We’re not running.
Riley: Dave, we’re literally speedwalking like soccer moms right now. What is going on?
Dave: I can’t say.
Riley: Sure you can. We can talk about whatever it is --
Dave: No, Lucas and Isadora said we’re not supposed to talk to you. That’s the whole point. And now I’m fucking it up -- come on, Dave!
He marches onward, leaving Riley even more confused and more than a little stung. Ouch. But she’s not going to give up that easily.
INT. AAA - ERIC’S OFFICE - DAY
Shawn is pacing, lamenting how doesn’t know how he’s going to handle this new teaching arrangement. He and Harper are not on the same page, and he has no idea how to communicate with her. She doesn’t know how things work around here. It’s all a mess. It’s not going to work.
Eric: It’s been one day, Shawn.
Still, Shawn claims he cannot get through these drills and auditions without someone he knows he can rely on there to keep things running. He needed someone who knows what they’re doing, so he called in for back up.
Before Eric can verbally ask for clarification, as if on cue ANGELA MOORE flurries into the office. She’s frazzled, wondering if everyone is okay. Shawn said there was an emergency. Eric rolls his eyes.
Eric: No, your grown man of a boyfriend is just a big baby.
Shawn clearly resents the implication, but Angela is totally lost. Eric gives her the quick rundown of the situation, also pointing out that this certainly won’t make Harper feel like her authority is being undermined.
Angela gives Shawn a disdainful look, but ultimately agrees to stick around for drills. It was nice to come back into the halls of AAA, surprisingly. So she’ll help where she can.
INT. AAA - HALLWAY - DAY
Charlie is at his locker, chatting with Haley and Clarissa. They tell him that they need to go get changed for drills, but they’ll see him in rehearsal. He nods them on their way, grabbing his things and getting ready to go himself.
But someone bumps into his locker and makes him drop his books, everything tumbling to the floor at their feet. Both of them immediately drop down to start picking things up, Charlie only lifting his head when the person apologizes.
It’s Zay. He offers another apology and helps collect the books, Charlie speechless for a second before assuring him it’s fine. They both rise back to their feet, Zay offering an awkward smile as he hands the books back to him.
His touch lingers. Charlie meets his eyes, and a tacit exchange passes between them. It’s hard to tell where they stand -- are they back to being acquaintances? Is this some kind of weird game? Or did they truly leave the summer on an uneven foot?
Either way, the tension of whatever kind is palpable. Zay says he’ll see him in class, passing him by and heading down the hall. Charlie takes a deep breath, closing his eyes and taking a moment before closing his locker.
EXT. AAA - DAY
Farkle makes his triumphant march back into school, returned to his former blazer glory… sort of. He’s nowhere near as put together as he was at the beginning of sophomore year, his hair barely combed and still all over the place. He looks more exhausted than impassioned, but he’s nothing if not dedicated to the dream.
Glaring up at the institution, he stomps up the steps and through the doors as the jaunty drill piano riff leads us in…
INT. AAA - AUDITORIUM - DAY
Song Cue ♫ ♪ “I Hope I Get It” as performed by A Chorus Line Original Broadway Cast || Performed by AAA Juniors (feat. Angela Moore)
Matching the frenzy of the Broadway classic, Angela leads the performing students through an intense and fast-paced routine for drills. The opening sequence alone feels like a true return to form, and from the get-go the sense is clear that everything is going to be heightened this season, especially the singing and dancing.
Farkle takes the first solo about “needing this job.” As the ballet combination sequence ensues, the section is split between the junior girls performing the dance and the techie crew each giving their “auditions.”
Jade displays some of the costume pieces she created for the shows in the past, as well as projects she worked on over the summer. Dylan enthusiastically plays his guitar, as well as giving an excited speech of some kind that involves a lot of jumping around. Asher sits on the edge of the stage and shows off set designs he did for the last four productions.
Nate coolly shrugs and clearly makes a point of wondering why they have to be doing this at all, yet still obliging. Jeff waves at them from the lighting booth, doing all the work. Dave haphazardly wields a power tool and gabs on about all the set building he does, Eric, Jack, and Harper ready to hide behind their notepads in self-defense just in case.
When Angela beckons the boys to come forward, Farkle takes center stage with Zay on his left and Charlie his right. Zay tosses a glare to Farkle, who gives him a snide look in return. Charlie glances to Zay. Then Angela counts them in, sending them on a tight, impressive run through of the complicated routine.
As the girls are beckoned back to join, Maya steps back up next to Farkle. They exchange derisive stares, before putting more energy into the routine than ever before. Riley is managing to keep up after a year at AAA, but Isadora is clearly struggling.
On the last verse, the junior class makes their way to the front of the stage. Each blare of the horn sends one of the main players dropping into a crouch and spinning away from the front (the students behind them following suit), until it’s just Charlie standing in the center.
He takes the delicate final solo (“Who am I anyway? Am I my resume?”), seemingly frozen in time against his fellow classmates. As he steps cautiously forward...

He sings the last line wistfully, staring out at the stage lights and emphatically declaring how much he wants to remain at AAA (“I need this job, oh God, I need this show…”). Seems like there will be much to explore with the resident prince charming this season…
INT. AAA - GIRLS DRESSING ROOM - DAY
All the girls are lamenting the drills, complaining about how dumb the whole reaudition process is. Isadora is so exhausted, she doesn’t even have the energy to join in. While everyone else is merely vexed, she has so much catching up to do. The pressure is definitely catching up to her.
Maya asks if she’s okay, but she states she’s just overwhelmed and needs some space and quiet for a bit. She respects this, backing off and heading out with the others.
Isadora paces the confines of the dressing room, but it’s not calming to her. It’s not her place. She changes tracks, going in search of a safer place.
INT. AAA - CATWALK - DAY
From the top of the catwalk, Isadora can be above it all for a moment again. Isolated, protected, back where she belongs. She settles onto the metal walkway and looks out towards the house, gazing towards the empty booth with its dark windows. Emptier than it should be.
Pulling out her phone, she goes to her message thread with Lucas. The last couple of texts have been her, asking where he is and if he’s coming to school. Unanswered.
Dissatisfied, Isadora opts to make a call instead. It goes to voicemail, which she clearly isn’t surprised by. She debates hanging up, then decides to wait for the beep to signal her message.
Isadora: Hey, it’s Dora. Again. Just wondering where the fuck you are and why you’re ghosting me? Or just ghosting in general, I guess. You need to come back, they’re doing this weird reaudition thing and if you don’t participate… I don’t know. I don’t know what’ll happen. But things are changing around here, and I don’t think you want to get left behind. I know how you hate that. Also… I need you here. I need you to come back, or at least tell me you’re okay. [ A beat, then in frustration. ] Mostly, I need you to answer your damn phone.
She hangs up, releasing an exhausted sigh. She tilts her head back against the rail, closing her eyes and settling into the quiet.
INT. AAA - BLACK BOX THEATER - DAY
Angela makes her way into the black box theater, exhaling a happy sigh as she steps back into her former domain. Shawn is on her heels, disrupting Harper as she continues to set up her classroom during lunch break.
Angela makes a point of introducing herself, obviously intending for no bad blood between the two women. Harper seems willing to meet her at that level, holding clear respect for her and commending her ability to handle this job so long and so well. But she shoots a pointed jab in Shawn’s direction, pointing out that a heads up about her arrival would’ve been nice.
It’s evident that Shawn and Harper are not going to make easy collaborators.
INT. AAA - HALLWAY - DAY
Farkle is heading to his locker, nearly running into Riley on the way. They make tentative eye contact, but when Farkle starts to say something she moves past him without allowing him the chance. The dismissal stings, especially from Riley, but he can’t very well blame her.
Facing his locker, he’s startled to find Maya there waiting for him, although her greeting is far from friendly. She glowers at him, questioning why he even bothered to come back.
Farkle: Oh, oh, sorry, was that Degrassi-style text you sent yesterday a butt dial? Was I not supposed to interpret “coward” as a challenge, or what other convoluted mixed message were you attempting to convey?
It’s clear that Maya doesn’t know what she wants from him either. She searches for something to say but comes up short, instead warning him to stay the hell out of her way before ramming into him as she storms past him. Farkle takes the hit, smiling sardonically and glancing over his shoulder to watch her go.
Once she’s gone, he opens his locker. It’s startling to see it as almost a time capsule from the year before, as he never bothered to clean it out after the fallout. Remnants of how things used to be are all over -- photos of him and Maya, mementos from the lighter parts of the school year, a playbill from Les Mis.
All of that, completely useless now. He remains passive, grabbing his books as the opening chords of his audition song fade in…
Song Cue ♫ ♪ “Dancing With Myself” as performed by Glee Cast || Performed by Farkle Minkus
Starting in the hallway by himself, Farkle kicks off his reaudition by sauntering through the halls on his own. He snaps his fingers as he wanders backwards through the hallway, lightly grooving to the beat as he carries us through the first third of the song.
INT. AAA - AUDITORIUM - DAY
Things take on a bit of a surrealist slant as Farkle transitions to the auditorium, now on the stage. Only he’s not alone -- the rest of the core students (Riley, Maya, Zay, Charlie, Isadora) are frozen on stage, almost like wax figures rather than themselves. He dances around them as he continues, emphasizing how he’s essentially being frozen out of their lives.
During the bridge, the others disappear as the lights go down on each of them. Eventually it’s just Farkle in the middle of the stage with a light shining down from directly above, casting him in shadow as he sings the last “Cause it’ll give me… time to think.”
INT. AAA - HALLWAY - DAY
As he rounds out the final chorus, Farkle is back in the hallway again on his way to class. He’s constantly overlooked or ignored as people pass him by, literally getting bumped into a couple of times without apology. He doesn’t even seem bothered, taking the stride with a blank, somewhat neutral smile on his face.
He disappears around a corner, focus shifting as Isadora catches up to Dylan and Asher outside the doors to the auditorium. She corners them both, claiming that she knows they know where Lucas is. They can’t bullshit her, although they weakly refute it.
Irritation aside, Isadora tells them that they better make sure he gets the message about the audition bullshit. Also, he should really fucking answer his phone.
Then, attempting to break the awkwardness, she asks how the techie side of things are going now that she’s spending her time with the performers. They assure her that all is well, nothing new, and she has to accept that. While it seems like nothing is going to change between Isadora and her former crew, there’s a lot of room for her absence to make waves…
INT. AAA - BLACK BOX THEATER - DAY
Farkle pokes his head in after school, swinging by to pick up the start of term paperwork he missed from Harper. They exchange more formal introductions, although it is clear neither of them are all that impressed by the other.
Harper comments on Farkle’s absence from the first day, insinuating that it doesn’t indicate great work ethic. She hopes he proves her wrong. He makes a flippant retort about how he didn’t realize illness was suddenly a punishable offense, and she is not pleased with it. If there’s a surefire way to start off on a bad foot, the two of them have found it.
INT. AAA - HALLWAY - DAY
As Farkle is making his way out, he runs into Angela. For the no good day he’s having, it’s honestly nice to see her again. Angela treats him just as warmly as she always did even in his worst moments, asking him how things are going and if he’s feeling better -- she heard he missed the first day.
He brushes off the concern, instead changing the subject to her Off-Broadway rehearsal process. She invites him to walk with her, the two of them heading down the hall as she starts to recount what the experience has been like.
It’s the most at peace Farkle has seemed since our return.
INT. CHUBBIE’S DINER - DAY
KATY HART is working hard behind the counter, but food is not her focus. She’s hunched over the countertop with a calculator, crunching the numbers on bills. Her expression conveys the distress she’s feeling over the ordeal. When Maya shows up, she frantically hides it all away, putting on her usual smile as her daughter hops up onto a stool at the counter to talk to her.
Maya spares a second to talk about the idiocy of the reaudition thing, offhandedly complains about Lucas’s obnoxious absence as well as Farkle’s infamous return, and then eagerly swaps topics. She explains this outing that she, Zay, Charlie, Izzy, and Yindra want to do next weekend. It costs some money -- not a lot, but worth noting -- so she’s wondering if she’ll be able to go. Can they afford it?
Despite what we saw earlier, Katy offers another loving smile and says they’ll figure it out. Seems Riley isn’t the only one dealing in denial.
EXT. LUCAS’S APARTMENT - DAY
On the opposite end of Manhattan, Isadora is marching down Lucas’s street. She buzzes herself into the shabby building.
INT. LUCAS’S APARTMENT - HALL - DAY
Once she reaches his apartment, it’s not him who answers the door, but rather GRACE FRIAR. She is tense, distracted as Isadora attempts to have a conversation with her about whether or not Lucas is home. She keeps checking over her shoulder, and she’s absentmindedly adjusting the collar of her blouse to make sure it’s covering her collarbone. Isadora has to keep bringing her focus back, pushing more and more as she appears to be more of a dead end.
After a certain point, she gives Isadora a warning look.
Grace: Lucas isn’t here. I think you should really get going.
The tone of her words is pretty hard to misunderstand, so Isadora takes heed and heads out. But she’s clearly frustrated, retreating with no more answers than before.
EXT. LUCAS’S APARTMENT - DAY
As Isadora descends the steps to the building, she finally makes a break through. She glances down the street just as LUCAS FRIAR is skulking back home, backpack on his shoulder although he clearly wasn’t at school.
They lock eyes, surprise and recognition coloring both of their features. Then Isadora sighs, expression shifting to a frustrated glare.
EXT. TOMPKINS SQUARE PARK - DAY
Lucas and Isadora have relocated to the park a couple of blocks from his apartment. She sits cross-legged on a picnic table bench while he sits on the ground with his knees pulled up, not looking at her as he rips blades of grass.
For what it’s worth, he doesn’t seem to have changed much since we last saw him. But considering the state that was, broken down in the booth, that’s not necessarily a good thing. He’s in his usual dark ensemble and sporting a snapback, black with a deep blue band. He has a brace on his left wrist, and although the reason why remains unstated, it goes without saying it’s probably not great.
Isadora is filling the silence, methodically explaining the reaudition process with far more detail than Lucas wants or needs. She starts to discuss how he’s going to need to throw something together, but he interrupts by tersely stating that he told her not to come to his apartment.
She fires back, acknowledging that agreement but claiming its null and void when he decides to drop off the fucking face of the Earth. He wasn’t answering her messages or calls. She didn’t know what else to do, or what to think. The reasons he doesn’t want her over are the exact reasons she had to come check that he was simply being a jackass rather than something worse.
Isadora: Look, I get… I get wanting to avoid everything. I get wanting space, you know I do. But to go completely off the grid is a whole other thing, and then [ with a scoff ] to keep Asher and Dylan in the loop and not me? The tweedledum and tweedledummer of our crew?
Lucas: [ warningly ] Hey, don’t --
Isadora: I’m sorry. I’m sorry, but that’s insane. That’s bullshit.
Lucas: Well you wouldn’t have wanted to know what we were up to anyway, so.
Isadora claims that’s not the point, the conversation dead-ending again. Silence settles over them. Finally, Isadora sighs.
Isadora: You cannot just ghost like that. You know what people suddenly disappearing does to me, Lucas.
Lucas: … I know. I’m sorry.
[ Another pointed silence. He still won’t look at her. She shakes her head. ]
Isadora: Listen, I’m sorry that things didn’t work out the way you wanted them to. I’m sorry shit sucks. It does. And I know you’re pissed about McCullough, but are you really going to blow the only other option you have? [ a beat ] More than that, are you really going to let Farkle Minkus have the last word?
Nothing is more powerful a motivator than spite, as Farkle himself can attest. Now that seems to spark something in Lucas. Not necessarily a good spark, but it’s better than nothing.
INT. AAA - JACK’S OFFICE - DAY
Eric swings by Jack’s office the next morning to confer, only to discover he’s not alone. He accidentally walks in on Jack exchanging a goodbye kiss with his new girlfriend, ANNE MARIE WINTHROP (38). She’s fair-haired, rather pretty, and carries herself with an air of composure and authority that Jack himself puts out.
Eric profusely apologizes but Jack waves him off, quickly introducing the two. Anne Marie accepts Eric’s hand shake, the latter nervously stumbling into a goofy greeting.
Eric: Anne Marie. Oh. Two names for the price of one, huh? Good deal!
Jack makes a face, obviously wondering why his usually tactful counselor is being so weird. Anne Marie takes it in stride, claiming he’s no bother at all and that she was just heading out. She confirms with Jack that he’ll meet her at the office for dinner, then gives them both a wave farewell. Seems like a lovely gal!
Jack asks Eric what he’s got, and he explains that the auditions are going relatively well given that the students absolutely hate them. He’s more unsettled by what he’s observed of the Shawn and Harper dynamic, as he has no idea how that partnership is going to fare without Angela there to smooth things over.
Jack defends his hiring of Harper, and both of them agree that transitions like these mostly just take time to set. The other news Eric has is much more pertinent and promises some real potential friction.
Because guess who’s back and ready to thrash...
INT. AAA - AUDITORIUM - DAY
The class has assembled, there to witness Lucas’s grand return to AAA. He’s standing center stage, a covered object placed on a couple of acting blocks beside him.
He first gives a small speech about how this whole audition process is bullshit and made specifically to punish a subsection of the class, so it’s not fair that he and the techies have to go through the motions.
Lucas: But then, when has anyone ever cared about the techies? This seems just about typical. I’d refuse to do it in protest, especially considering I’m the only multi-faceted technician aside from Dora and it would truly be a self-inflicted bullet wound if they expelled me...
Maya: God, if only.
Lucas: But I’ve already orchestrated one school-wide revolt, so whatever, I’ll play along.
Thusly, Lucas removes the tarp from his project, revealing a scaled-down diorama of the auditorium featuring little replicas the typical AAA junior class. A production design / tactile display, in a sense.
Nigel: Oh my God, you made little voodoo dolls.
Maybe so, Nigel. Maybe so. He also has commentary to go with the presentation, and suffice to say, it’s far from tame.
Lucas: So here’s Hart standing center stage and soaking up all the spotlight. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the time to add vocal tracks -- actually, I just didn’t care -- so just imagine a cat screeching bloody murder and you’ll get the full effect.
Maya looks like she’s about to commit murder. Isadora grimaces.
Lucas: This is Dave over here -- he’s holding pizza even though we’re not supposed to eat in the auditorium.
Dave: [ touched ] He knows me so well. :’)
The techies are far more amused by the whole thing than the performers. Charlie leans forward, squinting to get a better look.
Charlie: Do I not have a face?
Lucas: Oh, do you not? [ glancing to check ] Well. That can’t be a subconscious message, can it?
Once he’s run the full gamut, one creative choice becomes pointedly clear.
Darby: Where’s Riley?
Lucas: Oh.
[ Lucas glances at the diorama where she is clearly left out. Then he looks right at her, completely deadpan. ]
Lucas: Guess I forgot her.
Yikes. Riley tries not to let it get to her. She chews her lip, maintaining a neutral expression.
INT. AAA - CAFETERIA - DAY
Farkle faces the lunch room shuffle, pausing by the entrance and scanning for where to plant himself. He eyes his former table where Maya, Zay, and Riley are currently situated… and opts to go in the other direction given the way Maya is glaring at him.
He takes an isolated seat at the other end of the table where Clarissa, Haley, and Darby are chatting. They’re discussing how much it’s going to suck now that Isadora is joining the ranks of the performers, as she’ll likely eat up any of the slim chances they had at getting good solos. Farkle is shocked by this news.
Farkle: I’m sorry, what?
Haley: Um, eavesdrop much?
Farkle: Smackle is joining our class? You can’t be serious.
Darby: That’s what happens when you miss the first day. Miss all the new developments.
Clarissa: Why do you even care, Farkle? It’s not like she’s really a threat for a tenor.
Haley: Oh, he doesn’t care about that. He’s just worried she’ll beat him out for other opportunities since he’s determined himself the most deserving.
Farkle rolls his eyes, suddenly not at all interested in eating. He seems more perturbed by this development than he maybe should be, but it’s not clear why.
Haley: Just don’t make another tantrum video, okay?
Clarissa: Yeah, we’ve had enough drama for a lifetime thanks to you.
He shoots them a glare, getting to his feet. He tosses his lunch without eating it, marching out of the cafeteria.
EXT. AAA - LUNCH COURTYARD - DAY
The techie table seems to be mostly back in order with Lucas back in their ranks. All seems to be well and good again… until Jade makes the mistake of innocently asking Isadora what her reaudition song is going to be. Lucas is disturbed by the notion.
Lucas: Why are you performing? You know you don’t have to do that, right? You can do something else. They can’t make you perform.
Isadora: … yes, I know. The thing is --
Before Isadora can break the news, Yindra interrupts. She pulls that Hermione-Granger-I’m-not-an-owl nonsense, and poorly delivers a message of Maya that it would be smart for all of them to attend her reaudition after lunch.
Yindra: I was chosen as the best representative to come bearing the… holy gospel… that Maya intends to knock all of our socks… no, she said something about water too --
Asher: Aren’t you an actor? You’re supposed to be good at memorizing stuff.
Yindra: Not when it’s nonsense.
Lucas: Get on with it, Yindra.
Yindra: Basically, Maya wants you all there for her reaudition. Specifically.
Nate: [ with a snort ] Why? As if we care about Broadway Barbie’s five hundredth solo?

Aside from an absolute bop and an impressive display of vocal chops, the things that Maya intends to say with her reaudition become pretty clear. She’s back with renewed fire as promised, and the number serves as a big “fuck you” to everyone who has wronged her or is pissing her off.
Namely, Lucas and Farkle. Maya basically sings the line “I know it’s hard to see me on when you’ve been off as hell / But I’m not gonna dull myself because you dull yourself” directly to Lucas, shrugging him off and flipping her hair over her shoulder with a flourish.
While it’s an undeniable good show and such a banger, and a majority of the class seems to be enjoying it, Farkle looks miserable. He slouches in his seat, gritting his teeth.

His motivations seem pretty transparent, and Isadora doesn’t hesitate to tell him to take a hike. She’s got enough doubt surrounding this decision, she doesn’t need him to echo it too just so he doesn’t have to have a little more competition. Still, certain things he says to try and convince her hint that maybe his intentions are more complex than they seem.
Farkle: Think about it. You hate the performers. You hate the way we act, how selfish we are, how nothing matters but the spotlight. Do you really want to dive right into the middle of that shallow pool?
Isadora: That’s funny, coming from you.
Farkle: Exactly. [ a beat ] Do you really want to end up like me?
There’s a chilling thought. Isadora hesitates, matching his glare… but no. She’s not taking any shit. Isadora is done letting people dictate which direction she’s allowed to go, and she’s not letting anyone stop her -- least of all Farkle Minkus.

He’s going on and on about how ridiculous the whole process is, making fun of the “we’ll let you know” tomfoolery of it all. It seems as though he’s just thinking out loud… until someone else joins in the exchange, jokingly stating that it would be “bananas” for them to kick him out, and he knows it. Zay cracks a smile, glancing at his reflection before looking over his shoulder…
At Charlie, seated cross-legged on his bed and watching him nitpick himself. He looks relaxed, far more comfortable and natural than we’ve seen him thus far. He props his chin on his hands, looking Zay over before raising his eyebrows to accent the point.
Given the way they banter back and forth about the auditions, it’s clear that Zay and Charlie now have a familiar rapport. Zay saunters over and settles down onto the bed next to him, nudging him playfully and leaning in rather close. Charlie doesn’t seem at all shaken by the proximity, nausea a long-forgotten side effect.
Zay alludes to how they spent a majority of the summer together after his return from Kossal, clarifying some of the gaps in their development.
Charlie: If I think you’re still worth keeping around after three months, I don’t see how they would get rid of you after three years.
Zay: Well, to be fair, the... talents that I’m sharing with you are a little more convincing than my dancing.
[ Charlie makes a face, scrunching his nose. Zay gasps in faux offense. ]
Zay: Are you shading my romantic prowess? [ at Charlie’s shrug ] Or do you just really love dance.
Charlie: [ grinning ] I think I just really love dance. But uh… [ glancing at his lips ] show me again what I’m judging?
Zay smirks, leaning forward to give him a kiss. The moment lingers, Charlie smiling in spite of himself.
Charlie: Oh, yeah. Right. That’s pretty good.
Zay: Uh-huh, yeah, sure.
The two of them kiss again, descending into laughter as they fall back against the mattress. The long and short of it is crystal clear -- Zay and Charlie are officially together.

It’s clear neither of them are all that keen about the situation.
Finally being heard, Riley laments how stupid this whole situation is. She explains that she never meant to hurt anybody, especially considering the thing wasn’t even her words, and especially not Lucas.
Riley: You both know I was never… it wasn’t fake. Not for me. You guys have to know that.

She trails off, able to tell from their expressions that they’re not going to be much help. They believe her, but it’s not their opinion that makes a difference. Even if they did tell him what she just told them -- if they haven’t already -- there’s little chance it would make a difference.
Still, they seem genuinely sympathetic. Asher reaches out and touches her arm, frowning.

Isadora: Is that what this is about? Seriously? [ off his shrug ] I’m … I’m going to do both. You can do both.
Lucas: [ with a snort ] Okay.
When she pushes him on it, he brings up all of the contrary arguments to the decision that she’s been trying to ignore. The piss poor track record of the collective performer attitude. The cut-throat nature. The fact that she has no proper training and is leagues behind, which is only going to make her more overwhelmed.
When he brings up Valerie, it’s a bridge too far.
Lucas: Or what about how your mom literally dumped you because she cared more about the spotlight than raising her child? And you really want to follow in those footsteps --
Isadora, snapping: So you don’t speak to me for days, and now you’re offering your input? Now you think it’s cool to just waltz back in and say whatever the fuck you want?
A harsh dig, but a valid one. Lucas backs off, obviously unprepared for her sharp reaction. Both of them end up back under silence, not sure what to say next. Their exchange is softer when they speak again.
Lucas: I didn’t… I’m just looking out for you.
Isadora: I know.

Zay climbs his way up to the prop loft, startling Riley. She’s curled up by the shelf of set decor pieces, crying and growing embarrassed once she realizes she’s been caught. She starts to wipe her eyes and make up an excuse but Zay doesn’t harp on it, simply walking over and settling down next to her.
Riley: [ wiping her eyes, huffing ] Sorry.
Zay: What are you apologizing to me for? I’m the one who disrupted your space.
Riley laughs a little, even though nothing is funny. Zay doesn’t pressure her, but he’s there. Available to talk, if she wants to talk.
After a bout of quiet, Riley explains that this situation is harder for her than it probably should be. She states that this whole experience is reminiscent of things she’s already been through, going on to confide in Zay that reason she transferred to Adams in sophomore year was because of the intense bullying she endured at her former school.
Riley: Don’t get me wrong, I’d still much rather be here. And the situations aren’t really all that similar. But the feeling… going back to being isolated because of something that really doesn’t have anything to do with me, just because, it’s --
Zay: Just because it’s marginally better doesn’t make this experience hurt any less.
Riley could certainly use the validation. She nods, wiping her eyes with her sleeve.
Zay notes that he’s no stranger to bullying, growing up Black and queer. But he reassures Riley that he’s going to be there for her -- she’s not isolated. She’s not going through it alone. Everything else can fall apart, but he’s not going anywhere.
Riley smiles, nodding gratefully. Zay puts his arm around her and she leans into his shoulder, the two of them taking in the peace and allowing it to hurt. Letting the hurt happen, before they have to rebuild again.
INT. AAA - ERIC’S OFFICE - DAY
The faculty five are assembled in Eric’s office, discussing the auditions and how they want to maneuver where things go from here on out. None of them are getting cut, of course, but they need to decide how to effectively get the message across with the announcement that that doesn’t mean there’s a free pass for more bullshit.
Case in point, Jack reiterates the point that they are lucky to be here. All of them are, and that’s what he wants this whole experiment to drive home. They had to fight for their spot again, and they should remember to cherish how privileged they are to have these opportunities even when things get tense.
INT. AAA - AUDITORIUM - DAY
So that’s the message Harper delivers when she informs the assembled junior class that no one will be getting asked to leave. They all stand together on the stage as she gives a heartwarming speech about how lucky they all are to be in this position, and she hopes they remember that as they move through the challenges of this year. It’s a moving argument.
This sentiment goes over less smoothly in execution, however, as the juniors are pissed that the whole thing was just some elaborate mind game that they exerted time and energy towards. The jabs thrown around escalate, until somehow it all comes back to blaming Farkle for how the entire thing is his fault because of his stupid meltdown video.
Finally having had enough, Farkle snaps. He essentially gives a live show of the aforementioned meltdown, railing about how it’s bullshit that he’s getting the blame for everything when they’re all just as bitter and petty as he is. Sure, he sent in the video and yes, he shouldn’t have said the things he did, but all of them also submitted rude posts about one another. They all sent in bullshit for their own selfish reasons -- whether to tear down someone else or prop themselves up. Charlie casts a nervous glance to Riley, who avoids eye contact with him.
Harper is unimpressed with Farkle’s tirade, but she’s even more overwhelmed with how to bring this trainwreck back on track. Angela takes the reins instead, stepping forward and attempting to rally home Jack’s point that they should all feel lucky to be here.
Song Cue ♫ ♪ “Show People” as performed by Curtains Original Broadway Cast || Performed by Jack Hunter & Angela Moore (feat. AAA Juniors) (starting at 00:30)
[ Lyrics specific to characters -- follow along here! ]
Specifics of the situation modified, Angela covers the opening bit of the song in essentially trying to guilt and bully the junior class into realizing they’re being ridiculous.
When she claims the show must go on and they call horseshit, Jack steps up to take the soapbox. He elaborates how not only are they lucky to be here, they’re lucky to be performers at all. People all around the world wish they were in their shoes, people would kill to be where they are right now with all this talent and opportunity at their fingertips. Surrounded by other talented, passionate people. Doing what they love.
Of course, it’s appealing to that intrinsic love of the art that starts to win people over. First Angela and Jack carry the song, but then students begin to join in. Nigel, then Yindra. Yogi has the bad joke about tree surgeons.
For once, it’s clear that the junior class is having fun again. It’s also the first taste we’re getting of the full ensemble at work, the techies participating in the performance just as much as the rest. This season Harper said there would be more crossover, and that promise will indeed hold true!
About five minutes in, the performers come together in a kick line and declare that they are, in fact, show people. There’s a sense of unity for the first time all season, this rooted passion unlike any other that ties all of them together in spite of everything else.
As Angela takes the last few “and on” notes, she dances with a few key groups. Charlie and Zay are standing together in a half-circle with Yindra and Nigel, exchanging a playful look with Angela as she sings with them. Then she flutters over to the techie crew, pulling them back into the number with a flourish.
On the final, climactic repetition of the chorus, the entire ensemble is up on stage participating. Yes, all of them. As they march towards the front of the stage, Angela leading the charge, she makes one final definitive stomp that sends us smashing to black.
This is it! Round 2!
END OF EPISODE.
