abyss season finale thoughts & overall remaining questions

- i loved the drama, but i feel that the ending was rushed and had a few plot holes - which honestly is probably attributed to the “rookie” script writer. not the fault of the actors, who all did an absolutely amazing job.

- that last episode definitely had me sobbing for a good bit. i literally skipped ahead to see where min returned and set a timer for myself so i could bear with how much suffering i had left...

- i love park boyoung so honestly id enjoy anything with her in it, and ahn hyo seop was to die for. the casting choices were hella on point. (dongcheol became one of my fave characters, ngl.)

- the soundtrack for the whole show was amazing! i 100% support having suran on any ost.

- ok what the fuck happened to heejin tho? she ran jiuk the fuck over, probably shouldve been in legal trouble, was left out of most of the finale, and then suddenly appeared to be living alone in the country?? what the fuck was that??

- min���s return made almost no sense, even with the explanation given. how did the old man have all of those abyss orbs? who was he, anyway? HOW DID HE REVIVE MIN WITH THE ORBS IF MIN HAD NO BODY?

- what the fuck did min’s mom do for three years while her son was GONE? why didn’t we get a mother-son reunion?

- what exactly was park giman’s relationship to judge seo?

- it REALLY fucking sucked that heejin’s mom’s body was just fucking thrown into the water in a suitcase and never seen again. it was honestly hella fucked up and i had trouble watching it - which says a lot, bc im not easily disturbed.

- what was the overall motive of oh taejin/seo jiuk and oh yeongcheol? other than covering up the fact that yeongcheol was a serial killer? it was never really clear as to WHY they were so driven to be the bad guys.

- overall, i think the drama wouldve been better received if the plot was written out more fluidly. there were a ton of lulls in the plot that could’ve been fleshed out to prevent ending the story with so many unanswered questions.

- i appreciated the subtle parallels to strong woman do bong soon. seeing seyeon at her desk in chamin’s office was such a cute reminder. idk if that was intentional or not though.

- honestly, the fucking romance scenes and chemistry between park boyoung and ahn hyo seop were A+++++. super well done, i love me some fluff uwu

- MAJOR ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM FOR ME: YALL REMEMBER THAT RANDOM ASS REAPER MAN FROM THE FIRST EPISODE THAT TURNED INTO A FUCKING DOG????? WHY DID WE GET NO EXPLANATION FOR THAT AT ALL???? WHO IS HE AND WHY WAS HE A DOG????

- i think they shouldve had one more episode.. that way we couldve had more questions answered.. and maybe we couldve seen chamin and seyeon get married too??

- i just wanna know how revealing that go seyeon was still alive and NO LONGER MURDERED didnt affect taejin’s imprisonment.

- how did seyeon go from prosecutor to attorney so easily? is that honestly even possible? they made it seem like a simple title change.

- seyeon’s outfits were always adorable, and chamin looked great in everything. the costuming was fire.

- seeing dongcheol and all of his coworkers running around & busting people without any uniform on was hilarious.

- the abyss itself was never properly or fully explained. its existence was a giant question mark to me. if youre gonna title a show after it, why wasnt more thought put into how it worked?

i fucking love her!! her vocie, her singing, her anatomy, her plot, her animation, her bounce, everything!!

when steven keeps trying to sing to her and convince her she can change and she keeps attacking!! such a good villain

she doenst let stuff get to her so easily, only thing i dont like is when garnet goes from cotton candy to normal and she freezes, she was already attacking and knew what she was doing so she shouldve kept attacking

sure she mightve been kinda shocked by it but she saw steven and instantly attacked him in like the same scene, she shouldve been able to keep attacking garnet as well

also she doesng monologue!! good job!! she let steven monologue tho, bad choice

she was such a good villain that she accomplished what she wanted to, she made all that bad juice go into the earth, she poofed the gems and made them forget everything, she did what she wanted

the ending? ehh, i wish she kept the form but switched her gem to be the right side up, yknow?

i mean she learned to love again so wouldnt t make sense her gem was the right way up? still keeping her present form tho

if she was gonna notice she was doing bad shit why only notice after executing the entire plan

but back to loving her!!

she literally had the message on loop, im assuming while she was building the extractor or whatever its called (and ive had her song on loop while writing this)

also i got the feeling shes sadistic(not in a secual way) from the first fight scene, laughing snd smiling while slashing at steven and poofing tthe gems, and even when she gets poofed! she’s still laughing insanely!! i love it for some reason

also when she gets a mad and shes still laughing and smiling, especially when she says “on this nowhere planet with a bunch of nobodies!”

i dont get how people saw her and thought “hmm yes i will hate this new villain” like bitch i saw her and instantly knew i was gonna love her

i love her singing a lot too!! when she goes gravely or very soft, when she can go very loud or quiet, low or high, i love her voice range!!

in Other Friends when she says the “what did she say about me?”, it’s literally relatable, i mean if somebody left you for a while you would want to know what they said about you

i want a spinel poster if there ever is one

dont @ me but she has the best plot/story/whatever/character development in the whole show

also movie related stuff:

gregs arm is fucking gone, i mean that shits gone like hell, its fucking grey

the human arm cannot function without connecting to a muscle in the chest, so therefore steg has four chest whatever the fuck theyre called (titties lol)

garnet is officially gay, they got the rings now

all my friends were scared when steg appeared and i was actually laughing my ass off, i almost fell out of my chair multiple times

the movie itself was kinda rushed?? like the story kinda went quickly but whatever

i love he fighting scene on the retracter!! injected!! whatever the fuck!! the harsh shading for the dramatic effect is awesome!! the animation style changes a bit but it made that scene better!!

alright lets get some more collected thoughts out here

im still a little scatter brained but i wanted to get something at least somewhat more cohesive out before the night is over lol

- predicted ways to be wicked to be a dream sequence. check and mate. - i cant?? entirely remember what my thought was as far as why mal was blonde but i think i was right? that she dyed it to yknow fit in better? - ofc not a fan of forced heteronormative relationships but janelos had its moments i must admit. like, if i had to take it or leave it, id leave it, but it didnt have me cringing and rolling my eyes the whole time, yknow? - ok guys. go easy on me. but some of you know that im that ass who holds dog with a blog as one of their favorite shows of all time. im a sucker for that kind of stuff, always have been. so i was all over dude talking. im now aware im probably the only one who feels that way but oh well lol. and i thought it was bobby moynihan at first but wasnt sure? but then lo and behold lol. im glad they got a somewhat big name, and i really like his voice work so. - i knew id love the new VKs but i loved them even more than i expected. uma was a badass as anticipated. harry was so loud and crazy i loved him. and gil is my son omg?? im always a sucker for the big burly boys who happen to be sweet little idiots. and dylan was super cool when i met him at the RDMAs, shouldve known id end up loving his character. - chad is such a douche and he made me laugh so much lol. and you go audrey drop his ass lmao. - the whole thing with lonnie was great. glad to see her get more screen time, especially given that it fit in with her heritage and wasnt just random yknow. i loved everything about her plotline, and i liked that any romance between her and jay was subtle and implied. i can handle that. - beyond just that, we had a lot of lesser seen interactions, like between ben and evie and jay and mal. liked those a lot. - its very intriguing to see each VKs different feelings towards the isle. the part where evie made ben promise her she wouldnt have to stay there really struck me deep. she and mal have different histories there, so its understandable that they have different attachments to it. - as is common consensus, dizzy is adorable and im so happy she (and other isle kids it seems) are gonna have a chance to go to auradon prep. - dove got me hyped for a very layered, insecure, developed mal and naturally, she delivered. i think she had a very real relatable story and i really liked that. - in mal’s story and in others, there were some deeper implications that i found really interesting. like how uma said beast was the one who trapped them all there when really the children are innocent. sure this was addressed in the first movie but this gave us a chance to think about it a bit more. i also liked the message of “you dont have to be one thing or another, you can be a mix of whatever you want” i thought that was pretty original and creative?? and could be interpreted as a metaphor for gender/sexuality (among other parts of the movie). - a lot of people are saying the pacing was bad and i can kinda agree to some extent but at the same time i watched it with commercials and thats the first time ive watched a new disney show or movie with commercials (save for one gmw ep that id already seen at a taping anyway) in a year and a half so that kinda threw me off. plus i had to watch it on lifetime which i think had more ads than DC did. - one thing that did confuse me tho was mal’s decision process of where to stay or where not to as the movie went on. like she just...went back to auradon without even thinking about it (but i guess that was to escape uma, and then jay offering to take her back kinda balanced that out). but her official decision to stay was a bit...confusing to me?? - okay yah so dragon mal is something ive been dreaming of for who knows how long and i never genuinely hoped for or even expected it to happen in canon so the fact that it did made me RIDICULOUSLY HAPPY. (im a slut for dragons for those who dont know). and i also hoped for uma to go full ursula which she did so that was awesome. - even tho i knew this earlier this week, the soundtrack is baller. its going down is my fav. chillin like a villain is a bop. space between....is gay. its all great. - im a SLUT for parallels so any parallels to the first movie were a plus for me - long awaited bal kiss yay!!! and more than one no less!! - oh!! and of course!!! dove is adorable/flaming hot/angry angsty baby all at the same time look at my girl go

so all in all, it gave me a ton of things i wanted, some of which i didnt even expect to get, raised the stakes, built on the characters and added some great new ones, had fantastic music and dancing, payed homage to the original movie but also made it its own, and overall was a super fun exciting ride! sure it had a few issues here and there, but thats to be expected of a DCOM. what matters most to me is that i love this franchise and i had a fantastic time watching this new installment.
