Dear trans people (mostly directed to transfems)

Because there is a disproportionately high ratio of transfems to any other gender on the internet, sometimes it can feel other issues get drowned out, like the frighteningly high amount of SA/rape cases against transmascs, or the blatant discrimination of intersex people in alot of communities (even the trans ones!!!) or the rigid enforcement of this whole skinny androgynous elf stereotype being pushed on the nonbinary gender(s), or the predatory marketing of chest binders to ignorant people with breasts, or a myriad of other issues that i see go ignored a concerning amount of times. Yes, transfem issues are real issues that need to be addressed, yes TERFS and bathroom bills and sports and other things are problematic for transfems but they arent only problematic for transfems. Intersex and non binary people are also seen as problematic in the eyes of transphobes, transmascs compete in the wrong gender because people refuse to accept who they are, basically all of the community is fetishized. These problems are real and encompass the uphill struggle some trans people face (including transfems) to even have their existence and humanity acknowledged. The only way to win in this sick and twisted fame that is public perception, we need to stand as a community, which means respecting one another’s needs and listening.

Also a more specific issue: When knowingly commenting on someone who is trans, and saying something like “omg i wish i had your body your [body part] is/looks so [traditionally masculine, feminine, and/or androgynous feature]” directed at someone trying to transition out of said gender (for example a transfem commenting on a transmasc “oh my god i wish i had your body your hair is so long and femme and your hips are so effeminate” can be extremely dysphoria inducing, as pointing out an effeminate part of someone trying to become a man and vice-versa can hurt on a visceral level, a notion that you wont change and youre just what your body is. This is not to say transmascs must only be big strong hairy dudebros, be whatever the fuck you want, be a god damn 1:1 human replica of a fucking pokemon for all i care. Imagine someone walked up to a transfem and said “omg i love your shoulders theyre so broad and manly” that’s not okay right? (my previous statement about style also applies to transfems)

Hey everybody! I'm a pro battler, currently in my 'on' season after taking an extended break, although tight at the moment I'm at home.

I tend to go by a lot of different names for personal reasons, but you can call me Laser! If we include my break, I've been battling for TWENTY YEARS THIS YEAR (wow!) but honestly I've been around trainers and battle-trained 'mon my entire life.

The games that are canon to Laser's life are Ruby, Platinum, SoulSilver, and Black! I'm definitely counting other games as having 'happened' but Laser did not live through them, and only sort of knows what went down.

Laser has defeated the Elite 4 in those games, but takes pains to disguise itself in each new region it takes the challenge in, to avoid too much publicity. However, after beating the league, it doesn't care to maintain the disguise, leading to being kind of a famous cryptid type character.

Because of this, it will be cagey about its life, but may let things slip accidentally!

As a side note, I want to play the emotional ramifications of the events of those games somewhat seriously! Laser was in therapy for a good long while, both because of said events and also a tragedy that occurred at some point which it was struggling to cope with.

I don't wanna expound too much on its backstory yet, but I will keep record of anything discovered here for ease of access to newcomers! Feel free to poke a bit at it, but please keep in mind it will react like a real person!

pelipper mail is off while Laser is traveling, but on while at home, magic anons are always off, but musharna mail? I think is crazy funny so that is ON. Mystery gift is tentatively on, will make a concrete decision once I catch the vibe better. Union Circle is sooooo on!

Okay so kiawren lore! I think I've said it before somewhere but Im lazy to find it so I'll just say everything again

Idk if you've played the games (but anyway it's not important for you to know) but my s/i Wren doesn't follow the MC's story in the games. He's an aspiring conservationist who goes to alola on a study/research/outreach conservation programme for a few months. Becuz alola's inspiration is Hawaii irl and although I wouldn't go as a tourist irl it's nice to dream that I could go somewhere so uniquely biodiverse and help out in conservation which is also literally my ambition so when I selfship in that role it makes me happy...

Wren meets kiawe when they visit Wela volcano park one day to find a nice spot to view the sunset. Honestly the meeting lore is not fixed lol. Kiawe does his trial captain duties at the top of the volcano and he was done with his duties for the day and going to head down the volcano for his canon night job at the supermarket when he sees wren and is wondering who is up here when the sky is getting so dark plus some graveler (a pokemon) specifically happened to block some of the paths that day lol idk. So becuz he felt he has a duty to look after the people and pokemon he wanted to accompany wren down cuz the paths are rocky. And then wren is like but I want to see the sunset he's like ok fine I know the best places to see it follow me. Okay so that was the first meeting

Subsequently wren just meets Kiawe at the volcano increasingly often, from like twice a week to 5 times a week to every day. Also wren's conservation thing is mainly on akala island (out of the 4 total islands in alola) which is also where Kiawe is from, and one of their research tasks was on the volcano so they met and talked and usually kiawe isn't super fond of foreigners he thought wren was some tourist but finding out he's doing some conservation thing he found it nice.

Yeah so they just got to know each other more and wren develops a crush first. For what draws me into him...

He studies traditional dances from his culture and hopes to study abroad and fulfil this passion of his, which is why he has that night shift at the supermarket but he also got laid off from it in canon 😭 And when you find out about it he says "it seems like nothing ever goes right..." and asks to battle you and says this after like ARRRRGHHHH

Like I just want to be able to encourage him that he cna achieve his dreams becuz he's one of the most hardworking and passionate people ever like he deserves everything

Also this, it's directly implying Kiawe is a romanticist becuz you get this Reverent battle style after battling him

And like it's so heartwarming to know this guy who has like a stoic exterior has sentiments like this, I'm honestly similar in this way that we're both sorta idealists. So I would like to sit him with and talk about our ambitions together especially becuz even though my primary interest is the natural world, culture is also my second biggest interest and for him it's the other way round.

Also in another game he said that other people don't really like his intensity, but his two friends Mallow and Lana don't mind, and thanks the player for also not minding. And his dad also said he's always been quite lonely and it's nice to see the MC be friends with him like 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 kiawe's such a genuine person but not the best at social interactions but when you get to know him I think he can be so generous and caring and humble and a great person to share your dreams with and achieve them together.

Also since he's a fire type pokemon trainer I associate him with red, fire, heat and the sun cuz he's so central to my world and a huge motivation and a person I can admire so much, so when I listen to music and read poems and stuff it's fun to find themes like this and think of my love for him Yes 😁

I’m sorry to bother you with a question like this, but may I ask how you went about putting this bracket together? I’m trying to figure out my own addition to this showdown bandwagon and am also working with a large roster of characters. Jumping in blind would be a disaster, so I thought it best to seek guidance from someone who’s got a solid approach going.

I can definitely summarize what I did! Though without knowing what you're working with, I'm not sure how much this will map onto anything else!

1) Organizing Matches by the Numbers

So I split up the 1000+ Pokemon into more manageable groups by doing them by Generation, which technically means that I'm just running 9 100+ competitor brackets.

Then, for each generation, I targeted ~high 20s, low 30s for my number of matches with 3-5 Pokemon in each match. I wouldn't exceed 5 in a match, and lower is ideal, when you're trying to figure out how this works for your numbers.

Now, I targeted that number of matches because I wanted to use the next round to force-fit it into better tournament numbers— A nice proper 1v1 tournament has power of 2 competitors, so 2, 4, 8, 16, etc... It simplifies the math and makes it easier, and that's something that I chose for my tournament to avoid Pokemon "skipping" rounds, but you don't have to follow that.

So I will be targeting 8 Pokemon going to round 3 out of round 2, so if we take the number of round 1 winners from Gen 1 for example, there are 31 of them. 31/8=3.875 which means 7 4-Pokemoj matches and 1 3-Pokemon match. Perfect. Run those matches, get your 8 winners, pit your 8 winners against each other in the typical 1v1 tournament style (4 matches), get your 4 winners, etc.

2) Organizing Competitors into Matches

This part is super messy and the actual proper way to do seeding is probably via pre-tournament polling and also by having 1v1 matches, so what I did was the nearest reasonable approximation, given time and effort requirements.

The process: Put all your competitors in a spreadsheet column. Go through the list and bold all the fan favorites, all of the ones you expect to win, etc. Shuffle the column. If the top n(*) competitors look okay for a matchup (ideally, only one bolded name), mark it as (probably) acceptable (I changed the cell colors), and move to the next match. If not, shuffle again. (You'll probably have to do this a lot. However, if just a few of of them are messing up the match, you can move them to the bottom of the match stack and just shuffle them into the remaining competitors.) By the time you get to the bottom, you will very likely have to move things around or break up previously acceptable matches to get the last ones fitting.

(*) n is the target number of competitors in a match.

Note I chose this method specifically because I wanted my own biases to impact the match sorting as little as possible. It's worked out most of the time, sometimes there were fan favorites I completely didn't anticipate. Again, not a perfect system, but it prevents stuff like having Bulbasaur and Eevee in the same round 1 match.

(And sometimes you can't avoid having more than one fan favorite in the same match. In those cases, you want to try your best to pair most-fan-favorites with considerably less fan favorites, but this is also where smaller match sizes do come in handy. 1 5-competitor match allows for 1 fan favorite in 5 competitors, while 2 3-competitor matches allow for 2 fan favorites in 6 competitors... But again it's messy and you can't anticipate everything and sometimes there are a lot of fan favorites.)

(One more thing, Google Sheets does let you randomize a selected range if you right click on it, which can save you time running back and forth between random.org.)

3) Rematches

Personally I think if you want good data in a 3+ competitor winner-take-all kind of situation, you have to run rematches. Say 40% of people like competitor A, 30% of people like competitor B, and the remaining 30% are spread out among competitors C, D, and E. competitor A would win without rematches, but it could very much be the case that of the latter 30% of voters, if their picks were eliminated, only 5% would vote for competitor A, and the remaining 25% would vote for competitor B. That would leave us with 45/55 in B's favor.

Anyway, you can do whatever suits you because running rematches is a little tricky and it requires keeping track of all these extra scattered little polls, but the rules I have for rematches are as follows:

If the winner wins by 50% or more, no rematch.

If the winner is in the lead by 20%, no rematch.

If there are two leading competitor, single rematch.

If there's one leading competitor and two close runner ups, double rematch.

If it looks like it could be a double rematch, but the 2nd place competitor is closer to the first place competitor, it should be a single rematch (and vice versa).

If it looks like it could be a double rematch, the 3rd + 4th + etc place competitors results must be greater than or equal to the 1st place competitor for a double rematch to be held.

4) Scheduling

This one is rather unique to my situation, so I can't really offer too much advice here. Really depending on your voter-base and your access to them, you need to determine if you want to do this long term (slowly releasing the polls) or short term (release them more or less all at once) and if you want to do 1 week polls (requires some extra coordination, especially so that you don't have 1 week gaps between poll drops as you wait for previous round's data to come in) or 1 day polls (easier, but requires your voter base to be more readily available to you).

My very long term approach is based mostly on the fact that the Pokemon community here is very very large and scattered and, starting off, I effectively had 0 way to spread news about the tournament to anyone other than via Blaze. I think if you search scheduling on this blog, you can find the posts that were made when I decided to change the poll schedule, and I did so fairly publicly, so it should be pretty easy to see the structure of this tournament from that.

5) Tournament Summaries/Brackets

Wasn't sure what to call this one but it's basically a, oh no this thing is huge and constantly shifting but people want to kind of get an idea of where we've been and what's coming next, but because it's not a typical 1v1 tournament and also there are hundreds of these guys, I have no idea how to do that.

Which doesn't fit so well in a title lol.

Anyway there are probably a lot better ways of doing this than I did, but I basically just set up a free Neocities site to help keep track of anything. It took me a very long evening to do it, especially since my web dev is super rusty, but it's working out great because it also helps me keep track of everything, because the way I had it set up in my spreadsheet was not super intuitive or easy to see. I doubt anyone wants it, but I am totally willing to share the code behind the site if you all don't know how to get it from just inspecting the page and all. It's pretty clunky though so I'm not advertising it lol.

If I was really smart I'd have all the data in a JSON file and have a JS script just make all the cards that I have in there for me instead of using a separate C++ script (yes, sorry, I use C++ for things like this but that's because I know it better than like Python which would actually probably be the better choice) to generate the cards in HTML which I then paste into the HTML file, but also that would take a lot of time to figure out how to do, and time is not on my side. So.

Anyway. That's most of what I've got organization-wise. I typed this all up on my phone away from my computer so hopefully it's not too messy. I'm not sure if I've provided the info you're looking for or if I've included too much of the information you're not looking for, but I've rarely been accused of not being thorough at least 😭

Speaking of, I'm so excited that you're okay with people babbling about their fics!! I don't know anybody irl to talk about this stuff with, so it's all just sorta Vibrating In My Mind cbskvnsks. The one I'm working on rn is an x Ingo fic! You have made me love the silly little subway men so much <3 I'm gonna toss a really quick rundown of the oc/story in rq!

- oc was the Champion of Kalos before the events of the gen 6 games, and takes the place of Diantha (I love Diantha sm but I feel like SO much more could have been done with her character ^^;). She also runs the Battle Château, tho I can't decide if that's something she does bc she's the Champion or if it's something family owned? (I wanted oc to have ties to the Château because Diantha is the only Grand Duchess shown in-game!)

- oc grew up with Lysandre and Malva, which is what blinds her to what her friends become once Team Magma starts coming into being. They do try to get her in on it, but quickly realize that she doesn't see the world the same way they do and keep things away from her. She knows something is going on, but she can't bring herself go looking. She's blindsided by what they were up to

- During the championship battle with Calem/Serena, her mega Metagross realizes its losing and tries to explode. Oc shatters her Key Stone to keep this from happening, and loses the battle. She's investigated for any ties to Team Magma after which causes a media scandal, though it dies down once she's proven to have had no involvement. Still, she ends up leaving the country a few months after

- She enters Unova as a model, and eventually meets Elesa. Elesa recognizes her and strikes up a conversation, and the two eventually become friends. After a while, oc shares that she hasn't battled since losing the championship, and while she and her pokemon miss it she's can't bring herself to do it

- Elesa manages to talk oc into battling against her, which eventually progresses into Elesa taking oc to the Battle Subway. The entire time, Elesa has been teasing the twins by saying she's made a super strong new friend and maybe she'll bring her by the Battle Subway someday, because she can't help gloating about fighting a Champion-level trainer even if she can't outright say she is

- They manage to fight their way to Ingo and Emmet on the first try - they are a gym leader and a former Champion after all. THIS is where the fun begins; I'm planning on doing some sort of soulmate au with this story, right now the one where your world is greyscale until your see your soulmate!

- So oc just lost both of her closest friends, her title, the trust and respect of her region, the trust of her pokemon (or Metagross, at least), up and moved across the world (leaving behind her battle facility), meets her soulmate at her absolute lowest point, AND gets BOMBARDED with color. She does not stick around after the battle. Which shatters Ingo's heart.

And that's where the Ingo x oc bit of the fic starts! Oc does come clean to Elesa like immediately after, and she and Emmet do some damage control. The fic is going to be about like,, what a soulmate actually Is in that sort of au, and healing yourself before jumping into a relationship. Out of curiosity since you've mentioned The Legend of Zelda before, are there any of those games that you would reccomend? I've never played them before. I like Pokemon, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts if that helps

SO. i don't know anything about final fantasy or kingdom hearts unfortunately but i CAN take a wild guess and say that if you like pokémon there's a higher chance that you're a fan of 2D games because a good majority of fans are in agreement that pokémon was better when it was 2D. in which case. let me put this under a readmore so people who aren't interested in zelda don't get annoyed lmao:

first of all i have to recommend my favorite game in the legend of zelda series ever which is the minish cap. it's definitely the most polished 2D zelda game out there (aside from four swords adventures but that was on a home console not a handheld) and all the spritework is SO good and cute and filled with whimsy and does actually remind me of pokémon. and the soundtrack is an absolute banger AND it isn't a terribly long game at all so it can serve as a great little introduction for people getting into zelda. a couple other fun 2D zelda games (and these will probably appeal more to people who are fans of the original rby/gsc because of the style) are link's awakening (which does have a switch remake) and oracle of ages!!! oracle of seasons was fun to me but most people agree that oracle of ages was much More fun. if you want more of what the majority of the zelda series is about there's a link to the past, which was released in 1991 (so before pokémon) and features link, zelda, and ganon, who are all the Main Three of the games.

aside from that, if the 3D games interest you, a link between worlds (successor to alttp but you don't have to play it to understand what's going on) is REALLY good with a KILLER fucking soundtrack. spirit tracks is wonderful and you ride in a train the whole game for people who are ingo & emmet fans. ocarina of time is probably the most influential zelda game out there aside from a link to the past and in certain games (wind waker [sailing on the ocean!] and majora's mask [THE TIME LOOP GAME OF ALL TIME]) some things will go directly over your head if you don't play ocarina of time first. skyward sword is fucking AWESOME and i cried like a baby at the end of it.

and. this is just me personally but i cannot stress this enough. avoid breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom like the fucking plague. if you do play them you cannot think of them as zelda games. they're alright games for people who like them i guess but they're genuinely the worst fucking ZELDA games in the franchise. i am so serious about this. i'm trying to make my way through breath of the wild right now (previously i'd just watched a playthrough) and it is legitimately so fucking boring and the soundtrack is GODAWFUL. pokémon legends arceus did everything 100000x better than breath of the wild absolutely no argument. and even diehard breath of the wild fans were disappointed with tears of the kingdom which should tell you everything you need to know.

ANYWAY. tl;dr: play minish cap, link's awakening, or oracle of ages if you want some fun 2D games (very easily accessible on an emulator or homebrewed 3DS, or nintendo switch for link's awakening remake). play a link to the past (easily accessible on an emulator) or ocarina of time (has a 3DS remake; opens up the door to gain a better understanding of wind waker and majora's mask*) if you want the Classic Zelda Storyline to understand what's kind of going on everywhere else. play a link between worlds (3DS) or skyward sword (wii or nintendo switch) if you want a good 3D game where things are less likely to fly over your head.

*majora's mask and wind waker can very easily still be played without playing ocarina of time! there are just some things in the game that'll woosh straight over your head if you haven't played them. also okay that's a lie about wind waker being easily accessible because it's only available on the nintendo gamecube or wiiu BUT majora's mask does have a 3DS remake just like ocarina of time so if you've homebrewed a 3DS you're good to go on that end. OKAY i'm done

Another member of the 'Sun Heroes' was Zero the Buisel 🦦 (Pokemon OC) before he transforms into Gacha Club OC, in October of 2022 [CLICK ME!]. Nonetheless, his first "Cuteness Mecha Armor" was the "GM III Beam Master" 💥🔫🤖, an artillery type custom support suit from "Gundam Build Divers". 🙂

GM III Zero Beam Master Came from the real: RGM-86RBM GM III Beam Master [CLICK ME!]

Armament(s):

Beam Saber • A handheld close range weapon, one is stored in each knee. Same model as the ones used by GM III

Missile Pod • Like the GM III, the GM III Beam Master can be outfitted with a pair of optional missile pods with four mid-scale missiles each on its shoulder. The four missiles can be changed to carry multiple warheads each, turning into multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV), and each warhead can be aimed at a different target. Each missile pod is equipped with added sensors that improve accuracy. There are also other pods that are equipped with numerous micro-missiles.

Large Missile Launcher • An armament that carries large-scale, high-performance missiles with a special form that improves maneuverability. Unlike the GM III which equipped the large missile launchers on both sides of the waist, the GM III Beam Master have them on the outside of each legs as the Buster Binders are equipped on its waist.

Buster Binder • A set of shooting weapon mounted on both sides of the waist. On their own, they can fire Flash Beam - weaker buckshot beams that spread over a wide area at close range. Can also combine with the Changeling Rifle to fire the Fusion Beam.

Beam Rifle • The same handheld beam rifle as used by the standard GM III. A single shot from this ranged beam weaponry can penetrate any armor not designed to resist it. Zero used this in his first sortie.

Changeling Rifle • A special custom rifle original by Yukio "Yukki" Hidaka. It can docking on each side of Buster Binders for a unique style handle and can increase fire power for a massive power damage on both guns in one rifle. Each gun barrel with different range: ○ Beam Vulcan Mode - Firing barrage with energy beam particles. ○ Beam Rifle Mode - A long range sniper like weapon that can deal a massive damage by one (or multiple) shots.

Shield • The same model of shield used by GM III. Zero used this in his first sortie.

Who was your first TOA muse? If you don’t have them anymore, could you see yourself picking them up again? Mae is someone I saw (not too highly) placed on 2022-2023's Most Wanted list and I knew I wanted to do an Echoes muse to start. I don't know if they mesh with my own personality/style well, but they are definitely fun to play around with still. :>

Have you had any other TOA muses? Shamir was a short project that got smashed up due to a busy summer/nerves, but I do want to visit her again someday. Her voice and personality is very strong, but might not be for me.

POKEMON Z-A THEORIZING AND LIKE AAAA

I JUST WATCHed the pokemon presents and HEHEHEHHE

Okay, okay. I am a calm collected person except Kalos is my favorite Pokemon gen and it like heheheh-

So! We can actually already predict when this game roughly is! Which is around the same time frame as Pokemon legends: Arceus, let me explain;

Pokémon legends Arceus from our theorizing is commonly accepted to take place in the Pokemon world equivelent of the Meiji Restoration (1868-1889). We believe it’s during this period due to like clothing, architecture, story plots. Go watch a video on YouTube for more (like the Lockstin and Gnoggin one) because they explain it better than me.

Now, why do I say that Pokemon legends Z-A takes place in the same time frame? Well, we know that Lumoise; the town being showed that is under reconstruction is based off Paris.

Paris actually also got redesigned in 1853, and along with that from certain pictures at the beginning of the trailer,

We can also deduce that the Architectural style is that of the 1800s during Paris’s re-development is extremely similar,

I’m sorry. But perhaps this game is set in modern Pokemon times; just simply heavily affected by the past, perhaps Kalos after the events of X&Y needs a re-development or you are working on a history project of the city. Something of the like.

Anyway all that to say so excited for this game, Kalos is very nostalgic for me and I’m so hyped to see it again. Also this is one of my favorite periods architectural styles so I wanted to nerd a little lol.

hi cynthia different person from the other anon here but i'd like to throw my hat into the ring with my team. i've been here before, i think.. but i'm a cringefail cultural anthro student who's a pretty decent trainer in my spare time! :)

so my team consists of a Golurk, a Porygon-Z, an Umbreon, an Oricorio usually in Baile Style but we switch it up now and again, a Falinks, and a Roserade, whom I usually lead with! If you want more details like movesets and stuff I'll be happy to provide :)

i really admire you as both an archaeologist and a trainer, so it's really cool to see you :))))

Oh, I remember you, hello again! (You actually sent this ask in first, so I'm getting around to it first, it's been a busy day but I love thinking about these things.)

Hmm, alright. Overall, that does seem fairly balanced, you don't have any typing overlaps—typically my advice is to either have no overlapping types or pick a type and run with it.

Unless you've seriously pissed me off—which is very difficult to do without being part of and/or leading a team causing problems for Sinnoh on purpose—I tend to start out with my Spiritomb.

Depends on the moveset, of course. Roserade can, for instance, learn Dazzling Gleam... though I'd personally opt for poisoning over outright trying to knock out a more defensive pokemon like Spiritomb myself... ultimately, that could go either way. No real advantages on either side, apart from the advantage of obscurity/people not being able to figure out what type Spiritomb is, and in the interest of fairness I'll assume you know.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that your Roserade was able to poison my Spiritomb—either via Poison Point or a move—but did go down shortly afterwards. Your best bet against Spiritomb would be either the Umbreon or the Porygon-Z... let's go with Umbreon, my girlfriend has an Umbreon, he's a cuddlebug and a pretty good battler.

Umbreon takes my Spiritomb down, at which point my own best option is either my Togekiss (preferable) or my own Roserade.

...Unfortunately for your Umbreon, that particular pokemon doesn't learn any moves for countering fairy-types or flying-types. Your best option there would probably be to stall as much as possible, and/or chip away at my Togekiss's defenses as much as possible.

Now, you've got a Togekiss to handle. Your Roserade honestly would have been an okay option here, if not an ideal one - it would be a matter of which pokemon was faster in knocking out the other, and Roserade tend not to be trained for their speed - but it's a moot point, your Roserade is already knocked out in this hypothetical scenario.

...You don't really have any ideal options here, but you have some worse options. Falinks is weak to both of Togekiss's types. Golurk is a ground-type going up against a flying-type, which can work out but tends not to in my experience. Porygon-Z, again, depends on the moveset, but you could get lucky with Conversion-2 (or you could already have an electric-type move in their moveset, the Porygon line learns quite a lot of electric moves for a non-electric pokemon) so that's a viable option.

I'd, personally, go with your Oricorio. Baile style is... fire-type, correct? Those are resistant to fairy-type moves, which would mean that both of the move types my Togekiss would do the most damage with would do less damage to that pokemon specifically.

(The... I can't remember what the electric-type Oricorio style is, that could also work, but then Togekiss would still be able to do quite a lot of damage with fairy-type moves alone. If you're going on the defensive, you don't want to do that by halves.)

Flying-type moves wouldn't do very much, but a fire-type Revelation Dance would. It would be close, but I think your Oricorio might just be able to come out on top.

...Granted, your Oricorio would also likely go down immediately against my Milotic. Here's where I really hope your Porygon-Z knows an electric-type move, but either way you might struggle. She's bulky. Very, very bulky, and unless you planned on that ahead of time with Conversion, you wouldn't be getting any sort of boost to that electric move's effectiveness, either.

Falinks would be a better option than Golurk, here, simply because of Golurk's weakness to water. If your Porygon did enough damage ahead of time, you likely could take my Milotic out quickly... at which point I would pull out my own Roserade.

Falinks learns a couple of bug moves, but First Impression can only be used... well, first! And assuming you've already either used it or not against my Milotic, your other option is Megahorn. Which, well... it's a powerful move, but it tends to miss more often than the science claims it should, let's put it that way. I prefer to avoid powerful-but-risky moves like that myself, these days.

My Roserade would, in all likelihood, take down your Falinks. Which leaves you with only your Golurk, and I with my Roserade and my Garchomp.

...At that point, I'm afraid, unless you and your Golurk were particularly lucky, you've already all but lost. I like sending out my Garchomp last (or close to last) for a reason, and that reason is twofold. One, to get any ice-types that people think they're being smart with out of the way early. Two, because she is very, very, very good at mopping up whatever my other pokemon have left for her.

Honestly, though, you do have a fairly well-balanced team. Also, I should clarify, this is entirely speaking in hypotheticals, one can never really predict the outcome of a battle before it begins.

You should come by the League sometime. It'll be fun. :)

Okay, okay, trying to catch up on some shit. So, let's put the whole High School DXD thing to bed, because analyzing and critiquing ecchi harem schlock that swings way above its weight class is weirdly fascinating to me!

So. Season 4.

Right, let's just address the elephant in the room. The new studio, and with it, the new art style.

Not really a fan.

Like, I know what happened, I know why there was a switch, I know they're trying to emulate the art style of the light novels more closely. I just liked the older style better, especially when it comes to the facial expressions. It used to be so vivid and detailed. Like, one look and you'd be able to tell immediately what a character is about and what they're feeling. Now, everyone just looks kinda stone.

I will say this though. Like the style switch in Pokemon, what we lose in detail we gain in fluidity. Those fight scenes were sick, especially when they dispensed with the artillery and went for hand to hand. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Okay, art style's different, don't really care for it, but I can adjust. How's the season itself?

Again, mostly a mixed bag, which I suppose comes with each season adapting two books each. You just tend to like one kind of story over the other, and here, I definitely preferred one arc over the other.

Like, the whole hunt for Kunou's mom was...fine, I guess. Kunou's cute and I don't object to her, though the cast is getting really crowded. And I did genuinely enjoy just watching the gang get to go on vacation and have fun together.

What I didn't like was who was behind it. I'm sorry, but so far, the Khaos Brigade just isn't working for me, mainly because they keep throwing all these new names at us. Like, okay, I know Cao Cao and the rest of the Hero faction go and become their own thing later, cool, but for now, it's another gaggle of stuff that we've seen before.

And I really didn't like how this was supposedly the challenge that caused Issei to fall into despair and almost give up. Like, really? Issei? After everything else he's vanquished? This is his darkest hour?

I totally buy him needing tits to activate his hidden strength and get back into the game, though. And, okay, I've complained in the past about big, climatic battles being derailed by some cool new character just dropping into the middle of things and solving the problem. But this time I'll let it slide, because we get the OG Monkey King himself, and he's kind of awesome.

The Boob Dragon thing is pretty funny for its ridiculousness, though really? This is considered wholesome children's entertainment in the demon realm? Okay.

Kinda bummed how similar the demon realm and its inhabitants are to normal humans. Like, evil it up! You're demons! Where's your demonic class?

Okay, so the first arc was kind of eh, but the second might very well be one of my favorites so far. For one, the rating games are one of my favorite aspects of the series so far, because I love tournaments and we get to see the other characters shine a little.

Also, Sairaorg, man. What a fucking chad. Dude gets born without powers, is disinherited by his asshole father, almost loses his mom to illness, but reforms himself into a massive physical powerhouse through sheer will and training alone. Plus, he respects the hell out of Issei in a "Game recognize Game" sort of way and wants punch it out with him. Respect.

The rating game was awesome. Yes, there was a bunch of new names again, but it worked better this time and they were able to shine through action. And I laughed my ass off when Issei foiled his opponent's attempt to seduce him because he was so offended at the violation of the proper way to do a strip tease. Man really takes his ecchi seriously.

Issei and Sairaorg just punching the shit out of each other was so goddamned anime. They keep getting more and more power ups, keep giving these heroic speeches, and you kind of want them both to win. In the end, Sairaorg still fighting on despite having passed out long ago through sheer determination alone? Magnificent.

Okay, I'm going to say it. I like Sairaorg as a rival way more than Vali.

9. Do you have any cool talents? Well, despite being 40, I can put my feet behind my head. How's that?

No, for real: I've got some kind of EDS connective tissue thing. My brother has it to a greater degree (I'm envious) but we've both got the thing where your skin feels a bit odd and your scars look strange and you're just a little too flexible for your own good.

It's cool except that when I go for walks, sometimes my knees decide to be like "Hey, I have an idea. How about fuck this?" and start slipping (for lack of a better term) side to side and it hurts, so I always have to be ready to limp back home if that happens. My hips will do the same thing, but it seems less frequent than my knees.

But, yeah, I can cram all 5 feet, 10 lanky inches of myself into a standard-size moving box, which was a trick I did a few times during move-in at college. It's kind of fun to be able to wriggle into small spaces like that. It's come in handy a few times at work, interestingly enough.

50. How are you doing today? Not super-great, actually. Not to be TMI, but I've been feeling sick for the last couple of days. It's like my entire GI tract is swollen and sore, from my throat on down. I was bloated as hell Friday night and all day Saturday--even my head hurt, wtf? I'm better today but I'm still all sore. I'm not even hungry and I don't even want to eat but I can tell my blood sugar is getting low… I was supposed to have supper with my folks but that's not happening, which is frustrating…

I'm also feeling a bit anxious about my therapy appointment tomorrow because those are rough and I wish I could just be better already.

The weather is nice, though, if a bit chilly. But it's dry now, which is a relief after yesterday's humidity, and it's perfectly clear. And I'm working on some cosplay plans, though I'm feeling a bit uneasy about those because cosplay can be expensive as hell. But I want to. I don't want to say I need to but I kind of need to. It keeps me going. I can't sacrifice everything. So I'm pricing out fabric and working out how I want to do this. (The hat, a major element of the costume, is sitting nearby and motivating me immensely.)

Okay technically in August 2022 I had to drive out to the city water department main offices for a job interview. I ended up getting hired but the fact that I had to leave for work at about 5am and drive for an hour made it tough. That and the fact that my job responsibilities got changed on me unexpectedly and I wasn't getting any training… Yeah, not a great match. I think that's the last time I travelled somewhere new. Unless this question is really asking about travelling travelling. Like internationally or something not-quite-locally, in which case that would be something like 2010? I think? Summer 2010 was when I went to Otakon, which was definitely a new place for me. (That was the year of dudes walking around yelling "Backscratcher? Mmbackscratcher!" from Family Guy, I think? It was also the summer of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver and the related Pokewalker and there were literally Pokemon walkers wearing dozens of the things and offering to walk your Pokemon for a fee. And the staff at the H.Naoto booth said my ouji-style outfit looked great and got me to hang around for a handshake event with the designer(!!!!). And I met a ton of people I only knew online to that point, which was awesome. Yeah, that was a fun time--to think I almost didn't go.)

I don't travel much--can you tell? Maybe I'll have a different answer to this when I have spending money again. I mean, I fully intend to go to Japan before too much longer.

Hellooo! What if there was a golden retriever who was practically raised on technology and used it as a means of escapism and expression? And ALSO wore cool sunglasses?... You'd get me, I'm therian! I front often, and I love getting to fiddle with and learn new apps or technology we're given. OOH and I love making silly little charts and graphs.

My most proud acheivment, personally- I even created and am the main coder of our Neocities (kopawz.neocities.org)! I share though, don't worry. <3 If we ever talk, I'd be happy to teach you about html when we can; making your own site is very freeing!

anyway, hi, i just keep things easygoing in busy and stressful situations when i can because i have yo have a cool head under these pressure inducing situations. turns out when you do that a lot over the course of your life and can't tell what is actually a danger is anymore once your brain is so sucks, even little things cause me to show up. if i had it my way though, i'd be hanging out perpetually, 17776 style

I was one of the first ones here. You know how it is with a kid's first real game. If you start talking about Twilight Princess, I'm going to have to restrain myself to not talk off your ears right off your head. Sometimes, it's just time to take a walk outside. Because everyone is being an idiot inside, so sometimes it's mandatory outside idiot time for our survival. Oh, and I really fucking love fishing mini games, there's literally nothing you could do to fuck up a fishing mini game.
