i want to start listening to mount eerie but am feeling a little overwhelmed with the amount of songs.. is there any place i should start with that you'd recommend?
ok going to try and not be too much of a nerd in this, and suggest maybe Lost Wisdom (with julie dioron and fred squire) because i think thats the first album i listened to in full (first songs i listened to were a bunch off Clear Moon and Winds Poem). if you want to be intense about it i'd go back to his The Microphones work and maybe start with The Glow pt 2 or also 'It was hot we stayed in the water' and then the album Mount Eerie (2003) and then start on his work as Mount Eerie. but if its the acoustic sparse sound you like then try out Lost wisdom and Dawn . if you want some weird ambient stuff and electronic experimental and metal influenced stuff, Winds Poem and also Clear Moon are v good. he's done work thats very very sparse and very noisy things too, so im ngl his work might not be easy to get into, it just depends. his last 3 albums that are more acoustic (as Mount Eerie) are also not accessible. not disability-wise, in the way that they're not easy to get into at all, like really not. A Crow Looked At Me is devastating and i mean that - it's about geneviève castrée who also made amazing art and was married and had a kid with phil (mount eerie), who died from cancer a year before the album came out, and the album is intensely, graphically about it. like im warning you and people reading because its brutal. . and then the album after that (one i listen to a lot for some reason) is Now Only, which is a continuation but more distant and reflective. i rly like it but you kind of need to listen to Crow first so idk . and then after that is Lost Wisdom pt.2 which is more autobiographical about phil's life after in general. its another collaboration with julie dioron and has some v nice songs on it. . .. hm ye thats a lot. here's a live performance with lots of new not-yet-released songs that i really like. his live performances are good i rly recommend them
youtube
also this newer song too:
