Wait An/Kohane have outright stated romantic interest?

poor wording on my end bc they never actually say "an and kohane like each other romantically" but the evidence it very much there and it is clearly depicted and phrased in other ways. for example: the shoujo sparkle effect that is used for An from Kohane's POV.

This effect is often used on Haruka in Minori's imagination, which, well, let's just say it doesn't disprove that Kohane is attracted to An. While the effect is also used to show a character being cute or having a strong "idol" aura without any attraction attached, it's prettly clear the intent was to show Kohane's attraction. Also she was blushing.

Bonus points to the fact the wedding event has a underlying message (they say it on screen) about how marriage should be equal regardless of the genders of the couple [because gay marriage currently isn't legal in Japan].

There's also literally everything in Buddy Funny Spend Time. While almost all of the interactions in that event can be read as platonic if you really want to, they're written so you can interpret it as romantic if you choose to. And considering the featured pairs in this event were Minori/Haruka, An/Kohane, and (briefly) Shizuku/Airi, it's not like that reading isn't supported by the writers lol. There's one part where Minori and Kohane get jealous of how close Haruka and An are as childhood friends and aren't sure if they can amount to that, but they want to try. Doesn't necessarily have to be romantic but can be if you choose to read it as such.

When Kohane is visibly attracted to Haruka, An gets slightly jealous and says that her singing should be the only thing that makes Kohane react that way.

Haruka also points out that although An has always been super friendly she's never been like this with anyone until Kohane came into her life, and still keeps this behaviour Kohane-exclusive. An says it's because they're partners, which, kinda friendzones them, but kinda doesn't.

The word for partner used in the story - "aibou" - means, to put it in incredibly basic terms, coworkers. It's like the cowboy or detective word for partner, though I believe it comes up in shounen every so often (the genre vbs story is based on). In itself, aibou has no romantic connotation. But 3 of the partnerships we see in VBS' story have lots of interactions that easily read as having romantic undertones, so basically in the context of VBS story the nature of said partnerships becomes a little more ambiguous. The word is still platonic and that doesn't change, but you get the idea. Oh and VBS has recurring romantic soulmate imagery more on that later.

continuing on BFST, yeah they went on a date. which is strongly suggested to be a romantic date unlike how it's sometimes used platonically. like the other characters say An is "seeing someone", at least in the English translation, which is very much associated with romantic interest. Also the original Japanese for the "do you know who she's going out with" line uses the phrase デートの相手 which is the Japanese equivalent for the word "date" (as in a person/your date), so it's not really any different. they go on another one in Kick it up a notch and An's card story for the event. their relationship is never labelled or anything (probably bc this genre avoids that sorta thing for fan-related reasons) but this very much was a thing that happened.

(also when ken says partner he says aibou. so not partner /r but anyway it does clarify that this date is to do with their relationship on a different level to partners /p. ie: an's going on a date with kohane because she's cute not because she's her partner. language is fun)

Lastly back on that thing I said I'd come back to. The Walk on and on costumes have romantic soulmate symbolism included on them. The wings on the backs of the outfits are based on the mythical hiyoku bird, a one-winged bird that could only fly after meeting its other half. Kohane's costume has pink accents, one of the variants has accents in An's image color and the wings on the backs of those variants match up to each other. The card illstrations themselves also feature crows, which mate for life. While the symbolism is mostly associated with Toya, the Whip the Wimp Girl! cards take place in the same location as the woao cards which is pretty neat, and makes sense given the themes of both events. I've put both their gacha logos above as well. Oh and An's card for wtwg was. Something.

And Kohane got the valentine event this year and it was about her entering a contest to win limited edition chocolates for An I forgot about that until just now.

Would Tigerfoot would remain single in your au, or would he have a partner in secret, of so who and why?

Because it's so, so hard to pick a partner for Tigerfoot, A) Whitestorm still dies, and is still with Willowpelt and B) while I would say "Whitestorm x Willowpelt x Tigerfoot" I don't actually see a relationship with the three working, not that they wouldn't have tried, but I think very soon Tigerfoot starts realizing that while he loves Whitestorm, he doesn't love Willowpelt, but they love each other a lot, and being a third wheel will eventually be unhealthy.

Goldenflower x Tigerfoot is an option, and one I really like! I like them becoming mates in their old age, platonic soulmates maybe? How do you explain someone who by the time they are old (in the lake territories) are the only ones from their generation still alive, and who knows you better than anyone ever could, are they romantic? Well they say I love you, but it's not romantic, they would kiss and hug and be together, it's deeper, intimate, private. No one is quite sure. It's not really a moving on from past loves rather embracing a new one while remembering, and I like the potential of sadness by Tigerfoot dying in the badger attack and then Goldeflower following not long after.

I haven't even thought of someone outside of the clans, other medicine cats? Let's be honest Mudfur is giving happily widower who is content not to move on, and Barkface is old and married to Tallstar, Runningnose? I don't see it personally. What about warriors from other clans? Can't see it also, I don't think he's close with anyone outside of Thunderclan.

Tigerclaw is super shippable with like 90% of anyone he shares time with, but Tigerfoot? My man is a doctor that is working 5 to 23 monday to sunday 4 weeks a month 12 months a year with no breaks in between until he gets an intern, he's married to his job, workaholic, he needs someone to match his energy or lack thereof, and I do not have one right.

I ask you, please, to share someone if you want to see him kiss anyone, and if it's funny (and I mean hilarious, this is your time to throw everything and the sink), I'll consider making it canon.

Reading the Rowan, Orion Drabble has me curious about the band members’ perspectives on MC and Seven. Cause honestly to me it doesn’t seem like they really knew the depth and how intertwined the two were. Rowan is upset at MC for choosing UW, despite knowing MC’s history with Seven, they lost their person in such a horrible manner because of a vote the band members brought up…while it’s not their fault how things went down…it still feels like it a little..if the vote didn’t happen maybe things would have been different.

SV is all up in arms with Seven, but MC’s band has moved on with MC still possibly being stuck in the past. They are aware of that much, but still question them when it comes down between UW and SV? It seems strange for people who are MC’s presumably closest friends to be upset with them for not wanting to share with their ex (platonic/romantic) soulmate type person after everything that went on, after everything they witnessed, and to not understand how hurt their lead singer actually is.

Well, you have to remember Rowan is pissed. That scene happens literally right after MC chooses UWB. Rowan is not thinking about MC's feelings in that moment because he's upset. They're not perfect people; Rowan is selfish in that moment that he thinks his way is the best way. It happens.

You have to remember the band spent years being friends with Seven and being around Seven. They witnessed the breakdown themselves, which means they can have a more informed opinion on it. Soft Violence know nothing aside from what Seven tells them. Seven is super invested in that whole situation because they were deep in it and their feelings are still very complex when it comes to that, so of course SV is going to be up in arms over it because they're going off what their friend told them. If Seven is making it a big deal, they will act accordingly and make it a big deal too.

Canonically, MC's behavior towards that situation takes a more internal approach while Seven's feelings over it are very external.

And yes, the band has moved on from Seven. They're not going to be stuck in the past. It is what it is. They were close to Seven, very close, but their relationship with Sev is very different from MC's relationship with Seven. It was very personal for MC and Seven made it that way because it was personal for them too. They're adults, they have to move on eventually. It really only makes sense for Seven and MC not to have moved on because of how personal the vote was made for both of them.

This is also a competition and the band takes that into account as well. Seven is a very distracting person. They have a really strong presence, and being around them can throw the band off. They're adults once again, they love MC and they are MC's closest friend, but when they know MC is being swayed by their own internal feelings they have to step in and put in their own opinion for the sake of the band. That was literally what the vote was about. Sometimes friendship isn't always about coddling your friend. Sometimes it means being the adult and giving them tough love/putting feelings aside.

The band will do that a lot. And maybe people don't like it, but they've been friends with MC long enough that they're not even friends really. They're family. And they're at a stage where they don't question themselves about whether they should say something or not. All that social etiquette was thrown out the window a long time ago haha they're honest with each other.

And yeah, if the vote didn't happen things would be different. Everything would be different.

Random fun facts about the sbg gang in my sbg abridged au (basically sbg but goofy and the genre is also comedy and silly slow burn romances as well as sibling dynamics)

Tyler, at some point, got jealous of his sister being close to Aiden (He was jealous of who? Well, it could go either way ;))

That led to the best friends to hang around Tyler more, making the brunette boy claim to be annoyed by them (he secretly likes it)

Logan and Ashlyn trick the sbg gang into thinking they’re actual siblings one time

The two get along very well and can act like their complete selves around each other (like sassy or something)

Since there’s that popular headcanon of Tyler being interested in tattoo art (or is it actually canon?? Help idk anything 😭😭), I think that in his childhood, he would draw on his sister’s hand for fun and Taylor makes a lot of cute requests like flowers or butterflies

He didn’t do that anymore after what had happened to his father because he didn’t think his interests were important

And then he met Aiden, who loves doodling on his hand for fun because he was bored, so that slowly made Tyler interested in doing that again

Later on, Aiden and Tyler doodle on each other in their mini fights or just whenever they feel bored

Aiden is bi and has a type— people who are grumpy on the outside but softhearted on the inside

So that meant he had both a crush on Ashlyn AND Tyler (like he fell for Ashlyn first but realized they were both better as besties and also realized he actually loved Tyler in the romantic sense)

I doubt I'll ever actually make a MCD rewrite, gods know my fixation will die down long before I'd get anything on paper or even finish rewatching the whole thing, but it's still fun to share what ideas I have come up with, so here we are!

In a hypothetical rewrite, I would change a bunch of dynamics. If I were to write mcd, a large portion of season 1 would be relationship focused. And I DON'T mean romantic necessarily, I mean building relationships, fleshing out the town, making the audience really get to know the characters and how they interact with each other.

My biggest focus is on Aph's closest friends, so here are my current ideas and hcs!

(Note here: I mention aroace dynamics, I am aware that it's a spectrum, I myself am on the spectrum, I just haven't decided how it would work with Aph herself so it's vague.)

Garroth:

Still in love with Aph

Laurance is his best friend, depends on him when he can't depend on Aph

Views Dante as a younger brother or son

Much less jealous and possessive over Aph, accepts that she may never feel the same, though is causes him heartache.

Has a habit of "adopting" people, most likely due to his past and feeling like a failure to his younger brothers. (Zenix, Dante, Levin, Brian etc)

His closest friends are Aph, Laurance and Dante. Unlikely friendship with Dale and Logan along with Cadenza

Laurance:

Likes Aph, though mostly mistakes his loyalty and fondness and genuine friendship for love. Aph is just as important to him as she is in the series, it's just not romantic love

Hello! I’m 25+, she/her, looking to rp with people who are 22+, plotting and brainstorming heavy and getting to threads as we have the time/capacity for them. Prefer paragraph style writing. Usually play m/m, may be willing to do m/f.

I have soulmates on the mind and would love to do a plot involving that. Below are some concepts I have in mind, but I am open to suggestions or brainstorming something together instead if you’d prefer. Open to different kinds of plots in anything from fluff, angst, to dead dove 🕊️. If any of the ideas below sound good to you, like this post and I’ll reach out. 

Idea #1: Futuristic type world where the government keeps people's DNA on file and is able to trace matches of who peoples' soulmates are. It's not a perfect system and some bonds are much stronger than others, but the government does require that if someone is marrying someone that is not their soulmate they have to spend a designated amount of time (we can hash out the specifics of the time) with the soulmate first to try to prevent future divorces if they find their soulmate in life. I'd love to play a man engaged to a woman he is convinced is the love of his life, but is having to go through the government process of spending the mandated time with his soulmate so he can get married and finds out his soulmate is a man- which is something he never even considered. Super flexible on the tone of this one. Some possible avenues:

Slower burn or even platonic, with it being deeply introspective as the characters spend time together has them learning about who they are, their sexuality, etc. Maybe falling in love or just becoming close and supporting each other but deciding not to be together romantically

I'm also okay with it being much darker with a lot of anger and big feelings of being forced to spend time together and upset about the attraction that does seem to come up even when they don't want it. Okay with it going into toxic and controlling, even things like your character trying to break off my character's marriage or force them to stay in this relationship now that the soulmate bond has been activated

Maybe a very angsty cheating plot. They have their time together and my character is convinced he still wants to marry the other person but when things are difficult in his relationship he is constantly still thinking about his soulmate and can't help but drifting back to them.

Idea #2: Another futuristic type world where scientist are discovering soulmate bonds but it is not known about in common society and they actually work pretty hard to keep it on the down low because from the few cases they have been able to study it seems like sometimes things can go wrong and soulmate bonds may also trigger some more feral/aggressive behavior from humans that is not a great fit for our modern society. Scientist really have not been able to study in depth about this bonds, but an unethical science group has been able to gather DNA samples from some groups of people and believe they have some potential soulmate matches that they want to study. In order to bring these potential soulmates to an isolated place to study the group creates a ruse of some people winning a “destination vacation” to an island (very vaguely inspired by the movie Old by M. Night Shyamalan, but trapping people together to study soulmate bonds instead of their health conditions. Do not have to see the movie to understand what I'm wanting to do with this and we could very much do our own thing.)

Idea #3: This one could work with a more realistic or fantasy setting. Basically, different lands have different beliefs and laws related to soulmates. My character comes from a place that does not put a lot of value on soulmates and while people may encounter their soulmate at some point in their life there are no laws around it and people can choose to be with their soulmate or not. My character is traveling to the area where your character lives and they meet and pretty instantly discover they are soulmates. This land has a culture that places A TON of value on soulmates and mandates their bond and believes that separating soulmates is a disgrace and could cause future harm to either of the bonded partners so they've made it illegal. We could hash out the specifics from here and how dark we'd like it to be.

Dot and Fatin: a slowburn friendship

October Leatin Prompts - day 25 - Dot

(not leatin focused at all until the end and not even a fanfic really - more of a rambling, but i've had this in my drafts for over half a year so enjoy)

thinking about dot and fatin and what they'd be like if they met at school instead of on the island.

yeah they're fast friends on the island because they are quite literally trapped and have nothing to do/ no one else to talk to but if they met through "normal" circumstances, they probably would have a slow burn friendship.

see: when they meet for the first time and they probably don't think much of it. dot probably assumes she's just another one of those girls and fatin probably doesn't even remember dot.

cut to them starting to talk more and not hating the other's presence immediately but then also being super apprehensive about it because they both think they're better off alone. fatin's too busy with the cello and dot's too busy with her dad. but they also both really enjoy each other's presence so they gaslight themselves into thinking that they don't and that they're better off without one another.

even then they still seek each other out. it's small stuff at first, like partnering up in class and sitting together at assemblies. then it happens so frequently that they can't deny it anymore and realize how much they want each other in their lives.

they're still scared because they don't think the other one wants that so they do regular friend things but still refuse to acknowledge that they're more than just school acquaintances: dot eats lunch in the music room while fatin practices and fatin acts as a lookout while dot does her rounds. sometimes they'll even do something outside of school, albeit briefly like driving each other home or that one time they ran into each other at the mall and walked around for a bit.

eventually something big happens, probably similar to their canon backstories, and everything changes.

then they're forced to confront the fact that they aren't alone and they've always had a friend there for them and surprise surprise, they don't hate it. it actually feels nice to know that someone else has your back.

so they develop this understanding that they're friends, best friends maybe, even if they'll never acknowledge it and even though it took them so long to get there. they learn how to have and be a friend together and it's not perfect, but it works. they take care of each other and they finally let themselves get taken care of too. they finally let someone else in.

and it's good for a while - they have each other and that's all they really need. then fatin meets leah and everything changes and dot doesn't know what to do.

dot struggles a lot when leah and fatin first gets together - it's a hard and sudden adjustment. of course dot knows that she doesn't need to be with fatin so often, but everything was good how they were before and maybe it doesn't feel as good as it used to. and if it doesn't feel as good now, maybe it's bound to get worse. everything in her life gets worse so it was inevitable that this would too.

she's still scared though - she doesn't want to lose fatin after they just became friends.

of course she doesn't lose fatin, but the shift of going from fatin's number one and the only person fatin would open up to and then suddenly having to share that...

it's hard, so she probably pushes fatin away - it's what fatin would want. dot was a temporary fill until fatin found her one and only and now she has. dot isn't needed anymore.

of course fatin notices and calls bullshit immediately. it'd probably take a bit of adapting but they'll get there eventually. because they're dot and fatin, as close to platonic soulmates as it gets.

Okay, as per this poll I will now explain...

Yes, I ship Reylo (Rey/Ben Solo[Kylo Ren]), but...

In an AU.

To be clear up front, this is not a hard and fast ship, even in the circumstances of my AU. Sometimes I like them as a ship, sometimes I like them better as platonic soulmates. It all depends on what mood I'm in, and if I made the sequel trilogy my way, I would make it ambiguous. Maybe. Unless the actors felt it should be otherwise.

ANYWAY, after seeing a bunch of sweet Reylo fanart, I wished for a way I could ship them, and also a better explanation for Rey's unexplained ability to use the Force. So I thought, what if Rey was one of Luke's students, and she and Ben were super close, but somehow her memories got messed with, and what if that happened with Ben too, and that's why he turned to the Dark Side?

So I rewrote the entire sequel trilogy in my head, and have only written one part of it down, (go read it here), but basically the gist is: Rey's memories only got pasted over, while Ben's got rewritten (think Peeta and the highjacking). That's why Ben thinks Luke tried to kill him, and that he tried to kill the other padawans, and that Rey is dangerous.

Rey was an orphan, found and brought in by Luke, who became as a father to her. She and Ben were inseparable from the get-go, and he taught her how to fly the Falcon, how to do all her katas. He was like a big brother to her, her hero, and he promised to be her master when he got knighted.

Everyone thinks Ben Solo is dead, but after they discover he's not ("You killed my son!" "No. I was your son."), that he and Kylo Ren are actually the same person, Rey is dead set on saving him. So is Luke, as he feels certain it's his fault for leaving Ben to fight off so many, even though it was Ben who told him to take Rey and run.

Luke hopes to restore Ben's memories the way he did Rey's, but in his face-off with Kylo Ren, he takes a mortal strike to get close enough to reach his nephew. Rey witnesses this. The shock cracks through Kylo/Ben's memories, and he realizes what he has done, killing Luke. He flees, while Rey stays with Luke, who gives her his lightsaber, tells her to save Ben, tells her he was proud to have a padawan like her, maybe even says the 'you were as a daughter to me' bit out loud?

Anyway, after Ben flees, he has a total breakdown, off on some planet somewhere. But his grandfather shows up to give him some advice, yes! Anakin would be there!

Rey and Ben find each other, go off to kill Snoke and end the war (but it's Leia who gets to shoot Snoke: "That's for my son!")

Yes, Rey and Ben would have a particularly strong connection in the Force, but that wouldn't be the main point. That wouldn't be her 'superpower'. No, that would be her love for her family, which even when her memories were hidden, she missed, and it's her mission to piece her family back together again—helping Luke and Han reconcile, fighting to save Ben and the other Knights of Ren, who all turn out to be Luke's former students, making new family out of Finn and Poe. It's her love and determination that save the day, not her 'bringing balance to the Force'.

Yes, Ben will have to face consequences for his actions, even with the caveat of having his memory twisted. But Rey, and his parents, and Chewey are all with him.

Just... Rey remembering everything kind about him when they were kids, every time he apologized for the dark moods that sometime took him, how loving and careful he always was with her, and believing to the depths of her heart that that man was still in there somewhere, and that man could be restored... and Ben choosing to accept her forgiveness, to trust her when she says she'll go with him to find the truth, finding the strength to fight down the warped memories and the idea that he should kill her, and letting her lead him back into the light! Arghhh, yes.

Yeah, there is an age gap, but as they would be both adults by this time, I could 100% ship it, and am doing so right now. (Aka imagining them kissing in the last scene of the last movie...)

as for your question, thank you SO MUCH for asking!!

vulture and boone did not kick it off perfectly friendly at first, but it did not take long for them to grow closer. they still do bicker about this and that, they can be mad at each other for something (they both have TEMPER..) but first and foremost they are gentle and teasing and they fully trust each other without a shadow of a doubt! they remind onlookers of an old married couple, 'cause they can bicker in one moment and then lovingly sharing dinner and talking about their plans for tomorrow in the next instant. they be like that.

when it comes to tense and uncomfortable situations, they tend to rely on each other - boone can be rational and cold-blooded, something that the other lacks, and vulture can be quick-witted and empathetic (in order to quicky and quetly calm down a hostage, for example).

when they first met, boone thought that vulture's a little crazy and naive at the same time - and helpless, in some matters. he regarded the other with sceptisism, which vulture sensed and it caused him to close off. but then life threw some hard shit to deal with at them, and boone accepted that this man is not so helpless after all (later on, he accepted that vulture is, in fact, more mighty than he thought), and vulture opened up and learned that boone is not a threat but a protector (and a safest place he could ever find).

i got a little carried away with them 😭 OKAY now for vulture's other besties

veronica is a first friend vulture ever had! they met not long after vulture met boone (perhaps i will tell y'all about their first meeting some other time?), and honestly, they embody this rare friend dynamic where you are literally platonic soulmates and you almost never fight and just. live in total harmony. best buddies. they love to pull pranks on the others, and they tease each other constantly. if there's some mischief, they will be in it together, no doubt!

arcade's a bit different, though - i feel like when he got into vulture's party, he felt... off, at first. as if he did not belong in this established group of tightly bonded people (vulture, boone and veronica had travelled together for a lot beforehand). but vulture needed his help, so he pulled through. they dynamic started off as cautious and more bussiness-like than friendly (vulture was... tired and confused, at this point of his story) - they discussed politics, strategies, history, etc. but they will grow closer, because vulture is vulnerable, and arcade is kind and patient, and after some shit that they went through they developed a deep friendly bond. (and they started to tease each other mercilessly, too)

raul......... raul is really like a father-mentor-grandpa-uncle type of figure to vulture. raul was freaking flabbergasted by the kid at first - vulture broke into his impromtu prison cell and literally shoved some notebook at him the moment raul said something with a spanish accent. well, woulnd't you know it! turns out, vulture was mexican, in his sort-of-past life! vulture is ever-curious of anything that might be even loosely related to his past, so they bond over raul's stroies pretty much immideatly. raul is a tired old man, so they don't talk that much - more often than not, vulture would just get them both a beer and a meal and they would quietly eat together on a couch. or they would go out and raul would teach the kid some tricks with a revolver. typical dad activities, no?

i know that vulture's not friendly with cass (more like vice versa) and he adores lily. i just still haven't fleshed out their interactions well enough.

I'm just curious, I assume that the signs only disappear when both parties realise thehre soulmates? Cause otherwise the string and words would have vanished, right? It makes me wonder- I had suspected and then you confirmed in another ask that Sun and Moon are also soulmates, do they realise this? Cause I would imagine if they don't then there would be a sign of some kind still? Sorry I'm just curious as to how it works ^^'

I'm super happy to answer any and all questions !! The signs only go away once both parties realize and believe that they're soulmates, otherwise two people could bump into each other in a crowd and their marks would be gone without any way of finding one another again.

as for sun and moon's platonic soulmate situation, neither of them realize it, nor would it be something they're particularly worried about knowing or figuring out. There's no sign for them since they're sort of an enigma as far as soulmates go. They woke up in the very same moment, and up until that point, they'd been the same "person" technically. Like light mode and dark mode! So the universe doesn't really feel a need to connect them with any signs, they're already in that grey area of being either two people or one. That's about as close as two people can get! They wouldn't feel the need to label it, since its already such a natural state of being for them

Amphibia Platonic Soulmates AU Pt 1

I wrote a short intro for this AU and want to share it A) for itself and B) as an experiment to see if this makes me more motivated to write the next part. :P So here it is!

(If you read it and are up for commenting, I'd be interested to hear if the soulmate concept here seems intelligible. Hard to judge how much of the stuff in my head I put down on paper, especially from the POV of someone who considers it normal.)

At school, they’d been constantly doodling soulmark designs, drafting new variations on napkins and notebook pages, drawing them in marker on the backs of their hands (which wasn’t super realistic but was visible) and on each other’s shoulders (less convenient, but more like the real thing). It was the cool thing for all the girls in school to do with their best friends, but Sasha had come up with it first.

“It so doesn’t matter if we’re, like, fated soulmates,” she’d said one day at the start of middle school, sketching on top of her math notes during lunch. “We can make our own decisions, right? And show everyone else exactly who they’re dealing with.”

“That’s so cool, Sash!” Anne had agreed, leaning forward to look at her images. Marcy had beamed and nodded vigorously, already working away with her own pencil on design ideas.

Since then, they’d gone through dozens of “official” three-person soulmate marks - cheerleading pompoms, tennis rackets, dice, skateboards, musical clefs, names in English and Mandarin and Thai - drawn on their notebook covers, doodled during classes, sketched on their skin like the real thing. They’d do each other’s shoulders at every sleepover, letting the marks linger until the permanent marker wore off.

Every design had to be approved by Sasha before they put it on anywhere visible, of course - she had the best ideas - and usually the specifics were finalized by Marcy (“Your designs are just too…cutesy, Anne, we don’t wanna look like little kids”). But Anne had the steadiest hands in applying the marker.

“And we have to keep working on it,” Sasha would always remind them. “We want something really cool, really us, by the time we’re eighteen, right? Then we can finally get tattoos and they’ll never wear off.”

Anne…had maybe felt a little uneasy about that. Not that she didn’t want to! It sounded super cool! But the one time she’d mentioned it at home, her parents had looked disapproving in an uncomfortable way, and her mom had said gently, “Are you sure that’s something people should do for themselves? Soulmate marks are special, Anne, and if that’s not exactly what you have with your friends, I don’t think it would be right to pretend you do.”

But like…Shasha was right. Soulmates weren’t so super-rare that they had to be treated like some sacred thing! Soulmarks marked out people who were made to be your other halves, your kindred spirits, but not everyone had those. (Or at least they didn’t meet them, but the odds were way against you either way, so basically same diff.) And wasn’t it just as valid to have a mark for the people you’d chosen as your kindred spirits? The people you’d built those close bonds with by yourself, instead of by weird destiny-magic?

Anne thought it checked out, anyway. And Sasha and Marcy definitely did, and they were her best friends, and that was basically just as important as soulmates. To the three of them, anyway.

And then Anne got zapped to Amphibia (Sasha’s fading marker design still clear on the back of her hand), and met a little pink frog boy whose life she had to save, and who saved her life, and called her a hero and got her a place to sleep that wasn’t a cave…

And the day after meeting him, she was changing into her swimsuit, when she saw a funny patch of color on her skin out of the corner of her eye. A patch of bright blue, on her right shoulder…right where soulmarks were supposed to go.

"HUH."

Holy Shit, Oh My God, This Is a Long Ass Lore Post

Alrighty then. Thank you to @hikari-ni-naritai for the absolute plethora of questions. To be honest a lot of these are questions I never really considered before, so I gotta do a bit of digging around in my brain meat.

2.) How did they acquire their Echo?

I never thought of this before, but I now want Ishi to have acquired it after going on her investigation in Kugane to find her parents. She looked/asked around for an Auri couple for what felt like an enternity and one night as she went to sleep after a particularly fruitless day of questioning she had an incredibly vivid dream. A woman's voice, stars raining down from the sky, etc. The next day after walking through the Ijin District she witnessed a Garlean accosting some random passerby and she experienced her first Echo vision. She saw the same Garlean accusing her parents of espionage and took them into custody. The only lead she had after that was that they were taken somewhere called Castrum Abania.

3.) Does their Echo function like it does in the MSQ? Or is there a twist to it? 

I think Ishi's Echo would function like the one we have in game for the most part. But, I LOVE the idea that the Echo allows the character to see the different battle mechanics that we, the player, are able to see and that is why our WoL is so hard to beat in combat.

5.) Where are they from? What was their childhood like?

Ishi grew up in The Tail Mountains, the home of the Angura tribe, with her mother (Veda), father (Ashish), and step sister (Willow). She was a bit of a know it all and super arrogant when she was little because all of the adults in her life would heap praise on her and call her a child prodigy because of her natural aptitude for magic. After her parents found Willow abandoned and took her in she mellowed out a bit, but was still a bit prideful. She didn't have many friends because of her attitude, but the one friend she did have, Varun, saw the good in her and he was the only person she could be completely vulnerable around.

7.) How did they deal with Haurchefant’s death? 

.:Stars Align:. Ishi didn't personally know him that well. The only frame of reference she had for his character was through U'tala and how his death impacted her.

.:Diamond Aegis:. Ishi thought of him like another brother, very similar to Varun, both men being very bubbly and their strong willingness to defend the innocent. When he died she was devastated, but she didn't have time to mourn him properly so she was fairly cold and distant, she cut herself off from her emotions to an extant in order to continue on with the pursuit of Thordan.

11.) Were they more sympathetic to the dragons, Ishgardians, neither or both? 

100% sympathetic to the dragons. In my .:Stars Align:. timeline she straight up joined the heretics because Ysayle showed her the truth to the Holy See's transgressions. Though she did come to the conclusion that it was wrong that the innocents of Ishgard were going to be the ones to pay for the consequences of their ancestors deeds and that the Church was content with that if it meant Thordan stayed the Arch Bishop.

13.) Are they close with any of the other Scions? Who do they get along with the best? 

Ishi get's along with basically all of the Scions, but she is closest to Y'shtola, G'raha, and Alisaie. Y'shtola she sees as an academic rival and love's having intellectual conversation with her. G'raha is her platonic soulmate, they bring out best in each other. Alisaie is her pupil, in my canon Ishi was the one to teach her Red Magic, with X'rhun's help of course, put Ishi was her primary teacher.

I'm just gonna say that anytime I see Aymeric pop up on screen I act like a giddy school girl and leave it at that.

23.) Are there any side quest storylines that you’re particularly fond of or think of as being canon to your WoL’s experiences? 

The Hildebrand Quests are all canon for Ishi. I used to be of the opinion that the quests were too silly, but my partner and I did them all together and I was able to see the heart in them and have fun with the silliness.

29.) Did your WoL suspect anything was amiss with Urianger or the Crystal Exarch? Did they feel betrayed? Upset? When the truth finally emerged? 

She believed Urianger up until she overheard the argument between him and Y'shtola, if Y'shtola was able to tell something was off then it warranted concern. She even opened the door and joined in on the conversation too, if this concerned her safety and the safety of the group then she felt she should be privy to any information Urianger had.

The Exarch was a little more complicated, though Ishi did have her suspicions that he was in fact G'raha Tia she didn't push him on the matter. Hells, the last time they interacted she didn't even know if G'raha saw her as anything more than a work colleague or that he cared enough about her to keep secrets from her. So her initial interactions with him were very professional, but through his actions she could see that The Exarch was a genuinely good person. When she saw that she was right about The Exarch and G'raha being the same person it initially hurt, this person she cared about lied about who he was so she wouldn't try to stop him from killing himself to save everyone, to save people he would never get the chance to know.

31.) What were their first impressions of Hien? 

Ishi thought Hien was going to be another super serious noble who only cared about his royal duty, but seeing his warmth, kindness, and playful banter with Yugiri and Gosetsu made her reconsider that stance.

I wanted to get a bit more specific mentioning platonic f/os so even if I like many characters in sources like Obey Me, you can now see which characters I think my s/i would be the closest with :D!! I also played a bit with labels ig but I read this fic where Mammon said there was no need "to be anything" as long as we were in peace with each other and I felt that on a spiritual lvl so instead of overthinking how to label f/os sometimes I just put him as unlabeled lol I just love self inserting in his world being really close to him and he's my fav character of the game and all but ig it becomes hard sometimes to try to fit that into something so I said whatever, it's my little self insert world and they can do whatever they want that brings me comfort XD yknow, sometimes partnering concepts just feel off but at the same time I enjoy saying I am a Mammon simp cause I love the character so it's a bit of a mess in my brain sometimes, trying to make both my experience as a player and my s/i's fit for my best comfort

talking about labels, I've decided to put all the Golden Deer as platonic soulmates :D! I think it suits us all and all the unique bonds they form with each other, and I thought that the whole thing of my s/i probably having this huge feeling of admiration and loyalty towards Claude felt better like this somehow, like it's a part of my s/i lore and not so much about what their relationship can be or not? I dont know if this makes sense worded like this but it seems to work out in my head XD I still plan to someday develop my s/i's story a lot so who knows

anyway, FRIENDS AND FAMILY!! I feel like it's pretty obvious that I've started to play Honkai Star Rail because suddenly I got a friend, a brother and a father from there- listen everytime I see the Astral Express Family written in the groupchat I emotionally cry happy tears (also I wouldnt be surprised if i ended up also f/oing Himeko in the future lmao, I love found families can you tell)

from Genshin Impact I've officially added Thoma as a platonic f/o :D!! (my hearts craves to befriend kind characters, yes) I think my Genshin s/i is probably the one with the most lore right now so I'm excited to write about this in the future! well,,,,, actually my Super Mario Bros s/i also has some info around themselves already,,,,,, like would you believe me if I told you I was already making up s/i lore while still watching the movie,,,,, the self-shipper experience huh.....

Full house au roommate notes pt 1

Alright, time for the promised explanation as to my thought process behind who was roomed together and why I placed them where I did

It's probably not important to anyone but me but I did actually put a lot of thought into it, so, yeah

As usual, this will contain spoilers for my full house au

Ok so first of all, I'm just going to go ahead and throw this out there: Nancy and Jonathan aren't together in this au. To me it felt like they were on the verge of a breakup in canon, so I decided that they did break up at some point between the ending of s4 and the beginning of this au. And Steve and Nancy did not end up getting back together, despite their friends' suspicions otherwise. Everyone manages to stay friends, but things do get a bit awkward at times

All that in mind, I figured Nancy wouldn't want to room with either of those two, and some of the parents were kinda against boys and girls rooming together anyway (this is relevant to several of the other roommate pairings as well), so she ends up rooming with Robin (I like how their dynamic grew over s4 and I think they'd become good friends after everything).

So that gives us our first set of roomies (tho I will have further notes on Robin later)

Next, I think this one's pretty obvious and simple, since Jon and Argyle are best friends and Jon is the one Argyle has known the longest, those two ended up rooming together

For the most part I tried to make the pairings based on who was closest and/or had known each other the longest, with exceptions for other factors I had to keep in mind like kids/adults and boys/girls or situations like Rob & Nance

For the "adults," that only leaves Steve and Eddie left.

These two aren't super thrilled about being roommates (at first anyway), since Steve would have preferred to room with Robin* and Eddie is still a little unsure about where he stands with Steve (there's been a lot going on since spring break and he's been in the hospital for most of it, so they haven't had much of a chance to develop their friendship),

*Robin was also kinda disappointed about not sharing a room with Steve, her platonic soulmate and honorary brother, but she understands where Nancy's coming from and she does like Nancy, so she's ok with how things turned out. Besides, she hadn't been a fan of the look her parents exchanged when they found out she'd be moving into the same house as the guy friend they had been hearing about since the summer she worked at Starcourt

But they're both willing to take one for the team to prevent unnecessary drama (which seems sorta out of character for Eddie to be honest but Steve is just happy not to have to argue about it). The funny thing about that is- *gunshots*

As for where I placed each pairing- I wanted to put siblings in close proximity where possible, so I wanted Nancy on the same floor as Mike, Jon on the same floor as Will and El, etc (more on this in part 2)

So that's the reasoning behind my arrangement of the "adults" (I've gotta come up with a better collective term for these guys) in the household. I'll focus more on the kids in the next part

ps: if you're noticing the roommate pairings for the spicy six are all common ships... well, we'll call that foreshadowing ;)
