The Whitest Boy Alive – Dreams 2006. Bubbles. Alternativa.

Cuando un músico que tiene determinada trayectoria decide hacer una banda, es difícil separar sus trabajos anteriores con los de la nueva agrupación. Sin embargo, muchas veces la música es de tal calidad que, más que competir, complementa el trabajo anterior y le da una nueva identidad al proyecto. Tal es el caso de The Whitest Boy Alive.

Esta banda originaria de Noruega está formada por Marcin Oz (bajo), Sebastián Maschat (batería), Daniel Nentwig (órgano rhodes), y el conocido Erlend Oye (guitarra y voz) quien ya tiene en su haber excelentes credenciales como disc jockey (su compilación para la serie DJ Kicks recibió muy buenas críticas), así como compositor e instrumentista en otros proyectos no menos talentosos como Kings of Convencience. 

El sonido de la banda tiene la particularidad de no presentar altibajos y separarse de los proyectos anteriores de Erlend Oye, pero conservando sus bases funk. Como si la banda tocara en un cuarto pequeño, los acentos en cada tema son suaves sin ser un impedimento para presentar excelentes arreglos. El orden de los temas en Dreams, su primer disco, permite invita a involucrarse poco a poco. El bloque central, entre los temas 4 y 7, tiene una energía deliciosa.

Para los que quieran escuchar a The Whitest Boy Alive en vivo, los siguientes dos meses tendrán oportunidad de hacerlo: Ciudad de México (27 de febrero y 3 de marzo), Guadalajara (24 de febrero), Monterrey (27 de febrero) y Tijuana (1º de marzo).
