Lake Michigan is a bit cold right now, so this mermaid has crawled out of the water in search of warmer places... and what better spot to go than an old abandoned building with a giant heat radiator!?! 🖤 . I've been working on some personal projects (for the fam too). One includes writing down a bunch of poetry in a book for use in a costume. This little bit of poetry has been playing over, and over again in my mind - not just because I've rewritten it a bazillion times! . I don't know exactly what it means, but I interpret it as meaning that by enjoying even the littlest of things we have the power to slow time. It really resonates with me. I mean... I'm pretty sure we've all experienced that before, right? A moment in life that was so sweet and so perfect that it seemed to outrun time itself. Eternity in an hour. . In these dark times, it is especially important to appreciate the little things, the people and the moments of good in our day to day life. And not only that, it is important to be that beautiful wild flower amidst a field of dead grass... provide that glimmer of hope, shine down rays of Heaven on earth. I know it can be easy to get frustrated when you're stuck in one place for so long and surrounded by so much doom and gloom... but remember that contributing to the darkness wont help bring about a positive change. Be the light in the darkness for your family, your friends, your community and the world. As @brendonburchard says... "bring the joy." We need that now more than ever. 🖤 . Let me tell you a secret... I don't know who I am, what I am or where I've come from. When people ask me about my heritage, I don't know how to reply. I'm a splash of German, a touch of Scottish, a TINY 1% Norwegian and a whole ton of mystery on my mom's end. . It shouldn't bother me, but the fact that I don't know much about my past does frustrate me at times. . This week, I've spent time learning about other cultures and traditions. I've learned about the Japanese Maiko, Geiko and Tayu. I've learned about Algerian wedding ceremonies and Romanian witches. I've learned of the Kumari in Nepal and have invested time in learning about Native American reservations in the west. . I love that there are still many people and places in the world that honor and pass down traditions from long, long ago. To be honest, I'm a bit envious too. I don't know much of anything about my bloodline... where we come from, things we celebrated or traditions we once took part in. I think that is part of the reason why Gothic Fashion, Mermaiding and the DMC Community (shoutout to my Devil May Cry fam) resonate with me. They give me a sense of community and culture where previously there was nothing. It is an odd thing to think about, perhaps...? I hope to learn more about my roots as time goes on. Regardless, I'll likely always remain a dark-hearted mystery mutt of a mermaid who hails from Lake Michigan. 🙃 . Do you know about your past or ancestral roots? We interrupt these mermaid videos to bring you an over-edited fairy picture! 🧚🏻‍♀️ I had some fun editing this photo today that was take right after my trip to Singapore last year for @asiadiveexpo 🖤 This picture was taken on my mom's phone after a fairy birthday party. While we were taking pictures at the @thevillagetc (outside, under a set of stairs) we were stopped by a family who wanted to get pictures too. The little kiddos in the group were SO excited to see a real fairy that they were jumping with joy. Afterwards, I was flying high too. It is always great to know that you are partially responsible for brightening someone's day and creating everlasting memories of magic. 🖤 This is why I love being a fairytale performer so much.... creating smiles and happiness is part of what I get to do. I like to think it helps make the world a better place, little by little. More happiness, more imagination, more belief that anything is possible. That's what the world needs. . So to all of my fellow performers who get made fun of or teased for what they do... or for those of you who don't think you're doing much to change the world, remember the value of a smile. October is almost over already... I can't believe it!! 😮 It has always been my favorite month, although it is one I am scarcely able to enjoy due to how busy it typically is.
