We enjoyed a great day walking around the Toronto Zoo, where we stayed cool despite a heat wave with iced drinks and easy foods like fries and cheese breads, and we got lots of photos and footage for inspiration for drawings, sculpting and writing. @thetorontozoo [Not a sponsor]

We want to thank the many guests and Zoo members who sent us video and photographs from the orangutan habitat as they have been instrumental in helping us better understand how Kembali, the male orangutan was able to climb down the tower and access the area just outside the habitat. We are also grateful to Zoo staff and volunteers for their quick actions once they were notified of the incident.

Here’s a very chubby purple Pygmy hippo.🦛 I don’t know why, but I like making hippos purple even if they’re not really that colour.😆 🌱 Some interesting Pygmy hippo facts: - A common hippo weighs about 10 times as much as a Pygmy hippo - They’re solitary and nocturnal, and live in lowland forests close to rivers - Their closest living relatives are whales and dolphins - They are Endangered and found in fragmented populations in western Africa 🌱 My favourite recent zoo baby is definitely Penelope the Pygmy hippo from @thetorontozoo. This is a #Repost from @woodlandparkzoo ・・・ Sisters. Twins. Floofs! Zeya and Ila are showing keepers signs that they are ready to become independent red pandas. The last day to see these two before they head to @thetorontozoo and @newzoogb is April 14. The red pandas have completely stolen our hearts, and although we’ll be sad to see them go, we are very happy that as part of the Species Survival Plan, they will be able to begin their new adventures where they can eventually have their own families. Seeing the cubs grow up together is a joy, but we have to remember that not all animals share our human desire to stick close to family as they mature. Red pandas are primarily solitary, except during mating. We wish Ila and Zeya all the best!
