fr like. i feel like to criticise just about anything on the post is a complete waste of time because it's quite blatantly just. wrong. it's not even media literacy at this point it's like. common sense KLFLFKJDKLFSDLK

more than anything i was so fascinated by both sides of the argument of like 'annabeth is bad for percy' and the FAR less popular 'percy is bad for annabeth' because it rly does show u how easy it is to find an excuse to defend smth u believe in rather than paying attention to what's in the text?

sorry i'm going off on a bit of a tangent but it's very common in fanfic and obviously i'm not claiming to be immune to it but very often characters– especially those with complex canon development– are diluted into one single trope or feature because many people not only find that easier to digest but also zero in on one thing about a character and extrapolate it into a personality.

like a big, BIG one is annabeth's fanon interpretation because pjo came out approximately at the height of harry potter's fame so people saw Smart and decided annabeth was the hermione to percy (the Protagonist)'s harry. and the thing is, without context, with isolated quotes– they can prove it. "canon" text that says annabeth is exactly like hermione, tumblr posts about parallels– it's not hard. it's just so fascinating to me to see how people will blatantly misconstrue text to support ideas they come into the world already expecting idk slkfhjksfdsf
