Ok so you knew this was coming but either heisuke/chizuru or sannan/chizuru because both bae's need love of some sort and chizuru too ;-;
Sannan x Chizuru because I’ve never tried writing SanChi before.Words: ~1000 | Read on Fanfiction HERE (Ch 2 of Hakuouki Vignettes)
Note: I am about to play Sannan’s route in Shinkai (but haven’t yet).
The Importance of a Meal
After the injury to his arm, it was only due to Chizuru’s patience and persistence that Sannan had begun to eat his meals with the others again. The situation had changed again after he had taken the ochimizu and become a rasetsu.
For a while, Okita-kun had insisted on being present when he woke up, which had been frustrating but understandable. What had really surprised the Shinsengumi Deputy Commander, however, was that eventually–once he had started waking in the evening and sleeping during the day– Chizuru had begun to arrive with his breakfast.
“You do not need to do this,” he had told her the first time she had arrived at his quarters not long after the sun had set.
“I understand, Sannan-san,” she had replied, in the quiet but slightly… determined… tone that he had heard before. “However, you no longer eat your meals with the others and they are all concerned about you. Again.” There had been the mildest emphasis on the last word.
“They know why I am not there, Yukimura-kun,” Sannan had retorted, trying to sharpen his tone in an effort to rebuff the girl’s effort to make her actions seem connected to the well-being of the Shinsengumi.
“If you were to arrive in the common room when you rose, Sannan-san, I would be happy to bring you your breakfast there.”
It had been a baffling answer. Not in the immediate sense–Sannan was a veteran of verbal gamesmanship and had understood why she had simply refused to deal with his statement, since in itself it was irrefutable. What had puzzled him had been why she had persisted. Her place with the Shinsengumi wasn’t precisely secure, but by that point it was certainly well-established. She didn’t need to bring him food in order to gain enough sympathy to protect her life.
“Yukimura-kun, I do not wish to stumble over you every day–or evening!–when I wake up. Do I make myself clear?”
Those had been his words, and he had thought that he’d made his sentiments quite plain. Two days later, however, she had brought him his breakfast at ten in the evening. In his rooms. He had expostulated, and she had bowed politely and gone away–leaving the food with him, just as she had done when he had injured his arm. He hadn’t bothered to ask for her reasons. He had known that she would insist that by waiting until he had been up for some time, she was obeying his wish not to be bothered when he had just woken up.
Somehow, he hadn’t been surprised when she had turned up the next evening as well. The only thing that had surprised him–and bothered him–was that for some reason he had hoped that she would show up despite his grumblings. That evening he had tried a different tactic, and had ignored her entirely. She had ignored him ignoring her, although it had meant that she had waited some time before leaving his room. It wasn’t until much later, in the middle of a delicate experiment, that it occurred to him that he had allowed her to come in to begin with. His feelings of unease had grown–she always asked politely before entering, so why had he told her to come in only to ignore her once she was there?
Tonight, he found himself on edge, his eyes straying to the window to judge the time by the sliver of moon that had risen. It was better than turning to look at his clock (an expensive and treasured belonging), which would force him to recognize his anxiety–or whatever it was–as something other than anticipated irritation. Was he going to deny her entrance?
“Sannan-san? It’s Chizuru with your meal.” There was a pause and Sannan found himself clenching his teeth so as not to tell her to enter.
She defeated him despite his care, however. After a suitable pause, Sannan heard a murmured: “Shitsurei shimasu.” Then Chizuru entered, bowed, and deposited the tray with his breakfast. Almost against his will, Sannan turned to watch her. He could see that she was slightly frightened; she knew–or thought she knew–that he would be angry with her. Which he should be. He shouldn’t have to give her a direct order to prevent her from disturbing him. She was not unintelligent.
“Arigatou gozaimasu, Yukimura-kun,” he said, instead of delivering the short but blistering reprimand that he had intended.
Chizuru looked up into his face, obviously startled. Then she managed a small smile of relief, which brightened her soft brown eyes and made her look quite pretty, even in her boys’ clothing.
“You are very welcome, Sannan-san. I hope you will enjoy the food.”
Sannan nodded and gently touched her shoulder before she could bow again and take her leave.
“I will consider eating–or at least having tea–with the others whenever it is dark enough during the evening meal time. Will that relieve their anxiety?” He couldn’t help a slight, dubious stress on the word “their”, which Chizuru naturally ignored.
“Yes, thank you Sannan-san. If I do not see you at dinner, I will bring your food here. I promise to be very quiet–in case you are working.”
He noticed that she refrained from asking his permission. For some reason this didn’t bother him the way that it should have, though. He also noticed that he was still touching her and quickly dropped his hand back to his knee.
“Very well, Yukimura-kun, since you seem so determined on the matter. Good night.”
“Oyasumi, Sannan-san,” replied Chizuru. He thought he detected a hint of something like fondness in her tone and cursed himself for a fool. Fortunately, she bowed and left before he could do anything truly foolish.
Sannan stared at the closed door for a few minutes after Chizuru left, even though his food was cooling beside him. He reminded himself again that his life, such as it was, was wholly dedicated to the Shinsengumi. There was no room for personal attachments. Besides, if–if–he cared about the girl at all, he would make sure to keep her as far away as possible. He had made his choice and was no longer a creature who walked in the light as she did.

I know I rarely post cosplay but I recently designed a character who wears an outfit similar to Okita. Its not a top notch photo but I felt really nostalgic when I was looking for reference pics and immediately resorted to searching Okita's name. I decided to put on the cosplay. It doesnt quite fit where it used to but I am soooo so happy that I pulled it out again. I first wore it in my Freshman year of high school. This year, my senior year, I dropped out and I have been under alot of stress. I lost my job and have been pretty unstable but its the times when I put on an outfit just because that I feel really at ease. Also, shoutout to my onee-chan! @thesweateristoobig

Changes (closed)
Closed RP between @hakuouki-myu and @oniofcompassion/@thesweateristoobig Note: so this is probably a day or two before Chizuru’s first semester at Hakuou, which means we can mess around and have all kinds of conflict and resolution as well :3 I figured if I did it that way, we could have a well rounded story, and since I picked up a few new skills I can grab up some other characters and stuff :3
Sometimes it was hard for the brunette to take him seriously, his actions on the edge of extreme clumsy, or he would brush her off to avoid certain topics and seem flighty. Heisuke however, had been acting even more strangely, after finding out that she was going to be joining him at Hakuou Academy, when the school opened it’s gates this coming spring...as a co-ed school. “It’s okay you know,” she laughed lightly, as she smiled at him, “It’s not as if you won’t be there to protect me from the horrors of Okita-senpai, or the other senpai’s.”
Carefully she reached over and took his hands in hers, “I’m just glad I get to spend more time with you Heisuke-kun.” she offered him a warm smile. Sure they lived next door to each other, but between school and his Kendo practices...they barely had time to hang out. “Now I don’t have to make up an excuse to come over here,” she offered with a shrug, “I might be a year younger than you senpai,” she paused to tease him just a little, “but you can always help me with my homework.” the thought of it all made her so excited.
“This is going to be the best school year ever.”

Reassurance ~ A Pre-SaiChiFest 2018 Drabble!
by Impracticaldemon
Words: ~ 1150 | FFnet | AO3
Author's Note: This piece was written as a short sequel to The Ghost.
Anxiety isn't easily overcome. Unfortunately, Saitou isn't the best at verbal reassurance, nor does he provide much in the way of non-verbal cues. Fortunately, he's very fond of Yukimura and apparently willing to learn and improve.
~ Impracticaldemon
Reassurance
Dinner was something of a strain for Saitō and Chizuru. Doctor Matsumoto had many questions for Saitō—who almost certainly found the attention oppressive—and the doctor's wife was by turns too respectful and too wary of their thin, plainly-dressed guest. However, by the end of the meal, both the doctor and his lady had noted the fatigue on Saitō's face and the anxiety in Chizuru's eyes, and not only was the meal concluded in good time and with good grace, but Chizuru was absolved of the need to clean up and help with the dishes.
"We'll speak more tomorrow, Saitō-san," the doctor said amiably. "You won't admit it—none of you ever would!—but you're just waiting to fall over. Chizuru-chan will show you to your room."
Saitō murmured a polite thanks and rose, Chizuru following suit. If Matsumoto-san was surprised that her husband had asked Chizuru, a young woman of whom he was very fond, to escort a man of Saitō's blood-stained reputation to his room, then she was far too well-bred to comment. Besides, it was a sweet, romantic kind of tale.
Chizuru, for her part, had been restless throughout dinner. She was still torn between happiness and fear of being too happy, and uncertainty about the meaning of the kiss shared before dinner. Anxiety was foremost in her mind as she automatically guided Saitō down the short hallway and around the corner to the guest room.
"If you give me a moment, I will set out the bedding for you, Saitō-san."
"There is no need."
Chizuru stared at him, willing herself not to cry. Then… earlier—outside—the kiss—what he had said… had she misunderstood? Or was it simply that he wanted some time to himself right now?
Correctly interpreting her expression, Saitō became a little flustered. "Ah—no—Yukimura-san… I didn't mean it that way. I just meant that it would be no trouble for me to set up the futon myself. There is no need to trouble yourself on my account."
The young woman—she didn't realize how unnerving and distracting it was to see her in her neat women's clothing—suddenly looked less forlorn and more angry.
"I've waited for you for over two years, Saitō-san! What if I want to trouble myself? Don't I get a choice?"
Taken aback, Saitō could only repeat her words back to her. "You want to trouble yourself? I don't understand."
"Obviously not!" snapped Chizuru. "You just want to c-come back from the dead and have everything go back to being the same, but that's not possible!"
Apparently bewildered, Saitō said nothing.
"I'm twenty-one now, Saitō-san. And I'm a competent nurse and a good cook and I can look after a house, too!"
"Yes?"
"So there's no reason for you to send me away, or, or to refuse to let me come with you. You're going to Edo—gomen, Tokyo—and thanks to Matsumoto-sensei I still own my father's—my foster father's—house there. And I still have most of the money that K-Kondō-san gave me—Hijikata-san refused to take it—so I'm sure I can fix up the house and then—"
Saitō put his hands on Chizuru's shoulders. A strange idea was forming in his mind.
"Are you asking me to"—to marry you? No, that sounded all wrong—"to live with you in Tokyo?"
Chizuru stared at him, shocked out of her fit of anxiety-induced frustration. She could feel the flush start to spread across her cheeks and creep up into the tips of her ears.
"Ah! N-no? I mean yes, if you want? I was being terribly forward, I am so sorry—"
"Why are you apologizing? You have done nothing wrong." Saitō swallowed, and tried to express some of the thoughts he'd had over the past two years. "I was not clear earlier." His hands tightened a little on Chizuru's shoulders, as though trying to communicate ideas that weren't easy for him to say out loud.
Chizuru continued to look up at him, although she was still very embarrassed by her outburst. When Saitō didn't speak, she said tentatively, "You don't want to let me go?"
"That is correct. I would have—no, should have—said something sooner, but…" He'd still been putting his thoughts in order after dinner. Determined, now, he pressed on. "Will you come with me to Tokyo?" When she didn't respond immediately, he added, "It might not be as comfortable as staying here, but I am not entirely without resources."
"…Resources?"
"Yes—letters of introduction from good men, who believe that I will have no difficulty finding work within the new government. And enough money to travel without, ah, without having to count every coin." He wanted to say, Without having to spend what Kondō-san gave you for yourself!, but she might not understand.
"Oh, of course."
They spent several minutes—or at least it seemed that long—caught up in trying to figure out what the other person wanted to hear. Then Chizuru reminded herself that Saitō had asked an important question, and was probably waiting for her response, and fretting over it (not that one could tell).
"Saitō-san?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you for asking me to come to Tokyo with you. I want to go with you very much. You can decide later if we should stay in my old house or not." Chizuru's hands were clasped in front of her, and she put everything she could into convincing him of her sincerity.
Saitō looked very relieved. Then he reddened a little. "… Do you mind if I…" He moved forward, so that his arms were wrapped loosely around Chizuru's shoulders. "Ah...Is it okay if..."
With sudden recklessness, and a need to show Saitō how she felt, Chizuru rose on her toes slightly to close the distance between them, pressing her lips against his. It wasn't a perfectly successful kiss—since Saitō rocked back on his heels in surprise—but it served its purpose. A moment later, he'd evidently decided that she didn't mind, and this time there was far less reserve than he'd shown earlier. She had no experience with passionate kisses, but this one seemed very good to her, and she felt her lips part hungrily and her breath catch. Instead of giving in to either shyness or embarrassment, she wrapped her arms as tightly around Saitō as she could, determined to make herself as clear as she could, no matter what.
Eventually, they needed to breathe. They were both flushed, and even Saitō seemed a little giddy. He was smiling broadly—almost grinning. It sat oddly on his usually impassive features, but Chizuru felt an upsurge of affection—of love—at seeing it. "Satisfactory," she murmured, using one of Saitō's favourite expressions from the past.
"Yukimura?" The smile vanished, and the dark blue eyes suddenly betrayed uncertainty.
"Nothing…"
"I wasn't going to say that."
"Was it not satisfactory?" she teased. Wait—am I really teasing Saitō-san?
To Chizuru's relief, he took her mild joke in good part, and without the absolute—though endearing!—seriousness that had sometimes made him seem unapproachable before. For all of that, his response was heartfelt.
"It was wonderful. Thank you."

kazama sent A drunk text no.18 to chizuru 💌
A drunk text letter from Kazama to Chizuru
Dear Wife-to-be,
Amagiri has suggested that I should try communicating with you before coming - again - to fetch you in person. Thus, I am writing both to spare myself further lectures, and just in case a letter might actually persuade you to think more carefully about your present situation. [Ed.’s Note: There is a slight gap here, as though the writer had already moved on and then remembered the customary opening salutation. The next sentence is written in a rather cramped script; while the grammar remains impeccable, the sentiment is not entirely felicitous.] Also, I hope the unseasonably windy weather has not troubled you as you go about your menial tasks for the ridiculous peasants with whom you have chosen to associate.
As your current living arrangements are entirely inappropriate to your position as a pure-blood, high-born Oni female, I believe that my proposal to remove you to more advantageous quarters should be welcome. The fact that you rejected my generous and well-intended offer at our last meeting suggests that you have not been blessed with the keen intelligence once ascribed to your Clan (this last according to Amagiri, to whom I will not show this letter, as he has demonstrated a woeful lack of understanding of the need to explain our relative situations to you as plainly as possible). [Ed.’s Note: It is debatable which is worse, the convoluted and lengthy prose or the problematic sentiment conveyed.]
Although I feel that I am simply repeating self-evident truths, I must draw your attention to the fact that if you insist on remaining with the vulgar, foolish men you have chosen as your companions, you risk being drawn into the idiocy of their attempts to prop up the rotting putrescence that is the Bakufu. As an Oni, especially one of noble birth, you should remain aloof from such matters. I can only hope that my words here are able to open your eyes to reality. Humans are contemptible creatures, fueled by ego and greed; you do not belong with them, especially when an Oni of my rank and power has offered you a home and a noble purpose.
In closing, I look forward to receiving a note expressing your desire to leave the Shinsengumi at once. Despite Amagiri’s assurance that a letter might convince you of the purity of my motives, I am doubtful of such a rational outcome. You seem to be quite unreasonably attached to your human playmates. I have even begun to wonder if it is the hair that draws you to them - it is a wonder that the snarling dog that leads them has yet to foul his blade in his own mangy pony-tail and accidentally cut off a limb (or his head) in the process. Though I grant you that he is at least marginally more imposing than the puppy whose hair could no doubt be woven into numerous shirts for young children.
[Ed.’s Note: The letter loses what is left of it’s “flow” at this point, and digresses into a commentary on the many advantages to shorter hair. As far as this Editor can make out, the point is to remind Yukimura-san not to be fooled by “effete, overlong tresses that are intended to be dramatic but are instead a sad reflection of the wearer’s lack of confidence in other areas.” The “other areas” are not specified.]
Yours sincerely,
Kazama Chikage
Imp’s Note: I’m not sure how much sake it would take for Kazama-san to reach the point of writing such an epistle. However, while the Editor is manifestly unimpressed, I believe that Kazama-san deserves quite a lot of credit for his many elegant–if sometimes unfortunate–turns of phrase.

TokuMob 18 from Souji to Kondo?
A drunk text from Souji to Kondo. TokuMob™ **
** Serving Samurais Since the Sengoku.
Kondou-san
Hope i didn’t wake u up. Just had to ask.
We didn’t get to choose with yagi house and I’m not saying u made the monks fix up Nimi Honganwi Honjon Howon that big mother of a temple.
But when they built this place for us u got to pick stuff right?
So why does every place we live have to be purple inside the rooms? It’s all because of *him* isn’t it? He’s always making you do things you don’t want to do.
Like why not green? Or blue? Not yellow though - Heisuke has horrible fashion sense tbh. Red would at least hide the bloodstains. Or you know it would be really funny to use that light blue kind of colour and then people could pretend not to see Yamazaki even when he wasn’t dressed like a ninja. Talk about melodramatic with that black headscarf thing i’m guessing that Hijikata-san just wanted to have some
guy running around in black pajamas because it had *style* or something tbh almost makes me feel bad for the poor schmuck.
[Editor’s Note: At this point it appears that Saito-san removed Okita-san’s phone from Okita-san.]
I am sorry Kondou-san, Please ignore the above information. [Saito]

(Text Meme) 💌no.10 from kazama to chizuru
A loving text letter from Kazama to Chizuru ♥
Note: Contribution to the Inaugural KazaChi Ship Week hosted by @hakuoukishippingweek !
My dear Chizuru-sama,
The cool autumn wind blows the leaves along the streets and reminds me that I am back in Edo after several months in the far south. I may one day learn to call this city Tokyo, but more likely I will not bother. I have no need to appease the sensibilities of the human Emperor, after all. (Ah, I can see you smile with fond disapproval at that comment - quite a feat! You continue to believe that my views on the empty vanity of humans are themselves vanity, I’m afraid.)
I will not ask after your health, as I saw you yesterday and an Oni of your lineage is unlikely to be unwell. Nevertheless… I was sorry to see you looking rather tired and thin. I do not dare comment that this is the result of trying to live a lonely, human life, for fear that the lovely but overly-belligerent Sen-hime will descend upon me with her fan, despite being miles away in Kyoto.
[Ed.’s Note: It is remarkable how often people say that they won’t comment while in the midst of commenting. Also, such comments are rarely favourable.]
I will visit you again later today, so that we can continue to discuss what our next steps together should be. You will note the use of the word we, which is intended to assure you that I have not forgotten that although you appear to be demure and rather shy, you prefer to be consulted about certain matters (i.e., most things!), rather than leave decisions to your husband-to-be. I suppose that you believe this to be a reasonable preference, and I am more disposed to agree than I was in the past.
I am not always good at expressing myself, Chizuru. Moreover, I am not a sentimental man, and that makes me appear cold to you. The Shinsengumi of whom you were so fond were undeniably sentimental men, which I believe appealed to you. Nevertheless, after all of the months that we spent together searching for those overly-sentimental fools men,** I cannot help but know that you embrace sentiment with fervour and are an immensely empathic creature. Therefore, I will allow myself the indulgence of sentimentality for a moment to say that I have come to admire you greatly. You show the true courage and steadfastness of your family. I believe that your Clan would be proud of you.
[Ed.’s Note: Kazama-san followed in the steps of the Shinsengumi for an extraordinarily long time for a non-sentimental man. Even supposing the journey to have been in part on Chizuru’s behalf, which was not the case at the beginning, the Editor must admit to skepticism regarding Kazama-san’s claim to only marginal interest in the Shinsengumi. There are different types of sentiment, after all. Even Kazama-san’s determination to marry Chizuru strongly suggests a significant depth of sentiment, at least for traditional Oni beliefs.]
Six months ago, I kissed you to remind you that we had developed a bond, something quite apart from any requirement to marry for the sake of our people (as real as I still believe that to be). Strangers may wed, and often do, but I hoped to convey a particular understanding of and affection for Yukimura Chizuru.
Yesterday, I kissed you because there was such joy and relief in your eyes when you turned and saw me. You are utterly transparent, Chizuru! Perhaps I should not have taken advantage of such a moment, but I cannot truly regret or even condemn my actions, especially as it was extremely pleasant to eat dinner and spend the evening in your company afterward.
What I am trying to write is that I hope that our true first kiss is not long delayed. That is, I look forward to the first kiss that is neither an assurance nor (as some would see it) stolen from you. A shared kiss. I can hear you now, Chizuru, saying that this is sentiment! Perhaps it is. I would call it the logical next step, although… honesty impels me to confess that I wish for it with more emotion than logic can reasonably explain.
I will see see you in the early afternoon at your father’s home. Tea is more than acceptable to drink, since it is clear to me after yesterday evening that you keep little decent sake on hand and have neither the head nor the palate to enjoy it. [Ed.’s Note: The brusqueness of this final comment suggests that Kazama-san felt impelled to restore a less “sentimental” tone to the letter.]
Most sincerely,
Kazama Chikage
** The Editor notes that only modern restoration techniques were able to uncover the original word.

Beeep!! #3 from Okita to Sannan.
A scared text from Okita to Sannan. 😳
Sannan-san
Ochimizu side effects???
I saw Hijikata-san working late and offered to bring him food!!
No big deal since I was getting breakfast anyway but srsly?!
I thought going crazy would be about blood not being nice to Hiji-mama-san!
Tell me this is NOT a fury thing ok? I need to know!
Okita
PS The look on his face tho!
Editor’s Note: This seems like an overreaction to offering assistance to a superior officer. Which in itself offers insight, of course.

TokuMob 18 from Saitou to Hijikata?
A drunk text from Saitou to Hijikata (via TokuMob™)
Vice Commander:
I wish to request information on a tactical matter. Souji is curious as well and suggested that asking directly was the most efficient approach. He offered to text instead but his manner was not repset respetf respectil good.
How do you ensure that your hair always blows back from your face at the most effective moments and in a manner calculated to intimidate and demoralize your opponents?
I have attempted to observe your Dramatic Hair technique without success. While it does not readily suit my personal style all forms of combat are of interest to me.
Thank you, Vice Commander.
Saitou
Editor’s Note: It is truly a pity that the response to this most reasonable of questions (despite likely intoxication) has been lost to the flowing hair sands of time.

Beep! #9 from Hijikata to Saito.
A concerned text from Hijikata to Saito
Editor’s Note: Appears to be related to THIS event.
Saito
[Ed’s Note: Hijikata may have felt it wise to start including names with his texts after previous mishaps.]
Keep an eye on Souji will you? More than usual.
The whole fury thing worries me but tonight he was NICE to me and didn’t seem to be hiding anything or setting me up.
You can understand my concern. What’s wrong with him?
Let me know what you find out. I’ll ask Sannan-san if this is something he’s noticed with other new furies.
Maybe Souji’s just not feeling well (better than crazy right?).
More than he already was ofc.
Hijikata
Editor’s Note: Saito-san was known for undertaking difficult and distasteful tasks for the Vice Commander, but employing the captain’s talents to find out why Okita-san was nice seems odd.
