The hotel didn’t serve as the Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick’s film adaption but it inspired King to write the novel „The Shining“ when he spent there one night with his family as the only guests before it was closed for winter. In Room 217 he had a nightmare and woke up sweating all over but with a story in his mind... Ok - for those of you wondering where we stayed the last couple nights (some of you know already) - here's a shot of the Stanley Hotel. A really cool, yet really creepy old hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Stephen King stayed there and got the inspiration for "The Shining" during his visit. (In fact the made-for-tv version of "The Shining" was filmed on location here.) It has an incredible past and was definitely worth the visit...and take a tour or two while you're there - you'll get so much more out of it.
