The gusset. Sewn somewhat loosely by hand, the gusset should add reinforcement at the bottom of the shirt where the front and back join, but not restrict the wearer for comfort. It's funny, in some cases technology improves and elevates, whilst in others it subtracts. Shirts go through an absolute beating throughout the day, and even moreso when washed. So for me, I prefer them constructed by machine at key stress points, and hand finishing where only I can see and enjoy it. Functional design. When Joe (@thefinerycompany) and I got together for the first time to conceive @thestandardoutfitters we challenged ourselves to develop a brand that combines the beauty, aesthetic and details of classic menswear with modern functionality (or rather, reality) and form. This is a picture of our first prototype safari jacket design in a trial cloth. We've incorporated an inverted box pleat with a waist band which allows the wearer to suppress at the waist without compromising on comfort. Its functional and looks pretty bad ass. @thestandardoutfitters will offer ready-to-wear, made-to-order and made-to-measure garments, and is coming very, very soon. #menswear #TheStandardOutfitters #safarijacket #prototype
