did you see sea of monsters? what did you think of it, was it good to the book?

i did see it! i honestly don’t think it did the book justice, i really don’t :( it was a good movie and it was pretty funny for a film aimed toward a younger audience, but in terms of accuracy i personally don’t think it was good to the book

the filmmakers did a good job covering up the mistakes that they made from the first movie. HOWEVER, for some reason, they kind of decided to pile on even MORE inaccuracies on top of the ones that were already there and i feel like they will cause huge problems along the way — assuming we’re going to get a third film

the movie ended in way that i think a third film would be possible, though, so that’s a plus (although i don’t think anyone would want to see a third after the first two received such negative feedback). they left tons of plot holes, but i was definitely able to tell that they did it on purpose, as if they were leaving an opening just so that they’d be able to make future films

that’s kind of the general overview that’s what i thought of it personally! SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT

the reason why i feel so uneasy about there being a titan’s curse (and botl, tlo, etc. etc.) is because they decided to reveal the great prophecy really, really early on which i thought was a stupid move because it’s one of the most important elements to the story

percy was given the great prophecy in the sea of monsters instead of in the last book which was….kind..of….. i don’t know

it made me feel uncomfortable

not only that, but they kind of changed it up a little bit (age twenty instead of sixteen)

some of the inaccuracies i didn’t understand, though

in the movie riptide was previously owned by poseidon instead of hercules. that reaLLY REALLY ANNOYS ME because we learn more about riptide’s origins in the titan’s curse

i could go on and on forever, forrEEALl, but i think i’m just being nitpicky! regardless of the mistakes, i really enjoyed the movie and i liked it a lot more than the lightning thief :)

EDIT: oh, the characterization was done WONDERFULLY, by the way! so much better than the first film. i especially loved tyson and clarisse, i thought they did the best with those two. and i loved the relationship between percy and tyson, as well as percy and clarisse

i thought they could have done a better job with annabeth. i’m not 100% satisfied with her, but
