Hi! I would love to hear your thoughts/predictions/hopes for s3, now that we got the episode titles :D
Hey Nora!! Let me go grab my tua theory hat real quick. Spoiler alert, it looks exactly like the umbrella hat on the 3 right here:
Tumblr media
Full disclosure, I've only got like a pinky toe in the tua fandom right now, but I'm still going to see what BS I can spin from these titles.
1. MEET THE FAMILY. The description on imdb is "The siblings get to know some more of the 43 children in an alternate timeline." So, I think this is pretty self-explanatory. Netflix likes to start things off with a bang, so s3 of TUA will probably be no different: we'll probably get a vague flashforward/flash-sideways to a "what if" scenario that will make sense by the last few episodes, and the rest of the episode will be sowing seeds for the s3 plot. The big question is, what family are we meeting? I think this episode will revolve around themes of family (no-brainer) and redefining the relationships between our Umbrella siblings in light of the season 2 finale, as well as their new Sparrow 'replacements'. To that end, initial Sparrow sibling parallels will be presented and subsequently complicated in this first episode. I also predict we'll see varying reactions to this alternate Reginald, as the Umbrella siblings are thrust into an outsider perspective that follows on from season 2.
2. WORLD'S BIGGEST BALL OF TWINE. This is going to be a multi-layered metaphor. I can feel it. It will no doubt refer to the plot that's about to unfold (is it an outside threat to both parties - the Umbrellas and Sparrows - from, say, the Commission, or is it more to do with the two rival Academies?), but I wonder if it also refers to the Wizard of Oz type scenario the Umbrella siblings find themselves in: they aren’t in Kansas anymore. (But you know what is in Kansas? The world's current biggest ball of twine.) Also kind of want to see Klaus knitting again in this ep - perhaps as a way to subtly re-address his ongoing addiction issues, especially now Ben is gone.
3. POCKET FULL OF LIGHTNING. This probably has to do with powers. Sparrow powers, Umbrella powers. There'll be a lot of new flexes in this season, so who this refers to is anyone's guess.
4. KUGELBLITZ. Here's where it starts to get interesting, because this title carries forward the subject of lightning from the last one. According to a very quick internet search, kugelblitz literally means "ball lightning" in German, and refers to both a) a glorified WW2 tank designed to take out aircraft (a certified Big Boi), and b) a theoretical black hole made from light/radiation rather than matter. So this is absolutely going to be a new, unseen power - probably from the Sparrows. Hopefully from Christopher because a cube executing a move named after a sphere just makes me chuckle. Ah, fun with shapes... But in addition, this power is probably going to pack a huge, debilitating punch to whatever narrative is underway at this point in the plot. I'll bet money that whoever wields this power is the tank character in their party or they are after this at least.
5. KINDEST CUT. This throws me back to the barber shop meta, I'm not gunna lie. Someone's going to get hurt, either physically or emotionally, and it's going to be the lesser of two evils. If it's a follow through on the barber metaphor, then Reggie will be the one to orchestrate it. Or, in a surprise twist, will he be the one gTetting hurt or being silenced? (Remember that cutthroat allegory that chases the siblings through the first season, particularly Allison and Klaus. It was about becoming voiceless.) 6.MARIGOLD. Big shout out to this post for spreading the word on the marigold symbolism. I'm pretty sure this will be Reginald backstory, which ties in with the creation of the Umbrella Academy. Also, because I'm a sucker for flower symbolism and reading into things, consider that marigolds:
a) fall into two families, the calendula which means "little clock" and the tagetes, which is named after the Etruscan prophet Tages. The Etruscans believed heavily in predestination - some events are set in stone, and cannot be changed. (Consider the way the apocalypse seems to always come for one set of siblings...) b) are named as such colloquially because they were offered in place of money to the Virgin Mary. (More divine imagery, and reference to a pure mother figure...) They are Mary’s gold. So maybe it’s a reference to Reginald’s wife, which would fit with the flashback scene we see in 1x10.  c) are a flower of duality. They have strong connections with the sun and resurrection, yet the marigold is thought to be a flower of grief because it blooms in autumn. Again, think about that flashback in the first season. At the end of the world and a wife dying, there was the promise of rebirth. d) It's also a very common flower. Remember, there's actually 43 siblings out there. We've only met 14.
Also Netflix loves to do this thing around the halfway point (usually episode 5/6) in a season they're producing. They'll switch up the narrative with a twist or turn that provides a new perspective. 7.AUF WEIDERSEHEN. Once again, a German connection. And, obviously, a goodbye. Considering the last season focused on Kennedy, are we going to get some earlier Cold War time-travel shenanigans? Or maybe WW2? I think Blackman has said something about the Berlin Wall, which is interesting. A country divided... Umbrellas and Sparrows allegory? But as an aside, I'm also kinda lowkey hoping it's a nod to Auf Weidersehen, Pet. If you don't know the show, here's the wiki summary for the first season:
Auf Wiedersehen, Pet is a British comedy-drama television programme about seven British construction workers who leave the United Kingdom to search for employment overseas. They find work on a German building site in Düsseldorf but despite promises of hostel accommodation, are forced to live in a small hut that reminds them of a World War II POW camp. The rest of the series is driven by the interactions and growing friendships between the various characters.
In episode seven, three of the “Magnificent Seven” visit an intercontinental hotel. Just saying. If s3 was to go this route, my money would be on Luther, Diego and Five getting up to shenanigans in this one. I miss 125 shenanigans.😢
8.WEDDING AT THE END OF THE WORLD. Honestly, I’m holding out hope that one of our fave siblings gets married. I feel like that’s a trap though... Actually I feel like it might actually be a trap. As in, this is when the rising action really kicks it up a notch. But also remember the title of 1x01: We Only See Each Other At Weddings and Funerals. Maybe the siblings get split up, possibly in episode 3/4, and they’re trying to reunite through episodes 5-7. Also thinking about hotels and apocalypses...  There’s something very fatalistic about these titles so far. I have a feeling that the B-plot or the subtext is going to reveal a lot more about Reginald’s history and the destruction of his world.
9. SIX BELLS. This makes me think of church bells, which is some nice continuity with the wedding of the last title. But church bells are rung for all sorts of reasons - as a call to worship, or in celebration or mourning, or to tell the time. (Thinking back to those marigolds suddenly.) But why six? Now I’m thinking of bell ringing (change ringing), and the way different bells have different cord lengths to control the time of their chimes. It’s a highly mathematical process. Will this episode be Five’s time to shine? Will he coordinate his siblings through a large attack? 10. OBLIVION. Does anything even need to be said about this one? Hotel Oblivion baby ✌✌ Any further theorising would require more knowledge of the coming plot tbh.
Edit: I wrote most of this at 2am, so I’ve just tidied it up a little. Thank you for the ask, Nora! This was fun to think about.

1, 8, 10, 18, and 29!
WOOO MORE ANIMU ASKS thanks Phoe!!
1. first anime you ever watched --Pokemon! TuT
8. anime character you are most like --aah lol I feel like I’ve answered this before (actually I know I have; I’ve reblogged these questions before but I couldn’t find any new ones orz;;;) so I’ll give my standard answer: I rlly don’t know if there’s any ONE anime character I’m most like because I find it really hard to describe myself AND I’ve never seen any character and instantly gone “wow this feels like me” SO I’ve consistently at least felt connected to Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service ever since I first saw the movie as a little girl, and I also sympathized with Inaba from Kokoro Connect pretty hard when I first saw that. I’ve also been told that I’m like Nano from Nichijou! So I guess...a mix of those three?
10. favorite anime animal sidekick --(kinda going with the musings above here lol but) JIJI!!!!!!!!!! Jiji my love, I love Jiji sm ToT <333333333
18.10 worst anime you have watched --HOOHOO So I did definitely answer this years ago but I have seen many more anime in the interim so...let’s see if I can come up with some NEW worst anime! |D IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER (and realizing that this is largely based on my own personal taste): -The Day I Became a God - Maeda’s really fallen off his game imo...it was just kind of bland up until the endgame and then it became actively offensive :/ -Lostorage incited/conflated WIXOSS - I really liked the first two seasons of WIXOSS (Selector infected/spread); I realize they’re not the most quality but they scratched an emotional itch for me and I really enjoyed them! But Lostorage was a huge disappointment; I didn’t even finish conflated and I don’t plan to, even with the reintroduction of selector character to the narrative...it just was bland and not well done. -Mahoutsukai no Yome - let me preface this by saying I LOVE MAHOUTSUKAI NO YOME; I started reading the manga in Japan and it’s extremely well written and interesting and I’d like to eventually finish it, BUT I put the anime adaptation here because imo it makes a pretty good case for an adaptation that’s TOO close to the manga not working. Animation is a different medium and if all you do is animate the panels as they were it’s not going to work; the animation was pretty and consistent, but the way everything was put together just...didn’t work. Reading the manga felt better and I never managed to finish the anime because of that. Even if you’ve read the source material, a good anime adaptation should make you excited to revisit the story again, and I just honestly never felt that here; I was bored. So...adapting a manga “word for word” does not a good anime make! -22/7 - SO much wasted potential. The hook in the first ep was really interesting! ...and then each new episode was just a flashback for each girl so by the time you got to the climax where they had to split the group up I didn’t FEEL anything because they weren’t developed in the present...it didn’t feel like they were friends so why should I care about them splitting up? I didn’t even finish it. -Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka - look; I like edgy shit as much as the next person, and I do love me some edgy magical girls from time to time, but Madoka this ain’t - DEEPLY unpleasant scenes of torture for no reason other than to be shocking, and while I can appreciate them trying to do something deeper with exploring their main character’s trauma it was just clumsy and unpleasant to watch. (...looks like those are all the new entries! so for the last 5 let’s dunk on some old favorites) -School Days - I should not have to explain why School Days is bad lmfao. I’m kind of glad I watched it just because of its place in history but it was not a fun experience -Narutaru - another for the “I like edgy shit but this is just unpleasant” category. -Yumekui Merry - this is more of a disappointment because I thought the style and character designs were really cool but the show itself was boring and underutilized them. Wasted potential. -Daybreak Illusion - ALSO a disappointment - I was REALLY into it while it was airing but the finale shit the bed imo. I do still really like the character designs tho. -Psycho-Pass 2 - Psycho-Pass 1 was fantastic. I haven’t bothered watching anything beyond that because of how disappointed I was in Psycho-Pass 2.
29. anime that deserves another season ---...mmk listen. For reasons that I have detailed multiple times across multiple posts I am not entirely sure I want another season of SE in full because of issues I have with the manga. But I do want more SE animation u feel me listen, BONES: I will win the lottery and then I will commission u to make more SE animation that adheres to my internal world and includes me because I am canon mmk mmk
UH OH YOU WANTED A REAL ANSWER OK (that is my real answer fools)
Ouran is fun there should be another season of Ouran

When Was the Last Time You Replaced Your Bike Helmet?
If you ride a bike and wear a helmet, you may have heard at some point—perhaps for vague reasons having to do with foam degrading, or maybe corrosion from salt or sweat—that helmets expire. Which is why we were surprised to learn, in the course of researching our recent bike-helmet guide, that John Larkin, an industrial designer specializing in helmets (including some iconic ones, such as the Giro Reverb and Schwinn Atlas), hasn’t replaced his helmet in more than 20 years.
“I ride a 1998 Trek Photon,” he mentioned via email, “which is the first helmet I ever designed. Light, good ‘perception of ventilation’ and ‘vintage’ all at once!”
Now Larkin may be an extreme case, but even the most trusted helmet safety resources do not agree on when to retire a seemingly undamaged bike helmet. The government testing body in the US, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), recommends replacing a bicycle helmet every five to 10 years. The Snell Memorial Foundation, which also certifies helmets for safety, states a firm five years. And many manufacturers tell you to get rid of your helmet after as little as three years.
So do helmets actually deteriorate or what? They do, but perhaps not in the way you might think. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to replace your helmet.
Replace it if you crash
The one steadfast rule when it comes to helmets: regardless of wear, if you crash while wearing a helmet, replace it. Cycling helmets are single-use safety devices. Once you compress the foam underneath the helmet’s plastic shell, it can no longer protect you. That’s true whether your helmet is 20 years old or you just bought it yesterday.
Any physical damage to the foam means your helmet can’t do its job. So you can and should, on a regular basis, inspect your helmet for damage or hairline cracks and replace as you see necessary.
But the problem is that you can’t see through that darn shell, which is why you should err on the side of caution after a crash: Even if the helmet remains visibly intact after a crash, the foam underneath the shell may have crumpled to absorb the force of the impact. And there’s no good way of telling if that foam has been compressed. So if you’ve crashed in a helmet, get rid of it. (We recommend cutting its straps off, so that no one can fish it out of the trash and use it or try to resell it.)
Remember, even if your helmet shows no visible signs of damage after a crash, you may very well have hit your head and not even know it.
“Bear in mind that if the helmet did its job, most people would tell you that they did not even hit their head, or did not hit their head that hard,” writes Randy Swart, the former vice chairman of the helmet and headgear subcommittee for ASTM International, a non-profit organization that develops technical standards, and one of the experts involved with the all-volunteer Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute.
It seems hard to believe at first, yet when I look back on my first major accident—I barreled into a truck turning in front of me—I do not remember the hit at all, and my helmet didn’t have any obvious signs of damage. But I hit the pickup truck hard enough to crumple its passenger-side door, so it seems that regardless of my foggy memory the helmet did something to protect me, and I should have replaced it.

Foam doesn’t wear out, but the rest of your helmet can
The EPS foam in helmets hardly degrades at all. It’s the same type of expanded polystyrene used to make foam cups and cooler insulation, and enjoys a lifespan on this planet that can only be measured in geologic time. Basically, helmet foam doesn’t wear out—as long as the foam hasn’t been physically damaged, age doesn’t make a difference. In fact, “The standards do not permit manufacturers to make a helmet that degrades from sweat, and the EPS, EPP or EPU foam is remarkably unaffected by salt water. Your helmet will get a terminal case of grunge before it dies of sweat,” writes Swart.
A crack that appeared as soon as we cut the helmet shell. We don’t know if it was already there, or caused by the cutting, but this is a good illustration of how important the shell is for preserving the structural integrity of the foam. Photo: Eve O’Neill
But just because EPS foam is stable, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to worry about wear. It’s the shell that maintains the structural integrity of the foam underneath. Remove it, and the foam is quick to fall apart. And that shell is vulnerable to UV light, so it can become brittle if exposed to extensive, around-the-clock sunlight. For this reason many manufacturers add UV inhibitors to the plastic, so if the color of your helmet shell has faded, there’s a good chance that it’s seen too much sun. It’s therefore more likely to break, split, or otherwise fail in a heavy impact.
Chin straps can also wear out because of sweat and salt and general grunginess, and that’s a problem. One of the tests the CPSC performs when certifying helmets for sale is something called the retention strength test—that’s the CPSC trying to knock a helmet off a head over and over again. So if you can’t tighten a strap because the slide adjusters have broken, or if the chin strap is precariously attached because a blade has broken off of the buckle, the helmet is practically worthless. Get rid of it.
Likewise, if the retention system is worn out—the dial doesn’t ratchet, the foam inserts have lost their loft, or you find any issues that prevent you from keeping the helmet from moving around on your head—get rid of the helmet. A helmet can work properly only if it fits and stays in place.
So a helmet that’s used only occasionally may well last for many years. If you ride often—with all the sweat and general wear and tear that entails—replacing your helmet every once in a while seems like a good idea, as it may sustain damage along the way that you can’t see (or can’t remember).
Even Larkin, who still rides with his 20-year-old helmet, admits that “not knowing how people treat their helmets … it is not a bad idea to get a new one every once in a while.” So keep an eye on the straps and buckles, and inspect your helmet regularly, but there’s no reason to put a perfectly good helmet in a landfill every couple of years.

Illustration Part Five - Project: Words and pictures
Exercise: Your own work
I started this exercise by reviewing some of my older work I had done throughout the course so far. This included sketches, working drawings and final artwork. I wrote short notes alongside and on images that had elements I enjoyed aesthetically and conceptually, then I gathered them together. I tried to distance myself from original functions and also thought of different ways the illustrations might be used both personally and commission-wise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next I chose a selection of these images in order to form a visual gallery. To do this, I tried to choose illustrations that had a similar theme. When I put all the work together, I noticed two prominent themes, one was bleak, black and white images, usually depicting something violent or depressing whilst the second recurring theme revolved around bright warm colours and femininity so I split these into two groups before deciding on which theme to stick with.
Gallery 1
Tumblr media
Gallery 2
Tumblr media
I felt as though gallery 2 had more variety in illustration style and concepts. I chose  Fashion and accessories as my authorial practice. I felt that my second image in the gallery could look really aesthetically pleasing as a decorative shirt print.
Tumblr media
I started looking at other sites selling graphic shirts such as Asos, Dollskill, Zumiez and Etsy. I collected some images from these sites for reference.
Tumblr media
These types of graphic shirts appeal mostly to males and sometimes females from around 15-30 years of age. Many of these graphic shirts are associated with the skate scene which is well known for it’s artistic background considering style and skateboard decks. My character has an angsty look and rugged appearance which I thought would fit in well with this grunge skater style. After looking at some of the websites for reference, I noticed that most of the shirts ranged from around £15 to £25. I needed to consider this if I was going to produce my artefact. Hypothetically, I also had to consider whether the shirt would be a special edition item or if I would sell many of them. I checked out some local printing businesses and compared prices. I came across three standout businesses:
Iris and Dora:
http://irisanddora.gg/
Iris and Dora did not state prices on their website and offered an email address, however when i read the about, I found out they work with screen printing, but it seemed to revolve more around actual workshops than producing something for a client.
Print My Tees
http://www.printmytees.gg/
“Their description said:  No set up fees, no minimal order & we will reduce the price for bulk orders. To experience why our clients love our first class customer service by returning with repeat orders simply send us your ideas, artwork or logo.”
This seemed more promising in creating an item to sell. I sent them an email in order to find out about prices and printing methods. They came back to me and let me know that a stand alone shirt would cost me £18 and if I wanted to order in bulk, they could offer me a rate of 10 shirts at £12 each, 20 shirts at £10 each and 30 shirts at £8 each.
Ego Motifs
http://www.egomotifs.gg/printing_clothing_guernsey
Their description was very detailed and included a range of different shirt brands and stated that they catered to both one-off jobs and bulk orders. They did not have any prices on their website either, so I sent them the same email I sent to print my tees in order to find out how both businesses compared. They came back to me and let me know that a stand alone shirt would cost me £13, however if I wanted to order in bulk, I would only get a discount after ordering 500 shirts.
From contacting both businesses, I found out that if I wanted to buy in bulk, it would be cheaper for me to go with print my tees, however as I was only producing one shirt for this exercise, it was cheaper for me to go with Ego Motifs so it made sense for me to proceed with this supplier.
I ordered the shirt in a standard Medium Men’s size to suit my target audience. I converted my JPEG to an EPS file and waited to hear back about collection.
Tumblr media
I was happy with the outcome of the shirt and I asked a few friends who are in the skateboarding community what they thought and they said they would consider purchasing it anywhere from around £18 to £25 meaning I could make a profit anywhere between £5- £12 for each shirt depending on what price I sold them at.
