Summary: Based on the following prompt:  Rhodey notices Sam among the new recruits of Avengers that Steve is training. He starts coming to Avengers' trainings to "watch", but he's secretly pining. Sam mistakes Rhodey's stares for critique/dislike and develops an attitude towards Rhodey. Whenever Rhodey and Sam have an opportunity to talk, Rhodey gets awkward and clams up which only reinforces Sam's belief that Rhodey doesn't like him. Rhodey doesn't understand why Sam is so standoffish and is a sad puppy. Eventually they pull their heads out of their asses and get together.

yOu shOULD gO hElP stEVe.  Rhodey mocked Tony in his head. “It will be fun, he said.” He muttered. Today was not fun. He had come to the Avengers facility happy and cheerful; nothing could ruin his day… well, until he walked into the training room and saw the most beautiful man he has ever seen. 

Sam Wilson, codename Falcon, was standing in the room talking to Romanov.  Seeing him first, she waved at him. “Hey Rhodey! Come here; I want you to meet Sam. Sam, this is…”

“Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes, I know.” Sam smiled. “He’s one of my heroes.”

Flustered, and totally not ready for this conversation, Rhodey just nodded and stared. After an awkward moment of silence for Rhodey’s dignity, he mumbled something about needing to find Steve and walked away as quickly as he could.  Once out of earshot, he grumbled to himself. “Come on Rhodes, you’re smoother than this!”

Sam Wilson watched as Rhodes walked off. “Well, that was weird.” He commented. 

“I agree.” Natasha eyed Rhodes’ retreating back. “That was extremely odd.” 

“I guess I just figured he’d be glad to see me here.  Does he want to be the only black guy on the team? Too bad for him because I’m sure as hell not going anywhere.” 

Natasha just grinned that stupid sneaky smirk. “No, I don’t think that’s the case.” 

“Whatever. It doesn’t matter either way. I’m here, and I’ve got more important things to worry about. Ready to start training?” 

“Follow me, Sergeant Wilson.” Nat inclined her head to the training room. 

Sam felt Rhodes’ eyes on him the entire time he trained. Rhodes and Steve were up on the balcony watching the training room below. He didn’t say a single word as Steve yelled orders; he just stared. Sam thought grimly that Rhodes was just waiting for him to mess up. Too bad because I’m gonna run this simulation perfectly. 

“Sam! That was amazing! Great job!” Steve praised him once training was over. Rhodes was still just watching. 

Natasha hip checked him. “Soooo, had to show off today, didn’t you?” 

“I’m just showing him that I am damn good at my job.  He won’t be able to find a reason to kick me off.”

“I… don’t think you’re seeing what I’m seeing, but think what you must. Now go shower, you stink.”

“It’s not funny.” Rhodey grumbled. 

Tony wiped tears off his face as he giggled. “Yes, it is! James Rhodes, the smoothest motherfucker in all of the science club in MIT, the man who met Whitney Houston and kept his cool, theee War Machine, theeeee Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes, just froze up like Hammertech when he met Sam Wilson. I find this ridiculously funny.” 

“You better watch it, or I’m going to tell Clint what happened the night of August 19th, 1994.” 

“Ok, whoa, you don’t have to go that far.” Tony quickly sobered. “So, what are you going to do about it?” 

“I don’t know. Try to talk to him? Maybe it will get better each time?” 

“Good luck.” 

Rhodey didn’t appreciate Tony’s skepticism, but he understood why he  would be . Every single time he saw Wilson, he would clam up and look for an escape route if needed. 

“Hey, Rhodes. Steve asked me to ask you if you have any tips for flying in these formations? He said you created these systems, and I could use a little help.” Wilson approached him yesterday. 

Rhodey had been caught unaware, but he was still able to go through the whole formation with Sam.  Fiercely proud and defensive of his formations, Rhodey admitted that he was a bit touchy about improving. The conversation ended with him feeling more frustrated than before. This really was hopeless. Maybe he should quit and go back to being a lone peacekeeper.

Sam threw down his jacket as he stormed into his room. “That’s it, I’m done. If he doesn’t respect me, why the hell do I have to respect him?” Then he saw Natasha sitting on his windowsill, filing her nails. “Gah! How did you get in here? Why are you in here?”

“Sounds like Rhodes is getting under your skin.” Natasha mused. “I wonder why.”

“Because he’s treating me like I’m not worthy to be here! I feel like I’m more worthy than he is! Tony Stark basically gave him his suit, and everyone just accepted him! I had to work to be a part of the Falcon program.”

“You don’t mean that.” 

“No, I don’t.” Sam wilted. “I still am so amazed with him, like he’s a frickin badass. Like maybe I have a tiny crush on him.” Natasha raised an eyebrow; he amended. “Ok more than a tiny crush, but he acts like I’m beneath him! Like I’m… I just think that if he’s not going to treat me like an equal, I don’t have to hang onto every word he says. I’m going to stand up for myself.”

“Ok.”

“Ok? That’s all you’ve got?”

“That’s all I’ve got.” Natasha grinned evilly. As she walked out, she called over her shoulder. “Now hurry up and shower. We have a loooong night ahead of us. Oh, hi Rhodey. Was gonna get some dinner, want to join?”

Sam didn’t hear Rhodes’ response. He was too busy stripping so he would seem busy if Rhodes  decided to knock on his door. Thankfully the other man must have gone with Natasha, so Sam hopped in the shower. After a long, warm, steamy scrubbing, he dried off and dressed… only to find Natasha sitting on his couch. “You’re a piece of shit.” He told her.

“Come on. Let’s watch some Lord of the Rings.” She patted the couch beside her. 

“I’m serious. Now he probably thinks we’re fucking or something.” 

“I’m a lesbian, Samuel. And Rhodey knows that. “

“Still.”

Nat chose to ignore him as she turned on the TV. As this was his twenty-sixth time watching these movies, Sam could basically see them with his eyes closed.  He kept facing the screen even as he thought about why Rhodes wouldn’t like him. What had he done?

“You gotta help me, man.” Rhodey flopped on Tony’s couch as soon as he walked in the lab. 

“More man problems?”

“He yelled at me today! I was trying to talk to him about certain maneuvers, and he asked me why I didn’t think he knew that already. He was like ‘I was in the Air Force too, you know. What is it about me that makes you think I’m inferior?’ Tony, he thinks I don’t like him! And you know, I couldn’t be like ‘Um, actually, I just don’t know how to talk to you because you’re beautiful.’ Like, do you know how lame that sounds? And don’t you laugh, Tony! Don’t you laugh!”

Tony lifted his hands in the air. “Not laughing. See? What do you want me to do about it?” 

“I don’t know. Can you talk to him for me?”

“Have you ever done that for me?”

“No.”

“A part of me wants me to tell you to grow up and solve your own problems, but also, I have never been around him, so I don’t know what he’s like. I’ll think about it.” Tony leaned on the side of the counter. 

“It’s just so dumb, because I can talk to everyone. I looked a crazy dude with a gun straight in the eyes and talked him out of shooting everyone in the vicinity before shooting himself. I’ve gotten laid before using only my tongue as foreplay. I’ve delivered speeches in front of millions of people. But talking to Sam Wilson? No can do.”

“Men do become fools when they fall in love.” Tony side-eyed him laughingly. “Now, come here. I need your help on this. Do you see this piece of code? It’s not working right…”

“Yeah, I can take a look at that.” The two spent the rest of the night figuring out code for Tony’s new program.

“What did you do to Rhodes?” Natasha swung Sam’s door open. 

“Nothing. What are you talking about?”

“Tony wants you to visit him in the Tower today. Sounds like you’re in hot water.” 

Sam groaned. “Are you serious? Rhodes can’t take a little backtalk , so he needs Iron Man to step in?” Shaking his head, he tacked on. “Man, I’ll go, but geez.” 

A few hours later, Sam landed on the landing deck of Stark Tower. FRIDAY greeted him at the door. Hello, Sergeant Wilson. Boss is in his lab. Take the elevator to the 19th floor.

“Thanks FRIDAY.” Sam was trying to figure out what he’d say when Tony Stark confronted him about Rhodes. 

As he walked out of the elevator, Stark’s door whooshed open. No one came out, so Sam took it as an invitation to enter. He stood there awkwardly until Tony looked up from his project due to FRIDAY’s prompting. “Oh, hey Wilson. Sorry, didn’t hear you come in. Come here, take a look at this. Was wondering if it’s something you’d like to have.”

The thing which Tony was talking about, was a small drone, bearing the colors of the Falcon suit. Sam eyed it critically, wondering if it was a bribe. “If I take it, what do you want from me?”

“Steve didn’t tell you?” Tony looked surprised. “I make most of the Avengers armor and outfits, and I like to tech them up. This drone will fit right on your jetpack. He's  a learning AI so you can train him  how you want.” 

“And that’s all you wanted me to come for?”

“…Yeah, pretty much? Was there something else you needed that I forgot? I do that often.”

Sam felt foolish. “No, I just thought you were going to tell me to be nice to Rhodes or something.”

“Oh, well, you’re allowed to have your own opinion about people. I personally don’t see why anyone would be angry with him, but I’m not going to judge you for disliking my Honeybear.”

“Are you two dating?”

“Oh no. Can you imagine? I’d probably love it, but he needs someone more down to earth than me.” Tony laughed. “He’s the best. I love him so much – platonically, you know – and he’s always there for me. You get what I mean, right?"

At that moment, who should walk through  the door but Lieutenant Colonel James Rhodes?  “Tones.” He said in a strangled voice. “Why is he here?”

“Oh, yeah, he’s the greatest.” Sam turned to Tony dryly. “If you’re still offering the drone, I’ll gladly accept but I don’t want to be here anymore.”

“Wait. I think I see what’s happening here. Both of you, sit down now.” Both men stood still where they were. Tony snapped his fingers. “Sit. Now.” When they complied, he resumed. “First, let this disclaimer be that I am not a licensed therapist, and secondly, you may not use this same method against me at a later time. Now, Sam, why don’t you tell Rhodey how you feel about him?”

Sam muttered. “This is stupid." He took a breath, looked at Rhodes and started "Ok. Rhodes, when I heard you were coming to watch training that first day, I was so excited. You were a big hero of mine, and you piloted an Iron Man suit. You can’t get much cooler than that. Then I meet you, and you basically dismiss me. I brushed it off, thinking you might have been late or something that day. But then time passes, I see that you’re good friends with everyone else at the Compound… except me. And you’re overly critical about every single damn thing I do.”

“Because I’m not halfway in love with anyone else in the Compound!” Rhodes blurted. “Oh shit. See, this is what happens, Tony! Why are you making me talk to him?”

“Wait. You’re… Hold up! There is too much happening all at once. Tony, did you set this up?”

“I plead not guilty. I had no idea Platypus would be coming here. Besides, why would I talk him up when I know he’s in earshot. That’s not something best friends do.”

That earned Tony a bit of a suspicious stare from Sam. “Okayyyy… and Rhodes – Jim – did you just say you are halfway in love with me?”

“Well, I mean. You’re really attractive and like, super badass.” Rhodes stumbled on his words. “And-and you’re so outgoing and friendly, and…”

“Let me step in and save his life and dignity. Rhodey is usually so calm, cool, and collected, no matter the circumstances. The fact that he can barely make a full sentence around you speaks volumes about your effect  on him.” Tony interrupted Rhodes’ rant. 

Rhodes deflated. “Yeah, what he said.”

“Ok, well then, I’ll make the first move. James Rhodes, would you like to get dinner and a movie with me tomorrow night?” Sam invited. 

“I’d like that.” 

“Then it’s a date. Thank you, Stark, for helping us figure this all out. Let me know when that bad boy is finished.” He pointed to the drone.  “I’m gonna name him Redwing.”

yang chaowen is really a sensitive kid... man he brings out renyu's song's feels and then brings up ylq to relate to the lyrics bc he knows his friend isnt getting as much appreciation as himself. (this makes even more sense after ylq said he had been crying before ycw went onstage and ycw was comforting him... and then after ycw came off the stage, it was time for ylq to comfort him from crying TT) Their friendship is really something. But then ycw saying he just gets ripped for getting screentime for crying all the time ouch but i dont get the feeling that hes doing it for attention but maybe im becoming partly biased towards chaowen :) 

Lol the fact that they focus so much on xzx and how hes favored by gjm but feels like it's unfair to be treated uncomfortably by other trainees as a result... all i can say is, what do u expect, of course the other kids will be salty, their lives are on the line and theyre getting nothing close to the attention you are, so unfortunately u cant win everything :(

Lol I see why everyone on twitter is annoyed at gjm... Jackson is literally trying to say something meaningful and mentor-like to su er and gjm literally interrupts with his own opinion.... jackson is like unable to finish his thought. and then when Cheng xiao is actually trying to give ma haowen advice, gjm just goes WELL I DISAGREE, THIS IS RENYU'S FAULT and everyone's like wtffffff???? And then he starts saying people can help Xinhai with his terrible dance (ouch) but renyu didnt help haowen sing and Huang enyu MY CHILD just goes: but dancing and singing are different....... and I'm just smh.... gjm really shouldnt act like he knows everything when hes the only mentor with zero actual relevant experience :( Poor renyu literally looks like hes about to burst into tears, ma haowen looks so sorry and appalled renyu's getting yelled at and none of the other mentors seem to agree with gjm lol 

lets appreciate renyu’s song, its really good!!!

I think xue en seeing hwh as a pro rapper shows him humbling himself, since hes technically a more seasoned and popular idol performer

Cheng xiao fangirling over xue en I mean SAME hahahahahahaha awwwwww yzx being soooo genuinely happy for xue en is the cutest!!! Aw cto friendship and xue en crying :’) actually one thing ive noticed i feel like yzx seems like a genuinely kind and cheerful friend, maybe people are bashing him bc he pushed off some leaderly responsibilities to lin mo in the last round but maybe hes just not someone to take on a strict leader role (looks at aj from afo...) and realized that since lin mo has such experience and is really good at it, it makes sense to respect his experience and skill and let him take on that role. of course its unfortunate that means lin mo worked extra for less recognition, but i think it seems like yzx really respected and admired him so im hopeful what happened wasnt due to mean intentions 

watching chen junhao feeling lost oh man :/ maybe he hadnt fully prepared himself for the idol life when first coming on this show. its unfortunate reality that in this kind of idol survival show, the focus is more on stage presence and face and performance, rather than the music itself. Hopefully he really feels that hes found a path forward through this performance. This is a really real way to present him but I'm sad theres not as much focus on li chenxu when this is hissss song

Man both the self composed songs are really good!! Mann them making this song a dance song is really hard to watch for li chenxu bc its makes it hard for him to shine at his own song which is sad :( also lzx's rap is questionable lol but cjh's vocal part in the middle part is so emotional, I hope he felt like he was able to express himself fully there

ok so maybe im liking more new kids than i expected, but i think thats a good thing that the show is making them likable and some kids are able to stand out! honestly i realized I kinda can see why they eliminated so many to begin with. It's sad but also kinda nice tbh (ouch, i know) bc if they really got rid of the ones who have less skill, it makes it easier for the others who dont have to teach from zero (cough lin mo) And then those with skill get to have at least 3(?) stages, unlike qcyn where jin fan got eliminated after only doing 1 silly stage lol The skill level of the stages is also raised, like there's multiple groups of almost all people who are well qualified. im sure the kids are happy that they get to do more stages, im sure that means a lot to them. 

At least on snzm they attempt to give most trainees a positive light and give screentime to more than just the top 10 trainees. and they allow someee time for vocals, dancers and rappers to get appreciation (even tho dancers are still dominating lol)

but yea honestly I disliked the judging on pdc2019 too tho so at least the judges here can be supportive... at times. it is SUPER biased and gjm is very vocal despite his lack of knowledge tho lol 

it's so bad bc I feel like my standards for shows are so low at this point. my standards get lowered with every show I watch. It's like I guess the snzm songs are okay bc I hated the ones on afo more so at least the stages aren't thattt bad lol At least the rules/general setup aren't as terrible as they were on afo..... at least the camera time isnt as biased as it was on qcyn.... sigh the show isnt doing great, and itd be best if the show would help the tygers get more popular, but I guess its prob better than just doing nothing at star master lol. 

qcyn was just painful to watch from "spirit of the knight" onward bc momo literally was buried, mistreated, disrespected and taken advantage of. at least on snzm he gets some screentime and positive recognition.....

tbh i like snzm, maybe thats an unpopular opinion, but at least there have been some really great stages, where the kids really get to shine. at least i can confidently say that bc of snzm, i have met some new kids who i will be sure to follow for new music moving forward :)

My Comet Experience August 23 evening

I recorded audio which i will trade/gift so feel free to message me and also if you see an asterisk * next to a bullet point that means you can hear what I just described in my audio because I sat right on stage and it's sooo cool (like footsteps, singing, and slamming into the rail above me) 

(Sorry if I repeat myself from the last post I don't remember what I wrote then)

-I sat on stage this time!!! Alex was my pierogi boyyy and I said Hi Alex! And he said Hey!! And placed his hand on his chest and then proceeded to give us the basket to pass around and explain the rulesss. He was so funny I love him

-After the pierogis Nick C was just standing above me facing the orchestra so I went "Hi Nick!" And he had to look for me for a sec and then he asked how I was and talked about how the dumplings needed chutney or some sort of sauce... ok nick... lol It was a bit random so I just kind of smiled and yeahed it all (he's gr8 tho I love him) 

-Before prologue started Lucas was standing near my pit and he pointed to me (I'm assuming because I was wearing a Comet Tshirt) smiled, and wiggled/raised his eyebrows (literally died a lil)

 -Kennedy was on for Helene tonight! Her voice is very different from Amber's but I actually enjoyed her a lot! Her and Lucas definitely did not have the chemistry that he and Amber did though 

-Also Nick B's costume change into Bolkonsky is incredibly quick wow

-I'm really sad I missed Scott by a day because I'm seeing Dave twice now but anyways I made eye contact with him a lot 

-Private and Intimate life Paul hobbles in as the servant, and the first time I saw the show I thought it was hilarious because I was in the mez and couldn't see his face but this time noooo it was so scary. His eyes are literally rolled into the back of his head 

-Bolkonsky screamed NONSENSE instead of songstress? * 

-Mary pulls the young suitor from where I was sitting! He played into it and was great! * 

-During No One Else Natasha was holding onto the rail above me and made eye contact and held it with me for like 5 seconds while she sang!!!

-I think I said this in my last post but Andrey in the snow and the blue lighting is so beautiful and he's so handsome and she's so cute ugh i love it a lot

-Andrew and Brad sat on the steps by me and caressed each other and sang some of the lines in the beginning of The Opera * 

-I love the music when they announce Dolokhov and Helene so muchhh (also you can hear their footsteps as they run past me!) *

-Kennedy and Nick also did not have that chemistry Amber had but it was still great 

-Ok but in The Opera 1 Paul's change into the opera outfit??? How did it he do it in like 2 seconds??? and 2 he was standing right above me and he opened his mouth and made the loudest most high pitched scream I've ever heard I was thoroughly SHOOK * 

-Anatole’s Entrance is godly as usual

-I love the part where Andrey is getting injured at war i just think it's so cool for some reason?

-He's as handsome up close as at a distance... Lucas is a beautiful boy but when he sang "I never remove my smiling eyes from your face" he was right above me and he was starring into Denee's soul and his eyes were so wide and it was pretty scary tbh I was like whoa

-The whole seize me from behind thing happened right above me and I could hear Lucas kiss her neck * 

-THE DUEL

-I was so hyped for the duel it's one of my favorite songs to see live

-"Dear Andrey's betrothed" and Anatole's just like ehhh 

-Drink drink gonna drink tonight gonna drink tonight gonna drink drinkkkk Dolokhov's dance was performed right above me and wth is it 😂 it's bizarre I love it *

-lots of grinding, Reed's sparkly high heels omg

-Lucas and Grace come down into my pit... I've heard what happens and oh it happened. First Lucas's butt was literally in my face blocking my view of what he and Grace were doing (not that I'm complaining) but he was so close and so I touched his vest hehe ( i doubt he felt it really it was pretty thick) he whips her and then they switch places and Lucas is standing on the steps and unzipping his pants and Grace is down on her knees and then whoop the lights come on and he zips back up (you can HEAR the whips in my audio) * 

-When dolokhov got shot he fell into the rail and spit on everyone 👍 * 

-Dust and Ashes the main cast and ensemble stand in the rear mezz and some in the orchestra and sing 

-Ok so Kennedy's Charming was so good! She doesn't have the Angry voice Amber has but her version was amazing and her voice went so high like wow I was not expecting it 

-Intermissionnn 

-LETTERS

-Letters is my jam and then Paul sat on the steps next to me and I mouthed "Paul!" And waved and he smiled and waved back and we lip synced a bit together. He also had some sort of squeaking quacking thing whenever he would move his body it was probably supposed to be to the beat but he was off lol * 

-Also a guy had to get up and hand Natasha the letter and he played the part well too! He did like a courteous bow sort of thing after he gave it to her

-Preperations gets me lit ok and nick literally showers lucas with spit when he holds him against the rails

-Balaga is soooo much fun everyone where I sat got a shaker. Balaga is literally everywhere one minute he's in front of me the next he's in the rear mezz (what a madman). He stuck his tongue out at the people in the swivel chairs once or twice in front of me and he pointed at me and smiled big when he ran by 

-Ok I sat LITERALLY right underneath the Anatole and dolokhov kiss and... their lips did not touch?? Dolokhov was whispering something in his left ear and then he put his mouth super close like he was teasing him with a kiss but didn't and then dolokhov did like playful? hand motions by anatole’s chest and smacked his butt (last time i saw the show im pretty sure they did kiss though)

-Slightly disappointed but just being right beneath them during their dance is like the best thing ever so

-ABDUCTION

-I didn't have a glass so I raised my pierogi box and Brandt clinked his glass with my box and some others where we sat :) 

-Some people at the table beneath Anatole weren't raising their glasses so he yelled at them and forced them to raise them lol

-I love the abduction dance moves so much and idk if I mentioned it in my last post but CHEF BELTONS HIGH KICKS 👌👌👌 

-"May your numbers be numbered and counted..." Dave that's not the lyric but it's ok 😂 *

-Gelsey and Billy came into the pit and she sang in my face *

-Ok my best friend was sitting in the abduction seat and I'm not even gonna go into it because it was *no words* but @carnovalesque described it perfectly so thank you 

-Lucas's hair got so messy in Pierre and Anatole and his petersburg was on point 

-I love Andreys voice so much also he didn't punch/ shove Pierre he just jabbed him a few times in the chest 

-Dave struggled to find his sleeves and that made me happy because when I saw Oak he didn't 

-Only negative I really had was that Dave really didn't show much emotion, maybe he was just off tonight idk 

-But anyways I love the bows so much it's literally one of my favorite parts everyone has their own bow and their individual song music playing 

-The show was incredible and everyone was so good tonight!!! Sitting on stage was amazing but tbh if it's your first time I recommend NOT sitting on stage cause there's so much going on around you it's pretty hard to keep track of what's even happening, but if you just want to have fun then yeah sit on stage! and our audience was so enthusiastic it was amazing! the first time i went it was a matinee so it was pretty tame but tonight there was so much clapping, and cheering, and whistling WOW i had so much fun :)
