Which are actually called Syreni, and are from my original story called Lungs and Gills (aka Pearl Thief, as I originally called it on this blog)

Syreni are merfolk with the tails of different ocean creatures, and depending on what species they are, they have different powers. Shark syreni have super smell, Dolphin syreni have echolocation, Stingray syreni can sting people, etc etc.

Syreni also have access to 4 different types of magic: Sand, Storm, Flesh, and Water.

Sand Magic is magic that can manipulate sand as well as things MADE FROM sand, like pearls and glass

Storm Magic is magic that can manipulate everything to do with a storm: wind, light/heat, and sound

Flesh is exactly how it sounds, it's a magic that can manipulate flesh. Usually it's used in a medical sense, manipulating flesh to heal it, but you can take it in the complete opposite direction too if you'd like

Water of course is the most straightforward, it's the manipulation of water and ice, much like waterbenders in ATLA, but it definitely looks different from that considering it's all UNDER water

Unfortunately for Syreni, they all live in a pretty dystopian world in the ocean after humans polluted it to hell. Pollution has made it impossible to eat without ingesting pollution, which has the effect of making Syreni go insane, almost a slow, zombie transformation. Only thing that can clean food is pearls and the spell done on them, but of course pearls are hella rare, so it's not going great down there.

Also what I like about the name Syreni (which is just latin for mermaid lol), is that it's used for all genders! No need to differentiate between mermaid, merman, and merfolk anymore, they're all just syreni!

Anyway yeah those are my favorite type of mermaids lol, the ones I made up myself. I have syreni characters if you'd like to hear about them specifically, I call em my Sea Kiddos. I would talk about them here but it would make this post MUCH much longer lol.

She gathered a lot of movies, snacks, pillows and blankets to create the atmosphere, and gathered the gang on the sofa.

Amity and Willow werevery impressed by the story and the plot and Hunter.... Hunter It seemed that he identified a lot with Ariel, he even got angry and began to refute the arguments of the fight between Ariel and his father "why she can not have human things? , leave her alone"

"Hunter it's just a movie, try to relax" Willow put her hand on Hunter's shoulder to reassure him and he did, but he quickly looked away.

The best part was the lake scene, And not because of the song, which he always liked, but because of Hunter's reactions.

First he was nervous, he was seen from his position, he was all the time watching Willow from TV and from Willow to TV, *oh Ho! I think someone has a crush* luz though

The song was coming to the end and Hunter stopped watching TV to focus on Willow, it seemed that he was getting closer and closer to her face, until the scene of the eels throwing the boat arrived, which caused Hunter to jump and throw the popcorn.

Luz couldn't hold back and started laughing "what? What's so funny?!" Hunter blushed from the tips of his ears to his face "haha your... Your... You looked great" in light gave birth a fit of laughter that infected the others, everyone except Hunter, who was now embarrassed.

"don't worry, here let me help you" willow giggled meanwhile He picked up the popcorn that was on the sofa "thank willow" hunter said without looking at it, until picking up one of the popcorn their hands touched.

They looked at eachother, she show her a gentle smile meanwhile his face fas as red as a tomato "OK thank you for the help I'm going to make more popcorn bye" And as quickly as he said that disappeared.

The whole film went smoothly, except for a few screams when Ursula tried to kill arel and Eric.

So what do you think?! " asked Luz stopping the movie credits.

"I, for one, I liked the movie, specially the songs" responded Amity giving luz a kiss on her cheek.

I did like the songs too, what do you think hunter? "asked willow

Yeah bro the fight scene was very cool, I feel identified with Ariel, we are also obsessed with human things, surely we would get along pretty well" everyone agreed to that and Hunter whispered a thank to Gus "don't worry I got you" whispered him back.

In the end the movie served, everyone had forgotten a little about their situation and looked more animated, and Luz would ask Hunter tomorrow about his "not very brazen" crush by Willow.

“Hyung do you hear that?” asked the confused maknae. “Yes I hear it.” answered seungcheol, following the path of the mellifluous singing voice from where it was coming. The other team members of the maknae, seemed to also hear the voice because they started following seungcheol.

To say Chan was confused would be an understatement, he was totally lost by the sudden appearance of the voice which seemed to lure his hyungs in. He started following his hyungs. They were headed towards the beach that was behind their vacation house, the honey-like voice leading them towards the shore except the maknae who was fortunately and seemingly the only person who wasn't affected by the voice like his hyungs.

Chan got an idea that it might be a mermaid or a siren singing a melody which can lure people in but then shook the thought off because if it was a mermaid or a siren then why wasn't he in a trance and it also was an absurd idea to him.

Mermaids and Sirens aren't real...right?

He saw his hyungs going towards the sea, some of them already in the sea, water reaching their knees and they seemed to be still in a trance, only looking straight forward at the sea water.

Chan started calling out to his hyungs, asking what are they doing but got no answer from them as they kept heading towards the sea, seeming like they were going to drown themselves there. After seeing them like this, chan started screaming their names and shouted at them to come back to the shore and when it also didn't work, he kept shouting to bring them to their right mind and started to pull their hands to bring them back to the shore.

He suddenly screamed really loudly which fortunately broke the trance the other seventeen members were in. They started looking around confused what were they doing in the beach in their pajamas, standing a line and some of them going in the sea, the sea water almost reaching their chest.

"Why are we here in our pajamas? What the hell happened?"

"Guys let's go inside, hurry up, I'll explain once we're inside."

All the members starting going to the house, Chan was behind them all, making sure everyone of his hyungs were there going towards the house.

All of a sudden, he heard a sweet voice whispering to him. It felt like someone actually went up to his ears and whispered really softly - "Lee Chan~" then giggled. He felt shivers going down his spine after hearing the whispering voice calling him with his full name.

He got creeped out and looked back towards the sea and suddenly saw a beautiful fish looking creature - a mermaid! It was sitting on a rock which he never saw it there in the sea before.

The mermaid looked so ethereal, that he was about to fall in a trance and follow the exquisite looking mermaid, who gave him a sign to follow it as it jumped from the rock it was sitting, into the depth of the sea.

If his team members didn't call out him, he definitely would've gotten in a trance and almost immediately follow the mermaid in the sea. He turned around again to go inside their house, blinking his eyes a few times then went inside, and then turned around again to look at the sea and saw that the rock was also gone. He locked the window entrance to the beach and stood there for a while thinking that if he was hallucinating or something, the sweet voice still lingering in his mind along with the mermaids face making him wonder "what the hell was that-".

I take my words back, People are scarier than sharks, “are you okay?” Y/n laughs as she pats my back , this is utterly embarrassing. I close my eyes and shake my head, “ice cream I'll go get some ice cream, you sit here” she said as she went to bring us some ice cream.

I close my eyes, why is my head hurting this much, the moment I open my eyes, I see tons of hearts glowing a fierce color of blue, everything else was black and white, I close my eyes again and slowly massage my temple “stop, stop” I whisper

Remember you only have 20 days till you turn back to a siren 

I hear a voice whisper in my head, my eyes shoot open and everything's fine, everything's back in color, I only have 20 days, I got to get started today.

Y/n’s POV:

“One chocolate and one peach in a cone please” I said as the guy nodded, ‘what's the time?” I whispered as I took my phone out 

25 missed class from Minho Oppa 

Domed I’m domed, I sigh, was something wrong 

“Here you go one chocolate and one peach” the guy gave me my ice cream, and I thanked him and started to make my way to Han 

To be honest I'm happy Han ’s here, I'm having lots of fun, I smiled thinking about how he was scared as hell in the haunted house, I even didn't have a single episode of the migraine too 

“Here's your ice cream” I said as I handed him the peach one, he glanced at both “I want the chocolate one” he said

“Nope you're gonna try the peach one this time, trust me you're gonna love it” i said, he gave me a questioning look but took it in the end, I sat next to him “so how's your day in the human world going?’ I asked as I looked at the people passing by “well let me summarize that for you, on my first day I was attacked by a cat and a human both on the same day, on the second day I got to know that humans are more scarier than sharks, and that I'm afraid of heights” he said pouting and taking a huge bite of the ice cream.

I laughed with tears coming out of my eyes “first of all Darong thought you were fish and came on you did smell like it too and second San apologized and did give you his clothes that you are wearing at this very moment” I said, laughing “what's so funny?” he asked which made me laugh even more “your.. Haha...your face…” I laughed, he looked confused “is there something on my face” he asked, I shacked my head as a no.

“No your face expressions is soo cute” I said as  my laugh started to come to an end, his face started to go red, to which I stopped, I think he's getting more sick, I placed my hand on his forehead, his fever is getting higher and higher, he held my hand, and for a minute we just stared at each other, he does have beautiful eyes it like you can see the whole sea in them.

“Stupid” he said as he scoffed “come  on I'm hungry lets go home” he said as he got up and started to drag me with him, we just walked silently with the setting sun watching over us.

Han ’s POV:

We got home and I sat on the table directly. I needed a minute to collect my thoughts. I had little time but why do i feel like it's going the opposite way “do you wanna eat now?” Y/n asked standing on the opposite side of the table, I nodded to which she went to the fridge and started to take out some food.

“Here you go” she said after a few minutes, she placed a bowl of rice and some side dishes, I can't lie she's a pretty good cook. She sat in front of me, hands on the table, eyes on me “you're not gonna eat?” I asked, she shocked her head as no “I'm not hungry” I nodded and started to dig into my food, “hey Han I was wondering what's the.. You know what's the difference between a siren and a mermaid in general” she asked.

“Didn't I tell you the first time” I looked up, “well you weren't very specific I mean in detail” she said, “well some sirens are born from the sea, and some are born from violent, watery depths, Drowning, being murdered at sea, their bodies being thrown into the water shortly after their deaths, stuff like that. Thy are the ones that sing to sailors, or anyone and drag them to their deaths, when they get to close, They are born anytime, but that's just a myth in between sirens about that there born from violent deaths no one has seen a siren born like that” i said as i was reminded of the monster i was, the real me 

“On the other hand Mermaids are purely creatures of water, they look more like a fish then us, there dum most of them and aggressive too, even though if both of us die we turn into sea form, as if we never existed, mermaids eat human hearts thinking that that's what's gonna turn them into humans” i said getting back to my food, blocking out all the horrible thoughts.

“Was it hard?” my eyes shot up to her to see her heart was glowing a deep shade of blue 

She's sad 

I nodded, she bit her lip and nodded “if you-... if you wanna talk about it I'm always here” she said as she looked back up at me and smiled 

Beat… why is my heart beating so fast?

Y/n POV:

“You should probably sleep” I said as I picked up Darong “and you and me need some sleep and Darong and Y/n time” I said and winked, to be honest Darong was super mad at me, “I mean your the one who used to ignore me” i pouted as she turned her head the other way”.

I got changed and picked up my phone, shit i forgot to call Minho, this is the best time I guess, I dialed his number

Beep beep~

“Hey Y/n” I heard Minho 

“Hey I'm sorry my phone was on silent” I said 

“It's fine just come to the living room you have so much to explain” he said and hung up

What does he mean by come to the- shit i close my eyes and run out of my room to see Minho giving death glares to Han , and Han  was doing the same, “Minho I-..” I started but he motioned me to stop “who are you?” he asked  looking Han  dead in the eye, Han  gave me a panicked look, I mouthed my friend “your my friend” I whispered, he nodded “I'm her cousin” , I facepalm myself, shit now we're in big trouble how am i gonna explain this one.

“Well I'm her brother” Minho smiled, to which I'm sure Han  understood that he messed up “so now Y/n explain pls”, I motioned Han  to sit down, as he did and then we began to explain the siren stuff.

“So you're trying to say You.. Han  right? Is a siren the ones that sing people to their deaths?” Minho asked and the both of us nodded “and how am I supposed to believe that?” he asked, I give a panicked look to Han , as he gets up and heads to the kitchen he picks up a glass and fills it with water and then heads back to us, he breaths and then puts his hand above the glass, for a moment we all sit there but nothing happens “what's going on, nothings happening, okay enough with the stories both of you tell me the truth” Minho says, but then water suddenly starts to levitate around his hand, me and Minho were in total awe “see I told you” I said as his eyes were stuck on the water now out of the glass and levitating above Han ’s hand, i look up at Han  and smile, he returns that smile with a wink.

“Fine I believe you”

After that everything was settled, you all went to sleep, but to be honest even though Minho now believed in Han  but it still looked like he was not giving him proper approval, but for the time being you were glad he was here.

Han ’s POV:

I'm glad I was half siren, for those powers to work, or damn I messed up, I lay on the couch my eyes on the roof, “you know if you do anything fishy to my sister I swear I'm gonna kill you and bury you so deep that even your own kind wont find you” her brother said as he lay his mattress on the floor, and went to sleep, back towards me, I sigh I mean I get it he’s her brother, it's good he's protective, who wont be she is something to protect, my thoughts start to kill me , I get up and head outside, slowly opening the door, but as I was opening the door I heard a small meow.

I glanced down to see the little monster rubbing against my feet “you want to go outside too?” I asked, more like I whispered, Darong gave a little meow, as I picked her up and we head outside, the cold night air, the cold lonely sea, to be honest I forgot the sea or being a siren when I spent time with her, I sit down on the sand and place darong in my lap, looking at the sea reminded me of my task, my heart sank to my feet “ugh I can't do it, am I falling for her?” I put my hands on my face, thinking of all the times she made my heart beat, “is this what love feels like, cuz I dont like it” I said as I stared at the sea, I took my necklace out of my shirt and inspected it, the vile was now half empty, “great I have little time left and I have zero progress, but what I'm feeling towards her is it love or something else?” I questioned myself, Darong meowed “and you, you little monster” I said as I picked her up and brought her to my eye level, she meowed and then licked my nose, I smiled “your not that bad” I said as I placed her back in my lap.

“We should probably go in , it's getting a little chilly out here” I said as me and Darong headed back in. but what do you know sleep wasn't quite welcoming me today I sat on the sofa, “what's something fun I could do here?” I whispered, I saw the thing that turns on the TV the… “what did Y/n say this was?.... Ahh right a remote and this button turns it on” I remembered it was actually the most complicated thing I got to learn, I turned it on and the volume was quite high, I gritted my teeth together and glanced at Minho Hyung, but he looked like he was having a deep sleep, I quickly turned down the volume, “sorry” I whispered, I started to surf through the channels until this one caught my eye.

“Are you a person who’s in love but can't seem to figure out whether it's love or friendship? Well today we will tell you some things that will help you figure out the difference, and point out how exactly you feel about that person”

Wow great these things always pop up on the worst time, I really didn't want to know this, but then again it won't hurt I guess, I looked down at Darong and she really looked interested in the show, wouldn't take her eyes of the screen “who do you have in your life to figure out your feelings” I laughed, but Darong straight  off ignored me.

“When someone likes you they usually give off small hints, but how to differentiate is that when you love someone 

1.You act like yourself in front of them

2.You can never get mad at them

3.Your always thinking about them 

4.You can talk to them endlessly without getting bored

5.You feel there pain, happy when there happy and sad when there sad

These are the main points, but you can also give “kiss” a try *wink*”

 “I think that's enough TV for me” I said as i turned it off, my face was heating up, this is stupid I won't do that, I sighed and lay down on the couch

Y/n’s POV:

“Good morning!” I said as I went directly to the kitchen, hands occupied with tying up my hair, but as I looked up, I saw Minho with an apron, he looked at me and smiled, “sit down, and chill I've made us waffles your favorite” he said as he motioned me to sit on the seat, the aroma of sweat waffles filled the air around me and to be honest it reminded me of my childhood. “Where's Han ?” I asked, “here!” I heard Han  behind me, I turned around to look at Han , he was damped and not to mention semi naked, he wore only jeans, I'm kind of embarrassed to say I couldn't take my eyes off of his abs ‘how the heck do sirens have perfect abs, and why didn't I see this earlier?’, I heard hurried footsteps behind me, and then I felt someone covering my eyes, “HEY PUT ON SOME CLOTHES THIS ISN'T A STRIP HOUSE” Minho yelled as I laughed.

Finally we all settled down and had a peaceful breakfast, after finishing up we all cleaned up and thanked Minho for the lovely food, “oh yeah I'm gonna go do some work k, I'll be back by 9 okay” Minho said as he got to the door he stopped and looked back at Han  and gave him a long glare and then went outside, I laughed “wow that was intense” i said, as i was about to go to my room, Han pulled me by my arm and pinned me to the wall, we just stayed like that for a minute, my heart started to beat at an abnormal speed, “I-” I wanted to speak, to say something but my mind was blurry, my thoughts were blurry, I blinked twice, but Han  didn't say anything “can-can we go outside today” he said, and I blinked again trying to process what he meant. 

“Yeah yeah sure, umm give me five minutes” I said and the motioned for him to let me go, he quickly realized and pushed himself back, “yeah sorry” he said, hand on the back of his neck, I quickly went into my room and closed the door, “what was that, get a hold of your senses Lee Y/n!!”

Minho POV:

“Detective Minho your really on good terms huh buddy, I mean posted to Jeju, beautiful place and less crime, good for you buddy” I smiled as I heard Chan Hyung blabber on about how hard it is being a city detective, “oh come on Hyung it's not that hard, and plus I still have to deal with small crime, pickpocketing, car accidents and all”, I sighed looking at the now placed file on my desk, “don't be so unthankful those petty crimes are a piece of cake for us… by the way how is Y/n holding up, is here headache fine?” he asked as I hummed.

I stopped, as i thought about the fact that Y/n hasn't had a migraine since I got here “she's more carefree and happier these days” I said, thinking about all the times she's laughed, and how much happy she looks teaching Han  how to use the TV, smiling at the memory of that thought, “wow great that’s good I-.... In a minute… hey buddy I got to go okay got a new cold case” he said sighing frustrated, “okay” I laughed, “but hey tell Jeongin to not destroy my office and tell Changbin to stop arm wrestling with every newcomer” I said as Chan laughed “you know about that” 

“I have eyes and ears everywhere” I laughed and then we said our goodbyes.

In the middle of work I thought about the possibility of other mythical creatures existing if a Siren exists, I opened up the file, but when I read it I wanted to yeet everything.

Han ’s POV:

We got home from our little stroll and let me say I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO MAKE HER HEART RACE, she went straight to her room, and came back minutes later, with a camera, I suppose that's what you call it, “here I want you to have it” she said, as I took the camera and stared at it for a minute “what for?” I asked, “well I want you to make some memories for yourself, since your here now” she said, I smiled looking at the camera, “thanks” I said as she looked at me with wide eyes “I-I’m gonna go make us something to eat” she said as she hurried to the kitchen. 

I nodded as I went to my sofa and sat down, Darong meowed from the other room and as she saw me sitting she came running and I smiled, “hey little buddy” I smiled as I picked her up and run my hands through her hair she started  to slowly close her eyes and doze off, the smell of food was nice, less days I have less days left I thought as I looked at the ceiling.

“Ouch” I heard Y/n yelp in pain and then hiss, I don't know why but my body quickly reacted and I got up and ran to her, “what's wrong are you okay?” I asked as he help her finger in her hands, “yeah I'm fine I just cut my finger” she said as I took her finger in my hand and examined it, it wasn't a deep cut thank God but it was deep enough to bleed like hell “why didn't you pay more attention hun? What if this was deep what would we do?, does it hurt a lot?” I asked as I slowly picked her up and placed her on the kitchen counter, “where's the first aid?” I asked as she looked at me and then at the cupboard, “I- its t-there” she said and I quickly went to get it, I slowly started to clean up the wound, “you should be more careful, scared the hell out of me” I said as I took a bandage and wrapped it safely around the wound, her hand was now in mines and we both stared at each other, i really dont wanna kill her, I slowly start to close the gap , and placed my lips on her, I felt her stop and then she kissed me back.

Bookclub; February Highlight

February is the month of love and as we all know, love doesn’t happen over night. Whether it is angst, sexual tension or pining we all love to be on the edge of our seat hoping and begging that they would finally get together. So, naturally this month theme was “Slow Burn” and these are our our monthly fanfic recommendations from our bangtanxm; bookclub!

BOOKCLUB; recommendations

TIDES WILL BRING ME BACK TO YOU by @sujigguk​ [aka @ftyoonmin​]

— Summary; Fate is a funny thing. Humble fisherman, Yoongi, learns this when one evening, it's not a fish that sits at the end of his hook, but a bottle, containing a note claiming that a creature of the sea by the name of Jeongguk has been left stranded on land and is soon to draw his last breath.

“This story immediately pulls you in with the amazing story-telling. Lou has a way of writing so beautifully detailed that it makes you imagine the amazing scenes in your head vividly. On top of that, it is a really heart wrenching love story, mixed with a wonderful fantasy theme of siren Jungkook and his fishermen Yoongi.” [@softjeon​]

“Wow. So, Tides Will Bring Me Back to You has been on my to read list for quite a while. I regret my choices in not reading it until now. This fic was an absolute work of art. The singular amazing thing I want to point out is the attention to detail. So, we as readers expect fics to be good, especially AUs. Like we want some world building and detail so that we can visualize the setting and location and what is going on with the characters that are being put into this new world. This fic was able to do that but MORE. The attention to the setting detail was unbelievable. There was so much in terms of vivid descriptors and explanations that painted this super vivid and pretty image in my mind. I’m scared of the ocean to be honest, so I have never gone out on a ship beyond like, a lake. And have only ever seen the ocean from the safe confines of the beach. But because of the detail in this fic, I was able to visualize it so perfectly and vividly, it felt like I was really there.I really enjoyed Jungkook as well. Obviously he’s a gorgeous young man in real life, right? Which is why I liked this fic because it wasn’t this stunning perfect man from the waist up, you know? He had the scaly back, the webbed fingers, the sharp and kinda creepy teeth, etc. I think that this made it more “realistic”, as realistic as a mermaid fic can get of course, but like… I don’t know, it felt more real and added a layer of uniqueness to the fic that a lot of supernatural AUs tend to lack in fanfic terms. Also, the ending. Some might struggle with this because it was so ambiguous (no spoilers of course) but I really liked it. Though I’m sure the author had like a set “this is how it is” ending or explainer, I like that it’s this sort of grey area for readers to think on and figure out.” [anon]

“Omg, I really loved this fic. It's a bit longer than I normally read because work sort of keeps me away from reading more than writing haha but I really loved how Yoongi had this NEED to help a stranger he had no idea existed or not. Then to watch their love blossom that way and Yoongi protect Jungkook. It's also cute that Jungkook calls Yoongi 'My Yoongi' and Yoongi first thought it was a mispronunciation of his name. I do love mercreatures too, so that also drew me to this one. I loved the details and the tidbits of background we get from Yoongi and his love for the sea/sea creatures. Sorry, this is just all over the place.” [anon]

BABY BLUE by @chimknj​

— Summary; Jimin is blue. He’s loyal to his customers and confident in everything he does. Namjoon is white. He’s pristine and maintains a perfect balance in life. When the two come together, they create baby blue, a color of freshness and something new. It’s new for both of them, but not all new things are bad.

“What an amazing story! Even though Minjoon is basically already "together", although Namjoon is just paying Jimin to be there, it is just heartbreaking to read about how Jimin tries to get to know the other more, trying to get him out of his shell and falling in love while he is doing it. All while Namjoon tries to stick to his rules making it so much harder for Jimin, himself and the reader....cause damn!!! I could have screamed the characters sometimes and it literally hurt my hurt so much each time Namjoon pushed Jimin away ;; I can't.... I wanna cry just thinking about it again.” [@softjeon​]

“...beautifully written plot, where you just want to punch Namjoon in the face until he finally reveals his true feelings.” [anon]

“I didn’t mean to consume over 70,000 words in one sitting. I honestly didn’t. Over a few days, over a week. Space it. But I knew I was lost at the end of chapter one, the same way Namjoon knew he was lost the second Jimin’s cute hands started unbuttoning his shirt after date night.Honestly. This fic had everything. I laughed a lot, I cried way more than I’d like to admit to, I had the urge to take a cold shower more than once, I wanted to take Joon by his perfectly ironed lapels and shake the ever-loving crap out of him. Honestly though, it felt like a full-length novel. I mean it was, by length, but also by content. The world that was created was beautifully devised and detailed, and everything from the various business names to the design of the apartments was so easy to visualize due to the richness of the descriptors. Personally, I appreciate that. It adds to the ‘movie playing in my head’ way that I like to read.The smut was unbelievably well written. It was sexy without feeling too unrealistically “porn film fantasy” if that makes sense. Like the progression felt natural and easy rather than being rushed or faked like some fics tend to do. It was clear the author did the required research in terms of D/s and wrote what felt very accurately.I loved the involvement of the other members, I think they all played really great, vital roles as side characters. And honestly, they were so rich in their own right that I would love spin offs about their own arrangements with their respective partners!The ending was absolutely sweet and perfect too. I spent the whole fic praying it’d end in a way that was satisfactory to my wrenching heart and I feel like it gave me every single thing I wanted and more.” [anon]

EVERYGREEN by @softjeon​ & @cassiavioletblue​

— Summary; Yoongi felt that something was wrong the moment he had stepped foot into the garden. He hated that this sense of foreboding could mean anything and he had seen enough to have a very vivid imagination of what could wait in the bushes for him. His grip was tight and ruthless but when he felt he weight of something heavier he startled. In front of him on the grass, bloody and shaking was a deer hybrid; a boy, obviously younger than himself and apparently in a lot of pain.

“Whuff. There's hybrid fics. And then there's THIS hybrid fic. I know that hybrid fics are one of those things you either love em or hate em, I honestly couldn't find a thing to dislike about this fic even if I tried. Firstly Yoongi as the grumpy on the outside (but squishy on the inside) raccoon is perfection. Imagining his markings and those growls and grumbles -- it's so endearing. And then there's JK who, a deer? Oh come on, I'm soft. Imagining him with the broken little antler and those soft, cute markings V_V It's tooth rotting, I swear. But for all the fluff and sweetness, there's this layer of angst and hesitation that makes this feel like such a deep, melancholy slowburn. The will they - won't they, the pull of each and push back, the "I can't" and "I want" -- GUH. Really, it's just so sweet and perfect.” [@kimlinebiased​]

“I read Evergreen as it came out. It seemed like such a cute take on a trope that’s pretty common in our fandom, but one I’m less comfortable with, so I was really eager to see these authors’ take on it, since I knew I love their work already. The story opened up with action that sucked you in almost immediately, but it really balanced that with some slower, almost peaceful moments. I think that’s a really big draw of this story, really these authors overall, but this one in particular. They have a handle on the ebb and flow of the story. What I mean is, things happen and it’s exciting and oh god cliffhanger, but then things slow down and give the reader a second to breathe (but not too long, because then it would get boring). The balance between breathing space and action can be really hard to balance and I think these two do it really well.  For this particular story, I think my favorite character is actually Namjoon. Sure, he doesn’t have a huge part, but I think he’s super well written and quite in character to the canonical person. (All of them are in their own way, but he sticks out to me). He’s so supportive but not afraid to tell Yoongi the truth even if it’ll sting. Further, he isn’t perfect. He lets his heart get in the way of his head sometimes (like with Jimin) and it makes him really endearing and realistic in a refreshing way. I think that he’s one of those absolutely indispensable characters in this particular world. Like sometimes, it’s easy to switch members, have x play y’s part, y play b’s part, etcetera. But I think that Namjoon’s part was written so perfectly, it fits him like a glove and made it really enjoyable when he was on the page. The plot has some things that the reader can “call” so to speak – like you might read and know there’s gonna be trouble for JK, he’s gonna get tangled up in the mess in some way, but even thinking you know, it’s still done in a way that it doesn’t take away from the enjoyment and “oh no” factor when the big climax does finally get rolling. Just like you know pretty sure, it’ll end happy, I still found myself worried about ‘well what if it doesn’t’. And I think that’s a testament to the authors, really. They are able to take these fanfic tropes and make them feel fresh and new, so even if you feel like you might know what will happen, the way that they weave the story together makes those emotions still hit in a really palpable way.I’d also like to discuss the overall setting of the story. There’s only a few locations that the readers really get a feel for, but particularly the cabin. I think that the descriptions of the cabin and forest and general development of the backstory and setting was really well done. Things like hybrid or other non-human AU’s can be really tricky to keep interesting but still give the right amount of backstory and description so that they aren’t confusing. We as readers need to know the rules, but not have a history textbook, and I think this fic really accomplished that as well.Overall, I just really enjoyed the feeling and emotions that this fic caused. I think that it was able to really convey some important messages while still being woven into a sweet, unique love story. [anon]

“It's been a while since I read this, but I would happily read it in one sitting all over again. I'm a sucker for royal settings and I absolutely ADORED the dynamics of this one. It's just the right amount of angsty and fluffy, and keeps you hooked throughout.” [@sujigguk​]

I really loved this fic out of various of reasons, the relationship between the characters are amazingly written, the setting and overall plot is so well thought out and it just has the perfect mixture between angst, fluff and comedy… i mean, just the first chapter had me laughing so much.” @softjeon​

— Summary; “Funny how even in this ridiculously absurd situation, life had made Taehyung a third-wheel. Or a sixth.If Bangtan Dry Cleaning was his fairy godmother, Jimin his little mouse, the jacket his magic dress and the club scene his ball, where the fuck was his prince charming?A knock on the door pulled him out of his thoughts.”

“So, this fic is really is so cute. I started in on it just casually, but found myself entirely sucked in and couldn't put it down until I'd read all that was written on it. Taehyung specifically is such an interesting character - his thought processes and sass are just perfect. I adore Jimin as well. And then there's Jungkook, who is so -INSUFFERABLY ARROGANT- but not in a way that makes you dislike him. He's still so endearing and you WANT these guys to just get off their high horses and kiss or something, but you also kinda want Tae to pour water into his lap because he's such a rich boy. I love it so much. I can't wait for the next part.” [@kimlinebiased​]

“A story that could very well fit a movie! It’s everything you need on a sunday night! You laugh, you want to throw something at their rich faces and scream at the boys to just kiss already. A perfect Slow Burn!” [@softjeon​]

“The way that Gucci look on you (amazing) is such an adorable and absurd (in the best way) slow burn. It’s a wip now, and I honestly cannot wait until the author updates. The case of mistaken identity is such a good trope that honestly, I feel, isn’t done enough. Especially not in such a cute and fun way. Of all the ways for Tae to get outed as not who he said he was – this one was epic. Of course, it’s a slowburn, so you expect the endgame ship to you know, not be huge fans of one another, but the tension here is so palpable, it is awesome. Taehyung cannot stand that cocky little JK and JK’s arrogance is both hilarious and infuriating. But there’s very clearly something deeper to him, and I really like that the author is able to make that clear through hints and clues, rather than just outright saying it. It adds a depth to JK’s character that often gets missed in fics, especially because we know these guys so well, so to speak. Having those sort of subtle nuances really adds to the overall enjoyability of the fic. I think Jimin is such a great supporting character too. He’s the perfect mix of Jiminy Cricket and devil in your ear, so to speak, and his personality comes off as so honest to who he is canonically. It makes him so fun to read. (And the YoonMinSeok trio is helpful as well, what can I say, soft spot for poly even in side pairings). All in all, it’s just an absolutely stunning fic so far and I can’t wait for the author to continue it.” [anon]

“I'm almost halfway into this story but I really have to rec it cause wow...if you like mafia and urban fantasy themes then this is THAT fic for you listen succbus jimin, mafia leader yoongi, a damn deeply laced mystery that I can't EVEN FREAKING FIGURE OUT I usually can connect a few dots in mystery stories sometimes bUT THIS STORY IS KILLING ME there is someone yoongi is looking for that's destroying his gang and he like DOESN'T FREAKING EXIST and I know once I reach the end I'll be like IT WAS RIGHT FREAKING THERE IN MY FACE lmao but seriously the authors' worldbuilding skills is freaking legendary and I'm always hoe for mixing different themes together and the mix of urban fantasy and mafia just ugh freaking beautiful. The Slow Burn is real in his fic, yoonmins' dynamics are annoying and frustrating as heck but can be really sweet sometimes because they're both very broken individuals and they're trying to find comfort in one another. The themes are obviously very dark so carefully read the tags and also author notes in the beginning so you know what to expect but seriously it's so damn worth it and I will be personally putting a long feedback directly on their Ao3 as well when I'm done because i know I'm going to have lots more to say. a song of the sea (additional notes)

a mess of notes/comments/ideas/expansion on my day 3 fic for giyushinoweek, a song of the sea. :)

- the original idea was to base shinobu off of a stonefish, due to those being one of the most venomous fish in the world, and also their use of spines and stings to administer that venom. They’re not the prettiest fish--maybe a lionfish or something would be more appropriate (lionfish being my second choice) but the lethal spines of the stonefish appealed to me more as shinobu’s weapon, due to her sword/fighting style in canon. i also didn’t do that much research, so if i were to expand the fic i’d probably look into it at least a little more haha.

-giyu is what others in the fic call “sea-touched”; the abilities of those called at such kind of vary, but essentially they all have superior water-related abilities of some kind. giyu has especially good navigation skills and is very good at predicting currents and whatnot. he lives alone by the sea and makes his living as a fisherman and being hired onto bigger ships for his abilities. 

-sabito and makomo are alive, but live far away for some reason. urokodaki taught giyu, but is also no longer around (physically, he’s not dead) for some reason too. hadn’t thought this part out that much, even though i’m like, convinced they’re alive here haha. another vein might be that sabito and makomo are also merpeople, hence why giyu lives alone. 

-in the same vein of canon, kanao doesn’t speak very much due to trauma, and so she doesn’t use her natural abilities that much. 

-the natural abilities of the mermaids/sirens refer to their voice; despite physical combat (which shinobu and kanao are very skilled at) in relation to what kind of mermaid they are, their voices are extremely powerful and can distort the sea and the weather. their voices can lure, and also kill, if the intent is there. this would need more exploration of mechanics and probably something to temper the OP-ness of it. i was also playing with the idea of consequences of using the voice for deeds like what shinobu did--severe interference and destruction. didn’t really have time to fully delve into that possibility.

-oyakata-sama lives in a large house/mansion extremely close to the sea, like he has a private dock kind of thing. he helps when shinobu/mermaids in general come onto land, his family has been sea-touched and particular friends of the sea for generations, and they’ve always assisted in these supernatural affairs. he and his family are also why shinobu is able to integrate fairly easily, to an extent, into human society. he and his family teach her a bunch of things. they’re like....what’s the word....bridgekeepers between the two worlds?? that’s not the word, but you get it.

-kanae is dead in this au, killed by humans. i guess there’s a lowkey parallel of humans in this fic vs the demons in canon. buuuut since shinobu offers giyu her protection, i was thinking the reason why the sister don’t hate humans entirely is because kanae had been friends or in love with a human, but was found out by other humans who had more malicious intentions for her. another vein, in a much more expanded setting, would be that shinobu does hate humans and does hate giyu at first and is far more grudging about offering her protection, but he did save kanao, and so it’s much more of a slow burn.

-if i were to be completely self indulgent, i think it’d be neat if like, shinobu/the sisters were mermaid princesses haha. this also might be why there aren’t really consequences to her using her abilities??

-regardless, the sisters would be the last of their clan/school/type, and they are of the more powerful, if not most powerful, mermaids/sea creatures. 

-if you’ve read xxxholic by CLAMP, ideally the protection that shinobu offers would play out like the smaller, episodic stories there, where people come to get their wish granted but it ends up being granted in like...not a way they expect. this would be why shinobu says that giyu may come to regret protection from one such as her; being a mermaid, and a particularly powerful one, she doesn’t have the same values (those i suppose she’d be aware of them, via interaction with oyakata-sama) and perhaps, a certain lack of control over the way protection is granted. like, “magic does not follow the same constraints” kind of thing. although i did really one at least one really dramatic scene where people come to bully/attack/kill giyu because of the wealth he’s accumulating, and shinobu appears and like. rips them apart and it’s really dramatic and kind of gory lmao. the deep sea isn’t a kind place, and shinobu is.....protective. 

-also ideally is that this fic would kind of play out like a grimm fairy tale style wise? i kind of didn’t want to run with the threads of like...giyu and shinobu falling in love and one becoming entirely human or mer, or “the little mermaid” esque story where shinobu has to give up her voice to be on land, or the one where she’s captured and kept in a tank and interacted with that way before she’s freed somehow, etc. (all of these are good, i just didn’t want to write them LOL) i guess i wanted more of a coexistence kind of thing? i want there to be a cool exciting dramatic plot, but like, i don’t actually have one. i guess this would end up being like, my usual giyushino bonding exploration except mermaid AU LMAOOOOO

-shinobu appears and goes into town with giyu sometimes. she’s not exactly fascinated by human culture, but she finds it interesting enough. maybe she also begins to sell remedies and stuff, in accordance with her canon doctor position. sea secrets. people probably assume that this mysterious girl has also become giyu’s mysterious wife. (they’re kind of baffled and sort of like, talk around it, so giyu is oblivious to the assumption until much much later. shinobu catches on faster than he does.)

-i think mermaid aus are another thing, like soulmate aus, that i love reading but like, don’t actually want to write myself LMFAO

-wow a lot of this is shinobu focused. again. i just love her ;__;

-that’s all i got for now if for some reason you want to hear more of this.......send me an ask i guess LMAO for something i came up with really quickly to work with the prompt there were a lot of things i considered and wanted as backstory........but i really doubt that i’m going to write this au out in full.......it’s too long in my head for the way i want it to build up and i just..........don’t have the willpower for that................

Toils For A Prince Part 1 ~What Shouldn't Have Been~

"Y/N! You know we shouldn't be here!" A very young Yui worriedly shook her webbed hands in front of said friend's face, trying very hard to sway Y/N into moving away from the human ships.

"Hehe, don't worry. It's not like anyone's here." The girl brushed her off, swimming closer to the docks. Her iridescent blue tail gliding through the water as she reached her hands out, pushing them against the current and closer to her goal.

"Ohhh...." Yui bit her lip and stayed her spotty pink and white tail before breathing out an exasperated breath and chasing after her. "You always drag me into these things... Y/N... Can't we just leave? Our pod is gonna start looking for us..."

"You can, but then you'd have to explain where I went." Y/N giggled, talking with her hands. The blue-finned mermaid then turned on her back, facing the sky and splaying her hands and tail out. "Ahh.. We never get to be this close to the humans, don't you think it would be fun to learn somethin'?"

"What would we learn? How to flay a fish?!" Yui shivered. She was still a few yards away from the docks, keeping her distance from anything human related. "You know what my father taught us... They're dangerous." She bit her lip again.

"What if they've changed?"

Yui stayed quiet, but as her friend opened her eyes and moved to an upright posistion, she could see the disproving look in her eyes.

Y/N shrugged, diving back under the water and moving right under the docks. She could hear humans shouting in the distance, and though they spoke the same language, she couldn't understand what it was they were saying.

Y/N relaxed under the shade of the wood panels. The spaces between the planks cast strange shadows on her small, peaceful face. She let out a sigh of contentment and let herself sink to the sand. Yui quietly swam to her, leaning over her face, covering it completely with shadows.

"Y/N..." She whispered. In response her friend just cracked open one brilliant E/C eye. "Come! On!" She struggled to tug the taller girl away, which only caused her to start giggling uncontrollably.

"Yui!" She squirmed as her smaller friend started to tickle her.

"I'll stop if you come back home!" Yui was giggling as well and she soon completely forgot where they were. It became an all out battle to make the other cry out for mercy. Y/N struggled to get away from Yui. Her tail wriggled wildly as she raced around the dock post, dodging Yui, always staying just out of reach. "Get back here!"

"Hehe, you can't make me!" Y/N raced away from the shoreline, her small body dodging under ships, racing over rocks, and slipping through coral. Yui was hot on her tail the whole time, reaching out to grab her.

Almost got her... Yui thought as she stretched her fingers just a bit more, when suddenly her friend did a complete 180°, leaving her in the dust.

"Haha! Tricked you!" Y/N shot back to the docks, her tail and fins working to propel herself forward. She could hear Yui panting, slowly catching up to her. "First to touch the top of the dock wins!" She shouted behind her, pushing her hands out to thrust herself even further infront of Yui.

"Aannnddd... I win!" The girl shouted, rising above the water and throwing herself on top of the panels she earlier layed under. "Haha!" She laughed, catching her breath before sliding into the water and away from the docks. Wiggling her small tail under the water and pushing her hands to the air in a small victory dance. As she opened her eyes she noticed Yui had stopped completely, her pink eyes were staring widely at something behind Y/N. She watched as Yui slowly sunk into the water, leaving only the top of her head and scared eyes above the water. "Y-Yui? What's wrong?" The small mermaid was terrified to turn around. It was well known that Yui constantly worried, she'd never acted like... This before.

Yui didn't respond, she was now staring daggers at whatever lay behind her friend. Y/N, with her heart hammering in her chest, gathered her courage and quickly turned around, refusing to talk herself out of it.

What she saw completely shocked her.

Y/N had seen pictures of all six princes of this particular kingdom. She knew their names and knew what they looked like. This was the closest human kingdom to where her and Yui's pod lived. Yui's father made them learn about these particular humans, he said it would help them avoid the boys.

Clearly it didn't work. Staring wide-eyed and shocked was the oldest of the young princes, Sakamaki Shuu. His hair was a blonde mess atop his head, his great blue eyes flickering between Y/N, who was extremely close to where he was standing, and Yui, who was still glaring. She must've recognized him immidiantly. She'd payed much closer attention to her father's lessons than Y/N did.

"U-um... Hi?" Y/N said akwardly.

The Prince said nothing, in fact his eyes widened even further and he took a step back. His green and gold uniform was splattered with water. Y/N realized she must've splashed him when she jumped on the docks. "S-sorry about getting you wet..." Y/N was trying really hard not to freak him out too much. If he ran back to his kingdom, to his mother more importantly, their entire pod could be in danger.

"You-you can talk." Shuu sputtered.

"...yeah?" Y/N didn't see why he would think she couldn't talk, it was very easy to, she considered to herself.

Yui was slowly approching the pair, the majority of her was still under the water but she let her head rise above the protection if the ocean.

Shuu tensed as she stopped next to Y/N and stared up at him. She didn't exactly give him a warm entrance.

"My father said that Sirens could only sing..." The boy mumbled.

Y/N snorted "Sirens are silly... And they eat humans." She mused, but quickly backtracked as Prince Shuu took another step back. "Ah! Wait- we're not Sirens!"

"Sirens would've already eaten you." Yui whispered, seeing that this human didn't pose a real threat to them.

"Wha- Yui that doesn't help our case!" And for a change it was Y/N scolding Yui.

"We shouldn't even be here! Much less talking to one of them!" Yui shouted, grabbing Y/N's hand and tugging it away from Shuu.

"Shuu Sakamaki! What are you doing out here? You need to be inside studying!" A woman's voice called out, full of authority.

Y/N and Yui immidiantly froze and ducked their heads down, but not completely into the water.

"Hide!" He mummered, eyes slanting slightly, before turning to face his mother. Y/N desperately grabbed Yui's hand, who was frozen with fear, and scrambled under the shade of the dock. "Mother. I was just taking a break. May I have a few more minutes to myself?"

Y/N drowned out their voices, focusing on calming Yui down. She dragged her down to the sand before shaking her shoulders, her short hair formed a halo in the water. "Yui!"

"Stop! Shaking! Me!" This time it was Yui who grabbed Y/N's hand. "We need to go! That's Beatrix!"

"Wah-" Y/N barely had time to collect her thoughts before Yui was dragging them back to their pod.

Only when the shore was barely a line on the horizon did they stop. Y/N couldn't get that last look he cast her out of her head. He looked so disappointed that his mother came. Even when he seemed scared of them his blue eyes had never pierced her in such a way. It was so... Lifeless, the way his eyes darkened.

Shuu breathed out a sigh of relief as His mother turned to leave. She had begrudgingly granted him a little more time before he had to return to his duties.

The eldest Prince moved to the very edge of the docks before dropping to his belly and twisting his head to look under the dock. The water was one of the clearest in the world, his father made sure to keep it that way, so when he didn't see any hint of a beautiful blue tail he visibly deflated. They must've left as he spoke to his mother. He let out a small sigh at the realization. Shuu Sakamaki slowly rose to his feet and trecked back to the castle, and as he did many thoughts clouded his mind about the strange not-Sirens. What else could they be? Of all the tutors he'd been forced to learn under, they'd never mentioned any other types of half people-half fish.

But that was a thought for another day. For Shuu was young. And as of now, full of child-like energy.

He’d been wandering almost aimlessly now, straying away from densely populated villages for fear that he would be hunted the moment his curse was known. While his crucibles helmet shielded his eyes from view, it was a rather flimsy means of staying hidden and rather distressing on his body given the weight of his knights armor now chipped and worn from the elements.

The scent of the salty breeze let him know that at the very least he was close to the ocean and perhaps in interest of seeing the tides push and pull with the forces of nature, the banished knight trudges on in the direction with which he had seen gulls fly towards. Somewhere in the back of his mind he thought to himself how much more efficient his travels were if he only gave in and took a steed for himself to ride upon. 

by the time he makes it to the gulf he is met with a curious sight. It appeared to him that there was a scuffle going on upon the ship steered close to shore and rocking gently in the shallow waters. As he steps ever so closer he can make out a wriggling figure caught within a net that men were struggling to pull over the edge of the deck. It is only when a grand tail smacks the face of an assailant and a glimpse of curls through the fishnet that he realizes it is a mermaid was caught and a feisty one at that.

Drake wasn’t well versed in Fishfolk societies nor their culture given how inland his kingdom was but he had heard grand stories that drew countless fishermen to the sea to capture these mystical creatures.

Even if their reputation varied into bloodthirst and maneating, he wasn’t going to just stand around and watch as one was captured to have god knows what done to it.

 Sliding his heavy sword out of it’s sheathe, Drake approached the ship as quietly as his heft armor could manage. Slit eyes narrowed as he took in the scene and hoping to distract the men from potentially harpooning the writhing mermaid he called out.

“ I see you’ve caught something quite rare, mind telling a wandering old knight what you plan on doing with such a creature?”

Ikkaku had been careless. She could admit that. she had spent several months on land, exploring cities and forests and mountains, hearing stories and learning so much it had nearly been overwhelming. Humans were quite fascinating, especially when they thought she was one of them.

They never even realized how close they were to a dangerous ocean predator

But eventually she felt the ocean call to her, so she’d indulged in turning back into her true form. Being a mermaid again had felt almost alien to her at first, powerful grey tail feeling heavy, but soon her body once more was swimming gracefully through the water, and it felt good to be in her natural element again. Perhaps she had missed the ocean more than she’d thought. Perhaps it was time to swim to another island so she could make the most of this familiar joy while preparing for a new and exciting adventure.

Alas, in her eagerness, she’d forgotten that there were some human sailors who dared treat her kind as prey.

“Release me this instant!” she snarled, bearing her sharp teeth at the sailors that laughed and jeered at her. The net was thick, tangling her arms and tail in coarse ropes as she struggled to reach one of the men so she could use him as a hostage, or at least take a bite out of him.

“Not a chance, fish bitch!” the captain chuckled, stepping just out of her reach. “Yer too valuable to just catch an’ release. Yer gonna make us rich!”

Just as she opened her mouth to release her siren song that would drive these disgusting men mad, another figure approached. A knight, by the look of things. But was he the kind who rescued young maidens or the sort who killed what they perceived as monsters? Her mouth shut as she stared at him curiously. His sword His next actions would determine whether or not she’d put him under her spell with the sailors.

“Haha, well met, Sir. Knight! This one’s a rare beauty indeed! Pity we’ll have t’ sully that a bit,” he cackled, the rest of the crew eagerly joining in, sadistic smiles on their faces. “They say mermaids cry pearls more valuable than rubies, but the cold-hearted bitches can’t be coaxed with just a sad tale or two, so we’re gonna have to get more hands-on.” Eyeing the knight’s sword, he raised an eyebrow. “Hope yer not thinkin’ this be some noble maiden in need’ve saving. Don’t let the pretty smile or heaving bosom fool ye - she’s a monster who’d eat yer heart fer dinner.”

Ikkaku’s dark eyes narrowed at the sailor. She wouldn’t deny her kind did find hearts to be particularly delicious, but his was surely too black and shriveled to taste any good, especially if he was the type to torture her for her tears.

Turning to the knight, she gave him her most frightened expression, making her lower lip tremble and carefully hiding her shark-like teeth. “Please, sir,” she whimpered, gazing at him from behind inky curls. “I’m no monster. I just want to go home.”
