Star Trek: Discovery sure did end today last week. It was okay. I think, largely, the type of show Discovery is doesn’t lend itself to a satisfying conclusion. The plot of Discovery is that every season there’s a Big Quest they gotta do all season long. But the Big Quests don’t really relate to each other that much. So like… what’s there to end? They simply stop doing missions.

There’s also the Star Trek: Picard issue, where seasons and previous events don’t feel very connected to each other. They had an episode about time jumping forward and backwards in time and like… the fact that a large portion of the Discovery crew is time displaced just doesn’t really come up? And it doesn’t ever really come up ever! There are times where it feels like it should and it doesn’t.

Not to mention the antagonists this season are just kinda uninteresting. Moll and L’ak served only to stand in the way of the Discovery crew but… didn’t have much else to offer. They were mean in the way Star Trek writers write Mirror Universe characters, in that Being Mean And Rude And Bad is their basic and defining trait, something that is seemingly hardwired into their existence as people, which is boring. (This is why that Section 31 show/movie will not work out, btw) Also two goobers with a ship were somehow extremely close to beating the Discovery crew to getting to this season’s Big Quest item? A whole ship of Federation officers were on the back foot to two randoms all season long? Weird choice.

There’s something there. Anytime they try to tie the show to the larger Star Trek universe and its other shows is interesting to me, in that it makes the universe feel like a real setting that has impact. That happens occasionally in this season and this episode. I am invested in some of the characters, like Saru, so seeing him be so pivotal in this episode is nice.

It’s a better ending than Picard at least!

If possible, straighten your arms by arching your back as much as possible; tilt your head back and look up.Checkpoint: Are your shoulders away from your ears?
