what’s snow mountain syndrome?
okay, thinking i maybe gave a bit of the wrong impression with my initial statement- snow mountain syndrome is a short story from the light novel the rampage of haruhi suzumiya, the fifth haruhi suzumiya light novel (the other stories, if you're curious, are endless eight and day of sagittarius)
it is by far the longest story in that book (a full 80 pages in the copy i have, i think?); and a sort-of sequel to remote island syndrome (which is incredibly different in the light novels compared to the anime, a change that fascinates me even knowing what sparked it)
it's actually also one of my favorites, despite a lot of what i'm about to talk about
(obvious warning for spoilers for snow mountain syndrome and possibly other haruhi stories in here)
so, before we get into this: it's not, like, canon erotica or whatever. this is not sword art online (i won't tell you to look it up, just believe me that it exists and was written by the og author- who later claimed it was made as a joke).
that said, please heed the content warning of this post, because it does still contain sexual themes. the series in general kinda does (realistic teenager behavior), but this is probably the peak of it. let's go over things from my memory, which means a few minor details might get mixed up, but this should be mostly accurate and i'll try and remember to revisit it after reading the story again anyway:
so, the gang are all trapped in a mysterious house where time doesn't work. this happens pretty early on, after they get stranded in a blizzard. they learn time doesn't work because haruhi and kyon break off to investigate, have a conversation that shouldn't take more than like half an hour (and haruhi expresses some degree of discomfort with kyon paying more attention to yuki, as this story takes place very shortly after disappearance. they then form the Yuki Protection Squad after kyon lies about what's going on in a way that gets Some of the idea across), but when they get back to the others it's been three hours
(this is adorable. protect yuki at all costs)
so they get settled in the suspicious mystery mansion, as you do, while time continues to Not Work. they all pick out bedrooms next to each other. now, the Scene That Most People Remember from snow mountain takes place after everyone goes to bed:
kyon trying to think of some solution for their current situation is interrupted by mikuru coming into his room wearing different clothes than she had ten minutes ago (also less of them) and invading his personal space. she asks to sleep with him and starts taking her clothes off.
however, she's missing a specific mark (the same one that was mentioned in melancholy), cluing kyon in to the fact that she is either not real or simply Not Mikuru (on top of the way she's acting)
she's sad about it and runs out of the room, when kyon realizes the door has been locked the whole time. he runs after not-mikuru, opens the door, and finds haruhi (whose room is directly across from his) also sticking her head out of the door. and also everyone else.
the context is understandable but i find it endlessly hilarious that this is one of the only times haruhi is genuinely shaken by something
this bit establishes something important- everyone had one of those weird horny nightmare scenarios. i put haruhi first because, as i said, i think her response is very funny since she's rarely this out of it
from koizumi and mikuru, we get these:
which leaves yuki:
yuki passes out immediately after this. honestly, mood.
"why are you still talking about this story after getting the point?", you may be asking
it's because snow mountain syndrome, on top of the Not-Mikuru Scene and its followup, is just kind of batshit insane
so yuki passes out, haruhi immediately goes into Protect Sick Yuki mode and sends kyon to go get some supplies to help out. he runs into koizumi on his way back, they talk about math, and kyon is about to beat the absolute shit out of koizumi when haruhi interrupts and tells them to knock it off
(this isn't from the book, but it captures the sentiment nicely.)
i, personally, am of the opinion that they should be allowed to fight. i think it would be funny. we get haruhi and kyon wrestling on the floor twice, i think we deserve kyon and koizumi getting into a fistfight.
anyway they return to talking about math and, via yuki being the MVP even when completely out of commission, they use math to solve the equation that lets them out of the suspicious mystery mansion.
they get out alright (though not before koizumi joins the Yuki Protection Squad and affirms his loyalty to the SOS Brigade), and haruhi fusses over yuki as they return to the group. there's some good tsuruya content in this bit too
and then koizumi passes the whole thing off as a group hallucination. kyon isn't totally convinced that haruhi bought it, but she at least tentatively claims to.
and that's snow mountain syndrome, one of the weirdest stories in the haruhi catalogue!
sorry for how long this response took, but i hope you can understand why
#ruby.txt#haruhi suzumiya#snow mountain syndrome#analysis#<- i know it's not btw i just wanna organize all of these types of conversations

Ok, It's Not Red. So What?
"Oh, It's Not Red" continuation
Welcome to the third part of my posts regarding Mochijun-sensei's official VnC artworks. This is just a continuation of the 2nd part (there will be no artworks to be discussed). I will just share some absurd ideas that I came up with after my realization (some may already be out there). If there's any chance that you stumbled to the prior post and decided to continue. I salute you brave warriors that assume I would mention anything that makes any sense. To those who have no time to read a post that only talked about Murr's eye color. Here's a summary: I realized Murr's right eye is not red.
Curious as to how did I come to this conclusion? Check it out here: Oh, It's Not Red (You may not read the first part as it isn't related to this. But if you want to, it's here: Regarding some of VnC Artwork this title is so uncreative)
As usual, a friendly reminder that best in writing is an award I never received. I'm not the person who could analyze, explain, or theorize things clearly. Please bear that in mind while reading. Photos are not mine, of course. Also, spoiler alert to be safe
Now that it's all said and done. Let's go ahead and talk about Murr.
By this time, we already know who is Murr. And I think we all agree that the cat is not just a cute mascot of the series. I bet that he would be a game-changer (yes, I'm putting Murr on a high pedestal). The question is: What do you think of Murr's role in the story?
After spending hours and hours of reading here and there, the common theories I found are:
1. Murr is Sensei (The Shapeless One)
Sensei is an observer. And where is the best place to observe? It's beside your subject of interest. Also, as his title suggests, he is shapeless, so maybe he could shapeshift into anything he wants. This sounds probable but, I do not lean on this much for two reasons.
Personal preference. If this is true, Sensei is weird, not terrifying. I mean, instead of doing scary and shady affairs during his free time, he decided to be a cat just to watch Noé.
Look at the image below closely.
Did you found Murr? No? Take a closer look at Louis. At first, I thought he was just reading, but his book has a weird shape. Where did I see that again? Oh, right.
Not yet satisfied? See this panel from the manga. This is after the first image's scene.
(Grandpa obviously has his favorites)
I think the cat Louis' holding is Murr. Thus, there's a panel where Sensei and Murr are together. That's the second reason I'm skeptical about this theory, folks.
Well, we also don't know. Maybe grandpa killed the cat so he could disguise himself as one.
2. Murr is a spy camera of Grandpa De Sade
It's a simple one. The theory goes like this: Murr's right eye connects to Sensei in whatever way. This panel is what inspires this theory:
(This cat really is suspicious, I bet he is one of the puppet masters of this arc along with Sensei)
This theory is what I'm more inclined to believe. I suppose the cat is working under/with Grandpa for their grand schemes. So, of course, he would report to Sensei the events that took place. Whether he is using his right eye or whatever means it is.
Going to my personal thoughts...
I guess that Murr was a kin of the vampire of the blue moon. He used the power too much, and thus he was rewritten from the inside. Alas, Murr became a cat! Why is he heterochromatic, tho?
Ok, kidding aside, there are two ideas I want to share.
1. Possibly Twins
Mochijun-sensei dropped the bomb in chapter 46. She gave us the idea that the theme of twins would be relevant in the story. Here is the page where Veronica mentioned the thing about twins:
Then three chapters later when Misha forced Noé to drink his blood and reveal his memory. Mochijun-Sensei dropped another bomb.
After seeing this, we speculated that Faustina and Luna are twins. I love that thought. Just imagine how complex the relationship it would be between the two. But if we think about it. What if this is just a misdirection? First, Mochijun-sensei makes us aware that the subject of twins is somewhat important. And while that information is still fresh in our memory, she dropped another bomb and told us that the blue vampire and the queen looked alike. Mochijun-sensei set this up so that we could connect the two easily.
All we know is that: Vampire twins are a symbol of bad luck, and Luna looks like Faustina. This is just me overthinking things, but what's life without competition. So, let's add three more names to the list that could be a set of twins.
Murr and Luna: Because why not? His left eye is blue. Also, Luna's left eye was never shown in the series. It's always hidden by her hair, maybe it's a different color.
Noé and Luna: Let's just say he is older than the series claimed him to be. Noé's memory started on the day that it snowed. I believe that Mochijun-sensei is keeping the timeline vague since it would reveal too much information. I mean, we don't know how long time passed from the day Noé was found by the old couple to the day Sensei brought him to the castle in the forest. Keep in mind that the vampire's growth differs for each person, as well.
Also, is the story the Noé and Sensei told trustworthy?
(How kind are this kidnappers that the kid was not traumatized? Also what's with the injuries. I don't much about slave trading in VnC world. But, if you're going to sell something you don't want it to have visible damage right. Sorry if the comparison sounds offending)
As far as I could tell, Sensei is shady, like really. Noé's memory is also not reliable. After all, someone out there may have the ability to manipulate memories. What if Noé was was born ages ago and was induced to sleep for a long time for whatever reasons?
Going back to Noé and Luna. Mochijun-sensei is giving us subtle hints of his association with Luna. I only saw Luna from one chapter, but I could say they are somewhat similar aside from the hair and skin(?) color (I will make a list later if I still have of time on hand).
(Child Noé and Luna both have similar haistyle, they have the "lid" as Mochijun-sensei called it. Their eyes are different tho')
Go on, read chapter 49, you'll see what I mean. Also, take note that at some panels (especially the ones where Noé is feeling extreme emotions), Noé's left eye was hidden by his hair or something. Who else out there that we don't see her left eye? Yup, the vampire of the blue moon (I have a weird feeling about Noe's left eye that I will share later) To conclude this, I think that Noé was not from this era. He is actually from the past and preserved in whatever way from whatever reason. And maybe he is actually the twin brother of Luna, seeing that they have a resemblance.
For now, I won't say that he's a reincarnation of Luna (I may change my mind later) as the timeline doesn't coincide. Besides, human Vani's reaction when Misha told him that there's a way to revive Luna is intense. Meaning he wants Luna to stay dead. I also believe that human Vani is hiding "something" he knows about Noé. So if Noé's a reincarnated Luna, there's no way human Vani would stay with him.
Murr and Noé
If you saw my previous post. I convinced myself that Murr's right eye's color is violet (the same shade as Noé's). That's why I decided to include them here. I have no definitive reasoning aside from their eye color and how Murr treated Noé in the series.
In the meantime, I'll write the scenario in my head. What if Murr and Noé are twins. Something happened when they were young, and so they were separated. Noé was somewhere we don't know yet, while Murr encountered Vampire Vanitas and Grandpa DeSade. Then the rest is history.
I swear I didn't expect it to be this long, at any rate, this would be to be continued here: Ok, It's Not Red. So What? (continuation)
Note: This is just a random theory, thoughts, assumptions, and/or head-canons. I wrote this to indulge my over-thinking self. Thank you for taking the time to read and understanding if I made any mistakes or post whatever it is you don’t agree on.

WIP Tag Game!
thank you @justmattycakes for tagging me! Because I usually post when I have a sizable buffer and I do a lot of one shots, I literally only have like one released WIP right now. but I will show some unreleased things in the drafts 👀
*all unreleased titles are working titles; they may change!
relax my mind - WINX: Fate Saga Aisha/Musa fic. They're girlfriends your honor!! Next chapter is a cuddle sesh and I no longer know if it counts as canon-compliant or not.
Coming soon:
white on your heart (don't freeze cold) - Marvel Luna Snow(Seolhee)/Haewon. Rarepair central babey. This is currently the one I'm most excited about. I started this, like, one-two days ago and it's already reaching 5k... Hae Won is barely even a character, but she's kidnapped and Seol has to save her <3 Agents of Atlas cameos will be made. There's no audience for this fic, just my whims, so here's two snippets. Haewon gasped, hips bucking. "Seol, Seol." Her head landed on Seol's shoulder, a whine muffled by the fabric. "Your hands—.. They burn."
Breaking In - unreleased silkcat. This is just whump and reconciliation.. yeah I love them, what about it? Close to being done. "Who let me out of the bag?"
Ice rinks and roller skates - MCU Gwen/Cindy. I'd say, about halfway finished? I call this Effortlessly 2.0(affectionate) in my brain lmaooo. It's one thing to accept a kind family's invitation to drive you home, it's another to find the daughter that invited you ridiculously attractive.
SILK week: no spoilers!! But just know that I have mentally checked off every single challenge and have started writing😏 Still juggling my WIPs around to see which ones will be posted during this week but I have more or less of a plot for each prompt except one
Development Hell:
I'll be your beggar, your fool - unreleased Liz/Cindy. I just got to say, ever since I wrote Effortlessly... I am a SUCKER for this ship, I will go down with it. Still figuring things out, have written a few scenes. A look of relief broke out on Cindy's face. "Oh! Elizabeth Toomes, is that you?"
To Learn Every Note - Winx Club Aisha/Musa. I never should've had each chapter be like 6k... the chapter I'm working on is like 2k and it just. Won't. Grow.
What is Good, What is Bad - atla mailee. Superhero au!! 2 chapters out, 3rd I have started and gave up 💀 will pick back up eventually (I hope)
Save Me - unreleased atla Suki/Mai. Suki's taken prisoner; Mai oversees her trip to the Boiling Rock. This has been in the drafts for almost a year omg but it's over 10k words
Floral Killer - unreleased mailee mailee mailee (atla). Mai's heading back to Caldera with Ty Lee and Aunt Mura in tow for the Festival of the Fire Lily. During then she deals with flowers, assassins, legalizing same sex marriage, and maybe... fall in love? Wrote the beginning, still figuring things out tho
Flowers for... Azula?! - unreleased Mai/Azula au. Azula delivers Zuko's flowers to some girl. Yeah, some girl alright; if you can even call Mai "some girl."
that's all I'm gonna share! Only a drop in the WIP ocean. Everyone better read my Luna Snow fic when I publish 😤 I'm really liking it so far, rated M .... maybe E😳 (probably M because I am a COWARD)

Spoilerish in text below for SUF episodes 11 and 12!
So. Firstly, I just wanna say I drew this in anticipation of Steven getting the hugs and love and help he needs, before the new episodes dropped this past weekend. Secondly, I logged on Tumblr Saturday night to add filters in order to avoid spoilers, only to get things mildly spoiled by people who don't tag their posts very well... I should've added filters sooner, but I forgot. I wanted to wait to watch all the episodes together at the end of the month, but I went ahead and watched 11 and 12 since I already saw something spoilerish and NEEDED TO KNOWWWWWW. Anyway, I figured I'd post this and disappear again completely in order to totally avoid spoilers.
BUT NOT BEFORE I THROW UP MY LOVE FOR THIS SHOW. I usually don't get really verbal in fandoms, but I kinda wanna gush about all the emotions. During the first 10 episodes of Future, we all did our fair share of speculation on what Steven is going through and what he should do, so I'm not really going to weigh in on it all now. I'll just say that he has several issues all floating around the theme of being left behind, and it's obvious each episode is going to explore a different aspect of the that overall problem. I'm glad the show is exploring the different facets (gem pun?) of what's bothering Steven, instead of it being a two-dimensional "he has one problem and we're slowly revealing it and here's how to fix it in one easy step". One of the biggest parts I noticed other fans hone in on was him "being needed", which was finally verbalized in 11(In Dreams) with Peridot. I'M SO GLAD SHE GAVE THAT BOY A HUG AND REASSURED HIM OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP. Uuuuuugggh! It was very much like 7(Snow Day) and even 9(Little Graduation); they danced around the issue a little and finally Steven had to talk about his feelings and the issue was addressed. I'm also glad that Bismuth took notice in Steven's problems with Connie in 12(Bismuth Casual) and was able to simply talk to him about what was bothering him.
I'm really excited to see what is to come of the next 8 episodes, even if I am a little sad to see the show end. This show has meant so much to me and will continue to for the rest of my life. I really wanted to draw Pyrite hugging Steven because he NEEDS REAL HUGS. I feel like these characters have constantly been there for me over the years, and in a way I just wish I could be there for them... I'll probably finish this later on? Or do a new drawing after SUF is finished? And talk more about how much I love this show???
Sorry for the long rambling post "XD

(Gary anon) Well, hopefully they will be satiated enough. I know some of his fans didn't want him back because his story felt complete and don't want it soiled. The sooner Paul comes, the faster this will all be. (And if what I see going around on Twitter about another Ash rival, one that he hasn't defeated, returning for a possible fight, I'm going to be more disappointed if Gary doesn't battle Ash later. {Since these 3 are arguably his biggest ones.}) But yeah, them avoiding using the PWC
.
(Part 2) as a measuring tool is the best route. Won't stop the debates, but won't add too much fuel. (It's bias, but I still think that if they have to go all out on an old rival again, have it be Gary. He was here before we had all these battle mechanics and gimmicks. Let him indulge for once, like Brock and Misty did. Let him nerd out) Sadly, we probably won't see something like that until Project Mew is over; again post-Leon. (I expect it to be a Gary and Goh train for now. They gotta)
(Part 3) (handshake first) There's a few 'endgames' for Gary, hopefully they pick one that fits. (I think him having a Togepi always had me wary; I feel something was going to happen with this guy. Especially with him being based on Cynthia; final boss vibes and all that. Seems quite a bit of people got caught off-guard) Looks like the web series starts May 18th. It's called "Hisuian Snow". (Welp, I may have been right about leeks: As I mentioned above, we might know all the members)
(Part 4) (next week and possible spoilers on all 8 is circulating on Twitter currently. And it's apparently from the person who's been consistent since Iris' episode)Whatever it is, it's certainly a curious one [and didn't fail to give a few fans of bad memories of a certain Ash fic trend we shall not name]. But I have seen a few speculate if we will get something similar to it, but not as extreme nor done with his friends or Pokemon. (Folks challenging Ash's ability to hold his Alola Champion)
(Part 5) (title, so to speak. But not in a battling sense.)
Hopefully. Even though I don't like him, I mainly didn't really expect or want him to return for similar reasons--DP concluded things with him strongly enough that it really just. Doesn't feel necessary. I guess we'll see what the writers intend to do with him.
Oh, another one? Man.
Yeah, definitely. People will be debating on who Ash's best rival was forever (and I'll forever say Gary when anyone asks for my opinion) but it's better for canon to not fuel that fire.
I have the same bias and I also agree from an objective standpoint. Gary was the OG, it's what he deserves. I want to see him mega evolve his Blastoise.
Yeah, true.
Yeah, Gary and Goh time for now, which I don't mind because their interactions so far have been great and after JN102, I'm very interested to see how their dynamic progresses the next time Gary turns up.
Yeah, hopefully! He deserves a good conclusion.
Oh, I was on the exact opposite line of thought. I saw his main Pokemon was a Togepi and was like "aww that's precious, I trust him." Guessing instantly from looking at him that he was probably a Cynthia ancestor should've made me wary that he was going to give the player a beatdown later on, but it did not. (And I thought that if it did, it'd be as friends.) I guess all this makes him a legitimately good twist villain--the subtle foreshadowing is there so it's possible to pick up on something being up (and for people that don't, it's possible to look back and see said foreshadowing and be like "holy shit, he taught us the backstab technique"), but it's not so obvious that the reveal is expected and anticlimactic.
Ooh, neat! That's only a couple days before my birthday!
Oh boy. I don't know if I want to look or if I want to wait for that to be officially revealed but oh boy.
Yeah, it's sure... an interesting title. That's definitely a possible direction it'll go. I am a little nervous but also very curious to see how it'll play out.
