Honestly I probably will finish them at some point (I'm very invested in the second one cos I actually planned it out, the first one would need so, so much reworking) but the general gist is under the cut:
So the first one, I called it Major Character Death, centers around this one person who, for some reason, always chooses to be reincarnated after dying. (The afterlife system is kinda like a 'choose ur own ending' thing) as the story follows this character through their multiple lives, it becomes increasingly obvious that the more they reincarnate, the more they remember about their past lives. This reaches a peak when their most recent reincarnation, Allison, experiences frequent painful visions of her past lives (which were loosely based off my own experiences with tic attacks).
In the side-plot, it's revealed that the main character is actually the kid of the entities Life and Death (very OP I know, I started this book when I was like 15 dont @ me) which caused a lot of stress and conflict within them as a child. In order to protect them, their parents sent them to earth as a mortal and erased their memory (Much to Death's dismay, as he would only get to see his kid one time, after they died).
This dissonance is the reason behind Allison (and her predecessor, Emerson)'s painful visions.
That's where I left off cos I didn't know how to go from there, but if I ever rewrote it, I'd probably end it in a sort of bittersweet way, with Allison choosing not to reincarnate and live in the afterlife. I'd also probably play up Life and Death's roles more, to make it more obvious that the reason this person always reincarnates is because Life and Death are subtly influencing them so they don't have to stop seeing their kid.
The gay part comes from the character that I've broadly named Partner. Basically, Partner is another person that reincarnates alongside the main character, taking the role of lover/friend/confidant. Every reincarnation is gay and has some sort of gay romance plotline (except penny but that's cos shes 12) but I tried to keep the focus more on the found family aspect. (Like one reincarnation's daughter is the next reincarnation's adoptive mother, I just like playing with dynamics like that).
The second one
:tw for murder and death mention, as well as other dark themes:
(I don't remember the title but I think it was like,, Crime and Coldbrew or smthn like that) is a dark gay romance thriller abt a journalist tasked with covering a series of murders that have been happening in his city.
(Pretty sure I saw a prompt abt this somewhere??)
The journalist, Jaden, decides to go above his pay grade and try to find insider information about the murders, leading him to a shady meeting with a local crimelord who, unbeknownst to Jaden, is the murderer himself.
The crimelord, Charlie, took a (slightly unhealthy) liking to Jaden after reading the preliminary piece he did covering the murders. Romance ensues as both parties learn more about the other, and Jaden gets pulled further into this handsome criminal's web.
Some things to note! Jaden is absolutely consenting to everything that happens in this novella. Mans is very much into this in an honestly concerning way, but it is a dark romance so
Also, theres a lesbian sideplot!! Jaden's closeted influencer best friend, Amanda, falls for Charlie's main henchwoman, J, after a series of hookups. J, who was initially sent to gather info on Jaden, ends up falling for Amanda too. However, when she tries to warn her and Jaden about Charlie, Charlie tries to have her killed.
He doesn't succeed, but she does die later in the story, and it's hinted that Amanda also gets got in the final lines of the book.
Obviously I don't condone sleeping with a murderer, but, it was a rly fun concept to write and plan out and it's the one that I will most likely actually finish cos it'd be the easiest to do
Someone bonk me on the head I'm once again getting the urge to rewrite my scrapped novella
