Monday:

Bewitched

Once upon a time...

There where two brothers. Twins of royal blood. One, outgoing: a rather reckless but powerful optimist, a hand to hand combatant and sword wielding fighter.

The other, quiet and reserved : a realist who would rather spend all day reading books than socializing, a powerful spellcaster and a rather good strategist.

Perhaps if they both worked together, the kingdom would reach an even higher state of greatness and development.

Nevertheless, both princes grew up together and supported each other- even with their contrasting personalities.

The first prince: held in high regard by many and looked up to due to his friendly but fierce nature. The second Prince: not so much. Due to his lack of appearance in many social events: he was basically a myth to many citizens. Almost nonexistent. Not that he minded. The second prince preferred not to draw attention to himself. It allowed him to see areas and attitudes the kingdom showed that no royalty could ever hope to see. It gave him a better understanding of people and he loved it.

One day, the second prince had snuck out of the castle: years if experience guiding him. Today he decided to visit the outer ring of the castle: where all the farmers lived. As he made it there, he saw the farmers arguing: apparently over a few black flowers that had bloomed in one of their farms. As they were arguing over who would uproot them, the undercover prince took it upon himself to volunteer to do it.

Ignoring how the farmers looked at him like he was out of his mind, he made his way over to the mentioned farm and instantly saw the flowers.

They where beautiful. The flowers appeared to be roses. Roses the prince had only seen drawings of in books. Black roses. A starking contrast with the yellow stacks of wheat and golden buttercups dotted here and there. In a way, it reminded him of himself and his brother. Shaking off the thought, he wondered why anyone would want to uproot such rare and beautiful black roses.

Sighing to himself, he supposed the farmers may have been the superstitious type and believed they were moon blossoms: mythical flowers said to be cursed. 'Not like those actually exist'

He started plucking the flowers- one at a time. It didn't take long, only a few minutes in fact before he had a handful of the gorgeous flowers. The farmers thanked the prince greatly before asking for the uprooted flowers to burn. Hesitantly, the prince gave up the flowers he had: secretly keeping one for himself. 'It would be such a waste if flowers as beautiful as these were just burned.'

After returning back to the castle and acting like he never actually went out, the prince placed the flower in a small cup of water on his bedside table. He watched the sun set over the horizon as his eye lights started to get foggy and his eyes drooped.

His eyelights flickered to the flower one last time before he fell into a deep sleep.

"Hey Brother! What could have brought an introvert such as you here: to the training Hall of all places?" The first prince's voice popped up, startling the second prince back to reality.

'Where am I- what-' the second prince seemed to panic causing the first prince to bring him to a hug. After calming down the first prince gently repeated his question from before in hopes of distracting his twin from whatever cause his earlier distress.

The younger twin leaned into his brothers embrace for comfort as he stuttered out quietly "I-I cant remember-". This cause confusion in the first prince before he had to calm down his twin yet again from another panic attack. "How about we go inside and we can talk about this with mom and dad?" The usually confident twin asked with a sweet but gentle tone. Nodding ever so slightly, the first prince picked up his brother like a child (causing the second prince to pout in embarrassment) and made his way over back into the main area of the castle.

The memory loss incidents had become more and more frequent, so much so that the young prince had gotten used to it. His parents sent for the kingdoms best doctors and medical practitioners when they heard of what happened. They all had related these memory loss incidents with his weak state during childhood. Not being able to do anything about it, the workers in the palace was informed of the second princes condition and told to tell him where he was and what time it was if he ever seemed confused. The second prince found this very helpful and made sure to thank any and every worker who had helped him.

Word had come about that there was a new Demon King with a newly built demon castle nearby. The king and queen worried about this but decided to pay it no mind and avoid it. As long as the demons stayed away from them, they would stay away from the demons.

The Demon king smirked. It was finally time to put his plan into action. There he stood, infront of the first prince's bed, a malicious smirk on his face. Silently he casted a sleep spell, ensuring the prince wouldn't wake up through this.

Carrying the first prince like a child (and earning a small sleep grumble from the prince himself) he entered a glowing cyan portal.

EXTRA:

"Um... I dont mean to be rude Cross but do you even know where the Demon Kings castle is?"

Blue dead panned. He had started to realize that the so called hero wasn't all he was portrayed to be.

"Isn't it outside the kingdom?"

Cross asked cheerfully as he continues to make his way through the market.

"Well yes- but its actually to the north. Where going south right no-"

"Excuse me, but do any of you have a numchuck by any chance?"

Blue was cut off by the voice of a young girl. 'A numchuck? Why would any of us have a-'

"Actually I do. What do you need it for miss?"

Blue almost chocked on air. "WHY THE HELL DO YOU HAVE A NUMCHUCK"

Cross sighed over dramatically.

"Oh Blue. Silly young naive Blue. It's common courtesy for anyone- especially demon hunters or knights to have numchucks."

'NO IT ISN'T-' Blue yelled inside his mind, mental tears being shed.

"Actually, I need those to beat the idiot who ate all my- well, the details are insignificant. May I have them or not?"

'That sounds oddly suspicious. Theres no way he'd give them to a citizen' Blue reassured himself.

"Eh- sure why not" Cross shrugs

'He gave them to her anyway- ' Blue mentally facepalmed.

"Oh thankyou. I'm Core by the way. Where might you be going if you dont mind me asking?" Core asked curiously, putting the numbchucks in her inventory.

"The Demon Castle- though I dont know where it is"

"-Like I said. It's in the opposite direct-"

Blue was cut off once again, his patience starting to run out

"Oh, I know exactly where that is. I even know a short cut actually." Core popped up drawing both of our attention. "You see that door there, yeah- the one to the left. Just go through that door right there and you'll be on your way"

Blue didnt even bother coming up with a retort. He decided to just sit back and see where this went.

"Like ok kid, opening a pantry door will totally take me to the Demon Kings castle"

Cross mocked as he opened the door.

"Holy shi-"

Cross fell through the door.

Blue sighed following after him. Blue opened his eyes and gasped in shock. Infront of him, surrounded by a field of black roses, stood a castle made entirely of vantablack stone. The sun had started to set on the horizon, causing orange and gold light to be reflected off the dark glossy windows. It was truly magnificent.

Blues gaze went back to Cross who had landed on his face and was cursing up a storm. He smiled in amusement. 'At least things are about to get a little more interesting

A story about a father-daughter relationship told in tempo and verse. Megan wants to visit her daddy. But her father is too busy to take her. Megan recommends memorizing to go her bicycle so she knows how shape the expedition alone. Dad schools her. Hes patient and promoting. I wont “lets get going” ,/ Not until “theyre saying”. So Megan overcomes her anxieties. She announces out, Okay, you can let go now! Then shes off into the delight of a first bike go( illustrated by Tony Ross, with a magical style, as a passage past a tiger, into jungle .) Meanwhile Dad is left behind, knowing hes “lets get going” of his daughter in more ways than one. Prepare in the big-hearted, wide world of a windswept park. Lovely writing, as always, from Jeanne Willis. And another human-hearted pa, alive on the page.

8. Ted by Tony Di Terlizzi

This one is for older paint work readers. The narrator is a six- or seven-year-old boy who lives with his rather serious papa. Ted is a large, pink imaginary sidekick who shows up one day, talking about birthdays and raspberries. Antics follow, which get the narrator into deeper and deeper trouble with his father. They develop a barmy game called monopoly twister. Ted causes the boy a bad haircut. They paint the walls. Then they spate the house. Dad cant take it. NO MORE TED! Ever! he speaks. But theres a good twist. Ted tells the boy not to worry. He says he was once “his fathers” imaginary sidekick. They used to play infinite plagiarists. He even remembers where Dads atomic blaster doll is lay. When Dad visualizes his old plaything, remembrances wake up in him. The tale is about to change. And the three of them end up playing cavity pirates monopoly twister.

9. The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey by Susan Wojciechowski, illustrated by PJ Lynch

A longer narration, more for 5-8 year-olds. It is illustrated with great skill and thought, by PJ Lynch.( And its another one that produces tears to my sees most ages I read it !) Jonathan Toomey is a wood-carver who has moved to a village, far from where his wife and baby succumbed. So this is not a usual situation work pa. He is solitary and suffering. The widow McDowell and her son, Thomas, are newcomers to the hamlet. In their move, they have lost a treasured nativity defined. So they expect Jonathan Toomey if he will carve them a new one. The carpenter reluctantly concurs. His middle warms to both Thomas and Thomass mother. He carves a beautiful replacement nativity defined. In the realise, he faces his terrible loss. And the final, beautiful, image is of the three of them walking side by side on Christmas day with laughter in their eyes.

10. My Dads a Birdman by David Almond, is borne out by Polly Dunbar

Lizzies mum has died and her leader cant cope. In fact, hes decided hes a bird. He thinks that if he was able to make a good duo of backstages, hell fly across the River Tyne and triumph the Great Human Bird Competition. David Almonds eye for whats treasured in the human drama “were living in” stirs this a profoundly enjoyable storey. Its junior myth rather than a portrait notebook. But it does have wonderful artwork by one of best available scene book illustrators at work these days: Polly Dunbar. So Ill objective my list with this. Lizzies father is just the sort of rounded, hiring daddy Im pointing to. Hes wounded and inarticulate. But he brims with stuffs that they are able make a good leader: desire, fun, devotion, intensity. And the floor has a positive outcome, as he and Lizzie try the impossible.

10 books every entrepreneur should read in 2017

Entrepreneurship is a commitmentnot only to your venture or business, but also to a unique learning process. Where others seek guidance through big universities and established companies, I know many entrepreneurs like myself who have a desire to go their own way and learning becomes a self-guided experience. As a result, Ive gained a whole new dimension to my learning experience, having combined it with what I have chosen to read and what I have learned in the field.

Many entrepreneurs are avid readersnot just out of curiosity, but necessity. I love listening to podcasts and audiobooks because its something I can do while Im on the go whether that is traveling or exercising. Reading is one of the only ways you can learn from the worlds best and brightest, especially those who choose to share their thoughts on paper instead of through a weekly podcast.

Here is an entrepreneurs reading list for 2017 that include ten books that I have been motivating, insightful, and humbling for me. I hope that they leave a positive impression and assist you on your journey toward building something impactful in the world.

1. “All In” by Bill Green

This is a must read for any first-time entrepreneur who thinks building a business is an easy process. Author Bill Green uses “All In” to both inspire entrepreneurs on their quest for greatness and put things in perspective. Starting in a flea market and ending with a publicly traded company, Greens story demonstrates what it means to go all in on an ideaand not stop until the goal is achieved something that stands out for me in terms of the perspective that has helped me in bringing my own business ideas to fruition.

Greens company was Wilmar Industries, a corporation that ended up employing more than 2,300 people. When Wilmar went public in 1996, Fortune rated Wilmar as one of the best IPOs of the year. In 1999, Wilmar was named by Forbes as one of the top 200 Best Small Companies in America. “All In” describes Greens humble beginnings, his bootstrapping mindset and, ultimately, his rise to building a company that today is owned by Home Depot, with revenues topping $1.8 billion.

2. “Top of Mind” by John Hall

In a noisy world of digital marketers, how do you stand out? CEO of Influence & Co. and business thought leader John Hall has some valuable insights. Few books can change your daily habits as effectively as “The Miracle Morning for Entrepreneurs.” Author Hal Elrods original “The Miracle Morning” was a self-development crash course. The book has given me six daily practices to create and sustain positive change in my lifepersonally and professionally. I have found that one of the most difficult challenges is to maintain a balance between building a successful business and taking care of myself. It has taught me that if Im off, then the whole picture is off. The principles in this book have put balance back in my life, which has benefitted my business, helped me feel better, and made my family a lot happier.

4. “Grit” by Angela Duckworth

Can success be reduced to a process? Pioneering psychologist and New York Times bestselling author Angela Duckworth thinks it can. She calls it grit. “Grit” does an incredible job of exploring what makes someone exceptionaland, as Duckworth has discovered, it certainly isnt talent or inherent intelligence.

She argues that the most successful people discover their own genius through the daily habit of persistence while always remembering to lead with what they are most passionate about. I thoroughly enjoyed the personal stories as well as interviews with peak performers and industry leaders, ranging from JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon to Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.

5. “A Paperboys Fable” by Deep Patel

This book struck me for its title because it made me think about my first job and the other ventures I tried when I was younger.

Part story, part riveting interviews with professors, entrepreneurs, CEOs and more, “A Paperboys Fable” creatively shares some of the most tried and true lessons learned in business. Like the Arbinger Institutes Leadership and Self-Deception, what makes “A Paperboys Fable” a worthwhile read is its ability to take high-level and timeless business lessons and make them both easy to understand for beginners and poignant reminders for us more seasoned entrepreneurs.

6. “Rich20Something” by Daniel DiPiazza

The brand, Rich20Something, was started by Daniel DiPiazza, a recognized digital marketer and influencer. A website, a massively popular Instagram page, and now a book packed with lessons, “Rich20Something” is DiPiazzas story of being a typical twenty-something, unsure of what to do in life, and how he built a brand around the hustling mentality that can turn any young entrepreneur into a success.

Unlike the conventional corporate ladder path, “Rich20Something” is essentially a guide to hacking your way to wherever you want to go. DiPiazza shares his own advice from the trenches along with anecdotes from other successful entrepreneurs and mentors and step-by-step techniques for building businesses around my personal skill set. Its helped me beyond the dream and make things happen.

7. “Managing the Mental Game” by Jeff Boss

Who better to learn mental fortitude from than a former Navy SEAL? In Managing the Mental Game,” Boss reflects on his experiences as a SEAL and walks readers through techniques that build self-confidence, mental endurance and positive habits.

The book is comprised of over 23 mental exercises, covering topics such as how to deal with stress, how to avoid common mental traps, how to handle uncertainty and even the neuroscience behind change. Ive used these in my daily work life to deal with those unexpected issues and barriers that seem to pop up with a startup, which has provided me with a much more measured and logical approach when these do happen.

8. “Disrupted” by Dan Lyons

What is Silicon Valley really like? After 25 years at Newsweek, journalist Dan Lyons lost his job to younger talent. Shortly thereafter, he found himself working for a famed Silicon Valley startup, Hubspot, which had over $100 million in venture capital. “Disrupted” is Lyons take on the idealized entrepreneurship scene in California. As a resident of Silicon Valley, this book hit home in terms of familiar situations and advice on how to navigate the territory here.

One part crash course on entrepreneurship, two parts humorous stories and unfortunate conclusions, this book shows that heavily funded startups arent all they seem to be from the outside. According to Lyons, Its a world where bad ideas are rewarded, where companies blow money on lavish perks, and where everyone is trying to hang on just long enough to reach an IPO and cash out.

9. “Be Obsessed or Be Average” by Grant Cardone

Grant Cardone is a success story, to say the least. In addition to having one of the strongest personal brands, Cardone has made a name for himself by building five successful companies and turning himself into a multimillionaire. “Be Obsessed or Be Average” is like his other NYT bestseller,The 10x Rule a humbling reminder of just how much you have to want success in order to e ventually have it. It reads just like Cardone sounds in his videos and on his podcastfull of energy and motivation. His quotes have stayed top of mind long after finishing the book, which have been inspirational when faced with some critical issues in my business.

From Cardones perspective, success ultimately comes down to three basic rules: first, be willing to set crazy goals, and aim to reach them, every single day; second, value your money and make it work for you; and, third, use your haters as fuel. These rules have worked for me and many colleagues, so they will work for you, too.

10. “The Fire Starter Sessions” by Danielle LaPorte

Theres a reason “The Fire Starter Sessions” has sold over a million copies. Author Danielle LaPorte explains that many of the things we believe about the road to success are actually wrong, and that we end up driving ourselves mad by searching for things that dont actually exist.

Some of the controversial topics covered in this book include the fact that life balance is a myth, that our principles and beliefs might be the very things holding us back, and that happiness has far more to do with how we feel while were working and not necessarily the achievement of our goals. “The Fire Starter Sessions” offers helpful reminders for any entrepreneur who wants to build a meaningful future. Its certainly given me a lot of food for thought on how Ive looked at my own business and leadership style.
