First off, I think you got them mixed up... Bao-yu does actually translate to precious jade :) he has that name because of the jade he's born with in his mouth. (precious= Bao jade=Yu)

About Hong Lu's name:

Hong Lu's name comes from the Chinese title of the book (hóng lóu mèng). I haven't fully cooked on this but him Being the book could mean any number of things. He's the only sinner named in this way and it's genuinely so fascinating to me.

I think we can consider one of the alternate titles for this book (The Story of the Stone) here. There's five proposed names for the novel, but the author died before picking a name so Dream of the Red Chamber is just one of five potential names for the book. The best english translation (for most people to read) chose that alternate title because the translator believed it suited the book better.

The Stone mentioned within that title is none other than the Jade that became/was Bao-yu. Within the story, the entire text of the novel was engraved onto the jade at its final resting point, which a monk copied down and brought into the world for publication. It's pretty unserious but classic novels LOVE frame stories the same way hong lu fans love over analyzing his five lines per canto

I do think there will be some kind of "ambiguously human" angle for Hong Lu. Project Moon LOVES exploring what it means to be human (looks at Angela) (looks at Nagel Und Hammer) (looks at. really anything they write) and what better character to explore that with than the one who is simultaneously human and inhuman within the source material!

I don't think it means Hong Lu couldn't be a straightforward-ish adaptation of Bao-yu or anything, but it was an Intentional choice by PJM to choose the name Hong Lu instead of going with Jia Bao-yu or even Bao-yu (there is a "mirror Bao-yu" within the book. it's very scary)

They could do so much with it if I'm being honest. He could very well be a mix of multiple characters within the book and we won't know til the canto drops or he says something incredibly telling :)

The jade is so fascinating to me. I can only really guess at what Hong Lu's deal is until canto 8 drops but theres SO MUCH to bite on oh my god. “Not a chance. Call Claire and don’t move. We’re on our way.” And then the phone clicks.

You text and then call Claire to update her quickly, and she promises to try and override the locking mechanism, or at least get you an internal layout of the basement.

You decide to check out the other door, figuring that while you’re down here you may as well take advantage of it. The room on their other side is bright and empty. Lining the walls are shelves, all covering their contents with glass.

You make out a few vials filled with oddly colored liquids, one is pink and another a bright green. There’s glass jars with what looks to be fish heads and eyes. Tails you can’t make out, scales, and other animals going through various stages of decomposition.

Some are still moving, breathing.

You shudder before taking a few photos on your phone, and a video to show that they’re still alive somehow. You quickly send it to Chris, along with the photo of the dead shark-man, and then put your phone away.

You sit in the room for an hour, gun in hand and hidden in the corner incase someone enters the eerily quiet basement. You don’t know where everyone’s gone, but you’re not complaining at the lack of unwanted company.

Then you hear it. A faint beep from the first room you were in. Shuffling of feet and then a door sliding open and then shut. Your body goes on high alert, and you stand quickly to try and see who’s entered the basement.

Through the door window you spot Dr Stevens, carrying a bucket filled with medium sized fish.

He doesn’t spare a glance around the room, focused on going through the door on the left, stepping over the dead body on the floor with a ‘tsk’ and leaving through the same door the other man went through earlier.

Bingo

You quickly throw Chris’s order to “stay put” out, and follow Dr Stevens through the door.

You’ll face any repercussions later

You follow Stevens quietly, using your stealth specialist training to stay hidden behind boxes and doors as he makes his way through hallway after hallway.

You spot a few offices down here, looking through their windows briefly you can see people working at desks and machines. It’s busier than you expected, compared to the other first rooms.

You also spot another tank with a very much still alive Shark-Man-Thing in it, this time a women is standing about the tank with a bucket of some..gooey..something, that she keeps throwing in the tank with the creature.

You take photos the entire time as quietly as you can. It helps that all of the rooms have windows, and the hallways are empty aside from you and Dr Stevens.

Eventually he stops at a large door, it’s twice his size and the lock on it would put a bank to shame. You see him reach into his pocket and grab a golden card that catches the light when he takes it out. He places it on the right side of the door, and on the left side he places his hand on a screen.

The lock twists, and 6 prongs slide in from the door frame allowing the doctor to walk easily through, and you quickly follow.

After the door theres another staircase downwards, it’s long, and you can barely make out the end of it.

Dr Stevens is taking them two at a time as if in a rush, and you make sure to wait before continuing tailing him in fear he’ll turn around and see you, or hear your echoing steps.

‘You got this. You’ve hidden yourself in worse situations before. You can do it again’ repeats as a mantra in your mind

At the end of the staircase is another door, and it opens into a large room, ceiling expanding high, with a tank in the middle of it full of water.

Along the wall is a staircase, which leads to a platform high above the tank. Taking a quick look around you notice Dr Stevens rushing up the stairs.

You stare from the dark doorway as the doctor stops at the top platform, before dumping the contents of the bucket into the large tank.

Chunks of large dead fish fall down into the water with a splash, and within 5 seconds a large dark mass swims around the tank in upward motion. Jaw unhinged, you can make out rows and rows of massive sharp teeth that chomp through the water and fish at a high speed. Its face is mutated and you can spot various sets of eyes of different sizes, it almost looks like a bunch of different species of sharks mashed together to make one monster.

It’s terrifying.

You’ve worked with The BSAA for a few years now. Recruited by Chris as a contract agent for the division, you’ve seen a lot of shit;

But never that.

Taking in a sharp breath you watch as Stevens wipes his brow and places the now empty bucket on the platform next to him before leaning back into the railing. It’s an eery silence that’s only filled by the occasional slash of water from the monster in the tank enjoying it's meal.

You take the chance to slide behind a few large crates to the left of the doorway, taking your phone out for more photos of the tank and Stevens standing above it. You notice the room reeks of dead fish, and you can’t imagine how many they must have to fead that thing to keep it satisfied.

Dr Stevens catches his breath, and then straightens up before walking back from the platform and down the stairs again. You see him stop outside of door at the bottom of the staircase, and he quickly shakes his head before continuing back to entrance you both came from.

You hesitate, not wanting to get stuck in this room, but following him isn’t an option as he quickly runs up the stairs and you hear and see the large metal door slam shut behind him.

Now you’re really stuck.

After Kai gave me his phone number i went straight to my house after i finished grocering. I stepped outside my car as i was standing in front of my door. This is when curiosity took over my body, I turned my head around just to see my neighbours house. 

“how I didnt know about him?” i thought to myself. It was a pretty big house, bigger than mine. You must have a lot of money to be able to afford this type of houses. 

I get inside my house just to find my cat Milo sleeping on my bed. I take the grocerie bag to the kitchen and put everything in place. I get back inside my bedroom and i lay myself on my bed taking the paper that Kai gave me earlier from my jeans pocket. I read it again  “see you at my house at 9 today? call me xxx” i got a little excited. I stand up and start to get change to my pijamas, i had plenty of time. I looked out my window to see Kai in his bedroom sitting while he is doing some work on his computer. I completely forgot that my bedroom window was right infront of my neighbours window. Suddenly Kai turns around and his expression changes to a suprised one when he sees me not wearing my shirt. My first reaction was to throw myself to the ground.

“y/n you okey over there?!” i heard Kai screaming through his window

“um- y-yeah! dont worry im ok” i screamed still laying on the ground blushing

“THIS IS SO EMBARRASING” i thought, this could not get any worse 

“you sure?” he asked again

“yeah just give me a second-” i took my pijama shirt from the ground and put it on my almost naked chest. Then i stood up.

“heyyyy..” i was completely embarrased

“hey” he said with a smirk on his face

“sorry you had to... see that” i put my hand on my face

“oh no, i definitely enjoyed the view”  he knew that he had the upper hand here, so he wasn’t even trying to be subtle with his attempts at seduction. He could feel your nervousness. He knew which buttons to push, all right.

I blushed at the comment

“im just messing with you” He smiled at your blush, the arrogant smile of his seeming to widen. He was enjoying this a little too much. He looked like he was playing with you, and he wasn't trying to hide how he felt about it.

“oh ok haha” is he flirting with me??

“see ya at 9 then”  he raised an eyebrow, his mouth turning into a teasing smile that curled at the corners. He didn’t respond, only looked down at you for a moment, a smirk on his lips, his eyes sparkling

“see ya” i waved back still standing in front of my window. After a minute i went to the living room to watch some tv and distract myself when i fell asleep. I woke up around 2 hours later, it was already 7.30 so i had to get ready. I went to shower and finished my makeup. I put on a skirt, a black top a some heels. I wanted to look pretty, especially to make a good impression.

I go down stairs and texted Kai

I took everything i needed, sprayed some perfume on and went outside. Not even 4 seconds and i see Kai standing on his doorway. So i approached him.

“Hi” i said in a shy way

“Hi y/n, come in” he offered me to go inside first, he locked the door and stood right behind me and i feel his breath on my neck

“go on, theres nothing to be afraid of” his voice was playful, like he was teasing me.

i shivered.

The house had a darker touch, in my opinion it suited him a lot. I walked down the hall until I found a big kitchen. Kai entered the kitchen first.

“want a glass of wine?” he asked me raising an eyebrow

“you wanna get me drunk or something?” i joked while looking at him

“now, why would I do that?" He asked, a playful grin on his face as he spoke.

“do you trust me?" he asked, his voice lowering a little.

 "do you think... that I would hurt you? Or am I the kind of man you can trust?"

“i certainly do trust you since i got in your house in the first place” i said chuckling

He turned and poured two glasses of wine for each other He handed one to me and took one for himself, taking a sip from it.

He grinned at that, his dark eyes twinkling. 

“just get a little drunk… just enough to have some fun.” He raised an eyebrow, leaning closer to you and whispering the last couple of words into your ear that it send shivers down your spine.

"life has no middle ground // love rule and divide" like okay do you hear me. please. i love assigning polish songs to fictional characters.

Tabby (are they snuggly?) right so i think meta menardi gets very cuddly and affectionate with frank because shes overwhelmed a little......... by what she feels. and now this is where it gets tricky for me because like. its not that he doesnt like it. its not that he exactly likes it either. its weird. its unusual. it takes up so much of his time for no reason and hes always got better things to do than this. but also once shes hugging him he doesnt really want to leave because as much as he dislikes it and he hates how soft she always is with him, its so... nice. so uh i guess point being meta is snuggly as hell, maybe less so when sleeping, frank isnt for the most part at least not actively but as time goes on both his enjoyment of and how bad he feels about the affection grow. ARGH i have a lot of thoughts about this specifically but i cant put them into words ever. their whole thing is just a bit complicated but in an entirely different way than frank is used to by that point. plus the more he genuinely likes her in any way the less he wants to stay because yeah sure she has some powers but she is NOT used to the level of danger he brings (the place she's a spider-person for is relatively chill) and hes reminded of that every time she holds him in any way. he likes having his arms around her in some way (standing behind her, keeping her by his side etc) and her favorite is cradling his head to her chest. like a baby. he doesnt like when she puts it like that.

White Cat (are the f/os eyes striking?) i said it once under some post but like hes got that fucking. blue-eyed people stare. so in that way yes. but also since its frank the look in his eyes is almost always a little unsettling. because of the uh you know. the war trauma and the murder trauma and the violent tendencies overall. but meta likes them, she likes the little changes in them depending on what hes thinking. subtle but there and shes always soo proud of herself to catch them. also to me (and by extension to her ahaha) hes just. in some strange way. real pretty. in turn frank doesnt think metas eyes are "striking" exactly but he does thing they fit her a lot. theyre round, warm, and with a look of naivety. like they are by all logic so common and so unremarkable really (which is fitting because nearly everything about her is - she is the common cave spider afterall!) but theres this softness in the way she looks at him that makes it special. shame she doesn't like him seeing them though.

important for anyone growing native plants/pollinator gardens!!!

yes native plants are all gorgeous and lovely and we love and adore every single one of them and we need to spread around as many different kinds as we possibly can until no space is left unplanted. BUT

if you have limited space some are much more impactful than others!!

a few species (usually those that were most common historically) are called keystone species, meaning their impact on the greater ecosystem is so huge that it would literally collapse without them. they are each upholding the ENTIRE thing, like if they were gone the ecosystem wouldnt just be more fragile and sad, it would be dead.

usually thats bc they each feed dozens or even hundreds of kinds of specialized insects - that kind of biodiversity is SO crucial, especially when most of what they support is pollinators. pollinators sustain this planet, and the keystone plants are what sustains them. plus things like caterpillars are extremely important as food for larger animals

so heres the plants :3 (u have to scroll past some text to get there but also u should read the text its not much and its interesting and not all the same as what i just said)

these are almost all gorgeous flowers and delicious fruits/nuts so theres an extra reason to plant them. and they tend to be rlly adaptable too :3

while we should make sure to plant as many kinds of native plants as we can, we should take special care to plant these - im pretty sure Doug Tallamy said that if you plant anything, you should plant an oak.

this is not to say that other plants are any less important than the keystone species!!! every species has a unique and irreplaceable part in the ecosystem and its own special kind of beauty and none of them should ever be allowed to disappear from the world. the thing with keystone species is just that there literally isnt a future without them :P

so go plant strawberries and goldenrods and oaks!!! its fun too :3

I havent been keeping up with fics lately because...life. but i read your new chapter this morning and it was so gripping. and then I commented. and hours later I was like damn I hope I didnt sound demanding. so I go through your comments trying go gauge if I was in fact demanding and I started judging other commenters 😩 I have to ask you: do you ever get annoyed by the tone of comments?

An interesting question. The short answer is "yes", but the actual answer is "very rarely"

Please know that every author is different, and I have seen other authors complain about comments that would never bother me. Like people asking for more of something usually doesn't bother me, unless it's demanded or asked in a shitty way. If it's just "oh, I want more!!" I take that as a compliment.

I'm the sort of person who likes to give everyone the benefit of the doubt (to my own detriment, sometimes). I am also aware that tone can get lost in text very easily. So when I get a comment that I'm not sure the tone of, I assume the commenter meant well.

Unless, of course, it's blatantly mean, but those don't necessarily bother me all that much? Mostly it makes me sad cause I'm like... bby, why are you so angry over a free story on the internet? Like I'm genuinely sad for people who are so unhappy in their own lives that they take it out on strangers on the internet over fictional characters, you know? I tend not to respond to these, although sometimes I do when one is particularly annoying, and then I regret it. I know better than to feed those people.

Oh, and sometimes they make me laugh because the person is SO angry. Like the one who got mad on my Jon/Cat fic about how my "anti-military bias oozes all over this". Like yeah buddy. Guess you're new here. Or my favorite comment ever:

Sometimes comments get under my skin when people fall into POV traps (since I tend to write from a single, limited POV), but I also feel like my irritation is usually with myself - like, was the subtext not clear enough?? Did I not do a good enough job hinting at the non-POV character's motivations??

Oh wait! There are comments that bother me, full stop: I hate when people think they're complimenting my writing/story by putting down other authors/fics (like not specific ones, but in a generic way). Its only happened like 2 or 3 times in the years I've been writing, but I remember them

Okay so I’m a pretty okayish genshin fan, like I know some of the lore and that stuff, plus some of the characters which is why I’m confused on some of your ships, like Kaeya and Diluc, Albedo and Freminette and collei and yun jin. Mainly due to kaeya and Diluc being brothers in game, even referring to themselves as such multiple times, freminette is very much (at least hinted at) to be a child and albedo is obviously rather older than him, same with collei and yun jin, there may be more but I wasn’t able to see all of them on your chart.

ahhh the fun explanations ! ill try to explain as nicely as possible but if i sound mean at any point thats bc ive gotten these kinds of questions in not so nice ways so im used to responding not so kindly apologies in advance (LOTS of text ahead, sorry)

there are No Canon Exact Ages in genshin, no direct "hey this character is a Child!" other than the actual children models (klee, diona dori, even dori could be the trope of short old woman actually bc she does not talk like a child and klee is an Elf Thing who ages differently but this isn't abt them) the absolute closest we get to guessing someones age is diluc and ayato, diluc because his timeline of when he was in the knights(like 10), when the fight with kaeya happened(18) and when he got back(3-4 years after), we can estimate he is 21-22, mostly because we dont know just how many years he was on that break; and then it was said somewhere in ayato story description hes implied to be in his early to late 30s? if i remember correctly? ill have to fact check that myself again later

absolutely none of the "" teenage"" models have any exact age that actually sets them in the "minor" category; and genshin does this on purpose, they want the ages to be ambiguous so any character can be sexualized because they know nsfw work of thier characters Sells The Game to new people.

i never want to bash anyone for thier headcanons,to each his own; but because we have no canon ages to the fanon teen characters at the youngest they're all 18 to me, yes even collei and mika and those who are "" minor coded" they're young adults to me

frankly im sick and tired of the fandom treating fanon As Canon when its not at all like that 😔

now as for the kaeya/diluc stuff, this requires a biiit more explanation;

when i first started playing genshin and noticed thier dynamic, it felt familiar to another ship dynamic i was just obsessed with, i spotted the signs and started calling them exes from there, then i looked into fandom content and learned that the adopted brothers thing is a mistranslation, and in the cn text of the game they are referred to as sworn brothers which is a popular cn trope to hide homosexual relationships in cn media ; yes theres an argument to be made of "well if it was a mistranslation why haven't they fixed it yet" maybe they dont want to, for further censorship or maybe they prefer two versions of the relationship

dear anon id like you to read the genshin webtoon, where kaeya says how i think thier relationship is best interpreted; "diluc and i are like brothers" and later on diluc responds even with 'i am not your brother' i dont remember word for word

so as stated before i am not here to bash anyones takes; hell im not even fully on the "kaeluc side" myself i see them as exes who are too important to each other to leave each other entirely, but im not gonna tell that to the ragbros believers

scariest thing in the universe

i am perpetually scared (scwawed). tv show soundaffects, floorboards creeking, solitude, all scare me in the way that makes me text my friend(s) for their aide. truthfully, im not actually scared, my problem is paranoia.

im not allowed to donate blood or plasma (thinking of putting weights in my pockets so they allow me) but stem cells, yes. i dont think it would work though. they were prepare me for surgery, start drilling into my bones, and find nothing but instability. i think thats what my dna is made up.

a few years ago (when my mom was losing her mind) i was terrified she had developed Alzheimers. everytime she forgot something i would tell myself "remember this, in the far future, when the doctor asks if there were any signs, you can come back here." it was a comfort to me to tell myself that she had something wrong with her that wasnt in me (or at least wouldnt be for the next 20-30 years). looking back that was just one of her episodes of her grip on reality was loose.

i dont know what she has. i know its something. i dont want to sound like the moody 14 year old on tiktok that believes everything is cause for a diagnosis, but really, ive seen her, while on the way to my favourite grocery story, get a shaky voice telling me and my brother that shes going to die and that there is money under her mattress.

i go on walks everyday. when i walk past the canal i think of jumping in and drowning. pretty much everywhere i go, i am my own grim reaper, conjuring up ways to die.

my mother has bouts of insanity, where she spends hours a day screaming at anyone or anything. after that shes lighter, spends her time with gossip and blending buckets of garlic paste.

i know the symptoms of bipolar I, II and cyclothymia pretty well, ive read every nihm article there is on them. i know my mothers emotions very well.

theres a 10-90% chance bpd is genetic. i love math. when the percentage a study gives is >50% i cry so hard i cant breathe and i have to drink water to stop my head from hurting. i hope the universal calculator is looking down at me, watching the show, going into my brain and rewriting the mutations. i hope math loves me.

i want to have 3 kids. there was a time i wanted none. i had visions of being a mother like mine. ill say it simply, i dont want any of what she has, because i dont want to be like her.

i used to have to tell her that nobody hates her/is talking shit about her, she isnt going to die tomorrow, my brothers plane isnt going to crash, no ones stealing the bike in the backyard. i dont want someone else to have to guide me through my days of losing it.

when i have my moments of saying and doing anything i want and then not being able to stop myself for sitting around thinking of dying, i remember im 18. early adulthood is when bpd develops.

i cant escape my mind, i cant skip past the years or early adulthood when symptoms are thr most intense and ripe for diagnosing, i just have to live with not knowing if 10-90% are good odds.

Lauren was discussing buying bagels and bringing them to the house. Leda says that she wants to make him more of a proper breakfast (i.e eggs, etc). Lauren started adding things to their list.

Leda is talking about surprises for breakfast, and bringing her own groceries.

He suggested that she text Juniper.

Leda says that she wants to do it for him, and asks if its just for them or if Juniper is going, too. Lauren says they'll get separate ice chests and asks why shes mad.

Leda goes on this long, whiny rant about how she's not mad (just frustrated) to be a third party in their relationship. She goes on to say that she just wants to do something nice for her boyfriends birthday.

Lauren argues that its just a list of things, and that he can sort things out himself. She says its important to her and that he hasn't answered her questions. He offers to let her have 2 weeks off.

She asks if its just the two of them, he calls it a stupid question, and she says its not stupid. She goes on to continue to ask how much of her relationship shes expected to share with her, if she reads their messages, and if she sees the things Leda sends. Lauren tells her to say it outloud.

She tells him to stop invalidating. Lauren says "If you just want me to fire her, just say so."

Leda gets mad because hes not answering questions. She says that she wouldn't ask that and shes just trying to understand why shes such an important part of their relationship.

Lauren POPS off. He says that Juniper is his personal assistant, shes assisting him in personal matters, that shes just doing her job, and that he'll make sure that her existence is "minimal to none".

Leda gets mad that hes going to extremes again, and that he isn't providing what she needs. She doesn't understand why he's implying that shes bad. She wants to show him that she loves him, and doesn't want her to be a participant.

Lauren points out that this is just how his life is, and is just trying to adjust to her back in it. He says that she's "making a scene" and that shes claiming to putting more effort in. He discusses her work stress.

They continued to fight for a while until Lauren tells her that she doesn't have access to his messages, calls, contacts, etc. He says that she doesn't have to marry him if she doesn't want to. Leda gets upset and immediately backs down. Lauren says that he's 'not doing anything'.

kinda? But also worse? Basically Ohlmarks was a famed translator in the 70s for translating a lot of ancient texts to Swedish. He did the Eddas, Shakespeare, the Qu'ran, etc. He was one of many translators back in the day for translating "in the spirit of the text". He wasn't much for trying to get the authors voice perfectly translated, rather he would translate with a vibe in mind and he would inject his own interpretations into the text.

Ohlmarks version is as you can see uuuh. Kinda what Tolkien said but with an extraneous word count? And he has injected his own interpretations and just lengthed the entire section. And he does things like throughout the trilogy! I remember giving up reading this translation thinking this was just the annoying Tolkien esque writing. But it's Ohlmarks writing! Anyway, here comes drama from 50 years ago. now I want you to picture Tolkien, ultra nerd linguist, reading this translation and going ???? What did you do to my baby Mr Ohlmarks?????? And wrote a guide to translating names of Lotr as a response. It was published after his death by Christopher Tolkien.

When silmarillion came out Ohlmarks wanted to do a translation of it too, by Christopher was just like no. Anyone but you. Theres also some kerfuffle that maybe Ohlmarks broke into Tolkien's house??? None of them would really expand on details on what happened but their relationship soured entirely by that point.

Ohlmarks himself who had been a big Tolkien fan soured on not only Tolkien and Christopher but also on fans who criticised his work. So in 1982 he published a book where he claims that Tolkien and various Tolkien societies are part of a black magic nazi cult. I thought someone had done a little joke on wiki but no its real!!!

I want to formally apologize to Tolkien for formerly saying that his descriptions were excessive and that his extreme use of adjectives was annoying. And I want to formally throw shade at Ohlmarks, who translated lotr into Swedish, for turning this trilogy into an unreadable mess of a translation based on vibes, excessive adjectives and characters changing names and pronouns according to his whim. p5r is legitimately such a fucking amazing game and i really didn’t think it’d break my expectations as much as it did

leading up to it, i was actually severely disappointed, thinking “oh, they’re just releasing it again” (which, i will admit that is kind of dumb but at least there was like 3 years between the releases instead of A Year like we got with p3fes) but thats not what im talking about

but then i still bought the game because im a persona whore. i always will be and just. god. p5 was already such a fun game despite its story flaws, but all the little changes to systems like baton pass not being locked behind confidants, the fact that baton pass keeps its level if you dont pass, status effects Meaning Something, traits for personas, and then. ooguh

The New Content. ubwbuwububufe. Miss Yoshizawa i love you SO much. she’s integrated into the story really well and, yes, she’s a very typical “im your junior and look up to you!” character, she’s a lot more than that when you get into the third semester. she’s a tormented person who legitimately just asked for help in the only way she felt she could, taking the place of her recently passed sister. and the buildup was really good too!

in the beginning they add new dialogue of sojiro mentioning the death of a 15 year old girl, which you’d either pass off or go “wait is kasumi like. a ghost.” then you meet kasumi and everyone calls her yoshizawa, even the game makes specific mention to make her name “student called yoshizawa” instead of just her last name, then, you find out her name from a student ID, instead of her telling you! then there’s how unathletic she is and how she’s not matching up to what everyone wants, which really only put her more in that rut of feeling like she wasn’t really kasumi, which she wouldnt know

and. oh my god. maruki. holy Shit. he’s SUCH a good character. i actually thought i got spoiled on the game bc there was a tweet that mentioned him using nyarlahotep to bring back his dead gf which was just. A Straight Up Lie. but i was still surprised with how he was handled! a man gets his own persona that actually works in the real world, which, thats a fucking concept from DETECTIVE NAOTO of all places! like, they ACTUALLY put it into a persona game! and his ideals are like. Sound. he becomes a councillor to find out what everyone’s problems are, and he just wants to make them happy. but, because he found happiness in his own actualization, he tried to push it onto others, like kasumi. but then he’s given a LOT more power than that due to yaldy getting Destroyed by the p thieves, and the will of the people passed onto him bc thats who the thieves believed in. and then there’s just. the heart wrench of seeing your team so, SO happy. everyone’s getting what they desired inside, and you basically take that away from them, but rightfully!

maruki was taking away everything those people had fought for, breaking out of their weak selves, helping others through intense physical pain, moving on from the loss of loved ones, while maruki simply thought the best idea was to go back to how things were. his ideals feel like the peak of law, he just wants things to be in perfect order, a perfect garden of eden, so to speak.

but he didn’t get that. and the thieves didn’t either. the coolest thing about his fight is the conversations he has with the party, trying to convince them that things were better that way, and while all of them say pretty optimistic stuff, akechi is the one who’s really interesting.

maruki was able to bring akechi back from the dead because he knew joker wanted to be with him. to keep his promise of the glove. but when confronted about this, akechi just says that he’s had enough of maruki’s “high and mighty bullshit”

which, thats the perfect way to put it! maruki is putting himself in the shoes of the benevolent god, not thinking about the ways these people have tried to better themselves, and akechi is the biggest icon of this. he gave his life to save the thieves and keep a promise to joker. and him just. coming back to life didn’t sit well with him, and he wanted things to be how they were supposed to

akechi is a tormented child, someone who was led off the path much too early in life, and ended up causing a lot of unnecessary bloodshed all for the sake of his own revenge. but he was given a chance of redemption, alongside two of his victims. if anything, he probably felt a burden seeing that, considering he and joker were the only ones who realized what was going wrong.

this game makes you REALLY think about akechi. all of his lines on the subway platform are fully voiced now, he has a new confidant that has you hanging out with him to deepen the rivalry, even ending with a minor boss battle with him, with him even stating that he Hates Joker, pointing the same pistol that he’d eventually use to try and murder him in just a few weeks time with

but, they add onto this even more. akechi has to work together with joker and sumire, and while he says its just for a common goal, there’s more at play. he saw what the team did at sae’s palace with their showtime attacks, and he took an opportunity to do one with joker, which no one had even done to that point. and it was impromptu! there was no communication between them, there was just a bond that allowed them to fight as they wanted. they’re perfect foils for eachother and man. this game really made me love the dude more than ever

is p5r my favorite persona game? i don’t know, but it’s changed my mind on p5 a HUGE amount, much more than the other rereleases of games did.

i highly look forward to what happens with this property, because royal lays out such a good set up for future events

“What are we doing out here?” You whisper to Joshua, trying to hide your face in the hood of your sweatshirt. He shrugs, skip in his step as he walks next to you.

“Walking,” is what he responds with, and you want to kill him.

To be honest, you aren’t even sure how you got out here with him. You aren’t sure how he’s gotten you to do anything, but since that first… encounter (your downfall, if you’re being honest) Joshua has made it very difficult to say no. You didn’t expect anything to come from this – you don’t know much about idols’ dating lives, but you know everything is best kept under wraps – but the morning after the first time Joshua asked for your number, and then he kept texting you…

(Normally you shrug it off, ghost them if they’re a little too persistent. But Joshua is just the right amount of charming and sweet and devious all at once, and you’re weak.)

It’s not like tonight is the first time you’ve ever done something with him. A couple weeks ago he came over to your apartment, take-out in hand. A few days after that he sent you a cheeky message asking for your fashion advice (and you know it’s your job, but still. You do not need to freak out over the way he was definitely flexing his arms in the mirror selcas he sent, trying to show you two different shirts he was considering for the day). You’ve called multiple times by now, and sometimes he’ll sit with you in your office while you work if he finishes his schedule early.

You’ve just… never been out with him. For good reason.

“What if someone sees us?” You hiss at him, tugging on his sleeve quickly. He stops and you turn him around, fussing about his hair. You try your best to tuck it into his cap, black strands sticking out everywhere.

“No one’s gonna see us,” Joshua says, holding your wrist to stop your micromanaging. You huff, making the tiniest mental note of how easily his hand wraps around your wrist. “It’s late, we’re fine.”

He lets go of your arm and starts walking again, and you have no choice but to follow him, catching up to his long stride. “You say that now, but soon enough Dispatch pictures are gonna come out and the caption is gonna be SEVENTEEN’s Joshua spotted on a late night date with mystery person!”

Joshua laughs, too loud for your comfort but too pretty for you to tell him to stop. Then he shrugs, hand brushing yours between the two of you. “I’m pretty sure both of us are old enough to date without needing permission.”

And he’s right, but still. You’re hesitant for so many reasons. Both of you are always so busy, and Joshua is famous, and the last relationship you had ended… bad. You’ve grown so comfortable with Joshua but you’ve grown comfortable in private, because neither of you deserve all the anxiety and stress.

You want it, though. You want Joshua. You want the title, and the confidence, and everything.

“Are we?” you ask, casting a gentle glance towards him. You can hear the Han River lap gently at the shore. “Dating?”

You feel a little embarrassed about asking like this instead of just being an adult and bringing it up literally any other time, but then again, maybe now is as good a time as any. The two of you walk slowly past a streetlight and it boldens your shadows, side by side.

“Do you want to be?” Joshua asks in return. You purse your lips.

“I asked you first.”

He snorts at you and you roll your eyes, but smile just the same. He stops the two of you on the walkway and tugs you (gentle, tender) to him so you’re face to face, hands clasped together in between your bodies. Your heart beats a little faster.

“I like you,” is what Joshua says, and when you meet his eyes they’re shining. “I want to do whatever you want to do.”

You try to ignore the absolute fire on your face, flushed like a high schooler at his confession. Crickets sing around you and the world is warm and Joshua is brighter than any stars you could hope to see under Seoul’s city lights. Words don’t find you.

“I like you too,” you say, because it sounds like enough. You hope he can’t see how flustered you are, hope the distant streetlight and your hood hides your embarrassment.

Joshua nods, smiles. “I know,” he says. You slap his hands away from yours and he laughs, refusing to let go of you, fingers intertwined tightly. He tugs you closer, closer. You don’t fight it. “Seriously, though. Whatever you’re comfortable with.”

You hum. “It’ll probably be hard, huh.”

“It won’t be easy,” Joshua confirms, scrunching his nose. You run your thumb over the back of his hand. “But I trust you. We can try, at least.”

It’s not blind optimism, and you’re grateful. You wonder why you spent so long thinking about it when he makes it seem so easy, and you trust him, too. Your heart practically sighs in your chest, and it’s not your fault you can’t hold yourself back from kissing him.

Joshua smiles against your lips, one of his hands cupping the side of your face. It’s your own little world, filled with twinkling stars and the smell of summer air. He is warm and real and worth the risk, and you’re starting to think that maybe you are, too.

WHICH IS IMPORTANT AND EMOTIONALLY DRIVING FOR ARTEM AS A CHARACTER, MAKE NO MISTAKE. but the way that last line is worded makes it sound VERY DRAMATIC. while i was waiting for the game's release and i read this way back when i was like oooOOOOOHHH WHAT JUICY BACKSTORY DEETS IS ARTEM HIDING

Oooh, I get where youre coming from here so Ill go more in depth in my thoughts, cause i always love different interpretations, and imo my initial post is a bit weak and I think i have something better now thanks to you reminding me of something i just completely forgot somehow. I spent all of college doing this and ill never be able to ride that high anywhere but tumblr again.

Firstly, when it comes to interpretation, especially for stuff like this, imo theres no such thing as 'mistake in interpreting' unless you just plain dont read it or lie about details. Me saying 'I think jiang cheng had these thoughs according to my reading of the text' is not me saying 'this is the correct answer' nor is it like a mistake cause i dont necessarily interpret the text the same way. None of what either of us has interpreted is clearly stated as the intent of the work. People draw what they connect with out of the work, and come up with conclusions based on a lot of different contexts and lenses. If we read MDZS through a marxist/class concious lens, we have a different interpretation of jiang cheng and wei wuxians relationship than reading it through a philosophical lens of brotherhood. blah blah blah, yknow?

So, to elaborate on what i think of jiang chengs reveal, and all that I gotta first say that my interpretation for the meaning of mdzs is that it, (and all mxtx stories so far) is a work about outcasts trying to find happiness in the world, and the societies that refuse to let them and cast them out. Wei Wuxian is the outcast, scorned and killed by the cultivation world. Jiang cheng, imo, is a representation of the status quo. He is the manifestation of public opinion. He starts this early, as he's always the one to tell wwx to behave at the cloud recesses or point out when wwx is doing something inappropriate. When the war hits, jiang cheng is supportive of wwx's demonic cultivation, the same way everyone else is, because its winning the war. After the war, when wwx's habits are socially unacceptable and theres no enemy to turn them against, jiang cheng is less enthusiastically supportive of him. And so on and so on. Part of jiang chengs arc in the story is having to come to terms with this mob mentality he is swayed by, having to grapple with his desire for public approval and his relationship woth his brother.

And that's where I think jiang cheng running out to save wwx is interesting! Cause it's all at the same time very out of character and also very in character. It's jiang chengs first pushback against the thing that controls his life, status quo. Because, in theory, wwx is his servant, lower in rank then him, not as 'important' as he is in the grand scheme of like. Society. But, society is upended in that moment, jiang cheng has no sect to hold obligations to and wei wuxian is his brother. So he runs out with the knowledge that he will die. That is where I think I got it wrong in my initial post. Not a matter of wanting to die, but no longer having the chains of society in that brief moment and being willing to die to save wei wuxian.

But, after that, I still maintain that Jiang cheng saw living without a golden core as less valuable than dying with honor. Like, I maintain that there was the thought in his mind that he gave up too much and would rather die, and wei wuxian saying 'ill take you to baoshan sanren' was like enough of a repayment that the thoughts in jcs mind never turned into a resentful 'i lost this thing cause of you'. And you can kind of see this dynamic in play with Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan. Song lans entire clan died, and he lost his eyes, he blamed xiao xingchen, xiao xingchen got him his eyes back at the cost of his own etc etc, it ended in tragedy. There's a connection there, and jiang cheng not being aware of any of the machinations behind the scenes made his view of the situation as kind of transactional. 'I lost my core, you gave me a no strings attached way to get it back, things are back to exactly how they should be'. So I do think jiang cheng not mentioning he saved wwx is a matter of 'oh that doesnt matter anymore, its be solved no harm no foul. things are as they should be.' or something like that, and so jiang cheng returns to the 'shackles'of public opinion. Because its solved no strings attached I think theres a level of putting that event in a bubble of abnormality. That happened, its a thing we dont need to bring up, why bother with it since none of us are living with the results of that action. And I dont think jiang cheng is the type to guilt wwx into staying with bringing up stuff like that, obviously.

And then, that brings us to the end. The lack of reconciliation is an important part of the novel imo, because wei wuxian has rid himself of any regret about the past, accepted things for how they are, and has decided to live happily with lwj. Jiang chengs entire arc is about his struggle with his relationship with his brother and the expectations of society, so him letting wwx go without mentioning saving him i think can be interpreted in two ways, but i choose to interpret it in the less depressing way: He decided that bringing it up will just make another aspect of the past a shackle for wwx, and respects wwxs wish to free himself of the past.

I still do think there's an ongoing theme of the cost of relationships in the story. The exchange of suffering for the sake of another person and how that is weighed against what they do for you and if that even should be a consideration at all. A lot of the characters of mdzs sacrifice themselves for other characters in some way and those debts are a constant reminder. Wen ning and wen qing turning themselves in, wwx and the golden core, jiang cheng running out, lwj's 33 whips, yanli's death, xiao xingchen and song lan, wwx ruining his reputation further for wen qing and the wen remnants. its all a push and pull of sacrifice and prices paid, what other characters are willing to give and how theyre willing to be repaid.

something i think i dont necessarily agree with in mdzs discussionnis the idea that 'jiang cheng sacrificed his golden core for wei wuxian' which, while technically true, kinda wasnt jiang chengs intention.

jiang cheng intended to die.

like, think about it. he had just lost his family and clan, he was basically incapable of taking care of himself due to grief and anger, and wwx had to find them food and keep them moving, and wwx had the legitimate fear that jc would go back to lotus pier. jiang cheng ran out, yes with the intention to save wwx, but also knowing he was trying to die. he didnt trade his golden core for wwx, he tried to trade his life and ended up losing the golden core which is more unbearable to him than death.

thats why hes so shocked and upset about wei wuxian giving him his golden core. because giving someone your life is one thing, but purposefully choosing to live without a golden core is unthinkable to him. imo, jc doesnt tell wwx about saving him for two reasons at two times. the first, directly post war, because jc sees his sacrifice as more than he intended to give and therefore too much to bring up especially since wwx seemingly gave jc a wish to get it back making them even, and then after the golden core reveal, he sees his intended sacrifice as too little, something not worth mentioning in the scale of exchange. he intended to give his life, unintentionally lost something more valuable, then instead was intentionally and knowingly given something he was unwilling to live without.

We both go into car and started to drive to Starbucks. You guys were driving in comfortable silence but then he spoke up.

“Hey, but are you okay after yesterday?”

“Yeah, im okay im atleast glad that chae and hoon explained themselves cuz i woulve been very upset if they lied to me.. “ you spoke up.

“Yeahh..” Sunoo dryly replied.

But little did you know that deep down Sunoo still thought that something was suspicious about both of them.

*time skip them already arriving at school cuz im lazy*

“Were heree” Sunoo spoke up brightly.

“Im not excited abt today at all, i have to ask mr. Choi to switch groups with someone else bc im not working with Jake.” you replied

“Good luck with that..” Sunoo laughed

“Thanks.. okay lets go to class now” you said that as you started walking into school.

When you walked into school you didnt expect seeing Yang Jungwon standing right next to your locker.

“You gotta be kidding me" you said under breath.

Before you could say anything Sunoo spoke up first. “ Ay Yang what are you doing here, Yn is not interested to talk to you rn. “

“Please I really want to explain myself and talk to her” he was basically begging.

But then you spoke up “ Jungwon i made it clear to you yesterday, give me time and maybe. just maybe im gonna give you a chance but please rn leave me alone”

“Okay, ill give you time just tell me when. Im gonna be waiting for you” he said that as he was walking away.

“Really yn? ur gonna give him a chance” Sunoo asked.

“I never heard him out, so maybe it wouldn't hurt hear what he has to say to me. And also im long moved from him so this isnt some pitying my crush thing. “ you replied

“Whatever you say Yn.. but now we should go to class” he pulled you by hand.

But deep down you thought, ‘ have i moved on tho ‘ you weren't too sure abt that part.

note: Okay hi, its been quite a white since i wrote a chapter (like 3 months). Honestly i wasnt busy or something, its just i didn't have any inspo for a long time and i just didnt want to write something confusing or dumb so i just took time off. From now on ill try posting whenever i can but i wont be doing 2-3 updates cuz i feel pressure so ill post whenever i feel like and try to not disappear again.
