#naruto #naruto shippuden #senju hashirama #there's this whole thing where he talks to madara - intentionally unclear whether he's actually there or not - and it's just. sad #hashirama assumes it's a hallucination and it's pretty clearly implied that this isn't the first time post-vote that that's happened #it's just a sad old (not really) man finally taking off the rose-colored glasses and seeing the world he's helped create #and realizing it's not what he wanted it to be. it never could have been #there's also a bit where hashirama's viewpoint of his own abnormal power is shown to be playing a part #and he feels that as long as he's alive the world can't really move on bc everyone is just scared of him #there was only one person who could stand their ground against him and hashirama killed him years ago #he knows war his coming but he can only look at his failures and believes - likely accurately - that he'd only make things worse #but at the very least he can die with a smile and go see his old friend in the next life #which the reader of this hypothetical scenario already knows isn't happening bc madara un-unalived himself #and whether the madara he's talking to is the real one or not it ultimately doesn't matter #bc the hallucination would just be hashirama's limited perception of who madara was #and the real deal would have already succumbed to his delusion of this world as a ''sideshow'' and not really care #a man went to die in the woods one day. with his best friend by his side- he died alone
